One Dress a Day Challenge
February: Coeli's Monochrome Picks
1 April 2000 / Hilde Krahl as the President of the Global Union
This character is also listed in some places as the "North American President." Here she's wearing her best futuristic fashion--a 1950s idea of what people might be wearing in the year 2000, although perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek since the film is a political satire.

Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Singin’ in the Rain has bright camera flashes during the first scene that follows the opening credits. They are infrequent and non-strobing, but they are sudden and bright. A late dance number has patterned lights all over the screen that may create a minor strobe effect. Immediately after this number, a screen is shown that has brief strobe effects, for about a minute.
All of the camera work in this film is either stationary or very smooth.
Flashing Lights: 4/10. Motion Sickness: 0/10.

Nat King Cole - When I Fall in Love 1956
"When I Fall in Love" is a song written by Victor Young and Edward Heyman. It was introduced in Howard Hughes' last film One Minute to Zero as the instrumental titled "Theme from One Minute to Zero". Jeri Southern sang on the first vocal recording released in April 1952 with the song's composer, Victor Young, handling the arranging and conducting duties. The song has become a standard, with many artists recording it; the first hit version was sung by Doris Day released in July 1952. The song reached number 20 on the Billboard chart.
A version was recorded by American jazz vocalist Nat King Cole in 1956, and featured on the album titled Love Is the Thing. The song was also used as the recurrent love theme in the 1957 film Istanbul, in which Cole sang the song on screen. The single was released in the UK in 1957 and reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. This recording was re-released in 1987 and reached number 4. Love Is the Thing reached number 1 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart and number 1 on the UK Charts.
Natalie Cole recorded two different versions of the song: a contemporary R&B/smooth jazz version for her 1987 album Everlasting, and a more traditional version for her 1996 Stardust album as a virtual duet with her father Nat King Cole, including recordings of his vocals from his 1956 version. This version won two awards at the 39th Grammy Awards: Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Instrumental Arrangement with Accompanying Vocal(s) for arrangers Alan Broadbent and David Foster.
"When I Fall in Love" received a total of 68,8% yes votes! Previous Nat King Cole polls: #9 "Nature Boy"

December 27, 2015, Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark G. Lemon died at 83.
Meadowlark George Lemon III was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on April 25, 1932. He discovered the Harlem Globetrotters at 11 years old while watching a newsreel at the local theater. He was determined to one day make the team. Lemon didn’t have enough money to buy basketball equipment, so he made his own. He made the Basketball hoop out of an onion sack and a coat hanger and used an empty carnation milk can as his ball. According to Lemon, he made his first shot, a two-pointer.
He continued to play basketball in high school. Realizing the fierce competition, he logged long hours on the court to strengthen his skills. He briefly attended Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, a historically black university in Tallahassee, Florida. He was drafted into the Army in 1952. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, before serving two years in Salzburg, Germany.
While in Germany, Lemon played on an Army base’s basketball team, averaging 55 points a game. He was discharged in 1954. He then played for the Kansas City All-Stars for a year before joining the Harlem Globetrotters. Lemon played for 23 consecutive years with the Harlem Globetrotters and earned the name “Clown Prince of Basketball.” In the 1980s, he started his comedic basketball team “Meadowlark Lemon’s Bucketeers,” and then he established “The Shooting Stars” before founding “Meadowlark Lemon’s Harlem All-Stars.” Lemon returned to the Harlem Globetrotters in 1993 for a 50-game season.
In 1986, Lemon became an ordained minister. In 1989, he founded “Camp Meadowlark,” a camp designed to improve young people’s basketball skills while teaching them the importance of education and staying healthy. He earned his Doctor of Divinity in 1998. In 2003, Lemon was inducted into the NBA Basketball Hall of Fame.
