#anyway ochako is doing fantastic and i love her very much

I have a sudden, unsolicited opinion on the moment where Ochako admits that she fell in love with Izuku. Since it has been going around as one of those context-less, surface level articles on Google(I spotted it too)

So it's talking about the moment when Ochako is fighting Toga and she tells her that she fell in love with Izuku.

Does she use the exact wording? Yes.

Does that mean it's an end all declaration? Does it mean she is endgame with Izuku? I do not think so.

I don't think it's the final nail in the coffin to the argument for any other ship involving Izuku or Ochako. Here's why:

The admission is so anticlimactic.

We have known for a while that Ochako has complicated feelings about Izuku. We know that it has been a bit of a crush. And that has led to ANTICIPATION to see what becomes of those feelings.

But along the anticipation, we have also seen her going through some feelings of discomfort about the whole thing...unusual, for a supposed love interest of a Shonen manga!

So the audience has been waiting for a LONG time for something, anything, to happen between Ochako and Izuku that rewards that anticipation and that waffling on Ochakos part.

And for something like a supposed love confession, a line like "I fell in love with Izuku Midoriya", to heppen....

But NOT in a moment between Ochako and Izuku themselves, just also does not reward the anticipation that was built up.

She did not confirm and admit these feelings TO izuku. She admitted them to Himiko.

And that is the first time the audience hears her positively confirm that she had those feelings, blatantly.

But it TAKES AWAY from the actual relationship because Himiko received that confession...not Izuku.

We didn't get a charged confession between Ochako and Izuku. The relationship was STILL not mutually developed. It's still just a quality of Ochako, it says nothing about Izuku. The anticipation of Ochako having a crush, and changing, complicated feelings for Izuku and where that would eventually climax, where it would reach its peak for Ochako and Izuku both, instead is diverted. Kind of literally. Because it didn't happen at either chance they had to talk it out, to confess, she sent Izuku away when Himiko tried to trap him into a love discussion. She didnt bring it up before the war began even though they had such a calm moment to be able to do so. It didn't come out in the logical places. And now in the endgame, they have split up to fight different battles...Ochako has even exhausted everything she has right now to save Himiko and likely is out until we receive the wrap up.

So, the anticipation I mentioned, again, does not have a payout in the form of even a rushed battlefield confession because the two of them are fighting different battles.

Instead the audience is given the confirmation of "I fell in love with him" when he is not even present, when Ochako is not confessing to him or confronting him. It comes out with Toga, when she Is trying to reach out and level with her, it almost could read as a "I had a crush on the same boy" kind of statement. It comes out when saving Himiko is Ochakos main priority.

What I'm saying here is that Ochakos love confession for Izuku, which is usually a big deal in any story, is in the back seat to prioritize each of their other relationships and goals. Which is great that it is not forced upon us when there are bigger things happening, however it just does a disservice to the pairing itself when most of the feelings are expressed onesidedly, and an actual statement of love, if it's not even outdated because of changed feelings, means a lot less when it's not filling the gap between the two people in question. When the confession doesn't reach the other person.

(And I will go ahead and say that is kind of similar to how bkdk is right now as well, bc we have SO MUCH material on Katsukis side, about how he feels and how much he cares about Izuku, but not a lot on what Izuku feels or allows himself to feel about Katsuki. I will call that out as well.)

Like at this point, the best we could hope for, for Ochako and Izuku being a couple, is a very open note about it in the aftermath. Like maybe Ochako asks Izuku if he would like to get crepes with her. That's just enough given context clues to suggest to the audience that yes there are still some feelings there, she heard what he said about crepes and holding hands and took note of it, but also that Izuku himself is willing to explore those feelings as well. It would be Ochako finally choosing her feelings for Izuku, but without it being too sudden for Izuku to accept. This whole time we are not shown Izuku crushing on her at all it would be strange to have him suddenly initiate.

But anything more romantic and profound than that? Any dramatic reveal/confession of feelings, any chance for them to have a moment in the midst of war to have the "i love you" discussion? That has been bypassed time and time again. Horikoshi COULD HAVE WORKED IT IN, IF IT WERE A PRIORITY TO HAVE THEM ENDGAME. While no, romance doesn't have to be a priority in a Shonen, and Ochako has flipped the script on how she handles her feelings as a shonen love interest, Hori has demonstrated that threads and concepts of romance ARE part of his narrative.

And right now? Hot take, but the most romantic thread that Izuku, his main character, finds himself in, is whatever the hell is going on between him and Katsuki Bakugou.

You'd just think if the mc was going to be with a romantic partner, a girl, by the end of the story, something would have happened.

I feel like I'm going in circles past my point, but it boils down to Izuku not having any indication of interest in Ochako besides friendliness....the fact that the audience received confirmation of Ochako loving Izuku from her telling a 3rd party and NOT her subject, and the anticipation of that confession, built up for YEARS of this manga and animes run, of supposed feelings not really being paid off, if the two are meant to be the romantic end game. It also boils down to the fact that the anticipation of the confession had a CHANCE to occur with Izuku, the subject, multiple times. It boils down to again, ochako and Izukus relationship being romantic in anyway being little more than an after thought.

AND! it doesn't even guarantee that her feelings of love for him are still the same! We don't know for sure if she STILL loves Izuku!

So yeah. I hope this made sense, but it sure feels anticlimactic to have a love confession(supposedly) not even occur while the subject is present, where the audience can view it and celebrate that long awaited conclusion.

As always, these articles that pop up on Google leave a lot of context out, and are very face value. They saw Ochako say the L word and called it endgame. There is a reason I don't read them.

BnHA Chapter 324: Is There a Force Field Around Him??

Previously on BnHA: Flashback!Rat Principal was all “please tell Midoriya that I spent a concerningly small amount of money upgrading U.A. into a wacky physics-defying funtime grid so as to make the final battle much more confusing for everyone.” Present Day!Mic (or Present!Mic, if you will) and Jeanist were all “if only somebody could deescalate this dangerously unhinged mob, we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas.” Ochako was all “LISTEN UP PEOPLE.” The mob was all, “god??” Ochako was all, “NO, IT’S ME, OCHAKO. I’M REALLY HIGH UP ON THIS BUILDING AND THE VISIBILITY IS LOW DUE TO THE RAIN, SO I CAN SEE HOW YOU MIGHT MAKE THAT MISTAKE. ANYWAYS, DEKU WAS OUT THERE RISKING HIS LIFE FOR YOU CLOWNS EVEN THOUGH HE’S JUST A KID, SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD ALL REMEMBER HOW TO BE DECENT HUMAN BEINGS, THANKS.” Let’s see if her Big Scolding Energy has any impact.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “so I have this speech planned out, and it’s really good, but it also only really needs about 6 to 8 pages, but I’m gonna see if I can stretch it out to 17 pages so I can kill time before we get to the next volume cliffhanger two weeks from now.” Anyway but it really is a good speech though. There are feels, and tears, and more talk about how Deku is so in need of a shower that just looking at him requires a tetanus booster, and more feels, and more tears, and bonus ship drama, and an iconic callback to the very first chapter which reframes the entire series in a new context in a totally epic and moving way, and it’s all very good. Except that Horikoshi is determined to never let anyone actually give this kid a hug. Who hurt you, dude.

omg we are opening on a callback to chapter 212, a.k.a. the chapter with by far the cutest flashback that doesn’t involve any baby Todorokis

baby Ochako is lethally cute. she could literally murder someone with her cuteness. I just want to scoop her up and play airplane with her until she accidentally activates her quirk while we’re spinning around and we both helicopter up into the air never to be seen again

“a child’s insistence” huh well that’s all well and good, but I sure hope this doesn’t mean we’re going to drag out the whole “sternly lecture the obnoxious citizens” plot for another whole chapter. no offense but I think we’re good

so page 2 is just continuing the whole happy/worried faces monologue, which of course is very important to Ochako’s character as it provides the context for why “who protects the heroes” ended up becoming her thing. and this is making me think we actually are in for a whole second chapter of this sob. when will my boy finally get to rest

I was going back and binging Ochako chapters this past week for reasons, and I gotta say it really stuck out to me just how often these two are paired with each other. they do everything together. it’s a really sweet friendship that often goes unappreciated but it’s very cute

I’ve said this before, but this new generation of heroes is shaping up to be much more transparent than the All Might generation. they’re basically abandoning the almighty, untouchable Superman “heroes as gods” concept in favor of the more nuanced “heroes as people” concept instead. and that’s a good thing. seeing their heroes as humans, with human limitations and weaknesses and flaws, will hopefully not only lead to more scrutiny and accountability, but also more awareness of how hard some of them are working and how much they’re sacrificing. that’s something All Might never quite grasped back at the start of the series -- that the weak, vulnerable, injured him could be just as inspiring as the mighty, invincible him -- perhaps even more so. there’s a power in seeing otherwise ordinary people show extraordinary bravery and compassion. it inspires others to try and do the same

Alright, chapter 8! And man is there a lot to talk about here. I don’t really have any pre-content things to say, so we’ll just hop right into it today!

[No. 8 - Rage, You Damned Nerd]

I swear, this first page has a LOT to talk about on it, so I’ll go from panel to panel and do some rambling thoughts on each segment. 

First off, UA doesn’t actually handle the costumes the kids get! It’s support companies affiliated with the school that does - which makes sense, since the school has to focus on teaching their support students before letting them get their hands on actual costumes that these kids might be fighting in.

I mean, they seem to be allowed to practice on like, minor support stuff (read: Mei making Izuku his new gloves post-Nighteye or somewhere around there) but not full costuming, which is… actually a bit reassuring? But also explains some of the lag time in getting costume repairs / upgrades since they’re probably busy companies. It also explains why there probably aren’t major alterations to any costumes besides between the summer and winter variants, since it would be time-consuming to remake these costumes so regularly.

(It still doesn’t excuse some of the costumes the kids got, but that’s more on the whole ‘eye candy’ thing for readers than actual practicality, so whatever.)

(Also, I can’t get over the fact that Snipe has a support company. Fucking Snipe. Guess we know another canon or likely-canon Support teacher.)

Next we get a preview of what the kids sent in for specifications for their costumes:

We get a bit of insight into a few of the characters - as background stuff, we get Shouji, Mineta, Aoyama, and Sato. Mineta got pretty dunked on for char design and costuming, and Aoyama’s costume almost looks like a magical girl outfit like this, which honest to god would have been fantastic to see him in. More interesting (at least to me) are the other three: Ochako, Tenya, and Katsuki.

Ochako first, because that pressure point thing is interesting, and I dunno how often those actually come up in fics besides a passing mention, like. What if her support bracelets / neck piece broke during training / a mission / whatever? Would she suddenly have to fight through the nausea? By the point of current canon (War Arc) she’s probably trained enough that she doesn’t need them as much, but man, it could be an interesting little thing to explore, like, post-Kamino.

Tenya is a bit surprising, since we know he comes from a well-off hero family. Logically, this was before the whole Hosu / Ingenium plotline was really developed, so Tenya didn’t have that to fall back on, or it could be argued that the support company that Ingenium is associated with also works with UA. Alternatively, it could be that either Tenya didn’t want to rely on his family (which seems silly when they’d know how to work with his quirk best) or UA is very firm on ALL costume stuff going through them…

But then again, Katsuki. Oh god, Katsuki. What fucking support company looked at this kid and went ‘yeah we should give him a way to store more explosives AND give him bombs’ and just. Did so. Why did UA not vet that. Maybe the support company didn’t realize how strong his explosions were without the gear, but UA, man, I just. I suppose they had no way of knowing how reckless he’d be with them, but honestly, after the battle trials, they should have been fucking yoinked from him so damned fast. 

Anyways, onto other parts of Katsuki’s costume, we see he’s a fucking dork. Possibly what lowered their guard. ‘Something scary’ and ‘Dynamighte all over’. What the hell, kid. At least your designer stuck close to your design… including the huge-ass clunky gauntlets. Man, the Musketeer Trio movie poster ones are so much better looking and so, so streamlined. Works of art, they are.

Moving on, we get a bit of a flashback to ~three weeks ago, which by the calendar would be around March 20th? So a few weeks after the Entrance Exam. And Izuku is only NOW getting around to updating the quirk registry? Izuku baby seriously, how the FUCK did none of the UA staff notice the ‘quirkless’ on your application form at any point before this?

But yeah, he’s worried about his registry, so he calls Toshinori, who explains the update process. It gives the example of someone who might alter their stuff with updated information, with one or two allowed - though major ones aren’t accepted. Toshinori then says it’ll probably be okay since he started with nothing, then tries to correct himself to ‘definitely’, only to get cut off because Izuku accidentally hangs up in a panic when Inko calls out that she’s home. Haha poor Toshinori, and poor Izuku, the two anxious dumbasses. 

Anyways, moving on from that is Inko showing off the jumpsuit she made, with Izuku surprised. She admits it’s not the coolest, but she based it off of the design in his notebook (the one we saw back in chapter 1). She tells him she regrets giving up on him back then, and how he never quit regardless of her faith. She apologizes and says from there on she’ll be cheering him on with all she’s got. 

Izuku’s narration notes that it’s a symbol of his mom’s love, and that he couldn’t wear anything else, even if it’s not ‘efficient’ or ‘cutting edge’. (Or even at all decent looking.) And it’s also hinted through the present thoughts on it that it’s meant to be an homage to All Might (the smile and the hair pieces) which is just such a dorky thing.

We get to the wide-spread of hero costumes, which- wait a second.

That’s Momo’s initial hero costume design???? Why did Hori not stay with that??? It’s a LOT better than the stuff we’ve seen her in later! Like, sure, it’d still be improved with the main opening being her stomach and not her chest, but this still looks like actual human clothing and not a sexy Halloween costume variant of her hero uniform. Fucking hell, now I’m even more mad.

Tsuyu’s costume meets the approval of the discord server as basically ‘no changes needed’ asides from maybe the goggles being a bit bulky.

Tenya’s costume, I’m sorry, I know it’s an homage to your brother / family, but were the additional pipes really needed? Also, the helmet isn’t a bad idea since he goes fast, and bugs in the mouth/teeth have to suck, but it just looks so damned Gundam-y I can’t help but laugh a little.

Shouto… nah, too easy a target.

Aoyama is Aoyama. I’m actually a bit disappointed now that it’s not a magical girl costume, but alas, I suppose even Hori couldn’t be that brave.

Don’t really have much else to say about anyone else, so let’s move on.

Izuku bugs out a bit about Ochako’s costume/appearance, while she compliments his more practical looks and laments not being specific, saying it’s a bit too puffy and curvy for her. Which means it’s more the accessories which seem to be her issue with it over the main costume itself? Huh.

Anyways, after All Might confirms they’re all there, he notices Izuku’s headpieces, which are a match to his costume, and has to turn to muffle a laugh for how obvious a reference it is. Tenya steps up, asking whether they’ll be doing cityscape maneuvers again since it’s the same field used in the entrance exam. Izuku thinks to himself how cool Tenya’s costume is, while All Might explains that they’re moving onto step two - indoor anti-personnel battle training!

He explains what while villain battles are most commonly seen outdoors, statistically the worst crimes and villains are more likely to be found indoors. Confinement, house arrest, black market deals… the clever villains luck indoors to avoid heroes. Which is why the class will be split into teams of two and pit against each other, heroes versus villains style!

Ah, Tsuyu. Calling him right the heck out, as expected. All Might then notes that in this scenario, the fight won’t be against disposable robots. 

This entire page is just fucking hilarious. The class and all their questions while All Might is shaking with nerves. The fucking cheat sheet he uses to try to get back on track. Him being questioned on the lot drawing, and shaking while Izuku accidentally ends up covering for him. I just. All Might was not prepared for this mess and it shows. He was doing so much better when it was the one on one stuff with Izuku.

But yeah, Izuku notes the scenario is like from a western comic plot, and he’s also the one who ‘realizes’ the lots are like when heroes from different agencies have to team up for emergencies without prior warning. 

Lots are drawn, and we have our teams:

Izuku’s so stressed out because he still can’t really talk to her, while she’s excited to be teamed up and calls it ‘fate’ that it happened. All Might draws the first two teams to participate, and… team Izuku and Ochako (as the heroes) versus team Katsuki and Tenya (as the villains). Both Izuku and Katsuki are alert from this development…

Which makes this a good point to cut off, since it’s halfway through and we got a lot of information to chew on already. Second part should be out this weekend (hopefully).

So I saw My Hero Academia Season 1 and I'm just... in love with this show. Now I'm thirsty for more Izuocha and I NEED it. Know any fic writers for it, maybe a few fic recs? Do you write MHA fics? I swear, these two are so... perfect.

Literally, this fic is so goddamn cute. Izu writes them so well; it’s fun, heartwarming, and full of that fuzzy goodness izuocha deserves. I rec all her fics tbh, she’s amazing. 

Snowed In by theMistake

Summary:  A blizzard leaves Ochako stuck at Izuku's home for the night, forcing them both to confront feelings they would have preferred to leave untouched.

This is a soft one, too. It’s got some really sweet moments that will give you the warm and fuzzies, alongside that frustrating JUST KISS ALREADY, DAMMIT! 10/10 must read.

Summary: She wonders why those flowers keep climbing, why they reach for the sun if it's only going to burn them.

This is a great post-apocalyptic oneshot! I love this shit, I want more of this shit. Izuku and Ochako trying to survive amidst the destroyed remains of civilization? Hell yes. 

One Plus One Does Not Equal a Date (Probably?) by SingingCookie

Summary: The agency Uraraka had been interning for was having a gala and inviting some newer agencies in order to give them the chance to mingle with the other big names. She was fitting in so well at the agency, they even invited her to join in the fun! The Pro-Hero she worked under though recommended she have someone to accompany her to avoid any insistent interactions from other guests. 

Izuku was blown away when she relayed the situation to their group of friends and then looked him in the eye to ask if he would mind being her plus one. See? Not her date—her plus one.

Oh my goodness, these two trying to navigate the awkward world of emotions and crushes and dating is so much fun to read. Cookie does a fabulous job portraying Izuku’s inner turmoil and awkwardness and I love it so much. Also throwing out here to read all of Cooki’s stuff, too; they’ve got a ton of great fics!!

Mouth to Mouth by WingSongHalo

Summary: “Did I hear that correctly?” Ashido asked from behind them. “Uraraka didn’t actually need rescue breathing?”“Um,” said Izuku, “that would seem to be the case, yes.”She grinned wider than Izuku thought appropriate, given that one of her classmates had just nearly drowned. “So there was no reason for you to kiss her like her life depended on it?”His mouth dropped open. “Wh—wh—?!”

Izuku saves Ochaco from drowning, and no one will let him forget how he did it. Ochaco, on the other hand, has forgotten, and is convinced that everyone can read her mind since they seem to know about the very interesting dream she's been having.

This fic is amazing. From start to finish it’s fun, witty, in character, and all around a stellar read. It’s hilarious and adorable and I love how they capture both Ochako and Izuku’s inner voice. And the shanigans from class 1A as they tease these two is also fun. Plus, their first kiss? Oh so satisfying. Also gonna recommend their other works, as well here. 

Kiss Me by AmyNChan

Summary: It's been seven years since they met. Dreams achieved, Ochako finally says what's on her mind. 

They were on equal ground. They were pro-heroes. They had done it. Her dreams had been realized, standing on equal footing with six of her classmates and countless other pro-heroes. And with that realization… with it…“Oh god, I went to confess to Deku-kun.” 

“Confess might be too subtle a word, kero.”

While not yet finished, so far this fic is fantastic. Basically, it’s a fun exploration of Izuku and Ochako finally, finally getting together after so many years. Side note, it even has some fantastic Bakugou and Izuku moments that are absolutely golden. 

It’s Not a Date!...Right?! by taocastleprincess

Summary:  Izuku’s not overthinking it, is he? It was just on the cheek but it was something! Him? Midoriya Izuku? Taking pretty girls out and holding hands and getting kissed?It was unthinkable. Unbelievable. Ochako just said that she loves hanging out with him. To be more accurate, she said she loves when just the two of them are together. Just them. A duo. A pair. She loves that. Him and her. Her and him. Maybe she even loves hi—well, okay. This is exactly what Iida told him not to do. He told him not to overthink every single word, sentence, and action. He specifically told him to take it easy...

This one is just so goddamn cute. Iida cancels plans, but Ochako wants to hang out anyway. Cue the shenanigans. Fluffy as hell and worth all the feel good feelings.

Of course Uraraka would finally work up the courage and not only gives Midoriya chocolates but confess her feelings just when I do.*Tsuyu frowned sadly as she glanced to her side to see the valentine chocolates she had made as well as the letter she had written, confessing her love for her fellow green haired hero, then sighed.* It’s not like Midoriya would feel the same. *She started to stand and walk away, passing a gray skinned man with a large eyepatch over most of the left side of his face and bandana carrying a ladder in his blue right arm.The froggy heroine was about to reach the steps of the dorms when she heard a man call out to her.*

???: Hmm? Hey kid. You left you Valentine gift here. *Tsuyu Turned half way to find the gray man has set up a under the street light and was now holding the bag and letter.*

Tsuyu: Oh... *Tsuyu said thinking for a moment before shaking her head and turning back to head inside after saying.* Don’t worry about it. You can have it if you want actually. 

???: Are you sure? Are you suppose to give them to someone you like though? *He asked making Tsuyu stop once again and looking at the man confused.* That’s how it works here in Nihon?

Tsuyu: Yes but it wouldn’t have worked out well. Kero.

???: Did ya get rejected?

Tsuyu: Kero?

???: Did you get rejected by the guy or girl you were going to give them too? *the man asked again as she walked up to her holding out the chocolate and letter.* If not then you may as well give it a shot. Better to let your heart sing than to keep it caged.

Tsuyu: No I wasn’t rejected but it still would have worked out. My best friend actually confessed to the one I like and its better this way anyway since she has liked him longer and much better looking. Plus they are very good friends and as long as they are happy then I am happy for them. *Tsuyu told the man turning a way to go inside but pausing as she tried to stop the tears forming in her eyes.*

???: Uh-huh... That’s some bullshit. *Tsuyu heard and before she cause question or even move she watched as the gray man walk passed her using a keycard to open the door stepped inside. Tsuyu quickly followed the stranger walking the the dorms to a phone, picking it up and punching in a code as her friends looked at him with odd confession.*

Mina: Who’s that guy?

Tokoyami: I think I have seen him work on the training grounds and in school fixing things and cleaning up the damages to the grounds.

Kirishima: Oh man that guy must hate us.

Momo: But Who is he? Do you know Asui?

Tsuyu: No I just met him outside. And call my Tsuyu. *Tsuyu shrugged as she example when the man’s voice boomed over the intercoms.*

???: Well Midoriya... Izuki?... Izuku! Midoriya Izuku please come to the common room please. You have a delivery for a secret admirer. Midoriya Izuku.Come get your your damn... *The sound of a bag being shaked is heard.* I’m assuming chocolates. *The man then hung up the phone and noticed the Heroes in training all stare at him with surprise or in Tsuyu’s case shock with a pink face.* What? You said I could have them not what to do with them.

Tsuyu: Th-That didn’t mean deliver them for me, kero! *Tsuyu’s stuttered as she hushly shouted and tried to grab the chocolate and more importantly the love letter from the stranger, whom to her surprise and dismay easily dodged and evade with no effort.*

Mina: Oh ho.~ Does that mean that your Midoriya’s secret admirer, Tsuyu? *Mina smirked widely causing the frog girl to blush harder and really try to get back her chocolates and letter.*

Tsuyu: Sir! Please give those back!

Kai: Nope. Also, Names Kai. Here is my card. *Kai say simply before pulling a card literally out of no where and handled to Tsuyu with both hands, to which Tsuyu bows and accepts the card reading it.*

Tsuyu: “Kai. Jack of all trades. Private eye. Licensed Bounty Hunter.” Kero? *Tsuyu questioned, not noticing a rather bumped out look Izuku emerging around the corner.*

Izuku: Hello? I heard there was a delivery for me? *He asked, he voice startling Tsuyu as her eye quickly widen and turned before to the bandana wearing man to see him a delivery jumpsuit.*

Kai: Midoriya Izuku? Fantastic. Sign here pleasure. *he said holding a clipboard out to the one for all user, to which he signed wondering why he was holding Tsuyu back with his foot.* Thank you and Here you go. *Kai handed the bag and letter over to Izuku, to which Izuku instantly opened to read, then tossed the clipboard to the side and removed the jumpsuit revealing his normal clothes as he walked back outside.*

Tsuyu: My life is over. My friendship with Izuku is ruined now. *Tsuyu thought to herself as she watched helplessly as Izuku read the letter.* Midoriya. It’s... It’s not what you think.

Izuku: *Izuku didn’t reply at face as his entire face turned a shade of blush until slowly he looked up as the frog girl.* Ts-Tsuyu? I-Is... Is this... Is what you wrote in this letter true? *His voice nervous as he watched Tsuyu showing both fear and panic before the panic turned into nervous shyness.* 

Tsuyu: ... Kero. *She nodded looking down at the ground before gulping before speaking up.* It’s true. But I wasn’t going to tell you or give you that letter since  Ochako confessed and you two are most likely... I’m sorry. I hope that we can still be friends and not let th- *The rainy season hero’s eyes widen as she felt her head tilted up slightly and her lips met with Izuku’s for a gentle slight awkward soft kiss.*

Mina: Oh. My. God!~<3 *Mina squealed with joy jumpping up and down in her boyfriend Kirishima’s lap.*

Tokoyami: *Faints*

Momo: Oh my! *She gasped with starry eyes.*

Kirishima: YOOHOO! Way to go Midoriya!

Tsuyu: *The two’s lips break a parts and Tsuyu had one of the very few moments of her life where she was left speechless, for in that moment she and her love shared she felt the happiest in her life as well as pleasure she wanted to feel again as she touched her lips.* Izuku just... Kissed me? Shy, bravo, cute, heroic, Izuku, the guy that risked his life to save me at USJ, the guy who breaks his own body to save and inspire others, the hero I fell in love with, Izuku. Just kissed me. *Tsuyu’s mind raced in her stunned state, only to be broken out of it upon Hearing her stuttering love.*

Izuku: Ts-Ts-Tsuyu. I-I...I feel th-th-the s-s-s-same... *Izuku begin his pink blushing face becoming redder and redder, all the while Tsuyu started to use her camouflage to hide her own blush thinking how Cute Izuku is acting before the frog girl watching Izuku take a deep breath and confessed loudly.* TsuyuasuiIfeelthesameway!IhavehadacrushonyouforalongtimetooandIloveyouandadmireyoumayipleasebeyourboyfriend! *Izuku then bowed down to hide his now red face.*

Tsuyu: K-Kero... But what about Ochako? She is so much prettied then me I thought they you two... together. *Tsuyu questioned.*

Izuku: Huh? Me and Uraraka? *Izuku said confused as he looked up at the shorter heroine and shook his head.* No we are just friends. I mean I was surprised when she told me how she felt about me but I had to be honest with her and told her I only saw her as a friend and that I love you and was actually going to give you some chocolates I got for you with jelly filling. Though I do feel bad having to hurt her feeling by telling her the truth but I couldn’t lie to her and I still wanted to be her friend which luckily we still are. However after that it was really late and I wasn’t about to find you to give you the chocolate and lost my nerve to tell you. So I was just going to stay in my room when I heard my-

Tsuyu: Midoriya. Rumbling.

Izuku: H-Huh? Oh sorry. I am just really nervous actually tell you how I feel. Plus, Tsuyu, not to sound rude to Uraraka but, You are truly gorgeous. When she noticed his sliver blue eye look towards her she silently mouthed.* Thank you. *This only got a  small smile and thumb up fro the gray man before he climbed down his ladder.*

5. Do you have any poly ships?

Oh, tons! 

My biggest one would probably be sorikai—Sora, Kairi, and Riku—from kingdom hearts. They’ve been besties for years in game and each of their goals in game is to, basically, return home and make sure the other two are safe. They’re best friends and i love them!!

There’s also Jlaireby, which is Jim, Claire, and Toby from Trollhunters. I ship them for the same reasons as stated above. These three have such good chemistry and they love each other so much!!!

There are various poly ships in MHA that are pretty cute too, like izuku, ochako and iida, or those three and todoroki, or kirishima, bakugou and kaminari, but I don’t actively ship these as much.

13. Has a ship ever broken your heart?

I don’t think so. I tend to ship the characters most likely to get together, so there’s normally no like “too bad these characters won’t ever get together”, and most of the time the shows I watch have happy endings. Also when it comes to romance, I normally respect whatever the writers choose to make canon, even if I didn’t really ship it (see allur//ance from vol//tron)

Midoriya Izuku has always been written off as weird. As if it's not bad enough to be the quirkless weakling, he has to be the weird quirkless weakling on top of it.

But truthfully, the "weird" part is the only part that's accurate. He's determined not to be a weakling, and in spite of what it says on paper, he's not actually quirkless. Even before meeting All-Might and taking on the power of One For All, Izuku isn't quirkless.

Not that anyone would believe it if he told them.

I am absolutely in love with this fic!!! it’s an au where Izuku has a quirk that allows him to see ghosts and it follows all the way to the Eri arc. It’s so so sooooo good and i HIGHLY recommend it.

Yes this is a series and not a specific fic, but both New Horizons and Roads Well Traveled are really good!!! Either fic is from the point of view of Ochako and Izuku respectively and are about how the two of them navigate their second year while dealing with the ups and downs of their friendship and also as they figure out exactly how they feel for each other. It’s incredibly in character and I absolutely love how Cipher is writing it!!

This was an incredibly interesting take on best girl Connie Maheswaran and also just a really cool idea in general. It’s now part of a series that has a sequel in the works, and it has some of that adorable Connverse, as well as one of my FAVORITE stevonnie scenes I’ve ever read in one of the later chapters sooooo yeah. FANTASTIC FIC.

yes this is another series. yes it is Incredibly Long. yes it is REALLY. FUCKING. GOOD.

it was plotted and started pre-kh3 and it’s incredibly intriguing!!! very wonderful character development and realistic relationships, both good and bad, between different characters. No seriously though, this characterization is So Good. I only have two complaints, one of which is serious and the other of which is just bc im me lol.

1. Recently it’s been a little on the nose about its Life Lessons, if you will. It has good messages and stuff, but sometimes it feels kind of forced. Do Not Let This Stop You From Reading Though. It’s So Good.

2. Sora is in nearly every fic but rarely has an essential part to it and It’s Blasphemy. not really, but i love sora, he’s my son, and the fact he’s kinda been pushed to the backburner the whole time. it make SENSE why bc he doesn’t exactly need the development BUUUUUUUT i love him and want more of him.

Bakugou swung his leg back and forth, rolling his ankle around. "Does it hurt anywhere?" Recovery Girl asked, leaning towards him. "Be honest!"

Laughing, Uraraka was quick to cover her mouth, not wanting Bakugou to think she was making fun of him. But she could see him lying about his injury.

"I'm fuckin' fine! I wouldn't lie about it," he scoffed, folding his arms over his chest.

"I'm glad to hear it. Your girlfriend must have taken good care of you," she nodded.

"She's-" he began but stopped himself. Though they hadn't officially said, Uraraka still raised her eyebrows at him skeptically the moment he opened his mouth. Ignoring them, Recovery Girl continued on. "The swelling is completely gone, but if you feel pain when you use it, be sure to use the crutches again."

"Yeah, yeah. Can we go now?!" he said, pushing himself off of the examining table.

"You're all set," she said, and she seemed relieved to be rid of Bakugou from her office.

He grabbed his bag and wrapped his hand around Uraraka's, dragging her out of the room.

"This is so fantastic, Katsuki!" she said, walking out with a bounce in her step. "Now you can get back to all your practices!"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you're thrilled about this," he snorted.

"I am!" she giggled and sidled up to his side, rubbing her shoulder against his arm. "I've missed you."

"You've seen me plenty," he scoffed, his hand squeezing hers.

"I meant I've missed dancing with you!" she said, and glanced down at his foot. He was still babying it a little, not pressing his heel in completely. "Katsuki... does it still hurt?" she asked, glancing back up at his face.

He clicked his tongue, turning his head away from her. "No... I just hate walking on shit when I haven't for a goddamn week."

"Well... try walking normal. I want to make sure you're okay. I'm not letting you practice unless we know."

"Oi! You just said you've missed me!" he snapped, taking a step down on the foot with purpose. He scoffed and folded his arms. "Is this good enough for you!?"

Uraraka rolled her eyes. "Of course I miss you, but having an injury is a serious thing for any athlete! I know how much you love rugby, you would miss it if you couldn't do it ever again."

"Yeah..." he grumbled, walking forward as normally as he could. "I'd miss dancing with you too."

She giggled. "I know you would."

The two had been practically inseparable since the night before, and he was walking her back to her dorm. She almost didn't want to go, but she had promised Mina and Momo they would spend some time studying together for their upcoming exams.

He stopped outside of her dorm, but didn't stop holding her hand. "I'll see you for practice," he muttered, letting their hands swing back and forth gently.

"...really? You're okay with waiting that long?" she pouted. She didn't want to be clingy just because they had sex. Technically, he still wasn't her boyfriend. He kept shouting about how he wanted to ask her in a very specific way and he seemed to have some grand plan. She didn't want to take that from him, but she was getting antsy to find out what exactly he was planning.

They were basically dating anyway... there was no reason to put a stupid label on it, right?

"It's like a day away!" he scoffed.

Uraraka puffed out her cheeks. "How about I come to watch you and Todoroki practice tomorrow?" she suggested.

"Fine, whatever, do what you want," he said and leaned down to kiss her. "Now go be with your stupid friends."

She leaned into the kiss and tried her best not to moan. Why couldn't he come too? Or maybe they could forget studying and Bakugou could come to her room and-

No. She wasn't that needy. Just because they had sex once, didn't mean she needed to go sleep with him every night! Even if... she kinda wanted to. "What does that even mean?" she laughed, poking his nose.

"Yes I would fucking miss you!" he yelled and turned her around, pushing her towards the door to her dorm. "Now go!" he snorted.

She giggled and waved, sticking her tongue at him. "I win!" She bounded away before he could say anything else to her, pleased with the outcome. She couldn't pinpoint why he made her so darn happy, but she really did enjoy their playful banter. He challenged her in ways she never expected.

She was practically floating when she found her way to the common room, greeted by Mina and Momo.

"Hm..." Mina hummed, leaning in towards her. "Red lips... glowing cheeks... I'd say, someone got laid!" she giggled.

"Mina-chan!" Momo gasped.

"M-Mina!" Uraraka said, plopping down at the table. "Way to totally spoil my news."

"D-Did you really?!" Momo asked, leaning in quietly.

"We... did..." she said. "It was totally embarrassing too! I was in my gross dance bra and everything!"

"He's a dude, I doubt he cared about that!" Mina said, waving her hand up and down.

"Yeah… it was... actually really great," Uraraka said, cupping her own cheeks.

"So are you two... finally a thing?" Momo asked.

"Well... not exactly," Uraraka sighed.

"What!?" Mina gasped. "Even Eiji-kun and I are calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend."

"You are!?" Uraraka gasped.

"Yeah but, why are you two not?! You've been going back and forth with him for way longer than I have with Eiji..."

Uraraka sighed. Mina wasn't wrong. "He wants to ask me in some way that he feels he has to I think... something about a promise."

"Bakugou-kun is very stubborn," Momo pointed out.

"Yeah I know... it just seems sort of a silly when we're practically dating already," Uraraka shrugged. "But I guess I'll let him have his fun."

Even as she said it... she did wish they could just be together already. She tried to focus on her studying, but she couldn't stop thinking about seeing Bakugou again at practice tomorrow.

"It's been a week," Todoroki muttered, as if he didn't know Bakugou was fucking injured.

"Yeah what the fuck about it, Half and Half?!" he snorted. "I was fuckin' injured did you expect me to work on shit while I could barely walk?!"

"No. It was a simple observation," he said.

"Why the hell did you need to point it out?!" Bakugou hissed.

Todoroki raised his brow. "I was actually going to say I wanted to see what you remembered."

"You ass... It's not like I would magically forget shit after one week!" Bakugou growled, tapping his foot against the ground.

"You'd be surprised..."

At the front of the room, both Uraraka and Momo laughed as the two boys bantered back and forth. "Oi!" Bakugou yelled. "Quit laughing!" He thrust his finger towards both of them. "Especially you, Ochako! You're supposed to be on my damn side!"

Uraraka shrugged. "I'm simply observing."

"Yeah, yeah."

"Actually, Uraraka-san, if you don't mind actually partnering with him. I can watch you both and give better pointers," Todoroki said.

"Of course!"

"Oi! I thought this was supposed to impress her!" Bakugou snorted, folding his arms over his chest. If he danced with her now, it sort of defeated the whole purpose.

"Mmm well the competition is just around the corner, and this is the best way for you to learn. Plus, she knows about these 'secret' lessons now, so best utilize this time well," Todoroki explained.

Bakugou grunted, moving to the center of the room to assume position. It was easier to shut his mouth and dance than to argue with Todoroki, especially when the Half and Half idiot was right. Fuck, Bakugou hated when he was right.

"Alright," he said, "Let's begin. I'll count it out."

Bakugou curved his back and stood on his feet, trying not to baby his injured foot. It really didn't hurt anymore, but the muscle around his ankle and foot did feel tight. He really needed to make sure he stretched after this practice.

He wrapped his arm around Uraraka, and pulled her close. His mind flashed to how cute she looked, lying beneath him, panting, red cheeks and desperate. Her hair was tied back into a small ponytail, and his hand rest against her lower back. Having their bodies practically touch made him want to drag her out and back to his damn room.

Todoroki's voice echoed through the studio and Bakugou tried to focus on the counting and the sounds of their feet tapping the ground. He led her, his hand pushing against hers, his fingers curling around her lower back. He pulled her into poses, and stared into her brown eyes. They were twinkling with such excitement today, and he didn't know if he missed the look before or if things were just heating up between them.

He pulled his feet in tight and dipped her down at the end of the run and both Todoroki and Momo clapped.

"Katsuki..." she breathed. "You led so well..." Her small chest heaved as she breathed and he felt her fingers dance in his hair at the bottom of his neck.

He swallowed and nodded. "'Course I fucking did."

"That was very good," Todoroki said, sounding honestly impressed. "Maybe taking a week off was what you needed," he chuckled. "Your footwork is a little tight," he commented. "I know we told you you needed to tighten up, but you shouldn't be so stiff like robot," he continued.

"Mm..." he growled and pulled Uraraka up. "Make up your mind, Half and Half! Either I'm a robot, or I'm too loose!"

"Well, you swung too far in the other direction," he explained. "With the tango, it's okay to have sharper movement, just don't ruin your flow."

"Yeah, yeah," he muttered. "Let's try it with the damn music."

Setting up to go again, he couldn't tear his eyes away from how wide Uraraka was smiling. He knew this shit made her happy, and he was honestly glad he was the one to be making her such. At the same damn time, he was having a hard time focusing when she looked so cute.

Fuck.

If only Todoroki and his shitty girlfriend weren't here. Oh, he would show her an even better time than before.

"Katsuki?" Uraraka called, standing in the middle of the room. "You ready?"

"Yeah, yeah, twinkle toes," he snorted and made his way over, getting into the starting position. By now the dance was burned into his brain. He needed to focus and clear his brain. If he could just focus on the music and the steps-

But then he would pull her into the first pose, her leg hooking around his waist and shit. How the fuck did Todoroki do this with his stupid, hot girlfriend and not wanna die!?

He knew he had to get used to it.

He spun her, trying to keep up with the pacing of the music. He could feel his footwork getting messy. Was that a sign of improvement? That he could actually fucking tell when he was fucking up?

The music was much faster than doing it to counting, and perhaps Bakugou underestimated that. He pulled them into the final pose, panting. "Dammit..." he muttered.

"It's a little bit faster than we thought," she giggled. "I know what we'll be working on tomorrow!" she hummed.

"Fuck..." Bakugou growled.

The competition was too close for them to be behind. He wasn't going to make a fool of himself, even if it meant having to practice with her even more. At this point, he certainly didn't hate spending his time with her.

Uraraka reached over her body, stretching her arm over to her leg. She was waiting for Bakugou to show up for their private practice. Working with Todoroki and Momo yesterday was helpful, and she was honestly impressed by how quickly Bakugou improved. She was also impressed Bakugou seemed to be more willing to be critiqued by their friends.

She saw the fire in his eye, understood how seriously he was taking this. He really cared about her and he also cared greatly about the competition... or maybe it was part of his plan to care about the competition so when he asked her out she would say yes.

Even though he had to know she was going to say yes regardless.

It was strange, dancing with him yesterday; she expected to notice how amateur he was, compared to dancing with Shindou. And yet... she didn't feel it at all. She didn't long for the clean, well-planned out steps Shindou showed her, instead she was impressed by how much Bakugou improved as a lead. Working with Todoroki really had done wonders for him. He was taking over more and more, Uraraka barely had to prompt him.

She loved the spark in Bakugou's eyes. She loved how it felt like he wanted to kiss her the whole damn time they danced.

Really she loved dancing with him.

She sighed, flopping back onto the ground. What a hopeless romantic she was! She really tried to play it off like she wasn't, but it really did thrill her.

She curled her toe against the ground and lifted her leg into the air, doing stretches with her feet. Uraraka probably should've been a little concerned they were behind with learning the dance with music, but she knew Bakugou would pick it up, they had over a week left of practicing, and really what performance wasn't a little messy right down to the wire?

"OI!"

Her lips pulled into a smile, hearing his loud voice, and she immediately lowered her leg, rolling onto her stomach. "Hello Katsuki-kun!" she smiled.

"Oi... what the hell are you doing over there?" She noted the way his cheeks were flushed, and she could tell he was staring at her. It was kind of nice, knowing he wanted her just as much as she wanted him.

She pushed herself up and trotted over to him on her toes. "I was just stretching," she said. "And waiting for you."

He swallowed and raised his eyebrow. "Good," he said, dropping his bag to the floor. He took a seat on the bench and began to put his shoes on.

She wiggled her toes in her own shoes. Maybe sleeping with him had been a bad idea after all. It made her want him even now... even when she knew they needed to focus on practicing. Well... they could always spend time together afterwards.

"I think we should focus on the music today," she hummed. "You have the steps mostly down."

"Mostly?" He clicked his tongue.

"Okay, you're very good at the steps," she said, with a snort. "The most important thing now is to work on getting this to go with the music. Honestly you didn't do bad yesterday, and I think if we keep practicing, you'll totally be ready for the competition next weekend."

She kept forgetting it was so soon.

Bakugou folded his arms over his chest, looking huffy. She wondered what he planned on doing once this was all done. Sure, if they were dating they would still spend time together. That would be amazing. She would go to all his rugby games, and he would come watch all her dance performances, but she wondered what would happen between them? Would they continue to be dance partners or would he want to stop?

She knew she should just ask-

"What?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at her.

"What, what?" she blinked, surprised he noticed her staring.

"You were looking at me all fuckin' weird!" he snorted.

"N-No! Ah... sorry..." she giggled, rubbing the back of her neck. Now wasn't the time to be asking him such silly things. She should enjoy this now and decide on that kind of thing later.

"What's your deal, Cheeks?" he snorted, standing up to pat her head. "Let's do this shit, okay?"

"Right, yes," she nodded and laughing softly. She walked to the piano to start the music, then moved to the middle to stand with him.

He was so handsome when he danced, his muscular form the perfect angle and his back curved upwards. Though he was a rugby player, she silently couldn't help but think his body was built for this. His red eyes were sharp and focused and it was hard not to blush a little bit, looking at how intense he was about this.

"You look so professional now, Katsuki," she said, draping her hand over his shoulder. "You have the shoes and the look... you're even wearing better pants." She ran her fingers along his arm and slowly laced their hands together.

"I told you, I'm fucking taking this shit seriously," he snorted.

"I know," she giggled.

"Let's fucking go."

They began to run the routine a few times, Uraraka forcing Bakugou to go a bit faster. His steps weren't as sloppy as they were before, but there were a few places where he dragged his feet and Uraraka pulled them along.

"Shit," he scoffed. "The music makes shit so much fucking faster!" He stomped his foot onto the ground.

"I'm sorry, I know I'm pushing you," she said. "You were doing so great taking the lead with Todoroki and I'm ruining it."

"Shut up! We're doing it again," he scoffed, and stormed back to the middle of the room, wiping his brow with his t-shirt.

She caught a glimpse of his abs and she pursed her lips. He looked damn good... too damn good.

Right. She was focused.

They moved through the routine again, this time, he moved faster, almost too fast. She stumbled into one of the poses. "Okay, stop, stop..." she said and gripped his shoulder, her fingers sliding down his arm. "You're moving too fast," she giggled. "Split the difference."

"Fuck... okay..." he grunted, looking a little flustered.

The two of them moved back to the center of the floor and Uraraka went to turn on the iPod again, starting over.

This time, Bakugou moved with more ease. Perhaps letting him go too fast was what he needed. He was still a little slow through the step sequences, and occasionally he dipped into the poses too fast, but it was getting smoother.

"See..." she breathed. "The more we do it, the easier it will get," she smiled.

"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, wiping his brow again. He was so attractive when he did that... he really needed to stop. "The fucking music complicates shit."

"Well it would be kinda boring if we didn't have music," she said, making her way over to the piano. She leaned over to grab the iPod, turning it off.

"I guess," he sighed, walking towards her. He placed both hands on either side of her, pinning her to the piano. "There are plenty of things that work without music."

His lips pulled into a smirk, and she swallowed. She had been shamelessly staring at him all night. Maybe he noticed.

"Oh..." she said, her eyes narrowing. "Are you going to... show me... one of those things?"

He leaned down and pressed his lips to her neck, nipping at her skin. "What the hell do you think, Cheeks?"

"Katsuki..." she breathed. She wanted to tell him they were in the studio, but she also didn't want him to stop.

"Wait, wait! I'm coming!" Kirishima called out, immediately chasing after Bakugou. "So, are you and Uraraka like... a thing."

"It's none of your damn business!" Bakugou repeated, gritting his teeth as he headed down towards the rugby field.

"I'm your best friend," he whined. "Pleaseeee can't you tell me?" He flung his arm around Bakugou, pulling him towards him.

"No!"

"Ugh, c'mon man!"

"If I tell you, will you get the fuck off of me?!" he asked.

"Yes, forever and always." Bakugou rolled his eyes. This would not be the last time Kirishima would beg for personal information from him.

"An empty fucking promise, but what the fuck ever. No we're not together. I told you I was gonna ask her out at the damn competition!" Bakugou snorted.

"You're sticking to that!?" Kirishima sighed, shaking his head back and forth. "You're such an idiot about things sometimes!"

"Yes, I'm sticking to that. Just because we fucked a few times or whatever, doesn't change the fact that I'm doing this the right way!" Bakugou said.

"The right way? I think your definition of the right way is really skewed, man," Kirishima sighed.

"Whatever. If you tell anyone, I'll rip your fucking tongue out."

"Okay, okay," Kirishima said, raising his hands. "I get it, I get it!"

The two of them made their way into the locker room, and changed for practice. It was nice to be back to rugby after the stupid injury. Dancing with Uraraka was great and obviously had become a huge part of his life. But damn there was nothing better than getting to run down the field and tackle morons who stood in his way.

"Hey! Look who finally decided to come back!" Kaminari laughed, patting Bakugou on the back. "I feel like you've spent most of this season not here!" he teased.

"Shut your fucking hole, Lightning Rod. I'll bash your face into the ground during practice," he growled.

"I don't know why you bother trying to mess with him, Kaminari-kun, you know where it's gonna go!" Kirishima laughed.

"I don't know how you live with him," Kaminari muttered.

"Well you know lately, I've been spending my time in Mina-chan's room a lot," he winked. "And who knows if Bakugou will even hang out in our room any more. He's ditching me for his dance bae!" Kirishima said dramatically.

"What the fuck did I just tell you!?" Bakugou hissed. Leave it to Spiky Hair to not keep his mouth shut even for a damn second.

"I didn't say anything!"

"Wait!" Kaminari gasped, "so you are dating that dance student!? She's cute my bro! What a catch!" he sighed dreamily.

Bakugou pulled on his long-sleeved shirt and tied up his shoes, stomping away from the chatter.

"Aw c'mon! You should be proud you're dating such a cutie! If she was my girl I would be showing her off," Kaminari laughed, nudging Kirishima.

"Oi!" Bakugou snapped, turning around. He grabbed Kaminari's shirt and glared. "Uraraka is not some fucking prize I won and need to show off, dipshit!"

He threw him backwards and Kaminari stumbled. "S-Sorry man... It was just a joke."

"He's just... been touchy lately... even though he got laid," Kirishima whispered, and Bakugou scoffed. He was never telling his idiot best friend another 'secret' ever.

"What?! Bakugou got laid and is still this uptight?! Aw man... there really is no hope!" Kaminari sighed.

Bakugou jogged out to the field, attempting to avoid his idiot friends. What kind of losers felt the need to brag about their girlfriends like that?! He fucking liked Uraraka and unless they were trying to go after her, (which none of them ever fucking would) it was none of their damn business.

He reached down to the ground, stretching out his legs and ignoring the obnoxious chatter behind him.

"Oh! Young Bakugou! It is so good to see you up and about again for practice! Between the punishment and your injury, I thought we would lose you for most of the season!" All Might chuckled, giving him a pat on the back.

"...Sorry Coach..." he muttered, keeping his gaze to the ground.

"It's alright! We're glad to have you back! How is your leg doing?"

"Much better. I'm perfectly fine."

"Good! This means you'll be all set to play in the tournament next weekend."

Bakugou felt his face pale.

"Wait... next weekend?" he asked.

"Yes! Next Saturday morning!"

"Not this weekend!?" he yelled.

"No? Did you lose your schedule, Young Bakugou?"

"Fuck no! I-I mean... No!" he yelled, his heart pounding in his ears.

Next Saturday... was the ballroom competition... and the rugby tournament. On the same goddamn day.

And Bakugou had no idea what the hell he was going to do.

My Top 10 Characters are (im so sorry in advance)

10) Aoyama Yuga- Now, it's not a decent number in a top ten, but Aoyama is actually pretty underrated, and (coming from a manga reader) is a really cool character, even if he isn't as popular or has the same amount of depth as other characters

9) Yaoyorozu Momo- I originally planned for good ol Yaomomo to be higher on the list, but anyway, Yaomomo is actually a really neat character in my opinion (yeah she's a little out there for a teenager) but she tries her best and does everything she can to adapt to her surroundings

8) Uraraka Ochako (Ochaco??)- I don't have much to say as to why Uraraka is in my top ten other than she's a cute character, with good character (heh) and some pretty decent morals

7) Sero Hanta- Everybody out here absolutely SLEEPING on the legend that is Sero, I like him because he's deemed a 'plain character' compared to the others in the series, and is actually an all round good guy (he tries his best man, hell going up against Todoroki like that, impressive even though he lost it's the thought that counts)

6) Tokoyami Fumikage- Tokoyami is an absolute unit, with a crackin quirk to boot, but I like him because I relate to his attitude. That's it. He's also an aesthetically pleasing character for my inner edgelord lmao

5) Todoroki Shoto- Now, Todoroki is an op character and is widely a lot of people's favourite, he's a pretty boy with a lot of screen time, of course, but he's got a lot of depth, issues and is a good supporting character. He's goes through some decent development and I think we can all appreciate that

4) Iida Tenya- Iida is widely an underappreciated character and puts a whole different spin on the nerdy jock personality. He is not totally op but makes good use of his quirk, and thinks about what he has to do in order to (win??) get the best outcome. Also can I just say the whole hero killer arc/sport festival arc showcases his character which is almost morally grey but cares a whole lot about those close to him

3) Denki Kaminari- wheeeey- Kaminari is a fantastic character mostly because of the way the fandom perceives him, and hcs him, not to say he's not a great character in canon, he is lmao he wouldn't be 3 in the list if I didn't think that, but I like him because he is an interesting personality, and is portrayed with different layers (like an ONION) to his person (his quirk also makes for very entertaining 2am anime rewatching sprees)

2) Bakugo Katsuki- Ah yes, the worldwide asshole, and seemingly a LOT of people's favourites (y'all seriously smh we're glorifying a BULLY jk) I like Bakugo because his personality is pretty realistic, and being a difficult character has made his reformation much more meaningful. Even after the kamino arc he's still an asshole, which is a good demonstration of a character NOT entirely changing their personality after realising they're actually PRETTY shit

1) Kirishima Eijirou- (I'm half asleep and not coherent enough to fully encapsulate my love for this hard boi, but) Finally, number ONE and it's the absolute unit that is Kirishima Eijirou. my love for Kirishima derives from the personality he shows during the shie hassaikai (overhaul bros I had to look up the actual name of the arc but turns out this is what it is and it's not even official) arc. Kirishima wholly during the first few seasons is portrayed as an upbeat optimistic student with a pretty shallow personality, but in the overhaul arc it's revealed that he's much more and deals with a lot of insecurity and inner turmoil, which I relate to on an otherworldly level. The fact that he decides to change himself, altering his image and attitude to reflect what he sees as 'manly*' (*living without regret man, being courageous) and even applying to UA despite his classmates almost mocking him for it, is really admirable, and gives Kirishima a whole new meaning as a character. He's an internally flawed character with quite a lot of issues, but knows this and does everything he can to improve himself, and also holds an immense amount of respect for his classmates and peers. This is a really disjointed paragraph now that I read back on it but I can't be bothered to change it but just know that Kirishima is literally really important to me lmao someone help me I'm too attached to a fictional character

What are your favorite hero names?

oh man there are so many. I had to limit myself to a top twenty, and even that was rough. anyway so first off, a few runner ups because I couldn’t go without mentioning these:

Vlad King - to be clear, this isn’t actually one of my top hero names. but I’m mentioning it here because back when I was first reading the series, one of the fan scanlations -- either Fallen Angels or Mangastream, I forget which -- had originally translated his hero name as Brad King. which, to be frank, would have been one of the greatest hero names of ALL TIME. you can’t imagine my disappointment when I finally learned the truth. it still haunts me to this day.

Jack Mantis - this is Kamakiri (a.k.a. the guy from class 1-B who can grow knives out of his body)’s hero name. my question is, why the Jack. the mantis part, I get! that’s fairly obvious! but the “Jack” is forever a mystery to me. it just adds this little layer of intrigue.

Mr. Brave - this guy is one of the few good things to come from the Basement arc. don’t get me wrong, he is completely useless. but his name? absolutely legendary. this guy, with his power of ripping his own hair out and turning it into a sword (yes that’s his quirk), an ability that could be easily duplicated or bested by literally any jackass who just went out and bought their own damn sword, really thought to himself, “I am going to be the BEST MCFUCKING HERO THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN. I AM GOING TO NAME MYSELF... MISTER BRAVE.” and they let him, you guys. they let him.

20. Can’t Stop Twinkling - this isn’t a name so much as it is poetry in three words. I still cannot believe that Aoyama went up to Midnight with a hero name that sounds more like the world’s greatest Dear Abby letter, and she actually let him keep it. I’m not 100% clear on how this all works, but I like to think this means that Aoyama’s fellow heroes have an actual legal obligation to call him this in battle. I don’t think we as a fandom and as a people really take enough time out of our lives to stop and be grateful for Aoyama’s existence.

19. Uravity - it’s a pun!! it’s so cute and I love it!! and it’s such a perfect name in that it just instantly sums up and defines her whole brand, bringing to mind both Ochako the person and Zero Gravity the quirk. honestly she is one of only a few kids whose hero name I never space out on. with a lot of the others I usually have to pause for a sec and be like “wait, what was their name again?” but never Ochako.

18. Present Mic - this would make a really great band name honestly. I just like it. I’m pretty sure Horikoshi was going for “present” as in the verb meaning “to perform”, like in “presentation”, but to tell the truth I always pronounce it like “present” as in “gift” or “the present time”, which doesn’t make any sense at all, but IT’S JUST WHAT MY BRAIN DECIDED TO DO. anyway.

17. Tsukuyomi - I know this name has its origins in Japanese mythology, but to be completely honest I’ve always just associated it with Itachi’s infamous genjutsu attack from Naruto. I just think it’s the gothest thing ever and absolutely perfect for Tokoyami lol.

16. All Might - there’s just something about this name that kind of makes me just want to pump my fists and go “YEAH!!” I really like the use of “might” as a noun rather than “mighty” as an adjective like you see in so many classic superhero names. it’s just so much cooler somehow. this name really does conjure up the image of the strongest guy in the universe.

15. Midnight - honestly I’m almost mad that this wound up being a hero name, because it would have made a perfect villain name. it’s dark and mysterious and sexy. it’s no wonder why Midnight chose it lol. anyway so my girl is a bit kinky, nothing wrong with that, and it’s also a perfect name for someone whose quirk puts other people to sleep. it’s just such spot-on branding, I love it.

14. Ingenium - fun fact, I had no idea what this meant when I first came across it because I don’t speak Latin! apparently it means “genius” or “talent.” which is a very good meaning for a hero name! but honestly the real reason I love it so much is because it’s Iida’s tribute to his brother, and I am just such a sucker for that kind of shit. damn you Iida siblings. quit giving me all these feels.

13. Shouto – yes, seriously. I know a lot of people hate this name, and it’s always getting flak for being bland and uncreative. but I honestly think it’s a perfect name for Shouto. firstly because Shouto himself is very much the opposite of flashy in a lot of ways. he’s not particularly animated or attention-seeking; he is a very calm, sort of still-waters-run-deep person, and I think the lack of a snappy brand name fits that personality. I’m even more delighted that it hasn’t remotely curbed his popularity at all (at this point I think the only kid hero with more in-universe fans out there is Momo, and even then it’s probably a close thing), and I think a big part of that is that people are drawn to his unpretentious nature, especially in comparison to a lot of the other heroes out there. but most of all, I like the name because of the simple yet powerful way it serves as a declaration that he is his own person. he’s not his father, and he’s more than just a Todoroki. he is himself; he is Shouto. anyway so yeah, to me this is a fantastic name with so much depth and meaning.

12. Battle Fist - this is Kendou’s hero name AND IT’S PERFECT. like, holy shit. what should we call the girl who goes around punching bad guys around all day with her giant hands. how about BATTLE FIST. there really isn’t much more to say about this one, honestly. its greatness speaks for itself.

11. Vantablack - imagine being such an enormous douchebag that word of your douchey exploits made it all the way over to some guy in Japan who spends 95% of his waking hours writing a manga and has almost no free time. fun fact, although Anish Kapoor is the only one licensed to use the color Vantablack, the name Vantablack is still owned by Surrey NanoSystems (a.k.a. the guys who actually invented it), and so I’m pretty sure they’re the ones who decide whether or not someone else gets to use it. I wonder if Kapoor is pissed about his color being referenced in a popular shounen manga. anyways, all of that speculation aside, it really is the perfect name for someone with Kuroiro’s quirk.

10. Endeavor - look, say what you will about Endeavor the person (although I’m personally a big fan of the way his redemption arc is being done and think he’s a fascinating character, albeit a very flawed one), but there’s no denying that Endeavor is a badass name. but what’s really great about it is how it so perfectly captures the admirable part of Endeavor, the one thing about him that’s actually worth praising. he never gives up. he’s always pushing, striving, struggling forward no matter how hopeless it seems. and that’s a worthy trait, and it says something about him that this is what he chose for his hero name. a name that has nothing to do with fire, nothing to do with his quirk, nothing even to do with his goal of becoming #1. it’s simply a name that means to make an effort; to try and achieve something. and I like that.

9. Sugarman - this IMO is easily the most overlooked and severely underrated hero name in the series. it’s a hidden gem. everyone always forgets about Satou just because his power of being a Strong Punching Guy doesn’t particularly stand out in a manga chock full of strong punching guys. but he is a badass and a great character, and honestly “eating candy makes me super strong” is possibly the single greatest quirk in the history of time and I am jealous. anyway, so this is a really straightforward name, but it’s really smooth and catchy somehow and so it’s one of my favorites.

8. Gale Force - this is Inasa’s hero name! it’s another one which is criminally underrated, much like Inasa himself. airbender powers are just so badass you guys. wind is so badass. this name is all hurricaney and tempesty and super cool and powerful-sounding. this is one of those names that I’m honestly surprised wasn’t already a mainstream superhero name. Marvel was all “nah, we’ll just go with ‘Storm’”, like come on you guys where is the creativity.

7. Red Riot - this name is a fucking grand slam. it’s alliterative! it’s catchy! it’s got the word “riot” in it! it’s an absolutely perfect name for a passionate guy whose quirk lends itself towards good old fashioned brawlin’ and head bashing. the fact that it’s got additional meaning as a tribute towards Kiri’s own personal hero is just the icing on the cake. this is another name that Marvel probably legit wishes they had thought of first. it’s easily the best hero name out of everyone in class 1-A imo.

6. Sir Nighteye - hilariously for the longest time it was not confirmed whether or not Nighteye actually had a real name (he does! but I’ve forgotten it lol), and so there was this lingering question, absurd as it was, of whether or not Nighteye’s parents, whoever they are, were descendants of some proud Nighteye clan, and whether they had really, actually named their child “Sir.” anyways though, I love this name. it’s super cool and mysterious and perfect for someone with future-seeing powers, and the “Sir” just makes even awesomer because it implies that the Queen really liked him or something.

5. Mt. Lady - this name is a stroke of genius. supersize-me powers are a dime a dozen, but the characters always have names like Giant Man or Giganta or Goliath. as far as I know, no other superhero characters have ever thought to name themselves after mountains, let alone to name themselves as if they WERE a mountain. like, she isn’t “mountain lady”; she’s “MOUNT Lady”, as if she were an actual tectonic peak. it really bothers me that I can’t adequately describe in words why I love this so much. I just do!! I think she should get an award.

4. Suneater - Tamaki is out here proving to everyone that your hero name doesn’t need to have jack shit fuckall to do with your actual quirk in order to be completely badass and iconic. sometimes I wonder what Tamaki does when people ask him “out of curiosity, why did you pick that name?”, which someone surely must have done at some point. he probably turns beet red and tries to dissolve into the background. but anyway, the general public does not need to know the meaning of his hero name in order for it to have meaning; we know what the meaning is, and that it’s his way of saying “I believe in myself because my friend believes in me”, and honestly that’s all that matters. I am still of the opinion that certain other people whose childhood friends held a lot of unwavering belief in and admiration towards them could do worse than going down this same hero name route, but we will see! anyways Suneater deserves all your respect.

3. Best Jeanist - I had so much love for this name from the start, and then I found out it was a real, actual award. for people who make good jeans, or are good at wearing jeans, or something. it’s run by the Japan Jeans Council, which is also a real and actual thing. but anyway, despite it not being as wholly original of a name as I thought, it’s still iconic, and I love that he went with something that was recognizable while still fitting his quirk, and which has the added implication that he is the motherfucking best, because he is. also, given that he probably chose this name while he was still in school, and that only public figures generally seem to be eligible for the award, this implies that he chose the name Best Jeanist first, and then went on to win the actual award eight years running. presumably because the JJC got very flustered and were all, “IT’S LITERALLY HIS NAME... WE HAVE TO GIVE IT TO HIM... WE HAVE TO”, and so they did. anyway so that was a goddamn power move on his part.

2. Gang Orca - first of all, if you are an orca man, then naming yourself after orcas is a pretty apt thing to do and I have to respect that. but then along comes the “gang” part, out of absolutely NOWHERE, and it absolutely SMASHES. like, this name comes up to you and it slaps you in the face. GANG ORCA. HE’S A BIG AGGRESSIVE DOLPHIN MAN AND HE’S NOT HERE TO FUCK AROUND. IS HE ACTUALLY IN A GANG?? WE DON’T KNOW. BUT HERE HE IS, READY TO YEET YOUR DELINQUENTS AND HUNT YOUR MOTHERFUCKING SEALS. this name fucks so hard it came within inches of the number one spot. he is a ruffian and a champ.

1. Eraserhead - last but not least, the guy who DIDN’T EVEN PICK HIS OWN NAME. his best friend had to do it for him, and out of love, came up with the SINGLE BEST HERO ALIAS IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND. first of all, this name sounds like a very funky and electronicy Thom Yorke song. second, it conjures up the image of a man with a big no. 2 pencil head, which could not possibly be further from the truth. it’s just so whiplashy in the best way possible. third, the very existence of this name is seriously a goddamn miracle. he could have been “Power-Stopping Man.” or “Sleeping Bag Man.” or “Scruffy Hero: Tired Man.” or just “Shouta”, but unlike Shouto there wouldn’t have been any actual meaning to it; it would have simply been a case of him not giving the slightest of fucks about coming up with a real name. but rather than any of these, thanks to the power of friendship we were blessed with the greatest hero name in recorded memory. this is one of the few kindnesses fate has ever bestowed upon Aizawa Shouta in his tragic, exhausting life, and I for one am eternally grateful.

Merry Christmas! Clearly, the best way to celebrate is to finish up the reread for chapter 8, featuring our favorite gremlin being the gremlin he is. Oh, and I guess Deku is here too.

[No. 8 - Rage, You Damn Nerd!]

...you know, I just realized the nerd being referenced here is Katsuki. Because we all know he’s just as much of a nerd as Izuku (reference: he’s third in the class rankings behind the actual scholastic geniuses Momo and Tenya) and he seems to be the main one raging in this chapter and volume. 

Anyways, where we left off, it was just determined that Team Izuku Ochako (heroes) are facing off against Team Katsuki Tenya (villains). The villain team gets to go in first, and have five minutes before the hero team gets to go in. Everyone else is watching via live feed. All Might tells the two ‘villains’ to adopt a villain mindset, and to go out all, don’t hold back… and then says he’ll stop things if they go too far.

All Might,,, All Might, why did you tell the two most Extra™ kids in the class to go all out and to not hold back? Like, what the fuck did you expect here? Not to mention that means Katsuki was, technically speaking, sticking to the letter of the instructions, if not the spirit of things. 

But yeah, while Tenya is worrying about playing a villain role and the paper mache bomb they’re guarding, Katsuki is still caught up on Izuku actually having a quirk. Tenya’s confused and notes the monstrous strength he had, along with the risk it puts him at, and asks him not to charge right at Izuku. Katsuki’s response:

Gremlin mode activated. Or maybe the Cain Instinct, hard to say with them. At least they aren’t girls - according to discord, if they had both been girls, one or both would probably be dead at this point from trying to maul each other. 

Anyways, we transition outside, with Ochako and Izuku memorizing the blueprints. She mentions being relieved that there’s no punishment for failure, so she’s not worried, and also thinks All Might’s super nice. She also can tell Izuku’s worried, which isn’t hard with how he’s shaking. Izuku mentions that it’s because they’re up against Kacchan… and Tenya as well, and that they should be on guard. And- huh.

Ochako is already well aware of the relationship between the two. Not that Izuku was really trying to hide it, but like. A welcome reminder that she is very observant and good at deducing this kind of thing. She is just. Such a good bean. 

But yeah, we get a brief Izuku flashback to Katsuki’s boasting, and then Izuku mentions how Katsuki is a jerk, but he‘s also amazing, mentioning that his goals, confidence, strength, and his quirk all show how he’s stronger than Izuku at this point… but that that’s also why Izuku doesn’t want to lose to him now. 

So again, a friendly reminder that Izuku has no rose-tinted glasses when it comes to Katsuki, he knows how much of a jerk and a bully Katsuki is, but he still admires a lot of Katsuki’s qualities despite all that. 

But yeah, Ochako determines that he is / wants to be Katsuki’s fated rival; Izuku apologizes for boring her with it, but she says it’s not a bother at all, and that they’re a team. Izuku has a moment of wordless surprise at that, and then we get into the trial proper. 

In the viewing room, All Might tells the other students to watch closely and try to learn something. And we get a fantastically dramatic pose with him holding a pen and clipboard.

I can’t even with this man, what a ham. It’s good to know he’s going to avoid favoritism in grading for the classes, it does show that he’s trying to take this as seriously as he can. 

Back with the duo, they’ve just snuck in through a window, with Izuku noting the number of blind corners they’ll have to avoid. As they make their way into the building, Izuku thinks about how he can’t regulate One For All, thus he can’t use it directly against someone because it would kill them. So he notes that all he can rely on is his natural strength and Ochako’s quirk. 

So his notebooks aren’t just quirks, but all aspects (apparently) of hero fights. Which does make sense, but I think some parts of the fandom play it up a bit too much, either making it like breakdown personality analysis (which is not something we’ve seen as a strength of his) or, like, borderline stalkerish, which just has me roll my eyes every damn time I hear that word in relation to him. Like, get the fuck over yourselves, he’s allowed to have things he’s passionate about.

Anyways, we have one panel of calm before the storm comes blasting in.

...did he really make that leap around every corner just in case Izuku was there?? He’s so damned extra, I can’t even with this gremlin. Also, a nice dodge/save by Izuku, though the side of his face is smoking a bit. We see that the left side of his facemask has been blown away, as it deserves. Izuku checks if Ochako’s okay, and she says she is, and that Katsuki came out of nowhere. Katsuki mocks a bit about the nice dodge, and Izuku replies/tells Ochako that he expected Kacchan to come right at him.

In the viewing room, Kirishima calls out the sneak attack as unmanly; All Might corrects him, saying they’re a valid strategy and that this is practical experience. Ashido, meanwhile, is impressed with Izuku’s dodge. (Also, she calls him ‘Midori’, which validates my belief that she WOULD call him that in my fics, hoorah me!)

Anyways, Katsuki really making it clear how he like to push the limits of the rules:

And then Izuku just. Grabs his arm and fucking yeets him over his shoulder. Ochako calls it a pro move, while Katsuki is like ‘what the fuck, did he just read my moves?’ Honestly, that final slam into the ground is just so intense for a relatively ‘weak’ move in shounen terms. Fantastic, I love it. Katsuki has to take a moment to recover, while the class watches on and Izuku is In The Moment.

As Katsuki picks himself up, Izuku goes into how Katsuki always leads with a right hook, and that he’s seen it enough to know. Izuku mentions that he’s analyzed the heroes he thinks are awesome in his notebook - the one Katsuki blew up and chucked out a window. Katsuki is shown recalling the moment while Izuku continues on - he’s not gonna be a punching bag for Katsuki anymore, he’s gonna be the Deku who always does his best. 

(I love the subtle implications that Katsuki is one of the ‘heroes’ he’s analyzed! Which is one of those first nods to how Izuku views Katsuki as someone to emulate!)

Ochako has her own flashback to where she mentioned Deku just screams ‘do your best’ and how Izuku had been taken with that. Katsuki is even more pissed off that he still spouts that kind of thing while scared (which is true, we do see Izuku shaking while he’s making that declaration). And Tenya… is frustrated that Katsuki ran off on his own, and doesn’t know what his partner for the exercise is thinking.

And with that comes the end of the chapter! Damn, I am almost mad at myself for putting it off, but we got through it now, and we have more battle trials to go! Thanks for all the patience, and next time we’ll get to see how the fight between Izuku and Katsuki goes! :D

[No. 10 - Breaking Bakugou]

(Technically there could be a Breaking Bad-kugou joke here. Just saying.)

Character sheet! I love how Katsuki’s described repeatedly as ‘explosively X’ for each part of him. Especially him being explosively petty. Also, confirmed canon that the skin on his palms is especially thick - likely from the callouses from the blowback of his quirk! Which means he might not necessarily be able to feel things under his palm or even fingers, depending on just how thick those callouses are. 

(Also pfft, Hori telling Katsuki to pull up his pants already.)

In case you’ve forgotten how big the explosion Katsuki just set off was. Man, just look at all the damage, I’m shocked the building didn’t outright collapse. I mean, I guess buildings are a bit sturdier than movies like to show, but still, all those cracks and faultlines, especially on the neighboring buildings… 

Anyways, neither Tenya nor Ochako are prepared for how much the building is rocked by said explosion. Ochako recovers faster and decides to take advantage by tapping her fingers to her palms and then running for the bomb. 

(Also, the bottom of her shoes squish. How is that at ALL practical to run around in???)

Tenya realizes what she’s doing and moves to intercept, while Ochako thinks about how all she needs to do to win is to touch the weapon. She leaps over Tenya, having made herself weightless with that previous palm-tap technique (as Tenya realizes out loud), and then dispells it on herself in order to let gravity take her right towards the prize. She mentions as she falls that that special move takes a lot out of her.

Tenya, however, has the speed to yoink the bomb out of her way before she can grab it, shocking her and distracting her so that she makes a tumbled landing, her helmet bouncing away as she rolls back-first into the wall. Tenya notes that her quirk is no threat so long as she can’t touch anything, and slides back into his ‘villain persona’ as he tells her to keep struggling as he continues to waste her precious time. She grits her teeth as she mumbles that she’s counting on Deku, likely to come through with another distraction for her to get the weapon.

Yes, Katsuki is totally calm and rational right now. Honest to god, why was he given those gauntlets? Also, just noticed that Izuku’s got a layer of clothing/something under his costume, since that is not his bare skin. Seems to be a bit more explosion-resistant as well? Or perhaps that’s just shounen physics at work.

Katsuki taunted Izuku, and Izuku picks himself up while noting how the explosion was directed forward, thus giving him a ranged attack. Which makes sense considering that he can’t direct the energy of his normal explosions from dispersing in all directions equally in normal situations. Izuku puts a hand to his headset, asking after Ochako, and Katsuki calls Izuku out on ignoring him.

Kirishima asks All Might why he’s not stopping the match, saying Katsuki is crazy and looking to kill. All Might, however, thinks otherwise, considering some of Katsuki’s previous statements.

Ahahaha even his tentative complement of Katsuki’s ‘restraint’ is immediately redacted by the ‘just that petty’ comment. Also, All Might can hear everything all the students are saying, headset on or off, while they’re out there in the field. And you want to know something interesting he heard two chapters back?

I have to wonder how much All Might knows about Izuku’s history versus what he keeps to himself… I can’t imagine Izuku would mention the bullying, so this might have been the first he was hearing about it. :)

Anyways, he calls Katsuki out on using that move, noting that massive attacks like that being used indoors could easily bring the stronghold down around them, and that it’s a bad move for both heroes and villains, as well as a good way of losing points. All Might then thinks about how he should be stopping the match as a teacher, but…

(All Might knows it's the responsible thing as a teacher to stop the match immediately, but he also knows that his successor NEEDS to be able to prove himself as an equal to someone who looked down on him and bullied him before now, especially with Izuku so determined to not lose to Katsuki for once. It was a quiet kind of passion, one he hasn't heard from Izuku before, and he can't take that chance away too quickly, even if he wants to intervene and knows he should be.

And yes, I know his reasoning for his hesitation is more directly mentioned in a bit, but it’s a good place to remind people who seem to think he was thoughtlessly irresponsible here that he knew damn well what he was doing, and that it was for Izuku’s sake that he held back from ending the match early.)

Katsuki complains about the chastisement, while Izuku confirms Ochako’s location in the bomb room and starts trying to plan again. Katsuki leaps forward at Izuku with renewed intent to beat him into the ground, startling Izuku as he realizes he has no way to dodge, only counter-

Katsuki learns FAST from his mistakes in battle, and it shows. 

(Also, just realized there wasn’t an underlayer for Izuku’s costume, it was just that scrap of sleeve looking weird in that image. My bad!)

Shouto explains what just happened - Katsuki feinted with his first explosion while using it to leap around back, and then used a double explosion to maximize the force behind the blow to Izuku without being thrown back out the hole he made earlier. Yaoyorozu notes that while Katsuki doesn’t seem like a thinker, his battle strategy is fairly intricate, while Kaminari gripes about how good he is.

While Izuku is recovering from that attack, Katsuki sweeps in with an announced reight hook, Izuku barely having time to turn to look before he gets fucking clocked in the side by Katsuki’s gauntleted arm. He then grabs Izuku’s right arm, spins him around using a series of small explosions to build momentum, and then bodily slams Izuku down into the ground while saying Izuku is nothing compared to him. 

Izuku realizes Katsuki’s giving him no time to think, and that he’s just to strong, so he has to use ‘it’, aka One For All. The class is in shock, one saying that his actions are torture and that he could have ended it with the capture tape already, while another notes that it’s not very hero-like, and a third that they thought Izuku was good, but that Katsuki’s battle sense is unbeatable, and that he’s all instinct.

‘A part of him seems calm’ my fucking ass. 

Izuku surries away in a panic while Katsuki looms after him. Ashido comments on him running, while Kirishima says that it’s not manly, but Izuku doesn’t have a choice, even if the situation is odd (i.e. probably noting that Izuku hasn’t used his quirk yet, even though he knows how strong said quirk is since he was in the same arena as Izuku.) Izuku slams against a wall, bracing himself for Katsuki’s next move.

Katsuki demands to know why Izuku won’t use his quirk, and whether Izuku is mocking him, like he always has since they were kids. Izuku says Katsuki’s wrong, but Katsuki barrels on, saying how he knows Izuku is looking down on him. All Might thinks more about stopping them, but that he can’t take this from Izuku. Izuku says that it’s because Katsuki’s awesome that he wants to beat him.

The two of them are yelling at each other now (very shounen moment), Izuku about how he wants to win and beat Katsuki, while Katsuki tells Izuku to stop ‘looking at him like that’. All Might is in the middle panel between them, thinking about how he hasn’t seen izuku this pumped since the ‘I wanna be a hero’ thing. The class is looking on, someone noting how confident Katsuki is. All Might continues to think as the two boys move in for their respective attacks, noting that this battle is necessary for Izuku’s future. 

Izuku’s right arm crackles with the power of One For All as he begins to shout out his smash, while Katsuki’s prepping an explosion in his right hand. Kirishima shouts how bad this is and is almost begging All Might to stop this, and All Might is shaking with nerves as he holds back. He is just in the middle of telling the two to stop when Izuku shouts at Ochako, startling All Might into stopping. Ochako grabs the pillar, Tenya is confused, and Izuku watches Katsuki while he thinks about how he can’t measure up in a one-on-one fight, but.

Seriously, how did this building not collapse at all during this exercise???

Anyways, Ochako swings the pillar around, slamming all the other debris blown upwards towards Tenya in a ‘Comet Home Run’. Tenya says it’s no home run (which I imagine has to be in the exact same tone as ‘that’s no moon’) while shielding himself from said debris, which means he misses Ochako taking another flying leap towards the bomb until it’s too late.

Meanwhile, down below, Katsuki is looking at the damage done in absolute shock, like, he’s absolutely SHAKING as he repeats his belief that Izuku’s been mocking him from the start. 

Izuku’s right arm is in ragged disrepair, and his left he used to block Katsuki’s explosion is not exactly in better shape. He’s quivering as well from the shock and pain as he tells Katsuki that he didn’t want to use his power because he can’t - the blowback messes him up too much. It’s like Aizawa-sensei said, but it was all he could do at that point to win. 

This is really just a fantastic way to end the chapter. All Might’s hesitation as what just happened sinks in before he announces the win, Izuku finally collapsing unconscious as his body gives out on him, and Katsuki’s worldview thoroughly shaken as what just happened sinks in for him as well. Like, look at that, that is SUCH a mess of emotions he’s experiencing.

What a roller coaster of emotions. What a good character growth moment for everyone. 

I suppose next chapter, then, is the fallout and some stuff from the other kids in 1a. Hopefully that will go up this weekend!

Chapter three! I already skimmed through it and just. Holy fuck I’m falling in love with this series all over again, and this is just the opening arc, how the hell is this so good??? I’m genuinely just in awe and fuck is it making it hard to decide where to have a cut-off point for this chapter. I suppose we’ll just have to see what fate decides.

(Also, the temptation to just paste in all of the last three pages of the chapter is so incredibly strong, you don’t understand.)

[No. 3 - Entrance Exam]

We start off with some exposition: UA’s hero course is designed to give students all they need to go pro, and is the toughest and most popular hero course in the country, with only a 1 in 300 acceptance rate. Discounting the four slots that are recommendation students, that’s 36 slots a year, which is about…

Yeah. That’s a lotta applications, and that’s just for the hero course! 

Several alumni are mentioned: All Might, who declined the people’s choice award; Endeavor, who’s stopped more crimes than anyone else in recorded history; and Best Jeanist, who’s won the Best Jeanist award eight years running. (One of these things is not like the other~ One of these things just doesn’t belong~) The exposition suggests that graduating from UA is basically a requirement for becoming a great hero - something which we’ll learn soon enough isn’t quite true.

But yeah, Endeavor with the record for crime handling, even above All Might. Quite the impressive hero, though that face…

Not precisely reassuring.

So yeah, Izuku here mentions the date of the exam - February 26th. I figure that this has to be a Sunday, for the simple fact that Japan has a slightly different school schedule than us. Most notably: Japanese schools (some of them, anyways) have 5.5 day school weeks. Yes, that means the first half of Saturday can still be a school day. 

While I couldn’t confirm for sure whether this is more common among the higher end schools, I feel like a school like UA, with its ‘Plus Ultra’ motto, would definitely be a school to have a half-day (or even a full day) on Saturdays, and since they also have to accomodate for middle schools that have Saturday morning classes, I figure that it would make the most sense for UA to schedule this exam on a Sunday. 

The benefits of this, as we’ve already seen, is that we can then narrow down the timeline for the rest of the series, just based on that single, confirmed date. We know from the last chapter that the Sludge Villain had to happen on a Thursday or Friday of the first week of school (April 14th/15th), with the first training session two days later (the 16th/17th). But what this also gives us is when Izuku’s first year of UA starts, AND the possible years it could start on. 

Since we see the glowing baby is in a modern hospital, we can assume that’s correlated to about our times. Give it a few generations, and we can guess that we’re in the 2200s or 2300s for the current era. Based on that assumption, we get the following years that have February 26th on a Sunday:

23rd century potential years: 2204, 2209, 2215, 2226, 2232, 2237, 2243, 2254, 2260, 2265, 2271, 2282, 2288, 2293, 2299

24th century potential years: 2310, 2316, 2321, 2327, 2338, 2344, 2349, 2355, 2366, 2372, 2377, 2383, 2394, 2400

As a side note, when I got into the series, my brain weirdly latched onto the idea that this had to all be happening in the year 2317. I don’t know why I decided on that number, but that’s what I rolled with, and hilariously I could be RIGHT about the year the current manga arc is happening in, provided Izuku’s first year is in 2316. Sometimes you just know, ya know? I know at least one other friend made these calcs independently of me and chose to run with 2237, which is totally valid! Probably makes more sense to be in the 2200s, but there’s room depending on how much time one thinks has passed.

As for when Izuku’s high school school year starts, we know that Japanese schools start on the second Monday of April. Since we don’t know if this is a leap year or not, we’ll end up with two dates, but that’s fine!

Feb 26 (Sun) -> Feb 27 (Mon) -> March (6/5, 13/12, 20/19, 27/26) -> April (3/2, 10/9)

Therefore, Izuku’s first day of classes (not counting the orientation, which I’ve seen a few other timelines assume is on the Sunday before classes start) is April 10th (or the 9th if a leap year)! I know this is all in the future from this chapter, but still, I wanted to share this at some point and figured now was as good a time as always.

Math!

Sorry, I’ve just wanted to share this math I did for a while now, I put a lot of work into it and I am very proud of it. Let’s get back to the chapter.

So Izuku lives a 40 minute train ride away from UA, and has made it just in time for the exam. Apparently, this is only the practical portion? Or well, that’s the part that gets focused on in this chapter, with no mention of the paper exam. I would imagine they’d be the same day, though? But I suppose one can do whatever they like with it.

He’s standing there looking at the school, thinking about how he didn’t have a chance to test the power, while the other students head in-

Excuse me, Toga?? I know that hairstyle is just a bit off, but… ???

...right, anyways. Izuku is wondering whether the hair really did anything (also, it was apparently sour, which, ew.) Katsuki comes up behind him and tells him to move aside.

Truly a flattering image. Izuku panics a bit and greets him, but Katsuki just walks by without another word or gesture, leaving Izuku confused as he watches him head on into the building. The narrative notes that since the villain incident, Katsuki hadn’t bothered Izuku, while the unnamed characters in the background apparently recognize Katsuki from the ‘sludge’ incident (well, not shocked how the fandom held onto that name). 

Izuku notes that he’s gotta stop flinching instinctively, and then tries to hype himself up, noting that it’s not like before, and think about the past ten months while taking a wobbly step forward- and then tripping over himself.

I’m sorry Izuku just has so many fantastic faces in this chapter I am crying trying to limit myself to just a few. But yeah, that little derp as he realizes what’s happening is adorable, especially while Ochako gently sets him back on his feet. She mentions that it’s her quirk, and apologizes for using it, but that it’s a bad omen to trip and fall. (I wonder if that gets played with again during later parts of the series… will have to check to see.)

While Izuku freaks out over talking to a girl, Ochako notes that the exam is nerve-wracking, and then heads off while wishing both of them luck as Izuku stares after. 

This fucking kid. I love him so much. His flustered excitement gets him some weird looks from the others still outside.

We transition to a new character (Present Mic) who immediately shows off his performative side by calling for a ‘hey!’ which… is met with silence from the crowd. He doesn’t let this throw him off, instead letting them know that he’ll present the guidelines for the practical, followed with a ‘YEAH!’ that gets met with an even heavier silence.

Izuku and Katsuki are seated next to each other, with Izuku descending right into excited muttering over Present Mic and how he listens to his radio show every week. Also with the assumption that all the UA teachers are pro heroes, which I mean, true, but still. Katsuki tells Izuku to shut up.

Present Mic explains the test: ten minute long ‘mock cityscape maneuvers’, with the applicants split among seven arenas, labelled ‘A’ through ‘G’. With more than 10k applicants total, that’s about…

Yeah, more than 1500 per arena. Fucking hell, no wonder the robots deplete so quickly in only a few minutes. Also of interest:

“Bring along whatever you want.” So technically, if Izuku were able to procure the tech and training to handle the robots, there would be nothing keeping him from getting into UA quirkless… though I imagine any kid who gets in mostly on tech probably gets side-eyed… though if said kid made their OWN tech, they might also get an offer from the Support department.

(AU where Mei accidentally took the heroics exam and got a shitload of points, but she ended up taking the offer for Support instead despite setting the record for most points in said exam. Katsuki forever wants to fight her. Izuku and her are good friends.)

Also, another thing I love is how Katsuki just told Izuku to shut up a moment ago, and then:

He’s the one to initiate conversation on the details of the test, basically agreeing on the reasoning behind dividing up the students between arenas. Katsuki is annoyed at not being able to crush Izuku, which has Izuku awkwardly silent. 

Also mini-Mic.

Poor, poor Mic. He just wants audience participation. Anyways, he continues on to explain the points system, with the help of cute little Mario-themed silhouettes. There are three kinds of faux villains, with different points awarded for defeating each based on their difficulty levels. Also, attacking other examinees is prohibited!

A student (cough Tenya) raises their hand to ask a question, going on to note that the handout sheet appears to have four varieties of villain, and that such a blatant error (if it is one) reflects poorly on Japan’s top academy. He then spins around and points at Izuku, calling him out for his muttering and how distracting he’s been, and that ‘if this is some sort of game to you, then please leave immediately!’ 

Is that… Mineta seated behind Izuku? I can’t find another panel that disproves that theory, so. Whelp. If you ever for some reason want to have Izuku accidentally deal with the grape early, he’s right there. 

Anyways, Present Mic brings the convo back to the initial question/comment, noting that the fourth villain is worth zero points, and is more of an obstacle. He then brings up Super Mario Brothers, the old retro game, and compares the Zero Pointer to a thwomp. There’s one per site, serving as a gimmick that’ll rampage in close quarters. Tenya thanks Mic and apologizes for the interruption. 

And so we get our final words from Present Mic:

??? either he's referencing the original guy (which I think would be a misquote because I doubt OG Nap ever noted anything like that) or some French hero or the like who took on the name.
