thor: love and thunder's ruthless degradation of new asgard
remember how in thor: ragnarok, asgard was blown up but it was justified because "asgard's not a place, it's a people"?
even though the destruction of this ancient realm was treated like a joke there was some semblance of a future for the surviving asgardians, a sense that thor would have an important role ahead of him in helping his people to rebuild in the wake of their relocation. and that thanks to good leadership asgard would come out of this stronger.
then endgame happened, and all of thor's development was undone. and THEN love and thunder continued this trend. guess what, thor still has no idea who he is! he was never ready to be king after all! the only thing he knows how to do is go out on adventures and fight people!
but in thor: love and thunder, this isn't the case at all. new asgard is a tourist destination: in fact, it seems like that's all it is. there seems to be none of asgardian culture remaining at all. most people wear midgardian clothes, the kids thor interacts with claim they've never been taught how to fight, there's no sign of anything magical around new asgard, and king valkyrie's government comes across just like any midgardian bureaucracy, suits and all.
how can you claim that asgard is a people and then not show them acting asgardian at all? i actually find the concept that asgard's entire history and cultural identity has been stripped away so quickly deeply upsetting. the early thor films had so much fascinating worldbuilding and i hate that one writer/director took all of that away just because he... isn't interested in it.

Love & thunder is TDW only without Loki
And wether you like it or not,
Ragnarok is Thor rip off.
Thor loses hammer, there is a badass female, Thor lands on different planet, befriends a group of people, they help him go back to Asgard, where he fights his sibling who took over Asgard and something gets destroyed at the end. In Thor its (almost but Thor stops it) Bifrost, in Ragnarok its entire Asgard

I saw a post that said "people shouldn't be angry at Taika for not making Love and Thunder gayer. Disney is the homophobic one."
And I honestly get one, but it's also on Taika. Don't promise if you can't deliver. He hyped people up for no reason. He shouldn't have. He was possibly one of the few people who knew what will happen in the movie.
Even weeks before the premiere it was "super gay".
He lied. That's it.

If my past self had know this headline I would probably felt satisfied and happy the two movies I hated the most actually got the public rejection I wished on them.
But after the MCU slaughtered Loki’s characterization, nothing really matters anymore.

As much as I dislike Thor: Love and Thunder, I have to give it credit. Ever since it came out, I’ve noticed a lot more people being critical of Ragnarok in retrospect. It is now much more acceptable to criticize Ragnarok (and its characterization of Thor) compared to several years ago. When Love and Thunder was first announced, I feared it would further solidify Ragnarok as the definitive Thor version, but it looks like it is doing the opposite. There was a silver lining to Love and Thunder after all. Am I being petty? Yes.

Spoilers aside, I keep seeing people post about how sad they are about not seeing Loki/Tom anywhere in the new movie/red carpet stuff, etc.
I just feel pure relief.

Love and Thunder proves that the best/strongest part of the Thor movies is the relationship between Loki and Thor

I’m sorry, but does no one want to discuss that uh....in reference to that scene of Thor being stripped naked, Chris hadn’t even wanted to do it and Taika had to get him to do it or....cause we really should discuss that.

I ready a summary of Thor Love and Thunder (because I literally could not be paid enough to watch it) and I am so angry. I can’t believe what they did to Thor.
and JANE.
AND EVERYONE?
HOW COULD THIS CHARACTER DESTRUCTION HAVE GOTTEN WORSE?

Okey there's someone that compared mcu gorr with mcu Wanda. I don't think that fair. Yes, they both a parent and losing their kids.
But gorr motive it's look more understandable than Wanda in MOM, why? Simple we saw gorr losing his home, peoples, his daughter and basically everyone to rapu (asshole god) his worshipped to rapu became nothing, the worst part is rapu, want to kill him. Then necro sword choose him (thank to rapu to not hide dangerous sword), then gorr became vengeance and want all gods, because he finally see that all gods are selfish(he not wrong but not all gods). Now we not sure if gorr really full control or necro sword just half control him or he still in total control, because when necro sword got destroyed, gorr look almost normal.
And please, darkhold may corrupt the readers but readers still can choose.
Here's fun part, gorr look like not killed other creature beside gods race, he look like only kill adult gods, yes, he kidnapped new Asgard childrens but so far he not kill them, I menat he can just because they have gods blood or he can did it for whatever is that and he not justify his actions.
And there's Wanda killed everyone (not care what race they are) that on her way when she basically can choose not killed them, she even want to killed a a child, and planning kidnapping and don't forget when she send creatures to chasing America, America will spontaneous to jumping to other universes because scared, that meant creatures that Wanda sending, creating chaos and destruction to other universes and make mcu universes being target from other universes (thanks a lot Wanda). And worat part is she trying justify her action in name of mother grief.
So yeah , I think it's not fair for gorr to compared with Wanda. I meant he probably will causing destruction in his own universe of he wish to all gods dead but he didn't do it just because 'they in his way ' , also he didn't 'invited ' problem from other universes.
Sorry but gorr more sad than Wanda, and not I am not justify him, but remember Wanda basically make mcu universe be target from other universes.
What do you think about them?
I think there are a few things to take into account here.
Wanda's power is extraordinary so naturally, if you compare her actions to those of a less powerful character she's always going to stand out, not because her actions are worse, but because she's one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. It's like comparing a human losing control with Wanda doing the same: the human could assault an innocent on a street or kill someone... Wanda can literally rewrite reality and she says in her series that even after so many years she still doesn't understand her power.
Then, in MoM Wanda is entirely out of character. The writing was so bad that I find it hard to meta her motivations because they don't make sense when contextualized with her previous characterization, especially right after WandaVision. And we have Raimi and Waldron who confirmed they never saw the series... so trying to make sense of her behaviour is difficult for me.
I'm not sure the readers of the Darkhold truly have any control or free will though. We have two Stephen variants who renounced its power and control, so I suppose we can say that given the right person the power of the book is somewhat diminished, but we never see this with Wanda: We never see her fighting it, we never see her trying to break free and in the third act she doesn't renounce the book, she just snaps out of it when she sees her kids.
Regarding Gorr (the god butcher who only killed one god in the entire movie), his character could have been pretty good and I get why he was mad at Rapu but his so-called vengeance against all gods wasn't handled well imo. We never learn anything about him or his people, he has no time to shine other than a few scenes where Bale looks a bit menacing, he has no backstory... there's nothing there.
So to be honest I don't know who's worse, I just know both Gorr and Wanda were written horribly, their characterization was entirely superficial and their arc in the movies is entirely pointless. Or rather, they have no arc at all.

*Thor: Love and Thunder SPOILERS*
Here's part 2 of my thoughts on this movie.
Stormbreaker is sentient in this movie like Mjolnir.....SINCE WHEN?!?! The weapon never showed signs of being sentient in Infinity War nor in Endgame, so why now in Love and Thunder is it sentient here?! I'll tell you why. It was for an unnecessary plot point of having the ax be jealous of the hammer cause Thor wanted to call Mjolnir and Thor has to talk to Stormbreaker to reassure it that the ax isn't getting replaced.....that's why! 🤦‍♀️
Jane being Mighty Thor was actually cool to see. I'm surprised that she can fight in that form cause I didn't think she had experience in combat. Must've been something granted by the hammer.
Speaking of the hammer, apparently Thor put an enchantment on Mjolnir to protect Jane when she needs it...oh okay! Apparently, Thor can do that. Maybe he wasn't aware he can do that, but I don't know.
Oh yeah, how the two broke up. It was a "Dear John" letter....I'm not kidding, Jane wrote a breakup letter to Thor and left. Y'know, I didn't mind learning how the two broke up, but there was a nice deleted scene in Thor: The Dark World with the two and it was more serious and emotional than the scene we got in Love and Thunder. I wish that was where the Thor and Jane broke up cause that came off more amicable than the official breakup.
There's a place called the Shadow Realm which is where Gorr is hiding with the kids he's taken. Now, there is a Shadow Realm in the comics, which contained the Soul Masters and I think Knull and the symbiotes reside there too, but I could be wrong with that. But, in the MCU, it's just a barren planet of infinite darkness. Everything's black and white, no color. Also, every time the Shadow Realm gets mentioned in this movie, I think of Yu-Gi-Oh! 😆
Russel Crowe as Zeus....oof....big oof. I don't know if it's because of the actor or if this is how Zeus is supposed to be portrayed in this movie, but Zeus was just....yeah. Well, they definitely set him off to be a future antagonist. And, he's an @$$hole here, which honestly shouldn't be a surprise cause he's an @$$hole in Greek mythology.....also a grapist (minus the g). His accent....I'm not sure if his accent was supposed to be a Greek accent, but it was something.
Where the hell are the other Greek gods? Where is Hera, Zeus' wife?! Cause I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be okay with her husband having a harem(?) with him during that meeting. Also, are those men and woman gods too or are they mortals? And, why did they let Valkyrie take the lightning bolt?! They just stood there and stared at Valkyrie, and one of the woman got a kiss on the hand. I shouldn't expect much from this movie, but I can't help but ask these questions.
Speaking of the kiss on the hand, that's basically all you get with Valkyrie interacting with another woman. If you're expecting to see more of her bisexuality in this movie, I'm sorry but that's not gonna happen. A kiss on the hand and her talking about her maidens is all you're gonna get. Also, Korg at end gets a husband named Dwayne (get it, cause he's made of rocks....hahaha) so he's gay. I think that's all the LGBTQ+ representation this movie has, or I may have missed some.
And now the elephant in the room, Thor accidentally being stripped by Zeus. Now, I don't mind fanservice, but I'm probably one of the few people that got weirded out from seeing this scene (once Chris Hemsworth's butt was exposed, I immediately looked away). I know there are those that'll love seeing Thor naked, but think about the circumstances that led to that. Thor was forced to be nude in front of a lot of gods and his ex and friends. Sure it was an accident, and later on Thor said that he didn't have a problem with it, but what if he did have a problem with it? What if he wasn't okay with it? It would've been bad if Thor wasn't okay with it if that's the case. I also hope that the actor was okay with filming that scene, btw. Anyway, what if it was Jane or Valkyrie that was forced to be stripped? I know more people would've been vocal if that happened to either female characters. Cause, we live in this double-standard world where it's fine to force male characters in those situations when it's not okay to have that happen to female characters. I personally think no one should be forced in noncon scenarios , whether be male, female, nonbinary, or genderfluid.
Speaking of Jane and Valkyrie, it's really messed up that they thought to wait to help Thor because they wanna ogle at Thor's nude body. Like, I get that Thor's hot, but come on! Again if the genders were swapped, people would be more vocal on why this is messed up.
Korg almost dies....honestly, I would be a bit sad, but I'd move on. It's fine if other people like Korg, I'm just kinda indifferent really.
Zeus didn't die from getting hit by his own lightning bolt. I don't know how he survived that, but he did. Guess it's cause he's a god and him being the God of Lightning wouldn't get killed by his own weapon. Would give a sense of irony though.
When Thor was talking via astral projection or something (courtesy of Axl I think), Valkyrie thought it'd be amusing to tickle his nose with her braid. This was just an unnecessary comedic moment, I think, cause he's trying to talk to the kids and it's a very important task, and Valkyrie's trying to interrupt him cause amusement.
Eternity, in the comics, Eternity was the embodiment of the Seventh Cosmos. Eternity was all that existed along the fabric of time across the entirety of the Multiverse, having been formed to ensure the boundlessness of creation. In Guardians of the Galaxy, it was mentioned that he was one of the four cosmic beings that created the Infinity stones. Here? He's a wishing macguffin. That's his purpose! Come to him? He'll grant you a wish! Well, at least they got his shape right, but that's it. Hell he doesn't even talk.
Speaking of wishes, I'm gonna have to assume that Thanos didn't know about Eternity. Cause if he did, he'd have to get something to summon the bifrost to get to Eternity and have his wish granted to wipe out half the universe. Would've saved a lot of time if he knew. Now, it seems to imply that Thor and Valkyrie heard of Eternity so that got me thinking....why didn't any of them suggest to find Eternity to wish everyone that got dusted away to come back?! Would've saved A LOT of time, time travel wouldn't have been invented, Black Widow and Iron Man wouldn't have died, a massive war wouldn't have broken out, and Captain America wouldn't have gone back to the past! Either those two didn't know, or did know but forgot about it. *sigh*
Anyway, that's it from part 2. Part 3 will be the last part.

i just think it's funny how in thor: ragnarok, loki was treated like a criminal for not having asgard interfere with the affairs of the other realms and only putting on plays instead.
...and yet, in thor: love and thunder, that's exactly what valkyrie is having the people of new asgard do. under her rule, asgardian children aren't even being trained as warriors!
loki's rule is treated as irresponsible, weak, and cowardly. valkyrie's very similar, even more peaceful rule is treated as... certainly nothing negative, that's for sure.

Thanos and the snap are definitely something, that shouldn’t be treated as a joke, ESPECIALLY by the Asgardians.
Like, phase 4 is literally about the aftermath of the snap. Every person, wether or not were they snapped, got hurt because of the snap.
And the Asgardians, their home was destroyed, they were hunted by Hela, and when they finally thought they were safe, they encountered Thanos, and half of them were literally killed, and when Thanos snapped half of them were killed again.

Have you read the news of Hemsworth making passive aggresive comments about how Love&Thunder wasn't what he expected and against his bestie Taika? I can't stop laughing how they tried to ridicule and minimize Tom's work to end up like this.
I did! And I admit, it made me smile for a moment or two. Karma has got to him, and I don’t deny it feels better than seeing people destroying things I love and get away with it. Vindication. But it always changes to sadness, quickly.
For years and years, many of us have analyzed Ragnarok, pointed out how Taika destroyed BOTH Loki and Thor, and how Chris hated Tom getting more fame for his performance. That he was petty, calling in Taika. Taika who we said might ‘secretly’ look down upon the franchise. Perhaps because Taika’s father had this academic approach to movie making, and Taika felt looked down upon himself. Perhaps that’s why he felt like ripping it all down, when he was handed a franchise whose Shakespearen tone and highly educated “second” protagonist. And when Love and Thunder came out and Taika had finally outdone himself so much many people saw how he destroyed the characters, it felt good, too. For a short while.
Because until then we had seen our loved franchise being destroyed AND called mad for considering it destroyed AND being called delusional for our claims on an actor we never met and therefore couldn’t even know. Now, that the second point ceased, we only have to deal with the destruction. But at least we get heard now. At least, our prophecies are confirmed now.
And now this. Now, it gets also confirmed that our readings of Chris were correct, too. And it feels good when people admit you were right.
But all things considered, Its still a poor consolation for our loved franchise getting destroyed. Especially now, that TR’s sickening trend of ridicule influenced the Loki show. 😔
A poor consolation.

The worst thing about Love and Thunder is that they didn't make Jane bald AND they didn't have her wear the big gay ice cream shirt :/
