Anson Mount and Ethan Peck at FAN EXPO Cleveland

Anson Mount and Ethan Peck are visiting another FAN EXPO touring convention, this time in Cleveland, Ohio - March 24 2023.

Their usual schedule includes a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel, autograph signing, plus photo sessions and selfies with fans. The official highlights clip from Day 1 (Friday) has a teeny bit of footage from the panel, and of Ethan waving at the camera when he was doing signings. :)

Pockets... what for? And some uniform chatter.

I’m wound up in RL stuff right now, which is why it takes me so long to write my first review (or rather prologue).

But a random thought just struck me when I browsed through google and found this pic of Pike in his Disco uniform:

What exactly are the pockets for on the uniform pants???

They are also on the gold uniform (although you gotta look closely to see them):

They are only for opitcal reasons, right? Right?

I mean, the pants sit so tight nobody could possibly store anything in the pockets without getting their hands stuck in them (which would make some interesting self-bondage... but let’s not get carried away here).

What’s with Star Trek producers torturing their cast with super tight uniforms? I remember an interview with Colm Meaney in which he said he liked the new DS9 uniform better because the TNG one was so uncomfortably tight.

Not that I mind seeing almost every of Anson’s body details nuanced by the tight unform (especially the gold one... ahem!). But give the cast some relief for god’s sake!

After seeing the cast introduction promo for SNW it seems the producers are a bit more merciful as the new uniforms look more TOS-like and less tight.

Although there seem to be 2 different uniforms with the other one looking close to the Disco ones.

(Yes, I did NOT cut out Rebecca’s/Una’s beautiful names!)

(Can I say how much I love the ear communication device?)

Maybe one is for on board duties and the other for landing parties? On the other hand, Star Trek is known for playing around with uniforms and having multiple designs at the same time. Kirk had his usual command uniform and then also his green more formal one:

And Picard also had two uniforms he used alternatingly, his standard one and then a more casual one:

Also, Disco already changed uniforms 3 times: The blue ones they started with, then briefly the S3 future grey Starfleet standard uniform and now the S4 ones with the TNG color scheme for command, science and engineering clusters.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a changed uniform for every new SNW season.

I strongly vote for keeping the tactical vest though, because... how awesome did Pike look in them?

So SYFY Wire did an interview with the cast and producers in attendance at the Paleyfest panel this past Sunday, among all the news about answering questions of Disco’s place in canon and actors crying about where Season 2′s jaw dropping conclusion takes the show into for Season 3, there was more hype and teasing about where Pike’s story will go this season and let’s just say...

I HAVE ANXIETY

Alex Kurtzman (producer): “We will sync up with canon, and obviously if you know the story of Captain Pike, you know what his fate was. It won’t be exactly what you think this season, but we will be consistent with that story. There will be a dimension shed on that story that you will not have known or have thought of.”

they keep using this term “sync up with canon” and I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY MEAN BY THIS????

are we getting a glimpse of his future? a future vision? are we getting an 8 year time jump?? what does it mean “a dimension shed on that story”??? will we not do a time jump but rather we learn that Section 31 or something else will be the reason for his future fate?

Heather Kadin (producer): “If anything it’s not going to feel like a sendoff, because I think that’s what everyone thinks is going to happen. I think it will just become incredibly clear why he’s not continuing on, cause he has to go do TOS, so we have to make sense of that.”

ok but how are you guys making sense of that? what’s with all the teasing and hype if it’s gonna be incredibly clear why he’s not continuing on because he has to do TOS and go back to Enterprise??? what about the 8 year time gap before TOS???

i mean, what exactly is happening here??? is he gonna turn into a Pikachu and go frolic in a field of daisies????

Anthony Rapp (Stamets): “Pike has been an iconic character for the longtime fans of the show for so long, and I feel like people have sort of imagined what kind of captain he would be like, because you got such a small glimpse of it. I feel like he’s, for so many people, satisfied their hopes for what kind of captain he would be. For me, he’s a really nice blend of Kirk and Picard. He has Picard’s sense of letting people be themselves, but he’s a little bit more laid back, and not a cowboy like Kirk, but he’s a little bit more willing to break some rules sometimes. I just think Anson brings incredible presence with that.”

this cast loves each other and i adore them!

Ethan Peck (Spock): “Captain Pike was so unexplored in a lot of ways, you know, he was only in 'The Cage' and 'The Menagerie,' and Anson’s really brought it to life, like he’s never been before. And I think he’s done such an amazing job, I just admire the heck out of him as an actor and as a captain. There’s some things upcoming that I think will prove to be very exciting for fans of Captain Pike.”

WHAT THINGS UPCOMING ETHAN? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? IS HE GOING TO TURN INTO A PIKE-A-CHU?

Wilson Cruz (Culber): “I think what Anson brings to it is a little wink and a nod and a sexiness and assuredness and confidence that you want in your leaders. I know that I’d like to have my leader at the moment show such confidence. There’s a confidence in which he doesn’t feel like he has to boast, he lives in the confidence of who he is and his abilities. You don’t question him; it never occurs to you that he’s going to lead you astray, and that’s the comfort of Captain Pike. And I think he’s filled that out really beautifully for the canon.”

LOL Wilson throwing out a shade with that “my leader at the moment” comment about today’s political climate

Doug Jones (Saru): “To get more of a backstory on him now has been delicious. And who could have played him better than Anson Mount? I think he is doing such a beautiful job; he’s like the perfect captain. He’s strong, authoritative, but he’s also very warm and nurturing to his crew. We knew going in that we only had him temporarily, because we borrowed him from the Enterprise, right? He and Spock have to go back, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One, we can’t hold them all forever or the original series can’t play as it was filmed. But with him inevitably leaving, what does that do to the captain’s chair?”

ok so, he has to go back to Enterprise, sure that’s expected, but all this hype and tease, is it as simple as that? i mean, if it is just he has to leave because that’s what canon dictated, what’s with all this teasing? is this just the usual tactic of hyping up storylines and really the answer is just the simple answer all along???? or is there something more???

Do you know of anywhere were I could watch or get a full transcript of the Fedcon interview panel with Anson, Wilson and Shazad? They look like they're having such a good time!

Hi! I haven’t seen transcripts or full videos of the Disco cast Fedcon panels floating around yet, just snippets of fan footage here and there, and reactions on twitter. Quite a few are linked in con appearance roundup posts, gif sets and reblogs in my “Fedcon” tag. In my own posts I try to link to as many clips as I can without making the posts too long. :)

Anson, Ethan, Shazad and Wilson crashed each other’s panels and several solo panels became joint ones. Let’s hope some fan uploads them in full! I would also keep an eye on Fedcon’s own Youtube channel; they post full panel videos that are about an hour long, however it usually takes them a while to upload everything. Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes’ and other actors’ FedCon panels from May 2018 were only posted in April this year. We might also get clips of the cast interviews! I’ve already seen some of the other celebs.

I don’t wanna leave you completely empty-handed though, so here are a few extra cute moments I’ve found in FedCon fan fotoage, with links going to the specific timestamps:

- Anson grinning as he walks past the dancing Mistress of Ceremonies Lori Dungey (at 1:29). She is a Lord of the Rings actress, has attended RingCon frequently in the past, and now has MC duties at FedCon. :) Anson gave her a flower at the Closing Ceremony.

- A few cute bits of Shazad and Ethan (7:17) at the panels. 28:37 shows Fedcon’s legendary parties and the fan filming the footage says he was standing right next to Anson, Ethan and Shazad but his camera battery died, so he couldn’t get a clip of them. *o* So close!

- Wilson’s incredible dance movies at 3:34 and again at 4:11, I’ve giffed some of it but it has to be seen in full because Wilson is ♥. He also danced at his panel, and at the closing ceremony (1:27), and Ethan joined in with a few moves (1:42). This clip also includes Anson and Shazad. More Wilson dancing here and here.

- Wilson mouthing animatedly (34:37) while his German Discovery voice actor Benjamin Stöwe does the dubbing for him. Hilarious!

- A bit of Anson and Ethan’s panel at 34:38, and a short moment of Anson, Ethan and Shazad standing on stage at 0:25.

- Wilson’s story about being cast on Discovery

- Opening Ceremony: Shazad and Ethan saying “Ich liebe euch” (”I love you”) and “Lebe lang und in Frieden” (”Live long and prosper”) to the audience, much to their delight. I’ve giffed this but footage continues with Anson arriving on stage and sharing his “Germany is a pre-warp society” story which we didn’t have in this camera angle before.

- Bonus: A great Stamets cosplayer (20:19) won 3rd place at the costume contest! (51:13) And there was a really cool Mirror Universe Tilly cosplayer, too! (16:09)

Also, here’s Anson’s upcoming con schedule from my blog, he will be in Australia in three days, and he’s recently been announced for DragonCon with Ethan!

Any new panel clips available will be posted/giffed/reblogged asap, with links to the sources. Just keep in mind, posts with twitter links in the caption (text area of a post) don’t show up in the tags on tumblr mobile due to tumblr’s rules, only in the desktop version of the tags. For the post to become visible on both mobile and desktop, I put the links in the ‘Source:’ bar below the post instead, but the ‘Source:’ bar only has room for one link, so I can’t always use it if I need to credit more than one twitter user for a pic, video, tweet, etc.

In such cases bloggers have to use the caption and the post gets hidden from mobile users, unless they see it on their dash via a reblog or going directly to the poster’s blog. If you’re only using mobile to browse/track the tags on tumblr, you might be missing on some Discovery content because not everything shows up due to tumblr’s automatic blocking. It’s their way to combat fishy/adult links that have infested the site. Mobile users see less content than desktop users, basically, and only a handful of sites are whitelisted, like Youtube and Instagram, which are ok to link to in caption for now. Twitter no longer is. Just a heads up! Some folks have been wondering why their posts weren’t showing up. It’s not your fault, it’s just tumblr being poopy.
