My icon i wrote of the Magdalene was blessed at Mass this morning, in the orthodox fashion (or as close as one can get in the Western rite) - the vicar slipped it under the corporal, and the elements were consecrated upon it.
Deo gratias!

Macmillan’s Anglocatholicism My interest in Macmillan is fuelled by having a similar shade of Christian conviction. He held to an Anglo Catholicism true to the understanding of the Church of England as ‘the ancient church of this land, catholic and reformed’. Tempted in his youth towards Roman Catholicism he resisted, probably steered back by his mother’s Protestant heritage.  A robust spiritual life was kindled through his friendship with one time tutor, Ronnie later Monsignor Knox (picture). He kept his Lenten fast and held to Sunday obligation sometimes attending twice. In his retirement he enjoyed theological conversations with the priest at Horsted Keynes. I am very much against the practice of many priests saying 'simultaneous Masses' privately in close proximity to one another. I find that it is a peverse misunderstanding of the function and meaning of the Mass.
Firstly, how did this practice even start? It's as if someone thought 'well if one Mass is holy, then ten Masses all at once must be like, mega-holy!' The Mass is not meant to provide some quantifiable amount of grace that could be multiplied by way of human meddling; it is a mystery, not something that should be exploited for gain.
Furthermore, it is most unfitting for Mass to be said privately, for the Mass must be a communal act. Did Christ have twelve last suppers, one for each disciple? Not so - neither should many Masses be said in this atomising, individualistick manner, when one Mass could be said communally.
What wrong could arise from a communal Mass? Not only is the grace and holiness of one Mass no less than that of ten or twenty or a thousand Masses, God's grace being unquantifiable, but it is undoubtably more appropriate. When the celebrant says 'The Lord be with you', who is 'you'? Does the priest address all individually, and await as many answers as there are people in attendance? Clearly not, for the Latin is 'Dominus vobiscum', not 'Dominus tecum'; the priest addresses all, and the whole Church responds, as many as are present, and they all respond to the same one call.
And it baffles me to think that the Mass should be twisted into a private act of devotion, when the Church is rich with other ways of going about this. Private prayers already exist; mattins, evensong, compline, the Rosary, eucharistick adoration, lectio divina - this is only a sample of the ways in which private devotion may be expressed.
This is not to say that daily Masses when few or none but the priest actually shew up are wrong, as in those cases, anyone could shew up, and they would not be denied the sacrament. But when many priests gather in one place, but offer prayers of their own accord, and not jointly, something is not right.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father, but is of the world. #verse #verseoftheday #bible #bibleverse #bibleverseoftheday #holycatholicanglican #anglocatholic #anglocatholicism https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck0hmkIrNXI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#holyinnocents Feast Day of the Holy Innocents who died in the Infant Jesus' stead: Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, 18 "In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."(Matthew 2:18) Children are precious in the eyes of the Lord and how true their lives and innocence need to be protected moreso in our days: The Lord said: "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."(Matthew 18:6) God bless all parents who care for their children, their total growth and upbringing and may touch the hearts of all who must recognize the precious gift of children to our humanity! "The birth of every newborn child reminds us of the fact that God is not yet tired of humanity" Rabindranath Tagore - Poet and Nobel Laureate of India. Painting by Valerio Castello, Massacre of the Innocents 1650 circa O ALMIGHTY God, who out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength, and madest infants to glorify thee by their deaths; Mortify and kill all vices in us, and so strengthen us by thy grace, that by the innocency of our lives, and constancy of our faith even unto death, we may glorify thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. And in the same area there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And then an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were very afraid. But the angel said to them, “Listen! Do not fear. For I bring you good news of great joy, which will be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. #verse #verseoftheday #bible #bibleverse #bibleverseoftheday #holycatholicanglican #anglocatholic #anglocatholicism #anglican (at St. James Anglican Cathedral Liberty MO) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmenxchrALY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
