obviously if you’re busy leave this alone but: your tag essay has made me VERY intrigued about Dess and Azzy’s relationship in this AU. Tell me about it?

okay IM HERE TO TALK LOL i will NEVER not talk about this au <3 uhhh under a cut bc. really i should just expect these get super long.

big important note up top: all of this is in! early stages! things are not fully formed and researched yet so please keep that in mind as you read this. ideas might change and will get deeper as i do more work for this au, but since rn im focusing on owl house most of these are my ideas i've had without time to do deeper dives into them.

okay so with asriel i've always sort of written him as this guy who like...has an idea of what is 'normal' in his head, ie, what society wants from people, and what it doesnt want, and he has tried his hardest his entire life to always fit into this box. (think about i know im not well--this is why he's always seen kris as a human. being nonhuman is abnormal and gets you punished in society. to an extent this is also how he views dess being aromantic.)

i think a lot of this comes from fear--asriel IS for sure contorting himself and actively harming himself to stay inside this narrow box of 'normal' (think of this as another sort of prophecy--these are all touching on the same themes). and he applies this same mentality to other people BECAUSE of this fear, because he doesnt want his loved ones to be hurt, to be punished, ostracized, etc by society--which are i wanna be clear VERY MUCH THINGS THAT HAPPEN--but in doing this he sort of just hurts the people he loves. because instead of being someone who rejects these boxes hes like. no we gotta be good and fit into the boxes and then everything will be okay.

so when it comes to dess, dess has always very much Done Her Own Thing, consequences be damned. partly this is who she is, partly this is hashtag undiagnosed and untreated mental illness, the onset of which happens around when shes 18 and everything is going down with the bunker (which is NOT helping at ALL). and so when dess comes back from the bunker asriel does very much go 'oh. shes delusional.' and proceed to be No Help At All.

and like, the thing is dess IS very much having a psychotic break. this bit is very much still in deep research (sidenote: anybody in my audience who has experience w/ these things. feel free to hit me up/dm me lol i'd love to talk through some of my ideas as a sort of preliminary sensitivity read, but of course only do this if you are up to it, no pressure lol bc again we're in early stages) but she has schizoaffective + bipolar disorder. dark worlds dont help with this, asriel SUPER doesnt help with this (he doesnt know her actual disorder--neither of them do, this is the onset of things. but tbf even if he did he Would Not Help asriel is essentially doing everything wrong here.) and what dess needs is literally one single person in her corner but the person who is supposed to be in her corner (azzy) is basically being like 'you are making this up' and shes like im NOT, and everything is all mixed together, terrible, bad, awful, and eventually everything culminates and. we know what happens.

(side note but this is why she and chara work real well together actually--chara gets her when asriel doesnt!!)

asriel never actually like. tells anybody about this though. in his head after its assumed dess and kris have died he sort of just. is like well this proves it. i cant let anybody else i care about go that far EVER AGAIN, because if i was a better friend i would've noticed and i wouldve stopped it and made dess "normal." (yes asriel sucks here. the focus is on the kids but. he's getting an arc. i do promise he will get better but. that doesnt really fix what he's done in the past.)

and all of this is like. it fucking sucks for the people around asriel. in hurting himself he's hurting his loved ones--it pushes dess away, and that relationship is never going to be the same. even when asriel realizes how he fucked up i dont think dess really forgives him. because if asriel had just believed her, or at least even if he didnt actually took her seriously and tried to help, shes like. things wouldve gone differently. and asriel knows this too.

and then when it comes to NOELLE, well. asriel's always been very overprotective of her. terrified the world is going to hurt her. and so when noelle starts experiencing things, things she cant tell if theyre real or not...

she doesnt tell him. she doesnt tell anybody. she keeps it all to herself, and this means its a hell of a lot easier for the player/red soul to manipulate her. and nobody finds out until its too late.

Hi Knight Papyrus is such a cool idea and I would love to hear more about it!! Were there any theories/game evidence that led you to coming up with the idea, or was it just entirely an AU/for fun thing?

Oh yes yes!! This got. WAY too long so it's under the read more (I don't go in depth for the sake of time sorry qwq I can make a separate post later going into more detail about in game stuff qwq).

In all honesty the Knight Papyrus concept came to me right before Chapter 2 came out I was daydreaming in class about Papyrus being in the dark world (Cause I really thought he would be in Chapter 2 rip). I did a little sketch of his design and it turned out looking pretty knight-esque so I kept it for the Knight Papyrus concept ha ha. (The idea behind it was it would be his Battle Body if it was like. Actually real and not just a costume Sans made cause I like to think if characters from Undertale were to end up in the dark world their magic and outfits would be similar qwq). Eventually I started playing around with the idea of whatever is happening with Jevil and Spamton happening to Papyrus which eventually just evolved into him being the Knight for funsies [Note that the Jevil and Spamton concept isn't accurate to my current thoughts about it lol in fact he probably doesn't even really know who those two are since Spamton doesn't seem to know who the Knight is.]

HOWEVER. I am actually a really big Knight Papyrus enjoyer/truther nowadays based on like. Actual in game stuff dshjgkfdh (I won't be upset if he isn't though I just think there's a lot of interesting evidence that ties him to being the Knight but we are literally on chapter 2 of 7 we are barely scratching the surface of this story and I think it might be a little silly to expect that we'd be able to guess something like that this early on ^^)

I don't want to go too into it here cause this is something that I would literally make an entire slideshow about to get my point across lmfao, but Papyrus is a character who is definitely shrouded in mystery in Deltarune. Supposedly just seeing him would be too much of a spoiler and Toby Fox seems to be bringing a LOT of attention to his absence. Papyrus incidentally is the only character in Undertale who doesn't really get a resolution I guess?? Since I tend to subscribe to the idea that the Sans and Papyrus we see in Deltarune are the same guys (Again based on in game evidence I don't want to get into here just cause this is already long enough lol sorry). I think it would neat to explore those loose ends a bit more. I just think there's a lot to be explored with him and he's always been my favorite character because of it qwq.

Just stuff like Papyrus' room is like the one place in a post pacifist run where Reunited doesn't play for example???? One of the more obvious instances of him just straight up lying about things is the call where he acts like he doesn't know what a Lab is when Sans is around and literally in the next room he states taht Sans would love a lab since he's into that kind of stuff??? I know I reference it a lot it's just the one that comes to mind i need to freshen up on my Papyrus phone calls dshgjkndfh. Dude why are you so weird why do you lie about random things all the time dshgjnkfdh.

Anyways all that to say it started out as a silly idea and then I realized there was actually some substance to it lmfao sorry this got so long I tend to ramble a LOT about unrelated things when it comes to these games

Please can you elaborate the thing of how Jevil and Spamton are made to be essentially au sans to appeal to the fandom by Gaster?

Of course, Anon! Sorry this took me a few days to answer, it has been A Weekend.

[this is the post anon is asking me to elaborate on]

Firstly, as far as Gaster generally trying to appeal to the fandom is concerned, I think the first half of this post by @determinators pretty succinctly sums up all the evidence that Gaster has been reaching out to UnderTale fans (those who completed the True Pacifist ending specifically) to be his "partners"/"subjects" in this "experiment".

And if he's trying to draw such targets to his creation, to make them happy and keep them playing... doesn't it make sense that he'd try to force the inclusion of at least one character who is similar to UT's most popular character?

Which isn't to say that Jevil and Spamton are AU Sans-es in the sense that they started out as versions of Sans that became so divorced from him that they became different characters. Rather, Gaster took two pre-existing Darkners and tried to make them as much like UT!Sans as he could, to the point of breaking them with knowledge they couldn't stand.

(putting the actual comparison of these three characters under a read more for your dash's sake)

Now, why is Sans UT's most popular character? What are the major traits that seem to draw people to him? I propose the following:

He's a friendly, funny little man... who will also scare the shit out of you, sometimes for no good reason.

He's surprisingly powerful in a specific context and the hardest boss in the game.

He has meta knowledge to a larger extent than most of the cast, or at least makes his knowledge more explicit.

And the combination of that meta-knowledge and his unknown connection to UT's long gone Gaster give him a mysterious, angsty layer to his backstory.

Plus, he's associated with one of the best songs in the OST (even if it isn't really his theme)

There are other likely factors, like him being relatively easy to draw and his potential relatability to similarly meme-loving low-key depressed fans, but I'm gonna focus on the ones in the list, for reasons that are about to become clear. Let's start the comparisons.

First up, Jevil.

Funny little man? Check. Maybe not friendly, but certainly jovial. And he's scary, though not exactly in the Sans way.

He's the hardest boss of Chapter 1, arguably even harder than Spamton.

Whether the "strange man" (Gaster) straight-up told Jevil the world of DeltaRune is a game, or Jevil just interpreted what he said in the only context he could comprehend (he is a playing card, after all), he's clearly more aware of the greater truth of this world, whatever that may be, than almost everyone else. He even predicts Chapter 2 in his defeat-via-fighting dialogue.

* SOON, THE "QUEEN" RETURNS, AND HELL'S ROAR BUBBLES FROM THE DEPTHS.

The angsty backstory factor is the point where Jevil differs the most and least from Sans. They're similar in that their reaction to the weight of the meta knowledge they held (resets for Sans, the truth of the world for Jevil) was apathy. But where Sans's apathy made him passive, Jevil's gave him permission to do whatever he wants, no matter how it affects others. As a consequence, Jevil has a lower angst factor. Yes, he was sealed away by his friend, but Seam seems to bear the emotional weight of that more than he does.

The World Revolving? A banger.

There's also the bonus point that, like Sans, you beat Jevil by tiring him out. Oh, and they both wear slippers, for whatever that's worth.

Then, there's Spamton. Good old Spamton G. Spamton.

Funny little man? Check. He certainly tries to be friendly. Success rate on that? Debatable. And he's got the creepy factor; still not quite the same as Sans's, but closer.

He's the second hardest boss in the game, first place obviously going to... the teacups. In fact, he shares an extra point of similarity with Sans by being the final boss of Chapter's 2 "evil route".

While Spamton's knowledge may not technically be "meta" in the same sense as Sans's, he clearly shares Jevil's level of knowledge about the true nature of DeltaRune's world.

And while he's the opposite of apathetic in the face of this knowledge - at least once Kris comes along and gives him hope - he's got angst in spades (heh). Toby even lined up some NPCs to give us his backstory, New Home style. But there's also a bunch of gaps in our knowledge (like, who's Mike?) that are ripe for theorizing.

Both of Spamton's battle themes? Bangers.

And I've got some bonus points for y'all too.

They're both lying shopkeepers - Spamton with everything but the KeyGen, Sans with the fried snow you can't actually buy and the hot dogs that are actually water sausages

They both use cyan attacks/projectiles - Spamton Neo's heads, even if they don't function the same way cyan magic does in UT, and Sans's bones

They both have a "yellow eye" - Spamton's glasses are pink and yellow, and Sans's eye during the no mercy fight flashes cyan and yellow. ...Actually, I'm pretty sure Jevil has yellow pupils too, so mark that down as a similarity for all three of them.

Obviously, Spamton also has some strong connections to Mettaton, and at this point I'm expecting that the future secret bosses will also be equally direct UT callbacks in one way or another. But the idea of taking Sans and giving him traits of other UT characters is something the fandom itself has engaged in, to varying levels of problematic-ness, so it seems like the next logical step for Gaster to take too on his quest to create the Ultimate Fan Favorite Character.

Before I close out here, let me address your other ask:

I've definitely seen that theory around, specifically with Jevil and Spamton having been intended to be tutorial characters only to be discarded because Gaster decided it would be better for his OC to be closer to Asriel than Flowey.

I think it has merit. The healing via ACTs point in particular - that's one trait I can't see any crossover with Sans with.

But tutorial-izing game mechanics post the player already experiencing them, like Jevil does ("WHEN YOUR HP DROPS TO 0, YOU LOSE!")? Sans does that too, with about as much effectiveness.

And let's not forget one of his most famous scenes: the judgement in the Last Corridor, where he gives the full explanation of EXP and LV.

I'm more than willing to believe that Ralsei wasn't the original third party member, the Darkner representative among the heroes (assuming he didn't lie about that too), and that he's partly the way he is because he's meant to be UT!Asriel II, to mirror what Gaster assumes we liked about the goat boy.

But if we're looking at who Jevil and Spamton have more in common with, especially with the roles they actually end up playing in-game, I think tying the two of them back to Sans makes a lot more sense.

Now, some of you might be expecting me to end this post with a prediction that Sans, who many have speculated to be a Darkner himself, will be the final secret boss. And to that I say: no. He's had his moment. Let him be Just Some Guy. Please.

(If you want my actual (but still mostly joking) final secret boss prediction:

What if, when Asriel comes home in Chapter 7 (assuming the game doesn't just end there, which I frankly wouldn't put past Toby), he says he was having a really hard time in college, but he was able to get through it thanks to a friend. A friend who reassured him that the difficulties he was facing weren't really that big a deal. After all, they aren't even real. How freeing it was to hear, Asriel says. And he's been waiting to share this epiphany with Kris. He knows they need it. Perhaps more than anyone. Cue boss fight, with Kris fighting alongside Asriel's new college friends who came to visit his family and did not sign up for this: Chara and Frisk :)

...yeah, that won't happen. and it probably shouldn't.)

Anyway. In summary, Gaster has been trying to make the Next Great Tumblr Sexyman based on how the fandom reacted to Sans. And considering how Spamton has passed that test with flying colors, I can only wonder what the rest of the Meta Aware Manlet Brigade will be like.

Made It To The Cyber-Dark World (But Now I’m Taking A Break)

I had decided to go to my save file from Chapter 1 (which strangely and pretty neat, ended up in the New Deltarune Chapter 1&2....)

then I played where I had last left off, facing King and lucky I got the good ending this time, I think it has to do with not attacking but showing mercy instead.

anyway I didn’t give the flowers away or get Kris to drink that chocolate milk.

I thought they would carry into Chapter 2, but I guess not.

I did find out something interesting, something I didn’t see in the walkthrough I watched...

and that is that Noelle gives Susie a box of chalk, it happens when Suise and Kris are about to go to the Dark World and Noelle shows up.

also it turns out, the Cake isn’t a lie after all.

Ralsei was telling the truth, and the cake comes out of his Witch’s Cauldron

that is inside his home, you just have to click on it to get the cake.

I know it might sound like a joke, but it really does happen to have cake.

but I guess a lot of people might of found out before me so maybe I’m not the only one who found out about the cake.

who knows how many fans believed that the cake would of been a lie....

like the cake from Portal.

even if the cake wasn’t a lie, I wonder if Ralsei seems to be acting.....strange?

like I guess I didn’t really notice before while watching the walkthrough.

it was a surprise that Susie was given a box of chalk from Noelle.....

but like I was saying, after I got through the “Cyber-Dark World”

I decided to save and take a break, I can play more of it later.

I wonder why Ralsei’s feet seems a bit different....?

I can’t be the only one who notice something seems off with his feet, right?

well maybe it’s fine....unless he is a Lightner in disguised

and the Real Ralsei is locked up as a, what would be word for

yeah, the Real Ralsei is a Prince-In-Distress who is the Other-Ralsei’s prisoner, and he is keeping the Real-Ralsei in a place no one will ever think of looking....

you know it be nice if Magic Spells could do what you want them to in Real Life.....one of things I can do is make the pendulum move with my thoughts.

or if I ask it Yes Or No Questions, it will go clockwise for Yes, and keep doing so even if I think or say with my voice, Circle slow.

the same would happen if it’s a No.

sometimes it plays pranks on me, it is still pulling that prank about the Asari, Salarian, Turian, Krogan and Quarian being Real In Real Life.

it hasn’t given a No about them Not being real yet.....it is strange it keeps pulling the same prank, giving me a Yes when I ask if they are Real.

also I think it is possible for both Humans and Monsters in both Undertale and Deltarune, to be made out of Magic, but the magic ends up being a little different for each of the Magical Genetic Makeup.

I think I will wait a few hours to play more of Chapter 2 of Deltarune.

I hope that Deltarune gets a lot of AUs, it does have AUs so far but I hope there will be a lot of them.

and I’m not joking about my pendulum still pulling that prank on me,

I had just asked a few minutes ago and it still gave a Yes about those races from Mass Effect being Real in Real Life.....

that prank just keeping going, so unless we meet a real life Asari or Quarian,

I’m gonna still think my pendulum is pulling a prank.

What’s the difference between AT and AU?

Alternate Timelines (AT) Prompts include small changes and prompts aligning with canon. For example “Papyrus wears a hat” or “Frisk goes to school post-pacifist”. They also include Deltarune theories, as the game is still in development.

Alternate Universes (AU) Prompts are a little broader. They can range from entire universe changes (Swap, Outer, etc.), to timeline changes that effect the story and world (Fell, Horror, etc.) These also include Outcodes, OCs, and character-focused AUs.

I reserve the right to not post submissions if I deem them inappropriate or unrelated. As stated above, keep posts PG 13, if your submission contains adult content, I will not post it.

I may also refrain from posting your submission if it is too confusing. I will, however, reach out to you for clarification of your prompt so that I can post it.

What do you mean by “Adult Content”?

Adult content refers to any NSFW sexual acts, pedophilia, incest, bestiality, and other illegal and immoral things. This also includes excessive use of drugs and alcohol by minor characters.

This includes prompts involving fr.ans, pa/para, fon/tcest, and such. Please refrain from those prompts on this blog.

Did you edit my prompt submission?

The only thing I change about submissions is fixing grammar and spelling. Occasionally I will add or remove content from a submission to help it make more sense and be more prompt-like.

I will stay true to your original submission and never change the original intention (or what I assume is the original intention).

I want to see more prompts related to X character or about X, but don’t have any ideas.

Send an ask about the type of prompt you want and I (or anyone) can make something up for you.

Long answer: Once you submit something here it basically becomes public domain. I cannot control what happens to the AUs and do not take responsibility for anything that happens to them.

And being public domain that means that you can do anything you want with the AUs submitted here. Afterall, this is a prompt blog.

Can I write / draw something based off of these prompts?

Yes!! I highly encourage that you do!

I read through and queue them at the end of the day (unless I’m busy). At most I can queue 50 a day, but it’s unlikely that will happen (maybe?).

Buckle up here are my thoughts on Deltarune

I’ve been seeing a lot of ppl here and videos on YouTube talking abt theories and stuff so I thought I’d make my own megapost to surmise my thoughts and my own theory on wtf is going on in this game Part of this was @brigadeinvader and me talking over discord and discussing the game, I don’t think either of us would’ve come up with this on our own

Timeline Placement & Stuff

As Toby stated, Deltarune is neither a sequel nor a prequel because it’s not the same world as Undertale, and this is important. You can call it an AU if you want, it’s not far from what I believe it is. However, somethig doesn’t have to be a prequel or sequel to happen before or after something else. Lemme explain.

I personaly stand for the idea that Deltarune is an alternative wolrd to Undertale, hence why the same characters are there, only different. It being an alternative world means it’s still somehow connected to Undertale. If you know anything about the multiple worlds hypothesis, then you should know Undertale and Deltarune’s timelines would run parallel to each other without interfering (they might’ve been one and the same at some point, but not anymore. And timelines cannot merge back). This still means the events of one can take place after or before the other, just in different worlds.

Not necessarily in that order, but like so. We have two dates to go by, and those are the begining narration of Undertale and Ralsei’s cut manual for Deltarune. Undertale’s is 201X, while Deltarune’s is 202X. This would normally mean Deltarune goes around a decade after. However, the date at the beginning of Undertale is not the date the events of the game take place on, but the date the Fallen Human (I’ll refer to them as Chara) ends up in the underground. The game asks us to name the human from the beginning narration, which isn’t Frisk, so we don’t know exactly how much time passed between Chara’s arrival and Frisk’s. It has to be a lot of time, though, seeing as six other humans fell down in that time and most of the monsters underground don’t remember/flat out haven’t seen the surface or the humans by the time Frisk arrives. And if we take Asriel’s transformation at face value, then enough time has passed for a Dreemurr to age from a kid to a... young man, I guess. Which is certainly more than a decade.

Arsiel being in university in Deltarune doesn’t put it after Undertale, because I’m pretty sure Asriel would also be around that age, if not older, by the time Frisk comes around if he hadn’t died.

If you don’t want to take Toby’s declaration too seriously, since he doesn’t outright say anything but Deltarune being a different world from Undertale with different characters that lived different lives; then Chapter 1 still has some evidence that points towards this. None of the characters you meet that were also in Undertale are exactly the same. Not even their sprites. Everyone has at least something different in their designs when compared to the ones seein at the ending credits of the Pacifist run in Undertale. Asgore doesn’t have a crown, Undyne doesn’t wear an eyepatch, Alphys doesn’t have her labcoat and was probably never a scientist, Mettaton never became a star, Toriel has a darker shirt underneath her purple sweater (check it, I’m serious), Bratty and Catty hate each other, and so on. Sadly we don’t get to see Papyrus, The only one who’s exactly the same is Sans.

Sans

There’s a post by @napstamuse (idk about putting links bc of tumblr’s recent algorithm, sorry) comparing all the main sprites of the characters in both Undertale and Deltarune, and Sans’ jacket is has the same color, even down to the hex value of the blue. Not only that, but his personality remains untouched. He still has some sort of attraction (I don’t mean romantic necessarily) to Toriel, still fond of puns, etc. He’s the only one of those we see that’s exactly the same in Deltarune as in Undertale.

He’s more than probably even the exact same Sans from Undertale. As in, he somehow moved from one timeline to the other, unlike the rest who aren’t the same characters per se. We all know by now Sans wasn’t from Undertale, not really. His Genocide fight convo states “I gave up trying to go back a long time ago.” and “getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either”. This means 1) he’s not from there, from Undertale’s world/timeline and 2) whatever place he’s from isn’t the surface. That’s important. Because a lot of details point towards Sans being originally from Deltarune’s world, then for some reason moving to Undertale’s sometime before Frisk arrives. But when we find him in Deltarune, what does he say?

And when you ask about “Friends”.

Meaning he also came from somewhere else. Considering Deltarune’s town is in, apparently, the surface; then it makes sense why Sans didn’t originate from there, since he didn’t come from the surface. And he knows the surface, as evidenced by him telling Papyrus what the Sun is (though that could also be bc of Alphys’ anime).

But if he doesn’t come from Deltarune’s town, and he also deosn’t come from Undertale’s world; then where does he come from?

I propose Sans is a Darkner. I don’t know if someone has already made this point in a video or post, but hear me out.

Unless Sans is from a different world altogether, then the only place in Deltarune that isn’t the surface (that we know of) is the Dark World. Not only that, but we know thanks to this infamous scene:

... that Darkners bleed. Monsters do not bleed. Susie right there more than probably doesn’t bleed either, and yet Lancer assumes everyone in the Fun Gang does. That can only be because his species, the Darkners, all bleed. You know who else bleeds?

Sans does. And yes, I’m aware there have been ppl saying the red thing coming from him is actually ketchup from a bottle inside his jacket (which, knowing sans, wouldn’t surprise me tbh), but that wouldn’t explain why it comes out of his mouth as well. Hence it must be blood. Monsters from the underground all turn to dust upon defeat, yet Sans is the only one in the game who doesn’t. It doesn’t help the fact that we never see him die on screen and the sound effect that plays when the battle ends isn’t the one of a moster being defeated, but of one being spared. We also never really see Darkners bleed, that’s true, since they all flee from battle and you can’t kill anyone in Chapter 1; but Lancer’s bucket scene tells us that yes, blood is a thing in the Dark World that does come out of bodies when they are beaten.

There’s also another thing that might be minor, but all Darkners get tired after enough time in a battle. It’s the way you defeat the Chaos King and it’s the easiest way to spare enemies in Chapter 1. They all fall asleep. After enough time in a battle, Sans also falls asleep. It’s also the only way to defeat him in Genocide.

So Sans might be a Darkner. Why he left the Dark World (what is the Dark World) and why he then left the world of Deltarune to arrive at Undertale... we don’t know. It could have something to do with Undertale’s Gaster (or maybe Deltarune’s), but again, we don’t know. We’ll have to wait for the rest of Deltarune to come out to have more material to go on, I suppose.

Also the stuff about the “don’t forget” picture with the three smiling people on it. The song at the end credits states “don’t forget, I’m with you in the dark”, and the Fun Gang is comprised of three people. But we have no definitive evidence on that either.
