So, I just got this amazingly lovely Commission from @stephreynaart of my two Gravity Falls OCs, Maggie and Sydney, as sort of an early Christmas gift for myself (and because I saw they were having a sale on their Comm prices)! And my goodness, they absolutely knocked it out of the park. My heart is so full 🥺😭🫶🏼

The idea is based off this section of the long Gravity Falls fic I’ve been writing on-and-off with my best friend, Matilda (again, not her real name, just an alias for privacy) since around 2020, though I think I actually started writing it before beginning to collaborate with her around 2018. So this fic has been in the works for a very long time!! But we’re almost finished with it (we’re very close) and are planning to continue writing it so it gets done eventually!! So that’s very exciting.

Anyway, the scene takes place during the episode Soos and the Real Girl in Season Two, and Maggie has had a crush on Sydney for a very long time, since they first met in The Time Traveler’s Pig back in Season One. And this is when they finally have their first kiss at Hoo-Ha Owl’s Jamboree:

“You have quite the moves, Syd.” I laughed, my face becoming warmer, and my hands rubbing against my thighs as I searched for something to occupy them with.

She bumped my shoulder with a playful smirk occupying her face, “They weren’t as impressive as when you knocked that beaver with a chair! That look of determination on your face was… whoa.” 

I could’ve sworn she turned away after saying that, but I didn’t comprehend why.

My smile soon faded into more of a frown, “I don’t think I could have handled all of those animatronics without you.”

“I mess things up all the time, and I’m not as brave as you are.” I looked at the ball pit below us, groaning. “Soos didn’t get along with Melody because of me. It’s just that you’re so courageous, I don’t know if I’m good enough.”

Sydney sighed and put an arm around me, “Who got the courage to talk to me?”

I looked up at her, pausing for a moment, “I did?”

“Who helped stop a Summerween monster?”

“You and Soos did.”

“Maggie, you still helped! Who got up the courage to stop Gideon from taking over the town with his giant robot?”

I smiled, “I did.”

“Who stood up to Bill Cipher twice?”

I stood up, “I did!”

“I don’t like you because of traits you think matter. I like you because of traits you have that do matter. You’re courageous, you’re smart, and you’ve protected me more than once.” She chuckled softly. “Honestly, I have doubts too, so you’re not alone. But I think it’s safe to say that going to that fair and meeting you was the best decision I ever made.”

I couldn’t help but feel extremely warm, and my heart started beating faster than before. It was no longer a hummingbird, more like an avalanche of rocks tumbling down the side of a mountain, pushing everything else in its path away.

“You were amazing back there just now, you know. And I would’ve been toast if it wasn’t for those Taekwondo moves you showed me that one time. How about you give yourself some credit once in awhile and enjoy things as they come.”

She leaned forward and gave me a huge bear hug. I reciprocated it, enjoying the moment of peace and quiet after the chaos of .GIFfany.

“Like what?” I asked, wanting some clarification.

“Like this.”

Before I could even process what was occurring, Sydney leaned forward. Her face was becoming closer to mine, and my heart became a hummingbird needing desperate release from a cage. I almost leaned back because of instinct, and there was part of me that didn’t want to allow myself to believe that what was occurring was really occurring. 

Then her lips connected with mine.

It was gentle and tentative at first, and for a moment, all I could focus on was how smooth and delicate Sydney’s mouth felt. Despite my fear, I couldn’t help but reciprocate. The kiss was filled with an unspoken promise and understanding that our connection ran deeper than any self-doubt I harbored. And I couldn’t believe she felt the same way about me as I did about her. This entire time we could’ve been doing this.

The kiss deepened and our hands soon found each other. They interlocked like the twine of a basket, finding each other in the midst of this newfound connection. My other hand explored Syndey’s hair, her wonderful, flowing locks that cascaded like a waterfall down her back.

Sydney laughed once we separated, and we both panted, breathless. Our foreheads rested against each other, “We should probably go. I think we should give Soos and Melody some time alone.”

I laughed and followed her down, and Mabel tackled me in the ball pit.

“MAGGIE, YOU HAD YOUR FIRST KISS! It seems Soos and Melody aren’t the only match meant to be.” Mabel grinned.

“It seems like it.” I quickly hugged her and adjusted my glasses, which were starting to slide down my face.

Victor: “Melodies that accompanied us through those years of youth” ... 

Victor: What’s gotten you so nostalgic suddenly? 

MC: Haha, I stumbled upon this through random notifications and found it quite fascinating~ 

MC: So, speaking of which, what kind of stuff would you usually have playing on your earphones back when you were at school? It wouldn’t be all English listening exercises, right? 

Victor: Set your wild thoughts aside, and yes, of course, I would also listen to music sometimes. 

Victor: But there were also times when I would have nothing playing at all. 

MC: You mean like simply leaving them in your ears? 

Victor: Yeah. Seeing you with your earphones on, some of the individuals who are tactful enough won’t come forward to initiate a conversation again. 

Victor: Doing this is convenient to save yourself from a lot of unnecessary hassles. 

MC: Turns out, it can also be used as a shielding device! What a cool way to pull a “switcheroo”! Speaking of which, I’ve had similar experiences too. 

MC: Victor, do you know what other things an electronic dictionary can be handy for besides looking up words? 

Victor: Importing e-books in .txt format. 

MC: Ah, so, you did this too! 

Victor: Nope. I caught people in the act. 

MC: You wouldn’t be... 

Victor: Mm-hmm. I was in charge of inspecting such rule-breaching activities back then. 

MC: ...humph, I have nothing more to discuss with someone who used to be an inspector. 

MC: But out of curiosity, what would happen if I were to be caught red-handed by you? 

Victor: I would most likely rap on your desk, signaling for you to step outside with me. 

Victor: And then, I would confiscate the electronic dictionary and hand you a registration form. 

Victor: [putting on a voice but doesn’t sound strict at all, subconsciously reminding himself she is my girlfriend and I’d get hell later LMAO] “Classmate, write your name here, and remember not to get caught by me again.” 

MC: That strict? What if I plead with the Discipline Inspector for leniency~ 

MC: [you’re supposed to put on a cute voice here haha] “I bought this with the pocket money I saved for a long time! Please, inspector classmate, let me off the hook, pretty please, sob sob sob~” 

Victor: Based solely on your tone over the phone call, I can’t feel much sincerity or remorse. 

Victor: I’ll be home shortly, and I’m looking forward to your in-person demonstration. 

Victor: Then, I’ll carefully mull it over whether to let you off the hook, or not.

【2ND CALL】

Victor: MC, your package just arrived, and it had some damage to the box when it was delivered. So, I went ahead and unpacked it for you. 

Victor: But why did you buy a whole box of steam eye masks and eye patches? 

MC: Well, the seller happened to be running a promotion, and I couldn’t resist the temptation... 

Victor: Mm-hmm, you do get tempted very easily. 

Victor: If not for that, we wouldn’t have a stockpile of “buy three, get one free” laundry detergent at home, nor would we have those Hawaiian-themed bath towels as “freebies for signing up.” 

Victor: Let’s make it clear beforehand, don’t pull me into “using them up” together when the time comes. 

MC: Victor, don’t be so heartless. I’ve put a lot of thought into selecting these items this time. 

MC: You may not be aware, but steam eye masks come in many different scents nowadays. 

Victor: Chamomile, rose, eucalyptus... I can understand how these floral scents might work, but coffee aroma? Are you sure it can help with sleep? 

MC: Oh no, that one’s for keeping you energized! I hadn’t heard of this one before, so I decided to purchase it and give it a try~ 

MC: They claim its effectiveness is on par with the eye exercises we used to do in our student days; it not only provides eye protection but also refreshes and sharpens the mind. 

Victor: In that case, why don’t you consider resuming the eye exercises twice a day from now on? Who knows, it might yield even better results. 

MC: In the world of adults, it’s very challenging to squeeze out time for exercise. 

Victor: I’m not entirely convinced of that. 

Victor: If you utilize all this time you spend shopping impulsively on online sites, it will be sufficient. 

MC: Humph, when I get home tonight, I’m gonna make you join me for an eye mask evaluating session! 

Victor: I’m afraid my eyes won’t be able to handle such a heavy responsibility. 

MC: Well, even though a certain someone says that, in the end, he will still cooperate with me~ 

MC: When the time comes, I will have the aromatherapy and candles prepared, and we’ll start with the eyepatches to kickstart the relaxation process. 

MC: After that, we’ll apply the eye masks for a complete relaxation session. 

Victor: ...couldn’t we perhaps spend this time better participating in some outdoor activities, something that genuinely focuses on eye health and relaxation? 

Victor: Instead of relying on flashy remedies, it’s more effective to go out and do some physical activities. 

MC: Hehe, have you realized that we have already mapped out a perfect weekend itinerary? 

MC: Why don’t we just go to that camping site we’ve been wanting to go fishing for a long time! Hold on, I’ll call to make a reservation shortly. 

Victor: It seems like a certain someone had this all planned out in advance, am I right? 

MC: It’s all thanks to CEO Victor’s guidance that this small idea was implemented in reality so efficiently~ 

Victor: I think I’d prefer to experience your “efficiency” in other aspects. 

Victor: Why don’t you start by making a checklist of the camping essentials we’ll need? 

Victor: And after you’re off work, try to get back home a bit earlier. I’ll have the aromatherapy and candles prepared in advance to create a cozy work-friendly atmosphere for a certain someone.

Are you able to explain without heavy spoilers why Melusine is the best?

hooo boy that’s gonna be hard and pretty long. ill try to be as coherent as possible in explainin why i like her so much

well for starters, melusine is really fucking cool. i assume you are at least aware of her battle animations, but theyre good. her first and second animation has her alternating between punching, slashing, and both to beat up her foes, and the sound effects and graphics really shows how strong she is. special mention goes to one of her extra attack lines going “Haaaaaaaaa, BUNKAHHHH!” her VA put her soul into that line.

this dont even cover her third ascension’s animations. that’s where her dragon part comes out, and i fuckin love dragons. she slashes, she chomps, her extra attack animation is as good as Arjuna Alter’s, if not more. and her NP having her flying through Fae Britain’s twilight sky and fully transforming into her dragon form… good shit.

and her being able to change from first/second asc to third asc w her skill is insane, and the fact her np changed from Arts ST to Buster AoE was a huge game changer. the only other servant who does something like that is Jekyll and Hyde (who sucks gameplay wise. sorry man).

not to mention i love her ascension art. the first asc having her in full armor, and her second having a pretty dress befitting of a lady knight (or maybe even a princess?), and both of them having those big ass sword sheathes on her wrists and mask costumes for them. i love characters with masks covering at least part of their face, and im real glad theyre costumes for her. her third ascension is also cool too, with the big swords and the black wings on her. for me it’s second asc > first asc > third asc

another thing bout her is that melusine… is a huge dork. like i said, her VA did good work at portraying a refined knight who is actually pretty expressive underneath. you see it even more in her summer form but even her tam lin/fairy knight version she was always Like That. her first asc’s line for your birthday is her being despondent over guda being busy and then deciding to destroy Chaldea. melusine said fuck work

and to say nothin bout her… expressions

one of the only minor complaints i hav w her summer form is the lack of scribbles in her expression, but ah well. we have this

as for her story in the lostbelt… i dont really know how to explain how much i love it bc a lot of it is only really shown in parts 2 and 3, but her relationship with Aurora and Percival were handled really well. you have to get to reading the lostbelts to really understand her character and shit like that. her very last scene of her (and aurora i guess) makes me real emotional
