He’s such a sweet boy, gangly, goofy, and completely loveable boy, adored by volunteers because of his wiggly, social ways. He seems to love other dogs, though the poor kid didn’t get to play with the other “kids” in doggy playgroup because of the severe wound on his side, but he sat at the gate, wagging away at the female on the other side. He has a large personality and a smile to match. He seems unfazed by his injury or by the fact he has to wear a large plastic collar. GREEN At Risk Memo: Lennox is at risk due to medical condition. Lennox has a large wound on his side that will need regular cleaning and care to prevent infection. The incident happened a few hours ago and Lenox is licking it a lot. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Lennox has been highly social with his human caretakers in the shelter environment. He has been soft and social throughout all his interactions with staff and volunteers. He may get jumpy at times but he is food motivated and receptive to training. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 24-Sep-2018 Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor's face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Paw squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Paw squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pull back. He displayed a high level of activity and movement during his assessment, becoming mouthy during tag but applying light pressure and jumping up a lot. Summary: Active, social, allowed handling ENERGY LEVEL: Lennox is he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: No young children: Due to the high level of jumping and mouthing seen at the care center, we recommend a home without young children. Older children who are comfortable around large, jumpy dogs should have an in-depth interaction prior to adoption. Potential challenges: Basic manners/poor impulse control, Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition, Low threshold for arousal Potential challenges comments: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Lennox jumps up a lot on people in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Low threshold for arousal: Lennox quickly becomes over aroused in the presence of people, jumping up and mouthing. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Lennox to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. He should be reward with treats when calm. If he escalates to jumping or mouthing, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Lennox. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Lennox has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Lennox's teeth make contact with skin). SURGERY: Okay for surgery 22-Sep-2018 Spay-Neuter Waiver Documentation. AS per Dr. 1516, sedated wound repair. Sedation: 1.0 mls of Butorphanol 10mg/ml; 0.7 mls of Dexdomitor 0.5 mg/ml gave both IM at 12:45 pm. Pulled up 5 mls of 2% Lidocaine to be used as a local block by Dr. 1516. At the top of his list of not-so-secret joys are toys and balls of all kinds, and he'll sit politely (for a moment at least) to wait for my throw, then dash off, gently scoop up his prize and jog back for another round, smiling all the while. At the top of his list of not-so-secret joys are toys and balls of all kinds, and he'll sit politely (for a moment at least) to wait for my throw, then dash off, gently scoop up his prize and jog back for another round, smiling all the while. Crash never grabs or guards and is always happy to share if it means the fun and games will continue, and he's so soft and easy to handle, lightly munching away from my hand as I hold a toy for him or quietly settling across my lap for an extended back massage and chew session. He seems very house trained, but his enthusiasm for exploration and meeting new friends does result in some hard pulling on leash. A long-legged vision in cinnamon and cream, Nino is a coltish cutie who will capture your heart. A gingerbread, borough-bred, thoroughbred. Nino is easily leashed and away we go, the wind in our hair and at our backs. And as he trots happily in front of me we swing out into the sun and get down to fun and games, as both are Nino's specialties. And if you happen to have a ball well get ready to...have a ball. Forward, back, up, down! Nino is a sight to behold, so impressive and light, as he plays with a bright, shining smile. Nino is described by his previous owner as excitable and playful. We're also told he's crate-trained, enjoys baths and being brushed, and loves to play with tennis balls which I can certainly attest to be true. As a young, energetic, and devastatingly handsome boy, Nino might do best with an experienced family who'll give our boy plenty of chances and room to stretch his legs and lots of opportunities for play. A long-legged vision in cinnamon and cream, Nino is a coltish cutie who will capture your heart. A gingerbread, borough-bred, thoroughbred. Nino is easily leashed and away we go, the wind in our hair and at our backs. And as he trots happily in front of me we swing out into the sun and get down to fun and games, as both are Nino's specialties. And if you happen to have a ball well get ready to...have a ball. Forward, back, up, down! Nino is a sight to behold, so impressive and light, as he plays with a bright, shining smile. Nino is described by his previous owner as excitable and playful.
