Tumblr media
✿Welcome to Flowershop Stampede! ✿
Here, we offer the best quality in Floral. selections!
Weddings, Birthdays, Parties, Bouquets?
We cater to any event!
Come and Visit Today!
summary: trigun characters working in a flowershop,, what could go wrong?
characters: vash the stampede, nicolas d. wolfwood, meryl stryfe, milly thompson
warnings: none, meryl running wolfwood over, vash's horrible flower arranging skills, etc :P
category: headcannons
A/N: this was fun to imagine tbh hehehe,,, i'll be writing an extra bonus one shot stemming from these headcannons but first imma write the other things I have planned for right now! I was thinking about writing these up first and scheduling them ahead of time but what's the fun in that :,) i may not be the best writer but thank yall for reading my things,,, also i'm so tired from a recent trip so half-awake-half-asleep editing
Tumblr media
Vash The Stampede
One of the first part-timers at Flowershop Stampede!
A bit of a run-down flowershop, but Vash is very encouraged to flip everything around with work ethic and effort! :)
Roberto literally just watches as the new-hire speaks to the roses in the morning,,,,he just lets him do his thing
and i'm gonna be honest with yall, Boss-man Roberto puts Vash as the main floral consultant
because who can resist that adorable face so kind?
"Do you really want just one batch? The chapel would be soo pretty if you added two more to fluff everything up :)" -insert doe eyes here-
yeah...give me 10.
also he's a bit of a people person sooooooo
literally has a natural green thumb, and the dude is majoring in botany
so theoretically he's the most practiced besides Roberto,,but he doesn't flaunt that around. he really just likes nature and this is encouraged by his adoptive mother Rem.
BUT he doesn't hesitate to kick anyone out if theres' a problem or disturbance or a threat
Will fight a customer with a stern smile on the wrong day.
One time, this rude ass man was yelling right into Milly's face because she dropped a bit of dirt on his shoes until Vash stepped in.
scary ass face bro what the hell,,, after a few tumbles and a broken pot, he kicked his ass out "peacefully".
cried a few tears after though.
"I hope he's alright... The cop gave me his number, what if I just check up on them.."
"Vash you had the right-"
"What if they died???! D:"
"They're not dead Vash.." sweatdrop
His brother Nai often looks down on his choice of profession and study. He thinks Vash should've studied more in International Relations or Humanities at most but botany? Seriously?
But since Vash's childhood was so...troubled. He just wanted to live in peace at this point, to breathe a little. He loves to help others but in his own way!
Doesn't hesitate to help people choose or decide on the right flowers,, he actually gives really good suggestions.
To everyone's surprise and utter disbelief, Vash is not good at making bouquets. At all.
Milly had asked Vash to make one for her when she went to quickly help Meryl unload plants from the truck and the girl came back to a very...bald.. bundle of roses.
"did i do it? :D"
everyone agreed that Vash doesn't really have a good eye at actually making the bouquets,, choosing the flowers yes! actually arranging them hell no.
bonus headcanon:
sometimes, Vash's prosthetic aches due to over-exertion. lifting heavy things around the shop, he forgets to take his breaks more often than he should, especially before the refitting appointment for his arm. so whenever it aches, Wolfwood takes his place and he goes in the back kitchen for a good 30 minute break.
when he gets home, he asks you to give him a shoulder massage and you gladly do.
you also nag at him for not taking his needed breaks to which he sweats a little and gives you a small smile.
he loves you for worrying about him though :,)
"babe plz take me back'
"vash i'm literally just gonna go get the IcyHot-"
"come back :,("
you cant help but give him a little peck on the lips before you go fixing his aches.
Nicolas D. Wolfwood
One of Flowershop Stampede's full-timers,, came in a bit after Vash started, roughly a good 6 months after.
No, he wasn't introduced to the job by anyone, he really just saw the Help Wanted poster in the trash and said "yup, this one right here."
also the man was broke aside for an odd job he doesn't like telling people for many reasons.
Now the man's here. Brown apron, gardening gloves, dirt on his cheeks and sunglasses laying on top of his head.
someone take a pic plz☝️
Alot of people including clients suspect he's a con-man but he just has the charm of a door-to-door salesman with the vibes of a con man.
bIGGG DIFFERENCE not really
a bit of a hard ass but has a good heart,, really good at convincing people to buy flowers.
Roberto doesn't like having him on consultations like Vash though since he goes off topic quite a bit stop rizzing up the fiance wolfwood her marriage is literally next week.
Has a specialty for making bouquets, specifically weddings and big events.
do you have a Quince going on? you want 5 big bouquets? Give Wolfwood a day he'll get them done by midnight tops.
Literally the two main bouquet arrangers in the shop are Wolfwood and Milly so they often call each other partner.
Old ladies absolutely love Wolfwood. He always tries to help them the best he can.
Carrying flower bundles, giving them suggestions on nice small bouquets nicely wrapped, they really love him and his little chest show boy button them up puT UR BADONKERS AWAY-WE ARE SELLING TULIPS
hates morning shifts with a passion, so he takes the night shifts often as Vash does who can't do mornings bc of class on certain days.
Overall, a tad bit aggressive yet charming worker! Takes pride in his work! in fighting too!
Meryl Stryfe
Flowershop Stampede's delivery driver! Also another full-timer besides Wolfwood.
If you spot her on the road with a big ass Ford F150 filled with crates and boxes filled with flowers and roses nooooo you didn't.
She mostly does the final parts of big orders, delivering and getting the sign-offs on orders!
Just delivered a big bunch of flowers for a bash?
"Sign right here for me and you're ready to go :)"
If you got a problem with her or one of the orders that were put in correctly or you don't wanna pay, she'll put Roberto on speaker for you 💖 or she'll curse you out AND THEN put him on speaker
best of both worlds.
Almost ran Wolfwood over as she was backing the truck up for bouquet pick-up.
He never let her live it down
"I don't know why you let her drive Roberto-"
"IT WAS JUST ONE TIME!"
no it wasn't
it was like the third but they don't have another driver.
also she's pretty good at getting flowers to their locations in record time to Roberto's dismay
the luck she has in not having gotten a ticket yet god damn. But she's still a pretty good driver! :D
Very good friends with Vash and Milly,, Whenever all three are on break, they go to the nearby coffee shop to get bread and coffee for everyone else working in the shop.
Milly accompanies her whenever theres' huge bouquets or arrangements to deliver so Meryl doesn't hurt herself.
And when she's not delivering anything, she helps the shop upfront by putting new plants out to display outside and inside the store!
Meryl appreciates everyone including the plants and works hard to show that she does!
Whip that car girl☝️ !!!!
Milly Thompson
Flowershop cashier and floral arranger! She actually works part-time due to her studies also.
She's a little oblivious but girl knows how to do her math real shit. Rings up the cash register in like a minute
"Next Customer! ^ - ^”
But she also does alot of the heavy duty shit around with Vash and Wolfwood.
Loading the truck, bringing in the crates filled with plants, strong millyyyy💪
Loves working there bc she's enamored with the stories customers and clients tell her and why they're buying flowers.
A proposal? Funeral? Someone just gave birth? Birthday?
People live very interesting lives and Milly finds it so fascinating to listen to them and how passionate they sound whenever they speak about their one and only(s).
Sometimes regulars who've known Milly well enough bring her pudding in exchange for a extra rose :) She's building up her little collection in the Kitchen fridge,
meryl is starting to get worried tbh
In Wolfwood's words, Milly is too considerate of a worker and he wants her to be more foots down but Milly politely declines his words of "wisdom"
Whenever Flowershop Stampede tables at any fairs or events, Milly likes to have fun gardening activities for the kids to come and enjoy!
Had her partner-crime Wolfwood convince Roberto to hold a Community and Kids Flower Bouquet Making class. Both Milly and Wolfwood leaded the event with pride.
And yes, all of Milly's family came and attended of course
Vash also did with Rem and a stubborn Nai who secretly enjoyed it
Wolfwood is now Uncle Wolf according to one of Milly's cousins.
milly: sooo uncle wolf what are the orders going out today?
wolfwood: milly i swear to god-

To find you in the endless chaos of this planet, of this universe, was nothing short of a miracle. Two souls intertwined to thoroughly, no force could untangle that bond. Nothing could erase you from his being. In your eyes he sees the poems Rem used to read, in your embrace he feels at home, in your voice he hears a thousand unsung lullabies. You're a million dawns all at once, painting his world in vivid colors. You have been, every day, even in the darkest, most hopeless of days, nestled in his heart.
Tumblr media
I've seen a lot of people rant about the different versions of the character of Trigun and what is and isn't canon and how every iteration "ruins" something. And I've seen this slander the most when it comes to Tristamp Vash or just Vash in general. But here's the thing, I think they are all valid versions of him and they are all canon, they are simply different stages of him.
Welcome to my Ted talk on why I think every version of Vash makes perfect sense!
In my head the different versions of him evolve like this:
Pre-canon Vash before starting to lose his marbles
Tristamp Vash
Trigun '98 Vash (+ Badlands Rumble I guess)
Trimax Vash
And I think (hope) we will see this evolution through the later seasons of Trigun Stampede so I put the following into the context of if Tristamp explores the change in Vash.
Let's start with Tristamp Vash:
From the very first scene we see him in, it is clear that this man does not have all his ducks in a row. He has started to lose his mind and my guess is that most of it comes from the fact that he has realized that Kni has set his plans into motion, he has to act or everything he has tried to protect so far will go up in flames. But this takes a huge toll on him and shakes his very ideals, he is simply in denial about it. He puts on a mask and pretends everything is great, but he is shaken and he is angry.
People say that Tristamp Vash isn't angry, but how could you say that if so often when he has his gun pulled at someone truly evil and dangerous, he looks like he will fucking shoot them (EG Mine is probably the easiest example of that). I feel like the idea of "for the greater good" is sneaking into his head, but killing anyone is so opposite to what he believes in that it again tears at him.
He goes on this journey with Wolfwood and he knows that Wolfwood is there to babysit him, yet their ideals rub off on one another. They start very radical, especially WW, they both think they know when to pull the trigger. By the end Wolfwood gets softer in his views and Vash starts to see WW's POV too, enforcing the "sacrifice for the greater good" idea. The motif of WW and Vash changing each other is a core theme in every iteration of Trigun, but I put it here since it makes the most sense.
By the end of Tristamp S1 we have the July incident, it's something we haven't seen first hand in any other iteration of Trigun, it has always already happened so ofc this version of Vash is different, he only now goes through the incredible trauma of that event and he has his brain scrambled by Knives as a bonus.
This brings me to Trigun '98 Vash:
This man barely has any ducks left and they are scattered to the wind. The placement or Eriks is a bit difficult considering where it happens for the other versions, but I believe that when we get to Tristamp S2 we will pick up with Eriks who has lost most of his memories due to Knives meddling in them and also his brain trying to protect him from the trauma of July.
The Vash that comes after Eriks is goofy and childlike, I believe he has gone quite mad, but still forces a mask onto himself, in conflict not only with his fragmented mind, but also his moralities. If S1 Vash says he can't help himself, his body reacts before he can to protect others, then '98 Vash does it knowingly. He takes the full abuse of gunfire knowing full well what he is getting himself into.
I think he finds freedom and relief in letting the craziness out a bit, the way he plays with children and interacts with the bad guys, he embraces the madness, but not enough to show his true self because he doesn't even fully know what that is.
Trimax Vash is quite similar to '98 Vash, but goes through another big development (Warning: some spoilers for Tirimax, duh):
It is very gradual the change from one version to another here, but the biggest difference happens when he regains the knowledge of what happened in July and Kni's return. It will probably be a Creature Vash moment where his Plant powers go berserk again, unlocking even more of his latent abilities he is not aware of and doesn't know how to control. So far he has been very human, since the beginning he has had this idea of himself being useless as a Plant, he has been under the impression that he doesn't have any powers and that he only has human needs (food, water, sleep). But his gunmanship alone won't be enough to stop Kni, he has to embrace his Plant side, he has to learn to control it. And once he starts getting the hang of it, he is able to save even more people than he would have before.
Trimax Vash, especially towards the end is a lot more confident, he has a better understanding of his morality and he has added tools to fulfill it. He still is a pacifist, he actively chooses to be good, he always has, but the motivation and doubt surrounding it has shifted a bit over time
The version of Vash that we have at the very end of Trimax in a way circles back to the Vash before July and Wolfwood, an earlier, slightly more sincere version of Vash without loosing the lessons learned from the past. The mask he has worn for so long falls away and he can feel genuine happiness because he is no longer driven by guilt, he has atoned in his mind.
Pre-canon Vash:
We know very little about Vash's past. Sure, we see a little bit of his childhood on the ship with Rem and Kni, we see glimpses of him with the crew on Home and we saw the incident where he activated his Angel Arm for the first time and lost his left arm due to it. But after that it's a whole lot of nothing. He is a very tragic character since basically day one, from a very young age he has been thought to pretend to be human in front of those who don't know his nature. A mask has been forced onto that 1 year old child. Not to mention the Great Fall and the guilt from that's pushing him forward and remaining his central force for the next 150 years.
I think after he became a drifter he learned to be even more human, he perfected his mask and lived as a human because leaving out the interactions with the Plants who needed his help, he only knew the human ways, his sisters were in a tank, their true nature locked away in a higher dimension anyway, the only other being like him on the whole planet is Kni and he hasn't seen him since he declared that in 100 years he will eradicate humanity, the very thing Vash loved so much.
Drifter Vash is probably the sanest version of him, confined to a routine of constantly moving on. But I also think that's the most naive and innocent version of him. In July WW comments that Vash freezes up as soon as a human is put in front of him and I think that's quite a defining characteristic of him in this period. A very stubborn outlook to life where he feels the need to save everybody and he would sacrifice himself for that rather than pick up arms to even get himself out of a sticky situation. He only shoots to save others, but not himself because he thinks he is expendable.
He lives in denial for the next 100 or so years following losing his arm with the same mindset of feeling like he needs to save everybody he can, even making promises he can't keep (like in the case of Rollo). When the Plant robberies start and probably even before that Vash realizes that Kni's plan has been set into motion and it will probably only make his guilt worse, knowing that he will have to go after Kni and save him too, otherwise his beloved humanity will pay the price for his inaction. And that's the start of his mental downfall leading into Tristamp S1. And perhaps there are other attributing factors...
This concludes my speech on the topic. I love this character and the intricacies of it and while everybody has a right to their own opinion, this is my understanding of it and I do truly hope that Trigun Stampede will continue exploring Vash's character and how trauma changes a person.
Feel free to expand on these ideas! I'm happy to discuss all of this in the notes or in my inbox :)
My fic Tempest Wind takes place before the events of Tristamp and this long, yet brief character analysis might help people understand the character arc of Vash in my story.
Tempest Wind is a 18+ Vash x F!Reader fic with some spice, some gore, a bit of action and a lot of fluff, for added flavor there's a sprinkle of angst too ofc.
Until I have finished the whole story, feel free to indulge in the published DEMO chapters:
Perfect Morning - domestic fluff, intimacy, mild smuttiness, shy Vash
Festivities - delusional bliss on an unfamiliar planet with weird traditions, ice skating and sweet Vash
Burn - basically smuttiness with little actual plot
Keep an eye out for a new demo chapter coming withing the next two weeks. It's gonna be Vash trying to seduce the reader before they get together!

Brad to the rescue
Tumblr media
Rating: 18+ Minors DNI
Pairing: Vash X F!Reader
CW: Canon Typical Violence, mentions of injury, blood and injury, Wolfwood being a Brat, Vash is passed out
Word count: 2.4K A/N: Chapter one of Home. After the whirlwind adventure that was the sand steamer you find yourself rescued by Home, with Vash still passed out and you not being in the best shape either the intervention of Brad and Luida is more than welcome since you know you could use the reprieve. The only downside is the tag along trio is with you, and you don't get the feeling you'll be able to just leave them behind. Then again. You could always hog-tie Wolfwood up since at least Roberto still gives you the sense he wants to be long gone from the brewing storm that's hovering over your final destination in JuLai.
Tumblr media
“Brad!” The sight of the older man seemed to make the thundering of your heart slow, and your grip on Vash loosened ever so slightly. Sure steps as he walked closer a few of the others from Home with him, the reason for the sound of thundering feet.
“Should have known the plant acting up was from the brat getting involved.” While it seems like he’s muttering under his breath you’ve learned enough about him over the years, and he’s glad to see the two of you running his fingers through his graying locks.
“Pardon the interruption, you two seem to be a bit chummy.” The bite in his tone is enough to tell you Roberto is in no way sorry about butting in, arms crossed and his eyebrow raised a rare show of emotion that isn’t just frustration on the older reporter.
“You could say that.” Slowly lowering down to the ground on one knee beside Meryl you can hear some of Brad’s joints pop and crack as he does. “Excuse me, young lady” reaching across her to place a hand on Vash’s chest. “Looks like it really took it out of the brat this time.”
“It seems to be getting longer.” Whispering to Brad since you still haven’t removed Vash from your lap which has to look comical now that you think about it. Vash towers over you and you’ve somehow got most of him tucked up against your body with his head resting against your shoulder and neck. The rare exhale from him cooling against your skin, a reminder he’s still alive.
“I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about, probably just pushed himself too hard.” Brad doesn’t miss the fear in your eyes, and while he’s concerned for Vash just as much as you are it’s a bad idea to let you see that same fear reflected back. “You wanna get out of here kid? Back to the ship?”
After the events of the last few weeks, the destruction of Jeneora Rock, having Knives make a direct threat on your life and then change his mind, being eaten by the grand worm, watching as Vash had to witness seeing a child he thought he had failed to save die? And now after what had happened in the sand streamer? “Yea. I think that’s a good plan, we could use the rest.” You and Vash both, him more so as far as you’re concerned wondering if part of the reason he’s still unconscious is because of all the other stress he’s been under lately. You doubt your most recent fight in the sand isn’t helping either, sure the two of you settled what was bothering you it had still been emotionally draining.
Looking over his shoulder Brad waves at two of the others that you recognize but can’t think of their names at the moment. “Let’s get Vash back to the ship, think you two can carry him?”
“I can help.” Feeling a slight tremble in your muscles at the slight movement as you tried to move Vash, only for Brad to chuckle at you.
“Did you think I missed that blood-soaked bandage around your leg? You’re in no condition to be trying to carry the brat, I’ve got my doubts if you can even stand on your own two feet.” Frowning in response to his words and knowing stare, you do relent letting the other two take Vash from your grasp.
A morose expression on your face as Vash is slowly carried off, the smallest of shakes from Wolfwood’s hand as they pass as if he was going to reach out and stop them. Grinding his teeth as he turned his gaze back to you once more, snapping. “If she can run on it, she can walk.” You’d like to punch him right then and there for all the bite he let color his words, you’d pulled off the impossible for him in stopping the ship and he’s already back on his mission to make sure you get to JuLai.
Brad lets out a huff shaking his head in disappointment ignoring the tanned man and staring at you. “Seems like you just never learn Snipes.” With Vash out of your lap and having been sitting with your legs at an odd angle for so long you're starting to feel the pain coming back while you scowl in Wolfwood’s direction. A sign your body is trying to heal the injury now that you’ve finally stopped exerting yourself and it requires your attention more than the undertaker. Using your palm to help you rise to the floor, as a smaller gloved one is held in front of you.
“Maybe you should try and take it a little easier.” She bit her lip and watched you, her blue eyes swimming in confusion yet Meryl still held out her hand for you to take.
“I will once I get to the ship.” Taking her offered hand in your own and rising, glad that once you’re standing you don’t stumble. Keeping an eye on Meryl and sending her a soft smile. “Good job, without you things might have turned out differently.” Very differently with that ion cannon.
“I just pressed a button.” Blinking in confusion.
“It was more than that.” Patting her shoulder lightly trying to reassure her. “You could have run, could have left to save yourself and you didn’t.” Unaware that Roberto is flinching just out of sight. “But” you let your smile shift into a hint of a frown “you still need to stop running after the sound of gunfire Penny.”
Laughing as she stomps her feet back to proclaiming that’s not her name and how you know that. “These three friends of yours?” Brad still has his arms crossed over his chest, and you realize it must seem just as suspicious to him about you and Vash having an entourage of sorts.
“I guess you could say that. They’ve been following us around for the last few weeks.” Ignoring the annoyed noises coming from the trio you keep going “I get the feeling they’re gonna follow us onto the ship. Hope that’s not a problem, but if it is well it’s not my decision to make.”
Trailing a hand through his hair before nodding “Since they’ve seen Vash it makes sense anyway, Luida is going to prefer to make sure once the town is alright and the ship before we take off. Let’s get you to the ship before anyone can ask too many questions alright.” Nodding yourself you head down the corridor aware of the trio following behind you and Brad, even with your slower pace it doesn’t take long to catch up to the pair carrying Vash.
Your heart is clenching in your chest seeing him still glowing and the blissed-out expression on his face with his unseeing eyes looking straight ahead. You’ll never get used to seeing it, the aftermath of speaking with one of his siblings and you hope you never have to.
Tumblr media
Once on the ship, the trio can’t keep the astonishment from their faces which you choose to ignore keeping pace with the pair carrying Vash down a familiar corridor. “Not the infirmary?” Swallowing past the nerves overtaking you once more, as much as you hate doctors you can at least manage going to the medical section of the ship.
“You and I both know he’ll come out of this when it’s time, it doesn’t make sense to stick him on a cot to monitor when we can put him in his own bed.” Clapping a hand to your shoulder as Brad tries to put your mind at ease. It’s honestly not working all that well. “Vash is a tough kid, he’ll come out of this before you know it.”
Reaching the sliding door to your shared room with Vash on the ship you sigh, nodding in agreement but it doesn’t help the churning in your stomach. Maybe the stress from the past few weeks is back in full force again, you and Vash might have made up a little after the events with Rollo but that didn’t negate all the stress the last few weeks have brought besides the emotional turmoil. Normally after something bad the two of you would hole up in a hotel for a few weeks, and what happened in Jeneora Rock alone was far more sever than your usual trouble.
Pausing at the door once the pair brought Vash in and looking to Brad biting your lip. “Could you keep these three outside?” Talking low so only he can hear you, watching him nod before you slip inside, removing your busted rifle from your back and leaning it against the corner as best as you can. You can’t focus on that right now, or you might not be able to keep yourself together. You can break later.
Once Vash is on the bed you thank the other two and as the door slides shut you close the distance to his side, keeping your touch gentle as you remove his coat careful of the pauldron for his prosthetic. Hanging it on the back of one of the chairs in the room before you work on his boots, and work your way to his belt to slide his holster from the straps keeping it in place. Setting it and peace bringer on the small table on what you’ve always considered his side of the bed before finally removing his sunglasses, his eyes still wide open.
“Oh, Sunshine.” Alone trying to keep the tears from falling down your face. “Please hurry back, I hate seeing you like this.” Careful as you can you let your fingers trail down his face closing those blue eyes that are normally so expressive, pressing a kiss to his forehead before rising. You need to do some moving or you might just curl up against him and let your emotions get the better of you.
Removing your jacket and placing it on the other chair before you hear a commotion outside the room. Stepping past the door to see Brad and Wolfwood having a stand-off, sighing. “What now?” Groaning as you drag a hand down your face in frustration. You couldn’t even get more than ten minutes without something happening.
A low growl is your answer before a much softer and level-headed voice speaks. “It seems our guest is not much of a fan of the no-smoking rule on the ship.”
“Luida.” Looking around Brad you see the older woman and leader of ship three, better known as Home standing there. A flick of your fingers and you’ve got the cigarette that had been hanging from Wolfwood’s mouth snatched from him. “Play nice Undertaker or she’ll kick you off the ship.” It’s an empty threat, you can’t see Luida ever kicking someone off the ship once they get on but Wolfwood doesn’t need to know that. “Hard to follow something you won’t be able to keep up with.” A final drop of that hint and you know he’ll relent.
“Tch” Frowning at you before turning his attention back to Luida “it wasn’t even lit.” One of his hands is stuffed in his pocket while the other is still cradling his weapon. No doubt looking for another stick made from worms to stick between his teeth.
“Regardless, there is no smoking allowed on this ship.” As always Luida gives the impression of her calm warming charm, a leader full of compassion with her hands folded in front of her and a smile on her face that reaches her eyes. Her voice cutting to ensure the dark haired man understood she was in charge.
“Do you ever put that thing down?” Snarking at Wolfwood when you’d much rather be still in your room. Ideally doing some puttering and glancing at Vash while you worked waiting for him to wake up once more.
“Never know when I might need it.” Growled back as you roll your eyes at him practically able to hear the sound of his teeth grinding in his skull. Rolling his shoulders and ignoring you before his gaze is squarely on Brad. “Anywhere on this bucket of bolts, I can get something to eat Grandpa?”
It’s instantaneous as you slap the back of his head at his disrespectful tone, a short look of astonishment on his face before Brad laughs. “Yea, come on. I can take you where the other two headed off to and get some food into you too.” A wave of his hand and Wolfwood follows after, but not without sending you a scathing look.
“It’s good to see you.” Luida’s voice is soft as you turn your attention to her once more, rubbing the back of your head almost shyly at how close she is.
“Yea. It’s good to see you too, and Brad. It’s nice to be home I think.” Tapping your foot on the floor, an action you regret as you wince with the pain racing up your leg. Guess your body wasn’t working as fast as usual or all the running around the ship had compounded your injury.
“I see you’re still getting yourself into trouble.” A gentle chortle as a dainty hand covers her mouth. “Let’s go see about that leg of yours hmm?”
“You don’t need to Luida. It’ll be healed up in no time.” Not that you don’t appreciate the offer but you want to get back to Vash as soon as possible, you want to be there when he wakes up from his plant-induced nap.
A stern call of your name and you wince for a different reason, the look on her face closer to that of an annoyed parent than a friend at the moment. “Vash will be fine without you hovering over his side, and he’ll worry over you and your leg. We won’t be gone too long getting you patched up, now follow me.” That tone of hers books no argument and you sigh, following after Luida to the infirmary. You know it won’t be just getting your leg patched up, no doubt Luida will want a blood sample to check how you’re doing and to shoot a few needles of your own white blood cells into your body to stave off another chance of an infection.
Something on your visits to Home just never changes. You aren’t sure if you’re happy about it or not, but it always does one thing. Reminds you there are people on this planet who care for you enough to think you’re worth the trouble. Just like your precious Sunshine.

Trigun Maximum 2 Part 1
Time to dive into Vol. 2. (weeks to late, but I get there!)
Also, why does Nightow has the Shojo-Style from the 80s down to the t?
Tumblr media
01: The return of the blue wind of death
Tumblr media
Is he a prisoner that exchanges his imprisonment time for this task? Does he really think that he would work for his whole sentence of 830 years? It looks like the life expectancy is like 50 years max on No-Man’s-Land, with exceptions of course. So many young and middle aged men, but not very many old ones sitting in the pubs. Many children, many orphans and not enough people to take care of them. Those who get older seem to be in the crafts, like… uh… the shoemaker that was killed by Legato… Yeah…
The uniform reminds me of something… gimme a minute…
Tumblr media
Ah! Fitting for a “western” the government dudes are dressed in the get-up from the US.Army from the American war. Wasn’t sure which side, but it is the U.S Army side, so they are at least not evil coded. 😀 Looks like something between a Sergeant, a Major or a Captain. But we shall never know which rank he has exactly. But the look fits with the whole genre!
Ah! Yaoi man! I know him! When I found the silly figurine on amazon I thought its head was too small… But I think I stand corrected.
Tumblr media
But isn’t he -designwise- like a counterpart to Wolfwood? Hair gelled back, a white, immaculate suit, contrasting Wolfwood’s design of messy hair and a black suit, but they have the same tendency to not fully button the suit jacket up. Another thing, that we see later in the chapter, is a sense of selfpreservation that both share. Though the reason behind it seems different. Wolfwood needs to survive for his purpose, the protection of the orphanage, while Hornfreak just has a normal, human survival instinct. He may actually like being alive, even with being a killer.
Tumblr media
The whole fight is interesting. Why did the commander send his men there? What happened? The owner of the property is not in town, so why is he even interested in that place? What does the occupation mean? How did they know? Then Hoppered warning the men about Legato and asking them to save themselves, which makes me ask if the army has any ulterior motives here.
Tumblr media
Hooboy, Nightow knows when the reader's imagination is worse than whatever he can draw. We know what happens in the truck… We can imagine that… Not showing it makes it so much worse…
I love how we, the readers, see the impending danger to Home. We get to see the puppet fly, we get to connect the dots. Everyone else is unknowing. We already experience the tension, the foreboding. Which makes Vash staying away from Home so much more sad. He doesn’t allow himself to be welcome and feeling safe, because he knows he is hunted down. It still won’t keep his close ones safe.
02: Resume our Business
Tumblr media
No way anyone forces Legato to eat like this! Legato is having a fucking pity party and punishes himself, because Knives was mad at him for trying to kill his brother. He does this to himself. He revels in the punishment. It is a theatrical play of how much he idolises Knives. And it is scary.
Tumblr media
Hoppered being the sensible one. Dude, you seem so nice, what are you doing with those people!
Yeah, something snapped in Legato, when Knives punished him. Knives is such a fucking tyrant. “Hey, I punish you violently and over the top for wanting to fulfil my wishes, because I, without communicating it, changed my mind! And that is your mistake.” And Legato has to believe that, because if not it would mean his whole idolisation is wrong and that would destroy this man’s self. I pity him. Knives needs someone who stands up to his bullshit and Legato needs someone who actually cares about him. Both make each other worse!
And… while I like Hornfreak’s speech… As an assassin you don’t give a whole speech that announces that you want to kill your target! Especially since you know he has some kind of power, too! *headdesk* Well, get bretzel’d.
I think it is interesting how he starts by trying to connect to his other gun-ho-guns, but then turns around and distances himself from them by calling them “Maniacal killers”! He gives a whole speech to give reason to his betrayal and excuse it.
Tumblr media
BDSM-Knives return! I think revenantghost already said this, but… Knives, if you are the reason people hunt Vash down… It is not the human’s fault that Vash suffers… Knives is fucking delusional... And selfreflection? Never heard of her!
Legato says: “That is his will. And it shall be done.”
And it reads like a fucking quote from the bible.
Acts “And since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, remarking, “The will of the Lord be done!””
James “Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.””
Legato is idolising Knives so hard, he makes him his God.
Tumblr media
And to counter this unhealthy behaviour, we have the dumbasses on the next page. Especially Wolfwood treating Vash like an equal human being. I love this whole skit!
Vash, you had your whole 150 years to learn how to drive anything! How did you survive, walking miles upon miles between the cities under the sun’s heat? You were run out of them so often! How did you get away quickly?
Liar by omission? Wolfwood? Nah! Liar by avoidance! He really just needs someone who does not stop asking and he would break down. But Vash does not do that. No one does!
Tumblr media
Well, Rai-Dei literally spelled out that Wolfwood is part of the Gun-Ho-Guns, no denying that. They know each other, Rai-Dei says loudly that Wolfwood is “planning” something. And Wolfwood looks just so conflicted, maybe even near tears?
I am confused what Rai-Dei means by Vash’s “selfish ways”. Is it based on his bushido? The morals of the bushido changed with the eras, like there are different types. Some say to retreat from an unwinnable battle, while others say to stay until your death.
And Wolfwood, you know this guy! I am sure you already know that he is using a fucking blade against guns and fared splendidly enough to become a Gun-Ho-Gun… Wolfwood in this fight feels like fucking Speedwagon.
*snorts* Wolfwood tagging out and Vash calling him a “Demon Priest”. Peak comedy for me!
I love the change from the silliness to dark seriousness, when Rai-Dei nonchalantly tells Vash that they are about to invade his home. I also think it is interesting, how Nightow then pans to Wolfwood, dark-eyed and serious, as if he just made up his mind about something. Most likely that he is not okay with innocents being killed just so Vash feels bad. Again a contrast to Keele, who was willing to kill a random woman so he gets to Vash.
And again, Vash is put into a trolley problem. Kill Rai-Dei to move to Home faster and maybe rescue more of his close people or waste time to keep Rai-Dei alive, but risk losing close people. For many people, it would be an easy decision (if you call killing someone easy), but Vash needs to save every person. If everyone is family and thus equally important, no one is. Rai-Dei literally tells him that he came here to die, but Vash cannot accept that.
03: Samurai Showdown
Tumblr media
And while Vash hesitates, Wolfwood deems Vash’s home as important enough to interfere and to get ready to fight Rai-Dei. He hides himself behind his sunglasses, but still gets spotted. And I like that about Wolfwood, that he is able to decide for himself who he is ready to protect and how far he is willing to go.
Damn, Rai-Dei just called Vash not human. Together with his weird fixation on the fight, he comes off as a weird monster hunter. Poor Vash.
Tumblr media
Are you talking about them or about yourself, Wolfwood? Wolfwood's selfhate is on the platter here.
I know it is Vash’s ideals, but that he stalls and takes so much time to “Make Rai-Dei cast away his sword” while the people he calls his family are in danger, always reads as so cold, like he has no real connection to them. Like I said, if everyone is important, no one is.
Tumblr media
Why is Wolfwood so weirdly fixated that guns are better than swords? Why is he so offended by this? This whole shout feels so out of the place! I stay by my stance that in the two years Rai-Dei talked Wolfwood’s ear off about how much better katanas are and how much more graceful and yadayada and Wolfwood was just so close to ending him after like five hours of that.
04: Wolfwood
Tumblr media
Oh, fuck. It goes down! That front page?! Four being the unlucky number connected with death. Wolfwood holding onto the punisher, that reaches out of the panel, but also wraps kinda around him. The way he crumbles the cigarette package in his hand and his forlorn, bitter look on his face, away from us and staring at something off the screen. Chef’s kiss. I hate it *thumbs up*
It looks like a memory of the past. An impression that Wolfwood left after they have already parted ways. He looks so incredibly lonely and burdened here. And at the same time, a shield to somebody.
Tumblr media
Hand on the trigger!
Tumblr media
God, this page. The contrast to the wild action the page before, the weird, blurred lines surrounding Wolfwood, Vash, Rai-Dei’s end and Wolfwood’s cold stare with pinprick eyes. It gives you a feeling how quickly everything went down.
I’ve thought about Rai-Dei’s train of thought. Surely, there is the whole: “I cannot start anew! All the time I’ve used to become this! The sins I’ve committed!” But… it feels more like him acting upon his way of the warrior. If you cannot win the fight, you die in it. Kinda like a version of seppukku or kamikaze, which all kinda rounds back to bushido and societal standards.
Tumblr media
I am sorry, what does that even mean?! The blade is still in its original position? What? No, he took the sword, wrapped his finger around the trigger and was about to thrust it into Vash’s back. This always reads for me as Vash in denial.  Why wouldn’t he have pulled the trigger? I feel like I am too dumb to understand this panel.
Tumblr media
This may be a controversial take, but hear me out. Vash’s recurring modus operandi! He gives other people all the agency to act as they like and he reacts to them. Is this a way to unconsciously have no real responsibility for the outcome? It puts him apart from every normal human and puts him more into the position of a mightier being. And, damn, at the same time this must sound completely naive and away from any kind of sound mind to Wolfwood. It is a way of life that is possible only if you have no connection to other people! As long no one cares about him, he can do as he pleases with his own health. But here he is confronted with somebody who cares enough that he killed for Vash and because of Vash’s denial of action. Vash could act in the past as he liked, because he didn’t share his path with someone who cares for him! But now, if he gives all his agency away, not only his opponent may act as he wishes, his partners may also act upon their wishes. Wolfwood’s wish was to save Vash! And I understand why Wolfwood may feel like the deed was pushed onto him by Vash.
Wolfwood hates his way of life and he judges himself harshly. It defines his whole being. At the same time he is in a position of no real agency. To protect the orphanage and survive himself as a former orphan, he needed the power that his position brings. Like we all said, a man between a rock and a hard place. He calls himself a devil! You can’t put yourself down more, especially as a priest. I get that Wolfwood does not really expect Vash to shoot, that he acts out of anger here. But damn, this is a cry for punishment, something, some human reaction from Vash. And Wolfwood does not get it.
I love the detail of Vash having his finger pointedly away from the trigger.
And while I get that Vash does see Wolfwood for who he really is and not for what kind of front he puts up, this is not the time to put him down a peg. The man just killed someone for Vash, he is hurt like fuck and is lashing out. And what Vash says comes off as pity and judging. It is Vash not understanding humans and especially Wolfwood at all through the lens of his ideals. Which is so fucking weird when he is at the same time spot on about Wolfwood’s inner workings! He goes like half the way and then just stops. There is no follow up from Vash to find the reason why Wolfwood is so determined to play the devil or why his heart cries out. And that is a very big flaw in Vash and how he interacts with people. He gives people all the agency to control the furthering of their relationship (until he runs away). The problem is Wolfwood never learned to open up, from what we can tell, he never was in a space safe enough to learn that. Wolfwood is self reliant to a fault, because he had to. Both of their flaws and past makes it impossible right now for them to understand each other. And that makes me just sad. Wolfwood does so much to understand Vash and Vash stays still.
Tumblr media
Thanks, I’ll take that for my nightmares.
Tumblr media
Girls, I love you, but you had him! You had him already! But you chose to use all of your vacation days and let him go!
This whole scene reads so weird, like Keele did not happen. XD I love how especially Milly are like: Yep, we’re friends! And I love how they include Wolfwood, even though they seem to have forgotten his name. Guy left an impression, at least.
Tumblr media
Damn, Meryl must be squished with the guy kinda climbing out the window from behind her! But good from her to ask Jessie to check the wreckage out! Saving people is always the right thing to do!
The girl is calling out for Vash. Is she the one with the puppy crush? But calling out for him when your literal ship fell from the sky is weird. I feel for Brad.

Part 1 here.
But shockingly, it is Vash who pulls the gun on Knives. And we get our first serious look from Vash! Knives has no choice but to back off and he leaves with Conrad…
So Vash finally stands up to his brother. Watch Knives' face here - he is shocked, and then he looks pained before he starts cackling wildly in disbelief and madness at the unfairness of it all. Then he declares that he will build the plant paradise himself - you'll see, YOU'LL ALL SEE!
Despite everything that's happened, Knives never thought he'd be rejected by his own brother.
Luida welcomes him back home as he asks about his friends who are all ‘thrilled’ to see him. Though Wolfwood tries to pretend like they aren’t friends.
So we are introduced to a significantly older Brad and Luida here. Meryl is surprised to learn that they've known Vash for 150 years, and they reveal that their secret is cold sleep. They also explain that in order to lessen the load on the ship's plants, they've left all of the original colonists in cold sleep as well.
Confirmed - no puppet master arc with rampant civilian deaths to be replaced by puppets that fall apart in Vash’s arms.
Nope, guess not.
Meryl asks if plants are powering the ship and Luida takes her and Roberto to the large internal garden.
Luida shows them but a fraction of what presumably existed back on Earth, and what was supposed to exist on their new homeworld were it not for the crash. Now, they only have enough power to cultivate that rooftop garden. And Meryl has evidently never seen flowers before.
A common item found in all versions of Trigun is alcohol. You need grains to brew beer, distill spirits and the like. Stampede is telling us that all of that booze we saw in the beginning is produced by something other than grains?
Yes. My understanding is that the plants-in-bulbs produced a lot of the basic materials and raw goods that were later processed into other things. This is why Luida is initially so curious to find out what it is that Vash "makes", and why it seems so weird that he doesn't "make" anything. This is also why humanity is relying so heavily on the plants in the first place - they crashed on a world unfit for farming.
Roberto tries to smoke and Luida tells him not to which results in his request of Meryl. That’s right, he’s no longer calling her newbie, she’s now Meryl…
He only calls her by name this once, then he's back to calling her "newbie" for the rest of the episode. But calling her by her name suggests that he's starting to see her as an equal - a big deal in a culture that's not as egalitarian as the US is.
Vash is more intent to not kill - adding he’ll never do it again. This implies that there was an incident where he did end up killing. Our non-July-July incident of the past 150 years? What else happened - since so far we don’t have anything to go on for Vash’s own past mistakes.
…Are you fucking serious, OP?? The incident in question was the initial crashing of the colony ships. Remember how Nai branded Vash an accomplice to the act and said that Vash gave him the computer passcodes that allowed him to alter the ships' trajectory? And how Vash was utterly horrified by the dead in the wreckage and took it upon himself to atone for his role in the act? THAT IS THE THING THAT HAPPENED.
Luida meekly stumbles into the room to inform them that Worms busted in and kidnapped Meryl and Roberto.
No, Luida stumbles into the doorway out of breath and clearly distressed.
I get that she’s older but she didn’t run to them…
Yeah, she did.
…she leads them back to the dome and Wolfwood is able to state that Zazie the Beast is the one who took them.
I mean, he'd be the one to know what Zazie's handiwork looks like.
They way up in another generic looking room as Zazie welcomes them to July, which is the crashed plant carrying ship.
Well, the city around the ship, I guess. I can't believe the worms carried those two all the way there, dang. Seems like a bit of a stretch.
Meryl asks if they’d met before and Zazie replies not in the current form.
So Zazie kidnaps Meryl here, too, as per the manga.
Roberto then shoots Zazie, who disperses into individual worms before reforming their body on the other side explaining it is a conduit.
Y'know, maybe the worms flying toward the ship in that one scene were actually Zazie and not like, a separate swarm of worms like I initially assumed they were. Hm.
This entire interaction is Zazie the Beast as our new info dump character.
Zazie provides exposition here, yes. They state that humans seemingly already destroyed one planet, and are perhaps set to do it to another. The worms are the native species of No Man's Land and view both humans and plants as invasive species. However, they've been sizing up the situation and are trying to figure out who best to side with to ensure their own continued survival.
This does sort of guarantee that all road lead to July, which Vash may blow up with - his still remaining right arm?
I dunno, probably. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
I'm not even gonna bother with the rest of whatever's there, because it's basically so much whining about how the 90s series was better and I'm tired.

Anime I Need to Watch (March 2017 update)
I was debating whether I should do these list updates at the start or end of each month, and whether it was worth updating it right now since I only made that list a week ago. But, I did want to add some things I forgot, and I’m too impatient to wait until tomorrow or the end of April. So, screw it, I’ll do this now and update these lists at the end of each month.
There’s not a lot of stuff that needs updating, but so far I did manage to watch a few things. I’ll describe what anime I’ve watched this month and how I felt about them briefly down below.
First off, I finished Trigun. And honestly, I really enjoyed it... but I’m not sure if I’d put it in my top 10 anime just yet.
I dunno, I enjoyed the series and it was really good, but something about it just kinda felt like it was really good, but not great. But I think this is a me thing, I’ll admit I’m not really a big fan of westerns and there wasn’t much wrong with Trigun, it’s a really good show with a lot of heart, good action, okay comedy and some good writing. There’s some stuff that made me pretty emotional too, and I really like Vash and Wolfwood’s characters (Meryl and Milly were just kinda okay to me). I really don’t know, maybe I just need to re-watch it again when I’m in just the right mood. I enjoyed Trigun a lot, don’t get me wrong and I’d gladly re-watch it again sometime. I’m just a little confused that I feel I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I should have, but I can’t really describe why I feel that. Maybe it’s just hype backlash or something.
I also got a chance to watch the Fist of the North Star movie from 1986, since Linkara recently got around to reviewing a chapter of the manga through patreon request I thought I might as well watch something from this franchise. Aaaand...
It was alright.
Yeah, the movie was firmly in the realm of okay for me. It’s pretty clearly dated and with the way a lot of it’s written you can definitely tell it was a very condensed version of the manga story, a lot of stuff could have been fleshed out and explained better, and the fights were really nothing to write home about. And that ending felt so forced and out of nowhere.
But that said, the movie does have it’s charms as an 80′s action flick. I liked the heroic characters well enough, and while I don’t usually like ultra violent and gory stuff, this film did make it’s gory action kinda fun in how over the top it got. And while the production values haven’t aged well, there is something charming about the film’s animation, there were plenty of cool moments and some good music.
So, yeah, nothing special and the film has some problems and could be kinda dull, and a tad stupid and confusing at parts, but I enjoyed it. I also decided to watch the first episode of the Toei anime adaption of Fist of The North Star and I enjoyed that a bit more, so I’ll probably watch the whole anime at some point soon after I get through the next two shows I’m watching. However long that takes.
Most notably, I decided to start watching Yu Yu Hakusho, which my buddy @dbzebra considers his second favourite anime after Dragon Ball. Seeing how we share a lot of the same interests and I trust his judgement, I decided to give it a watch. I just finished the whole first season, and so far, I’m LOVING it!
Honestly the show got me hooked by the end of the first episode, and it’s only gotten better since. I’ll probably go more into detail on my thoughts on this one in next months progress report, since it’ll probably take me most of April to finish the show considering it’s over a hundred episodes, but honestly if it keeps being as good as it’s been so far, it’ll easily make my top 5 favourite anime by the time I’m done, maybe top 3. I really love the characters, the story and just the general feel of the show. So yeah, thanks DBZebra, I probably wouldn’t have watched this if I didn’t know you liked it so much.
So, yeah. That’s my anime bingeing progress for the end of March. So far my plan for April is to finish Yu Yu Hakusho and also get back to Shokugeki No Soma (Food Wars!), an anime I was watching on the suggestion of my friend Hayley566 and I was really enjoying, but I got distracted after watching episode 9 and I haven’t got back to it. I hope I’ll finish it by the end of the month. After those shows I’ll probably go with something shorter, like Yuri on Ice or One Punch Man.
I also just got the Ghibli movie Only Yesterday in the post today, so I’m going to watch that right now. I’ve also ordered the dvd’s for Akira, Pokémon Destiny Deoxys and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, so I’ll have watched those movies soon, and hopefully more before the end of the month.
And again, I welcome any recommendations I get from people. Not that anyone’s really interested in hearing me ramble on about my stupid viewing habits, but oh well.
