the fucking iron grip that KHR has on my ass is insane bc its such an EPITOME of found family - bc its not even the side effect of like a shared goal or mission the way found families tend to be - but because FOUND FAMILY IS THE ENTIRE POINT
its the end goal, its the journey, its the whole story
theres a wholeass emphasis on tsuna's big empty house getting more crowded and more noisy
and not only that, its found family and a found purpose - each of the vongola find an achor in tsuna and vice versa - like fuck everybody else, im with them type a way
its that bone gnawing loyalty where not even the hounds of hell could keep these assholes from having each other's back
not just their relation to tsuna - which is the primary focus of the story but their relation to each other - how they must learn to be together bc again
Found Family Is The Mission

so I’ve mentioned it before but I started watching bnha soon after 7/15, because it was my birthday and I had gotten on tumblr and saw that it was also Deku’s birthday.
Sharing a birthday wasn’t the actual reason I started watching it, it was more so the fact that I was a) already trying to choose another (specifically shounen) anime to watch and b) had seen so so much bnha on tumblr, especially on that day, and I figured I might as well get in on it (I didn’t even know season 4 was coming out soon and in hindsight I’m so glad I caught up because tumblr goes fucking buck wild for bnha as any season of it comes out and it doesn’t matter who you follow, no one is safe)
but yeah, I’ve currently got about 60 anime on my plan-to-watch list and bnha wasn’t even Fucking One Of Them (but that’s just how it goes, isn’t it)
I was very indifferent about it at first, but even then I was still thinking about it when I wasn’t watching it. I had a lot of questions (that eventually got answered). There were things that rubbed me the wrong way (subtle and not-so-subtle fetishy stuff, how the female characters are treated/written, Mineta existing at all, etc. But like. I find a lot of shounen anime to be this way. Doesn’t excuse them, but I make my Disgusted™ face and soldier on). But there were also a lot of things I liked. It’s funny, the animation and art style (especially the manga’s) is really cool, and I fell for most of the characters immediately.
For a while, it was just something for me to watch on the train. And I don’t know when it happened, but eventually I liked it so much that I could no longer watch it on the train because I would be visibly reacting to scenes. Didn’t matter much anyway, I caught up in about 9 days (would have been shorter, but I had a full time job at the time).
Anyway, I got distracted from the series because a couple weeks later I was dumped and then fired (yikes) and had to move from Denver to Kansas. Still, I was looking at fan art during the whole 7 hour drive.
I wanted to read the manga, but I’ve never read a manga this long. I wanted to make sure I had the Time and the Energy. I ended up starting it on August 29th and caught up with it 3 days ago on the 7th. I have yet to read Vigilantes or Smash!! but I’m getting to it
I started the manga for 2 reasons
a) Season 4 in just a month!! I wanted to know what I’m in for
b) I needed to figure out the hype around certain characters. I am hyper aware of the fact that tumblr latches on to characters so hard to the point where it doesn’t even make sense and they end up mischaracterizing them. I wanted to accurately Form my Opinions.
I’m the type to usually have the main character or someone close to the main character as my favorite (um if that wasn’t already blatantly fucking obvious lmao) and it’s because they almost always have the most character development/detailed backstory! That isn’t to say that I can’t infer things about the more minor characters, it’s just that usually they’re much less interesting/developed anyway. Bnha is overwhelming because there are several lovable characters.
But yeah, after watching the anime and having not yet read the manga, I was having a lot of trouble understanding the hype around: Mirio (based on what you see in the anime, he didn’t really have a personality yet, just POWERRRR and a cool-ass quirk, but don’t get me wrong, I love him now! He’s super admirable and really interesting. I also love his interactions/relationship with Deku!)
Kirishima (he seemed like a generic supporting character to me. He was really funny the whole anime, but I failed to see why he was so popular. After reading his backstory and watching him overcome his shortcomings, watching him frame himself in such a realistic way, etc, I loved him! His character design is really, really cool, and he’s a super lovable guy. You want to be his friend. Definitely the kind of character I can’t imagine anyone hating.)
Todoroki (out of the characters I list here, I understood this hype the most, because a decent amount of his backstory/character is already revealed in the anime. But people fucking LOVE Todoroki. I saw him more than any other character on my dashboard, even before I consumed the series and followed bnha blogs. I was like yeah, he’s cool and interesting, but is he that cool and interesting? The answer is yes! Todoroki is a very mature, clever, multi-faceted in depth character and he’s also fucking hilarious. Also, his quirk? Hell yes!)
and then Bakugo.
Um
I still don’t understand the Bakugo hype. I like his character design (his Japanese VA is perfect, like what a fucking voice, he probably can’t even speak after recording), I like that his existence motivates Deku, and some of the things he says make me laugh out loud
But like, I cannot humanize him, and I cannot understand the hype. I was really really hoping the manga would help me Understand the Hype but it didn’t really?
Listen,
Tumblr media
Horikoshi basically said ‘I was going to make Bakugo an actual character with human emotions besides anger, I was going to give him empathy, I was going to make him not wholly self-absorbed, I was going to give him a personality besides that of a wet house cat,
but look at him! Look into his eyes! There is nothing there. Only anger.’
Or rather, he literally calls him “explosively rotten and detestable”.
BUT RACHE, what about when he brought Deku aside to talk about his quirk? What about that one time he showed a single scrap of softness?
Okay I’ll give you one thing - he did finally show an emotion that wasn’t just anger (even though he was still angry the whole time). We learned that Bakugo can feel Regret. But also…was that whole thing not only just about him?
It was ’I feel guilty about being the catalyst that ended All Might’s career’
’I need to fight Deku to prove myself, despite his initial protests’
’I need to break the school’s rules and get both of us in trouble because I can’t handle my own feelings’
He was only thinking about himself the whole time, so I don’t really put much stock in that argument. I was surprised that he agreed to keep the existence of One for All a secret, and I still believe it was totally out of character for him to do so, but the alternative would cause the unraveling of the entire story, so.
Upon reading the manga, I found one (1), one scrap of hope. And if you’ve read the manga, you probably know what I’m talking about, because it was kind of a big deal to people.
Tumblr media
He said that. I actually gasped when I read it. I really couldn’t believe it (oh the bar is so low though)
THIS was a really good example that Bakugo has feelings somewhere. And believable, too! It didn’t come off as out of character for a couple reasons -
a) He is saying it to a child he will likely never see again. He would never say this within earshot of a classmate (Todoroki, Yoarashi, and Camie were all adequately distracted) and if god forbid Deku were to ever hear that from him, he would backpedal so fast he’d get whiplash. But yeah, of course he’d never say anything like that around anyone that matters.
b) The setting. He’s actively in the remedial classes, where he can only be hyper-aware of his failures and shortcomings, whether he likes it or not. This line/scene occurs rather far into the manga. He hasn’t gotten anywhere and he fucking knows it. Every time he makes a move or has a chance, it backfires. He’s starting to realize his self-absorption alone is holding him back and this line is a hint that maybe, maybe he’ll change
but will Horikoshi write that? I have trouble picturing him doing that, and if Bakugo does change, it is going to take a really
really
long time. I know a lot of fans have the patience to see it happen, I suppose I do now as well, but I suspect casual fans won’t.
In a way, I am a little obsessed with Bakugo just because you all are. I’m always trying to understand the psychology. I’m not trying to insult anyone who does have the impulse to humanize him (some of you though…SOME of you DEFINITELY go too far) because again, his character design is cool, his quirk is cool, and he can be funny at times (albeit not at all clever).
I will definitely be here for the seemingly unattainable dream chapter in which he apologizes to Deku. I can’t even imagine it…
I’m a little annoyed at myself now, because Deku is my favorite character but I simply don’t have much to say. I just wrote a goddamn Bakugo Essay but I don’t have much to say about Deku. He’s one of the most motivational and relatable characters I’ve ever come across. Call him a generic shounen protag all you want, but I love him. If it were 2012 and kin was still a thing (and I had That Type of Brain) I’d be hard pressed to find a better kin candidate (born on Jul 15? infp? Bullied mercilessly yet resilient? Sweet as fuck? Same god damn hat Deku). He’s adorable, funny, nerdy, and ferocious. That boy goes absolutely feral on his opponents/enemies and you love to see it.
But anyway, yeah! Bnha fucking rocks and I don’t give a fuuuck if it’s associated with cringe culture. “Cringe culture” is cringe culture. I was telling my brother about how the plot is dummy simple, so I can see how people think it’s overrated. However, it’s hard not to love the characters, and the creativity of their designs and quirks! Horikoshi had my head spinning with the infinite amount of unique characters he seems to pull out of his ass and make likable (or at least respectable) (um save for Mineta, fuck that guy, what a ginormous mistake. There’s this song I like called “Don’t Give Me Grapes” and while the lyrics aren’t applicable at all, I get that song stuck in my head whenever I see that idiot because my brain says “Don’t give me grapes.” Don’t give me grapes).
The writing is also fucking captivating, like obviously everyone knows the hero will come out the victor every single time, but with bnha’s arcs, you definitely find yourself asking “but how?? How the fuck will they get out of this one??” You’re left biting your nails thinking “dude, man, Horikoshi, there’s no way you didn’t just write yourself into a corner right now” but then there’s the TWISTS and ugh I love them. I love them. I Lov

About the Gon bashing
So there’s a lot of people being anti-Gon and being mad at him for what happened in the CA arc and all. So I thought, as someone who got annoyed at Gon at first, then stopped doing it, I’d get at the reasons why people might misunderstand his character. (It’s messy as hell and I suck at conveying ideas and I ramble a lot, sorry).
So actually, the first time I read HxH was when I was 12yo and it was mostly me half-heartedly binge-reading HxH without getting really getting involved in the characters and all (I was a really stupid 12yo), then dropped it because I considered Alluka too ass-pulley to my taste (Now I think that Alluka/Nanika are best girls and they rock) and had no real opinion on what happened .
I only decided to reread/rewatch it again this year, mainly because I wanted to rewatch the CA arc, and just binge-watched stuff necessary to rewatch the CA arc (I also skipped the ZF arc because I didn’t think there was anything interesting to rewatch and vaguely remembered it).
I’m kind of baffled how some people want Killua to ‘not forgive Gon’ and all. Being a Killua fan/stan doesn’t even justify it because Killua is absolutely my favorite character and I think it’s a huge disservice to his character to woobifie him/victimize him/invalidate why he loves Gon so much. He’s one of the mentally strongest characters of the show and his character development is beautiful and while he have a lot of issues, reducing all his relationship with Gon to ‘ow poor Killua not knowing any better’ is kind of an insult to him.
Erm, so aside from the 2011 anime removing most of how much Kite mattered to Gon, I’m gonna adress some of the reasons that aren’t talked about as much
A lot of people who are mad at Gon are pro-Pitou people, or people thinking that Gon doesn’t care about Killua as much as Killua does about Gon , and the belief that Kirugon is one-sided .
And I was sad as hell for Killua after watching the CAA, and thought Killugon was one-sided too, and a lot of stuff about Gon bothered me but somehow, the interpretation “Gon is jerk/evil/don’t care about Killua as much as Killua does about him” didn’t sit well with me either, and I didn’t know how the hell I should interpret his character so it frustrated me to no end, so I desperately tried to understand his character and rewatched HxH and read meta/characters analysises until it made sense again (which took weeks) .
One really intriguing thing was that before rewatching the CA arc, I didn’t consider the ZF arc proof that Gon care about Killua in particular, but despite not rewatching it, I felt the Zoldyck Family arc mattered after I finished the CA arc again.
So I wondered about it and.. The main thing that changed before and after rewatching the CA arc is considering Gon as a generic shounen protag, actually.
It’s such a weird argument to bring up, but, if you consider Gon a generic shounen protag like, say, Naruto or Luffy, then the whole ZF arc would be less about him caring about Killua, and more ‘I saw people being a bad family to that kid, but it is not right !!’ which is a fairly generic shounen protag thing to do, it wouldn’t even matter if Gon cared about Killua in particular or not, he’d do that to any random kid without having to, and even promptly forget about that kid month laters.
And the thing is.. Gon isn’t really like that, he ain’t the messiah-like perfect idealistic shounen protag who help random people to unreasonable lengths because it’s the right/just thing to do, he’s actually someone who tends to obsess over his goals (becoming a hunter/meeting Ging), wasn’t concerned about being a good person who helps anybody no matter what(he only did so with his friends) and  actually didn’t give a fuck about strangers dying in the hunter exam, there’s actually a lot of analysises (and characters in HxH universe noticing it)  about Gons morality and him not really caring that much about right or wrong.
Like, obviously he does have some morals (everybody does unless you’re Pouf/Mineta Minoru), but the ‘right thing’ isn’t what pushed him into trying that hard to rescue Killua, it was more him considering Killua as someone really important to him and that’s what pushed me to want to understand his character. (and that was one of the first things that sold me into Killugon).
There’s actually a lot of instances where it’s shown that he really cares about Killua in particular, but that I overlooked because I considered him a generic shounen protag/thought he actually gave compliments easily.
Another example is the Dodgeball match, I won’t talk about the whole ‘wrecking-killua’s-hands’ thing because there’s 36 ways to interpret that scene and there’s too much of stuff that played into that, mainly Gon having faith in Killua’s abilities/Killua insisting he could take it and being worried about getting discarded/ Gon getting obsessive about his victory against Razor/it actually was an impulsive decision and Gon doesn’t know why he insisted/Gon finally asking somebody for help (aka Killua), so it’s too much of a mess for me to state an objective opinion (there probably isn’t one)
Ahem, so Razor actually attacked/attempted to kill a lot of people in the dodgeball match, first he killed someone from his team, Bobobo, which Gon asked about, then dropped the issue when given a reasonable explanation.
But during the match itself, Razor actually attempted to decapitate Goreinu and would have succeeded if not for Goreinu’s ability to switch with his nen beasts, he then attacked Tzesguera, and despite Tzesguera protecting himself with Ko he still ended up badly injured, then attacked Gon aiming for the head (and despite Gon using Ko in a small area he still got blasted into a wall), then Goreinu attacked Razor in payback and Razor badly injuried him in return, then Razor threw his ball in Killua’s direction which then switched to the right then went for Bisky and Hisoka who dodged by a hair then got targeted again by one of Razor’s devil and broke two fingers to protect his head.
What actually pisses off Gon ? The possibility Razor could have killed Killua, despite Razor having attempted to kill every player on Gon’s side and Killua not getting any injury.
Heck, a lot of them are on somewhat friendly term with Gon, we see from Tzesguera’s thoughts that they spent a lot of time training in sports (He says that while he have overall better combat ability, Killua and Gon have better agility and reflexes while we see an image with Gon going after a volley ball) Goreinu is a nice and friendly and helpful person and I actually got attached to him, and Bisky was his sensei during the whole GI arc.
My favorite interpretation for the ‘wrecking-Killua’s-hands’ and Gon insisting they stay on the offensive is that : they actually tried staying for the defensive/dodging in the first part of the match, and that led to what ? Killua almost getting killed. So the staying on the defensive/trying to dodge strategy was rejected because of that, because Killua getting his hands destroyed at least meant Killua’s life wasn’t in any danger. It’s dubious whether Gon thought something like that that fast but he actually canonically did so in the beginning of the Palace Invasion when Dragon Dive rained on them and he decided to attack Youpi because of the possibility of Knuckle and Meleoron staying invisible after  death, so him thinking quickly is actually pretty in-character.
There’s a lot of scenes establishing that Gon cares about Killua, but I mainly wanted to point out those that could be brushed off by the idea of ‘Gon acting like a generic shounen protag’
The second really alarming thing is that at the end of his fight against Pitou, Killua calls out Gon’s name again, Gon looks back at Killua, and we actually see Gon’s power creating a huge white explosion with Killua being in the radius, and that scene actually still confuse me because it’s really OOC for Gon to not give a fuck about whether Killua die of that or not ? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME.
Also, one of the reasons people got especially pissed at Gon is the line “since it’s none of your business” getting translated into “since it means nothing to you”, which would be a dick thing to say if only because it would be a callback to what Illumi said to Killua in ep 20 about Killua being unable to care about people/developing genuine relationship (and just 10x worse in general). Thank god it isn’t what Gon really said.
And my third and final point about how one might think Killugon is one-sided and that Gon doesn’t care as much as Killua does is actually a pretty legit worry for anime-only watchers. (WHY Madhouse, just why)
It’s the Killua & Gon’s separation scene.
Hear me out, after reading the manga I actually got less alarmed by that. (I have no idea how Madhouse could fuck this up this badly).
Starting by what got said
In the manga it’s Gon who expresses he wishes Killua would come to which Killua reply ‘maybe next time’. In the anime it’s Killua who expresses he want to go with Gon, but say that he have to watch over Alluka
Also one thing that extremely bothered me is when they turn away : in the anime Killua look sad, and Gon is sad for like 2s then immediately get a determined and hopeful expression and march his way confidently.
Also the whole ep 148 is alarming in general because Gon march happily to the world tree with an adventure ost playing, then we see him having flashbacks of his whole journey and…  We pratically don’t see Killua in those flashbacks, while Gon had a lot of flashback about a lot of people and of his whole journey, Killua is either just not there or ignored in the background.
Tumblr media
In the manga Gon’s expression is equally heartbroken when he turns around, and he ain’t overly adventurous/satisfied/happy, he just march to the damned tree, give a normal smile to the dude in there, show his hunter license and get to climbing the tree before having his reunion with Ging.
So I get why anime-only watchers might think Killugon is one-sided
@ichaquisitor (is it okay to randomly tag people ? How do you even human) so I continued binge-reading your meta, and holy shit you weren’t kidding, the amount of people asking if Killua resent Gon and if their friendship is still intact is alarming, so as someone who was not okay with Gon’s attitude then changed to “ow poor kid” I decided I’d write about the reasons about why people might think that way.

My Hero Academia Chapter 209 Review
Well now, we’ve entered the home stretch of this arc. Going in to this last fight, I myself have a few jitters. Will this chapter cure that? Lets find out.
Tumblr media
So we open on team Bakugou at the end of their matches, finding out it only took five minutes. Wow, we know Vlad is the one announcing so that must just be a real salt in the wound for his class. Though, I think team Tokage is walking away with minimal injury and no robo medics showing them out, so I just that’s a win.
Tumblr media
So we get the teacher advice and performance reviews and with what Vlad tells team Tokage, I feel as if I need to address this. So last week, I made my stance clear, I was fine with Bakugou winning. As Vlad is saying here, their strategy failed as it was built around a different Bakugu, and they ended up spreading themselves too thin. Now, I will say though, what the fourth round lacked, is any reflection from 1-b. Oh sure, there was Tokage in the sky panicking, but unlike the other matches, there really was a lack of seeing class 1-b react and try to roll with this, even if it would be futile.
I know, let sleeping dogs lie, but I honestly was getting miffed at the tone of last week being, either “Bakugou is so great, you under estimated him,” or “Bakugou is an ass, and Class 1-b shouldn’t have been hyped at all.” So I’d like to say that I’m taking a middle ground and just saying as a fight it was great for Bakugou in terms of character development, but ultimately as an actual clash, it was sorely one-sided.
Tumblr media
Speaking of team Tokage, them at least are pretty good sports over their loss. Kaminari is also on the side to congratulate Bakugou and of course needing to remind the shippers of his and Jirou’s relationship. Also, I’m assuming what Sero is talking about is when he lifted up Bakugou with his tape.
Tumblr media
We see All Might congratulate Bakugou and he of course decides to act like a serious tsundere and act like this is nothing. Even though we know how he feels about All Might and thus meaning, he’s likely a little giddy on the inside. Also props to the comedy with Deku, that Bakugou’s anger at this point is just reflex.
Tumblr media
We get that relationship progression scene with Deku and Bakugou, and don’t get me wrong, from a character stand point this is good, but from an average reader stand point, it feels like I’m watching the scene from the training before the license exam. You know, the one where Bakugou wondered if Deku was still going to try and surpass him. Granted this version is in a different context as we know Bakugou is now the one playing catch up with Midoriya in terms of being a hero. I’m just pointing out that this slow progression relationship definitely feels like it’ll take a while longer.
We actually do get a page that’s mostly blank, and textless to obviously add emphasis of just how important this moment was and is allowing the audience to digest it. Now I’m not posting it mainly cause I don’t wanna take up more space than I need with these reviews. But I wanna definitely that this is very appreciated in terms of pacing, because you have series like One Piece that pack itself with so much content you actually need just to have a chapter long breather rather than just a short single page one. It just really makes me happy to see that MHA is at a point where it can do this well.
Tumblr media
We cut to team Monoma who Tokage is apologizing to because with her loss there is no way they can win. To which I’m going to take this moment and say yeah, you can’t. Alright this is just a mini-rant I have, but I really hope this match doesn’t end with team Deku losing and the final score being 2-2. That would be such BS, as what this arc is basically built on is A vs B, someone has to win or else you basically wasted almost 20+ chapters on this arc and it was all pointless. Now some have said that if they tie, class 1-b will still be around and this will clearly show them as a force on their own, as this arc will have gotten their characterization out there so we don’t have to shove it into the moment.
The problem is though, that still doesn’t fix the arc of being pointless. Say what you will about the provisional license exam or the gentle arc, but at the end of the arc, there was a point to each of them that was established and fulfilled. The class got licensees and Eri was free of Overhaul’s influence. That’s what the arcs were about, that’s what we got. But if no one wins and no one loses, then this entire arc was a big waste of time. What is the point of a fight if there is no winner or loser? I think we give shit to the Grand Magic Games in FT a lot, but the point of the arc was to win and get the guild’s popularity back, which it followed through on, and Black Clovers tournament was really a  selection for the royal knights, which means that if the main character lost, there was still a pay off to it.
Now, if you go by saying that this arc isn’t about the fight and is more about Deku and Shinsou meeting and discovering what’s up with those visions of All for One’s brother talking to him, then this arc should’ve been altered. Because that would mean that only now are we doing what matters for the arc. There is basically no way to end this ultimately satisfyingly, because if team Deku does win, that ends this arc at 3-1, which makes class 1-a look like a group of jackasses who steam rolled class 1-b. But I’l take that over its a tie, I don’t wanna feel like I just wasted 3 months on this for just this fight.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Monoma gives an impassioned speech that really shows a layer of his character that isn’t shown. While he’s often made a joke by his irrational hatred, Monoma is very much a theatrical man. Now I don’t mean that he’s flamboyant like Aoyama, rather he’s just a guy who sees the world a stage and is gonna bask in it. We saw this really early in the sports fest and a little bit with what he chose their culture fest project to be.
Tumblr media
We end this monologue with Yanagi basically asking monoma what the point of this is, which means I already like her cause we’re actually getting some more characterization than we did with team Tokage.
We also get Shoda here, putting the pieces of their strategy togethe, telling us that their powers are techincal based. Likely meaning they aren’t directly combat based, but they all have skills that give them a lot of options.
Yanagi also speculates on Midoriya, calling him “hateful,” to which Shoda points out that Yanagi kinda speaks her own langue. Which is a cool trait that at first might seem like overlap with Shiozaki. However, when Shiozaki would act melodramatic it was out of religious vindication, Yanagi just has her own way of talking.
…Wait… What’s that? …Ahh, I’m getting word that a female character actually mentioned Deku’s name, thus she has been admitted into the Dekubowl.
Tumblr media
We start more speculation on Midoriya and I think it’s coming from Shoda, showing that he’s clearly the analytical member of the team. Shinsou says that they need to beat down Midoriya first.
Now look, I actually really enjoy this as the way everyone is speaking of Deku and actually take him as a serious threat. Now I now there are some who have said, “team Deku should lose so that he develops from this.” To which I say, fuck off. Deku isn’t like someone like Natsu who basically could bamf his way through everything up to his fight with Gildarts, so when he lost it was a big deal. But Deku, dude loses like crazy and grows form it. Aside from the physical damage, the kid in the first few arcs barely got a win on his own, most of it was done with teamwork, with im learning for now he had to be the strategist. He didn’t finish at the top of the sports festival by Bakugou, he needed help against Stain, the first fight I think he won on his own was against Muscular, and let me remind you that destroyed both of his arms.
So I its only after 200 chapters, Deku is only now actually being treated as I’d expect a shounen protag to be treated, a massive threat. For the longest time his big quality was he had the heart of a hero, but that always ended with a shattered body. So he wasn’t really that powerful. And only now is is signs of progress really starting to affect other characters especially outside of class. So if Deku loses here, I’m gonna think that this wasn’t a big, “learn from loss character development moment,” I’m thinking it be a set back for him. Still team Deku could still lose if Mina, Mineta, or Uraraka get captured and as a whole they fail. Now there is a potential for Deku to fail, but I’ll talk about that in a little bit.
Also Shinsou asks Monoma that if they combine their quirks then they could pin down Deku. Now the images behind Monoma imply that potentially, Monoma would use copy on One for All and will end up destroying his body. Now That seems to be the implication, however there is the possibility that Monoma could also copy Shinsou’s quirk and then surprise everyone by answering him. But come on, we wanna see Monoma with one for all.
The teachers actually comment on Shinsou and wonder if he’ll pull through in this fight like he did the first round.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We cut to team Deku with everyone trying to figure out what their going to do, and unlike team Bakugou, they seems pretty downtrodden and realize that they don’t exactly have the same all-aroundness that team Bakugou had. However, instead of team Bakugou where Bakugou was the center of the team who protected and attacked, Deku is instead opting as a decoy, leet them focus on him, and then pick them off.
We also need to point out, they are laying it on thick with Deku’s quirk having some issues. If what ultimately screws up Deku is his quirk crapping out on him, then that’ll kinda fee like some narrative manipulation, but at the same time, one for all is such a strange quirk in this world, I wouldn’t doubt it could just screw up against Deku’s will. So we might have some flags going up with potential failure.
Tumblr media
I love how even Mineta realized that Deku’s had character development up to this point. Anyway the match begins, but this isn’t the end of the chapter, oh no.
All Might needs to be excused after a call from Gran Torino.
Tumblr media
We cut to the cell of All for One himself. He reminds us that Giantomachia has appeared. And unlike the league, this guy is loyal directly to him.
Tumblr media
Welp, All for One knows about One for All and likely that vestige stuff. I mean,it’s not too much of a surprise at it came from All for One’s brother. Anyway, pants to be darkened.
Post Chapter Follow up: So I’m going to say, there’s nothing wrong with this chapter at all. Its a pretty standard breather chapter, but my greatest fears are more of what is to come than what has been actually in the chapter. Now I can’t condemn a chapter for not doing something that it isn’t time for, but as you can see the anxiousness is cranked up going into this.
On the positives, my personal favorite thing about this chapter is the character interaction in team Monoma. It’s something we sorely lacked from team Tokage, but now it feels like this making up for that. We see More to Monoma as a character individually, as well as Yanagi and Shoda really showing of what they’re like as characters. Nothing from Yui yet, but she could be like Bondo and that’s the point. As for class 1-A, this group of characters are pretty used to bouncing of eachother, so it’s nothing new. That said, I do enjoy the interactions regardless.
The continuing relationship of Bakugou and Deku is great and I’m glad Horikoshi is committed to the long run with this relationship. Also I’m just happy that we got some good pacing built around it without it feeling inconvenient.
Also appearance from All for One, which already makes this even better and furthers the Giantmachia plot,.
Final Verdict: 7/10
Good breather chapter
Awesome character interactions
Foreshadowing of future events are getting set

what are your thoughts www(.)fanfiction(.)net/s/12667631/2/30-Ways-to-kill-Ragna-The-Bloodedge ,www(.)fanfiction(.)net/s/12667631/3/30-Ways-to-kill-Ragna-The-Bloodedge , www(.)fanfiction(.)net/s/12667631/4/30-Ways-to-kill-Ragna-The-Bloodedge
Oh jesus this is uh- something...
You guys just see me as a cleaner for the haters I fanbases don’t you?Well, this is a really fucking ridiculous thing so guess I’ll do it.
Let’s separate this into parts so the arguments are cohesive:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REBEL 1:
“Do you seriously want an exaggerated anti-hero with little justification, people around him going against his theme and faced with the most evil villains while tearing away the madness he faces?”Yes. Because the world of Blazblue along with all those people around Ragna help support him and make him stand out. Also how is Ragna exaggerated? If he’s exaggerated then what is Guts from Berserk?!
“Then I pretty much made a good argument about why Ragna as a protagonist shouldn’t have his existence acknowledged and be renamed ‘Retard the Dumbedge’“
...Yeah, you’re an obnoxious little shit aren’t you? I don’t see any argument good enough to justify THAT childish behavior. Even Kirito isn't that bad.
“Ragna is said to act like your average Shounen protagonist but he doesn’t even after his character development.”Um...No, Ragna acts like the dull edgy anti-heroes we got in the 90′s. He only LOOKS like a Shounen Protag. And after his character development he kind of does act like a Shounen Protag but in a good way, doing his best to help people and do what is best for them. He pretty killed himself for that goal. What is this guy smoking?
“The characters don't work with Ragna OR with the story that blazblue is trying to tell.”Uh...How? Because all I see is what RWBY originally was: a Rule Of Cool story with an emphasis on good eventually triumphing over evil.
“Ragna is an insult to the “Traditional Hero” for being called a “Chosen One”“
Hey Dumbass, the chosen one trope is used in ALL KINDS of stories, not just traditional hero ones. And Ragna ISN’T suppose to be a traditional hero, he’s suppose to GROW UP into one.
Now onto the next argument-and it’s a copy paste from a previous ask. Okay, the Blazblue ask I had before this one? go read that one for this argument.
“Blazblue’s exaggerated characterization,  unnecessary protagonist, characters that focus on one major role, characters that could have been toned down and UNNECESSARY SEXUALIZATION (comparing it to RWBY) don’t work with Blazblue’s flawed story.”You have not proven any of this, many people like it SPECIFICALLY for this reason, it was the goal of the creators and they succeeded so in every regard you fail.(P.S. Monty Oum was a fan of blazblue dumbass. If RWBY has oversexualization [An idiotic statement by itself] it was probably FROM Blazblue.)
“After the backlash on my rant on Blazblue’s writing and how I will never...NEVER acknowledge Ragna’s existence to this day, even after four failed games.”A. Your rant is barely coherent, nevermind actually GOOD.B. You just acknowledged Ragna’s existence.
And C. Blazblue is almost as famous as fucking Guilty Gear. It’s not failure.
”I do believe Arcsys has left itself in the slammer for letting itself down with this crap.”Take your medication, you’re having delusions again.
“They could’ve seen previous media and make the story light hearted and not rip off guilty gear and make it worse.”*throws a copy of End Of Evangelion at his face* Like that story?
“And fire Mori from the reboot of Blazblue THAT I WANT! NOT THIS!”
Yeah- good luck with that.
“if you’re ‘pissed off’ while reading this, then accept it as fact. I will be on your good side, nothing will grind your gears. Now, that something we all want in this fandom with me around. Nuff said.”
*glares* Oh fuck off you facist.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REBEL 2:
“*shotguns Ragna in the head and burst out in blood and bones*”Hey RWDE, you forgot one of your Jaune haters!
“AN: Oh, so is this the case then? How disappointing. I was expecting much of a reasoning from all of you, but all get is cynical backlash over how much of a dumbass I am.“Hey if the glove fits man.
“Now, I'm really not into Anime & Manga where a lot of tropes I see are very exaggerating, but come on already. You know how much hate darker, edgier, and brutal characters that believe they are badass, yet their misunderstood that term a lot. And I mean, A LOT.“Yeah and guess what? Ragna gets mocked for that and has to change against that to get respect.“Think about Kirby from Hoshi No Kaabi. He is a badass that can copy/paste other dudes into his will by swallowing them. After viewing the whole series as a kid, it's got wondering about what other sources of fiction I would see. I watched DragonBall Z, I watched Naruto, and I watched Ace Attorney.  But then came BlazBlue, and my god. I bet I know what you're thinking. "If BlazBlue ain't for you, buddy. Then take a step back from the red line or you're toast."“
Well yeah, that’s how fandoms work dumbass. also I don’t care about your experiences.
“The mind is a very interesting concept I'm learning here. Not only do many people in this series is very individualistic, but cynical and self-biased as well. And you wanna know the reason? Is it Ragna? Is the exaggerated tropes in the series? Is it the convoluted nature of the series? Is it my overwhelming backlash towards the series? Or is it my fanfiction story that received so much backlash all because I wanted to replace a character that had the same "backstory"?  Because I'm talking about the one asshole who was in charge of the whole series, the one who clearly wasted his own potential for nothing. It is going to be Japanese writer Toshimichi Mori.“
Oh gee, individualism. How terrible for a fascist like you. Also I highly doubt people are THAT cynical given the popularity of the Gag Reels and Bang Shishigami.
Also the backlash has everything to do with you jack ass. But sure, try blaming the creator for your own baggage. THAT hasn’t backfired before right?
“Now let's take a step back for a moment, shall we? Doesn't Mori ever love to take things down the roof? Does he love to put things into perspective like a Vase, then overwhelmingly shove Vases down our throats to show how amazingly complex they really are?”
The first thing Mori talked about with Bullet was her boobs. ... I’m pretty sure he just likes blowing shit up and making stuff that looks entertaining, especially considering the Astral Finishes, the basic character tropes written in their purest forms and characters like Bang.
It ain’t that deep, douchebag.
“You see, Daisuke was a very successful man in Arc Sys. He's written quite literally the best story out of all time, Guilty Gear. But then, one day, he decided to put his story on hiatus. Then asshole Mori shows up to take the advantage on him, and literally took his concept to the next level.”Isn’t Sol Badguy literally a self insert for the creator? Yeah I think Guilty Gear is just the same as Blazblue but with a different way going about things. So basically you’re a pissy Guilty Gear fanboy? Good to know.
“But goddamn, did that fail. A lot of people were brainwashed into thinking his work is awesome and full of depth, and sadly. It doesn't. Mori character concepts are great, but that doesn't exclude his idea of a "protagonist".“
Yeah because people like you think that it has to be brainwashing and not that your egos are disproportionately big and fragile.
Now, a protagonist is the lead character, not a hero. That's true. However, they are many flaws to this concept. One is, the protagonist has to fit the tone of the story being presented here. However, what doesn't make logical sense, is that BlazBlue is supposed to represent a cynical crapsack world that's revived by someone who throws his life like a badass and the day is saved. But unfortunately, the other characters who manage to take the spotlight act differently. That's right. They don't CARE about what the tone is from BlazBlue, they just act all non-nonchalant from the so-called "gag reels" and they are barely mentioned ever in the series fandom. Then we randomly shift from one setting to the next, when all of this couldn't have been solved by just staying the one final spot where they were.“
... Okay so he completely missed the point of a protagonist. Also: no fucking duh. The characters are different because they are different PEOPLE dumbass. PEOPLE aren’t a fucking hivemind. Also I find it hard to say Blazblue is THAT cynical given how the final game is one big triumph for idealism. Also not only are the gag reels SUPPOSE to have a different tone but the fanbase LOVES them.
Also that setting one is just-wrong.
“But uhen we have the main villain, who is said by legends to be the most barbaric and most vile creature ever to be exaggerated off the face of fiction. His archenemy is not the knight, but sour ass protagonist we see in this series. Isn't it ashamed that this battle couldn't have been awesome if a protagonist with a kind-hearted soul were to step up and stop this beast? Nope. We never get. Probably, not in a long shot we ain't.”
A. Yeah and Terumi OWNS that concept. Hence why people love him.B. Ragna stopped being an asshole a game and a half ago. There’s a reason why Tao’s nickname for him is “Nice Guy.”
C. The guy literally erased himself from reality so things could be better. Ragna the Bloodedge is everything characters like Ruby Rose aspire to be.
“And do the games improve dramatically from game play perspective? Nope, each and every game is the same. There are no group battles, it's always 2D, and new characters don't make it different. It's a lazy way of getting the game to be new, but it doesn't feel different from me by any means necessary.“Group battles? That;s a spectacle fighter dumbass! And yeah, new characters DO matter. As in, that’s what Fighting Games are based off you idiot.
“o hate how most of the fighting game concepts were ripped solely off from Guilty Gear. It's like if Mori looked at Daisuke's work by demand and copied off everything that didn't add up from before. That's just not right. It certainly makes more angrier and upset to see Mori put his series like that. What a joke.
Somebody whose played Guilty Gear deal with this.
“Then we have BlazBlue Radio, featuring the ugly protagonist sitting next to two beautiful girls. Now may I remind you, I'm not against every single character in the series, except the protagonist and the evil monster. The protagonist gets the biggest spotlight cause I have quite literally, have the biggest boner to pick with him.“
So basically you’re jealous that Ragna gets the girls? Makes sense.
“ I never recognize his existence. Never have. The series has been a colossal heap of mish-mash concepts mixed in with anime drama tropes. Yet, a lot of people in the series don't recognize that. All of which ruined by poor planning and an occupied existence. This has been no exception because I talk to about being against the series as a fact, was a backlash of them showing me how great and awesome it truly is. And that's like talking to a brick here. I'm not braindead guy who suffers from mental retardation who has to live in an asylum for petes sake.”
A. You just did idiot.B. That;s not a bad thingC. people LOVE IT for being a mix mash.D. That argument makes no sense.E. So the complainer is wrong? Good to know I can just ignore you then. And F. That’s an oddly specific example...
“If you want to keep this up with me, then fine. Go right ahead. Build up as much anger as you can until my head ESPLODE. You stick your asses on this franchise, believe it to be some kind god for the whole Arc Sys works, and never again mention a protagonist replacement or a reboot. Cause I'm being clear, this series will never EVER improve. It's all the same shit, different story. And that different story is barely any better from all the crap I've seen from the characters. Nuff said. Peace out.”
Yeah yeah, the usual egotistical hater shtick. You ain’t special.
“P.S. If you're going to say that my stupid ass that brought me here ruined everything or is making you more frustrated. Then believe me, it's pointless to post a review or PM to say that I suck or my logic is ass. And I won't jolt. Ever.”
You say that but I know from experience you people break easily...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REBEL 3:
“*Places Ragna in a blender and he gets shredded bit by bit, piece by piece until his ass was nothing*“Because this screams “SANITY!”
“AN: Time to get this crap out of the roll...  Okay, so there's a lot of media I'm craving to look for. Of course, sometimes, media doesn't just cut for many audiences, via demographics. And I've seen video games and anime do this a lot, especially seinen. Then I played anime video games/visual novels... Ace Attorney, Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Guilty Gear, Trails/Kieseki, and last but most hated of all time. BlazBlue.“So you know why you’re full of shit but you ignore it and keep going? Okay.
“I know what you're thinking, people. Like I really would love to admit, but people have been pulverizing me over my head saying how shit I was to an argument over a franchise that just screams out "FICTION". But no... People point out my hatred for Ragna The Bloodedge. A character that's unique to me in one way of the direction. In BlazBlue, a post-apocalyptic world that's nothing but trouble and people being dicks for crap reasons. Has anyone ever noticed that there is no "real" hero to the story? It's easy. BECAUSE PEOPLE WORSHIP RAGNA THE BLOODEDGE LIKE HE'S SOME SORT OF "ANTI-SUE". A flawed character that gets way too much attention! And Ragna gets all that crap like he's some kind of gold-digger.“
Ragna killed Blazblue’s Satan. ... He’s uh, kind of a hero no matter what you say. Also Noel, Makoto, Jin, Jubei, Hakuman, Tsubaki, Kagura, Celica-We have plenty heroes.
“As much as I really loved the characterization and all that, Ragna ruins the experience for me. I'm not kidding, he really freaking does! He's not even a character, in my book. Let alone a dumbass that can't do anything right because he was trained by someone strong, has a vampire ally/rival and beats out on other things like an impatient chimpanzee. Because hey! That's his character, folks! Ragna isn't Ragna without his edgy, dark past despite it having no emotional value what-so-ever. GODDAMMIT.“A. Rachel isn’t a rival dumbass. And B. He LITERALLY got called out on that shit with Kagura in Chronophantasma and had to become more heroic in order to become a stronger fighter and a better person.
Oh, C. He STILL sacrificed himself for all his friends and family. I do not joke when I saw he’d be Ruby Rose’s idol.
“AND DON'T YOU BRING BANG SHISHIGAMI TO THIS RANT. Bang doesn't count as a hero in my book, he's better off as a supporting character. ALL I WANT FOR THE SERIES TO HAVE IS A REAL HERO. Not this Redcoat wearing jackass that always gets his way done no matter how much he pulls. The story is supposed to be "Black and White". NOT "BLACK AND GRAY"! Sure, there can be some vital exceptions. BUT I DON'T SEE A SINGLE, UTMOST THING, THAT HAS EVER CAME OUT OF BLAZBLUE THAT NEVER CHANGED MY MIND. EVER.”
A. Bang still counts motherfucker, you said ‘hero’ not ;major character’.
B. Hakuman’s right there trying to stab Ragna. C. No it’s suppose to be grey and gray. Mori built it that way. This is his story, not yours.
And D. So you know you’re wrong.
“Keep coming back to me! I don't effing care where it is. You rant, you whine, you even tell me to leave, but no... That all that isn't going to happen. I will be back and in one story... You'll that it is me that's returning. I won't bother arguing about this again. Sure, I've could've talked this through by PM'ing, but "Black and White" morality is always going to my thing. But hey, Fanfiction is all about tryharding! You use canonically made characters to achieve a thing that's worth a damn!  Anyways, I got back from my awesome trip to California. Nuff said.”
And guess what motherfucker? I’ll be right here, challenging and fighting you every step of the way! Each time you scream about Canon, I’ll be there to tear it down. Each time you rant about canon, I’ll be there to cut it pieces. This is gonna be a battle of wills between you and I. And guess what? My will is damn near indomitable. Good luck jackass.
But let me send you off, Blazblue style.

1. Oh, I wasn't talking about Gohan. I meant Gon from HxH. Goku is entertaining? Well, for comedy relief maybe. I always thought he fell really flat. Vegeta was way more entertaining. 2. Yes but my whole point was that I WANT characters who actually react appropriately to the situation and even get mental disorders depending on what is going on? I never said it was happening. Because it isn't. 3.Well, I'm sick of reading about one-dimensional characters. There's no reason why a character (1)
Goku is entertaining in the original dragon ball series not in DBZ, both Bulma and Krillin are better characters in the original series too. Vegeta is only entertaining during the Freiza saga, he’s kinda boring after that.
How is Gon flat? Normally he has a typical cheerful and goofy shonen protag demeanour, but he’s also selfish, and when he screwed up, he looked for someone to blame and acted like he’s the only victim. “It’s easy for you Killua, you don’t feel anything”. He’s basically a little bitch when real shits happened and he couldn’t handle it.
You know what, if you want 15 year old react realistically to situations, the protag would shit their pants and run away when they face a world ending threat. And if they do get PTSD, and if you want it to be handled realistically, they would be put on medication and they would not be allowed to go out there to fight again, and there it’s the end of their role in a battle manga.
can’t have mental issues and and participate in “action, adventure and heroism”, is there now? We have so many bland shounen main characters one would think people would have gotten sick of them now. Confidence? Show me confidence but also show me how it bites them in the ass. Show me how that character feels about his confidence being responsible for his best friends death. Use that shit to give me a story. Luffy regularly brings his friends into shitty situations and never even thinks (2)
We also have so many emotional and whiny shonen characters, one would think people would have gotten sick of them now. Isn’t the popularity of OPM evidence that people are tired of angst ridden characters and want the opposite of those type of characterization? Confidence isn’t a bad trait, why should they be punished for it? If you’re talking about overcondifence and underestimating the opponents, we have loads of characters like that, they’re just more often antagonists and deuteragonists. It’s literally vegeta’s character in every saga lol, being cocky, then having his ass handed to him. This stuff is also absurdly common in sport anime.
seriously about the fact that one of them might die even after Ace. Why can’t he still go into dangerous situations while thinking about it? Or at least after having seriously thought about it? Character flaws are not the problem. Light have dozens of those but he’s not annoying. The annoying part is the fact that they always feel the need to make the characters “relatable” but just end up making them whine about minor things. Even that I wouldn’t mind if other characters told them off. Sure (3)
Naruto always brabbles about himself because he’s a self-centered asshole but couldn’t other people just shut him up? If people had reacted appropriately to his whining, seeing him try again and again just to get shot down would have been hilarious instead of infuriating. I’m so sick of characters getting mary-sued… 4. Yeah, I think Naruto is hilarious to watch. He’s such a mess. He’s nowhere close to a “hero”. But his whining is hilarious. It’s like watching a comedy. Like I said: I just (4)
I don’t think Luffy can think seriously even if he tries, thinking is usopp and Law’s speciality, they can’t all be the same. Zoro and Law both told Luffy off at some point, Usopp got into fight with Luffy multiple times because they disagree.
To me, Naruto’s whining is like people whining on facebook and tumblr about their personal “issues”, it’s banal. He whines about the stuff that everyone whines about.
Luffy and so on. I want… different characters. I don’t even care if they start boring like every other Shounen Hero if they have enough character development. If they react appropriately to the situation. I’m sick of characters where everything just… washed off. Like they’re resistant against water or something. What’s wrong with PTSD? The amount of times I’ve seen even inklings of it (and never acknowledged in canon are ridiculously small, considering the shit shounen heroes go through (5)
Like I said, realistic PTSD and depression mean the characters would be missing from action for an extended period of time, and that’s not an option for long running shonen series. Unless you want to see that character continue to take part in fights, ignore their condition and get killed as a result. This can only be done to expensable characters.  Maybe you should read seinen, and non battle manga if you want that kinda characterization. People do not read shonen battle manga to see a character spending a whole arc recovering from depression. There’re other genres better suited for that. Characters with mental illness can be one dimensional too, a mental illness doesn’t necessarily improve a character.
When you said “washed off”, what do you exactly mean? Luffy did react to Ace’s death realistically, he grieved rather extravagantly tbh. But life goes on, it’s the same as in real life, effects of events do wash off and fade. There’re characters who quit after one particular bad game or an injury, characters who walk away from fights after losing a nakama, they’re just not main characters because main characters don’t quit. There’s limits to how much you let your main characters sulk. There’s a lot of bitching from the fans when the MC in yowapeda cannot perform after one of his senpai left, I thought it’s too much forced drama too, he just left the country, he didn’t die. This is not like Tiger Woods losing his father.

Now this really interests me; 🔥 on Takumi Aldini
HOW DARE YOU EVEN TRY AND INSINUATE THAT THIS WONDROUS CHEESEBALL CAN BE ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECT IN MY EYES
but in all seriousness there’s really….nothing about his character that I can talk bad about when the majority of the fandom drags him through the mud enough + he barely gets any good development in canon as it is lmao /sideeyes
instead though, have this unpopular opinion: Takumi’s loss to Mimasaka was, and i admit this bitterly, a good move on Tsukada sensei’s part. This is for two main reasons: a) It acted as a stepping stone for Takumi’s character development. We all already know that Takumi was set up as Souma’s rival, even equal to him in skills. So to have him meet a setback at such a crucial stage in such a humiliating manner was a really good way to push him to grow as a character, while Souma continues to grow with other shokugekis. It’s just…a pity we got that development ~120 chapters later aaand the actual process of development lasted for one (1) single chapter. You can argue that he could be seen to have improved in previous chapters from background info but i demand explicit exposition and stages of development, dammit. He’s supposed to be a main rival, right? Right???b) It boosted the Shokugeki’s theme of ‘92nd Generation’s growth revolves around the wild card Yukihira Souma’ or ‘Souma’s (actions have an) insanely large influence over the 92nd Generation’ that the Autumn Election arc was really, really highlighting. AE arc was basically certain characters showcasing their ‘new’ styles of cooking, thanks to Souma’s guidance and influence (aka Megumi and Nikumi). So the fact that Souma could break Takumi out of his depressive episode through showing him his way of cooking/overcoming Mimasaka and the monologue at the end directed at Mimasaka (but was storywise POV at the whole Generation/audience, really) was a pretty neat way of tying the ribbon on the theme, showing how expansive Souma’s influence can get. Lifehack: don’t spend thousands of dollars on a psychologist kids, just get your ass handed to you then listen to a pep talk by a shounen cooking manga protag.

hunty x hunty cont
soooo we watched more! woohoo
we finished the hunter exam arc???? i THNK? lmaoooo at the end of the ep (21 i thiiiiink) we were on, satotz was like BUT THE HUNTER EXAM ISNT EVEN OVER YET or w/e lol aigh??? whats up w/that
anyways a lot happened in the last few eps that we watched....man i shouldve written this earlier but i litrelly havent been online. anyways
so during the hunter exam stage 4...gon is literally perfect (as i always have to say), him reuniting w/leorio and kurapika was rlly sweet :’)
of course he immediately offered to help....goodest boy
and wow that kid has such a powerful nose bvhjksfbjsk he rlly be a gr8 sniffer
ok literally the part where leorio was in the cave and was like GON KURAPIKA DONT COME IN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they both full speed sprint into the cave with 0 hesitation.....we love a 0 brain cells family
i love leorio so much he really just b running around w/a switchblade and a breifcase, both of which he barely used during the exam lmao
so bummed that leorio slicing up tht snake happened offscreen. how tf did that even work, he doesnt have a goddamn sword
gon just being able to hold his breath for almost 10 mins makes so much sense somehow...he rlly is one of those shounen protags who is just casually a ridiculous human being and doesnt even fully realize that its weird
that shot of him carrying everyone out of the cave was so sweet
and of course gon vs snakes....hes so perfect....he trusts his friends so much :’)
also random aside but im so glad tonpa is out and idk if i talked abt this in my prev post but i feel like in most shounen he wouldve been like, so inspired by gons shounen protag energy that he wouldve changed his tune and taken the exam genuinely and either passed or declared that hed definitely pass next year - but no, he was awful til the end, this aint that kind of story (yet...?)
have i mentioned that i hate hisoka? cause i hate hisoka. nasty ass crusty clown bitch
what else happened in the phase 4 stuff. oh yeah killua clowned on those triplet dudes (and hanzo lowkey), which was great
ok the opening not having changed this whole time is so funny. imagine if it never changed and its still basic and cheery when everything gets crazy and dark lmao
ooh my god i forgot to mention this last time but i feel like gons backpack is full of hair gel and hair gel ONLY, he only brought hair gel and his fishing rod. this is canon ty
oh gosh when killua and gon reunited at the end of the 4th stage....OOOUGH so precious...those two are so cute god. i want a compilation of their cute moments together i hope that exists
GOD OH FUCK the scene on the airship where kurapika and gon talked bc gon was clearly bothered by something (what happened w/hisoka obvs. i hate that clown bitch) and OUGHHHH OH GOD gon crying LICHRALLY killed me oh man :( i was literally just chanting NO NO NO!!!! at the TV cause seeing tiny baby boy upset was so sad....and ik it gets soooo much worse oh god i cant handle it
the whole convo was really good and really anti-shounen (once again...feel like thatll be a theme lmao) bc like, it was a healthy convo where gon talked honestly abt his feelings instead of using some shounen protag BS phrases like ‘it doesnt matter!!! ill be stronger next time!!!’ or w/e....and kurapika is a such a good parent oh man :(
again, cant get over how genuine and uncomplicated the teamup of the main 4 characters has been....literally no ‘we’re competing and only teaming up for convenience/the hunter exam comes before our friendship’ nonsense
did anything else happen on the airship. ider
anyways. can i talk abt illumi now. CAN I TALK ABT ILLUMI NOW. H8 THAT BITCH.
ok wait back up theres other stuff
the interviews w/the candidates was interesting! i love how the old dude was SO not picking up what Creepy Hisoka was putting down lmaooooo
that poor old guy lmao he seems like a decent dude, he was like oh i dont wanna fight gon and killua cause theyre kids,....RIP u red shirt legend
the bracket setup was so interesting oh man....very funky and creative. and then it wasnt really fully utilized lol, i feel like thats indicative of a bigger patten - hxh so far has been really creative and interesting, and clearly uninterested in setting things up simply to check off boxes on a shounen tropes checklist....i can already see what makes it so great if this keeps up bc daym, so many shounen have their interesting themes drowned out by the overwhelming necessity for the plot to hit certain shounen story beats, smothering otherwise new/fresh ideas and rerouting them back into the same old over-trodden shounen trope territory
on a meta level, i wonder if the author was like, allowed more leniency (’do whatever bro’) bc hed already been successful w/yu yu hakusho. i havent seen/ready yyh so idk how ‘typically shounen’ it is but thats st that im curious about
aaanyways. the tournament starts w/hanzo beating up gon for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. jesus dude. so yeah obviously leorio and kurapika are the best parents ever and them getting so righteously angry over seeing this happen to gon is so heartwarming and good and also a big big mood
they love their son okay. also that was fucked up. ALSO i find it interesting that thats only the second time we’ve seen kurapikas eyes turn red
i bet that hisoka saw that also and somethign something phantom troupe, see bottom of post in predictions section
seeing gon get beat up like that made my heart hurt :( especially when hanzo broke his arm...oof.
god also i cant believe hanzo is 18 hes literally bald hvbhjafbjs whats w/hxh and making everyone a teen or younger lmao god
also omfg i love that leorio and kurapika are lichreally 19 and already have kids wow thats amazing especially considering their kids are 12. its so funny that theyre such Parents already considering that the age gap is kinda hilariously small, espec bc i thought that they (mostly leorio) were a lot older at first lmao
the fact that gon gets to win that fight against hanzo was a legit shock to me....again, anti-shounen. we’d normally want to see what our protag can do in a fight - espec in a tournament-style arc where the consequences arent as high typically - so we’d want him to go further, which is easy here bc to move on he has to lose, which is easy bc gon is a baby w/no offensive capabilities (that we’ve seen)
god ive talked abt this already but its so fascinating how we havent really had any full-on fights???? espec w/the main 4 characters????? we still barely know what they can do....WE STILL HAVENT BEEN INTRODUCED TO NEN????
ive been spoiled (i guess?) to the existence of nen but thats abt it. what can it do? what is it? fuck if i know lmao. so i could totally see them pulling a ‘we were using nen the whole time’ w/like hisoka or st, OR a ‘YOU were using nen the whole time w/out realizing it’ w/gon
ok anyways. that hanzo fight was rough but also gon is literally the best. he was trying to bargain w/hanzo to figure out a way where they could come to a conclusion that would satisfy them both - despite hanzo clearly outmatching gon in skill, so the effort on hanzo’s part would be pointless and simply for gon’s benefit....basically the entire proposal sound ludicris and insulting to suggest (or st, idk how to phrase it), but since its gon of COURSE he only has the purest of intentions and means it so genuinely that you cant even be mad at him
hanzo just knocking him out lmaoooo and then hes just out for the rest of the tournament???? thats so wild and...whatdya know....un-shounen!
then he wakes up n his lil x-shaped forehead bandage....ough so cute
also the whole convo he and satotz had abt gon’s victory and hunter license and earning/deserving it was so good :’)
also i feel like the show did a good job of humanizing characters like satotz. i legit thought he was a robot or st at first but it feels more like hes just A Guy now,....albeit a weird guy, but thats to be expected. its like, yeah this guy also took the hunter exam at one point, wow.
anways this is already long and i havent even gotten to the killua stuff yet lol so im gonna stop here for now. and introducing a new segment..........the prediction corner! where i dump my speculations/predictions, entirely for my future self’s benefit
PREDICTIONS:
first off as i alluded to above, i think that hisoka has some sort of connection to the phantom troupe (does he know them? maybe not, but he knows where to find them? idk) and when he saw kurapikas red eyes, was able to figure out that whole deal and said st to kurapika during that fight like ‘hey i can help you find the phantom troupe if you want :))))’
i kinda said this earlier but i predict that kurapika might get really wrapped up in revenge and go off the rails a bit. we’ll see, so far that hasnt really happened, but for some reason i kinda think that it will? we’ll see
i (incorrectly) predicted that killua would have known that illumi was there the whole time, considering that he was able to noticing the hunter exam dudes following him in phase 4, etc....but BOY was i wrong about that oof
iiii think that the whole ‘the hunter exam isnt over yet!!!’ stuff will be an opportunity for killua to pass this year still, maybe? idk abt that tho
i have more predictions but i forgot :( also some of them are more relevant to the next few eps ill make a post on

I've noticed in DGM ressurection typically plays a negative role and represents the worst in humanity, even using love itself for evil. Prime examples being the Earl reviving the dead into Akuma and the Order's 2nd Exorcist project. The only one good ressurection that has happened so far is Allen when the Innocence revived him after Tyki tried to destroy his heart. This makes me wonder if Allen, at some point, will literally die. It would fit many hero journey elements. Particularly in -
2 in supernatural themed stories like this one. It would also fit his messiah like archtype. But more to the point, it would be a really interesting thing for Allen's loved ones to deal with. If Innocence itself could revive Allen from this complete death, would they allow it? They've had nothing but bad experiences w/reviving the dead and by that point they'd all have reasons to distrust Innocence. Would they think they'd be pulling a Earl? Would Allen come back himself? Would they be -
3 betraying Allen by bringing him back? There's just so much for them to consider. So much they need Allen for. So much they want to do for him. I think it'd be a really interesting conflict for the characters to have over Allen dying but having a chance to have him back (to save the world). Who would agree to it and who would argue against it?
I don’t specifically think it’s the worst in humanity, it’s a nuanced approach again, and mostly also a way to see how each sides weaponized said resurection.
The Earl litterally weaponized love, and I don’t believe it’s supposed to show this sort of love as a tool for evil, but show how much the Antagonists can go do horrible things like that and make love, grief, normal humanlike process, into something people should avoid. Bc in the end how to not make Akuma? Not grief, not feel love? Way to isolate your enemy. It leads to despair. I think it shows a lot how the Earl took what was best of humanity and twisted it against itself. After all if it was for the worst of humanity, the souls of the departed wouldn’t be the ones to suffer - the selfishness of the “callers” would be punished otherwise. The souls of the departed being twisted show kinda a bold message of “don’t love anything”, especially knowing that love is the strongest thing of humanity.
But yeah the Second Exorcist project proved how the Order side as the worst of humanity in the name of protecting it. And I think that’s the contrast right? The Earl uses the best of humanity to destroy it, and the Order the worst of humanity to “save” it.
Anyway sorry that was just a slight parentethis (and i’m sure you tried to get through it more quickly due to the ask limit so sorry if i’m just justifyng something you meant)
but you do have a point, resurection don’t really have a good look into the story yet, and it always has consequences both on the people who are ressurected and the people who help into the resurection
As for Allen’s death, I personally think it’s very likely for Allen to die in the end thematically wise, of the boy who started the story bringing back the dead and filled with despair, to die and fill others with hope.
I also wonder if, IF, the innocence win, what will happen to the current innocences in circulation? Because Allen’s was sleeping until it was facing an akuma and I could... see the innocences shatters around the world all over again. And Allen has his own heart laced with a bit of innocence. I could see it bite him back in the ass, bringing back a circle over how all ressurection have a price.
But yeah I otherwise don’t think the innocence would stop Allen from dying if Allen doesn’t have any more reasons to be alive tbh? Like, I mean, his heart was devoured and innocence destroyed when his innocence saved him, so i doubt the innocence would let him die - unless there is no use to him anymore. And there well, it would likely mean the end of the fight as well.
I could see Allen not even seeing himself as... a being outside fo the war. And tbh this would be my strongest reason for wanting Allen to survive. Because Allen’s goal is to be a weapon into the war, once the war is over, Allen doesn’t have “any purpose left”. If he could survive, he would have to find back a purpose in helping humanity in others ways. And I would love to see that, how to cope when you’ve been a human weapon your whole life? But i also think that’s why Allen’s death could work narratively.
So yeah that too, that Allen’s goal is to be part of the ongoing war and that his goal will be done once the war is over- which is different from every Shounen protags i can think of who generally have a goal set for AFTER their adventures, and there is rarely a notion of “how to live once your goal is accomplished.” (especially ongoing goals like starting a family for huh, in general, but like, being Hokage for Naruto, Pirate King for Luffy, Getting back your body with Edward ect... it’s all goals that require “moving on” from the journey, to enjoy said goal. Allen doesn’t have this finality).
As for Allen’s friends, I think no one would want to see Allen’s death. And I could see some character even consider the worst (i swear it’s not shipping related, but like Lavi especially who had had a prejudice against Allen because he was foolish enough to call onto an Akuma, because Lavi just experienced that with a friend at that point, Dug, to be taken with the idea he can’t move on with Allen’s death would work just fine. Tbh this also works with the idea of Lavi being the one telling the story to carry it on y’know)
I think Lenalee would completely refuse Allen’s death. It’s part of her “selfishness”, of priviligizing her world instead of the The World. She couldn’t bear letting Allen to die for the greater good, and i think she would fight for it not to happen and afterward.
Kanda is the one i would see more likely to accept it due to the grief he had to endure in the path, and the fact he’s already ready to kill Allen if Nea takes over. I think he would be more likely to accept it but it depends the situation. I also think that “ressurection” would be badly seen by Kanda, to even consider it, having been a victim of that himself (side note this is a reason I’ve always wanted Kanda to meet Cross while he used Grave of Maria. I mean a corpse brought back to life for their war impact? ah.). So Kanda would be firmly against any attempt to bring Allen back, even if i could see him try to save Allen as much as he could, to its last limits. He owes him that much.
If given a choice (”Let Allen die to save the world, or save allen and the world will still be struggling”) I think every characters who care for Allen to some degree would want to protect Allen. No one would accept the choice. But if Allen is already a goner, i just see.. those who wouldn’t stand it well and those who would be desperate out of it.
It’s really hard to imagine in more details tho bc it depends also how much sacrifices must still be made to get to the end and the characters development.... like I can’t even speculate on Link bc he’s still too early in his character arc regarding Allen to judge for exemple.
but yeah.. more than any story i can think of, Allen dying would make sense and no one would deal with it properly imo.I still kinda cross fingers for a... not so tragic ending. But who knows
