Been listing to my playlist for the canon characters while working on background pages for this blog (once again, highly recommend making playlists for your AUs. Works great as a motivation thing to just turn it on and get in the vibe) and figured I should throw some songs out I haven’t posted yet. So just some random characters songs from the list.

Morty

November Corrosion by Ashbury Heights - This is very much me channeling how Morty has more in common with Lonan than I tend to talk about. Lonan’s visions and sleep issues aren’t from being a Faller after all, he gets it from his dad. To me, this song is about Morty’s visions and also how, in some sense, Morty has a curse that follows him around. Not in a literal sense but there’s a lingering something there. I’ve alluded to this before, that it’s something about Morty that brings misfortune to the family, but it’s related to his affinity for ghosts combined with his clairvoyance. Attracts things. But I also like the “embrace the break of day” line that repeats in this song despite the dour lyrics throughout the rest of it. Cause that’s how I see Morty approaching things. Tries to move forward and not let hardships drag him down. Again, Lonan and Morty are fairly similar in how they deal with situations (something something even without memories of his parents, Lonan still carries parts of them around with him).

Cilan

Masque by Ashbury Heights - Very much related to him being part of the Shadow Triad and raised by Ghetsis. And all the baggage that brings him. My take on Cilan is while Chili is probably the most well adjusted of the brothers and Cress is the least well adjusted (but just kinda embraces and runs with it), Cilan is about as ill-adjusted as Cress but hides it much better. Comes across as a normal dude but if he ever flipped…he’s still got that Shadow Triad edge in him.

Settle For Satin by Alkaline Trio - Another Shadow Triad themed song. Really just this and the previous song are a good tell on how I tend to characterize Cilan. My unconventional take on his true personality.

Tierno

Coco Jamboo by Mr. President - Ending with something light hearted! Really just this song is a vibe for Tierno to me, vs the lyrics fitting super well. The main chorus as least fits him I feel.

i decided that having strict rules was boring, and i want to branch out into the helluva rpc, so i’ve gotten rid of my “won’t follow if” that aren’t related to my accessibility ( being unable to read your blog, your carrd, or google docs ). that said, i will still be very selective with who i follow, and will simply block those who do make me uncomfortable and blacklist urls. i want this blog to be fun and chill!

tl:dr: hell is sentient and loves charlie. it speaks to charlie in their mind, and only to charlie. while searching for a way to stop the exterminations, after being ignored by heaven, they attempt to combine their power with hell’s. it goes bad! the power is too much for their body to handle, and they must either stop the attempt or give up their body to combine their consciousness with hell’s if they want to be powerful enough to take on all of heaven. charlie decides it’s worth it. hell decides it is not. their body is damaged and changed by the experience, so much so that charlie no longer feels like charlie. they change their name to harlot, and start writing songs to get out their feelings. they feel more like the antichrist than ever before, meant to destroy heaven and set the rise of hell. so they sing about it, drink about it, and be wild about it. their reputation turns from the naive, too kind for their own good prince to the ANTICHRIST, a performer rivaling lilith’s influence that parties nightly and overdoses often enough to end up in the hospital. the latter is just an excuse to visit the hospitals they run often.  eventually (second verse) they set up a hotel for those that need it, curious if redemption is even possible, or if anyone would even want to try and be redeemed. most of the occupants are simply demons who need a place to stay.

Just found this in my docs! Apparently I wrote down my reaction when I first listened to Ulysses Dies At Dawn last november, soooo :D

Started listening to Ulysses Dies at Dawn by The Mechanists. First song is The City, let's gooo (19:44).

Just finished listening to Ulysses Dies at Dawn. Oh, shit, I just realised why the album is called that, fuck. My heart. His death was simultaneously heartbreaking, peaceful, and triumphant. I had no idea it was going to end like that. Amazing (22:24).

Ok, some rambling about it before I re-listen with lyrics:

The whole idea of trials, and each character's backstory getting introduced with them is cool. It lets the mystery soak for a bit, giving breadcrumbs out, and letting each character have time to breathe.

I like how the blind guy is almost exclusively referred to as "that motherfucker" XD. Ironic.

Ok, but the sphinx disease is legitimately horrifying. Wow, the Olympians are just straight up villains in this huh.

I think Daedalus has the coolest vibes (apart from Ulysses) 'cause he's just so smooth all the time. Calm and collected and unconcerned... until the end when Ulysses switches it up on him lol.

The line "Currently beaten, battered, bloody... Unbowed. Spits out a mouthful of teeth and disdain" perfectly encapsulates Ulysses' character. I love it.

Ulysses being this super smart inventor tactician dude is awesome. I was stunned by the Trojan Horse twist. Broken Horses was amazing, I had literal chills. Interestingly, it almost reminds me of Hell’s Comin’ with Me by Poor Man’s Poison? Also, the signal Ulysses designed for the Trojan Horse sounds a lot like the V-Day signal in Kingsman. Brutal.

The beat to My Name is No-One sounds like an alarm, like how False Peace by Precious Jewel Amor utilises the prison alarm as percussion, which is very cool. And the song is hilarious. Just waltz in, it'll be fine :D Love the way it fades out after he gives his name away, ending on an unresolved note a lot like in Remember Them from EpicTM. Yo, speaking of Epic, I kinda love how the electric guitar in this song unintentionally mirrors the way Odysseus in Epic has the electric guitar as his instrument when he’s doing badass shit.

And then Ulysses going from idealistic to traumatised, and you don't even see the extent of his hope for the world until right at the end, when it's already gone. Like, shit bro.

Love how even though he spends like- almost the whole thing being drunk and getting beaten up, he still always seems in control somehow. The only time he isn't is in Underworld Blues when he's begging to Hades. I'll have to relisten to that to figure out what he wanted, actually. It was a bit unclear. Did he just... want Hades to kill him or smth? Make sure his brain wasn't on the network? Yeah, I'll need the lyrics.

The twists on all the lore are honestly so great. From mythical and magical, to futuristic and mechanical. You can clearly see the real world myths all their backstories come from.

That simple, blunt "No" from Ariadne was great.

I love how in Torn Suits all of the mercs are singing about why they can't die, and how they're going to use the money to escape the City's hold on them. By running, or paying off debts, or taking a loved one back, or ruling it. But then Ulysses kills them and willingly dies himself, giving his body to the earth and escaping the City more fully than they ever could. Hell yeah, fuck them.

As soon as I heard the password was 'Elysian', I knew it was something about death. His death. And something about it will be peaceful. I was right.

And ARGOS!! The doggo reunites with his human, and yeah he still dies, but Ulysses practically goes with him! Also, are dogs extinct in this world, like horses? Did Ulysses manage to find the last tree and the last dog?? Damn, dude. Mad skillz.

Bro, I was wondering where Penelope was going to fit into all this, 'cause in The Odyssey, practically his entire life purpose is to get back to her, but here there was... nothing stopping him I thought? I thought either he was in huge debt to someone and was stuck in a completely different sector than Penelope, or he was staying away out of guilt and shame over his actions in the war. But then it's revealed that he is trying to get back to her... in death. Like, fuck bro, that's really fucking sad. Dude's been passively or actively suicidal for the past few decades, and then he finally gets to rest with her... Fuck, man. Hits hard.

Ulysses sounds a lot like Joel from The Last of Us games when he sings softly. It helps that Elysian Fields is literally just Wayfaring Stranger lol. Also gives the same feeling as the endish part of AC: Valhalla, after he talks to the king and rides away and Twilight of the Gods starts playing.

The cover art is so cool, as well. And the last ones? The plain wooden table, bare of any media or research or advertisement. So good. No more secrets. No more lies. The truth, laid out in the open, plain as can be. Nothing more, nothing less. And then the vault, blood splattered enemies dying, grasping for artificial life in the cold grey, while Ulysses lies under the living tree, surrounded by sunlight and green with his loved ones, at peace with his death. Amazing imagery.

The drums at the end of Elysian Fields are like a funeral march or the drums that play on Anzac Day. So good.

Every character is just like me fr. They are all the Brain Weird mostly because I have no idea how neurotypical people work.

Typically no. If I do, it’s lofi or Zelda soundtracks. I like listening to a playlist called Blast Your Tits Off when doing my final proofreading for dramatic scenes, and another called Maidenless Behavior for more chill moments. Sometimes I’ll get more specific with songs to match The Vibes.

Anything smutty. Most things romantic. And though I enjoy some “Let’s watch our show!” fics, I do not have NEARLY enough dedication to write one.

actually im curious. for people who make playlists what is their preferred method and also like. what they're making playlists for. i think my playlists r divided into abt 5 categories:

1: playlists that compile work of an artist or smthing like it. ofc u can simply go to an artist you follow and click liked songs but 1) this includes all liked albums even if not all of the individual songs in that album is liked iirc, and 2) sometimes bands have like. members that do solo work and so the song isnt listed under the band name but i personally wanna compile it in the playlist. there's also people like gigaP who i have a playlist for, because he's not listed as an artist for a lot of songs he does production on, and i wanna compile that. and then also theres stuff like. compiling all of the sonic music i like.

2: organizer playlists. stuff like. i like to separate my songs by language just because. and for japanese-language music i break that down into 1) these are openings 2) this is music from a gacha game 3) this is vocaloid music 4) all the stuff that is none of the above. if i want everything i shuffle the folder (tho spotify mobile doesnt seem to have that ability...) or things like, here is a playlist with all of the classical music i listen to. one with all the video game ost. one with all the anime ost. etc. 3: themed playlists. this feels pretty standard, its just like. this playlist has songs that represent a season, this one has gender fuckery, this one is sorta vibey and chill, etc.

4: fandom / story playlists: this is the one i'm interested in!! i think this has a variety of how it works--saw a poll about whether character playlists are made thinking about what music the character would canonically be into, and that blew my mind bc i'd absolutely never thought about that. but i've also never made a character playlist (yet) bc my fandom playlists are like... "story" playlists? so some are just like. fic playlists that compile songs i think fit with the story lyrically and/or vibe-wise, and some are like, here's a playlist abt a relationship i like, and the songs are ordered to show like the chronology of the actual media and each couple of songs represent a different arc / time period etc. i'm not always that detailed, so I've got some that don't necessarily follow a chronology, but with these I tend to build them by writing a google doc with the songs + one quote of a lyric that i think fits, and then I tend to add extra notes on the rest of the song and how it fits with my ideas. why i do it i couldn't tell you because the documents are mostly for me lol. anyways that's all

😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?

It's only been a few months since I've gotten back into writing, so I don't think I'm removed from any of it to consider it embarrassing. However, from a previous excursion into fic writing three years ago and any of the many things I wrote when I was thirteen... 😅 is accurate.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

It may sound a little cheesy, but things like hope in the darkest situations and love and friendship inspiring people to be better. It's more than that but it's those vibes and all I can say is that I love it.

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

"By the Goddess, Robbie!" Impa said. "You can’t just ask someone you just met to strip!" "Why not?" Purah retorted. "I wanna see it, too." Why did they all want to see him naked? Link was very uncomfortable with this. "Enough!" Zelda finally inserted herself back into the conversation. "No one will be stripping anyone. Understood?"

I've started doing it more. Lately, I've found that looking up specific music correlating to a scene gets me really into it and I enjoy it. Like listening to the Lost Woods music while writing about how chilling the place could really be was... intense.

Basically just Google Docs. Mostly because I love the convenience of switching to my phone when I'm out and about. Even have a few things I wrote nearly entirely on my phone while on vacation.

I've talked about it a lot, but my BOTW2 speculation fic that was ruined by the Tears of the Kingdom trailer coming out.

I've always had story ideas, but when I consider it to be actual "writing" was when I was twelve, had finished eating my lunch and I guess I must've finished my book already because I wasn't reading, and I decided to actually start writing down, on pencil and paper, my story, and had actually finished the first chapter by the end of the day.

I love it!!!! I'm admittedly not the best at responding, but it just delights me to see people enjoying something I've written.

anything really very nsfw. it's just not for me

No, not for fics. I have way too many ideas of my own, and even if that weren't the case, I would ask for requests rather than anything.

Entirely too much or entirely too little. Depends on how much I care about a detail and how easily I can figure out the answer.

Just write. It may not be masterfully done, but we all need to start somewhere. And no one else will have your idea, or at least do it exactly the way you do it, so don't be afraid to share your stories!

I am honestly torn between Link and Zelda because I project onto both of them a LOT.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

Probably Purah. There are some other characters that are pretty great, but throwing her into the mix always makes things fun.

Link had forgone the challenge, and sportsmanship, to kill an unconscious, half-dead foe in cold blood. Maybe he didn’t quite want to be the Hero. But he didn’t want to be that, either.

😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?

x I... may have self-projected a little too much and a few of them might know exactly what I am referring to and I don't want to admit that this was my poor way of coping with it.

🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?

I like it when at least someone likes it. Because that's what I need, is for someone to like it, because otherwise I'm content with a story in my head for myself, despite enjoying the process of getting things to actually work in an actual story. So I like it when someone likes it, especially if they give actual feedback, which is part of the reason I try to comment on fics I read pretty often.

✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?

Zelink. I love them, don't get me wrong, but... not every fic is trying to be about them, or at least not their romantic relationship.

📚 Would you ever want to turn writing into a career?

Well, an author is what I've wanted to be since I was twelve, so... yes.

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?

Honestly honestly honestly depends on a combination of length, motivation, and how much time I actually spend working on that particular one. Longest one so far is HERO x FAMILY taking a couple of months, though that was admittedly time concentrated more towards the first couple and last couple of weeks.

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

Action. I mean, describing people doing things as opposed to talking or freaking out internally? Especially if they're doing a lot of things like in a fight? It's a struggle, because it's not really what I think of it and I am slow getting it written.

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

Tough choice because I love angst but A Lifetime Ago just is a heartbreaking premise and I think it takes the cake on this one.

I sure have not, mainly because if I did it would be, how you say, very short. I tend to listen to... one song, over and over and over and over and over again. It usually lasts me through an entire week, sometimes longer, before I have to switch to something new. If I ever do.

10. at what point in the process do you come up with titles, and how easy or hard is that for you?

The latter kind of dictates the former. Sometimes it is so obvious, and it's been obvious since I started, and sometimes I am left sitting there going: I could post this if I could just think of what to friggin' call it. For stories that I have to keep coming back to, it usually happens very organically. I edit. A lot. Coming back to a doc repeatedly and having it be called something truly psychotic and horribly mis-identifying (as it always starts), I'll usually realize what it should be called well before I'm finished. But like with the last fic I posted, I wrote it quickly and I was left with a fic that didn't have a name hours after it was done and I ended up snagging it from an episode of the show I was watching because I dON'T KNOW AND I GIVE UP.

17. what is your favorite line you’ve ever written?

Oof. I have no idea. Do people remember specific lines they've written? I really tend to just remember vibes, atmosphere that I've crafted well enough that when I think of that story that's what fills my mind about it or colors that pop when I think of it. I don't know, it's hard to describe, but when I think of it, it has a unique footprint in my brain. Its own shape and feeling and taste associated with it. Oh! But I can tell you that this line about Boyd from AAYbtDoM makes me laugh out loud literally every damn time I read it:

"He was still trying to breathe normally when Scott noticed Boyd sitting down on the grass, legs spread out and pressing the sole of his boot up against a dead hunter’s to see if they had comparable shoe sizes."

Every. Damn. Time. For context: absolutely the most dramatic crap is happening in the foreground, Stiles and Derek nearly just died, Scott's barely holding onto his panic about that, they've just defeated the Monster of the Week but in the background, Boyd is just all chill, sprawled out on this grass with the level of gravitas that a five-year-old would have on it, that same 'I'm gonna tear out grass and rain it down between my outstretched legs, toes of his boots lazily rocking back and forth' energy, looking for new--well, admittedly ~slightly used shoes from people who no longer need their shoes. The juxtaposition kills me.

20. what is your favorite trope to write?

Honestly, whichever character is the stoic, emotionally constipated beefcake in my ships, I'll muss 'im up with some jealousy. Just a 'here are complicated emotions, go forth and conquer.... or stand there in a corner with an eye twitch and insides squirming while telling yourself you don't care about this at all' moment. It is always glorious.

I’m actually known to enjoy literally anything. Once my dad came to my room with a piece of paper and I said omg thank you so much!! wait what’s this? And he was laughing because I was so genuinely grateful that he was giving me something that I didn’t even bother to think what it was. And it was a simply doc I asked him to print for me ksjgsgsvd But I really like getting plushies. Whenever I get one, I give it a name and a place to sit in my room. Because of that I have quite a lot of them, but I still cherish them all.

palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?

To be honest, I think most villains are made to be enjoyable and liked as a character, not necessarily a person. And in my opinion most if not all villains I enjoy fit this category, so it’s a hard question. I think I’m gonna answer with Emperor Belos from The Owl House (I’m not going to spoiler any important plot lines, but if there are people who are still watching season 1 or 2, you might wanna scroll away for now), because there’s another villain who is obviously meant for the audience to like and Belos’ plotline is supposed to make him very unlikable, but that’s why I love him as a character. He’s a true ruthless villain who’s really well-written and recently it’s so rare. A lot of characters are getting redemption arcs and sometimes I just wanna see someone evil who thinks they’re being the good guy and their psyche is so twisted it’s chilling. Personally I think he steals every scene he’s in because of his confidence and the manipulation tactics he uses to get what he wants. He’s a genuine threat to main characters and the lore surrounding him is filled with mysteries and just enough clues for us to figure out his story which is fantastic. I love it when kids’ media treats its audience seriously. As of now it seems like he’s irredeemable and is the type of villain that has to be killed in the end and I hope it stays this way. I really want to see him get what he deserves. The Owl House is already a really dark show, so they may as well go for it.

papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?

Once again I’m using my go-to k-pop playlist, because it’s much more reliable. Funnily enough though, the first result I got was Whiplash by NCT 127 and I’m not discussing it publicly. Read the lyrics and watch this interview and that’s all you need to know.

The second pick is Jungle by Cix and this one is so interesting. I’m pretty sure that the mv was inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy (specifically Inferno) and the song itself is about going through the depths of a forest as a metaphor for competition in the industry. And these concepts fit together really well. The lyrics are nice to read, they have this darkness that I like and not to spoil too much, but they kinda seem like something you’d enjoy.

Onto the instrumental we go and it’s one of the best I've ever heard. The beginning really gives me that sense of forest at night that’s scary, dark and easy to ge lost in. And it sounds a bit like a noise that you could hear like a bird far away and its voice echoing through space with some sinister sprinkle added to it. It’s literally like the first 5 seconds, but it already makes me really interested in the concept and gets my full attention immediately.

To begin with, I love how much this song uses piano. I feel like there’s something special about songs that know how to balance piano or like violin or guitar with more electronic elements and this one has a perfect balance between the two. The whole first part of the song until the second verse is basically piano with some bass in the background later on – the first verse is mysterious and it’s just piano, then we have a fascinating pre-chorus with church-like organs (suitable for a journey through Hell) setting the stage for the drop and finally the chorus that goes back to piano but this time it has bass added in the background and some extra sounds, but it’s still pretty tame. And then the interlude happens and it’s like a splash of everything and it changes the song completely.

Now the second verse has both the piano and the beat (and some minor extra sounds) and we have a little drum moment in the middle and afterwards another instruments joins which is once again a great build-up for these church organs in the pre-chorus. And this time pre-chorus also gets church organs and a guitar? I think it’s a guitar? Could be a synthesizer, but sounds a bit more like a processed guitar. Then we have something really really cool, because the chorus only has bass and some clapping unlike what we previously heard. The piano is gone now. This whole progression make the atmoshpere get more dangerous, there are no elements in the instrumental just like there are new obstacles for the lyrical I to get through. And then we get this chorus that’s stripped from everything besides the minimal background which is an amazingly done fake-like anti-drop (anti-drop – when the intrumental becomes minimal instead of doing a beat drop that's followed by some more instruments). We expect the drop to go even harder than the last time because each section had new elements added as we went and here we get a surprise and that doesn’t happen, BUT then the drop happens and hits even better afterwards, because that fake anti-drop made us second guess what was going to happen. And I think it’s especially cool because it doesn’t happen with the 1st chorus, but with the 2nd when we think we know what to expect. It’s better in the clear instrumental, because vocals make it harder to pay attention to the intrumental, but I thought it was a nice detail to talk about.

The bridge adds new elements while mixing in what we’ve heard so far. It begins with that fake anti-drop chorus we’ve heard a few seconds before, but then it changes into a completely new section which has like horns and synthesizers? (a good moment to say that I have no musical education whatsoever but this sound is like a horn that my keyboard could make if I searched for a specific mode? So really I don’t know but I like it haha) And then it swiftly goes to the last chorus. And it’s all so smooth, it goes from one part to the other perfectly! There are some other nice elements in this song like breathing which tells you that this person was running (probably from danger) and the lyrics do say The only sound I hear is heavy breathing a few lines earlier (which makes it beautiful narrativelly), but unless you speak Korean, you won’t catch it, so for me I first hear the heavy breathing and then the word RUN (which is said numerous time and is like the theme of the song), so it’s this nice showing before telling (and maybe telling the person not to stop running because danger is still out there).

And yeah that's basically it. The question was what I like about the song, but because I like everything, the answer had to be long. Now I don't really have any specific associations with it, but I think that's fine, because it's already more than I needed to write haha

Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP

The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is

but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town

Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)

Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)

So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)

Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.

Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.

and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.

Honestly wants to never leave you alone because they're worried you'll die while they're away

So he just stops going on missions and stays planted by your side

2B, being the doctor-ish man he is, also checks up on you to keep you healthy totally because he's not being threatened by hank to do so

Sometimes he'll try and hum you a song, though it's rather scratchy and very quiet, since when Hank tries to use his voice, it usually sounds like that

But he'll push through the pain to make you happy

They know they can't lay in bed with you but the temptation.... the temptation.........

If there's anything you need, he's off to get it as soon as you mention it, and is already back as quickly as he came

When you go through pain and intense bouts of struggle to stay alive, I really do believe this is when Hank would truly feel fear- for the first time? Who knows...

Once you manage to get through your condition, he's ALLLL over you

He will always stay as close as possible to you when you're recovering

Ah yes this man is terrified of taking care of you

He knows he's the only man capable for the job, and he knows what he's doing, at that- he's put together and taken care of many people now, sometimes multiple times over, too (a heem heem.... hank....)

But... what if he screws up? What if he makes an incision in the wrong place? What if he suddenly moves his hand too much and damages a vital organ?

These factors scare him to no end when working on you, and yet... again... he's the only man possibly cut out for the job in the base

He doesn't even care that he's ordering around the most dangerous man in Nevada, he WILL tell Hank to be your bodyguard when he has to make a supply run

He sits in your room and keeps a close eye on you from a chair across from you

Sometimes he forces himself to stay awake to make sure you're okay, always gotta be on the clock for a sick patient yknow?

When you start struggling he's already all over it, ready to take down the hindrance in your body

He may or may not have an anxiety attack while doing it, though... poor man keeps worrying that he'll screw up hhh

Luckily, his mind doesn't muddle his hands and he's usually as calm as can be

It takes a lot out of him though

You'll gesture for him to lean down to you, and you'll sit up the best you can to place a kiss on his cheek with a gentle "thank you" when he's done with these situations

It always makes him determined to beat back this disease

While you recover, 2B knows exactly what you'd need and when you'd need it! He's been taking care of you for so long, its like the back of his hand by now

And he's always willing to do it ofc, with lots of reassuring kisses on the cheek to show his affection :)

The first time he did this, you raised an eyebrow quizzically at him

He immediately noticed the look and got offended, "What is that look for?! I can come into any room without question, if you didn't know."

"Then... why are you coming in when no one is around to see you do so?"

He sputters and ultimately doesn't respond

Will never admit he's worried about you, even while sat directly beside you and talking to you about stupid stuff

Otherwise, he has the best doctors in the facility working on you when you need it

No matter how much he denies it, though, it's clear to everyone that Phobos definitely has... favorites

He spoils you with all the guilty pleasures of DESSERTS

"Mmmm! I haben'fhhad ish cream in sho long!!" Your mouth is full of ice cream as you say that

Phobos had to turn around to hide his excited expression and blush

"Ahem- hm. Just hurry up and heal. I need you back in my forces."

When you have those near-death moments, he's literally STRICKEN with fear at the sight of you writhing in pain as your IV speeds up at alarming rates

Like, he's frozen in place

It took you desperately pointing to the emergency call button for him to snap out of it and make a mad dash for it, nearly tripping over nothing in his haste

While the doctors worked on you, he was pacing in his quarters for so SO long

Well I mean-- it FELT long... for him...

After you were saved, he rushes back to your room, doesn't even care that people can see him entering now, he just does it

"Are you okay?" He coolly asks

You cough weakly and nod your head, "For now," you rasp out

He sighs with relief, but the nagging feeling of him being frozen while you suffered earlier plagued him

Eventually you recovered from your disease, and Phobos moved you to his quarters to keep a close eye on you and to make sure you have a speedy recovery with walking again and stuff !

I don't know if you got the surgery yet but, I wish you luck rostyy! Here you go <3

A/n: Sooo long time no see... I'm not quite back to a regular posting schedule at the moment. PA school was making me very stressed and depressed™ for the past year and my first rotation was ROUGH, but I'm less S&D™ where I am now and that got the good ol' writing wheels turning again. I wanted to write this bc that Wellerman song has been stuck in my head and I figured it's October, everyone's writing fun stuff for kinktober Halloween so I hope this is something fun that you all enjoy.  It's a bit different than what I'm used to and there aren't any ships (wait a second lol I mean like relationships), but it was fun to write.

Life on the high seas has its perks. The fresh smell of sea water, the welcoming chilled breeze of the ocean, the calm rocking that lulls you to sleep, all bound together with a simple, mundane life spent with a group of good friends.

"BLARGHHHHHHH"

"Damnit, Kaminari, what happened to you?"

The new honey-blond recruit's face is a lot paler than usual when he raises it above the bow rail, small bits of discolored acid stuck to the corner of his lip. "Bro," he moans sickly, "You know I get easily seasick..."

At least, those things were perks to some people.

"Hey, you signed up for this," his red-headed companion shrugs nonchalantly, handing him the rag hanging from the waistband of his loose-fitting red pants. The cloth would've fallen off his hips if it wasn't for the black belt so graciously given by his employer. The gold buckle matches the single golden hoop hanging off his earlobe. "You knew what you were getting yourself into."

Kaminari ignores the rag, his shaky arm reaching up to wipe his mouth with the hem of his white and yellow striped shirt. "I thought I coulda controlled it. I was doing well, I don't know what happened. Maybe I ate something."

Living on a ship with limited supplies and even more limited room to breathe has its drawbacks. Being restricted to rationing non perishable foodstuff, most of which is some kind of canned or dried. There's not much in the way of privacy with sharing living quarters among the entire crew. Not to mention certain smells that become too overwhelming after a while, forcing you to stumble on deck for fresh air. Some would even argue that having nothing to stare at but the open sea can get boring. Or maddening. Or just plain sickening.

"Weren't you the one who was helping Mina cook dinner last night?" Sero chimes in, carrying a bucket of water and a mop towards the nauseous boy. "None of us got sick but you, dude."

"It all probably became a little too much for him." Midoriya stands up from sitting on a crate nearby. "Probably nervous about his first trip out to sea. It's been a little more than a week that we've been out here, it's understandable that Kaminari isn't used to this lifestyle yet. Try chewing some ginger, it should help a little!"

"Just ginger?" Sero chuckles. "I woulda thought you'd have some miracle drug for him, Doc."

The boy blushes sheepishly at the nickname. Being the most educated gains you some informal titles. "I do, but I think he should toughen up as much as he can first." It was the first time the new recruit's vomited the whole trip, even after all the nightly drinking. That means he's doing well.

Jirou slides down from the top deck to join the rest, shaking her head. "Captain Bakugo says we should turn back home, we've been at sea for too long without any luck and we need to restock." She eyes Denki, who's knees have buckled and is now leaning his back on the wall. "What's up with him?"

"Tossed his cookies overboard," Sero quips.

She clicks her tongue once in sympathy. "Poor kid."

"Come on, we'll bring home the biggest whale and we'll make a huge fortune!" Kirishima pounds his fists together in hype. "Bakugou knows what he's doing!"

"Ah yes, Captain Bakugou's biggest fanboy." Ashido shows up out of nowhere to slap Kirishima on the back.

Todoroki trails behind her with a tray, probably returning from checking over supplies. Him and Midoriya hold the next highest positions under Bakugou's company, handling the logistics and planning of the trip. They're welcome - but still slightly awkward - additions to the team of loud misfits.

"I brought drinks! Figured everyone's spirits needed lifting!" the pink-clad cook announces excitedly. She passes out wooden mugs full of beer mixed with whatever rainwater they managed to collect from the storm a few days ago. Kaminari declines with a pained groan.

Once everyone has their drinks, Ashido holds hers high. "Here's to the best crew! I wouldn't wanna ride out in the middle of nowhere with anyone else!"

"Here's to hoping Kaminari's stomach toughens up for the rest of the trip," Sero mockingly raises his mug to the newcomer, who’s still gathering his bearings.

"Here's to hoping we bring another bounty on our way home!" Jirou toasts.

"I doubt we'll find anything soon," Todoroki mumbles to himself.

"Don't say that," Midoriya responds sheepishly.

"Here here!" the rest of the crew cheers.

"What was that Todoroki said?!" Sero screams from the other side of the deck, steering the sails.

"He just had to jinx us!" Kaminari whines before cutting himself off to avoid seawater getting in his mouth. Jirou has to grab the back of his shirt to steady him, her other hand grasping the agonizingly taut rope.

"Where is she?!"

Bakugou finally steps out onto the deck above us. His red unofficial captain's jacket that's tied around his waist lashes in the wind, his arms folded across his chest and head held high in a powerful and stubborn posture.

"Captain! The whale thrashed its tail and crashed into the ship!" Midoriya reports with a salute from out deck. "We've captured her, but she's so stubborn we can't lead her back to shore!"

As the freckled boy gives his brief, Bakugo slides down from the upper deck and peers over the edge where Kaminari and Jirou are holding onto the weighted rope for dear life. "Stupid hair! Where're the harpoons, damnit!"

"Right here, Captain!" Kirishima kicks the door open, wielding a set of steel, dangerously spiked arrows.

"About freaking time!" The honey-blond boy adjusts his grip on the rope as it slips out of his hands, wincing against the nasty burn it's leaving on his bare palms. "Hurry up already!"

"Bakugou! You can't-" Midoriya starts to protest.

Todoroki appears and dares to whirl Bakugou around by the shoulder. "This is a bad idea. You know towing a deadweight whale is going to put more strain on the ship, not to mention it'll be stale by the time it reaches shore."

Bakugou growls, shoving the hand off him and glaring into Todoroki's singular eye that's uncovered by his eye patch. "Who'scaptain of this ship, Pretty Boy? Besides, I'm not gonna kill her, just wound her enough so she's not thrashing all over the place! Hand me one of those things!"

Kirishima throws one of the harpoons to the Captain, both of them eying over the bow.

"You're just going to anger it even more!" Todoroki screams.

"You gotta show'er who's boss!" Kirishima whoops excitedly.

"Aim for the flanks, don't get her tail," Bakugou guides, raising the weapon behind his shoulder as he readies his throw.

"Aye, sir!" Kirishima positions himself the same way, both of their eyes trained on the large creature.

The whale had sensed the impeding danger and sank under the sea to hide, shrieking as it descends into the watery depths.

"Fire!"

The harpoons fly with incredible speed, glinting under the clear sky like missiles towards their target. As they submerge under, another pained shriek tears through the blustering wind. Suddenly, the rope slips away from Kaminari and Jirou, Kirishima and Midoriya run to grab the section in front of them, the boat rocking side to side as the whale knocks into us as it thrashes.

"Hold on tight, extras!" Bakugou barks, "Don't let her get away! We're taking this whale home with us if it's the last thing we do!"

"Yes, Captain!"

"Another fortune awaits us when we get her back home!"

"Yes, Captain!" everyone choruses again, a certain cabin boy a little more hysterical in the face of all the excitement.

Under the guidance of Bakugou, the whale eventually calms down enough to cruise through the sea. The crew ties ropes through the metal oar holes at the side to stabilize them enough to let go. Jirou and Sero make sure they're still on track to get home as the whale half-pulls the ship towards the shore.

Later under the clear starry night, the crew lights up the deck with torches and drunken songs and toasts of victory.

"Here's to more rum!" Ashido grins cheekily.

"More money!" Sero whoops.

"More tea..." Todoroki mumbles quietly to himself in the corner with Midoriya.

"I just wanna go home," Kaminari whines, drowning himself in more beer as the rest of the crew laughs at him and continues their song.

"As far as I've heard, the fight's still on/The line's not cut, and the whale's not gone/The Wellerman makes his regular call/To encourage the captain, crew and all," Eijirou sings, rhythmically banging on his chair arm.

The rest of his friends follow his lead in the chorus, tapping out the same beat, "Soon may the Wellerman come/To bring us sugar and tea and rum/One day, when the tonguing is done/We'll take our leave and go!"

Everyone ceases their percussion, the night now still. "Soon may the Wellerman come/To bring us sugar and tea and rum/One day, when the tonguing is done/We'll take our leave and go!"

Cheers and drunken whoops erupt from everyone's lips, glasses clinking from around the fire pit.

"That's a pretty catchy song, Kiri," Mina gulps her drinks down.

"Where'd you learn that from?" Kyouka continues tapping her finger lightly to the beat.

The sharp-toothed boy beams and shrugs. "My grandpa used to sing it all the time when I was younger, something about this sailor crew who used to hunt whales for a living. I think it's much better to sing with a bunch of drunken friends though!"

"I 100% agree, bro!" Denki messily clinks his beer bottle with Hanta's.

Katsuki growls, "You guys just love every excuse to make noise, don't you?"

Izuku walks up to him with his signature shy smile. "Ah, they're just having fun, Kacchan."

"It was pretty cool how they all sang the chorus so well together," Shouto chimes in.

"We should sing it again!" Hanta shoots up and stomps the rhythm out again.

"I WILL DESTROY ALL OF YOU!"

I published the first chapter of my longest and most popular fic just about a year ago! And I bet you always wanted to see some shitty outlines. Right? Just giving the people what they want. My brain is chaos and now you all have to be subject to it. Strap in, boys. 😂 Everything’s below the cut!

Read Holding Out for a Hero on AO3

This fic was born because I saw a tumblr post about a hero and villain who are roommates and I just had to Snowbazzify it. I had so many random ideas in my brain, and I’d been engaging with fan content for the CO fandom for a few months now.

So I started off by opening a blank document and writing the Prologue, featuring Shep. I had a few basic facts in mind: Shepard’s a reporter, Simon’s a hero, Baz is a villain, Mage is an evil mayor. And that’s. Literally it. I made it up as I went along. I actually still do that with fics, even though I do try to outline in more detail now—I have to write a scene or two that’s been bouncing around in my head to get a feel for the story, then I can give it a direction.

The document is 337 pages on google docs, LOL. 

Here’s the first ever set of notes I had. I wrote this on March 29, 2020, directly after typing out the Prologue! 

Like I said, absolute chaos. The third Simon bullet point originally said something like “also I’m a superhero and only Penny knows,” then the following day I changed it to “but he’s so handsome? what do???” 

I didn’t publish the prologue until writing 5-6 additional chapters, but I think the only major change was going from Baz being “The Vampire” to just “Vampire.”

Chapter 1 was originally called “not a bloody avenger” before I decided to do the rhyming thing. I actually decided that because I wrote “counter spray and earl grey” down for chapter 2, unintentionally rhyming it, and then @ashspren-writes was like, “you should make them all rhyme”... so I did. 😂 For 25 more chapters.

I have a section labeled “quickie backgrounds” in which I finally sat down halfway through writing Chapter 2 (the blade/vamp fight) and said to myself, okay, maybe they should have backstories or something. Or like, reasons for being the hero and villain. Right, yeah, those would be good to make this into a coherent story. In the first version of that, Simon was a sports coach on the side, not a baker, and Baz was an English teacher. LOL. 

Once I had all that, I literally just wrote for four days. There’s a weird kind of magic to your first-ever fic for a fandom. All your ideas and thoughts and wishes for these characters comes to a head as you suddenly have an outlet for the first time. It’s why I think people’s first works are often their best or most creative or most profound. The first couple chapters took some time and a couple 1am epiphanies, but once I got into a rhythm it was quick going. I wrote a lot of it in a linear manner, but after writing the first Simon/Baz scene (watching the news together in the flat), I doubled back and added Simon going to Penny’s house after meeting the Mage so that I could work her in as a character earlier.

Fast forward to April 5, I had 5-ish chapters written? I thought this fic would have like... 10 total. And be less than 20k. Haha. Ha. I asked @ashspren-writes to beta read for me - I’d been bouncing ideas off her since the beginning - and then I started brainstorming titles. 

The list actually started with that second one. It took a whole 24 hours to decide on the final title. 😂 I thought it might be too cheesy. But hey, it worked out -- now I can’t open AO3 without the damn song getting stuck in my head. 

I worked a LOT with my friend @ashspren-writes on this fic - we were friends long before fandom, and she was the only person I knew at the time who had read CO and was involved in the fandom. I didn’t even have a tumblr at this point, I interacted mostly through Instagram and AO3!

On April 6, right before I posted, I realized that if I was going to actually put this on AO3 I should probably know where the story was going. So I made sure Chapters 1-6 were complete, then I wrote one bullet point per chapter up until 12 or so -- you can read those below.

Then I have a section that says “Why do they even have roommates?” because it was a few chapters in and I hadn’t justified richboy Baz and superhero Simon... living together. Cool cool cool

I also did this cool little writing experiment I want to share. Remember that line in Fangirl that’s like—“Once Cath wrote what she thought was a swordfight, and Wren turned it into a love scene.” (Or maybe it was the other way around? LOL.) Anyway, there’s swordfights in this, AND love scenes, so I wanted to do a play on that for two alternate ways Simon might figure it out.

I have a huge Deleted Section in which I wrote an alternate version of Simon and Baz finding out about their secret identities. I have one version where Baz figures it out first—it’s a very tropey yet angsty scene where Simon comes home totally wrecked from a fight, and Baz realizes as he’s helping with the wounds that he caused them. I actually like it a lot, but it ended up not quite fitting with the vibe of the fic (and I rather like them finding out through kissing better). :) I also had an idea where Simon figures it out because Vampire smells like cedar and bergamot, but it really just wasn’t interesting enough. 😂

Now onto... Outlines. 

I say that hesitantly because I think these are literally a disgrace to outlines everywhere. These are the baby ones I wrote on April 6 right before posting. Some are more detailed than others, clearly...

THEN, I wrote this as a very long text to ashspren, when I realized no sconey, this is not going to be under 20k words. LOL. 

And then I did A Dumb Thing and I put it on AO3, having absolutely NO CLUE WHERE THE STORY WAS GOING. 😂

This next part wasn’t even divided into chapters yet, it’s just a word vomit. I’m so sorry you have to read this mess.

Hahaha, once upon a time there was angst in this story. 😂 

And then I realized my true calling: bakery fluff.

Then and only then, I actually decided to divide into those things called Chapters. This is the point where I made the admission to mr scone (boyfriend, not husband lol, we just call him that) that I write gay fanfiction, whoops, and can he please help me because he’s a HUGE DC comics fan and knows everything. And of course, he was super chill about it, and he did. He really did. He’s the genius behind Egghead!!! And also the entire Mage-Humdrum-Supercomputer/Politics plot. I’m serious. I did none of that.

I can’t even say I’m trying anymore. “Flort”??? I AM LITERALLY NOT TRYING.

Why yes sconey, so very specific. 😂 

This is what qualifies as a “good” outline for me, that heading was just for my betas. Isn’t it fabulous to see that some of this actually made it in and I’m capable of planning in advance? 😂 

Get ready for the shock of your life, though -- I actually have a SUUUUPER detailed outline for the two finale chapters. Because, well, it’s the finale. Wrapping up loose ends does actually require planning, WHO KNEW. Also I’d been writing and posting for a couple months at this point and it had been several more weeks in quarantine so maybe I’d regained some sense of reality? It’s like two pages but still shittily written, so I’ll just share a couple tidibits.

That bullet point is extraordinarily cracky BUT actually, Baz shooting up from the cloud like an awesome fucking hot dramatic person was one of the very first scenes I envisioned for this fic :D 

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my writing brain! It’s a terrifying place. I love all of you that say Holding Out For a Hero is a well-crafted masterpiece, but respectfully, no ❤️
