Listen guys I know I will never be much good* (or even enjoy, tbh) calligraphy, but my mother-in-law keeps giving me old “the basics of calligraphy!!” sets that she finds at goodwill that obviously someone got as a gift in the 90s and never even opened and I enjoy collecting the inks and tiny ceramic bowls and inkstones so, so much ☺️
*this isn’t poor self esteem btw this is clear eyed & serene knowledge of where my skills lay and the answer to that is in art forms that do not require steady hands and good spatial awareness. I like digital art and fiber crafts lmao.

Western Hognose Shopping List
Thanks to their big, fun personalities and small size, western hognose snakes (Heterodon nasicus) are becoming a more and more popular choice for a first pet snake. Though they're not as easy as some other good beginner-level snakes, hoggies are absolutely doable first snakes as long as you do lots of research and plan thoroughly! These adorable little snakes average around 2 feet long for females and just over 1 foot long for males, and can live to be up to 20 years old with proper care.
Before buying your hognose snake, it is extremely important to make sure you find a snake who is well-established and eating consistently on frozen/thawed, unscented mice. Don't overlook this - hoggies can be difficult to get eating on your own!
An important note of caution: hognoses are venomous snakes. Their venom is not medically significant to humans and usually results in no more than mild swelling and itching, but this is something to be very aware of! Hognose snakes almost never bite in self-defense, but mistaken feeding bites can happen so it's important to be aware and prepared.
Enclosure setup shopping list:
It's essential to make sure your hognose snake has plenty deep substrate to dig in! You will need to set up a temperature gradient of 88-78 Fahrenheit. Hoggies are not picky about humidity, and as long as you always make sure they have access to fresh, clean water, humidity shouldn't be a concern for you.
Enclosure. Adult hognose snakes can thrive in a 40 gallon enclosure. You can get away with a 20 gallon for males since they are considerably smaller, but bigger is better! For a baby snake, you and your snake will likely have an easier time if you get them set up in a 10 gallon enclosure until they put on some size.
If your enclosure has a screen lid, don't forget the screen clips. Never bring a snake home without screen clips!
A dome heat lamp with ceramic sockets. Any big reptile brand is fine - Fluker's, Zoo Med, and Exo Terra are all trustworthy brands here. Make sure your dome lamp is rated for the wattage of bulb you will be using - 150 is usually a safe bet.
Heat bulbs. I use ceramic heat emitters for most of my hognose snakes, but some respond very well to halogen lighting and UVB. The choice of providing visible heat and UVB is yours; the only snakes I would avoid it with are snakes with melanin-reducing morphs (like albinos and toffees) because it can damage their more sensitive eyes. Arcadia makes high-quality heat sources your pet will love. The wattage you choose will depend on your enclosure size and the temperature in your home.
A thermostat to plug your heat source into. Vivarium Electronics thermostats are excellent but pricey; you can go as expensive as you like but here is a cheap one I swear by. Never use a heat source without a thermostat!
Digital thermometer/hygrometer reader with probes - Zoo Med and Exo Terra make great dual gauges. Avoid stick-on dials!
At least two identical hides, one on either side. A proper hide has three solid walls and a smallish entrance - you want your snake to feel snug and secure. Baby hognoses especially will do best with lots of extra hides.
A container to make a humidity hide. Simply cut a hole in the lid, fill with damp moss, and you're set! Providing your snake with a humid hide will help them have perfect sheds every time!
A large water bowl
(Insider tip: if you go to the grocery store and buy a pack of black plastic food storage containers, you can easily make hides, humidity hides, and a water bowl out of them! Here's my go-to option, you can easily take care of all that for one baby snake for like 5 dollars! Baby hognoses are extra tiny, so if you're buying a young baby, sugar caddies make perfect, cheap hides.)
Sphagnum moss for your humid hide
Substrate - for hognoses, I prefer aspen fiber because it holds hides well and isn't terribly dusty. Playsand/topsoil mixtures also work well. Whatever you choose, be sure to provide your snake with at least a few inches to burrow in!
Lots of clutter. Paper towel tubes are great, fun enrichment, and empty cardboard boxes are hits with lots of hoggies. They aren't big climbers, but giving them a few branches never hurts! It's very important to keep your enclosure cluttered so your snake feels safe. Crumpled balls of paper towel make for great extra clutter for small snakes.
Consider a blanket or other visual barrier to put over the enclosure to help your snake feel safe and hidden. Hognoses can be very sensitive and often benefit from a little extra privacy.
General care:
Feeding tongs.
Food for your snake. Baby hognoses can usually handle whole pinky mice. Your offered food should be about 10-15% of your snake's body weight.
A soldering iron, believe it or not! A cheap soldering iron will serve you well throughout your snake's life - you can use it to easily melt holes in bowls and containers to make hides.
And some common beginner mistakes:
Don't move your snake to a separate enclosure to feed. It's a myth that will make your snake "aggressive" - it can actually cause more mistaken feeding bites as they associate handling with being fed!
Don't worry if your snake spends most of their time hiding, especially while young. A hiding snake is a happy snake! It's very normal for hognose snakes to spend a lot of their time in their burrows.
Don't over-handle your snake, and always give them at least a week to settle in before offering food for the first time.
Never handle your snake for two days after they've eaten - that could cause a regurgitation.
Avoid heat mats as a heat source for hognose snakes. Because they need such thick substrate, the heat mat can cause dangerous hot pockets within the substrate.
And be prepared to be flexible! Hognose snakes are such wonderful, fun pets, but they certainly have a bit of a dramatic streak. Expect some hissing, puffy cheeks, and a few theatrics! These are snakes with opinions about how you should care for them, so listen to what they're telling you.
I don't know what life would be like without my pet hognose snakes! They're fun, engaging pets who will make you laugh every day, and if you do your research to get them set up properly, you're well on your way to many awesome years together.

Hello! You have cool snakes and know a lot about them too, could I have some of your advice? I've recently been really into snakes, and seen tiktoks of how happy their owners are with them, it makes me really jealous and wishful for a snake companion of my own.
Except I know NOTHING about them, their care, needs or expenses. My experience with pets is a typical low to average maintenance dog, that's it. Never handled reptiles in my life. BUT SNAKES ARE SO ENTICING, and supremely cute too
I was wondering if you have any advice for a complete beginner on what kind of snake to get that's easy and as I said, for beginners (if it even works that way, I don't know a lot about snakes). If you have any resources and such.
Or even like, a checklist to see if I'm even eligible to own a snake (it could be hard idk). Want to know if it is even within my capabilities, the lifestyle needed and stuff like that.
Could you also give tips on their body language? I remember you mentioning in one of your posts that body language is important, and I wouldn't want to mess up. I want the potential cutie to like me after all.
Thank you anyway for your time! Appreciate it <3
so sorry for the late response i wanted to sit down and give a proper thought out guide and just haven't had time <3
checklist for eligibility:
you will need: a terrarium/vivarium, a heating device (heat mat, ceramic emitter or heat bulb), a thermostat (to control the heating device), a water bowl, a hide, substrate, and enrichment (sticks, leaves, decoration etc). make sure you have all of this on hand before you bring your pet home
you'll need to be comfortable or at least willing to feed your snake frozen prey, which means being able to consistently provide mice or rats (most common). most reptile stores will stock frozen!
depending on the species you want you'll need space for a vivarium. if you want a snake that can grow to be 4ft for example you'll need a space to put a 4ft viv.
you'll need to have time to regularly spot-clean their enclosure, which means binning their waste and removing shed skin. a full clean out once a month if not bioactive.
best "starter" snakes (imo):
rosy boa (2-3ft long, 25 years+)
royal python (3-6ft long, 20-30 years+)
corn snake (4-6ft long, 15-20 years+)
Tumblr media
rosy boa - these little noodles don't get enough credit! they stay very small, they're very docile, and easy to care for. due to them being so small they only need small prey items which won't take up a lot of space in your freezer. they're very good eaters. downside is they're less common than royals and corns so depending on where you are you may struggle to find one near you. they can also be more food-motivated than royals and when they have food on their mind they can be a little more bitey - but with their tiny size, i promise you can't even feel it (from experience)
Tumblr media
royal/ball python - a very common snake that can be found in most reptile shops. they're well known for being extremely docile and easy to handle as well as being super duper cute. they live longer than corns and rosys. downside to royals is they can be "fussy eaters" which can make new owners nervous - they're known for going off their food for months. they will also need larger prey items as they grow, so if you're not keen on keeping larger mice/rats in your freezer this is a downside. they're also more sensitive to improper temperature and humidity than corns.
Tumblr media
corn snake - very common so can be bought easily! they also tend to be some of the cheapest snakes, especially if you want to get a "normal/wild type" morph. due to them having a large range in the wild they can tolerate a wider range of temperatures and humidity levels. corns are much more active than royals and rosys, so if you want a snake you can watch do its thing then a corn is a good shout. with this being said, they can be more "squirmy" when being handled compared to royals and rosys as they kind of struggle to stay still.
however, you're not limited to a choice of just three species. as long as you research your snake thoroughly and make sure you have everything you need, you can keep whichever you prefer. my first snake was a brazilian rainbow boa which is a more "intermediate" species and "not suitable for beginners" but he's been great. with their more extreme humidity requirements, i just made sure to keep a hygrometer on hand (to measure humidity) and provided plenty of moss, a large water bowl, and regular mist spraying. never had an issue <3
basic body language:
it's important to note that when a snake is preparing to shed its skin it will be vulnerable. its eyes will cloud over and its skin will feel irritated. we call this being "in blue" because the snake takes on a milky blue colour. during this time your snake might become defensive and this is normal. you should leave a snake in blue alone.
signs of a calm snake: short tongue flicks, loose and relaxed body, moving slowly, fluidly moving towards stimuli, curiosity, regular breathing. a calm snake may sit in an "S" position but it will not be coiling up or fixating on you.
signs of stress in snakes include: long and slow tongue flicks, tail rattling, tail wagging, hissing, striking, open mouth breathing, regurgitation, body flattening, gliding (moving very quickly away), coiling with the head raised (preparing to strike)
this is a very obvious example of a defensive corn snake: their body is coiled into an "S" shape, the head is raised. it takes this position so that it can 1. have a clear view of you 2. to strike upwards/forwards at you if it feels threatened 3. to look bigger to frighten you off. this is a snake who doesn't want to be touched at ALL

let me know if you need anything else <3

Best Dab/Wax Pens of 2024 + New User Guide
All dab pens have a similar anatomy- a battery, chamber, and mouthpiece. The main difference is in the coil design. Dab pens can have a "coil-less" bowl where the heat is generated under the bowl and heats the dabs indirectly, or "exposed coils" which have a heating wire wrapped around a center rod and heat up the dabs by direct contact.
Tumblr media
The two different coil types cater to the two different groups of dab users- the soft and flavorful vs. the harsh and potent. The first group is looking for a mild experience that highlights every terpene of their delicious solventless rosin, and the second group is looking for high-temp dabbing that provides an experience closer to traditional dabbing with harsh vapor and a strong throat hit.
I fall into the first group more than the second, but regardless, I understand that different users have different preferences, and I will list options for both types of users.
Notes:
Some of these vapes were sent to me for free by the manufacturer for reviews, which I publish on my website- vapeguy.com
Links are affiliate. Thanks for supporting.
Full list of coupons can be found here- https://vapeguy.com/coupon-codes/
"Soft and flavorful."
The Puffco Plus has a built-in ceramic dab tool that can be used to scoop a tiny amount. Screwing the mouthpiece back will position the dab right in the center of the coil so it melts in as soon as you activate the heat. It has three temperature levels, and you can hold it for manual heat or double-click for a ten-minute session. The flavor is good, and this pen is dead simple to use.
Tumblr media
The cons of the Plus are-
The chamber is on the small side. Load a tiny amount and be careful not to overfill it.
It uses a 510 charger instead of the more modern and accessible USB-C.
The Puffco Plus retails for $89 from vape-smart.com, and you can use coupon code TVG10 for 10% off.
The Gpen Mirco+ is slightly shorter than the Puffco, has three temp levels, and while it doesn't have a built-in dab tool like the Puffco, it features the much preferred USB-C charger plug.
Tumblr media
It also has a microchip that regulates the temperature in the bowl, ensuring the concentrate does not overheat. It has great vapor quality, and at $75, it is a really solid option.
GPen Micro Plus retails for $75 directly from G-Pen and you can use coupon code TVG20 for 20% discount.
"Strong & harsh"
Tronian Gammatron & Utillian 5- Both vapes have a heating wire wrapped around a center red. These get "red hot" very quickly and create a nail-like experience.
The Utillian is thicker and heavier, and it has adjustable airflow and four temperature levels. The Tronian has a built-in wax container and three temperature levels. Both vapes also have a dab tool built into the mouthpiece, but just a heads up, the one of the Utillian 5 is fragile and can break easily. I already broke one. Utillian also sells a compatible water bubbler that sits on top and adds water filtration for more comfortable consumption.
Both vapes are very good options, but I will give a slight edge to the Tronian. They are available from vape-smart.com and you can use coupon code TVG10 for 10% disount.
Hybrid or dual-use vapes
The Ooze Booster has three temp levels and a coil that looks like a spongy stone that soaks up the wax and vaporizes it. The bottom has a 14mm adapter, so it can easily power any existing rig, replacing the old-school nail and torch setup. Read my full review here.
The XMAX Riggo is not a dab pen, but it functions the same way. It has a similar coil and can be used as a dry pipe or used with the included adapter to connect to a bubbler. It has four temp levels and, interestingly enough, can be used with 510 carts as well. Vapor quality is pretty good, considering the $60 price tag. Read my full review here.
Tumblr media
The Boundless Terp Pen is a dab straw. Instead of loading dab into the coil, you dip the coil directly into the container. This consumption method means zero wastage and ultimate control over how much vapor you're getting. By moving the coil closer or further away, you have fine control over the experience.
The Boundless also has a built-in wax container, so you can take around a quarter of a graham to go, three temp levels, and a tapered rim that will fit bubblers as well. Read my full review here.
I think that basically covers the available options. Do you have any suggestions? Which vape pens should be added and why?

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Futura Kitchen Sink for Your Home
The kitchen is frequently referred to as the center of the house, and any great kitchen must have a well-selected kitchen sink as its focal point. Futura kitchen sinks are a common option for selecting a sink that not only satisfies your utilitarian demands but also enhances the appearance of your kitchen. Among kitchen fixture manufacturers, Futura is renowned for its dedication to excellence, creativity, and style.
1. Sink Material
Futura offers a selection of sink materials, each with special qualities and advantages. The most typical materials are:
a. Stainless Steel
For its dependability and classic appearance, stainless steel sinks are a preferred choice. They are perfect for intensive kitchen use because they resist rust, heat, and stains. You can match your kitchen's decor with the variety of finishes available for Futura stainless steel sinks, including polished and brushed.
b. Granite Composite
Granite composite sinks blend a sleek aesthetic with stone's long-lasting sturdiness. For use in busy kitchens, they are ideal since they are heat, scratch, and stain resistant. To complement your kitchen's design, Futura offers a variety of hues.
c. Ceramic
Kitchens with ceramic sinks provide a more upscale feel. In addition to being stain and fade resistant, they are also simple to clean. You may choose the ideal Futura ceramic sink for your kitchen's style because they are available in a variety of sizes, styles, and colors.
2. Sink Size and Style
The sink's size and design should go well with both your cooking preferences and the design of your kitchen. Please take into account:
a. Single Bowl vs. Double Bowl
Small kitchens or people who value simplicity would benefit greatly from single-bowl sinks. For duties like washing and rinsing dishes, Double bowl sinks offer separation. To meet your demands, Futura provides both choices.
b. Undermount vs. Topmount
In order to provide a smooth, clean appearance, undermount sinks are mounted beneath the surface. On top of the counter, topmount sinks are placed. Select a look based on your choices for kitchen installation and design.
c. Depth and Size
Based on your needs for cooking and cleaning, take into account the size and depth of your sink. Large pots and pans should be washed in deeper sinks, whereas tiny sinks are good for small kitchens.
3. Additional Features
To improve functionality and convenience, Futura kitchen sinks frequently have cutting-edge features:
a. Sound Dampening
To minimize noise while washing dishes, look for sinks with sound-dampening technology. If your kitchen is open-concept, this element is very vital.
b. Accessories
In order to complement their sinks precisely, Futura offers a variety of accessories like grids, cutting boards, and colanders. These could speed up both the cooking process and the cleanup.
4. Budget Considerations
Despite the great quality and style of Futura sinks, it's critical to select a budget that fits within your means. Futura, fortunately, offers a variety of sink options, making sure there is something for any price range.
5. Maintenance and Cleaning
When selecting a sink, think about how simple it will be to maintain and clean. Sinks made by Futura are renowned for their dependability and stain resistance, making them comparatively low-maintenance. Certain materials, nevertheless, could need more attention than others.
6. Matching Faucets
Remember to consider the faucet that will go with your Futura sink; it should not only match the sink's style, but also offer the functionality you require.
7. Installation
Make sure the sink you choose works with the countertop and plumbing you already have. Check to see if the new sink will fit in place of the old one without requiring significant adjustments.
Conclusion
Making the appropriate Futura kitchen sink choice for your residence can improve the kitchen's use and appearance. You'll be prepared to make an informed decision if you take into account aspects like sink material, size, style, additional amenities, budget, upkeep, and installation. With Futura's reputation for quality and design, you can expect a kitchen sink  that not only satisfies your needs but also improves the entire appearance and ambiance of your kitchen, making it the true center of your home.

Learn About All the Smart Shelf Designs for Your Tiny House
Every tiny homeowner desires to make way for more storage space without compromising their tiny house aesthetics. The key to doing so is, however, by getting innovative with shelving. Integrating space-friendly shelving doesn’t only let you keep valuable items but also adds to the look of your house. BOSS’s affordable tiny house has spacious interiors with PIR insulation to keep the rooms warm during winters and cold during the summers. Here you will learn about all the smart and creative shelf ideas for your tiny home.
Tumblr media
Why Do Shelves Create the Ideal Storage Spaces In Tiny Homes?
Shelves are foolproof storage solutions for tiny homeowners as they let you set up the ideal places to store your belongings. Furthermore, they also allow you to make fuller utilization of the corners and blank walls without consuming floor space. However, one needs to have a different mindset to install shelves. It doesn’t matter what type of shelves you plan to use; install them safely with the right support, or you could land in a hazardous situation.
Loft Storage
Tiny home lofts are places dedicated to sleeping and resting. Also, since it is the most overlooked part of the house, they make ideal places for shelves. Solid loft shelves can store heavier items, shoes, clothes, and blankets. Plus, they are convenient as well and let you access things easily.
High Spaces
Installing shelves of different sizes in higher spaces including above the windows and below the ceilings, make for excellent storage. You can use these spaces to store plants, baskets, and pillows. You can even use these high spaces to store unused items.
Narrow Shelves
Consider skinny shelves if you need to organize your kitchen or work area. Some of the narrow shelves come with closed compartments to help you store small stationery. You can use these same shelves in the kitchen to display cooking magazines, cutting boards, platters, and plates.
Floating Shelves
Tiny home floating shelves open spaces simply. Floating shelves are attached to the walls with noticeable means of support, making your tiny home look clean and organized. Think of integrating floating shelves in your kitchen to store your fancy stemware, ceramic bowls, and favorite dishes.
Use the Existing Surfaces Creatively
Using Shelf and Office Desk as One
To save space inside your workspace, try incorporating shelves to preserve computers, highlighters, and notepads. Plan for a high-bottom shelf so you can sit and do your work. Utilize the walls to keep the shelves anchored and ensure sufficient space for the cords to slip through.
Put the Windowsill to Good Use
You can decorate the windowsills using smaller items that consume some space, including small picture frames, potted herbs, and plants. If you are thinking of keeping the windows open during certain times of the year, then be mindful of the wind, weather, blinds, and curtains. BOSS’s tiny house shell for sale has double tempered glass windows that provide optimal security to the inmates.
Customized Shelving Ideas
Corner Shelves
Corners offer the right scope to build designated, compact sports shelves in a space you don’t use frequently. Corner shelves are easy to install. You can invest in ready-made corner shelves in different styles or create them yourself from leftover materials and use them to store wallets, purses, scarves, shoes, hats, and keys.
Fold-Out Ceiling Shelves
Tiny home ceilings can be used up for different types of storage. Such shelves can hang from ceilings and make room for more seasonal items, kitchenware, and clothes you don’t use all year round.
Custom-Built Shelves
If you cannot find the right shelf, make it yourself. Make the shelves suit your particular needs. The shelves should also be sturdy if you store heavy and bulky items.Choosing the right shelf is important, and it begins by measuring the items you wish to place on them and the walls. Remember, your objective should revolve around creating efficient storage. Apart from shelf customization, you can customize the tiny home you are about to stay in.  BOSS’s easy-to-customize tiny home structures are built with snow-load-tested roofs and come with ready pre-installed plumbing and electrical facilities, so you can better focus on building suitable shelves and storage spaces. Did you know that you can just make stuff? With your hands?
Pretty crazy.
I’ve been taking a ceramics class over the last few weeks. That is tangentially related to my latest Splatoon fanfiction, but I also think the first pieces I’ve made are cool enough to share on their own! I took a few pictures throughout the process, so please join me on this journey through touching clay:
Step 1: Throwing
Tumblr media
With a touch of beginner’s luck, I threw both of these pieces on my first day using a blend called Long Beach clay. Taking the bowl off the wheel didn’t go quite as planned, lobbing a huge chunk off the base. We’ll come back to that shortly.
Step 2: Trimming
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As of this writing, I’d say trimming is my favorite part of the ceramics process. I haven’t quite nailed the posture for molding clay (I’m a big dude with some big arms), so it’s more zen to find the right center and smooth out rough edges with tiny metal crowbars and other such tools.
Also, love me some clay spaghetti.
For the cup I was able to make a proper foot, though our instructor had to provide the handle since it was only my second day of classes and my own attempt was too big. I did score and attach the handle, so we’re getting there.
The bowl was much trickier on account of my aforementioned wheel-removal mistake. But with this kind of studio art, not every mistake is fatal. Sometimes you get happy little accidents, as was the case here. I was able to spend extra time evening out the base for a completely flat bottom that serves its purpose well without being too thin to fire.
Step 3: Glazing
Tumblr media
After the first bisque fire, you get hardened pieces that are ready to be glazed (after a quick dusting with a moist sponge). Our little studio doesn’t have a ton of color options, but I looked at some of the prior examples and tried to do a unique thing with each of my projects.
Tumblr media
The bowl uses piki white on the interior, which inherently creates the crackled ‘crystal-like’ appearance you can see in the first image. That was done using a fill-and-dump method before dipping the rim, after which the exterior was dipped in a caramel popcorn color.
The cup was intended to have a sort of sunset look, coated in cornflower blue everywhere except for an ovular spot that was diagonally dipped into orange. I put the piece too deep into the orange glaze, though so some of it spilled inside as well. So, I tried rectifying that by coating the circle with wax - the same wax used to keep the base of each piece from being covered in glaze - before doing the full cornflower dip.
Wherever tongs were used to help dip the ceramics, I had to go through and fill leftover holes by gently scraping some dust off the quick-hardening glaze.
Step 4: Admire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took a few weeks for our instructor to get these pieces through the kiln, but I’m super proud of how they came out!
Despite some holes inside the bowl and discoloration on the cup from that over-dipped orange, they’re much better than I expected for my first attempts. I’ll definitely be using the crackled white and cornflower blue again.
Also, while I played it off at the start of this post, it is really nice to hold something you’ve handcrafted.
Probably won’t make in-depth breakdowns of every piece I make (unless people enjoy this?), but I’m planning on taking this class for the foreseeable future. At the very least I’ll come back around to share a bunch of my finished products once they stack up!

Benefits Of Vibratory Finishing Services
Vibratory finishing, a typical finishing technique in the industrial sector, is a productive procedure used to optimize all kinds of tiny goods and parts. You can quickly clean and deburr objects using vibratory finishing equipment. We provide Vibratory Finishing Services for your industrial needs since large production operations require a balance between speed and quality. There are various deburring alternatives to pick from, and they each provide a variety of cost and productivity advantages. These options range from spiral bowl finishers to vibratory long-radius finishing systems.
WHAT IS THE VIBRATORY FINISHING PROCESS?
A bowl or tub is used in the vibratory finishing process. This procedure is distinctive because you must put substantial pieces into the bowl and allow them to vibrate. The pieces rub against an abrasive media due to the vibratory action, losing their sharp edges and acquiring the required texture.
Vibratory finishing equipment is made to apply uniform, smooth finishes to several components and products at once. They can clean, deburr, and polish objects that adhere to strict quality requirements. Use wet vibratory finishing or dry vibratory finishing depending on the project. Water must be used in the wet process. However, water is frequently cleaned and recycled for use in other processes.
THE WAY YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM VIBRATORY FINISHING
When manufacturers invest in Vibratory Finishing Services, they may benefit from several benefits. Using this polishing technique has the following advantages:
 Low Costs
Vibratory finishing machines are more affordable than other finishing equipment, which is one of their key advantages. Vibratory processes make it simpler to clean and deburr large numbers of components at once, speeding up processes and reducing equipment costs.
 Low Maintenance
Vibratory finishing equipment is very productive and efficient and low maintenance. Because of their dependability, you may do more work without needing to halt maintenance and cleaning regularly. The best cost reductions and the most orders completed come from maximum uptime.
 Versatility
Vibratory finishing equipment can polish various materials, including plastics, ceramics, steel, stainless steel, copper, and aluminium. Additionally, these devices may be modified to meet your needs. No matter the size or shape of your material, we can offer a workable solution.
 Compatibility With Fragile Products
Although the vibratory finishing procedure necessitates a lot of friction to clean and deburr components, it is made to safeguard more delicate materials that can quickly shatter or lose their form. Vibratory finishing provides smooth finishing while the product's integrity is preserved.
LEARN MORE ABOUT FINISHING SYSTEMS’ OFFERINGS
The business will utilize its presence to discuss the several factors a manufacturer should consider if it is thinking about automating the finishing function. A client may invest in increasing finish uniformity or for health and safety concerns. Turkish coffee is a specialty coffee that is served in tiny glass or cup. Finely ground coffee beans and a tiny quantity of boiling water are used to make it. Turkish coffee is generally served in tiny glasses, since the smaller the cup, the more energy released. The coffee is frequently served in a tiny, thin glass and is intended to be consumed in one swallow. Turkish coffee is provided in tiny glasses for this purpose. a lil guide to the Fire Nation for the ATLA fic writers out there
(aka. a no means exhaustive primer on east asia by an asian person)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a guide for fic writers want to write a canon-era story set in the Fire Nation, or featuring Fire Nation characters. A quick little primer on the tiny details of everyday life that you might not think about, but certainly stuff that would make me, an asian person, wince if I were to encounter it. BRUSHES, not quills. CHOPSTICKS, not forks.
(note #1: this was partly inspired by a chat with @elilim)
(note: #2:  I originally intended it for zukka fic writers before realizing that other writers might find it useful. so apologies for a slight Zuko-bias for that reason)
(note #3: this is all stuff i was thinking about when writing firebender’s guide, in case anyone was wondering)
1. CLOTHING
Okay, I think the most straightforward way to describe what everyone’s wearing most of the time is “tunic”. They’re all just...tunics of different colours and varieties. Later when Zuko’s the Fire Lord he wears robes. The show provides a better visual guide than I could, here are a few notes to keep in mind:
a) Japanese people wear their collars LEFT crossed over RIGHT
I don’t think this would come up in writing as much as it would in art, but it’s considered bad luck to do it the wrong way because that’s only for dead people. Let my boy Zuko demonstrate:
Tumblr media
b) There are no buttons
This is picky, but Wikipedia says “Functional buttons with buttonholes for fastening or closing clothes appeared first in Germany in the 13th century.[6] They soon became widespread with the rise of snug-fitting garments in 13th- and 14th-century Europe.” I kinda believe it. If you look closely, characters’ clothes are always tied together or wrapped in some way with a belt. If there are fasteners, they’re braided frog closures that go into a little loop, like the qipao-style dresses women wear in Ba Sing Se, or Zuko’s casual prince’s clothes in the topmost image. Anyways, I don’t think Zuko or Azula or the Gaang would technically button or unbutton anything when they’re changing clothes. Clothing is designed to be tied, not buttoned.
[so much more under cut]
c) This isn’t a real rule, but there’s something called koromogae, or the seasonal changing of clothing in Japan.
This is something I learned when I was writing firebender’s guide, and I just liked the fun detail about there being a strict calendar for when to wear something. I liked the idea of someone like Zuko, who actually spent most of his formative years outside of the Fire Nation, coming home and just suffering mutely through the summer heat because upper class etiquette says no changing into cooler clothes until August 15.
From My Asakusa:
Tumblr media
And this website:
Generally, people change from thick, heavy, dark-coloured clothes for winter to thin, lighter, bright-coloured clothes for spring and summer. In traditional Japanese culture, particularly in formal settings such as tea ceremony, it is important to acknowledge the changes of seasons—in such circumstances, not only the patterns and colours of the kimono that are worn but also the utensils and furniture that are used are required to change. By changing their clothing, people notice and appreciate the change of seasons. [Japan Foundation]
Here are some visual guides from the official creators for clothes: (notice how it’s pretty much always left over right)

2.FOOD AND EATING
a) Traditional cuisine
It seems like the most common foods in canon are Fire Flakes and meat, to the point where poor Aang had to eat lettuce out of the garbage at some point.
HOWEVER, the Fire Nation seems to basically a big subtropical archipelago, so I would guess that seafood and rice are common. If you want to write about characters eating, a. quick google for “traditional japanese cuisine” would help you come up with a menu really quickly.
Tumblr media
Wikipedia says:
The traditional cuisine of Japan, washoku (和食), lit. "Japanese eating" (or kappō (ja:割烹)), is based on rice with miso soup and other dishes; there is an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Side dishes often consist of fish, pickled vegetables, and vegetables cooked in broth. Seafood is common, often grilled, but also served raw as sashimi or in sushi.
But before we get too serious, at one point the Gaang eats a “smoked sea slug” (Sokka’s Master)
Oh ATLA, never stop being you.
Tumblr media
b) Utensils
One thing to keep in mind is chopstick etiquette. Someone like Zuko or Toph, for instance, would have completely internalized all of these.
Tumblr media
Another thing is that there are no glasses. Cups and bowls are made of ceramic or clay. Let the Gaang show you:
And another note: characters won’t eat “bread” in the European sense, ie. a baked lump of dough. Steamed buns, yes. Fried pancakes made from batter, yes. Flatbreads, okay I’ll give it a pass. Rice or noodles should be the most common carbs of choice.
3.ETIQUETTE
“In the homeland, we bow to our elders” - angry schoolmistress in The Headband.
Tumblr media
Japan Guide has a list of etiquette rules for visiting Japan, which is interesting but not too necessary to read. In general, based on what The Headband tells us, Fire Nation characters would have been raised with a strong nationalist curriculum that values communal contribution over individualist expression. Even someone like Zuko, who openly rebels against that, probably couldn’t help but be affected by it. In general the Fire Nation seems to have an East Asian-ish set of values. It’s patriarchal, all the positions of authority are filled by men; there seems to be a strong emphasis on patriotism; there’s a sense of diffidence and respect towards one’s elders; and finally, there’s an emphasis on “knowing” one’s place in society and fitting into what’s expected of oneself.
I don’t really know how to describe it, but in China and Japan I sometimes feel like there’s rules for everything, and even people born and raised there acknowledge it could be stifling at times. You could go down a rabbit hole researching points of etiquette (for instance, rules on who has to sit where in group dinners...), but to me the most important thing is acknowledging that Fire Nation has a rigid system of etiquette, and also, they’re an imperialist power who’s pretty prejudiced against foreigners. Poor Aang/Kuzon gets called “mannerless colony slob” just for being slow on the bowing action (!!!)
(in firebender’s guide I had a lot of fun imagining the stupid microaggressions Ambassador Sokka has to face in the Fire Nation, so obviously I’m just biased)
4.WRITING AND DESKS
Characters would probably write on paper, with a calligraphy brush. Not quills or pens -- a brush. Technically, old Japanese and Chinese texts should be written top to bottom, right to left, but the show itself doesn’t do this, so I think you’re fine.
One fun thing about traditional calligraphy is that you don’t use bottled ink. You have something called an ink stone, and then you grind your ink yourself by rubbing the ink stone in a special little dish with a bit of water. In my (very few) encounters with this stuff in the calligraphy lessons of my youth, the ink stones can be plain or have beautiful designs on the side. It looks something like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ATLA is an East Asian-ish universe, so characters are likely to be kneeling at a table, not sitting. To demonstrate, here’s my boy Sokka doing his famous rainbow at Piandao’s:
Tumblr media
and here’s the war chamber meeting when Zuko speaks out against a general’s plans to sacrifice some soldiers:
Tumblr media
THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS: This is Zuko’s cute little setup when he’s writing his goodbye letter to Mai. In this case he’s writing in a chair and table. It’s possible that some furniture items, like a sitting desk and a bed in a bedframe (not a bedroll or futon) are special royal palace features. Normally in a private setting we see characters sitting on the ground or on a slightly elevated platform with a low table. Maybe Caldera is just different? Or rich people are just different: the Bei Fongs also have a sit-down dining table + chair setup.

(That little rectangular box is his ink dish!!)

5.A NOTE ON GENERAL CULTURE
It’s worth talking about a few general points of East Asian culture. I can’t claim to speak for ALL of Asia, and I don’t think I should. But I do think ATLA fic writers who want to set something in the Fire Nation should take a few moments to at least skim the wiki pages for filial piety and Nihonjinron (literally, "theories/discussions about the Japanese"). There’s a certain...vibe to...asianness... that I’m not sure I can explain without like, a doctorate degree in sociology.
It’s a bit like gender, I guess. There’s no definitive checklist to what is a woman and what is a man, and we can argue that gender is performative, that it’s a construct, but at the end of the day gender is still (tragically) real in the sense that it still shapes people and affects how we walk and talk and dress and think. Nationality is the same. Obviously, the Fire Nation is a made up place in a made up show, but out of respect to the cultures that inspired it, I do think it’s worth familiarizing yourself with some of these cultures’ codes and values.
Also, ahem, if I can direct you to war crimes in the Japan’s colonial empire. Again, worth remembering that the Fire Nation was an imperalist colonizer too.
I might do a continuation of this post and talk through my more abstract takes about Fire Nation culture - Is Zuko an example of filial piety gone right or filial piety gone wrong? Why I think Zuko’s flashbacks are like, at least part teenage melodrama bullshit (the reason is son preference), how someone like Sokka might be treated once he’s openly Water Tribe in the Fire Nation (probably with racism...), specific aspects of asian homophobia and racism, etc. We’ll see.
This is not a definitive guide. Comments and critique welcome.
If you think there’s a factual mistake, PLEASE hop in my asks and let me know. I also think there’s a huge blind spot in ATLA for South and Southeast Asian representation, so I acknowledge that I can’t speak for all Asians, and there is no such thing as a “pan-asian” identity.
If there’s something else you’re curious about, I’m not a historian or anything, but I like research. Ask me and I’ll try to answer the best I can.
And oh, one last thing, this is how I do research when I wrote firebender’s guide, in case anyone’s interested in learning more (LINK)
