I know Wukong made mistakes but I find it a bit sad how no one seems to trust him. Probably makes his already poor communication skills worse and stuff
It sad indeed, specially 'cause in this case is hard to get the trust of everybody back.
MK used to fully trust him, but after the disaster with the samadhi fire, he doesn't want to be the kind of leader he is. He's making plans in each situation, making sure everybody knows what they are about, letting them change something in those if it needed and so. He still believe in his mentor, but he now see him like the kind of hero that work alone, and that something he doesn't want to be.
Mei and the rest of the gang are another story, they just interact with SWK during the travel for the rings of samadhi, and that's... No a really good impression. They don't have him in good light, and the fact that he's no really helping with information during this situation with Mac doesn't help. The only ones that aren't hard with him are Tang and Sandy, but with Mei and Pigsy is enough to feel unwanted.
Red Son... You can't ask him to be friendly with the monkey that trapped his father in a mountain during 500 friking years. SWK doesn't blame him for that.
But well, at the end all this make SWK afraid of what could happen if he tell them everything, there's a lot of things the monkey doesn't like to remember about his past, a lot of thing he did without thinking, he beat himself more that he need to about this, 'cause people see him like the hero, the one everybody need. He can't show them his scars.
Funny enough, there's one person that trust him before, that could see how all this pressure hurt him. Sadly, he's never hear him.

I can't think of anything clever, so dealer's choice. What's something you'd like to rant about for your Duality? Personally, I'm always interested in the psychological changes for an AU. How does this character change their behavior due to their primary influence? I think in particular of MK being influenced by Macque instead of Pigsy or Tang.
[spins in chair like an evil villain] I S e e
well I can divide that into 2 things I'll let you in on a little secret about the AU:
Macaque's Influence on Xiaotian (MK)
You see how in Canon Xiaotian is very energetic and silly, he's generally a good person and has a ton of ambition and dreams of being a great successor for SWK? He's sarcastic and a little shit sometimes but it comes out as optimistic "oops sorry!" (See: Racing and Chang'e episode towards Xiaojiao and Tang) and all of that changes with.. Macaque's influence! He loses that bit that trusts everyone despite what hey've done, he's a bit more snarky and gets hurt a lot more because he's overexerting himself on Macaque's command
It's.. very very fun and I'm sitting here wondering about how I'm going to draw certain scenes considering how Macaque's manipulation and abandonment issues clash with Xiaotian's own issues. He can't trust himself at times and that hurts
Sun Wukong's influence on Xiaojiao (Mei)
Contrast to the show - Xiaojiao actually has a very supportive family and doesn't have someone who wanted her to be "a proper dragon" because.. Sun Wukong isn't a dragon but he doesn't rob her of that identity either. He's very lax in some cases but strict when he needs to be. Opposite to canon SWK... actually no Canon SWK is already so layered and complicated DR!SWK is also layered and complicated but the difference is his upbringing leaving him to make his and Xiaojiao's relationship less "idolized mentor" and more "estranged father-like figure" and it works mostly because Xiaojiao doesn't see him as someone on a pedestal.. she sees him as the person who held her hand when she was little.
That and considering the changes I've made to her, she really needed someone she could argue with without getting scared of him disowning her or something. He wants her to stand up for herself and it's later shown why in the AU.
That and as an additional bonus - did you know Tang and Zhīzhū Jīng are an uncle and aunt in this au? crazy right? wonder to who

You know me so well Icy, is it because I don't shut up about ol Maracas here? Yep, and there it is!! The stuttered pause as you get hit with the she brought him back to life. I totally missed it and jumped into the tags early and was straight up baffled by all the art of Wukong killing Macaque. If I finished OSP's series then I might have known about SWK killing the Six Ears in JTTW at least a year before getting into LMK. But anyways. Shadow Play, my good friend. Macaroon getting stabbed in the eye count, excluding the initial monkeycide: 2 though ig the first was more an attempt, we were def not kidding about how much they drag up his trauma from the grave harder than the LBD did with his corpse. What's up with this guy, talking about "yeah I had a taste of dying, not a big fan" so casually like that 😭 his goofy little expressions as Maczilla Firefox (great suggestion Icy, yeah I know you meant godzilla-) the surprised Pikachu face. "I'll have repaid my debt and be free of this nightmare." this dude honestly...hey Wukong? Do you wanna talk about your feelings? "No." "I do." "We know Macaw." "*info dumps trauma with blunt honesty." "We know Macchiato." well MK tried to reach out for him. he doesn't make a very good defense attorney in Macky's POV though. And a little bonus with MK finally succeeding in an eye stab, like mentor like student? The moment of impact carries the sound effect of the staff striking.

okayokay so lmk s3 was roller coaster and a half and I have analysis's and theories to make.
Red son and Mei:
We r defo gonna see more of them together as Red son is gonna b helping Mei control the true fire so i find thats gonna be interesting as Red was kinda the person who had to deal with it before Mei. Im looking forward to seeing those to interact and become better friends!
Macaque:
He's a tricky one, cause he def has room to redeem especially now that's he free from LBD's control (see source 1) but I also think that because of his past with SWK he may be hesitant to do so, maybe afraid he'll be left behind again (I don't know much abt his past so don't @ me) But after seeing his face (see source 2)when hearing that MK won't leave Mei behind may show him that MK isn't like SWK and won't abandon him. I also think he may get along with Tang, because as I and others noticed he's the only one Macaque addressed by his name. I see him as the same thing Red son was like; uneasy to trust and only really having one friend (4 Red son it's Mei and 4 Macaque its Tang maybe)
Sun Wukong (Monkey king):
I'm generally excited for SWK's part in this story, with him leaving to fight LBD by himself and trying to push everyone away in order to "protect them" and his really stupid plan. I feel like he's gonna be forced to accept the fact he needs help in fighting LBD. I also think that he's gonna have to rescue Mk- from his own stupid mistake (leaving 2 be on his own). Im half hoping that he fights Mk and Nezha as they try to stop him from doing what he's doing. Needless to say I'm intrigued in his part of this story.
Mk and Nezha:
I don't have much to say about these two besides the fact I'm looking forward to the two (hopefully) bonding and trying to stop SWK from himself and his stupid plans. I reckon Nezha is gonna be a comfort to MK about all the stuff that's currently going on and the fact his mentor is trying to push him away.
Tang:
Why'd I give him his own spot? Well, my friends it's because with what I assume are powers (I got this from his little fight with Macaque and him being able to complete the ceremony- see source 3&4) he'll finally be able to leave his shell as the main background character and become a main character in the series, I also think that he'll be one of the few Macaque trusts and even helps him with his abilities. I am really looking forward to seeing Tang stepping out and becoming a vital part of this story. And he doesn't I'll sue.
Mei:
SHE gets her own spot cuz I ain't done with her yet. In s4 I'm looking forward to seeing Mei try and control the true fire and hopefully end LBD. Also I'm looking forward to her interactions with Red son and maybe his family, I want them to see her and notice how negatively the true fire has effected her and kinda be like 'aight she's our child now' (also 2 me I see Red sone and Mei as brother and sister :D ) I rlly want those two to become really goof friends!!
Red son:
This one'll be short, I want to see him become good friends with Mei maybe even see her a little sister of sorts (not that he'll admit it) I also want to see him "join" the good guys, he'll say he hasn't but everyone; including his parents know he kinda has.
Pigsy, Tang and Sandy:
In s4 I feel we may not see a lot of them but seeing as they are the ones going after Mei we may see a couple episodes focused on them. I want to see wholesome interactions with a minor fighting a demon or two. I also wanna see them maybe help Tang with his newfound abilities(?). When/if they find Mei I wanna see sobbing because they've missed her so much. I just wanna see these three be good friends, that's all.
SWK & Macaque's  relationship:
These two. Omg these two. They have such a deep relationship full of distrust. I feel if Macaque tags along with MK and Nezha he'll slowly warm up to Wukong, not fully trusting him again but to the point where he'll no longer wanna kill SWK. I want these two to have a scene either as the sun is rising and falling and they'll kinda just- talk; with tears. I want to see Wukong try to apologise for everything. I want these two to slowly become friends again, I feel there is so much potential with these two in season four and I want to see it.
Overall S4 theory?:
Overall for S4 I'm looking forward to seeing MK and SWK to interact especially since he's going to be an antagonist of sorts, this is gonna affect MK negatively in the long run and may even make him trust his mentor less. I want SWK to notice this and apologise and finally come the the realisation he   isn't gonna be able to defeat LBD by himself and learns he can't fight all battles by himself. In S4 I wanna see a Macaque redemption arc I want to see him become half friends with Wukong. Honest to god if they don't get this I'll write my own story where this happens.
I'm not sure if this season will show the defeat of LBD or not, I hope it doesn't because this story has a lot of potential, maybe with having SWK kidnapped by LBD and the others having to rescue him and face the final boss. LBD. It would show everyone and Mei dealing the final blow to her- maybe even needing backup from the others. I'm getting off track. Anyways, I can't wait for S4 to release and all the adventures that follow. Lego monkie kid is a roller coaster and a half and it's slowly becoming two rollercoasters.
Extra note:
In the episode the get to the temple everyone (minus MK) says how familiar the place feels- this further proves my point that Tang may have magical abilities, he may be a descendent from the monk (idk his name sghsgshs)

Conclusion:
In conclusion, I'm really looking forward to seeing how all of S4 plays out and the ending it's gonna bring us. But in the end everything I've written here is just a theory.... A GAME THEORY!
Slang for those who don’t get it 🙄/lh

I had. Another thought bubble with Bone King, and had a mini-realization that MK and Mac are kind of foils to how Bone King feels about them. Aka another long ask AAAAAAA Like both have more of the intense emotions coming from Wukong, no surprise there considering LBD only has like surface level emotions for basically anyone/anything (cept maybe something more intense for Wukong. Maybe.) Both are someone they (BK) would want to keep around. And for that explanation Wukong is MK's Mentor and LBD wants to have him fulfill a certain role, both in essence want to "guide" MK and both would want him "safe" (ish. LBD just wants him alive but close enough for it to trickle down to a kind of "safe") and both "trust" MK Wukong trusts MK as a mentor to student and LBD trusts in the fact of what she *thinks* she knows of MK to end up doing whatever she wants. (Flip side of Macaque where both more or less expect him to NOT listen and "trust" on him going against them. LBD's side basically offers the solution of having him be terrified into submission and Wukong's....may not like it but with complicated history won't fully appose it so....) Plus both could see MK as a sort of "solution" for the whole issue of "Not wanting to exist" feelings. That and MK annoys the LBD side and Macaque annoys Wukong side. Wukong sees Macaque as a threat to MK (and friends but focusing on MK here) and LBD sees MK as a semi-threat to her (maybe not a big one but a potential one) Flipped side, LBD just sees Macaque as useful but not a threat. So while anything MK would say to BK probably would be jabs at LBD and not Wukong (even if anything hits home for Wukong, Wukong's feeling would likely be more sad than angry) TL;DR MK and Macaque are both "useful" and "interesting" to BK just one is in a more positive light (loosely used for LBD) and the other in a more negative light. But both sides can't actually agree on what to do with either of them.
i treasure these long asks i want you to know. i answered an ask yesterday about mk, but although the ask was really good, im not sure i even got my point across properly bc the wild this is, even though mk doesn't like. stay with BK, in the temple, BK cares about him and what happens to him. the only real time they put him in harms way is when they go kaiju, and thats because they are freaking out over swks memories of being trapped (and also probably lbds memories of being stuck in the box). youre totally right abt all of this pretty much and the ONLY thing that i can think of to add is that i would say that BK is probably enough of their own person to know not to trust mk because they know he would act in swks best interest, but not in lbds (i know u put that in quotations anyway since its more of a vibe than actual trust) BUT YEAH BASICALLY I CANT REALLY ADD THAT MUCH WITHOUT JUST REPEATING WHAT YOUVE SAID BC *GESTURES TO ALL OF THIS* YEAH
yeah and part of the reason theyre so cruel to macaque is because both know him well enough to expect him to try to escape, and to betray them if he gets the chance, and swks way of dealing with that was a fight and lbds was as you said, terrifying him into submission, which together, obviously, translates to some pretty bad stuff. in MASSIVE contrast to this, both swk and lbd were both pretty hands off in letting mk live his own life, and while both of them have a role they want him to play, both are kind of more content to sit back and watch him to make sure hes doing ok (swk) and doing what hes supposed to (lbd)

do you think MK is gonna have a circlet arc?? Going along with your eldritch mk theory jt could parallel his past life being contained and also more parallels to SWK and MK how fun
This ask has haunted my ask box for 3 days. Circlet arc??? CIRCLET ARC???? THAT WOULD BE TERRIBLE AND SO SO SO GOOD.
I have no idea if it would actually happen in show, but I have a feeling MK is at the very least going to have an "anti-circlet" arc. Go with me for a moment:
So, we know MK's bandana parallels Wukong's phoenix feathers in design, right?
Tumblr media
MK with the two ends of his bandana and Wukong with the two feathers coming out of his cap.
However, MK's bandana is ALSO a parallel to Wukong's circlet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And MK was given this bandana by Pigsy (presumably):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is basically a long winded way to say that MK has already been "crowned", in a sense. Unlike Wukong, MK never needed to be controlled in the same way his mentor did at the beginning of his journey. MK, instead, was given morals and love by our wonderful Dadsy from a young age, which effectively functioned as a "circlet", if that makes sense.
So, the bandana, a symbol of both who he is/was raised to be and the crown, is already his circlet. As MK is now, he doesn't need a circlet to exert control over him because of who he is—a good kid who is trying his best to make the right choices.
But, you know, there was that really scary scene that one time where MK didn't exactly feel like MK and he kind of went off the rails...and...WHAT IS THAT
Tumblr media
HIS BANDANA WAS DAMAGED BY HIMSELF IN AN EPISODE TITLED "Rip and Tear" !!?!??!?!?
SO.
Say MK were to rip his own bandana off, symbolically showing his complete decent into his "harbinger of chaos" role...that would mean another crown would have to go on to replace it, right?
Whether MK get's crowned symbolically with another bandana or an ACTUAL circlet remains to be seen, but the potential is definitely there! And I'm normal about it

I can't wait for the S4 finale episodes to solidify MK as monkie. Maybe we get a scene with MK's war form and Azure going "...fuck."
Also good mentor Sun Wukong moment where he apologizes because he has no idea what's going on but he's pretty sure it's fault and he manages to calm MK from war form.
ME TOO. The way MK being a monkey has been playing out is so thematically delicious for MK as a character. IT'S GOT IT ALL. His identity being literally shattered, all roads leading "to pain", being "just like Wukong", his self-worth being lower than it's ever been—as an MK fan, it does not get any better than this let me tell you.
I've discussed here and here why I think MK's creation is 100% Wukong's doing (or at the least partly his doing) and that he knew about MK's origins the whole time, but dear anon, you and I agree that Wukong will have his good mentor moment.
The end of 3x14 was a good start, but Wukong has hurt MK, and this is something MK has never confronted/discussed with Wukong himself. Mei did so on his behalf in 3x10, and Curse MK did so in 4x07, but we haven't had MK really and truly express himself to Monkey King directly (more on that later). So now we've had 4 seasons and 3 specials worth of building and unresolved tension, and you can see MK's hurt bubbling beneath the surface.
In the Revenge of the Spider Queen special, Sun Wukong unknowingly made MK feel like he couldn't help. Like he "couldn't do anything on his own". He—in a way—abandoned MK at the beginning of s2, "leaving him to figure out everything on his own". He wasn't honest or upfront to MK or the rest of the gang about his half-formed plan to defeat the Lady Bone Demon. Honestly, even expecting MK to face Demon Bull King on his own was...a debatable choice. Yes, fighting demons just like that was how Sun Wukong learned (it also being what he did in JTTW), but that doesn't mean that's what MK needs. Plenty of characters have pointed out that Wukong is a terrible mentor (Macaque in 2x07, Pigsy in 2x10, Mei in 3x10, SWK himself in 3x14), and I'm inclined to agree.
This isn't to say that Wukong doesn't already have any good mentor moments, or that he doesn't care about and love MK (he truly does), but he's flawed. Wukong's choices and mistakes have affected MK, and now MK doesn't want to hurt the people he loves in the same way Wukong has hurt him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curse MK: "We’re just like Wukong. A fraud! A trickster! Destructive! Why would our legacy be any different? Actually, no no- the chaos and destruction we’ll bring upon the world will make Wukong’s past look like nothing."
(4x07 Pitiful Creatures)
-
Tumblr media
MK: “And the most messed up thing is, I- I never even realized, never even questioned who I am, or where I come from, or why, or- Until I know what I am, what my destiny is? I can’t risk hurting the people I care about—the one’s I have left.”
(4x08 The Brotherhood)
-
And oh, is it BEAUTIFUL irony. The 4x08 scene I listed above is a direct parallel to SWK in 3x10. MK, in one sense, doesn't know anything about himself, yet he knows everything he needs to: he's exactly like Wukong, fated to "hurt the people who care about [him] the most". After all, that's exactly what just happened. MK, desperate to save Monkey King from Azure Lion, gave into his anger and frustration and went full on monkey demon. His goal was to free his beloved mentor from his prison, yet it only led to Wukong's scroll piece getting sliced in half.
And so, motivated by fear, MK in 4x08 does the exact same thing Wukong does to him at the end of 3x10: MK runs off, MK leaves (JUST like he does in 2x05, 2x10, and the entirety of s3). This causes the people who care about him to worry, inadvertently hurting them in the process. And, oh, is it SO GOOD. LBD was right, there is no running, destiny will always catch up.
[The rest of the meta will be under the cut!]
MK ran away because he didn't want to hurt anyone more, which is the exact reason Wukong ran away at the end of s3 and even disappeared for hundreds of years:
MK: "*sigh* You think Monkey King ever felt like this? Maybe that's why he stayed up on this mountain, just having a good time with you guys. You know cause- cause he knew he'd be out of the way where he couldn't hurt anyone he cared about." (4x09 Roast of the Monkie Kids)
Wukong wanted to stop hurting MK, to keep him out of his fights, so he ran away from MK and towards his own demise. Doing things alone has never worked out for anyone in this show, and ultimately, Wukong only ended up hurting MK more. It's tragedy at it's finest.
If you'd like another punch in the gut, this 4x01 scene is particularly great for doing that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MK, staring into his reflection, compares himself to Monkey King—seeing every bad trait in himself and none of the good. "We're just like Wukong." MK believes he's a fraud, tricking all the good in his life into being there.
Curse MK: "You can see it, can't you? This is your fate. Your friends will turn on you, seeing you for the monster you will become. They will destroy you, harbinger of chaos. It's just like the Lady Bone Demon said—despite your efforts, all you'll ever do is cause pain and suffering." (4x07 Pitiful Creatures)
So, let's finally go back to MK having never confronted Wukong.
There are already plenty of reasons for MK to feel hurt, but now we've only added to the pile with MK's past, and how Monkey King hid it from him. The end of 4x08 already parallels 3x10 in so many lovely ways, however, I believe we are due for a second 3x10 parallel.
Mei: "You knew. All along you knew I had this THING inside of me. And you hid it from ALL of us! Why? What were you afraid of, that you were going to have to TEAR me apart to get your precious Samadhi fire!?" (3x10 The Samadhi Fire)
This scene alone is paralleled to with MK and Curse MK in 4x07. It's another piece of evidence for the fact that Sun Wukong definitely knew about MK, but it's ALSO evidence for MK finally confronting Wukong after the truth comes out. Just like Monkey King knew about the ring inside Mei, he also knew about MK. Just like Mei snapped and revealed all of her pent up anger towards Sun Wukong, MK will do the same thing.
I don't particularly know what war form is, but I have heard a cry in my notes of people like me who want to see MK go berserk, and I am hear to provide evidence for those people of that likely happening. Let's look at the couple of times we've already seen MK flicker into monkey demon form:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I hope you enjoyed my "Scary MK Moments" compilation.)
MK's cracking the ground around him, he's flickering, he's even catching some of his friends in the sheer force he's emanating. When MK becomes a Monkey Demon, it's never treated as a good thing narrative-wise. The first time MK fully enters this form it's at the end of 4x07 when he defeats the curse, which then directly causes Wukong to become trapped in the scroll and Azure to free Peng and Yellowtusk. The next time MK goes full on Monkey Wukong's scroll piece get's cut in two. Both times, MK doesn't feel in total control.
In fact, MK choosing NOT to indulge in his monkey demon form is met with much more success:
Macaque: "You don’t want to fight Azure because people might get hurt, you don’t want to not fight him because people might get hurt--so do something else! Only you get to decide who you are kiddo." (4x10 The Jade Emperor)
And then that's what MK does, he chooses not to fight and instead steals back Wukong's scroll piece. His choice to save and protect the people he cares about rather than to fight back is the right one—he even runs away with his loved ones rather than without them. But even then, MK has to choose to resist his Monkey form:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's all very in line with "harbinger of chaos" and how we could ever get to a point his friends would ever turn on him.
At the end of 3x10, Mei herself goes out of control—but MK refuses to let her go or abandon her. Instead he runs directly towards the fire, reaching for his friend, successfully bringing Mei back to herself. I 100% believe that Mei will do the same thing for MK. At the end of 4x08, we even see her start to make that same reach:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But MK leaves before she's able to.
This makes me think it will happen later, and that we'll get to hear her say "We can figure this out together!", as done previously many times.
I imagine it playing out something like this: MK goes into SWK's scroll piece to fix it from the inside, going through Wukong's memories along the way. MK comes across Wukong's memory of his creation—this is when things take a turn for the worse, as MK slips into Monkey Demon form and confronts the real Wukong about it (this scene would be a lovely parallel to 3x10 and Samadhi fire Mei). Wukong—meaning well—says the wrong things/reveals information that only makes everything worse. This pushes MK to go fully berserk and instigates the Sun Wukong V MK fight of my dreams. Their fight causes the two to break out of the scroll, giving Mei the opportunity to calm MK down.
Wukong being Wukong, is going to want to make it up to MK. With everything now out in the open, I think he's going to be able to do exactly that, and we'll get our good mentor moment.
