Nicolas Blairié's small book of hours for use in Amiens is modestly decorated with a few initials drawn in ink (folio 29), and has the curious shape of an almond when it is closed. The Peace of Amiens was the treaty in 1802 which ended the War of the Second Coalition. The peace would be short lived as Britain would declare war on France one year later. It was, however, the only period of general peace in Europe since the start of the Coalition Wars in 1792.
