America is Dead

I generally try to stay out of politics but when this country is being led by the non-elected talking heads at Fox & Friends it’s time to really examine what’s gone wrong with America.

The federal government has proved that it’s irrelevant.  Incapable of leading, uniting or organizing any kind of response to Coronavirus.  The bloated behemoth inspires despair and hopelessness.  It’s devolved to denying, blaming, lying and in-fighting.  Playing catch-up to make it look like they’re on top of this disaster is shameful when they actually OWN the disaster.  Thankfully my state and local government stepped up with plans, messaging and strategies to get through this in the short-term.  Unfortunately this has resulted in a patchwork of strategies across the country which, in fact, will spread the disease as some areas lock down and others go about their daily lives.

The fact that there are pundits publicly advocating for the elderly to “sacrifice” themselves for the sake of the “economy” is terrifying.  These same people advocate “pro-life” policies for fetuses now seem very comfortable judging which lives on this earth are valuable enough to remain. More ironically, these are the same people who were spreading conspiracy theories about “death committees” when the ACA was being created and signed into law. Their argument that survival of the economy will benefit all Americans is patently false.  Bottom line--they have to remain among the wealthiest Americans to control policy, consolidate power and retain a death grip on society.  The 95% remaining are mere cogs in their wealth machines.

The real irony of this crisis will be the final outcome.  The dismantling of the military / industrial complex in the US, the redistribution of their beloved wealth, their tax loopholes closed, their access to perks and benefits that 95% of Americans could never access cutoff.  The rise of democratic socialism will be their doom and a knee jerk reaction to the excesses of a selfish minority.

America, as we know it, is dead.

Story 3: The Last Time I Saw You

She was walking alone along the streets of her hometown, simultaneously admiring and judging all that had changed when she was away. Central California was changing.

When did that restaurant get there? Who put up that new block of stores? What!? Is that a new neighborhood? She was lost in thought, judging her city for changing so fast while she hadn’t when she looked up at someone that seemed familiar. As she got closer she realized who it was, Emily. A wave of panic rushed through her body as she thought about everything that had happened last year.

What would she say to her when she saw her? She thought about the last time she saw her, how they were arguing. Over what? Oh who knows. It could have been about how the last time she saw her, she had betrayed her. She had promised they would do all sorts of things this summer, go on a road trip, hike the national parks, party like no tomorrow, only to bail last minute. It could be the last time she saw her in the city, she decided to hang out with everyone but her. She ignored her calls, her texts, her messages. She was so confused because she thought they were one of each other’s best friends. And she wondered in these months why she called less and less, and why she hung out with these other people so much more than her. Her heart hurt. But through those months, she eventually stopped calling too. And they went about slowly adapting their lives so that they needed less and less of each other.

So you can imagine how it felt when she spotted her across the road. That wave of fear turned to anger in her body more and more with each step she took. They were getting closer and closer by the second. She could see Emily’s face clearly now, with her hair dyed just darker than her natural golden brown locks and her piercing blue eyes as they looked up at her. Emily recognized her right away and as they came together she heard Emily say, “Hey! Wow! The last time I saw you was-”
