Random-Mailbox's Favorite Sailor Moon Fics - Week 36 - Sex Pollen
Sex Pollen as a trope is also not as big in this fandom as one would imagine. @lilliebellfanfics has suggested I try to put something together because "it’s spring and pollen season", which seems like an amazing idea until I realized how many of the Sex Pollen trope stories went into the Potions post around Halloween. Thankfully, I have more for you to explore!

In this one-shot Usagi and Mamoru start to deal with implications of their anime-inspired break-up after a sex-bubble causes their inhibitions to fall.

This story ties into "4 authors 1 prompt series", parts of which are in the Potions post linked above. In this two-shot, Usagi and Mamoru are working through co-existing within their civilian and superhero lives, while trying to stop people from getting hurt. I loved that this take causes changes in the timeline and forces Black Moon clan and Chibiusa to become anomalies.
All's Fun with Love and Orbs - @irritablevowel
This is another addition to the "4 authors 1 prompt series" with a focus on Dead Moon Circus arc. In a non-traditional take, meddling from Amazones Quartet causes everyone to argue instead of being unable to keep their hands off each other.
Happy Hump Day!: Chapter 1: Lunar on a Hot Tin Roof - @shnuggletea
With Tokyo experiencing a crazy heatwave, Usagi cannot seem to be able to cool down. Mamoru is the only person who can bring down her fever, even if it might not be in the most conventional way. This is the first chapter of a collection of unrelated lemons if you want to keep exploring.
One story that became part of the Reveals series but might make more sense here is Impulse by @areptiledysfunction1107 , where mysterious fog from a youma is to blame for Tuxedo Mask's inability to see straight when it comes to a certain blonde.

wherever you are ~ my man is cupid review?!
I first stumbled across "My Man is Cupid" (MMIC) by accident on Amazon Prime and after watching the first few episodes, I was convinced that this show had set itself up for failure because it appeared to bite more than it could chew. However, nearly two months later, I stand corrected and I have to say no other show has kept me at the edge of my seat like MMIC.
The protagonist of MMIC is Cheon Sang Hyuk, a fairy who shoots arrows and sparks an attraction between two individuals. He lives with three other fairies with the same powers including Cheon Dong Pal, Cheon Dong Chil, and Cheon Dong Koo. The quartet of fairies live under the masquerade of twenty and thirty something adult men (with the exception of Dong Chil, who sometimes turns into a dog) as punishment for a mistake Sang Hyuk made 500 years ago. He falls in love with a woman, interferes with fate, and burns his own wings in the process. When Dong attempted to shoot him with an arrow in order to save him, he misses and their wings transformed from light feather to heavy metal. Since the incident, the fairies have been diligently shooting their arrows and setting humans up and going through several phases of metamorphosis in the hope that they can restore their wings.
It is in the months preceding his last metamorphosis that Sang Hyuk comes across Oh Baek Ryeon, a 28 year old veternarian, who has never had the chance to fall in love. Baek Ryeon's love life is beset with misfortunes as every man she has tried to date throughout her live is met with a near fatal injury. In a chance meeting with a tarot reader, Baek Ryeon discovers that she has sinned in her past life and in order to repent for her sins, she must climb to the top of Inwangsan Mountain and pray for 1000 times until she can meet her soulmate, something which she dutifully complies to. Baek Ryeon and Sang Hyuk meet for the first time at a small restaurant when the inebriated Baek Ryeon mistakenly calls him "honey" and the restaurant owner forces Sang Hyuk to settle her bill and take her home. They run into each other several times after the incident and they can't stand each other. However, after Sang Hyuk saves her life from a stalker and is shockingly uninjured, Baek Ryeon (miss delulu) falls instantly for Sang Hyuk, who she affectionately calls "Superman-ssi." This sets into motion the "looks one-sided but is actually mutual romantic relationship" between both characters.
Playing in the background of Baek Ryeon and Sang Hyuk's love story is the kidnapping of Go Eun Seo, a middle aged woman, who goes missing during one of the snowiest nights of the year. Coincidentally, before her disappearance, she was last with Baek Ryeon as both women, who were complete strangers to each other, are urged by the restaurant owner to share makgeolli and jeon. Leading the investigation is homicide detective Seo Jae Hae. What connects him to the main characters is not only the murder case, but also the fact that he becomes the guardian of one of the dogs that Baek Ryeon saves and treats at her clinic. He is also romantically attracted to Baek Ryeon, resulting in a love triangle between the three individuals.
My Man is Cupid is an incredibly complex story with multiple genre threads intricately woven into the storyline. It is romantic comedy, fantasy, mystery, thriller, star crossed lovers, and reincarnation galore. It's surprising how its audacity uplifts the story rather than burdens. Its also a show that isn't scared of being seriously wacky. Characters dream about their past lives and hypnosis is treated as a legitimate way to procure crime scene evidence. The second lead becomes obsessed with unveiling the main lead's identity- even at one point in the show positing a theory that he may be an alien, though he is the lead investigator of a pressing and ongoing murder case that is desperate to be solved. If things weren't crazy enough, the last episode is a cherry on top to the absurd. Everything about this show is an oxymoron, but at the end of the day its chaos and incoherence is what makes it logical, perfect, and entertaining.
Similar to its cousin " Moon In The Day", MMIC hinges on what I call the "obscured flashback", where the flashback is intentionally revealed in bits and pieces to often mislead the viewer. This tactic alongside the hypnosis is what I believe allowed the writers to seamlessly integrate the different genres in the plot and prevented the story from over-exending itself into the serial killer storyline and failing to address the fantasy elements.
MMIC wasn't the show that I was excitedly waiting for every week, but it was the one that pleasantly surprised me when I watched it in five minute stretches during my twelve hour night shifts. Like many of the shows that have come out this winter, MMIC is not a philosophical treatise laden with symbolism on the meaning of life or love. At its best, its jumpscares mixed with how whimsical and silly a person can become when they are in love. Its an optimistic reminder that at the end of the day, we all have that one person, who we are destined to be with even when the circumstances seem impossible. Finally, for all of us "delulus", its a heartfelt tale endorsing our chaotic existence on this planet.
Give My Man is Cupid a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

Sailor Moon Crystal (Final Thoughts)
(My capture card went on holiday, but at least I have shots from years ago.)
Honestly, I am just going to take this post to focus on mainly Eternal, since S1 and S2 were overshadowed by distracting uncanny valley animation design choices and S3 had a solid run.

In short, Eternal being told in a two-part movie was so fucking good! The pacing was well done and the animation for certain scenes executed beautifully (ALL THE HELIOS/CHIBIUSA SCENES OMFG)!!!! Amazon Trio had more of a backseat role while the Amazoness Quartet had most of the spotlight (which was awkward but I didn't mind it).

Oh, the Outer Senshi moments...CAN I HAVE A SPINOFF WITH JUST THOSE FOUR??? PLEASE??
PLEASE?!?!?!
Anyways, I did notice something during the scene with baby Serenity...well, between Queen Serenity and Nehellenia. Is it me, or am I thinking of Sleeping Beauty for one moment?? Nehellenia just shows up to the party uninvited as if she's Maleficent, which freaking blindsided me for a split second.
There are so many things to talk about that I loved from Eternal, but I just cannot spoil it for y'all. Personally, had they all gone through that two part movie direction, I may consider this a damn good rebound ; considering how SuperS was super bloated with filler in the original run, making it difficult to figure out the lore.
Overall, Eternal left me in an emotional rollercoaster; can't recommend it anymore than I can slam a yes button.
....even if it means to do a rewatch of seasons 1-3 just to be reminded of how far Sailor Moon's reboot has come.

Thus, that concludes the special rewatch that was not even planned for the wheel but Cosmos is already 1/2 way released. Part 1 just premiered in Japan; with all the hype and the casting, I'm TOTALLY ready to get my hands on that movie. Until then, I have something bigger approaching my way.

What headcanons do you have for Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn)?
🤔Hotaru's one of my favorite Sailor Senshi! I'll do my best!
Senshi of Silence is simply another word for Death. While Sailor Saturn brings about the death of everything in her path, she merely heralds the rebirth that Sailor Moon brings. The Messiah of Silence works in tandem with the Messiah.
Because of the Capricorn sign, Hotaru's soul is extremely old and has been the soul of the previous Sailor Saturn for the Queen Serenity before Sailor Moon. Thus, she has died before and often.
She was taught by a Senshi from an extra-solar system as per my fanfiction. For me, it's my version of Sailor Capricorn, who is essentially a time guardian but an assassin.
As the Princess of Saturn, she was also protected by an extra-solar system Senshi, that's why she is so strong and so frightening. In this life, she is trained by Sailor Pluto.
The current incarnation of Sailor Saturn may or may not be in love with Sailor Chibi Moon. As her best friend, she is fairly enamored with the princess. Of course, love for the Sailor Guardians doesn't typically work out, and Sailor Saturn's crush wanes to that of only a squish. Still, they are extremely close and would die for one another.
Like the other Senshi, she does have a small crush on Tuxedo Mask.
She still visits Professor Tomoe, her biological father in this lifetime.
Sailor Saturn loves both her foster parents, Michiru (Michelle) and Haruka (Amara), and her aunt, Setsuna (Trish). (Sailors Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto respectively.)
Sailor Saturn is also destined to guard Sailor Chibi Moon with the Amazon Quartet who becomes Sailor Senshi. She is significantly stronger than the Quartet and is probably on par with Sailor Chibi Moon once she earns the title of Sailor Moon from her mother.
Her most destructive attack is mostly used as a last resort. Most Senshi don't know this and fear she will immediately bring about the end.

I smiled as I added to Baby Violet Marie’s Amazon wish list. I was propped up with dozens of pillows offering me some very much well needed lumbar support and had a bowl of freshly washed blueberries at hand to nibble on while I worked.
“Good morning sweetheart!” I looked up and smiled at my husband, his hair damp and manly chest glistening under the steam as he stepped out of the bathroom with his sweatpants riding low on his hip. “Did you sleep well last night?”
“I did, yes, my love!” I told him with a smile, arching my back as I stretched, setting my laptop computer off to the side as I stood up. I giggled as he came up to my front and lifted me. A short scream flew out of my mouth before I lopped my legs around his waist, locking my ankles into the small of his back as a deep chuckle rumbled up from his chest.
“My woman…” He pulled me up to press our lips together.
“Mamamamamamama! Dadadadadadadadada!”
We both pulled away and looked over at the door, where Baby Tommy was standing on the other side of the baby gate, Daisy on one side and Mittens on his other side.
Peter was chuckling as he carefully settled me back down onto the bed, gently cupping the side of my face in his hand as he checked in with me for a moment before diverting his attention to his son. He opened the baby gate for him and stepped aside as the quartet entered- Baby Tommy, his dollie, Daisy and Mittens.

“Happy baby!” I announced as he curled himself in closely to his unborn sister. “Do you love Baby Violet Marie?”
“I lob my liddle sissy!” he announced, working my sleep shirt up so that he could press a lazy MWAH to my popped out tummy.

“You’ll be the bestest big brother to Baby Violet Marie, won’t you?” I murmured as I began to carefully finger comb his soft baby curls out from his face. “Baby Tommy, I do think you’ve inherited your daddy’s hair color, and my curl texture!”

I smiled at the overspilling love in the backyard- little girl and her daddies, my three older brothers who had social media, Anna and the twins, Jackie, Sammi and Baby Noah, Peter’s four sisters, their daughters and granddaughters. Everyone had brought something to share- cupcakes, fruit, cookies, and veggies and ranch dip. Aaron had once more, volunteered himself to work his portable barbeque, and was happily manning the burgers and hot dogs.
“I got it, sweetheart!” Peter called out as he went back inside the house to answer the doorbell, Baby Tommy and little girl both cradled in his elbows. He came back out no more then five minutes later with Walter carrying Baby Kit and a gift bag messily stuffed with tissue paper.
“Tom Tom?” she called out, whining until her father settled her down. Peter set the babies down and watched as they fondly went up to the blind little girl before leading her over to where Isabelle, Anna and the girls were seated under the big tree.
“Thanks again for inviting us,” he said as he stood awkwardly. “She hasn’t stopped talking about Baby Tommy since we met last week.”
“Yes, well, she’s a sweet child,” I smiled as Baby Kit was settled into Anna’s lap. “All of the kids are sweet- Aria is a natural born leader who loves reading and writing. Evie is a wonderful artist and a kind girl who will give you the shirt off her back if she sees that you are in need. Elizabeth is a kind hearted girl who wants to become a veterinarian when she grows up. Katie is a bubbly child who loves school and wants to study viking history in college.”
“Food’s ready!” Aaron called out just then, loading up a couple of patters with the freshly cooked food. “Come and get it!”

Let's Talk #SailorMoonEternal: The Differences
After five years, multiple production delays, a pandemic, and moving to a different streaming service, the fourth season of Sailor Moon Crystal finally came out as a two-part film under a new title.
Sailor Moon Eternal is far superior to Sailor Moon SuperS.
For a comparison of Sailor Moon Eternal, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.
The Dead Moon Circus arc was adapted into two films instead of a fourth season of Crystal; the reasoning for this change was due to the manga arc being too short for a modern anime season. With a combined runtime of 160 minutes, the films span approximately seven TV episodes, which is around half of a modern season and shorter than some of the original anime's filler arcs.
Due to how much is presented within these two films, this review will be divided into two parts. Part 1 (this post) focuses on differences with the 90s anime, while Part 2 will center on the films themselves.
Here are some of the most notable differences.
Pegasus/Helios' Debut: In SuperS, he first appeared in Chibiusa's dreams. In Eternal, he first appeared to her, Mamoru and Usagi during the eclipse. This worked in both productions due to their context. On SuperS, it set up a mystery, while on Eternal, it was to avoid such mystery.
PallaPalla's Age Swap: In SuperS, she did it to resolve Usagi and Chibiusa's argument about age. In Eternal, she did it to distract them from their plans. This was better presented on SuperS, as it led to some internal conflicts for Chibiusa. In both versions, however, it was pointless.
Luna's Eyes: In both the original and Crystal, her eyes were red. In Eternal, they were now blue. The change was made for her human transformation, since her eyes were originally blue in the manga.
Hotaru's Reawakening: In Stars, Nehellenia's return caused Hotaru to become Saturn again. In Eternal, the eclipse causes her to rapidly age and regain her past memories. Both connected her reawakening to Nehellenia, but it made more sense in Eternal due to the eclipse disabling their powers.
Sailor Moon's Eternal Upgrade: In Stars, Saturn inexplicably orders everyone to give Sailor Moon energy. In Eternal, she naturally acquires the power from the combined full strength of her Guardians and Silver Crystal. It made more sense in Eternal due to the upgrade being justified, whereas on Stars it happened because merchandising reasons.
The Golden Crystal: In SuperS, it was possessed by Helios. In Eternal, it was Endymion's equivalent to Serenity's Silver Crystal. It made no sense in SuperS why Helios would have the item, and it would lead to a plot hole in Stars where Mamoru's Star Seed was Gold despite never possessing the Crystal.
Nehellenia's Fate: In Stars, Sailor Moon sent her back in time to relive her childhood. In Eternal, she outright kills her.
When it comes to Nehellenia, her backstory was drastically altered for SuperS. She became a friendless loser who thought she looked ugly and wanted to destroy Serenity because reasons. Eternal, on the other hand, basically turned her into Maleficent.
The films revealed that Nehellenia and Serenity met once before, when the latter was a newborn baby and the former cursed the Silver Millennium to its downfall. It presents a huge retcon, basically stating everything that had happened over on Crystal was all her fault.
However, it did turn her into a threat on the same level as Wiseman and Pharaoh 90, as opposed to the joke she was on the original anime. Her only flaw was how she apparently also wanted Endymion, which felt like a retread of Beryl's obsession.
The films also featured the animated debut of Ami's mother, a character who previously only appeared in the manga and the live action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Rei's grandfather also appeared, albeit with a redesign. In the original, he was short and bald. In Eternal, he was tall with a full head of hair and a mustache that made him look like either Colonel Sanders or Sam Elliott.
Both the Amazon Trio and Quartet make appearances, with their roles being reversed. The Trio were subservient to the Quartet and killed by the Inner Guardians, similar to the Spectre Sisters from the second season of Crystal.
The Quartet were heavily expanded upon, eventually revealed to be Chibi Moon's future team of Guardians. It marked the first time they were acknowledged as Sailor Guardians outside of the manga, or fan fiction, since they disappeared in the anime right after SuperS. Also, unlike SuperS, they never bothered with disguises.

Hawk’s Movie Rec List🦅🎬🍿
Okay y’know what I’m actually just gonna put together a movie rec list because why not😂 This list will include my summary, a list of starring actors that you’ll recognize in the film, and where to (legally) watch it.
What We Do In The Shadows
Hawk’s summary: a mockumentary about a quartet of vampires living in New Zealand. Also has a spin off show focusing on a group of vampires from Staten Island, NYC. Hilarious and also like... just some great supernatural content. You can watch the show without seeing the movie and tbh it’s just as amazing, if not better.
Starring: Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Jonathan Brugh

Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl
Hawk’s summary: look all the characters are great, the plot is great, zombie skeletons pirates are great, idk what else to tell you. It’s just a fun time.

Young Frankenstein
Hawk’s summary: this film is a comedy and parody of classical horror films and yet manages to be the most accurate Frankenstein film to the original novel in terms of understanding the theme of man vs maker etc. And it’s Mel Brooks, the king of comedy tbh.

Blazing Saddles
Hawk’s Summary: another Mel Brooks comedy, this time parodying old westerns! Watch if you’re tired of racist characterizations and in need of some no barred laughs. Fair warning: they use the N word a LOT, but like... to show the absurdity of racists. Idk I saw it first when I was 8 (questionable parenting move lmao) but it’s one of my all time favorites.

Undercover Brother

Hawk’s summary: watch a bunch of retired secret agents who are “past their prime” be total badasses. Lots of humor, some excellent and fun action scenes. Doesn’t take itself too seriously and is really just about having a good time.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E
Hawk’s summary: loosely based on a 60’s tv show about an American CIA and Russian KGB agent who are partners, but this time with a spunky German mechanic thrown into the mix as they look to stop nuclear launch codes from falling into the wrong hands. Guy Ritchie has a lot of fun with this OT3. Fun spy movie, great chemistry between the three leads, great action and humor!
Starring: Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander, Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Debicki, Hugh Grant, and that one white guy who’s always some sus dude (Jared Harris! Lmao)

Sherlock Holmes & SH: Game of Shadows
Hawk’s summary: another fun series by Guy Ritchie (imo the first is much better though). RDJ and Jude Law have a great time playing off each other, and I love Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler. Jared Harris is in these too so I think he’s friend with Ritchie lmao but he does a fabulous job being manipulative. And the MUSIC!! Love it.

Get Out
Hawk’s summary: okay tbh I see this more as a psychological thriller than horror but I think it just really depends based on your own life experiences. “I would’ve voted for Obama a third time” lmaooo yeah that boy should’ve turned his ass around the second he hit that deer. Jordan Peele really did a great job with this film and it’s always an interesting watch.

Hawk’s summary: this movie really lived up to the hype. A fun mystery film with a few really good twists! Tbh idk who let Daniel Craig do the accent but it just works for the movie lmao. Also a good movie for the family bc each age group can relate really well to a group of characters.

Galaxy Quest
Hawk’s summary: if you’ve ever watched Star Trek or been to a Comic Con... yeah you need to watch this movie. Good gracious it’s hilarious. A bunch of actors from an ended Star Trek show are abducted by aliens who took their episodes to be historical records... and they actually have to play their parts in real life to save the day.
Starring: Sigorney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, Missi Pyle
