For the Fictional character ask: the icons themselves Mickey and Minnie Mouse!

Since I already answered an ask about Mickey, this one will be exclusively about Minnie.

Favorite thing about them: I love, in the House of Mouse, how she's a lynchpin in keeping the House of Mouse afloat and does so much to hold it together, from keeping the projector in order to organizing cartoons, etc.

I also love it in shorts etc. when she's allowed to get hopping mad. A righteously frustrated Minnie is a wonderful Minnie, just like a happy and contented Minnie is also wonderful. :)

Least favorite thing about them: How she can be dismissed by a certain subset of the general public as "the generic female character." Which isn't an issue I have with her, it's with how (some) people see her, but there you go.

Three things i have in common with them:

I can be very gentle and demure. At the same time, if I get exasperated enough, I can make people know it.

Sometimes I worry I am not appreciated by my family group in the way I want to be.

I have a sentimental, romantic side.

Three things i don’t have in common with them:

I am not a mouse.

I am less sociable than she can be, at least when talking with others in person. I tend to be very introverted and reserved.

Regarding House of Mouse, I'm not as adept or as businesslike an organizer, although I always do try to be supportive of my friends.

Favorite line: Perhaps her exchange with Mickey at the end of the Gift of the Magi segment of Once Upon a Christmas. It's a lovely segment, and it's stayed with me even though I think I only saw the movie twice when I was little - once in school possibly, and once when we checked the VHS out from the library. It's just simple classic Gift of the Magi poignancy, I know, but there's just something beautiful and archetypal about it being Minnie and Mickey.

Random Headcanon: I'd like to synthesize all the different shorts/films where Mickey and friends re-enact literature or plays (Christmas Carol, Three Musketeers, Midsummer Night's Dream) and say that Mickey and Minnie don't just have to be separate iterations of themselves if it's cute to imagine them happily play-acting these parts with love and warmth for each other in their hearts. And it is cute to imagine.

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not sure if I have one?

Song i associate with them: This is going to be an odd one, but the temperance song "Come Home, Father" by Henry Clay Work from the 1850s/60s.

You see, the 1941 Mickey and Minnie short "The Nifty Nineties" was at the end of the VHS copy of Pollyanna that my family owned, and it includes a sequence of Minnie crying over the song, so since then, I've associated this song with... Minnie Mouse.

Favorite picture of them:

This moment from the Gift of the Magi segment of Once Upon a Christmas that I've gushed about already. Unlike with Mickey, I was able to find the exact moment from the scene I was looking for in screencap form.

I also want to give a shoutout to the pictures/stickers of Minnie in an old CD-ROM game, Disney Magic Artist Studio. I meant to bring up the game's depictions of Mickey last night as well, but in my haste I forgot.

See, you could put the "stickers" in various backdrops and then print out the image - or animate the stickers as well. I can't find the most iconic depictions of Minnie that I remember (I'm taking the above screencap from a Youtube vid), but suffice to say there were lots of cool variations - like Minnie dressed like she was on Mount Olympus, in the jungle, as an astronaut...

I DID find a picture I made with the game saved on an old computer a few years back, though, so let me share it. Enjoy astronaut Minnie!

Recap: I analyzed and gave silly commentary up to the trailer's start to Riley's ending introduction. To compensate here's a silly joke:

@sarilolla did point out during a quick sneak and peak videos that the official Hello Puppets account released, there were notes. They pointed out that we may have an ally

The other one is hard to read but I figured out the message but I also noticed something as well.

I managed to see what it reads and it says "Just play along" I believe this is actually one of the puppets trying to trick ya into confusing the notes because the notes of our ally are in black not red. So the Handeemen are playing dirty in this!

That is the best assumption of why we got Daisy's icon specifically, but this is also one of her levels

I remember this type of puzzle for one of Sewingsilly's gameplay of the BETA version but I can't remember which part it was. It was similar but it was a Riley level, this is a Nick Nack level.

So the whole gimmick of this puzzle, the puppet you see in the middle of the box, is representing the puppet of the puzzle you are doing. (In Sewingsilly's vid, the hand puppet was holding a beaker to represent Riley, a character did not look like her at all. It appears that maybe we're goin to get a hand puppet similar to them.It took me a while to realize it looked like Nick) So this little bastard is asking that you become their best friend

Sounds easy enough, but apparently their friendship has a prize. Nice

So this character will be asking you to bring them three things. It;s all related to them and it's scattered around the level I believe.

After you give each of the character what they want they will give you off a price. It will depend on the number, but sadly I don't know what the final prize is because in the BETA there was a glitch. My best assumption

the L word. i'll be honest that i have not rewatched this since i was like 13, but i DO remember bits and pieces very well, and it has so many iconic characters & quotes. jenny schecter is so unpalatable and i love that for her

dead like me. this is a bryan fuller show from like 2002 about a girl who becomes a grim reaper. fuller is more well-known for hannibal and pushing daisies, but this is the one i was obsessed with as a teen. (i think there's also an episode of hannibal that's like...a stealth crossover or a shoutout to dead like me? idk i haven't seen hannibal.) it definitely uses some...outdated language...but i think it still otherwise holds up decently well. it's funny and profound and i love love love daisy adair with my whole heart.

Very bored and JAKKS is doing a product preview on April 1 so. Predictions for the second wave of Disney ILY dolls

Next wave of dolls will be: Tiana, Rapunzel, Moana, Belle, Snow White. Belle and Snow were promised as upcoming characters so I believe they’ll be getting dolls. The other three have packs already; Moana and Jasmine are a tossup between each other but Moana is Disney’s current cashcow so I think she’s a definite. Rapunzel has several sets so she’s getting in. Tiana is getting in because she’s Tiana.

Other dolls I would not be surprised to replace one of the above: an Anna doll, meant to serve as a sister to the Elsa doll, or a Daisy Duck doll to go with the Minnie.

Slightly less excited expectation: as we’re getting two characters of color, there’s gonna be discourse over the dolls. The previous five dolls were designed specifically to not look like their OG (ariel being blonde, tink being east asian with long dark hair, etc). I seriously doubt Disney would not let Tiana be black bc that backlash would be immediate but Moana is gonna be tricky. Honestly my expectation is that Tiana will have a cool natural black hairstyle and maybe different eye color– maybe green as a shoutout to the frog? God only knows what Moana will look like but fingers crossed!!

If there is a Jasmine doll I would KILL for her to come in a hijab.

Packs for Raya at the very least. I don’t think they would have had time to make Encanto or Turning Red packs before knowing those movies would be a hit, and while it’s possible we’ll get a Meilin or Mirabel pack, I feel like that would be more likely wave three. Raya was expected to succeed (and did) so we’re getting at least a pack for her, maybe one for Sisu.

More packs for Mickey-centric characters; it’s Disney’s icon, I fully expect at least a Daisy pack.

I’m expecting more Disney Princess packs as well: with Belle and Snow promised, we’re missing Aurora, Pocahontas, Mulan, Mérida and obviously Raya and Mirabel. I would ADORE if Aurora and Snow got pajama packs (maybe also Giselle?)

Cinderella and Tinker Bell have dolls but no packs, so I expect those two to get packs asap. Esp since the new Peter Pan is dropping this year, they’re gonna wanna market the shit outta Tink.

Fully expect an Alice pack at some point. I also see definite probability for Toy Story packs, themed around Jessie and girlboss Bo Peep. Can also see them slipping in a Judy Hopps pack at some point

We got two Very Deluxe™ packs last drop and a huge accessory (Minnie’s car); I feel like we’ll get those too. My guess is one of the Deluxe Packs will be Raya-themed, the other will be Daisy (if they use her) or one of the other princesses they’ve utilized. The big accessory prob won’t be another car but if it is I’d love a Vanellope-inspired one

Now. Those are my predictions, here are things I would LIKE but don’t think would happen, at least not this soon:

Rare Disney ladies getting packs. Maid Marian, Giselle, Melody, ESMERALDA, Nala, Lady, Kida, Megara, Vanellope, Duchess and Marie, Mary Poppins... when Encanto stuff drops I DEMAND a tie-dye set for Isabela and some kind of Dolores and/or Luisa set. Big Hero 6 packs would also be cool as shit

Some VERY rare girls I would love to see: Kiara, Miss Bianca and Penny, Jenny Foxworth and Rita/Georgette, Eilonwy, Olivia Flaversham, Spring Sprite

Jane Porter is unlikely bc Disney ran into copyright issues with her but a lil jungle explorer kit would be cute

Going feral over the season 4 finale episodes again

-Panopticon: King of SO MUCH PLOT IN ONE EPISODE. I remember listening and being BAFFLED with just how much they fit in 24 minutes. Also I found out this was the shortest of the three and I’m even more feral for it. We got the Jonah Magnus reveal. Martin revealing he was playing Peter. Not!Sasha. Gertrude’s death. The Hunters. Daisy sacrificing herself for Basira. All of these happened and they were well paced. Iconic. 

-The Last: Peter Got His Ass Handed to Him And The ‘Tell Me What You See ‘‘I See You’ THAT IS LOVE!!!! Love Beats the Lonely Bitch-!!!!! Also shoutouts to Gertrude for wrecking Peter with the newspaper. 

-The Eye Opens: Remember when they didn’t give out the episode title until the release? Raise your hand if you cursed when you finally saw it? ICONIC SCOTTISH GETAWAY. THE GOOD COWS. THE FLIRTING IN GENERAL. And Jonah and his entire speech out of Jon’s mouth and every word he says making you hate him with a greater passion. The final LAUGH. THEY DID AN APOCALYPSE WITH A SEASON LEFT!!! THE MAD MEN!!!!

10 Favourite Female Characters

I was tagged by the awesome @princecharmingwinks ! Thanks for the tag and sorry it took me a few days to get around to doing this. 😊😘

Rules: tag 10 favourite female characters from 10 different fandoms then tag 10 others to do the same.

The hardest part of this for me was just picking one character from some fandoms because some of these shows (thankfully) have more than one awesome female character I love. Okay, in no particular order, here goes.

1) Joan Watson from ‘Elementary

I’ll admit, I was a little wary when I heard they were making a Sherlock Holmes show and making Watson a woman, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I ended up loving Joan and this iteration of the Holmes/Watson relationship. Also, this was a look (once she took the big overcoat and hat off). Everyone praises Joan’s fashion choices on this show, but for me they didn’t always work. But when they did, damn, they really did. (Although, to be fair, there were some I didn’t like at first glance that ended up really growing on me so maybe some of them are just an acquired taste.)

2) Dana Scully from ‘The X Files’

The OG, amirite? She was everything teen me aspired to be. Cool, classy, intelligent, dry-witted, kickass and the object of Fox Mulder’s affections.

3) Leslie Knope from ‘Parks and Recreation’

Who doesn’t love Leslie? She’s hard-working, caring, capable, loyal, would go to the ends of the Earth for her friends, endlessly encouraging and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. A lovable goofball. An optimist always striving to make the world a better place. A fighter who never gives up (or at least not for long). What’s not to love?

4) Captain Kathryn Janeway from ‘Star Trek: Voyager’

Another 90s lady that inspired teenage me to want to be just like her. Clever, classy, commanding, compassionate, kickass and with cheekbones to die for. No wonder Chekotay loved her (don’t even @ me with that he married Seven of Nine crap, we all know where his heart really lay). I remember reading an article at the time that described Janeway as a cross between Captain Kirk and Katharine Hepburn so really I was bound to love her, wasn’t I?

5) Okoye from ‘Black Panther’

What can I say? She was just the highlight of the whole movie for me. Strong, funny, loyal, moral and absolutely undeniably kickass. When she whipped her wig off in that club and whooped those guys’ asses I wanted to holler. One of my favourite characters in the whole MCU.

6) Rosa Diaz from ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

Ah, Rosa. Tough, laconic, badass Rosa. A woman of few words but stout heart. Generally echoes my sentiments on having to socialize, but always there for her friends even as she roasts them . And now a bisexual icon as well. (Shoutout to Amy Santiago from this show as well because I love her too, but we’re only supposed to pick one character from each fandom.)

7) Melinda May from ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’

I would die for Momma Bear Melinda, okay? But she wouldn’t let me. Cool, classy, kickass (do you sense a pattern here??), pragmatic Melinda who is also compassionate and caring and definitely someone you want on your side when shit goes down. She may hate the nickname, but they don’t call her The Cavalry for nothing. Again, I want to be her. (And I really, really have to give shoutouts to the rest of the women in this show, Daisy Johnson, Jemma Simmons and especially Elena ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez because I love them all and it was really hard to choose just one from this show. And, yes, I know it’s a Marvel property, just like ‘Black Panther’, the movie Okoye is from, but as it’s television I’m gonna treat it as a separate fandom from the MCU.)

8) Veronica Mars from, er, ‘Veronica Mars’

I haven’t seen the movie or the new series (and I’m probably never going to now knowing what I know about what happens to a certain character), but Veronica, while not perfect (she sometimes held people up to impossible standards and got a little judgy when they didn’t live up to them), was smart, funny, cool and a truth seeker who didn’t want the bad guys to win and always did her best to make sure they didn’t. She was also a survivor.

9) Athena Grant from ‘9-1-1’

This was another one where I was torn between characters as I also love Hen Wilson from this show, and I adore both actresses who play Athena (Angela Bassett) and Hen (Aisha Hinds), but in the end I think Athena’s no-nonsense cop just edges it. Smart as a whip (although, dear God, I admire her tenacity and wanting to do right by her kids, but the longer it dragged on I was literally screaming at the screen at her to finally just end her marriage and move on before she ended up hating both herself and her then husband), sardonic, loyal, caring and wise, she could whoop my ass and I’d thank her for it.

And last, but certainly not least...

10) Tina Belcher from ‘Bob’s Burgers’!

Look, this show is just a blessing, okay? And every single character in it is a blessing, especially the central quintet of the Belcher family. But within that quintet if I absolutely have to pick a favourite female then it’s Tina, hands down (if we’re going male then it’s Gene). Loyal, compassionate, creative, romantic Tina, a complex mix of social anxiety and budding libido, she’s one of life’s triers and, with the help and support of her family, is a shining example of someone overcoming their fears and doing something anyway, knowing that even if she fails it’s better than never having tried at all. An inspiration to us all really. Plus, she writes fanfic.

And there you have it! I’m definitely sensing a pattern in some of these choices. I guess I have a type, lol! Day 3: Favourite Character

Don’t we all know who I have to pick? Let’s think about this for a bit...

First off, I love all the minor recurring characters like Deke, Talbot, Lance, Ward--all characters I love for different reasons. So I just want to give them a shoutout.

7. Now then, I really love Yo-Yo for being introduced so well and having such a strong background, strong beliefs, and instantly recognizable personality... when she steals people’s weapons? Amazing. She’s confident, capable, rash, and extraordinarily resilient.  

6. I love May for just... existing. She’s unstoppable. It takes a lot to get to know her. But when you see her finally begin to open up, she’s something beautiful. She can be quite mischievous, sarcastic, blunt--but she loves quietly, holds on to her pain silently, and accepts you as you are. She wanted to be a mom, but she chooses to be a soldier, and she is very good at following orders. She knows what her job is. 

5. I love Skye for being a kid who devoted her life to finding out where she belongs, and I love Daisy for being a woman aware of her origins and accomplishments. I love that she found her family and chose to make SHIELD her family. I love how underneath her strength, a part of her is still vulnerable. But she rolls with every punch. She makes mistakes and comes back from them.

4. But I also have a big soft spot for teddy-bear Mack. He’s a very interesting character because I feel like I understand who he is and how he’ll react, but sometimes he surprises me. He tries to follow a strong moral compass, it seems, but sometimes he’s a little self-contradictory (aren’t we all). He’s very relateable. And he’s also a person of faith, so I can relate to him a little bit extra (even if it’s not quite an accurate representation of my faith).

3. Coulson is the man who started it all--my TV dad. he’s funny and cheesy, but ridiculously cool. He walks up to the bad guys and makes a joke in their faces, then ends them without a second thought. Death? He survives it all the time... what, like it’s hard? Then he comes home to his wife, living legend Melinda May. He’s truly an icon in Marvel....

2. If I’m honest, Simmons has often gotten the unsympathetic role a little too often, and doesn’t always get enough recognition. Sometimes she gets a bit overshadowed by everything else going on. But stop and consider who she is--she didn’t have to go into the field, but she wanted to, she has so much enthusiasm for using science to help people. What you forget is how selfless she is. She jumps on what she thinks is a grenade, she jumps out of a plane. Jemma is a sweetheart and a genius, and she excels at preparation. She’s had to learn how to prepare for anything at any moment, by learning subterfuge, emergency medical care, and wilderness survival. She’s also had to learn how to use her emotions because she has such strong emotions, but she doesn’t always know how to deal with them or express them. Jemma gets hurt, but she knows who she is, and she learns from her experiences. 

1. Look, I love everyone but it has to be Fitz. I think a lot of people would probably agree, his character is so well written.

Iain de Caestecker has done such a phenomenal job delivering a complex character. He took a nerdy tech boy who was there for comic relief and techno-babble... and gave him substance almost from the beginning. 

Really, it starts in FZZT, when you see him bicker with Simmons to cover up his fear, but then we see his loyalty too--he runs into the quarantine to help her and he was 100% willing to jump after her with a parachute. Plus, you can see the moment he realizes how much Jemma means to him, and his love for her really starts to bloom here. But more than that, throughout season 1, we learn what a good, sweet person he is--we see him become a true teammate and almost like a brother to Ward (and even defended him), a friend to Skye (after a brief, unspoken crush on her), and a son to Coulson...  

His performance sells everything Fitz does in a way that makes us immediately understand, sympathize, and connect with him. Little details like having a broken arm as a kid, no father, never going by his first name... they speak louder than you would expect. You feel like you know him just based on what he doesn’t say. Then there’s his temperament--he knows how smart he is and will occasionally remind everyone to appreciate his genius because he’s not always self-confident and he craves validation or reassurance, in truth he often thinks too little of himself. He also gets cynical and grumpy, especially because he’s been betrayed so many times and things have gone very badly for him. But he always seems to bounce back, because at his core he wants to believe people deserve the chance to be good, a chance at forgiveness. He gets angry, yes, but it’s always for a good reason, and really it takes quite a lot. He’s initially written as though he’s not a brave person... but far from it, he’s perhaps the bravest person on the show--and that bravery is always fueled by love for his team and for Jemma. He never gives up when his mind is set on something (or someone), and he supports those around him (sometimes more than he should).

And though every trauma he’s endured has felt like it should destroy him, somehow he endures. It makes me angry at the writers because he doesn’t deserve this. 

He thinks that he was useless to his friends on the team once his brain was damaged but he stuck around. He thinks that the universe hates him, but he still jumps through portals and sleeps through 74 years, and defies the laws of death and physics to save Jemma/The team anyway. He thinks that he doesn’t deserve Jemma, but he puts her first EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.  He thinks he’s a bad person, but proves why he isn’t. And still, what is his reward? He continues to get hurt or betrayed or violated over and over.

Depression [Plot Piece 1]

“Gyah... I last remember falling from a good height into a anthill, and then the bugs swarming me and biting me! It tickled, kinda, and also made me feel pretty itchy...”

“And then I heard crying.”

“I... I didn’t know who they were... no, who HE was... but... I had the strangest thought enter my head. That’s... Sparkler, I think. He’s a robot. He needs company.”

“So... I’ll just try my best.”

The Buizel taps Sparkler.

“h-huh?” Sparkler says in between sniffles.

‘“I... um... are you ok?”’ I asked, not wanting to think about the weird... thing he was in... a box. A fabric box. Didn’t look too... box... y... but I shouldn’t think about it more.”

“Lonely... I’m... I’m so lonely...”

“W-what?! Why?”

“I... *sniff*..”

“So he told me. Everything. A beach event. The Mystic Railway. How nobody seemed to notice he was there. I.. I was starting to cry. I needed to make him smile somehow...”

“Gotta... think... come on...”

“Oh! What if...”

And the Buizel turned around, and inserted her twin tails into the hideaway Sparkler was in... and started to tickle him!

“Wha-”

Sparkler erupts into laughter.

“Hahahahahey, stop that!”

“It seemed to be working, at least... He certainly seems to be somewhat better.”

“phew... ha... thank you...”

‘“It’s ok! Why not come out of that, it looks like it could be cleaned.”’ And Sparkler agreed, but... his stomach was stuck, as he almost got out.”

“Eep!”

“It seems the hideaway he was in was meant for some smaller creatures, not him... so it was a struggle to get him out. He explained it to me. Apparently, it belongs to some Poke... Rodents... Daisy and Maisy, I think. He remembered that said hideaway was really cozy inside, so he went there to calm down after leaving the beach “event” crying. I wasn’t sure what a “event” was, but I ignored that.”

“Anyway, he just... waited there... and they haven’t returned yet. But... he’s no longer crying, at the very least. And he’s taken the hideaway, which had gone back to it’s boxy shape, with him, in case he needs comfort again.”

“There’s just two things troubling me. First off... how do I get this stuff out? The... black stuff does not look easy to clean. Second... he said I needed a name. Which... is actually a good point... I do need a name for myself...”

“So what should I call myself?”

Phew, that was tiring to get through, I literally didn’t have any plans!
