#eliot posts #toh #i visted my parents this weekend #and since retiring my mother has gotten REALLY into birdwatching #she has like five birdfeeders out in the yard #(i mean. better than her previous hobby of getting piss drunk all the time) #(or her other hobbies of watch true crime that triggers her anxiety. or spending time in her facebook echo chambers) #anyway there were SO MANY cardinals out there and i was internally like #OMG FLAPJACK!!! #idk if they've quite surpassed mourning doves as my fav local birds but yeah #also she gave me a birdfeeder and some seed. specifically the kind that cardinals like #im not gonna put it out yet bc of the avian flu that's going around #they say it's a low risk to songbirds and you probably only have to put bird feeders away if you have poultry #not because it spreads via bird feeder but because it attracts so many birds to ur yard that could infect ur chickens #but i'm gonna wait a bit just to be safe #dont wanna get my cardinal friends sick #might toss out handfulls of seeds at some point bc mourning doves prefer to eat off the ground #and they'll be spread out enough to not have the birds clustered around one feeder #idk
