Fandom song animatic tournament: Bracket 2 Side B
Pad Thai - Jack Stauber
"Maddening, it's a regular bad thing! Pad Thai, I'm a normal guy! Saddening, nothing's really happening! That's right, take a big bite!"
How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20
"But I believe the world is burning to the ground Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out Let's see how far we've come Let's see how far we've come"
Remember that we're voting on how Iconic they are for ANIMATICS, not for the song itself. In order to make things fair, the tone and mood of the song should not affect how iconic it is (for example, a serious song should not be considered more iconic than a joke song just because it's serious)
Propaganda and animatic links of the songs under the cut:

How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20
Propaganda:
Aside from two of my favourite ever animatics being to this (Homestuck and Hermitcraft 8) it’s such a fandom song (genuinely up there with soldier poet king in the “oh my god it’s just like my d&d party” vibe). So many stories are about averting an apocalypse or some other looming threat “I’m waking up at the start of the end of the world” and the whole song is about reflecting back on your life and that of the world around you. It’s perfect for a climatic buildup to the end of a campaign or series finale, or a summary of an entire work. “Say your goodbyes if you’ve got someone you can say goodbye to” is perfect for drawing ships or friends or siblings to, with maybe one solitary person at the end. The percussion and guitar also make it very suited to animatics - there’s perfect parts in the music to switch between frames or scenes. It’s been around since 2007 so it’s nostalgic and from the peak of amvs and animatics. Please this song fucks so hard look at all the lyrics listen to it on loop it’s so quintessential to me
the DRAMA. the STORY. the EMOTIONS. this is a song for an animatic that covers character growth and major plot points, and it does it so well! if i am invested in the fandom and watch a how far we've come animatic i already know it will change me as a person
Dude. It makes the heart swell with emotion and pride at wow these characters sure have come far
It's the OG. I don't even know if homestuck started its popularity in the animatic scene but it was huge and it remains huge. From TAZ to (apparently, from a quick youtube search) hermitcraft, this song will tear at people's heartstrings as they think about blorbos the band has can't even imagine.
this song makes me so emotional ok? i know lots of fandoms use it but the ones that stuck with me are warrior cats, hermitcraft and of course homestuck. sorry for the cringe but im glad to be free. anyways this is THE song for anything that has either ended or had a large amount of time pass and also its just a really fucking good song on its own.
Animatics with the song:
Hermitcraft
The Adventure Zone
DSMP
Last Life SMP
Homestuck
Please be cautious and read the title, description and warning cards on the animatic videos if you decide to watch them. If you've got specific triggers I'd recommend even more caution when watching animatics of fandoms you don't know, since sometimes canon-typical themes don't get warnings.
Please keep in mind that I don't know all the media and fandoms of the animatics provided as examples and I don't have the time (nor the will) to research them all. Don't come into my notes or my ask box complaining about them being included, I will simply block you. If a ship animatic included is about an adult and a minor, do tell me and I'll take it out of the post
ALSO keep in mind that I don't know all the artists submitted; in fact, even if I do know them I do not know absolutely nothing about them as people (I do not have twitter nor tiktok) and I could not POSSIBLY have the time to research ALL of the artists' controversies and what came of them so PLEASE don't flood my inbox with the artists' entire crime list.

Talk about your feelings John's dad. Also something about that urn is so scrungly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John's dad is so nice wtf, also john you ungrateful little shit I would do ANYTHING for such a big harlequin doll. YOU HEAR ME, ANYTHING!
Tumblr media
New angle of John's room! Also this is making me nostalgic for my grungy teenage boy bedroom from high school. I miss that deviant lifestyle.
Tumblr media
I genuinely adore when Hussie makes little images like this for a joke. I would love to see what assets he used to make this image. This is so charming.
Tumblr media
Man John's dad is so cool, this study is fucking insane. I need to get ahold of that fictional middle class money and get me a study like this.
Tumblr media
This is kind of similar to that monocle joke from the last post. Was this style of joke just in fashion at the time or is this going to be a running joke???
Tumblr media
Hell yeah, play that haunting refrain white boy. Also cool that we are getting animations with sound this early! Don't know the piece he's playing but it sounds very nice.
Tumblr media
What year is this supposed to take place in??? Because it's kind of hilarious that John is so obsessed with slimer if it does take place in like 2010ish. I like to imagine he just knows about the ecto cooler Hi C from internet reviewers referencing it like I did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yo title sceen I made it! That's the homerstuck!!! I included the Simpsons clip because that's all I could think the second I saw Walt Whitman mentioned. I'll never be able to take that man seriously.
Tumblr media
STRIVE! It was cool to have a little game of fighting dad. Also I'm pretty shocked that dad looks so basic. I'm not gonna lie I was expecting some crazy jester man. Also if dad is making him this huge cake now why did he already have a full cake in his bedroom all day???
Tumblr media
WOO! DAD DEFEATED, BETA GET! Also who the hell gets beta access for a game through the physical mail????
That's page 100 though! Join me hopefully tomorrow on my continued journey through Homestuck!

hi, i’m in the same sort of headspace regarding cosplay & fandom lately, i feel like it doesn’t make me feel happy and my heart just isn’t in it anymore. it’s such a strange feeling, it’s been part of my life from such a young age and for so long now. truly bizarre and leaves me with a strange-sad-nostalgic feeling in my stomach. i hope you post more about how you’re dealing with it!
Ever since I was young all I ever really wanted was a group of friends to cosplay and go to cons with, so I can definitely relate. But fandom and cons have changed so much since then. I don't even read fanfiction anymore. The only fanart, fanfiction, and cosplay I do is for fantasy reasons, and for mine and my friends' D&D characters. So I have an audience of like, three people.
I think a big part of it for me is how commodified fandom has become. Everything has to be a product. Cosplay is exhausting, it's not even about the characters anymore. It's who can be the flavor of the week. I have also just become really picky about characters! There's some that I really love and relate to, but I think for now I've decided it's okay to just love and relate to them. I don't have to dress up as them. Combine that with my general fear of crowds and that most of the time cons are just an excuse to see my friends, I don't even really like cons anymore.
Like, I've always liked OCs. Even folks who have been following me from my homestuck days know that I was more well-known for my fantrolls than any actual fanart. And I think thats because I can't really rely on mainstream media to represent me or create characters that I actually relate to. So it's really no surprise that I care more about ren faires or throwing parties for my friends that are fantasy or D&D themed. I've also been moving across the country and getting my masters degree. I don't have time to work on things I don't really care about!!!
I am also still nurturing a broken heart that I'm pretty sure will never fully heal or resolve given the circumstances. And while I'm trying my best to spark joy in my life again, cosplay might be one of those things that will always be painful and sad for me. So, I might return to it one day but that might just be a thing that stays with my past self. I'm open to change but that just might mean that my relationship with that sort of thing has changed as well.

✨🍀 for alex / 🌂💎 for adam / 🧠 for both!!
Under the cut :]
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name? (Alex)
With Alex I don't entirely remember, but it was kind of a gradual process and a bit of trial and error. I wasn't going to use my actual name, so I just kind of pulled some four-letter names out of a hat and went with what sounded good. Kind of asked myself "If I had to pick a different name for myself and it could only be 4 letters what would I pick".
Funnily enough, this was also like the biggest step in separating Alex from myself and making her more of an OC.
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Alex was once a Homestuck self-insert I made in middle school when I was reading the comic for the first time. She became an emotional outlet for me for a long time, thus why when I inevitably moved away from Homestuck I couldn't quite let go of her. She's very important to me for a lot of reasons, but that's the biggest one.
When I got back into HS this past September-ish, I decided to revisit Alex both because I still remembered enough of her character and out of that mentality of "Cringe but Free" (huge props to SarcasmProdigy btw for giving me the residual confidence to post her publically. They're not big into HS anymore afaik but I remember the days of JuneProd). I went back and rewrote a bunch and tweaked it in a lot of places, but her premise is somewhat the same. It's the version of Alex that got a happy ending, both in the sense that she didn't originally have one but also in a weird 'healing-my-inner-self' way.
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC? (Adam)
In the main timeline, absolutely not. If Adam dies he dies old and satisfied. AU's are a different story, though.
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC? (Alex & Adam)
To be honest there's a lot to like! Both characters are held very near and dear to my heart for similar reasons, but I think the thing I like the most about both of them is how they're like... testaments to change, in a way. Not just within their respective stories, but both of them have gone through a lot of changes and revamps as I've improved my writing, and when you put their current versions with their first versions it's like looking at two pieces of artwork that are years apart and seeing all the ways you've gotten better. It's nostalgic and motivating at the same time.

Oop I seem to have gained some new people! Sorry I’ve not been too active lately XD
UH…a small “get to know me” though I guess!
- My IRL name is Jonny so you may see close people using it but my online name/art name/alter ego is Jimmy sometimes stylized as J!MMY and it comes from a long story inside joke! Sometimes I tack on my last initial (R) depending on the situation
- I’m a guy, my pronouns are he/him/his!
- I’m trans and have been out since 2013! I’m 5-6 years on T (I honestly forget the exact year off the top of my head) and am almost two years post-op! I don’t label myself as a “trans guy” exactly though and usually just say “guy” because frankly trans or cis doesn’t matter because I AM A GUY lol
- I’m an artist first and foremost and draw…well, kink and nsfw mostly XD I have an original comic about two fat BDSM gimps in a cyberpunk world that fall in love…sort of :U It’s complicated. They’re names are Scream and Candy and they’re my main OCs. You can see more of them and my art at my art blog @electropuz or send them asks at @spandexspaceman though that blog isn’t exactly ready yet!
- Other hobbies include writing, RPing, and cosplaying! And sometimes making said cosplay though my skills aren’t great so I usually end up buying cheap cosplay and fixing it up lmao. I also like gaming sometimes and wanna stream myself playing them or do “let’s plays” as a side thing for fun!
- Possible trigger warnings! I am mostly “spiritual” but openly identify as an atheistic Satanist! I also am a heavy drinker and a stoner so it’s hard for me to always tag things like drugs and alcohol! I’m also pro-kink BUT within limits!! I DO NOT support pedophila, incest, and other such things! Just keep all this in mind before following and minors DO NOT INTERACT at all! Btw if you’re a minor and I interact with you first out of accident first just tell me and I will quit right away!
- Otherwise I have three (technically five…long story) awesome cats that I love very much and put before all else! They’re names are Cirice (black, female, we pronounce it Cirrus due to a Ghost video we watched early in the fandom years ago), Dewdrop (cream/light orange, male, named after the unofficial name for Ghost’s lead guitarist), and Mochi (sphynx/hairless, male, named because he looks like he has rice ball skin lmao). The other two cats mentioned are cats I had when I lived with my grandpa and had to leave behind when I moved out! I still visit them frequently and make sure they’re well cared for though! They’re names are Wade (fluffy gray and white, male, named after Deadpool because he’s my hero) and Bruce (white, male, named after Batman to match Wade being Deadpool). All are spayed/neutered and three are shelter rescues!
- My personal triggers are cat deaths, harm, etc. so please tag them if we become mutuals! It’s not that other forms of animal death/abuse aren’t important (they bother me too), they’re just not a full blown trigger. Cats specifically send me into episodes of severe anxiety and depression
- My “just talking” tag is “the rest is all bullshit” so feel free to blacklist that if you’re just here for cats or memes or something!
ANYTHING ELSE?? I guess just ask me! I love to talk and my favorite things are currently the band Ghost, Walt Disney World, Ghostface (both Scream and DBD), and talking about my OCs! Also aside from Ghost my big fandoms are OFF, TF2, Rick and Morty, and MHA! There’s also a handful of nostalgic fandoms (like Homestuck) and various characters I adore, it’s just hard to list them all right now XD
OKAY I THINK THAT’S FINALLY IT!! Welcome to my blog!

TIM REREADS HOMESTUCK PART 1: PAGES 0-21
In which John messes around in his room for a bit, and I discover maybe the only reason for me to regret switching to a more privacy-focused web browser.
Liveblog Archive
First, while I wait for the Unofficial Homestuck Collection’s asset pack to finish downloading, some housekeeping to get out of the way:
First off, this is my fourth time reading Homestuck. Wait. Actually. Hang on. Is it my fifth? I’m writing this paragraph as I think this over, this isn’t a bit, I’m genuinely not sure. I guess I’m gonna have to go over it one reading at a time:
I was a serial reader, first catching up close to the end of Act 6 Act 6 Intermission 2 in 2013.
I read it all the way through for the first time in 2016, a couple months after it ended.
THIS is the one I wasn’t sure about. I feel like I remember rereading it in 2018? But I’m not really sure. I was thinking of looking way back in my browser history to check but I recently switched from Chrome to Firefox and can’t conveniently check on my desktop and mobile chrome doesn’t let you filter your history by date.
Another reread in 2020 because I was feeling nostalgic for it during initial covid lockdowns, appropriately I started on 4/13 this time around.
So there you have it, this is at least my fourth read-through of Homestuck.
Next up, the structure of this series of posts. My intent here is for this to eventually be a dialog of sorts with the podcast I’ve been listening to, Homestuck Made This World (I’ll just be referring to it as “the podcast“ from here on to keep things from getting too bloated). So first, I’ll be catching up to the point in the comic they’re covering (currently in the early parts of Act 6, about halfway through the comic). I’ll be publishing posts like this one as I go every couple days, whenever I feel like I’ve written enough. After I’ve caught up to the podcast, I’ll publish one post covering the same material that’ll be covered in the next episode, unless that makes the posts too long, in which case I’ll split it up into multiple posts. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. I’ll be tagging each post “#tim rereads homestuck” for convenient searching (or blacklisting) and will be keeping an archive post updated to make it easy to jump from one post to another.
As I alluded to above, since Flash is dead I’ll be using the Unofficial Homestuck Collection. This is essentially an app that lets you read the whole comic in a sort of offline browser of sorts, making Flash and other elements that may be unsupported in modern browsers work as intended. It has some features to make the experience even better than reading on homestuck.com would be, like inline music credits with links to the official bandcamp, a “spoiler free mode” to hide things that might spoil future events for archival readers, and even mod support to add things like author commentary and replace some of the slurs in the early parts of the comic. I’ll personally be running mods to add author commentary and news posts, as well as mods to translate things like that one morse code segment and Damara’s dialog in A6I3. This is my first time using the collection, so while this isn’t my first reread I do hope it’s my best!
Without further ado, let’s dive in:
The first thing you see when booting up the collection for the first time, after a brief intro page, is a list of content warnings. For whatever reason, Tumblr’s post editor won’t let me add text to a post after copy-pasting these, so I can’t show the full list. If I explicitly comment on anything that warrants a warning I’ll include it at the top of future posts. After that, there are some prompts to configure spoilers, locate the asset pack, and we’re off to the races!
Tumblr media
I’m not gonna screencap every page but I can’t not include the first one. It’s so iconic at this point!
Also, I learned listening to the podcast that the name “Zoosmell Pooplord” is a reference to an old AH webcomic called “Zoosmells”, which I’m... probably not gonna read as a part of this project.
Another comment relating to the podcast, one of the hosts says at one point that “Andrew Hussie is really good at describing a type of guy.” The description of a new character’s interests are always some of my favorite bits to read. They start to get a little silly after Act 5 but the early ones are great. I feel like a 13 year old with this exact set of interests probably existed somewhere lol
I didn’t react much to the fake arms bit as I obviously knew it was coming, but it was pretty funny the first time around, taking what you think is a joke about the art style and using it to mess with you and all that. I know now that this is a running gag of sorts in MSPA - I wonder how many of those I still don’t pick up on considering I haven’t read Problem Sleuth or the other adventures (Maybe I will at least read PS this time around but no promises).
Another quick note: I don’t have a whole lot of programming knowledge other than a little bit of Python from college - Homestuck basically is all I know about What Data Structures Are.
And a few pages later, we get the first perk of the collection: instead of linking to Youtube, the Con Air clips linked when John examines his poster are archived within the collection itself! I gotta say this is pretty terrific, I wonder how many jokes I forgot the punchline of because they depended on a dead link?
And with that, oh shit I have work in the morning and this post has gotten pretty long anyways. I’ll probably keep the next one in my drafts til I’ve read a somewhat decent chunk, but it shouldn’t be more than a couple days. Thanks for reading!

To celebrate the re-release of all the HS music on Bandcamp, here is a list (with links!) of my favorite HS music. There’s talent and heart in the vast Homestuck musicverse, and I highly recommend exploring it if you haven’t, returning to it if it’s been a while, and sharing your own favorites if they’re still in your mix today.
So here are my top 25 favorite Homestuck songs, including fan material:
In comic | On albums | On fan album* | Not in any collection**
Doctor | Candles and Potency** | Planet Healer | Pale Rapture | Trepidation | Voidlight / Whispers in the Voidlight** / Haven** |  Carne Vale | Austin, Atlantis / piano duet** | Crystalanthemums / Crystalguitarthemums* | The Lyrist | Skaian Birth / Skaian Dreams Remix / Skies of Skaia | Ascend | Terezi’s Theme | Sburban Jungle / Sburban Countdown | Renewed Return | Another Chance | Knight in Two Dreams** | Seer of Same-Colored Scalemate Combos** | Cuddlefish* | Purple Bard |  Forever / Beta Version / The Deeper You Go | Three in the Morning (RJ's I Can Barely Sleep In This Casino Remix) | Superego |  Skaia Ad Infinitum* | Dreamers and the Dead
Short but somehow very long descriptions of why I love each track under the cut:
1. Doctor | George Buzinkai | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 The original. The iconic. A genuinely haunting and atmospheric track, I think this was a big part of what really drew me into the story when first reading it.
2. Candles and Potency | Jeremy “Solatrus” Iamurri | (Youtube) I’ve posted this here before but like. This is still such a mystery to me. It was played as part of the stream leading up to the release of Volume 10. Why...was it not part of Volume 10. Why does it have no official release.  I live in terror this video source for it will be taken down. It’s a stunning remix of Candles and Clockwork (x / x). Listen to it all the way through - the piano bit is my favorite.
3. Planet Healer | Seth “Beetfox” Peelle | Homestuck Vol. 5 Changes the mood of Doctor from “mysterious” to “inviting.” Great soundtrack for a playable segment of the comic, great to listen to on its own.
4. Pale Rapture | The Black Curtain | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe B This song has a noticeable physiological calming affect on me. I also just like it.
5. Trepidation | Svix | Homestuck Vol. 9 Energetic and uplifting. One of my cheer-up songs.
6. Voidlight | Thomas Ferkol | Homestuck Vol. 10 (Whispers in the Voidlight / Haven) I think I’m okay admitting that I like the preview version of this better than the final - because I still like the final great deal. I like that Whispers in the Voidlight has less layer, but I like the ending that was added to Voidlight. I’m pretty happy having both versions in my mix. It is a very comforting song to me.
7. Carne Vale | Malcolm Brown | Cherubim Still gives me shivers. This was the standout for me when Cherubim was released, and I’m glad it was put in the comic later - it made [S] Game Over. more palatable.
8. Austin, Atlantis | Clark “Plazmataz” Powell | Homestuck Vol. 9 (Austin, Atlantis (piano duet)) I cried the first time I listened to this. That’s...a recommendation. Sometimes the titles of instrumental songs don’t affect my impressions of them on a conscious level, but this one definitely did, and I actually felt an emotion like looking at a sunken city that I used to be able to walk though. Both versions are very good.
9.  Crystalanthemums | Alex Rosetti | Homestuck Vol. 5 (Crystalguitarthemums* | Eric “Jit” Scheele | Land of Fans and Music 2) Another iconic leitmotif. I love the track itself, and Crystalguitarthemums is a fan release that has a similar mood of tranquility.
10. The Lyrist | Thomas "EidolonOrpheus" Ferkol | Cherubim I tended to skip the less exciting tracks on Cherubim at first, but now I love this for being sad and sweet and very pretty.
11.  Skaian Birth | Mark Hadley | Song of Skaia
(Skaian Dreams Remix | Homestuck Vol. 2 (original), Skies of Skaia | Mark Hadley | Homestuck Vol. 1-4) The “Skaian” motif is very magical sounding. Like Voidlight, I find Skaian Birth very comforting. As of the posting of this, the Song of Skaia album seams to have bean eaten by the mass-reuploading...I hope it gets reuploaded as well.
12. Ascend | Joren “Tensei” de Bruin | Homestuck Vol. 10 This was such a good medley track. It was so ambitious in how many motifs it tried to pull together, and the fact that Tensei said they were tackling a music style that they hadn’t seen much in HS music before...and it all paid off spectacularly.
13. Terezi’s Theme | Toby “Radiation” Fox | Alterniabound  What a great character theme. It’s pretty busy for a VG theme, but it seems to tell a whole story. I think it was The Lemonsnout Turnabout that established the harpsichord as a Terezi sound, and that was also a Toby Fox track, and it’s very effective.
14. Sburban Jungle | Michael Guy Bowman | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 (Sburban Countdown | Michael Guy Bowman | Homestuck Vol. 1-4) Early on I considered this just as iconic as Doctor, and I was surprised it didn’t get used more. (If you want to see it used effectively as a motif, check out #21 on this list.) It really helped the mood shift as the comic got more serious and dramatic.
15. Renewed Return | Marcy Nabors | Homestuck Vol. 10 Another great medley track. Whereas Ascend has kind of a party atmosphere, Renewed Return is solemn and dignified in a way that is very satisfying as a conclusion to a long narrative.
16. Another Chance | Eston Schweickart, Erik “Jit” Scheele | One Year Older Homestuck is freaking long, and very meandering, and I’ve forgotten many of the plot beats. But one way to remember them is if they have a killer tribute song. Another Chance always reminds me of a time when achieving god tier still felt like an incredible achievement, of how menacing Bec Noir was, and of the feeling of seeing a character resurrected. One Year Older appears to be another casualty of the reuploading...this was a beautifully cohesive solo album, and I hope it comes back somehow. Please give it another chance.
17. Knight in Two Dreams** | Malcolm Brown | (Tumblr) Hm. I think what I love about is that this track makes the time spent on the meteor feel real. The rhythm makes me thing of the passage of a lot of time. The music also makes me think of a sort of unease with being in close quarters with people and not being able to leave. And finally, it also has the sense it is waiting for something...as they are all waiting for their journey to be over.
18. Seer of Same-Colored Scalemate Combos | Alex Rosetti | (Tumblr) Speaking of Terezi’s harpsichord...This was the theme for a fun tile-swapping puzzle game made by insecureillustrator, which sadly I think is defunct now. In any event, the song is really fun.
19. Cuddlefish | Thomas Ferkol | Land of Fans and Music 2 Very sweet and calming. I like thinking of quieter moments in the HS multiverse, like the trolls started SGRUB.
20. Purple Bard | Gec | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A I wish I knew more music words because I want to say what I like about this song is...the...mixing?? It’s very immersive, there are a lot of layers to it that contribute to making it creepy and kind of hypnotic.
21. Forever / Beta Version / The Deeper You Go | Michael Guy Bowman | Moebius Trip and Hadron Kaleido The instrumental tracks on MTAHK all give me a sense of depth of time, the remoteness of Skaia and the Medium, and the cyclical nature of SBURB. Spooky. It all makes the story seem much bigger somehow.
22. Three in the Morning (RJ's I Can Barely Sleep In This Casino Remix) | Clark “Plazmataz” Powell, Robert J! Lake | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 I love this one largely because it is nostalgic from when I first got into Homestuck in 2012 and for a while only had Volumes 1-4 to listen to (I didn’t discover the Bandcamp page until later). It might have to do with the fact that it’s sandwiched between Sburban Jungle and Doctor on the album, but it’s a fun and yet soothing track.
23. Superego | Yan "Nucleose" Rodriguez | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A This captures a mood that I can’t put into words. I’m not sure if this was composed as a Vriska track, but if it wasn’t I’m glad it ended up as one, because it’s a feeling I don’t think any other song has.
24. Skaia Ad Infinitum | Andromeda's Cadre | Beforus This reminds me of all my old favorite DDR tracks. The melody makes me think of the changing Spirograph that represents Skaia.
25. Dreamers and the Dead | Thomas "EidolonOrpheus" Ferkol | Alterniabound This and Cuddlefish have always had a similar feeling to me (moreso than other Thomas Ferkol tracks). I like to think about exploring the dream bubbles as analogous to swimming through Alternia’s oceans.
Honorable mentions to Rustblood and It Be Like That Sometimes, which are only not on this list because they are technically Hiveswap and not Homestuck. If Homestuck really is continuing, and if there’s going to be more Hiveswap, I’m very much looking forward to more music.

Tagged by @mirrorfalls, hey dude.
Name: Olivia, not a secret but I’ve never liked it.
Nickname(s): Brawl is literally the only nickname I’ve ever had and I love it honestly.
Gender:  Can’t claim to understand the concept even after some little study.
Star Sign:  Capricorn
Current Time:  ............................exactly 4:00 a.m.
Favorite Artists: Calder, Vermeer; not leaving museum fodder or broadening the definition of “art” or we’d be here all day watching me fall apart like Chidi Anagonye trying to pick a hat.
Song Stuck in My Head: *pauses to listen to mental radio* “Caramelldansen” because I keep seeing memes, actively at war with “History Maker” because I’m rewatching YoI. That’s...certainly an otaku cocktail.
Last Movie I Saw: My brother and I coordinated to watch the 2000 Digimon movie. (We live in different states and hold movie nights over text.) It was bizarrely nostalgic despite my never having seen it or literally one minute of any other Digimon media before. It is just so aggressively a product of that year. I could have seen it. I cannot mentally place it into 2020; it has to be edited into ~2000 retroactively.
Last Thing I Googled: “discrete” to check if you can use it like “specific” without the connotation of “separate”. You cannot.
Other Blogs: Reference-saving blog here is ellipsisfolder. A couple empty side blogs, one that isn’t empty that I don’t want people visiting because I use it to save stuff for text post memes and post/reblog things I don’t want an audience for, like if I need a really quick and dirty way to send myself an image. I’m currently clusterfracas on Twitter, which I have basically never used for anything except that it’s recently make it easier to stay tuned in to the only corner of the Spider-Man fandom with opinions I agree with. Thinking of changing it to the same name as this blog for synergy, but it being the clean version of my favorite word (clusterfuck) and also a synonym for brawltogethernow if you tilt your head... Am I ready to give that up.
Do I Get Asks: Yes! I love you guys. Once in a blue moon I even finish answering them.
Reason for URL: An old note on my phone suggests I picked it from a huge pool of roughly Homestuck-username- style blends of words and phrases with common syllables. (brawl + all together now = brawl together now; philosophy + velociraptor = philociraptor) I vaguely remember drafting it? Noodling down all the combos I could come up with in...the schedule-filler law class I had last period of my senior year...? I’m not sure if I intended to use one or wanted to have them on hand for writing projects. I think it was basically doodling, actually. And I guess...I referenced it when I finally made an account? I’m glad I passed over the cutesier ones for one that’s vaguely violent.
Following: Apparently 77. Lots...of these...are dormant. I only follow stuff that updates so infrequently I know I'll forget it before it updates again, aesthetic/theme stuff I 100% jive with, and people whose social media I catch myself starting to check for updates constantly in rotation with the zombie-like refreshing of my blog activity/dashboard/e-mail. Otherwise I check blogs manually when I actually feel like it. Busy dashboard...ungood.
Average Sleep: Bad. I’m currently leveraging shelter in place to experiment with going along with when I naturally get tired and wake up -- which I thought I’d done before and always ended up with a somewhat fluctuating schedule of going to bed around sunset and waking up nine hours later, but I’ve realized that was actually still influenced by my drive to get up and go to bed as early as I could manage, and the concept of a 24-hour day. I’ve abandoned both of those and if I'm afraid to share the results. I think people would cry.
Lucky Number: 22, 9.
Currently Wearing: Artsy Threadless shirt of the TARDIS materializing, dark jeans, burgundy plaid overshirt, disintegrating open front sweater, purple and lavender socks with a landscape of pine trees, clouds, and a moose.
Dream Job: Non-specializing actor but sometimes Marvel calls and begs me to take a writing job for them and I graciously comply, also I have a webcomic and am a novelist and a princess-firefighter.
Okay not a princess-firefighter.
Dream Trip: Check any two: hot, city, ocean is nearby
Favorite Food: Sushi.
Instruments: Took piano for a few years at my own behest but didn’t get very good at it.
Favorite Song: Nah.
Tagging other people. I hate this part. XD ...Who do I owe at least one of these.... @phoenixyfriend @whetstonefires @lizasweetling (??) If you want to play please consider yourself tagged; this will probably get you tagged in the future.

ahsdhsj THNAK YOU
man its so fun reading this comic, im legit enjoying every part of it. yeah, its pretty long and tedious at times but if you find the right amount of will power and jokes, its fun the get through it. thats how i got through most of act 1, i started making jokes about the characters and the system of the sylladex (which STILL frustrates me) and then act 2 became the imp soap opera inside joke. glorious, let me tell you.
but im glad its giving you weird nostalgic vibes! maybe for me in a few years ill look back to 2019 the same way people look back to 2009. its endearing, i really love this community so far. you lot are legit so nice and sweet and its amazing. i can tell yall grew well with each other over time :)
on that note, of the “in complete dark about everything” i seriously, really do not know much about homestuck. can i PLEASE mention that out loud for you all. like nothing at all, or well barely, i just know its loved and it gets better. i knew about the introduction with a game and the apocalypse and there were aliens. but besides that, and also the image of a grey gremlin imp man who i guess we havent met but i will probably point out when i see him appear in the comic, i legit have no idea as to where the next 7000 pages will get me. im just gathering the kids will enter the game? theyll all beat their gates? dad will be rescued? and uhh more characters. but thats not my point, my point is that apparently im also weirdly good at predicting things??????? so much that people are getting suspicious that ive already read the fucking comic. kallies been laughing at me for the past DAYS because of that. apparently EVERYONE IS ON MY CASE ABOUT IT. there’s a list apparently being made about predictions i have said? and some are scarily accurate according to friends. but everybody refuses to tell me which one of my jokes are considered predictions. but then the thing is, EVERYTHING I MAKE IS A JOKE SO HOW AM I TO GUESS WHICH ONES I GOT RIGHT LMFAO. THERES SO MANY. I HAVE ALMOST 2000 POSTS, AT LEAST 10 OF THOSE ARE “ACCURATE PREDICTIONS ONLY A PROPHET WOULD KNOW”. not to mention im legit never serious. so i mess around with stuff and people think im actually being serious?? or maybe its just... idk im so confused as to what i could have said that ends up being the truth. id be really concerned if thats the case, if what i say becomes a fucking scene in the comic. bc id be appalled. i do not say the most considerate things. i mock around. i wouldnt know how to cooperate if that was true. you get what i mean? how brilliant do you all think i am to get things right??? bc if you ask me what my ACTUAL theory is for the comic, i will tell you and it will be so serious and if i then get THAT right, ill accept it. ill be like wow fucking amazing. but if i get to the next session and somehow there’s a circus in dad egbert’s fucking bedroom. im quitting. im stopping forever bc WTF.
anyways

Have you heard the story of bladekindEyewear the Blind?
In infinite folly, this man strapped knives to his eyeballs, depriving himself of sight. Nonetheless he was known as the wisest man in Homestuck Tumblr, with a wicked pack of classpect analyses. As Homestuck progressed through its lengthy sixth act, he developed a wide sleight of theories as to how it would end and what it would mean when it ended that way, focused most famously on each character's SBURB class and aspect (classpect for portmanteau).
When Homestuck ended, and then ended a second time, he turned out to be wrong.
In a recent post, he made this comment about his wrongness:
BlastYoBoots  04/26/2019:  part of why all my theories were wrong is that they were arrogant and misguided and just all-around regrettable and I thought I "knew" what Andrew morally wanted out of a story when he wasn't after the same thing at all
I bring this tale to your attention not to drag our Sosostris through the mud. In fact, I'd say he's unduly harsh on himself here. He may indeed have had a decent grasp of Hussie's moral purposes regarding Homestuck—in 2013. It has been a long six years since then, during which Hussie followed in the footsteps of other noted New England authors J.D. Salinger and Thomas Pynchon and vanished off the face of the planet. It would be fair to theorize that what Hussie "wanted" out of Homestuck changed considerably in those years. And the truth is, because Hussie has disappeared so utterly, any illusion of knowing his "moral" goals has completely dissipated. It's not even clear at this point how much of the Epilogues he wrote. What statements can possibly be made about authorial intent outside of baseless conjecture?
Mr. Eyewear had the unfortunate position of writing critical analysis of a work that was not yet finished, a position not often imitated by critics throughout the ages. It's relatively easy to look at a work by a long-dead author and make some grand, sweeping statement that "this is what it means." Because the author is literally dead, Death of the Author becomes much less controversial to apply. Even now, after the dust has settled, a new installment of Homestuck may unexpectedly arrive that obliterates any previous critical insight on what Homestuck "meant." Homestuck is ostensibly over, but the Epilogues left plenty of room for continuation.
Someone who read the previous Hymnstoke installments came to me and said (paraphrased), "Do you really think Hussie knows anything about Gnosticism? It's far more likely he googled it and used a few names here and there to sound smart." Thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be his modus operandi for the Pale Fire and Waste Land quotes I wrote so lengthily on in previous Hymnstokes as well. Wouldn't it make so much sense if Hussie googled "Literary quotes about April" and put in the Waste Land quote without ever having read the poem, without understanding its historical or literary context?
Would it matter?
Hussie may or may not be ignorant of literary history, or his own literary moment. In that Stanford interview he flatly denied any knowledge of "post-irony." But the author's ignorance doesn't excuse the work from the world. Homestuck itself is rapidly becoming a historical work, fading from the immediate cultural consciousness. Yet it has left a mark. How many works will be created in the coming years that draw heavy inspiration from Undertale, which itself was heavily inspired by Homestuck? And if we take Homestuck's most explicit inspiration to be Earthbound, what works inspired Earthbound? What works inspired the works that inspired Earthbound?
Whether Hussie knows what DFW stands for or not is inconsequential. Homestuck is not a work in a vacuum, neither the beginning nor the end. Con Air, the Greek Zodiac, Insane Clown Posse—whether the reader knows what those things are doesn't matter within the space of Homestuck, because Homestuck invented new meaning out of them all. Whether Hussie, the author, knew what Gnosticism, post-postmodernism, or Dadaism were—I would argue that is similarly inconsequential. Homestuck repurposed all of those -isms, either knowingly or unknowingly, into something new. It is the act of repurposing that is the most important part, not whatever those things were before.
So bladekindEyewear observed Homestuck through the lenses of knives strapped to his eyes. From that perspective, he conceived of what the facts (the text of Homestuck) "meant." I'll also be looking at Homestuck through a certain lens. Neither lens is the same as Hussie's lens. No lens except Hussie's can be Hussie's lens: that is something the postmodernists realized, that "truth" was fragmentary and differed from person to person. Perhaps even different within each person; the Hussie of 2013 may have a different lens than the Hussie of 2019. Put succinctly: No absolute truth exists.
But Homestuck, I feel, moves beyond the problems proposed by postmodernism. In Homestuck, differing lenses, even completely opposite lenses like "irony" and "sincerity," "science" and "magic," "time" and "space," or "author" and "reader" (as seen in the Epilogues) become blurred, indistinguishable, ultimately reconciled as essentially the same thing. It's that reconciliation that I think is Homestuck's most meaty—or candiey—thematic component.
With that in mind, let's continue.
Tumblr media
What is under the rug is much worse than any trap you can imagine.
It is a member of a species that you do not recognize, with a ghastly furred upper lip.
I don't even know who this is. Jeff Foxworthy? I guess I might not be a redneck.
Tumblr media
Soon these lugs will learn to show you some respect. You made this town what it is after all. Wasn't nothin' but a bunch of dust and rocks before you got here.
Okay. I was right. I knew it, all along when I was reading the Epilogues I knew something was off. I felt certain, and now it's been confirmed for me.
Homestuck does not use smart apostrophes, while the Epilogues did.
For those not in the know, a smart apostrophe is curved based on the text that comes around it, like so: ’
A regular apostrophe, by comparison, is not curved: '
As you can see in the quoted text, Homestuck proper uses your regular dumb apostrophes. Which is good, because smart apostrophes are the devil. They frequently get slanted the wrong direction and conflict aesthetically with Homestuck's monospaced, geometric Courier font. Yet all throughout the Epilogues, smart apostrophes are used. It drove me insane. I hate those things.
Tumblr media
Can't overthink this time stuff.
I guess I should actually talk about the Intermission. Internally, it's pretty straightforward, borrowing liberally from Problem Sleuth. But what exactly is its purpose? Yes, on a purely plot level, elements of the Intermission return in Act 5. Spades Slick remains a character who exists all the way until Collide, although he is one of the unfortunate casualties of Act 6's awful ending and is too dead to get any kind of relevancy redemption in the Epilogues, unlike similarly extraneous Act 6 characters Jane and Jake.
Fundamentally, then, the relevance of the Intermission extends only as far as Cascade, with elements malingering longer but never amounting to anything new. Many things will extend only as far as Cascade, which eventually becomes Homestuck's midpoint. In earlier Hymnstokes, I mentioned a few times that I didn't think I had much to say about Act 5. I said that because, while Act 5 is impressive from a technical standpoint, it's a lot less dense in meaning compared to early Homestuck or Act 6. It functions a lot like a machine with many perfectly-placed parts (or rather, parts that were retroactively made to look perfectly placed, depending on how improvisational you think Hussie wrote) that slot together like a machine, rifle, or clock to create a flawless cascade of storytelling. I'll talk more about this kind of "clockwork storytelling" when I actually get to Act 5, but for now one might consider the entire Intermission to be one of those perfectly-placed pieces, and the Spades Slick storyline culminates in Cascade to slot alongside the other pieces in a satisfying way.
One might also interpret the Intermission as a primer for certain elements that will become important in Homestuck proper, such as the aforementioned "time stuff" that gets its first real exploration here before becoming a convoluted but finely-wrought entanglement in Acts 4 and 5. Toss in vague foreshadowing to Lord English and the Intermission's existence is at least purposeful, regardless of whether one considers it necessary.
But what about structurally? I mentioned in the previous Hymnstoke that the Intermission is similar to Act 5 Act 1 and Act 6 Act 1 in that it dramatically downscales the tension, introduces a slew of new characters, and shakes up the tone of the story. Each of these three parts are nostalgic for "Old Homestuck," the Homestuck that is more like Problem Sleuth, and they feature many text commands and faffery like what you see in Act 1. By juxtaposition, then, each emphasizes how far Homestuck has developed across its run, and the differences only become more striking each successive iteration.
The Intermission is probably the fragmenting point. In Homestuck proper, there are no more kids to introduce. John, Rose, Dave, Jade, for each of them we've cycled through the database-structured INTERESTS and INSTRUMENTS and WEIRD PARENTAL FIGURES. Bit by bit that kind of content will vanish in favor of a new sort of storytelling, and the Intermission is where it becomes obvious that this is happening. Jade's introduction already subverted most of the established tropes, and the Intermission reads like a parody of them, with the Midnight Crew's set of traits being plaintively ridiculous (each keeping a different kind of candy in their backup hat, each having a different kind of smutty material, et cetera). Act 5 Act 1 will also be parodic in its approach to these database traits, but I think in a less effective way, as the differences between the kids and the trolls are less extreme than the differences between the kids and the Midnight Crew. Furthermore, the Intermission really drives the nail into the coffin of Problem Sleuth, severing Homestuck finally from its predecessor. Act 6 Act 1, by comparison, is more of a wistful yearning for Act 1 than any kind of new take—which might itself be meaningful in the grand scheme of things.
Tumblr media
Still, it might come in handy down the road. Lord English is supposedly indestructible. He's rumored to be killable only through a number of glitches and exploits in spacetime. The doll may ultimately help you work the system if it comes to that.
This line, along with the way Problem Sleuth ended, was probably the primary driver that led to people expecting a final boss fight with Lord English on par with the one with Mobster Kingpin. Although the Epilogues were a fantastic ending, it's still underwhelming to think about just how poorly-conceived Collide and Act 7 turned out to be. Of course, the Problem Sleuth sort of ending is definitely more of a "clockwork" storytelling style, and Act 6, as has become clear by now, has a much different style.
Dirk, the ultimate inheritor of the clockwork style—he specifically describes storytelling in terms of machines—has as one of his INTERESTS robotics and technology. Lord English, likewise, is surrounded by a clockwork motif. Of course, these characters will eventually become explicitly linked via the method of Lord English's creation. But unlike many other INTERESTS, which turn out to be irrelevant, this machinery fascination ties in to Homestuck's final thematic dichotomy. But more on that when we reach the Epilogues.
Tumblr media
29/1000 CLOCKS DESTROYED
I guess we know what side of the dichotomy Spades is on.
Tumblr media
This is the same calendar Dirk has in his apartment in Act 6. I remember I once had this theory that the Midnight Crew would be reunited at the end of Homestuck even though the B2 Hegemonic Brute was dead because it would be revealed that Hearts Boxcars was still in Dirk's calendar and would come out riding Dirk's mini Maplehoof.
I don't know why I had this oddly specific theory, and it was probably obvious it wouldn't happen.
Tumblr media
And thus ends the intermission, with an eye toward the next bizarre deviation in the storyline (Act 5 Act 1).
It's been awhile since I last read Homestuck. My memory of Act 4 is dodgy, so I might actually stumble upon something new. But as I mentioned earlier, the Intermission is the big, obvious breakpoint between the old, Problem Sleuth style of Homestuck and the new, clockwork style. The database-driven character creation will gradually fall away (minus a parodic revival in Act 5 Act 1) and narrative elements will become more consistently introduced with an eye specifically toward Cascade. For many people, this is when Homestuck starts to "get good," and I think it's because there's something innately satisfying about a finely-crafted machine slotting into place. There is a kind of intrinsic beauty about it, art for art's sake if you will, and that is also what seems to draw Dirk toward it.
But more next time.

i’m feeling nostalgic about the last decade of my life so here’s a post reminiscing on that and a bit about why i am the way i am i guess... it got kinda philosophical as i wrote it... feel free 2 ignore bc it is relevant to literally nothing at all and is very disorganized but if you wanna read it that’s cool too! it doesn’t encompass every little thing that happened to me or even most of the things i was into over time but i think i covered all the major events and influential media
please like the post if you read it!
sad animal stuff tw
the 2010-2019 decade encompassed all of my teens so obviously i did a lot of growth as a person. and got 4 inches taller. but im proud of what i have improved on in spite of my shortcomings and some traumatizing things that have really set me back a bit.
at the start of the decade, my family living together was me, my parents, and our four cats: star, sara jane, ditto, and jefferson.
2010: i turned 13 years old in february. i was a volunteer at the public library in the town i lived in, so i got to see all my friends every wednesday. i was starting to get really into anime and getting out of star trek which i’d been obsessed with since like 2008. deviantart was my social media of choice and i met one of my best friends, daniel, this year and we’re still friends to this day. irl however, because of the recession, and the fact my dad had lost his job in 2008, we lost the house we were living in (foreclosure) and had to pull up stakes and move 5 hours away to far south texas (the rio grande valley), close to the mexico border, to live with my grandma in 2011.
2011: i turned 14 years old in february. 4 days later is when my parents and i, with the help of my uncle, moved everything including three of our four cats. one of our cats, star, we had to give to a shelter bc she had severe depression after we lost another of our cats, oliver, in 2007. she couldn’t take care of herself properly and we couldn’t afford to groom her etc any more. living in the valley was a bit neat at first but quickly became severely depressing. i obviously had no friends there since i was homeschooled and the libraries were... a bit lacking, so there was no hope in me volunteering. we were living with my grandma and things got a bit rough, she accused the cats of bringing in fleas (they didn’t have fleas before we moved there) so they had to stay in the garage, and relations between ourselves and her got a bit turbulent. my mom called her mother and we arranged for she and i to go live with her (a 9 hour drive away, the dfw metroplex) in june. my dad stayed in the valley to finish the college course he was taking. i remember i was very into sailor moon and megaman at the beginning of the year and... hetalia at the end... i was 14, okay? i also started my original tumblr account this year.
2012: i turned 15 years old. i was very happy this year, discovering my interests etc and just genuinely having a good time. i volunteered at a locally owned health food store a short bike ride from where i was living, and helped them clean up shelves and process orders once a week in exchange for a meal from the store. the two owners of the store were super nice to me and helped me out quite a bit as i was going through my late teens. i was WAY into homestuck and ace attorney and when my dad moved up with us that summer, we got really into fullmetal alchemist together. i had seen most of the 2003 anime when i was 13 but never finished it, so he and i finished that and brotherhood together. i was super obsessed with kimblee and gained a reputation on tumblr for being obsessed with him. i also gained a reputation on tumblr for laughing at this gif for 37 years. i also started dating my first girlfriend this year and things were good for a while. i was a bit emotionally unstable online but i kept myself in check irl. in december i got into an anime called inazuma eleven...
2013: i turned 16 years old. “dropped out” of tenth grade (still homeschooled so basically just stopped doing my work bc it was boring and not engaging.) inazuma eleven took over my life. i was completely obsessed. i remember little else about 2013 other than going to my first anime convention (a-kon in dallas) and meeting one of my tumblr friends, the person who got me into inazuma eleven. i also got very into vintage anime this year but i sincerely don’t remember a lot else. things again got turbulent where my parents and i were living (mental illness runs in my mom’s side of the family) and things were pretty horrible so i locked myself in my room almost all of the time unless the weather was cool enough for me to ride my bike around town. my love for desarm from inazuma eleven kept me going through the latter half of this year and became iconic in my tumblr circles much as my love for kimblee was. speaking of kimblee and desarm, for this year and 2014, several of my friends made their icon kimblee in 2013 and desarm in 2014 for my birthday. it’s a very small gesture and this was a long time ago but it’s something i’ll definitely never forget. i also got really into the x-files this year, my parents were obsessed with it in the 90s and gave me the middle name anderson because of gillian anderson. so it only makes sense that eventually i would vibe with it.
2014: i turned 17 years old. my parents finally had started saving enough money for us to get out and that spring we moved to an apartment. my previously mentioned friend that got me into inazuma cut me and several other friends off without a word and this has continued to give me trust issues especially concerning making new friends. my parents had to give up one of our cats to a shelter since the apartments had a two pet limit, and unfortunately the one that had to go was the oldest, my best friend, ditto. i did very poorly the rest of the year and into the next. however, this was also the year i discovered my favourite anime (galaxy express 999) and my favourite band (the b-52s) so it wasn’t too terrible. i also met one of my best friends, ash, irl (we had been friends on tumblr since 2012) and through them i also met another one of my best friends, elijah. i also met ANOTHER one of my best friends, conner, this year through the health food store. i inherited my parents’ x files media collection which included literally 7+ year’s worth of newspaper clippings, books, magazines, tapes, etc, including one fundamentally prophetic item. i got super into yu-gi-oh at the very end of the year.
2015: i turned 18 years old. i was so mentally and emotionally gunched that i had to break up with my girlfriend, we remained friends for a while but admittedly i wasn’t very good to her which i regret because she was one of the better people in my life at this time. my little yu-gi-oh obsession kept me going for a while, and i’d pepper in some of the retsupurae videos on youtube for a chuckle. through them i got obsessed with two dos games from the 1990s, darkseed and darkseed 2, and though /those/ i became obsessed with my favourite artist, h.r. giger. in the summer, we got this new channel on tv that showed vintage game shows 24/7 and i watched it super religiously. like, it was really crazy. one of the game show hosts in particular, bert convy, completely captivated me. something about his mannerisms and voice always soothed me and i always found myself looking forward to his shows being on.
2016: i turned 19 years old. i got my first real job which i am still at currently, and quit working at the health food store. i started volunteering at a-kon and made great new friends. i was obsessed with 1990s sonic the hedgehog games and media for whatever reason the first half of the year. i also spent a lot of time researching things about bert convy’s life and projects he worked on, and he really inspired me to keep going. it was just wild to me, a famous person that didn’t spend their whole life doing only one thing... it soothed my uncertainty about my own life. with my fresh hot new paychecks coming in i started buying myself merch and cosplays i had always wanted... including things related to a series i was just getting super into again: inazuma eleven. i also remember getting into mystery science theatre 3000 this year (see the link in the 2014 paragraph) as it held nostalgic value for being present in the majority of my early childhood memories - my dad would constantly have it on whenever he was home from work circa 1999-2001 and i always remember loving the theme song and ending theme but getting frustrated bc in my head it was just sesame street for adults. try again in 16 years i guess.
2017: i turned 20 years old. i don’t remember a lot about this year other than our other two cats getting old and sick and passing away a few months apart. it was very stressful for me as i had never in my life lived without cats around. it took over a year for me to even be able to look at cat photos without feeling upset. i also had the worst food poisoning of my life this year and was actually convinced i was going to die because it was so violent and lasted so many days. another thing (this time it’s good) that happened this year is my parents and i finally all got decent phones and we all became addicted to pokemon go and still are. i also started dating my third girlfriend late in the year (idr when i dated my second bc it didn’t last long lol. but we are still very close friends) and she got me into monster factory.
2018: i turned 21 years old. got my GED without studying for it bc im that bitch. living at the apartment sucked absolute ass bc our neighbours were shite. so we moved to a duplex from the 1980s and it rocked. this year i was really REALLY into inazuma eleven again and made a bunch of friends in the fandom. i also became obsessed with vintage bollywood this year, particularly anything madhubala was in. one of my new managers at work and i became really good friends because we were both really into pokemon go. my third girlfriend and i broke up and it was a massive blow to my trust and self esteem and after this i had an even harder time really making new friends or talking to anyone. but that’s okay, because i’m about to get really into orange is the new black and it’s gonna change a lot. see the link in the 2014 paragraph again.
2019: i turned 22 years old. i spent january and february doing little else but binging orange is the new black. i was obsessed. this is when i started to have the really weird and kind of bad prison dreams. my favourite character was red, the russian lady running the kitchen. i was so so so in love with her that i had to find out what else the actress was in. uh oh! star trek voyager! i had never seen any star trek besides tos and tng so i made the plunge and loved it immediately. the characters of voyager became like a family to me. my friends from the inazuma fandom and i ended up having some pretty severe creative differences but voyager helped me take the blow of losing all that friendship because it helped me realize there’s so much more out there. i was (and still am) deeply in love with captain janeway, in spite of not always agreeing with everything her character did. her morally grey demeanor made her so much more real to me. my love for voyager was also boosted by the fact that my manager friend that played pokemon go with me also loved voyager and it was his favourite trek. in june i found a star trek cosplay group that wrote their own stories and made little fake “episodes” with the cosplay photos and i thought it sounded fun so i joined and am now the ship’s counselor. i was convinced by the captain to watch deep space nine in spite of me not wanting to, so as to further my st universe knowledge. i absolutely hated it at first but a character named odo grew on me quickly. i had to quit my job due to an abusive manager and was severely depressed over the summer but once that manager finally got fired, my manager friend rehired me with a good raise. ds9 as a series grew on me a lot more and i ended up making another one of my best friends, boss, because of it. i’ve made lots of other good friends because of trek too but because of what happened with the inazuma friend group i’m still a bit wary of others unfortunately. but overall i’m very happy that things led me to getting back into star trek again, odo and janeway both fill me with so much love that they keep me going. things aren’t perfect in my life but i’m very happy i have them, my parents, and my friends. also i’m really obsessed with vintage bollywood again. to be continued next decade

Homestuck Epilogues - Meat - Page 3
Live reaction to page 3 of the Meat Epiloge beneath the Read More.
Let's see if my theory was correct that the next page will show John's first stop on his new journey... Let's see if he indeed ends up in the B2 session just prior to the events of [S] GAME OVER taking place or if there's some kind of psyche!
==>
Yessss, we're indeed following John again!
"It takes you a moment to recognize where you are, even though Rose’s instructions were very specific. A place bright and gaudy and filled with the stench of teenage ennui."
Well, that explains basically nothing. :P
"It’s your old living room on the gold battleship, where you spent three years caught up in a lot of weird, furry romantic drama while learning to unlove everything you once held sacred."
Oh man, on the Prospitian Battleship!
Well, that's indeed on LOMAX like I theorized earlier, though not the exact spot I was imagining. I was imagining it would have been on a place featuring both John and Rose, when they'd all just met up on LOMAX.
Well, alright then. In that case, the question is: when is this taking place? Is this indeed around the time of [S] GAME OVER, or is it sometime earlier?
I mean, if for some reason he had to go back all the way to the 3-year trip, "punch her in the face" could still account for Jade or Nannasprite, but I highly doubt it. :P
Then that leaves indeed my original theory... Aranea! The question is, does he need to punch her HERE, or was the battleship just an anchoring point for John now to leave and go outside to LOMAX or something?
Because if John does have to punch her here... then it seems like this will be taking place IMMEDIATELY after Aranea just got turned back to life! So just prior to when she could set all her plans into motion, well, other than having Gamzee deliver the ring to her.
Which reminds me... Gamzee will be here too then! Oh man, but if John punches Aranea in the face HERE... then Aranea will lose her concentration and lose control over Gamzee right? Which would allow him to break free far earlier than he originally did... Oh dear.
"Years that, technically speaking, never even happened, now that you think of it. You have the very retcon powers that just brought you back here to thank for that."
I was kind of confused what he meant here, but yeah, he's actually referring to his post-retcon self who never actually spent much time here. It doesn't really refer to himself of course, who did spend 3 years on that ship, with the pre-retcon version of Jade.
"You barely have time to take in the sick, nostalgic feeling that all the globes and Tangle Buddies and avant-garde mime art evokes. The fridge pops open and out roll Aranea and Gamzee. Gamzee honks and his codpiece jiggles ominously"
OH SNAP, HERE THEY ARE!!!! It's indeed this EXACT moment!
Oh boy... where is this gonna go???
I mean, if John punches Aranea, then what? What does he need to do next? Simply go find his friends, round them up, and go after Lord English?
"Aranea staggers to her feet, looking rather pleased with herself. Until she notices you and gapes in bewilderment. ARANEA: What are you doing here?!"
And here we go!!! Right then and there this version of Aranea's plan falls completely into the water.
"You make a fist, and sort of flinch and look away when you do it. No matter how many years you’ve spent living on a planet with absolute gender parity, this feels wrong. Still, you hit Aranea pretty fucking hard, underestimating your own strength just as badly as you did the last time you clobbered a hapless Serket. She goes flying back, hits the couch, and KOs instantly into a pile of Smuppets."
I love how this description makes it perfectly clear just what a normal Homestuck panel would be portraying right here. As in, the often reused image of someone punching someone else in the face, sending them sliding (Kanaya with Vriska, Vriska with Andrew, John with Vriska...)
"You then take her wrist in your hand, slide the ring off her finger"
WHOA HOLD THE FUCK ON THERE.
John's REMOVING the Ring of Life from Aranea... this means we're instantly going to get an answer to the million dollar question everyone's been asking for a long time: what happens if the Ring of Life is removed from a person who was revived from the dead?
It was made deliberately unclear in the Game Over timeline whether removing the Ring of Life from Aranea would have sufficed for The Condesce to kill Aranea or not.
And we've never known if technically Calliope could be capable of removing the ring and staying alive.
So that's something we're probably gonna find out right now!!!
Also, I have a feeling that by the time John turns around to address Gamzee, the clown's already gone running.
Next question to ask by the way: what will John do with the Ring of Life???? It's not gonna be used for Aranea NOR for Calliope this time around, so who will it belong to now? Did Rose have a plan for that?
"> Isn’t there something you’re forgetting?"
GAMZEE FUCKING MAKARA. DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON HIM.
"Gamzee stares up at you with his horrible, limpid eyes. There’s something serene, sinister, and sensual all at once about the look he’s laying on you"
Phew, he hasn't gone running yet!
But... huh? So he hasn't snapped out of the mindcontrol yet?
Also, yeah, I can imagine exactly what look he's making right now, the one he continuously made while under mind control.
"Do everyone a favor and put an end to his preposterous narrative relevance."
UUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHMMMMM
Jooooooohn
You're not going to do what I think you're gonna do, right? This is going to fail spectacularly, right?
"You wisely decide that this clown will lend nothing valuable to the narrative whatsoever if he is allowed to remain outside of your childhood refrigerator."
Pffff, okay. So he decided to do the same thing that Vriska did to him in the post-retcon timeline.
"He goes easily, issuing only a pair of weak honks in protest. You slam the fridge shut and resolve to never think about Gamzee Makara again."
...Really? That's gonna be the last of him?
I...I'm not even sure. They kind of did that exact thing in the post-retcon timeline, but the question is if that's gonna work this time. :P
"> Zap to the next plot point."
Wait whaaaaat? So John's not staying here in this moment?
Where the hell is he off to next? This is kind of like Terezi's retcon quest for John all over again.
Okay, I really got no clue where John's going next. But it seems like all he truly needed from this timeframe was the Ring of Life!
I do wonder if we're at some point gonna go back to this new retconned timeline however. Does John perhaps need to change some other factors about the original pre-retconned timeline?
But wow, that was the end of this page! This was a short one.
I bet that next page we'll be back to stuff happening on Earth C? Kind of like how during John's retcon quest with Terezi we also kept switching to stuff in the Dreambubbles.
I wonder if we're gonna continue with Karkat's run for presidency, or if we're gonna get a look at someone else now.

Other blogs: Well there's my main @/desdetfo or also @/positive-inazuma-doodles but nobody is requesting anything soo i guess I won't really post anything until someone needs a doodle
Do i get asks: Hmm not really, unless i make an ask game or ask people to request some doodles (ask me... stuff if you want.... i love talking..). I got some asks about my url around the time the Alexa meme went viral (some people said my name reminded them of despacito)
Why did I choose this url: Desdetfo is a word in my dialect and this is my ina sideblog so i added the -

ACT 1: The Short One (Page 1 - 272)
I finished act 1 in a few hours. It was pretty short and sweet and charming. There are essentially four characters.
John Egbert: He’s, for lack of a better term, the protagonist of this act. We briefly switch view points, but we essentially see the world through his eyes. John Egbert lives in a house with his widowed father who has a strange fascination with clowns (sorry, harlequins) and pastry. John Egbert himself has a taste for bad films, pranks, programming and games. I find John very relatable in the sense that I too am a terrible programmer and find data structures to be a stressful and difficult topic. Also, I try to be very funny often, which is both my greatest strength and greatest weakness.
John Egbert’s father: a widowed man who is very classy in dress and has an interest in the amusing (at least, one can only assume so from all the clowns in the house), but works a boring job professionally. He has no lines in the first act I think. I like him a lot. I think you can tell he really loves his son, but he exhibits this in a strange manner. By baking pies and giving a huge harlequin doll. I’m probably reading too much into this, but baking is a time consuming activity and he does it every day apparently.
TentacleTherapist: I had to look up her name, because it doesn’t come up that often and I’m terrible with names. Her name is Rose Lalonde and she is a very private person. We see her perspective for a while and one could argue that actually most of the perspective is what we see through her laptop (the joke where she places the cruxtruder in front of the door works, because we actually don’t have the information that there’s a door there from that perspective.) She and John and the third friend on pesterchum are all three very witty and exchange witticisms and banter that I have no recollection doing when I was 13, but really sometimes verisimillitude is perhaps not the most important thing in the world when you’re making a web comic about the end of the world. She is very artistic and all of the jokes where we’re not allowed to investigate her room made me randomly think of this scene from Jojo.
Tumblr media
(side note, do not feed your dog grapes or raisins, they are poisonous to them.) Essentially she’s another main character and very meticulous and can play a mean violin. She also lives with her mother who presumably tortures Rose by collecting images of silly wizards.
I have not much to say on the fourth character. They are only in the chat logs and I forgot their user handle even. Rose should stop trying to hit on them, though. The plot is simple enough: the world is about to end due to shenanigans and a series of mysterious and mundane tasks may prevent the end of the world, but the only people who can do it are children who are limited in their freedom and have to deal with an extraordinary amount of bullshit. The core of this chapter is the comedy which does it really well. I was also kind of nostalgic for the days where I spent way too much time on msn messenger, because that is blatantly what pesterchum is. I am kind of curious where this is heaidng towards. I have one question: where are the trolls? I was thoroughly convinced, homestuck was about a bunch of trolls with strange names like Terezi, Vriska and Karkat. That is all that comes to mind after I have read the chapter a few days ago. Future posts will probably be more coherent (or at least less incoherent) and I may take notes or something. Thanks for your time and have a nice day.
