Carmen Sandiego Hilda AU (or rather carulia sketchbook AU)
I might pull my own rug by writing this before finishing s4 but hear me out. Johanna as Carmen Sandiego and Kaisa as Julia. Even their colour schemes match a little
VILE is mostly the Trolberg Safety Patrol. Except for Dr. Bellum, who is, of course, Victoria Van Gale
Johanna was being trained to be a part of the patrol, before realizing the corruption inside and not only dropping out, but also deciding to fight it
With support, of course, from her best internet friend, Alfur. Invisible nerd who whispers in your ear vibes lol
Her real life best friend would be Gerda, I think (she’s better than the rest of them even if she does still collaborate for their injustice and the maintenance of their system). Poor girl got her memory erased tho. Too loyal to the patrol, unfortunately
As for Zack and Ivy, I’m not really sure... maybe Hilda and David? Johanna found these two kids trying to fend for themselves on one of her capers and decided it was adoption time
Of course, let us not forget the older wise man who used to teach Johanna, but then betrayed the villains and began helping her with her capers, the Bellkeeper
Zack bugging shadowsan for ninja training —-> Hilda bugging the Bellkeeper for info on how to track woff migration paths
On the other hand, ACME would be the witch community watching Johanna and deciding that she was affiliated with VILE. I feel like their actions would be less related to stealing and more to treatment given to magical creatures, but this depends on how AU-y we make this
There is, of course, one agent/witch who notices the patterns in Johanna’s plans and believes in her innocence, that being Kaisa.
Come on, Kaisa with a suit. I know you want that too
She is usually accompanied by her partner, a witch in training... Frida. Okay I know I’m doing Frida SO DIRTY by comparing her to Devinaux, and Johanna would probably end up in jail in like two days if that were the case, but the roles kind of match and you have to admit that Frida is stubborn 😭
(Major season 3/4 spoilers) Eventually Kaisa leaves ACME, because she’s had enough of their anti-Johanna bs, to teach about magic and magical creatures, and this leads to her getting involved with Johanna’s operations. Also to getting captured by the patrol/VILE, but that is beside the point
No seriously you guys. Just imagine the “To Steal Or Not To Steal” business but with sketchbook. Imagine Kaisa wearing Johanna’s coat and looking at the mirror going “I’m Johanna and I’m here to make your day.” and then BLUSHING when she gets some roses from her. Imagine it.
OH Kelly the Marra has major Tigress vibes me thinks
ANYWAYS I veered off the tracks here, at some point Frida, of course, realizes Johanna is one of the good guys and goes back to working with Kaisa
Just. Johanna and Kaisa flirting while being nerdy and stopping villains. Just think about it

My starter in Digimon Cyber Sleuth is currently having an identity crisis as I try to get his ABI up to evolve him into Cherubimon. I had to drag my poor Terriermon into a freaking Gegemon evolution at one point, and he’s currently running through Armadillomon’s evolutionary tree. This is one of the most visceral experiences I’ve had in a monster collecting game. I gave him a nickname so that I could keep track of who he actually was as I cycled through evolutions. I don’t know why this is freaking me out so bad, but it feels like I’m trying to turn a friend back into their true self, and they have to suffer some body horror on the way. It’s really interesting. I never had this feeling in WoFF, despite you being able to do the same thing with the evolution mechanics.
I’m also deliberately going for Megidramon for my Guilmon, and he’s suffering a similar fate, though the forms he’s been taking have at least remained draconian. Right now he’s GeoGreymon. I just feel really attached to all of my monsters when I put them through this, and I’m like “OMG, we’ll get your ‘true’ form, buddy! Just hold on!”
When I complete the dex, I’m definitely going to just keep a bunch of the forms I like the most, like Growlmon, Gomamon, etc. And I am so glad that they don’t have to hold an everstone or something to keep from transforming. You just go to the lab and pick their form, and they stay that way until you choose to change it.
I’m really glad I got this game. I can’t wait for Digimon: Survive next year.

i finally watched all of zack’s world of final fantasy scenes and spoilers under the cut for those of you who haven’t seen that yet i guess
i’m so mad we didn’t even get a zack/cloud reunion afTER HE SPENDS HIS ENTIRE FIRST SCENE RELIVING HOW IMPORTANT CLOUD IS TO HIM,,, and after he’s gotta be convinced to go see cloud instead of trying to be ‘kind’ and never seeing him again so as not to cause more pain. sidenote that murdered me. zack, ever-so-casually: HAHA guess im gonna leave instead of seeing cloud now that im resurrected or whatever, bye guys! i gotta shoulder my burdens alone!!!! --- and him having to be convinced that it’s okay to share these burdens and get through shit together??? my heart. my poor son. where was the zack/cloud reunion scene after all that huh. where. UNLESS IM MISSING SMTH AND ITS JUST NOT ON YOUTUBE? HM. i also kinda wish,,, both of his scenes hadn’t just been him replaying things from his life? like. replays his death and repeats all his lines from it. then replays his meeting w/ aerith and replays all his lines from that too? GIVE POOR RICK GOMEZ SOME NEW THINGS TO SAY. ( kudos to that man for his eternally on-point zack voice acting though ). i mean, zack calling serah an angel and doing his whole ‘u saved me, i gotta repay u, wink wink’ thing is great and all but. GIVE HIM NEW LINES. and maybe to,, someone more receptive than serah. LIKE IN WOFF, SHE’S ENGAGED TO SNOW STILL. zack baby please she’s engaged. i’m so tired of final fantasy painting him as this eternally unlucky in love dude who flirts with ppl who aren’t interested. BUT ANYWAY. i love my son and im still happy for an extra like ten minutes of zack content.

Lost in the Wilderness - Chapter 3
Hilda Fanfiction
Summary: Hilda goes on a Sparrow Scout camping trip, only to find that Ahlberg, along with Captain Gerda Gustav, is also attending. Ahlberg has yet to speak with Hilda about the events of the night the Trolls attacked Trolberg. He’s had plenty of chances to thank her, he hasn’t, and Hilda has just about had enough of it. She thinks her camp can't get any worse. Until she and Ahlberg get lost in the Wilderness together and must find their way home.
First Chapter
***
Erik sat upright, a hand to the side of his head. "Ow," he said, hoping that was all Hilda had heard and not what he'd said on impact. She would be mad at him, and a part of him that he pushed down told him that wasn't so undeserved.
She lay on her belly a few feet from the downed Woff. "Hilda?" Erik stood up, wincing as his bruised body protested. "Hey, are you okay?" He put a hand on her shoulder and gently shook her.
Hilda jerked upright and slapped him off. "What's wrong with you? I told you to be gentle!"
"Are you all right?
Hilda turned away. "Oh, no."
The Woff lay on its side, unmoving. Hilda rushed to its side and pushed her hands through its fur. "Hey, Woff? We're sorry. We didn't mean to ride you so hard. You can get up now?"
Erik's stomach tightened. First, a Troll. Now a Woff? They weren't even dangerous, and he'd never thought so, even when he'd believed most things out here were a threat to Trolberg. He hadn't even tried to spin their presence into some kind of threat to public safety, mainly because, even then, it had felt wrong. He'd been riding the poor thing fine, and then he just had to… do what he seemed to do best.
"He took quite a tumble," Erik said, clearing his throat as he marched to Hilda's side. "My head's still spinning. I'm sure he's just dazed." He heaved a shoulder into the beast's side. "Come on, you. Come on…"
With a sudden bellow, the Woff spun around, struck Erik across the cheek with its tail, and then flew off.
Erik put a hand to his face and blinked back tears. He wasn't sure if that had been intentional on the part of the animal. But, he was reasonably sure he'd deserved it. "See," he said, a little thickly. "He's fine."
Hilda spun to face him. "No, he's not. Look at how he was flying. You still hurt him!"
"I… look. You should have seen what I did to the family car the first time Mother took me driving. It happens."
"I told you to be gentle!" There were tears in Hilda's eyes as she cut over him. "But you were just… all you were thinking about was how you wanted to be Erik Ahlberg flying a Woff! Were you going to tell some story back at camp about how you figured it out for yourself, or you saved me, or…"
"Hilda, he's okay."
"Just like the city was okay? You're… how can you be so stupid?"
Erik swallowed hard and looked away. If being corrected by a child wasn't bad enough, the knowledge that she was right, like the night the Trolls had attacked Trolberg, hurt. This time at least, he wasn't so caught up in himself that he couldn't see that. "I'm… I'm sorry," he forced out. "You're right. I didn't listen to you. I'm working on it, okay?"
Hilda's attack died on her lips, and she stared at him.
Erik cleared his throat. "Do you know where we are?"
Hilda shook herself a little. "I'm not sure. You were the one flying." She paused with a frown and picked something up off the ground. "Is this what I made you drop?"
Erik's shoulders slumped as the item caught the moonlight.
"You're medal?" Hilda held it up with a raised eyebrow. "We're on a camping trip. Why have you got this with you? You realise that's just… really weird?"
Erik flushed and held out his hand.
Hilda slapped it into his palm. "Well, you wouldn't want to lose it or anything, would you?"
"No. Of course not," Erik said dryly. He wanted to drop the medal, right wherever the hell they were. But Hilda was right there, and she would ask questions. So he shoved it back in his pocket.
"Well, I still don't think I know where we are."
"I don't know either. That's why I asked. I think we're on the other side of the valley. So, we just need to think about this logically, right? Trolberg must be…" Erik spun around and then pointed. "That way!"
"You can't just pick a random direction and act like it's right."
"I was Captain of the Safety Patrol, all right? I know you don't think much of that…"
"For good reason."
"… but, there is some expectation that a Safety Patrol officer be able to navigate should he or she find themselves lost in the Wilderness. We even have a whole, rather long procedure…."
Hilda groaned. "Get to the point. Where does the procedure say Trolberg is?"
"It doesn't say where Trolberg is. It just says, actually…" Erik groaned, and his shoulders slumped. "I may have asked Gerda to summarise it for me. So, I'm not sure."
"Well, seeing as Captain Gustav actually seems to know what she's doing, I'm guessing her summary would be fine. So what did that say?"
Like he needed more reminders he'd had no idea what he'd been doing. He could easily make something up as he had so many times before. But, damn it all, they were actually lost in the Wilderness, and he needed to get both himself and this child home. Lying would only help his ego, and he'd promised himself he'd stop with all that crap.
Erik folded his arms across his chest and turned aside a little. "I don't know," he said tersely. "I didn't bother reading her summary."
"Seriously?"
"Hey, I heard that noise you made when I mentioned a procedure! Yes, they're just as dry as they sound. Not like your 'essay', at least that was interesting. A real adventure…" The mountains towered around them. The night sky was lit only by the moon and stars; no glow of city lights. They were very much in the Wilderness. Lost. Erik knew it could be dangerous out here. After how blase he'd been about the city's defences, he probably was not the best judge of exactly how much, but he was undoubtedly warier now. Yet there was also a wild beauty. This could be an adventure, so long as he kept his head and didn't do anything else dumb.
And Hilda, out of anyone, would absolutely love that. She may be annoyed at him now. But, if he could pitch this right, he could get her back onside, she would stop picking at every word he said, and it might make things a little easier when he found the proper time and the courage to give her the thanks she deserved.
"Trolls!" Hilda exclaimed.
"What? Yes, you're essay about Trolls. But forget that. I think you'll have something new you can write about, complete with illustrations, of course, because…" Erik turned around, and then he froze.
Three massive Trolls stood behind them. Erik barely reached their waists. They glared at him, eyes narrowed, and one's fists tightened at its sides. And, worst of all, Erik was sure he recognised at least one of them from the front lines that night outside Trolberg.
Hilda stepped forward. "Hello, there. Can you help us? We're lost."
No. This was what he'd stayed out of the Wilderness, despite Trolls now being Trolberg's allies, to avoid. He'd thought the Sparrow Scout camping trip, so close to the wall, would be safe. He hadn't counted on being shoved off a cliff onto a Woff and being carried gods knew where. "Hilda," he said, barely managing to find his voice. "Do you know any of these Trolls?" Maybe he was wrong. A lot of them looked the same anyway.
"No," Hilda folded her arms and glared at him. "But Trolls are our friends now. We have an alliance, or did you forget?"
"Of course not! I literally just told that boy…"
One of the Trolls growled deep in his throat.
Hilda glanced at Erik. "Yes? Wait, that's not very nice?"
The Troll turned to his nearest companion and grumbled something. His friend grinned and pounded a fist into an open palm.
"No!" Hilda stepped forward, right in front of Erik, and bunched her fists. "I won't let you!"
"Hilda!" Erik yanked her back by the shoulder.
Hilda flinched at his touch but started to back up with him. "They… they said…" She did not sound as confident as she had a moment before.
"I get it. The body language was obvious. It'd be bad enough to meet them in a dark alley if they were human, but… Trolls…" Erik gulped. They could tear him limb from limb as soon as look at him. "And they want a piece of the guy that killed that big chap. Now, run!"
They both turned tail and bolted.
The Trolls roared. The ground thundered and shook with their footfalls.
"That forest!" Hilda pointed to a stretch of trees that covered the rise ahead. They were thickly packed and looked deep. "If we can reach that…"
"Trolls don't like forests?"
"I don't know. But they're kind of big. So I don't think they'll fit."
Erik forced his legs to keep moving. His breath started to wheeze, and the tightness in his chest from the thought of the Trolls catching up wasn't helping. But there was no way he was slowing.
Hilda cleared the treeline. Erik shot in after her a second later. There was a beat of about three seconds, then an almighty crash and splinter as one of the Trolls ploughed into a tree.
The trees were tightly packed, and though the moonlight was strong, the canopy blocked out much of it. It slowed them down. But still, the growling, grunting, and crashing got further and further behind.
"I think… slow down…" Erik managed to gasp out.
In front of him, Hilda yelped and then dropped out of sight.
"Hilda… wha…" Erik yelled as the ground dropped from beneath him. He rolled down a slope, mercifully clear of anything solid, then slammed flat onto his back into a pile of leaves. He stared up at the moonlight peeking through the canopy and the settling leaves and tried to get his breathing back under control. As his chest began to loosen, despite the thought of the Trolls behind them, lying there and not running anymore just seemed like the best thing in the world.
A mound of leaves groaned, rose beside him, and a torchlight flicked on. Hilda swung the beam right in his face.
Erik flung up a hand. "Oh, come on!"
The beam lowered. "Are you okay?"
Erik sat up with a noncommittal grunt. "Do you think… they're still following?"
"I don't know. Maybe we should go a bit further in. But if they are, we'll definitely hear them coming, right?"
"Right."
Hilda frowned, the shadows from her torch deepening the expression. "Mr Ahlberg, they really wanted to hurt you. Not just us, or humans but… you."
"Are you surprised?" Erik said with a short laugh. "I killed one of them. But what exactly did they say? You can still understand them, right?"
Hilda rubbed her arm. "You don't really want to know. Come on. We should get you as far away from them as we can."
Erik fished out his own torchlight and trailed behind her. His imagination played up, thinking about what those Trolls had wanted to do, and he almost asked Hilda again. But if it was as bad as some of his thoughts, making a little girl repeat it certainly seemed wrong. She'd already had to hear it once.
Erik watched Hilda's back as she picked her way over logs and underbrush. They weren't just lost. Now, if those Trolls were serious, they were being hunted. He'd ignored Hilda and Gerda, and killed that Troll, so he had no one but himself to blame. But Hilda had done nothing. And now, just because she'd gone and got herself lost with him, she could be in danger.
***
It was almost half an hour later, and Hilda had had enough. Picking their way through the dark underbrush was slow going, and the harsh torchlight had started to hurt her eyes. Ahlberg had been quiet enough, which seemed odd, and at first, Hilda had thought it was because he'd been so badly out of breath.
She wished he'd start talking again, about anything. He was good at that, talking about absolutely nothing at all. The silence left her alone with her own thoughts. About what the Trolls had said, which made her stomach churn. Ahlberg didn't deserve that for killing Trundle. Which made her think about Trundle. Trundle, who had very deliberately put himself in that position because he believed his sacrifice would convince his mother to take action. And he'd only been able to do so because Hilda had let him out. She'd tell Ahlberg that he shouldn't feel so bad about that part of it, only he hadn't said anything much to her about that night, so she wasn't going to start that conversation if he couldn't.
And so, she had just kept walking, searching for someplace far enough away to be safe. Which was stupid because Ahlberg was supposed to be the adult. She shouldn't have to take care of him so he didn't get squashed.
"Hilda," Erik finally said. "I think we can stop."
"Those Trolls…"
"They're far enough behind us now. So come on, we'll get a good night's rest. And then, tomorrow, we'll chart our way home. It'll be an adventure!"
Hilda had wanted him to talk, but the almost chipper mood grated. "We're lost! And I'm stuck with you! This is not what I wanted to do this evening."
Erik scowled. "So, maybe it would be a good idea to stop. Clearly, you're tired."
"I'm not tired." Hilda lowered her torch and then sat straight down on the nearest log.
"Look, that's a good spot. And there's plenty of firewood. We'll hear them coming if they're still following."
"I suppose." Hilda was sure she would not be so tired if she'd been hanging out with Baba. Maybe it was the headlong flight or worrying about those Trolls. Stupid Ahlberg! If he wasn't here, if he hadn't been so stupid, perhaps they would have been nicer.
But not all Trolls were nice. Those ones certainly hadn't been. Hilda repressed a shudder.
Erik crouched down and pulled the abundant leaves and twigs together into a haphazard pile. "There, you see. We've got kindling. And sticks… all nice and dry. We'll soon have a roaring fire, and…"
Hilda rose. "You're doing it wrong. You'll set the whole forest on fire like that." And she kicked the pile of leaves next to him away.
Erik glared at her. "That was the kindling."
Hilda folded her arms.
Erik held her gaze for a second more, then straightened. "You're right. This is supposed to be an adventure. So that means we have to do the fire right. Come on… did you hear me? I said, 'you're right'."
"I heard you." Hilda kicked some of the dry brush well clear.
Erik hefted a couple of rocks together to form a stone circle. Like they showed them to set up a fire pit at Sparrow Scouts.
"Rocks don't burn."
"That's the fire pit," Erik said with a grin. "Come on, you've got some sticks there, yes?"
Hilda threw them into the stone circle. Now that he'd declared they were doing it 'right', Ahlberg was actually doing it properly, and there was really nothing to complain about. So Hilda didn't. And with them both working together, the fire pit and a nice, safe clearing were quickly set up.
Hilda dug in her satchel and pulled out a packet of matches. She cracked it open, knelt down, and struck a match. There was a breeze moving through the forest, crisp and cold, and it snuffed the match out in an instant. Hilda growled to herself and struck another, which also went out.
"Here…" Erik knelt down beside her, his broad back to the breeze. When she struck the next match, he cupped his big hands around it. The flame quickly caught the dry leaves and sticks with a crackle and pop.
Erik picked up a large log and dropped it on top, throwing up sparks.
"Careful!"
"There! See what we can do when we work together?"
Hilda sat back on the log and pulled her sketchbook out of her satchel. She flipped it open and very deliberately did not look at Ahlberg.
"Er… well…" The log shifted beneath her as Erik put his boot upon it. "We'll head out tomorrow. It'll be easier to find our way in the daylight. We'll chart our way through this forest." He swept an arm out at the darkness. "We'll find a way home, and you'll have a story to tell your friends."
Hilda started scribbling. She wasn't even sure what.
"Yes, good idea,  you can illustrate it. And I'll even let you lead. That way, you won't, you know…" and some of the confidence slipped from his voice. "Have to worry about me doing something stupid. We don't have to fight anything. You do have the experience out here. So, you can let me know which creatures are harmless…"
Hilda slapped her pencil down. "You mean like the Woff?"
"Yeah." Erik smiled at her, but it was tight. "Only this time I'll listen to you."
Hilda snorted.
"It'll… be fun…" Erik's shoulders slumped. "I am trying here."
"No, you're not. You're just putting on an act. Like you were back at camp, so everyone would pay attention to you! And it won't be fun. I thought the Woff was going to be fun. And it was fun… and then… and then you spoilt it!"
Erik frowned. "Wait, you were having fun? With me?"
"Yes!" Hilda rose to her feet, dropping her sketchbook beside her. "The Woff was fun! And when I first met you, when you took me on that Safety Patrol thing, I thought that would be fun too. Because you were just… I don't know… I thought you were an adventurer, just like me. But you're not. You just want everyone to think you are. And you didn't care if you hurt the Trolls or the people you were supposed to protect. You nearly let Trolberg get destroyed because you wouldn't listen to me. What's wrong with you?"
She was right in his face now, and Erik shifted away, swallowing hard. "I don't know."
Hilda waited, hands balled at her sides, chest heaving. But he continued to look into the firelight, anywhere but at her. "Well," she said thickly. "Whatever it was, I hope you're happy I thought of that stupid eyeball. Because if you hadn't changed your mind… Safety Patrol would have done whatever you told them… no one else could've stopped it. You were the only one."
"Hilda, I understand what nearly happened. I… saw. I had nightmares for nearly a month afterwards."
"Good! You don't think I had nightmares too?"
"You saw what was in that eyeball too, didn't you? You knew I'd see my mother. And... you saw Trolberg destroyed. But why would you have nightmares? I know it was a little scary, but you did the right thing from the start. You were trying to stop me."
"I let Trundle out!" Hilda burst out. "And he attacked Trolberg. And all the Trolls followed him because you'd been picking on them and putting bells on them, and, and if I didn't get through to you, I would've been responsible for…" Hilda sunk back onto the log and put her face in her hands.
The log creaked as Erik sat down beside her. "Trundle... the big chap?"
"Yes," Hilda sniffed and wiped her sleeve across her eyes. "But it's still your fault too. And you wouldn't have stopped without my help. And you won't even say you're sorry or thank me for helping you, or even talk about it."
Erik rested a hand on her shoulder lightly. "What happened wasn't your fault. You're a child. I had a responsibility to Trolberg. Protecting them was literally my job."
Hilda shifted away from his touch. "Well, it shouldn't have been. Because you can't even apologise."
"I was going to…"
"You've had plenty of chances!"
"It's not that easy!"
"It is! You apologised about the Woff! It's the same…"
"No, it's not!" Erik shot to his feet and began to pace. "I get what you did for me. That Troll would've sat up. And… I would've got what I wanted. I would've gone down in history for sure. As the man who made the worst mistake in the history of Trolberg."
"You would have destroyed everyone's homes!"
"I know!" Erik flung out his arms. "And people would have died. And… and here I am complaining about my reputation. But, you're right. I would've been responsible for destroying Trolberg and anyone who got hurt or died as a result, and… all because I just wanted… I just wanted to be seen as something that I'm not. Even Gerda had had enough of me, and all she could do was step back and let me mess up everything, but… you didn't."
The fire crackled.
"So, why can't you say it?" Hilda said quietly.
Erik gestured around the fire. "I can't, now. There's no one here!"
"Why would you need an audience? An apology isn't a performance. It should be easier for you with no one here. I just want you to say it to me!"
"No!" Erik balled his hands into fists at his sides. "I won't cut corners on this! You deserve that I do this properly. Not some half-ass… damn… sorry, shoddy apology to get it over and done with. That wouldn't be right! Look, I get that's why you didn't accept what I said to you back at camp. I tried to get off doing it like that when you were all by yourself, so I wouldn't get embarrassed." Erik snatched the medal out of his pocket, grasping it so tightly he was white-knuckled. "And I know you don't care about stuff like this. And I know you wouldn't expect me to do it in front of the whole city… thank gods… because I couldn't even turn this bloody thing down. But I could have at least done it in front of your Sparrow Scouts. I'd tell them that I couldn't have saved Trolberg without your help. That I… that I mucked up, and you're the real hero. That's what I intended to do. That's what I told Gerda I would do. But all I could talk about was Edmond Ahlberg and… I'm sorry…"
"You just said sorry again…" Hilda stood up, unsure how to get him to calm down. "You just need to do that, but I guess a little bit bigger?"
"You're not listening! It's different! You stopped me from making the biggest mistake of my life. And I wouldn't have come back from that. So, if you need me to admit to your friends what a fool I was, I'll do it. I just… just give me some time to work up the courage. I can do this!"
"But I don't!" Hilda grabbed his hands. It seemed the only way to get him to still and pull him out of the state he'd worked himself into. "I mean, I thought I did. Back at camp, Trevor was making you look bad, and I... I guess I just helped him, and I'm sorry.
“But I don't need you to look silly or stupid or do anything that would make you feel really embarrassed. How would that make me feel good? I mean, I thought it might before, but I… I think that was kind of silly. I just want you to admit it to me."
Erik's hands tightened in hers as he stared at her, chest heaving. Then he pulled away and sunk back onto the log. "But what's the point if no one else knows what you did?"
Hilda sat down beside him. "I know what I did already. I think I just need to know that you know? And you kind of have to say it for it to count. Besides, why does it matter what other people think of me or you? What they think doesn't change what actually happened."
"What people think sometimes feels better than nothing at all." Erik stared into the fire and turned the medal over in his hands. "I thought I wanted this thing. Ninety per cent of Trolberg thinks I'm a hero. Just because I, somehow, magically realised what the Trolls wanted. But it doesn't change the fact I riled those Trolls up so badly because I wanted them to attack. Even if we could have handled them, that was just… stupid. And having this hunk of metal doesn't change that. I still know. So does Gerda. So do you."
"You didn't drop the medal," Hilda realised. "You were throwing it away. You could have just thrown it in the trash?"
Erik's shoulders slumped. "You don't think I tried? The garbage service found it and returned it. So I threw it in the harbour… some fisherman brought it back to my doorstep. Apparently, it's very recognisable. But I figured, outside Trolberg, it might stay lost."
"Must've stuck in that Woff's fur."
"But now, I've got a better idea." Erik slid off the log and knelt in front of Hilda.
"Wait, I thought we established I don't need a medal?"
"Hey, at least let me feel like I'm doing some part of this properly, okay?"
Hilda felt a faint smile. "By giving me the medal you don't want?"
"Not relevant." Erik slipped the loop of ribbon over her head. "Hilda, thanks for, um, I'm sorry I didn't listen to you. I'm sorry you had to hit me with a giant eyeball just to get through to me. And, thanks for not giving up on me until you got it through my thick head." He gulped and dropped his gaze, his voice quiet. "And, um, I'm sorry that I didn't do my job and protect you… all of you… I'm sorry."
It was stilted, unconfident, and completely unlike any speech Hilda had heard him give. She swallowed the lump in her throat, then reached out and put her arms around his neck. "Thanks, Mr Ahlberg. And I forgive you."
A shudder went through him, and he squeezed her back. Then he sniffed and pushed her away. "I… these leaves… they're too close." Ahlberg turned his back and kicked piles of leaves, already well to the edge of their little clearing, farther back. "Set the… ahem... whole place on fire…"
Hilda fingered the medal, then slipped it under her coat. She wasn't sure what she was going to do with it. Maybe it would make a nice paperweight. She lifted her sketchbook again, but the blank page seemed daunting. She yawned loudly.
Erik kicked one last pile of leaves and then turned back to her. "I think you need to go to bed."
"What about listening for the Trolls?" Despite the question, Hilda slipped off the log and started arranging her satchel into a pillow.
Erik smiled at her, and in the firelight, it just made him look tired. "I don't think I'm going to sleep knowing they're out there wanting to… squash me. I'll stay up and listen for them."
"Okay." Hilda hunkered down. Not moving around, even with her coat and the fire, that breeze was building, and it cut right through. She wrapped her arms around herself and repressed a shudder.
Something brushed her shoulder. Hilda cracked open her eyes and grasped the material of Ahlberg's jacket as he passed it to her. But then wouldn't he get cold? She should say as much. But the jacket was warm, and it did smell nice.
"Goodnight, Mr Ahlberg," she said instead as she pulled the soft leather around her.
"Erik," he said after a moment's pause. "After everything you did for me, you can call me Erik."
Hilda mumbled her assent and then promptly fell asleep.

Kastle AU- Fathers Be Good To Your Daughters
He hears giggles and the sound of small feet pattering before he notices Max flying down the hallway with a pink tutu and plastic beads around his neck. The poor gentle giant skids to a stop behind Frank who gives the pit-bull a small chuckle, his brow raising at the sight of pink polish on his nails.
“Girls got a hold of ya, didn’t they boy?” He gives the dog a pat on the head before un-beautifying him. “Christ, you look like Nelson after he crashes on our couch.” Frank shakes his head as he opens up the back door to allow Max to have some alone time. “Us men gotta stick together.”
His loyal companion gives a hearty woff in agreeance before bounding out to the fenced in yard to safety. When Frank closes the door, he turns around to see three little blonde heads peeking out from the corner, their giggles muffled by their hands no doubt. Karen is on the sofa, working on an article and gives him a smirk as he creeps up on them and the screams when he inevitably sneaks up on them makes her laugh and she pulls herself from her work. Of course Frank has Clara, the 2 year old in his arms, her short blonde curls bouncing as he throws her up in the air and she finds the twins at his legs, clutching onto his boots.
She has to give it to Frank, he knows every Disney Princess song by heart, and made it clear that Moana, Merida and Rapunzel are his favorite because ‘See girls, she doesn’t need a man to validate herself’ and ‘Rapunzel is cool cause she reminds me of your Mama’ He’s become an expert hair stylist, mastering the Elsa braid like a pro and only a real man will paint his daughters nails. He also deals with a lot of pinks and purples, a lot of jewels and skirts and smiles through all of it and making new memories.
“What did I tell you three about playing dress up with the dog?” His voice tries to be stern, put breaks when Clara places a bow at the top of his head and then smiles. “Pretty daddy!” and just like that, he leans down at the laughing six year olds and scoops them up in his arms, there is another loud squeal. “Stop torturing the dog, that is what your Uncle Foggy is for.”
Karen scoffs and gives him a look and Frank gives her a sheepish smile. “Girls, go clean up, we’re going to have dinner in a few minutes.” The twins give a perfect answer in unison and Clara toddles to keep up with her sisters.
Frank turns his attention to Karen, who is standing against the wall with glasses on, hair in a messy bun, yoga pants and a loose tee. He is over to her in three steps and wraps his arms around her waist, kissing her neck sweetly. “Have I’ve ever told you how beautiful you are?” He can feel her smile against her shoulder. “And have I ever told you how much I love you?”
She kisses his bare shoulder, smiling at the knowledge that not long ago, this man thought there was no after for him. Now that there was one, he wasn’t ever letting it escape from him. “I love you to.” She says as she once again hears six pairs of little feet slapping against the floor. Instantly the girls are between them, Clara in Karen’s arms and Annie and Lucy in Franks. “And you wanted a forth one?” She laughs as Clara takes her glasses off her face.
Frank shrugs. “There is always room in my heart for more, besides, it could be a boy.”
“Knowing our luck, we’ll get twin girls again.”
Frank lets out a loud laugh as they walk over to the table, thankful beyond measure to have this wonderful woman in his life and his beautiful little girls that made him whole again.

The next bit I’ve seen so far is poor Vivi getting stolen from (or so I assume) and then taken advantage of and getting called this other kid’s ‘slave’.
Harsher, when you know Vivi’s actual backstory (which I learned mostly through watching WoFF than anything else.)
I’m also finding it interesting how varied the people are? There aren’t just humans, there’s plenty of non-human characters too! I guess that’s why Zidane doesn't stick out quite as much as he should, with that tail. Or, there’s something I don’t know yet.

 °˖✧|  TIDBIT MASTERPOST ON SILICA’S POKéMON  |✧˖°
                                      °˖✧|  Primary Pokémon  |✧˖°
                                                      °˖✧|  GOGO  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Garchomp Gender: Male Ability: Sand Veil Contest Specialization: Coolness
Silica met Gogo as a Gible and he was the first Pokémon she ever caught, even if through no ability of her own. Having failed to capture him initially (as well as attempting to physically wrestle him into submission), the gible decided it would be great fun to follow her for the next three days to mock her. But having strayed too far from his mountain and colony, it was a target by other Pokémon whose territory he inadvertently invaded. After Silica got hurt protecting him, he decided to stay on with her.
As he was the first and only Pokémon she had outside of the old Wobbuffet, though almost all of her team of know enough of fighting, Gogo is one of Silica’s few Pokémon specifically trained for battle outside of contests.
Gogo is very sweet on Gigi. Out of all he can be gruff or hard on, he’s very gentle with her in comparison. It tickles Silica to no end, and having her notice makes Gogo that much more grumpy
                                                     °˖✧|  FAYFAY  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Clefable Gender: Female Ability: Cute Charm Contest Specialization: Cuteness
Fayfay was actually one of Crystal’s early captures, caught as a Clefairy and, knowing her mother’s interest in all things cute, gave it to her on her birthday. Needless to say, Silica was beyond ecstatic and for that reason Silica is sure to take extra care of Fayfay. Additionally, for the longest time she was the one that Silica let follow her around outside of a pokeball the most in Johto, much like Zuzu is in more recent years.
Fayfay is surprisingly very fussy and vain for what’s normally seen as a famously lighthearted and timid species. After being exposed to the glitz and glamor of the Contest scenes, her standards became set exceedingly high and only seemed to become more diva-like the more victories she gains. Silica constantly has to keep an eye to make sure her ego is kept in check, having to remind her that brattiness isn’t considered that cute.
Given her star-shaped silhouette, Fayfay is often used to show Crystal her support when it comes to her moments of cheering her daughter on. Which is a good 60% of the time they’re together. Silica taught Fayfay ‘Cosmic Power’ primarily for this purpose alone.
                                                        °˖✧|  MIMI  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Milotic (Shiny) Gender: Female Ability: Competitive  Contest Specialization: Beauty
Mimi was found by Silica as a stranded Feebas, where she was being bullied and harassed by a group of children. Silica chased them all off, however didn’t have as she didn’t find the Feebas particularly appealing either.
Mimi is the ‘straight-man’ of the group. She’s a no-nonsense girl that helps keep the others from acting out too much, and becoming temperamental at those who stray too far out of line. She also seeks to emphasize her hard-earned elegance on both land and sea, holding herself with the confidence of a queen, as she takes her role in performances and Beauty contests very seriously, and those who interfere with that also are quick to feel her ire.
She’s the fastest pokémon that Silica owns. Her training for routines has doubled as general training for speed and elegances alike, and she’s that much faster in the water.
                                                   °˖✧|  BONBON  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Steenee (shiny) Gender: Female Ability: Sweet Veil Contest Specialization: Cleverness
Bonbon was caught as a Bounsweet during Silica’s first trip to Alola by her former lover Otu in his earlier attempts to woo her. Having originally been unable to catch one herself due to her poor capturing ability, Otu spent several days tracking a shiny one down just for her. Because of this, despite having left him, Bonbon tends to be doted on a little more due to her emotional connection and the torch Silica still holds for her former lover.
Due to their similar appearances and coordinating color schemes, Bonbon is one of Silica’s most iconic Pokémon in the Contest circles and one of the ones most associated with her. This amplified once and was able to dress more to her preference and their appearances nearly matched.
Bonbon’s eventual evolution into Tsareena, despite Silica’s own excitement, was not well received by her audience and fanbase. They preferred Bonbon’s aesthetic and cuter look of her previous evolution, and it took time for the change to adjust by onlookers.
                                                     °˖✧|  ZUZU  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Azumarill Gender: Male Ability: Huge Power Contest Specialization: Toughness
Zuzu was another Pokémon caught for Silica by Crys, except instead of merely being a gift it was a statement that she had overcome her own inner trials that kept her from capturing - by catching the Azumarill she’d failed to catch in front of her mother before. Silica has doted a little extra on Zuzu mainly because he represents her daughter’s overcoming and her taking pride in it.
Zuzu probably takes the most to Silica’s upbeat contest persona, the most energetic and upbeat of the Coordinator’s team, and is the quickest and most eager in the team to match her excited energy. He can also be just as loud as her.
                                                       °˖✧|  GIGI  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Goodra Gender: Female Ability: Hydration Contest Specialization: None/support
Gigi was given to Silica as a Goomy as a gift from her sponsors for her progress once she rose up the ranks. Though she wasn’t thrilled at first with the gooeyness of her, she softened up considerably when told that this particular Goomy was a rescue from a previously neglectful Trainer. This coupled with her natural mothering instincts and how quickly Goomy took to her, Siica got pretty affectionate pretty quickly towards her.
Due to the poor treatment and neglect she suffered from her previous owner, Gigi’s health isn’t the best and needs a lot of attention. For this reason she never is part of official battles and rarely participates in contests herself; she acts as support for main performances or as smaller showcases. However, this also means that Gigi is the one audiences see the most of all of them. Thus primarily Gigi acts as Silica’s mascot, where it is far more low-energy in comparison to the primary team.
Though Silica herself doesn’t like being out in the rain much when she’s contest-ready, Gigi’s Hydration ability proves it good for her health and for that reason she’ll bundle up and stay outside with her in the rain while the dragon type takes all the time she needs.
                                                      °˖✧|  UNNIE  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Kangaskhan Gender: Female Ability: Scrappy Contest Specialization: None
While technically her Pokémon, Unnie was given to Silica as a bodyguard and is used independantly of her primary team to ensure she gets from place to place in safety. She’s the only one trained specifically for fighting and battles which makes her, aside from Gogo, arguably the strongest Pokémon currently in Silica’s possession
As Silica’s bodyguard, Unnie is the only Pokémon that is almost constantly out of her pokéball when she’s traveling. The only exception to this is when Silica isn’t dressed in her Contest persona, as her natural appearance isn’t recognized by the media.
While not technically a nickname, Silica will often call Unnie’s baby Eolin-i (read: ‘Little One’) as a term of endearment. As a fellow mother, Silica’s also the only one Unnie will allow near her baby. These two are the only ones among her team referred to in her native tongue.
                                       °˖✧|  Retired Pokémon  |✧˖°
                                                   °˖✧|  WOFFEE  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Wobbuffet Gender: Male Ability: Telepathy Contest Specialization: None
Silica’s very first Pokémon. Woffee was actually an older Pokémon that belonged to Celestic’s elder that she accidentally stole when she ran away(she intended to steal one anyway, but one of the starters the Elder gave to new trainers, not her personal Pokémon). Silica didn’t realize her error until long after she was half way to Eterna City, but since she had gotten too far and was too stubborn to turn around to return it, she decided to keep him on.
Having gotten too old to travel too often, Woffe acts primarily as the Lynne family’s housekeeper and the caretaker for Crystal when she’s young while Silica was off working, including both cleaning and cooking in her absence. Because of his age, Silica only takes him out of the house for light exercise when Crystal isn’t home, or if she’s entering a situation where she knows she’ll be in use of his abilities.
Having a particularly strong Hidden Ability, as he trained by the Elder initially, Silica used Woffee’s telepathy ability to monitor Crystal’s well being and progress on Mount Mortar.
Another of Woffee’s abilities from being raised by the Elder is his unique use of the Destiny Bond. Rather than merely between the user and another, he can extend the ties of the ability between two separate beings other than himself and can maintain it for an inordinate amount of time. Though she won’t admit it, this is something Silica has used to protect those she cares for in past situations.
                                                    °˖✧|  CHUMEE  |✧˖°
Tumblr media
POKéMON: Smoochum Gender: Female Ability: Forewarn Contest Specialization: None
Chumee was the one who found Silica, rather than the other way around, when she first arrived in Johto. Having been very pregnant with Crystal at the time, the Smoochum had taken to following her and keeping her company while she wandered through foreign territory. It was Chumee who lead her to New Bark Town, and decided to stay with her thereafter.
Having been there for her birth and spent the most time with her, Chumee was one of Crys’s primary pokémon caretakers when she was small, alongside Woffee. If Silica was at work or was resting, Chumee would be the one to escort her too and from school or the playground, and would help alongside her when shopping.
Chumee’s abilities as a psychic type are the primary reason Silica sent her alongside Crys for her training. Aside from her attacks that would allow Crys to escape any danger from other pokémon, Chumee can directly connect to Woffee via telepathy, even if not entirely steadily so, and give periodic updates back and forth. Thus allowing Silica to indirectly monitor her child’s progress.
