Small Drabble About my HL2VRAI HC

first time posting fanfic hope this goes well ... also yes i am well aware that hl2vrai isn't even out yet i'm just matpat theorizing brah

SUMMARY: Uncle Benrey helps Joshua change their file name to something they like better

“Uncle Ben?” Joshua called, walking into the dark room. The only source of light was the large stack of monitors against one wall, all displaying different things. One showed cameras placed up around rebellion safe points, another being vital Combine technology information, a third being a YouTube ASMR video. The other monitors were things more similar to that third monitor than anything else. Benrey, which had been shortened to Ben by most in the past decade or so, was sitting in a musty office chair hauled straight from Black Mesa. It was apparently his favorite back and the day and he, “Couldn’t just leave it there.”

The chair turned around, revealing the man who Joshua had come looking for. Their hair, once dyed black, had returned to its natural dark brown color. Their eyes glowed an unnatural cyan hue, similar to their brother’s yellow colored eyes. A swirling pattern made it hard to look anywhere but into them. Ben had a natural smile resting on their face, their posture extremely slumped. Like usual, they donned their civilian uniform.

“Hey, Joshie!” She sat up a bit straighter. “What’s up? Ya’ need something from ol’ uncle Benny?” She rested her chin on her hand. Joshua anxiously played with the hem of their hoodie. Ben raised an eyebrow at the display in front of her. “Hey, no need to look so anxious. You know I’ll never be mad or judge you, buddy.”

“Grandpa C said you called me ugly the first time you saw my baby photo.” Joshua chuckled, rolling their eyes. Ben put his hands up, shrugging.

“Guilty as charged, but hey, I haven’t judged you since. At least not without good reason to.” They chuckled. “Now what’s up, you look like you’re about to upchuck on my nice floor.” Ben gestured towards the dusty, dirty floor. Joshua uh’d, shoving their hands in their pockets.

“I was wondering if you could change my file name..?” Joshua asked quietly. Ben’s eyes widened for a second, but not for long. She nodded, turning back to her extensive monitor collection.

“Of course, buddy. Come here.” Joshua walked over, standing over Ben’s shoulder. “Okay, what do you want to change it to?” He asked, opening up Joshua’s folder on his computer. Why everyone trusted him with their files, no one knew.

“Alyx, with a y.” Alyx replied, hands clenched tightly in their pockets. Ben rolled their eyes.

“With a y.” She repeated, chuckling. “Kids these days.” She deleted the ‘Joshua Freeman’ from Alyx’s file name and began typing a new one.

“How’s that look, buddy?” He asked, looking back at Alyx. Alyx nodded, smiling widely. Tears welled in their eyes. Ben turned towards them, wrapping his arms around them in a tight hug. “Aww, don’t cry bro.”

“Thank you, Uncle B.” Alyx hugged them back, happy with their name for the first time in a while.

“‘Course. If you ever wanna change it again, you know who to come to.” She pulled away from the hug, giving Alyx a thumbs up.

What is fnaf about I thought it was just a horror survival game but there's lore???

i am assuming this is an earnest question but i want you to know that for a moment i genuinely thought you were pranking me LMAO

fnaf was kind of The Originator of what people like to now derisively refer to as "mascot horror", which is usually typified by having some sort of child-friendly character(s) that secretly house Dark Lore. yknow, your Amandas the Adventure, your Poppys Playtime, etc.

but fnaf is kind of Known for Having Lore. thats matpats bread and butter! (it also has a reputation for being really convoluted lore, but I dont really agree with that. I think its only convoluted because matpat and co refuse to believe that anything in the games might be a joke or a metaphor or just. entirely retconned. this is why game theory is my enemy. The other part of the problem is that the game's creator, Scott Cawthon, very much was not planning the lore out before the game started, and was really just laying the tracks directly in front of the lore-train, so I PERSONALLY think it's foolish to search for a lot of foreshadowing when he didn't have a lot of ideas about the fore he might be trying to shadow, yknow?)

the very very short summary of the Lore is that two guys made a Chuck E Cheese style childrens animatronic restaurant, which was popular once upon a time, but one of the founders (William Afton, aka Purple Guy, aka Springtrap, aka everyones nasty boyfriend who sucks) murdered a bunch of children, whose souls now possess the animatronics. All the games are dealing with the legacy of this, in some capacity or another.

The lore mostly is found in easter eggs and minigames you get when you die. And also the books, which I've never read, and you cant make me read. It gets squirrellier as it goes on, getting into mind control, trying to achieve immortality using child souls, robot daughters.... tbh I mostly just ignore a lot of the stuff that I think is dumb, because what I am personally very invested in is Mike Afton, the player character of 2 of the games and the son of William "the man behind the slaughter" Afton. He's never done anything wrong except for that stuff he did.

The Fnaf movie is coming out October 27th, and none of us have any idea how much (if any!) of this lore will even be in the movie. The main character is named Mike, but he might not even be Michael Afton! It could be a different, unrelated Mike, because Scott Cawthon keeps giving characters the same names even though they have no connection with each other, and I hope he never stops because it makes me laugh every single time.

Anyway, I'm not going to go in-depth with the lore here, because I'm probably not a very good source for it anyway. (There's a lot of stuff that people consider really important canon that I entirely discard, on account of it being, as I said earlier, dumb. And again, no one can make me read the books.) but if for some reason you have a burning desire to know more, I would really recommend Sagan Hawkes' Five Nights At Freddy's: A Retrospective series

Okay, 1? I love you, and I wish you luck surviving in this content desert.

I’ve scrolled through some of my old posts to jog my memory, so I’ll give you the best rundown that I can for not having used this blog in a while and having a computer with none of the old CG files. Most of my headcanons or speculations for this au line up with the general consensus for backstory and characters, but little things differ here and there.

Also, please note that some of this au’s content... didn’t age well... From my scan of the Crystal Grumps blog, a few people have technically been removed from this au (which I support) but I will do my best to report things as they were.

Arin: I think he’s a pink rhodochrosite? He was a gem technician on Homeworld and was tasked (I believe by Orange Diamond or Blue Diamond) to do experiments on fusing shattered gems. Arin quietly objected to the work at first but he did his job and made many half-formed abominations. However, he did have one truly successful experiment on Homeworld: the fusion of two gems named Sunshine and Zyanne. Two halves of two gems combined to make someone entirely new: Suzy. Arin defected with Barry and they landed on earth together (I’m pretty sure)

Barry: Orange Diamond. In this au there is no large revolution, but Barry leaves behind his life on Homeworld for reasons that I can’t entirely remember. I think he just wasn’t happy? Also, there was some messed up stuff going on behind closed doors (ninjas, Arin’s work, etc.). He befriended Arin over some time on Homeworld and they escaped together. I don’t think anyone ever made any content about Barry faking his own death like Rose Quartz from the main show, but he may have done it?

Brian & Dan: Brian is a bloodstone and Dan is a Cummingonite because we had to. They are elite warriors, specially produced gems made for their ability to move undetected and to strike before their enemy knew they had company. Dan and Brian are ninjas. They always come in pairs (I think that is well accepted but I can’t remember), so Dan and Brian have been together since the very beginning. However, ninjas have a more nefarious purpose beyond the murder on the tin- ninjas are supposed to kill so thoroughly that there is never a chance of their target reforming. Ninjas shatter and eat other gems. It’s thrown around here and there that ninjas need to eat gems but its honestly just used for angst. These boys can get real sad.

Holly: was a commander in the past? Uh, I’m pretty sure she was shipped with Ross because this was all like 3 years ago so things are very different now.

Kevin: Ok so Kevin was supposed to be some sort of Prophecy Gem? He was a special boy or something. For some people, he was shattered and the two halves of his gem were combined with other stuff to make Matt and Ryan of Supermega, but I never got on that train.

Jacksepticeye: Green Diamond. I can’t remember much about him but he was there.

Jontron: Was Blue Diamond. Slightly malicious but just missed Barry. No longer included in some of the main au sources and has no replacement.

MatPat: Peridot equivalent. I can’t remember how much actual characterization he had.

Mark: He was an amethyst soldier, Jasper equivalent. In some of my writing, he previously commanded Matt and Ryan.

Matt and Ryan: In my writing, they are a pilot and a soldier respectively. Other people had them as halves of the Propechy, created by Arin (I think) after Kevin’s death. People are weird around them, especially Barry as he and Kevin were so close.

Pewdiepie: Yes, I know. He was White Diamond and is no longer included in main circles of the au. I never touched him in the first place. No thank u.

Ross: Remember the ninja partner thing? here’s where it gets sad. Ross was a ninja, left in a kindergarten by mistake for a while with another gem who became his sister. They were ninjas without knowing it, and they were there as partners. However, Ross’s sister’s gem was defective and cracked, and eventually she shattered. He keeps her shards with him when he leaves the kindergarten to live with the Grumps. Dan and Brian figure out that he is a ninja and both try to protect him from the horrors of what he was supposed to be and at the same time try to keep him in check for his safety and everyone else’s. I also did some toying around that he had persuasive powers and that he could (unknowingly) influence gems with his emotions.

Suzy: Like I said before, a fusion of two broken gems from Homeworld. She doesn’t really remember either of her past selves and is pretty stable.

Also NateWantsToBattle is there? I don’t remember much about him.

I have to cut this off because I need to leave for class here in a minute, though I’ve basically covered everyone? Other people try to include other YouTubers of note, but I never did. This au needs a lot of polishing (get the joke?) to fit to 2020 game grumps and everything that has happened in SU/SU: Future (even though we don’t follow that source material too strictly) but I hope you enjoy whatever content is out there now!

I can’t cover the fusions today bc there’s a ton and I don’t remember most of them but they’re there too.

Theory- There is no Darkiplier

Bare with me.

If you’ve ever watched one of Markipler’s videos, you know that he takes no shit from nobody. Mark can be very sarcastic, very blunt, and can express his honesty in almost abstractly satirical ways. This shows particularly when he is talking about his characters (think about Darkiplier Vs. Antisepticeye, a satirical commentary on a fandom’s influence on characters and ‘giving the people what they want’- more on that later). Mark is very protective of his more in-depth and popularized characters (Darkiplier and Wilford Warfstache, for example), and that is completely understandable. Now, recently, people have been suspecting that Darkiplier will return. This all started when Game Theory released a video discussing the lore about Who Killed Markiplier and the general universe of which it takes place. Matpat brought up the idea that Markiplier could become ‘actor Mark (from the Who Killed Markiplier universe)’ in his videos, citing this vlog as suspicious because ‘Markiplier would NEVER talk like that!’ during that segment, Matpat essentially said that the Mark in that video could never be the actual Mark because he was acting ‘off’. There are a few issues with this theory. For one, it is making assumptions as to what ‘is’ and ‘isn’t’ Mark. Keep in mind, none of us will ever truly know Markiplier as well as Markiplier. Not Amy, not us, not Matpat, not anyone. But, since the beginning, Mark’s ‘v-logs’ were used to bridge the gap between viewer and creator. In the vlog Mat used as an example, Mark was talking about how he wanted to be more honest with us- it was literally in the title. But Game theory chalked his behavior up as ‘douchey’ and therefore fake... in the video where he was trying to be his real self. Whether what Mark said in that vlog was douchey or not, it put a bad taste in my mouth for Mat to assume that it couldn’t possibly still be the ‘real Mark’. And, if you remember from Mark’s twitch stream from when he was signing laminates, he doesn’t like people to assume things of him (I don’t have a source right now, but basically he ranted about people saying he ‘looked sick/tired’, saying it was disrespectful). I’m not saying that he was offended by this, but there is certainly reason for him to be offended, and his response to the video didn’t look too happy. (Well, I shouldn’t say that from this source, but in the community tab of his Youtube channel he just said ‘.’. Again, not substantial evidence that he was offended, but I thought it was important to include). Mark is a person, he’s allowed to act differently without us jumping to conclusions. And that leads into my other problem with Mat’s theory: It takes the control away from Mark. Under this theory, because we don’t know every aspect of Mark’s personality, we could assume that anything Mark does is fake. He can’t even deny this theory without people saying that it was only character Mark covering his tracks. That’s just not fair, especially considering that this is his story and these are his characters. So, what can he do other than give the people what they want? In Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye, Mark and Sean show us why their most iconic characters can never interact. Ever since both Darkiplier and Antisepticeye were introduced, people speculated that they would eventually fight or otherwise go face to face. The Antisepticeye PAX video was only fuel to the fire, despite Sean debunking claims that Anti would butt heads with Dark. As the speculation turned into demands, with both Dark and Anti becoming more and more prevalent on Youtube, Antisepticeye Vs Darkiplier was released. This video did what Mark is doing now: Giving people what they want, while showing that it could never happen. Matpat’s theory unintentionally put Mark in a spot where he knew people were watching him, and, no matter what he did, they would think that he was lying/plotting. So, he decided to give the people what they want. 3 Scary Games #9, posted 3 days after Mat’s theory, was when the hints at a Darkiplier reveal became suddenly more frequent and more dramatic. Because I don’t want to assume anything outright from this video, which is what caused this problem in the first place, I invite you to watch this video for yourself. All I’ll say is that I personally thought that the glitches were less subtle/meaningful than his past references to Dark have been. Also, they were completely different from things like Go Back To Sleep, which have been shown to be hints about Darkiplier. It feels like the easter eggs in this video are going a completely different direction from where Go Back To Sleep left off. The next video I want to talk about is the one he posted today. This is where I am going to apply my theory, to see if it can help to explain the video. What stuck out to me (and I’m sure other viewers) the most about this video was the thumbnail. It is a picture of a woman with “DARKIPLIER!?” written below it, with arrows connecting the woman to the name and vice versa. But, obviously, the two things don’t connect at all. Surely that woman isn’t Darkiplier, and if she is, then what is that supposed to mean? And, if you watch the video, you can clearly see that there IS no Darkiplier. If anything, the most exciting thing about the video is that he gets frustrated with the games, runs into a few errors, and looks back on his other playthroughs. But, looking through the comments section (I am not meaning to attack or criticize these people in any way, and I am keeping them anonymous. I am only trying to point out the overall message of these comments): “Roasting ‘Old Markiplier’ huh? So I guess... It has begun“ “This was unusual. I assume it's part of the greater meta narrative, but I did not enjoy this version of Mark. It was almost hard to watch. He was so negative and harsh, especially side by side with his older persona.“ “...its not mark...listen to how he talks about himself. The drastic change in his personality. This isnt mark....its Damian... there is more proof but no time look for me I will try to explain more“ “It’s all coming together now...“ ...or is it? Now, it is okay to be creative. It’s okay to speculate! But even in a video that lacked the past hints of the others, and didn’t even mention Darkiplier other than the thumbnail, people are assuming that this is not the real Mark. Why? Because he’s criticizing his past self, which he has always done. And, in my opinion, this is all due to Matpat’s theory. Before that video, everyone thought that Markiplier was just being himself (as far as I know). Now, people are just saying he’s a giant douchebag and ‘not himself’. Imagine him making a video, being himself, and reading those comments. So, there you have it. Though its fun to make theories, we need to think about what evidence those theories are based off of, and how comments like the ones above- our assumptions- could make Mark feel. Mark is a person. Sometimes he gets angry, sometimes he can be a douchebag, but that doesnt make him any less Mark. Finally, I’m not trying to assume things about Mark, I’m just trying to make sense of this whole situation. If Mark truly is just having fun with Darkiplier, that’s fine! And again, i’m not trying to make anyone feel bad about their theories, I’m just sharing my view on Mat’s theory in particular. (I didn’t talk about the other things he’s done like mention Celine/Darkiplier and forget to do his intro because I thought it would only make this post longer.
