how insane would it be for me to ask for all of the fob albums. anyway i'm not going to do that but i would like to know about folie a deux and lets throw a cheeky little youngblood in there too -hazel
ngl i'm a little grateful you didn't send in *all* the fob albums bc tbh i'm not that familiar with some of their really early stuff lol, but also i wouldn't have complained bc i really do need to listen to them properly. thanks for sending these in hazel ily and hope you're doing well :))
Folie a Deux:
the first song from this album I heard: perhaps surprisingly i’m pretty sure the first song i heard off this album was “disloyal order of water buffaloes” (i think i saw a lyric edit and was like *eyes emoji* what song is this sdkjfklsdjf)
do I own the album?: no, but as soon as i can convince myself it’s okay to spend money on things that spark joy that will change
my favorite song: i have been low-key obsessed with “headfirst slide” ever since i first heard it but i’m also more than a little in love with “west coast smoker” so they’re constantly dueling for first place (altho it’s an absolute brawl for second place so. there are a lot of bangers on this album)
my least favorite song: w.a.m.s. bc that outro is obscenely long. like, i like it conceptually on the album but please for the love of looping make it a separate track
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: i think i was pretty lukewarm about “america’s suitehearts” at first but i now can happily say it’s a bop
a song I used to like, but now don’t: uhhhh idk if there any like that on this album? ig i used to be more obsessed with “disloyal order” back when i knew less fob songs but i still like it a heck ton
my favorite lyric: if i could come up a solid plot to use “got my degree in the gutter my heart broken/in the dorms of the ivy league” that would already be a fully active wip but alas i can’t think of anything that does justice for that *chef’s kiss* of a lyric. also the entirety of “headfirst” and “a caterpillar that got stuck” and “nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy” and a bajillion others i’m currently blanking on
overall rating out of 10: 9/10 despite w.a.m.s. outro this album really does stick a lightning rod in my brain sometimes so i can’t give it any less
Youngblood:
the first song from this album I heard: according to my records it was lie to me, which makes sense considering i was introduced to 5sos by bella :)))
do I own the album?: yes!!! on cd!!! owning physical copies of music that aren’t took big to carry around my beloved <3
my favorite song: “why won’t you love me” has more power than any song has the right to and yet here we are. i will say that if it wasn’t so hhhhhhhhhhh then “more” & “moving along” would be battling for this spot instead
my least favorite song: listen. as a whole “empty wallets” is a banger with a delicious michael bridge, however. the chu-chunk sound at around 2:11 sounds like it was taken straight from “heathens” from twenty one pilots (or something similar) and for that reason i cannot listen to it without laughing a little. if that hadn’t been included who knows what the song might have been but we shall never know :notgroovydude:
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: according to my admittedly-not-super-reliably-accurate records, the last song i “liked” on spotify from this album was “meet you there” so maybe it took me a while to warm to it? it’s a bop (altho admittedly not super high on my list) so who knows what past megs was thinking not me
a song I used to like, but now don’t: uhh idk i think there really isn’t a song off youngblood that *isn’t* an absolute banger (yes even you, “empty wallets”) but ig i’m a little less enamored with “lie to me” than i was before? i mean i still adore it just not quite as much as i did in the past
my favorite lyric: maybe it’s just because i want to do a mini(ish) series revolving around the 5sos tshirt lyics universe, but “found that old zepplin shirt/you wore when you ran away and no one could feel your hurt” (not that it relates to the shirt necessarily but imagine having that as happening on a timeline with invisible before it. just. oof.)  i know i’m forgetting something big here,, this isn’t it but i like the sentiment/phrasing of “all of my wrongs they led me right to you”
overall rating out of 10: 9/10 not only does it have no skips but i think it’s very,,, tight? like all the songs feel/sound like they belong there if that makes sense. it’s not a perfect album by any means but it get much closer than most

Just gotta say it's nice to find fans who are OG and also a similar age to the boys cos fr I feel like the majority of the fam are like 14-16 (18 tops) and I'm out here the same age as the boys like ... Ahaha. And I do think it gives a different pov of their music to be their same age. Like, SGFG is my favourite, but ofc it is "immature". Nonetheless, a good half of the SGFG songs they could still perform today and it wouldn't sound weird for a mid 20s to perform (eg SOAU, V, OS, C22) 1/?
Like, dgmw, I adore JBH, but it's whole vibe is so teenage that I would have thought they would have dropped playing her by now (likewise with SKH...) Heck, even their early stuff they could still play and it not be weird (the exception of the obvious being like 18, KMKM, LB) but fan faves like WAYF or IYDK I don't think would be weird for them to play. They could also change the songs up a bit, too to make them sound more mature. Idk, it seems a waste if they plan to shift fully away. 2/?
They have a catalogue of what, over 100 songs? And seem to want to move away from all their early stuff when so much could still be played today. Yb is a great album, it's matured and you still have alot of SGFG (and even their 2014 EPs) vibes in there. So I'd say it's objectively my fave as I can understand the direction they took to mature to get there. CALM however I can't stand. It feels so try hard. I'm all forcreative expression but honestly can't stand the tinny RnB mix acoustic style 3/?
The mainstream complaint of the boys back in the day was that they were a boy band who were try hards to not be and to be punk rock when they aren't punks cos they don't have that edge to their attitude that punks do. But now they're very obviously trying sooo hard to be mainstream people don't seem to pick up on that. The whole RnB vibe when let's be real, it doesn't suit who they are at all. 4/?
Last one I swear sorry but I was just thinking about all this before I went to sleep aha. They claimed CALM was genre bending when it just doesn't work to be (while Yb was more so and actually worked) and also as tho that's unique to them when you have artists like Post Malone, YUNGBLUD and MGK out here executing genre bending incredibly well but that blatantly isn't their aim, they just make music they enjoy. Wish 5SOS could just reflect and do the same instead of being try hards.
*************************************************
Ok so, I think this last one goes with this grouping but I’m not sure? It’s not numbered and I technically already answered it but I’m throwing it in here anyways.
There are a lot of younger fans, I try not to judge them too much bc I was pretty young when I started listening to the guys, even tho I’m closer to their age. This being said there are definitely 15 year old fans out there being super problematic and immature on twt and everywhere else. The fandom was toxic way back when too tho, and there are people in their 30s, and mid twenties out here acting like immature disrespectful brats. You can find 16 y/os who are respectful of others, they may still have some growing up to do but I don’t think it’s fair to group alll younger fans into one category and all older fans into another. As I mentioned there are some pretty poorly behaved older fans out there, who flaunt their behaviour, as immature as it is. I think overall maturity is majorly lacking across all facets of the fandom. You’re lucky when you can find small pockets of it.
When we were on ST people liked to call us all sorts of names and sent us hate. And would turn around and say that we were so immature and hateful to Sierra. Reality is that we’ve never stooped that low, and we never will. We don’t post hate, we don’t send it and we don’t promote it.
As for age changing how people experience music, I tend to agree with you. There are certain songs that are attached to young experiences of mine. I think self-titled is the most immature, Amnesia makes me think about my high school heartbreak. I can’t relate it to my current life at all. I don’t really think SGFG is that immature, a part from the name. I think they just had a lot of other influences. I disagree that JBH has a teenage vibe to it. I would say for songs like Money, SKH, and Hey Everybody, or Gotta Get Out, Social Casualty, Reject etc. But JBH has more of an undercurrent of mental health than a need to break free of social constraints put in place by school and parents.
I fully agree that they should play more of their old stuff they have some amazing lock ass songs. Ones that didn’t become massive hits, but the majority of people that buy their records and come to their shows are fans that have been around awhile. They have it in their head they need to appeal to a bigger audience. Whether that’s a then thing or that’s soemthing management is imposing we can’t be sure. I feel like overtime they’ve grown less appreciative of the fans.
People have said if they didn’t evolve their sound they wouldn’t have survived, and I think some evolution is important but I don’t know that an outright complete genre switch is necessary for them to remain successful. Youngblood was a change from their punk pop roots, which we embraced and it was good but it was different. Why they felt the need to entirely shift from that seems so strange to me, and almost unnecessary? Maybe they are having an identity crisis. Even if they had stayed pop punk forever I think they would have been fine. As you mentioned the fanbase was always so strong behind them and a lot of the fans will blindly buy whatever they put out. I’m glad we got YB, I don’t understand why they could have just evolved form their rather than doing whatever the hell they did. Overall, I agree with a lot of what you had to say. And if also like to add I miss the punk vibe and the damn lip ring, grumble.

i was tagged by @theinvisiblemonsters thank u i love talking abt myself it’s the only thing i know a lot abt besides the tv shows i watch
1. your first real fandom, including OTP: ok so i’m gonna see this as like what interest you got involved in first, like participated in the community n shit so.... it’s magcon. now if you don’t know what that is i envy you but if you do then i want you to know i was 12. magcon stood for meet and greet convention and it was just a bunch of teen boy viners being dumbasses. a list of these viners would be: nash grier, cameron dallas, brent rivera, etc. basically all those guys that are basically now denounced for saying ignorant things. i defended them with all my might like i was just so obsessed, i made gifs and wrote fanfic it was a whole thing. regarding my OTP, it would have been me and brent LDJFDSHFD
2. current main fandom, including OTP: anyone who follows me knows there’s something new i’m shouting about on my blog every day like whatever you followed me for its just 1% of what my blog is and i apologize. i’m into so many diff things that i have to keep a list on my phone of all of them because i’ll genuinely just forget about it in the cluster of how much stuff i keep up with. if i had to say MAIN though like which ones i blog about the most or care about i’d say either voltron (even though it’s dead to me and also just dead in general) and stranger things. otp for voltron would obv be klance and for st it would be mileven uwu
3. personality trait you like most about yourself: i like my adaptability to situations. my life is just constantly always changing from moving and my mom generally being a wild card, like each month i’m always just in a totally different environment. and because of that i’ve gained the skill to just adapt to everything, like oh this is this now? we’re working with it no time to stop and take time readjusting bc there’s gonna be something new again soon so you just gotta work with it yeeeeeeehaw
4. if you could be any mythological creature what would you pick and why: def a fairy. i think they’re just so cute and magical. it would be super fun to fly, have magic, live in the areas they inhabit. and also i’ve been told that i look like a pixie/fairy. i actually almost got to dress up as one for a fairy tea party with kids, maybe one day
5. be able to talk to animals but not understand them or be able to understand them and not talk back; why: i would choose to understand them and not talk back because i fuckin KNOW my dog knows what i’m saying like he’ll look at me while he’s doing something wrong and i’ll be like “no gifford... stop” and he just makes eye contact with me while doing it. also he’s been having problems with anxiety lately and i just want him to be able to tell me what would calm him down bc nothing is working :(
6. early bird or night owl: night owl but i wish i was an early bird. waking up after a nice long sleep to see the sunrise just feels so productive. the feeling of confidence i get when i step outside fully dressed and ready to go at 9am to do some errands or smthn is immeasurable
7. weirdest fanfic i’ve ever read: ok so you have to understand, i’ve only read fanfic for a few diff fandoms. mainly the phandom, obv dan x phil, magcon like previously stated, some 5sos bc my bff used to be into them and she’d make me read them, and 1D ironically. that being said, i think either the hat fic or any other fic like that would be the weirdest one i’ve ever read, yall phannies KNOW what i’m talking about. that was without a doubt the weirdest shit i’ve read and even though i didn’t write it i want to personally apologize to dnp for ever having to lay eyes on it bc i know they’ve read it (also genuinely don’t look it up if you haven’t bc it’s pretty upsetting to read wdkajsklfjd)
8. your favorite fanfic: i once read this one where dan is really lonely and when he gets a new phone he names the siri phil and they like get close and he becomes like... alive which i know this sounds weird but it was genuinely pretty good and also i can’t remember any others
9. favorite superhero movie: into the spiderverse babey!!!!!!
10. what do you think the meaning of life/our reason of being here is: i don’t really think there is one. we have to just make our own meaning and intent. which i think is good, life is literally just a choose your own adventure game like it is literally all up to you how you live your life and why you do it
11. what does being a good person mean to you: having at least the basic amount of human decency to respect other people for who they are. literally just being nice to people, helping them, listening to them, etc.
i tag anyone whomst wants to do it, if you do you feel free to say i tagged you i’d love to read it, learning about ppl is gr8 B)
