hiiii! i see you have a bunch of different dean ships that you enjoy on occasion in your bio :D deanbela isn't there tho so i was wondering your opinion on that, if you have one?

Dean and Bela's relationship is fascinating! I meant to talk about it more when I was rewatching season 3 but got distracted and now my thoughts about them are like a bunch of bees swarming around I can't capture them all. But my god. The mutual hatred born through recognition of the self in the other. 🤌 "I hate myself. I am awful. And I accept that and it means I deserve to die." Coupled with "I don't deserve this fate. I don't deserve to be condemned because of the things that happened to me."

They squabble and fight and tell each other "You suck you're awful you're the worst person" but when Bela is drowning (and it's all her own fault and she condemned the other victims too so he's mad mad mad) Dean stops everything to just hold onto her so she doesn't die alone.

Their last conversation is horrible it's under horrible circumstances. Bela thought she just assassinated both of them to save her own skin but they saw her coming and now she knows she's going to die, and Dean is furious at her because she was going to kill them (and this isn't the first time she nearly got them killed) and he's furious also because he thinks "If you had just worked with us we could have saved you" but like... that is also Dean talking about himself? He spent the first part of season 3 refusing to aid in subverting his own approaching demise. He thought he deserved it. Bela thinks she deserves this too. But also they both know they don't? A part of them knows "I do not deserve to go to hell". But now it's too late. It's too late for Bela. It's too late for Dean.

BELA: The Demon that holds [your contract]. She holds mine too. She said she holds every deal. DEAN: She? BELA: Her name's Lilith. DEAN: Lilith? Why should I believe you? BELA: You shouldn't but it's the truth. DEAN: This can't help you, Bela, not now. Why you telling me this? BELA: Because just maybe you can kill the bitch. DEAN: I'll see you in hell.

He'll see her in hell. He knows he won't succeed. They're both going to lose. They won't even get the satisfaction of vengeance. They HATE each other but also they see themselves in each other and that's the biggest reason they hate each other but there's also this fragile whisper of affection in their interactions (seen most prominently in their delightful banter) and it's because deep down they both know they do not deserve this and they shouldn't hate themselves this much. They deserve to live.

I’m just going to choose a few ships that have been on my mind. Also, tbh, the song choices are heavily influenced by a.) what I’ve been listening to recently; b.) a very sui generis sense of humour. I’m not sorry.

-Eleanor Guthrie & Max from Black Sails. Mirel Wagner’s “What Love Looks Like” was the first that came to mind. PERFECT for their breakup, IMO (“this pain I breath / has poisoned me / dreamt a dream / now I’m spitting bitter tears”). But. I won’t lie. Immediately afterwards I thought of Donna Summer’s “Bad Girls” , which I’ve been listening to on a loop this week. Err. Take it as a pre-show established relationship thingy that highlights a messed up, rarely talked about aspect of their relationship? (“hey mister, have you got a dime / mister, do you want to spend some time, oh yeah / I got what you want, you got what I need / I’ll be your baby, come and spend it one me”).

-Lyra Silvertongue & Will Parry from His Dark Materials. I’m going to pick Hozier & Karen Crowley’s “In A Week”, Because (“we’ll lay here for years or for hours / thrown here or found, to freeze or to thaw / so long, we’d become the flowers / two corpses we were, two corpses I saw / and they’d find us in a week / when the weather gets hot / after the insects have made their claim / I’d be home with you, I’d be home with you”).

-Caroline Forbes & Klaus Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries. I’m specifying that one show, and focusing on the early days, because TO had a progression that definitely doesn’t fit the song that came to mind LOL: Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” (“like anyone would be / I am flattered by your fascination with me / like any hot blooded woman / I have simply wanted an object to crave / but you, you’re not allowed / you’re uninvited / an unfortunate slight“)... yeah xDD

-Bela Talbot & Dean Winchester from Supernatural. I keep thinking of them thanks to, of all things, this gifset of Lilah and Wesley in Angel (which is also making me want to rewatch the season 4 finale and cry about it, btw). I’m faaaar better at coming up with solo Bela songs than with Deanbela songs, I can’t lie xD (some of them work for both of them since the similarities are there, but not exactly for their dynamic iykwim). But, I mean. I don’t think I can’t resist picking Siouxsie and the Banshee’s “Face to Face”. It’s the Batcat song! ( “another life, another time / we’re siamese twins writhing intertwined / face to face, no telling lies / the masks slide to reveal a new disguise / [...] / and you’ll never know / you’ll never know / you’ll never know”).

-Laila Rose & Darius Calantis from The Essence of the Equinox (see rec post here!). Florence & The Machine’s “What Kind of Man” popped into my head immediately. Although, in my mind, it’s Darius singing it <333 (“and with one kiss / you inspired a fire of devotion / that lasted twenty years / what kind of man loves like this / to let me dangle at a cruel angle / my feet don’t touch the floor / somethings you’re half in and then you’re half out / but you never close the door”).

Like I loved Bela. She was a fresh of breath air when I first watched. Watching them was fun. But beandenny was tragic and painful and drowley was tragic long after it was hot girl summer, but also during. Cassie should have gotten more screentime. A crime.

how i feel about him: what can i possibly say about dean.... he planted himself inside my mind in elementary school and i have thought about him ever since. he checks like every box for things that interest me in a character.

romantic ships: well theres the obvious answer of cas. my position on destiel is that i DO believe in it im just not super invested purely bc i dont really care about romantic relationships. but when im in the right mood i do enjoy them. deancassie of course.. deanvictor.. will i get cancelled if i say deanalastair.

non-romantic otps: john obvs. sam as well i suppose although im not as compelled by sam & dean dynamic as i am by john & dean. deanbela is not an 'otp' per se because they do not get along but i could see them interact forever. OH and tessa/death. 😖 they are so gentle with him.

unpopular opinion: uhhh lets see. i am not that compelled by deans like.. gender/sexuality issues. like im sure they're there but frankly nowhere near as extreme as most posts on here read it. perhaps its because ive never really been compelled by internalized homophobia stories but its really like. the least interesting of deans list of problems.

things i wish happened/were different in canon: okay well 1) obviously more preseries content. i want to see dean like after school special-aged but with better characterization than he had in after school special lol. 2) one thing that annoys me EVERY time i think about it is that deaging ep they did in s10 or whatever it was and how much they wasted it. like. it didn't add anything to our understanding of dean and if you're going to do a deaging ep whats the point of physically deaging someone and not also mentally deaging them it's just BORING. 3) more consistency and focus on his trauma around hell & alastair

sam:

how i feel about him: i think i appreciate & understand sam a lot more now than i did when i first got into spn. im not super invested in him most of the time but when his arcs get me im more emotionally impacted by them than any of deans stuff. i have like a pavlovian response to lucifer rising im in full tears the second any of the church scene plays.

romantic ships: hrm.... i guess ruby? although it makes me very very sad whenever i think about samruby. i haven't seen enough of eileen yet to have an opinion on her either way...samwena IS hot but im not invested in the later seasons enough to like..actively care about them.

non-romantic otps: well, dean and i think cas too. im not on board with all of that sam and cas secretly hate eachother or dont care about eachother stuff. they are friends!!

unpopular opinion: hrmm... i dont really know what the popular or unpopular sam opinions are... i do dislike the sentiment that goes around that sam was like completely protected from johns abuse by dean when like. its established in s1 that this is not true we know it isnt. oh this is more an unpopular opinion about sam & dean than specifically sam but honestly i think an ending where they both die together is less interesting than an ending where one dies and the other is forced to live. but not in a carry on way where we see like the rest of their life. more like a swan song way where it just ends at that.

things i wish happened in canon: much like everybody else i do wish sam had died at the end of s5 or s8 and also that sam had gotten to go more darkside in s3/4. i haven't rewatched s4 recently enough to remember exactly how the show frames it/what actually goes down but i wish sam was like more objectively in the wrong in s4 bc i think him being pushed and manipulated into doing bad things for some alleged greater good is more compelling. and i think that's what s4 was trying to go for but it just ended up like framing fairly reasonable/neutral actions as wrong without actually backing it up. but again i haven't seen s4 that recently.

January: ooooh, January was a good month (I need to return to my regular Black Sails giffin this year asdfaf). The very apt transition of a Silverflint scene with Thomas’ “everybody needs a partner quote” lol. Max being smug about her seduction techniques xD; Bela revealing herself as a conwoman; Dean and Bela’s first proper meeting, when he breaks into her house (their scenes this episode fucked so hard *-*); Silverflint ~courting each other with their cunning schemes in 2x02 xD; and Flint putting on The Coat in the candlelight.

February: February was also a good month. You have Bela stealing money from the Winchesters; Eleanor pointing out the hold Miranda has over Flint; Dean’s failure to read Bela; Deanbela engaging in Hot Batcat Shit; Miranda seducing Flint 1 + 2; and Bela and the Winchesters inconveniencing each other (also called hostile flirting, by me).

March: honestly all of the sets from this subplot/scene(s) are great and hilarious (and took me well over a month because Bela has looooots of scenes in 3x06 lol), but the one where Bela makes Dean look like a cuckhold? Classic.

April: this one with characters I see myself in; Sam and Ruby engaging in gun play; this hilarious Jack Rackham-Castiel parallel (I’M NOT SORRY); Bela’s outfits in 3x06 because she looks gorgeous and looks like leading girl material; and my “Castiel saved Bela per Sam’s request in 3x06″ self-indulgent set :D

May: I love all the sets I made for SPN Women’s Week, but especially the one combining my faves + Greek mythological figures; this one with my top ten where I got to try a new effect in giffing since... forever ago, with transitioning images; and this other one of my faves, because. Also, all of the gifs I made for Reign’s challenge, Because.

June: THEE (sexy) Inesper scene (posted on my birthday, nice gift from me to me. Also, man, colouring this show is a paaaaain lol); this set of Luisa D’Oliveira’s blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in Superngirl (a show I don’t watch, but she looked pretty and wore a lilac leather jacket AND was hancuffed in one scene? C’mon); this Rizzy edit I made for @equusgirl‘s bday, ‘cause I miss my bbys; and this scene from Watchmen ‘cause I think Cal’s hilarious.

July: the final set I made for SPN POC Week, mixing my fave characters with Greek mythological figures (again, I love all the gifsets I made for that event but that one is so *-*); this parallel set between a scene from Angel and one from Scandal with a ~pathos I find really moving; and the one I made from the scene in Supernatural’s season 3 episode 10 where Sam dreams he eats Bela’s pussy. Very feminist of him <3

August: this angsty series finale Silver-centric/Silvermadi-Silverflint set; THEE (emotional) Inesper scene; and this Castiel/godstiel set with a quote from 1994′s Frankenstein film (NOT from the original book!! I’m petty about this but people keep misatributing it lol).

September: okay I can reduce this month to one! Celebratory Castiel gifset on the anniversary of his introduction to the show xD (warning for flashing gifs)

October: this Silverflint series finale set; this wonderful scene where Dorian tells off Stefan in TVD (being meaning to edit that for YEARS), and this Regina-Cora set I made for @lvcilla‘s bday.

November: nooooooo, not the Megstiel Fest month :(((. LOL. I refuse to choose between the one with Megstiel’s kiss + Like Real People Do, this other one with Halsey’s honey, and (okay, fine, this might be my most favouritest) the criminally unnapreciated Megstiel + Batman Returns Batcat parallels set :DDD

December: can’t choose between this endverse!Castiel gifset with “Achilles Come Down” or this Dadstiel gifset <333
