Carmy Berzatto — summer prompts 🍋
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: heavily influenced by this TikTok [user: addamsfilms] that put out the idea of bringing Rory culkin onto the show as Carmy’s blood cousin so here it is. Always liked rory so I thought why not? Also watched the show with Rory’s character they mashed up with Carmy’s “the expecting” and it was definitely weird af but I’m not really taking it in that direction lol. Definitely ended up completely different than I originally started! Some light hearted moments from a light hearted OC/Reader with a touch of heaviness because it’s still the bear after all.
*GIFS BELONG TO: @quinzelgifs + @pranink & @thepunkpanther
PROMPT from this list here: Making popsicles.
WARNINGS: kinda lengthy if you have the time, platonic carmy relationship? You tell me. Language ofc + things get physical somewhere towards the bottom, let us pray for Carmy 👀

there’s this dull feeling that sits in the center of her chest but after a couple of breaths and the longer she stares at the boarded building, it goes away for now. The air is misty, the sky grey with a faint of yellow behind it; in the shape of the sun begging to be released. She’s not sure how long she’s been rotating her view of staring at the becoming of the bear and the sky but after awhile her body moves her inside.
Inside provides better warmth from Chicago’s spring that she’s peeling off her trench coat. She smells plaster, paint, and dust first before she studies the new layout that’s in mind for the restaurant. It feels much more open than the last time she set foot in here and although it’s only been a few weeks, she still feels like she might have missed out on a lot.
It’s loud inside the bear, drilling, the talking—yelling—it’s the same thing around here and knocking filling her ears as her brown eyes drift back to the only greenery inside. Her eyes go wide as she slowly steps forward to the potted Strelitzia, birds of paradise—if you prefer simpler terms, leaves beginning to droop and tan, later also finding no other than a used cigarette in its dry soil.
She lets out a scream, gaining the attention of Manny and Angel first who are quickly alerted with her presence, wearing their protective head gear before footsteps follow.
“Hey, there she is!” Richie yells as she stands up straight from her leaned over position, “welcome back to the hell hole, starstar!”
She blinks and places a small genuine smile on her face, “It looks great so far but tell me why there’s a cigarette just chilling in my plant?”
Richie glances at the said item and raises his hands in surrender, “wasn’t me this time! Take it up with thing 1 and 2.”
She dips her head, tongue pressing to the roof of her mouth until Richie brings her into a embrace, lightly shaking her from side to side. She swallows the smidge of annoyance for now, a simple hand going around to place on the 6’1 man’s back for a moment.
“Good to see ya!” Richie clicks his tongue just as more faces appear from the kitchen.
First it’s sweeps followed by Tina and Tyler who halts at the door.
“Starla! Sup girl! How’s that stomach treating you?” Sweeps holds out a fist for the girl to bump who snorts as her knuckles touches his.
She knows the man is lightly teasing her, as he analyzes the wall before taking a comfortable lean against it. Starla picks up on this and makes a mental note to ask about it later but she’s still a little annoyed that her baby is slowly failing.
“Yes, mama. How are you?” Tina wraps her arms around Starla, tenderly rubbing her back before moving to stand beside her, arm still wrapped around her waist.
“Eh…a lot better.”
Sweeps comments with a chuckle as he munches on some chips, “We told you not to eat that shit.”
“You did. I just didn’t want to be rude you know?” Was Starla’s reply as Sweeps shook his head.
“And where that get you huh?”
Richie sneezed and sniffed, “Yeah, starstar! You’ve got to kick that people pleasing habit out the way!”
This the young woman already knew, even when Tina nodded her head and continued squeezing her to her side. It was two weeks ago when she decided to try out this new “gourmet” food truck probably six blocks over and ordered some curry goat. She sent pics to the group chat and you already know that shit was fired up—except for the lack of response she received from Carmy.
Not that it mattered anyways, Starla still ate the meal in front of the owners because she was simply starving and on lunch break. Food poisoning was not fun or a good feeling but for the sake of not embarrassing the cooks on the truck…Starla ate the meal. It originally wasn’t horrible at the start, it also wasn’t the best flavor wise but it was ultimately the after that utterly destroyed Starla’s insides.
Which ended up with a nice trip to the hospital and a ugly bill in the mail a week later. Yes she was a woman down for a little while, which sucked for the bear since they needed all the help they can get. It was crazy to not only Starla but to be aware that the goal was to be open in May was mind-boggling. There was so much to do on the list and with Starla being around part-time, she helped out when she could.
Now she was back and she still didn’t know what she was stepping into.
“Hey Star,” Tyler takes his opening as he smiles at her from across the room.
Star smiles back, “Hey, Ty.”
“Glad you’re feeling okay.”
“Thanks, me too.”
Tina hums up at Starla who shushes the older curly haired woman as Tyler moves where the main counter used to be.
“I thought I heard a familiar voice in here,” Sugar greets as she leads the way with Carmy and Sydney not far behind, “how are you? Doing okay? Missed you.”
Starla lightly laughs as the blonde ambushes her with questions and hugs, “I’ve missed you too, Nat.”
“Jesus, let the girl breathe, will you?” Richie calls out while Sugar turns a icy glare to the man with the sledgehammer.
“How’s billy?” Sydney asks afterwards, “…you know the goat?”
“Wow, that joke was awful. Hi, Syd.” Starla says with her usual smile full of laughter lines as the girls share a high-five in greeting.
Starla adds, “I’m definitely vegan now and I’m also wondering why no one’s been looking after my plant.”
Of course Starla knew this was a big request to ask of anybody here and she asked numerous of times if it was okay to leave here. She was met with lots of reassurance from the Berzatto siblings and Sydney that it was fine, just to be met with her dear Cecil fighting for his life here.
“Oh fuck.” Sugar hisses as she peers over at her brother who holds a hand up from his crossed arm position, “I knew we were forgetting to do something.”
Starla pouted as she shifts her jacket from one arm to the other, “It was my mistake for thinking that this currently boarded up place had enough light for my baby.”
“It does—
Carmy starts…
“It will!” Sugar and Sydney say at the same time as Carmy starts speaking a word to Starla.
Tyler raises a finger, “I wish I would have known that was your plant, I would have taken it back to mine and my mom, who’s in town, could have looked after it. She’s good with things like that.”
“Oh no, you’ve done more than enough,” Starla fans her hand at the bandana wearing man, “Thank you though.”
Tyler dips his head with a smile again and Carmy picks up on this. It was no secret that Tyler’s been the most hands on when it came to Starla falling ill. Starla was not expecting this and appreciated the rest who did reach out to her considering they were all under intense pressure. A simple text was fine every now and then just to check in but Tyler felt the need to show up with remedies of self-care packages with the time he did make for her.
It was also no secret that Tyler had his eyes on Starla. How he would get caught just staring at her adoringly from across the room, completely checked out from any conversation he may be having with anyone else. He reached out to Carmy after hearing from Uncle Jimmy about the “shit ton” of help he was going to need in rebuilding the family business.
Carmy was reluctant on bringing Tyler in but he knew he needed more cooks and sure Tyler was only used to preparing diner meals (since that’s all he worked in back in Massachusetts and what he was familiar and comfortable with) but breakfast was Tyler’s specialty, he was eager to learn the ropes, and he had his own special craft.
Who was Carmy to deny that?
Carmy and Tyler weren’t the closest growing up, with Tyler only being a year older but it’s not like they saw each other a lot back then either. If Carmy told you that his mother, Donna Berzatto was a lot…then you can only imagine her younger sister, Lydia, who happened to be Tyler’s mother.
Donna was three years older than Aunt Lydia and once upon a time they were proven to be very close growing up from the bits and pieces Carmy remembers. Apparently Lydia was a, “Prissy man stealing whore and if she had the chance she would have stolen your father if he wasn’t in love with me instead!”
Whatever transpired between his mother and Tyler’s had nothing to do with Carmy’s relationship with his cousin. They just never saw each other, Tyler was heavily into science as a kid, with aliens being at the top of the list, and easily socializing with others whereas Carmy had a stutter that made him shy, studying denim along with ways to style jeans snd preferred world travel books. They emailed a couple of times as kids until Tyler started going to camp and Carmy rather stick to seeing what Michael was up to.
“Look uh, Star. I’m sorry about the plant—
“Cecil.”
Carmy blinked, “what?”
“His name, it’s Cecil.”
Carmy looked around at all the other faces in the room with him right now, resulting in wide eyes from Sugar, a shrug of shoulders from Syd, a stern look from Tina, amusement on Tyler’s face and Sweeps just continued eating unfazed.
“Show some fucken respect, Carmy. StarStar said the things name is Cecil. Cecil the plant! so address it as such!” Richie yelled out to the stressed man.
Starla thought she saw Carmy’s eye twitch and she was expecting that to become an argument between the two men—like usual—but Carmy simply just ran his hands over his face in distress. Exhaling he stepped forward to rest his hands on Starla’s shoulders.
“Want to catch up in the kitchen for a sec, Star?” Carmy asked, peering at the woman.
Starla answers, “sure.”
And with that they exit the deconstructed room to head into the kitchen together but not without a set of wondering eyes. Starla follows Carmy into the office where he awaits for her to take a seat while she’s stops, staring at the hole in the wall.
She pointed while Carmy exhales, “just another thing to add to the list.”
“Okay…so fill me in.”
“Have a seat first.”
“Oh god.”
“No, it’s not anything like that.”
Starla takes a seat, eyes going over some paint swatches for the new office and tilted her head at the sight, trying to fully picture it.
“First and foremost, how are you holding up?”
Starla wiggled in her seat, fixing her imaginary bow around her neck, “Oh! Just dandy, Mr. Berzatto. I sure do appreciate your sentiments.”
Carmy snorts, reaching forward to lightly shove her knees away playfully, “okay, wise ass. No but seriously, you’re doing okay?”
“Always! Of course,” Starla beams with a fan of her hand, “When am I not?”
Carmy presses his elbows into his knees, “uh two weeks ago when you were puking and shitting your brains out?”
“I don’t need the throwback visuals. I lived it already, thanks.” Starla crossed one leg over the other.
Carmy clears his throat, “uh right, yeah. Sorry.”
“Uh huh…are you okay, Chef?”
Carmy shifts his eyes back from the tunnel that wants to set in, a flash of white almost appearing above Starla’s head as he focuses in on the question that’s asked of him.
“Hm?”
“Is something bothering you? Want to talk about it?”
“Oh no,” Carmy frowns with a brief close of his eyes, “I didn’t bring you back here to talk about me. I wanted to check in with you because I know I haven’t been as attentive as I could have been when you were down and I want to apologize for that.”
Starla shrugs, “all I care about is Cecil. His growth should be much bigger and that was a bit of a let down.”
Carmy begins bouncing his leg, “And I don’t ever want you to feel that way because of me, especially when it was my responsibility to at least look out for the damn plant.”
“Talk to it, water it, give it sunlight, and breathe it in.” Starla listed.
“…that salt you’re throwing…stings you know?”
Starla let’s out a small laugh, “well there was a cigarette just lingering in his soil. How is he supposed to grow if there’s nothing but toxins being placed on his roots?”
Carmy couldn’t say much to that since he couldn’t recall if he was the culprit who may or may not have thrown the stick in there on his way out. He also felt like Starla was giving him some philosophy lesson since she tended to do that without notice sometimes. And whenever he pointed it out, she’d just whisper her grandfather’s name who was a retired philosophy professor down at Columbia College Chicago.
“Heard,” carmy remembers to breathe, “I fucked up.”
“Kinda but that’s okay. I won’t hold it against you,” Starla placed her hand on top of Carmy’s, who briefly stares down at their hands together, “We all do sometimes and I’ll get Cecil back together.”
“I have no doubts about that,” Carmy answers, “you’re the one with the green thumb.”
“And apparently Tyler’s mom is too.”
Carmy sits back at that, suddenly quiet which makes a frown attempt to make it’s way on Starla’s round face.
“What was that?”
“What was what?”
“That thing you just did with your face.”
“I just look like this, what do you want me to do?” Carmy was confused and Starla can’t help but to snort out a laugh.
Starla gets to her feet, brown coat held in her hands, “okay car…”
“Are we good?” Carmy stares up at her.
Starla pauses, pretending to think about it, “Duh! I don’t know if you know this Carmy but i consider you family and you’re stuck with me.”
Carmy felt a crooked smile itching to break onto the corner of his lips but he just shakes his head at the brunette. He’s not sure how to feel about that or if he should feel a way about that but at least it’s something.
At least she’s not pissed at him.
The thing about Starla is you’re never sure when she’s upset. She’s usually the happy go lucky one in the restaurant, the soft spoken one. Carmy quickly learned why Michael liked having her around. She brought a sense of peace during the chaos. Starla was as interesting as it comes since she had the culinary experience but didn’t feel the obsession with it.
Cooking became a hobby and once it became a profession she learned it wasn’t something she was in love with like other chefs. She wasn’t ready to devote her entire life into the craft and respectfully she stepped away from it. Until she came across Chicagoland, ready to order until she heard Michael Berzatto yelling about the lack of ingredients. She stepped in with a suggestion and from there, Michael wanted her in the shop for her quick thinking but gentle nature.
It wasn’t a done deal by any means, she proved herself in the kitchen with her out of the box thinking. Yes she went to school for a year, almost two, which she learned a lot spending time in the Netherlands but that didn’t feel like her purpose. It just felt like a experience that she was grateful for and could share with others from time to time but she enjoyed the roots of culinary arts in different spaces.
Which means most of her time was spent working at farmer’s markets and tending to farms (yes in Chicago!) and community gardens. That’s where her heart lay but she had to be honest and say a piece of it would always be here too.
“Good, Good.” Carmy states as he’s now on his feet, resting his arm across Starla’s shoulder, beginning to lead her out of the office while his phone buzzes.
Starla sighs, “you know what would make this tense energy better?”
“What’s that?” Carmy searches his pocket for his phone, peeking at it but continued holding it in his hand.
She rests her head against his shoulder in deep thought, “Making popsicles.”
“Marcus is still in Copenhagen.”
“Please. I’m well aware, that’s my other bestie. Location on at all times.” Starla stares at Carmy as if he’s just offended her.
Carmy scratches at his brow, thankful that his phone stopped buzzing, “that’s a thing?”
“Heck yeah it is! You can’t just send my bestie away to another country and not expect me to not keep consensual tabs on him! And I would do the same thing for each and everyone of you if they decide to leave for awhile.”
Carmy stops walking as he looks at Starla, “and what if you decide to leave?”
“Then…I guess that means I’d truly wouldn’t want to be found. Which would take a lot for me to do, I’m sure.” Starla faces the wild-haired man who pinched at his bottom lip in thought.
Carmy recently had this dream—or nightmare of Starla calling it quits. He summed it up as Starla breaking free—and that’s on high school musical! There were haunting cellos, the setting was iridescent but gritty and Carmy couldn’t see Starla’s face. He just knew they were sitting face to face on a white solid floor that turned into milk and he kept wanting to reach out to her but couldn’t. He felt his mouth moving but couldn’t hear anything but the cellos.
carmy didn’t know what that would mean if that became reality.
“Popsicles in the middle of April? I don’t know about that, we’re still trying to get the repairs done because we really can’t fail another inspection.” Carmy informs Starla who grips his shoulders.
“Listen, we can all use a beach day.”
“I’m not going to beach.” Carmy’s nose scrunched in distaste.
Starla pokes at his chest, “Okay fine! We don’t have to physically go there but I’ll bring the beach to you.”
“How is that going to work?”
“You have all this extra space now.” She taps her temple.
“There’s mold in the back room, holes in the walls, Syd and I are still working on the menu, walls that still need to be painted, inspections that need to be approved, new furniture that’s been placed in storage—
“And we will get to all of that. I’m sure all of the progress that you’ve made still counts for something and I can’t wait for you to realize that.” Starla told Carmy as she squeezed his shoulders, “and I’m gonna make you a appointment with my mom so she can get those boulders out of your shoulders but first…popsicles!”
Just like a flash of a camera, Starla whirls by him, pushing the kitchen doors open as she claps her hands getting the attention of everyone, “friends! May I have your attention, please?!”
“Guys! Star’s talking!” Tyler calls out to the rest, eyes solely set on her.
Starla winks at the round blue-gray eyed man across the room in thanks before clearing her throat, “Carmy and I are proposing the idea of a summer’s day.”
“Which means what? I don’t follow.” Tina asks, figuring that maybe a new culinary term she may have missed out on.
“I’m gonna go striking?!” Richie raises his fist in the air with a wide grin full of teeth.
Sydney immediately shields her face, “Oh please no.”
“Hearing that is making me nauseous again.” Sugar covers her mouth.
“You better not, don’t nobody want to see that.” Tina points at the taller man who just kisses his lips at the Latina.
“What?! I’ve got a great body,” Richie defends, “Just ask Freya!”
Fak pokes his head out from around the corner, “I believe you buddy! I’ve accidentally walked in on them once—
“Whoa! Hey! Shut the fuck up, please.” Carmy scowls, not wanting his old time friend to finish that sentence.
“Love you man, thanks for having my back! Unlike some people.” Richie slaps Fak on his back while glaring at Carmy who sneers at him in response.
Starla puts her hand on Carmy’s shoulder while sending a look to Richie who stands back on the balls of his feet, slowly putting his F U motion down from his chin once he realized Starla’s brown eyes were on his.
“As I was saying…we’re bringing summer to the bear a little early! Which means—
She lightly bumps Carmy’s shoulder to finish, “which means uh, making popsicles.”
“Making popsicles?” Sweeps asks, “I’m down.”
“And what else?” Carmy whispers to Starla.
Starla tells, “and we’re gonna have a beach day basically.”
“How are we gonna do that? Are we actually going to beach?” Tina questions.
Carmy quickly tossed in, “No. we don’t really have the time.”
“But we have time to make popsicles?” Sydney holds her arms out in bafflement.
It’s Carmy’s turn to stare at his partner considering her very valid concerns, “Look I know this is unexpected coming from me. However I’m taking my conversation with Star into consideration and will allow this break as a uh—as a learning experience for us all. I’m not the best at desserts and treats so this’ll give us the chance to bond and get inspired by your inputs by contributing this to the menu.”
“Wow, Carmy. That was beautiful.” Fak cradles his wrench to his chest while Carmy just shrugs, briefly glancing at Starla who smiles at him.
Sugar lifts her shoulder, “whatever, I can use a beach day.”
“You just pulled that out of your ass but I’m fucken tired of looking at these walls so why not?” Richie tossed the sledgehammer over his shoulder, making Angel quickly side-step out of the way.
Carmy ignores Richie again, “Angel, Manny. You guys can head on home and we’ll save you some of the popsicles for you to try tomorrow. Thanks for your work today.”
“You got it boss.”
“Good luck!” Angel chucks up the deuces as he leads the way through the kitchen.
Tina raises her hand, making Carmy point at her, “Jeffery, you said you’re not much of dessert guy so who’s gonna lead us on this?”
“Is it gonna be you, Star?” Sydney asks.
It’s Tyler’s turn to raise his hand, “Um, I can show everyone.”
Carmy blows out a breath, “I was hoping you say that.”
Everyone found themselves gathered in the kitchen, the heart of the bear as Tyler awkwardly held everyone’s attention. Breakfast maybe his specialty but slushies counted as breakfast just as much as smoothies. And popsicles were in the same category right? Tyler knows what he was doing, he swears! Starla stood right beside him, resting a hand full of comfort on his arm which made him stand up a little taller.
“Walk us through the steps, Chef.” Carmy tells his cousin, swaying from one foot to the other as Tyler swallows his nerves but nods his head.
Tyler clasps his hands together, “Okay so popsicles. It’s a lot easier than some might think and I believe we have all the tools we need…depending on what type of popsicles we’re interested in making.”
“I’m sure whatever you choose will be tasty.” Sugar encourages as she leans against one of the tables.
Tyler smiles a bit at his family member, “okay so what you would do is select the fruits you want as your main flavors. I know we have some fruits we can spare, perhaps the raspberries and pineapples?”
“Whatever you need, Chef.” Carmy replies.
Tyler continues, “Thank you Chef. We’re going to chop those fruits up and set half of them to the side but depending on the consistency you want, keep to the side or you can blend the other half or the entire fruit if that makes sense. From there you want to pick your liquid, I personally think rice milk is fire and also your safe bet if you’re serving to a party of people for the first time.”
“Rice milk? That’s a choice.” Sydney hums as she takes this in.
“Yes, Chef. I think it has the best consistency out of all the milks but I’m sure you and Carmy will figure out the best options if this becomes a keeper.”
Sydney glimpses at Carmy who holds her stare before they both turn back to Tyler. Starla also takes notice of this but figured that their thing and has nothing to do with her so she gives Tyler her time.
He goes on about selecting a sweetener of choice, he likes agave nectar, and possibly a hint of something cool, which is optional, like mint whether fresh or with syrup along with a splash of lime. Tina, Sydney, and Richie are on chopping duty while Tyler, Starla, and sweeps tend to the liquids.
Carmy is supervising it all, watching syrup come together as one in a pot before they have to get combined with the fruit. Tyler asks carmy for a few important tools, curious if that was something the restaurant owned for this snack since it’s not what he used back home at the diner. They don’t have the right machine to freeze the popsicles in minutes, which is okay Starla notifies, saying that they can actually venture off to the beach day as she disappears for a good twenty minutes while the rest carry on.
Starla spins around Carmy, seeming brighter as Tyler is using a stainless steel confectionary funnel to pour the soup like popsicle into the molds that sat on the counter. He then encourages everyone to do the same with the set of molds before bringing them to the freezer.
“That shit looks good as fuck, how long do they have to sit for?” Tina asks with a lick of her lips.
Tyler is wiping his hands on a rag, “I’d say at least six hours.”
“Six hours?! It’s already three o’clock.”
Tyler pursed his lips but appears apologetic, “If we had those huge instant freezers then we wouldn’t have to wait as long but time flies fast.”
“I’m leaving at six by the latest, make sure you guys save me one.” Sugar orders with a smile.
“What’s next?”
Fak exhales, “Man, That was shortest break ever.”
“It’s not over yet,” Starla places her hands on the counter, “please head to the beach oasis where the lockers once were.”
Murmurs fill the kitchen area as everyone heads in the direction mentioned. There sat a few beach chairs, towels, decorative sand, a umbrella, a projector that showed the ocean, along with the nagging sound of seagulls, and finally LED studio lights that mimics the hot sun during a summer’s day.
“Whaaaat!” Fills the room as everyone stared around the space in awe.
Starla calls out, “Welcome to a beach day at the bear, friends!”
“There’s actually a cooler here full of beer, hard lemonade and sandwiches. I’m sold and I love you, kid!” Richie yells, ready to yank his arms out of his shirt but not without yanking Starla’s cheeks to place a kiss on her forehead before stalking back to the sand.
Starla watches in peace as everyone makes themselves comfortable from sitting down or lounging in the faux sand.
“You really went all out,” Carmy says from beside Starla, “how long have you had this planned?”
“It’s been on my mind for awhile actually but it really came into effect after I learned about all these inspections,” Starla confesses, “Go on, look at the water, listen to the waves and the seagulls. Really enjoy it and be one with nature.”
Enjoyment? What’s that?
Carmy scratches at his hair, “…I’ll try as long as you officially promise you’re gonna be with us on opening night?”
“Do you really want another chopped on your hands?” Starla inquires.
Carmy looks up at the ceiling thinking about it. He’s heard about Starla’s unaired episode on chopped and how that was the third straw on her not wanting to seriously cook anymore. He figured it was traumatic enough especially since there’s footage that’s not been seen. He felt for Starla truly but he wasn’t afraid to push because he felt she needed to be on his team. If Michael saw it in her then, Carmy definitely saw it too.
“You’re better than that.”
“Oh, I’m not so sure.”
“Practice makes perfect.”
“Nothings perfect and I accept that.”
“Well I don’t.”
“Carmy, Starla’s said before that she doesn’t know if she’ll be with us in the kitchen on opening night and we should just respect that. Im sure she’ll still be here to support regardless if she has on a apron or not.” Tyler cuts in, making them both realize that he had been right beside them this entire time.
Carmy turns his stare to Tyler then, “I didn’t really ask for your input on this, Tyler. I’m the one that gets the say on building this team.”
Tyler sighs, “I’m just saying if you’re trying to keep your team then maybe you shouldn’t just only see your point of view. That’s all.”
Carmy’s tone is clipped now, “I’m sorry, what the fuck are you talking about?”
“Starla’s been saying that she doesn’t feel enjoyment in cooking anymore. It just a hobby but Michael wanted her here and you’re kinda forcing her to still be here, although it’s part time. Don’t you get that it sounds like guilt tripping?”
“Are you serious?” Carmy glared at Tyler now, “do you honestly think I have to force anyone to be here? Like I’m not building this to actually be worth something? Worth something that people want to work here, put their soul into? Anybody can fuck off, including you.”
“Hey, Car.” Starla steps forward pushing his finger down as she looks back at Tyler who’s brows are raised, “Ty. Let’s calm down.”
“Honestly…screw that.” Is Tyler’s retort, “Just because he owns this place doesn’t mean he gets to shit on everybody else that may see and think differently from him. He doesn’t really appreciate you, Star. Not enough to let you go.”
“What’re you saying, you asshole?”
“I think you know what I’m saying, you’re just choosing not to hear it or deal with it.” Tyler is calm but his voice holds weight to it.
The sound goes right out of Carmy’s ears as Starla and Tyler share words. He didn’t know why Tyler thought he can come in here, after Carmy allowed him to be here and try to talk shit to him? Tyler didn’t know anything. He was just as new to this place as Carmy once was and he didn’t understand why Tyler felt the need to come at him right now? He’s been as patient as he can with Tyler, picking up on his weaknesses easily in the kitchen but kept them to himself.
He was family after all.
They didn’t get the chance to talk much when it came to Tyler’s personal connection to the kitchen or anything really but here he was speaking on Starla. Like Carmy was a crap person for wanting to see Starla reach her potential. He couldn’t fathom that Tyler was trying to tell him about her. Carmy’s been around Starla much longer than Tyler was and he didn’t miss how he was all puppy dog eyes whenever she was around.
He couldn’t blame him but he also couldn’t stand it.
Carmy usually wasn’t the impulsive one and tended to disassociate from all situations that ended up being too much. He was used to people belittling him and talking at him instead of with him. So he may have been triggered and didn’t realize that he pulled Starla out of the way to get to Tyler.
Until the sound entered his ears again.
“Carmy!”
It was sugar’s voice that brought him back into the scene. He was held up against the wall by Richie, with Sugar trying to get his attention but his eyes continued to search around. Tyler was getting up from the ground, holding his throat while Tina and Sweeps checked on his well-being.
On the floor sat Starla, holding her side, steel table slightly pushed to the side as her eyes swam with tears and Sydney stayed crouched in front of her. Both women turned their gaze to Carmy who was fighting to remember to breathe.
What did he do?
“You tried to rough him up, cousin.” Richie declared as Carmy’s glaciers fought to settle on Richie.
Sugar grips her brother’s face, feeling a bit of déjà vu, “ I love you, Carmen. Please…just calm down for me.”
And as he looked at his sister, he somewhat was.
“You good?” Richie asked, arm still pressed against Carmy’s chest but it was almost like he felt nothing.
Not until he noticed the swinging of the doors, signaling that Tyler was now out of the kitchen and Starla shakily beginning to collect her things.
“Star,” Carmy croaked out, “I’m—
“No!” Starla hissed before slamming her hand on the counter as Carmy almost moved to step towards her, “NO! You don’t get to act like that and expect me to be fine, it’s not right Carmy. This isn’t. I’m tired too and I don’t know how much more you think I can give.”
Carmy feels his stomach turning, like a washing machine off track—much like his own mind, “Don’t leave.”
A watery smile appears on her facial features then and she struggles to suck in some air, making a dull ache appear in Carmy’s chest at the sound.
He was the reason, he didn’t do enough.
“That’s the problem friend,” she gets out before she walks off with her things, taking the light right with her.
Carmy wants to be left alone, hours after that. He silences Claire, Sydney is at a lost for words and that’s another feeling he can’t describe as she leaves with his sister, Tina gives him a squeeze and a look to Richie who just nods his head, before she also leaves with Sweeps accompanying her as the night falls.
Richie knows that this moment was a huge one because he’s had plenty. Carmy needed help and if what he had with Starla is truly broken, he was going to need all the support he can get. Everyone in the bear has never had that on the outside and that’s one of the reasons why everyone’s connection is so strong on the inside. Perhaps that’s what brought them all together.
He doesn’t want to stare at the younger man for long, knowing that carmy would turn his anger on him so he leaves him in the kitchen and takes a seat on a bucket at the front of the restaurant, his desired spot.
That doesn’t stop richie from yelling that he’s here for carmy if he needs him.
He hopes one day he will as he lights up a cigarette and browses Facebook, seeing a picture of Tiffany with Frank on that jackoff’s page.
Richie should block him but can’t bring himself to.
Carmy is back in the freezer, door pinned back with a box full of beef stock as the light inside flickers above his head while he checks on the popsicles. He doesn’t have the energy to find a wooden stick, so he brings the mold back into the kitchen and pushes the frozen treat from the mold.
The popsicle slides against the steel table, leaving a light trail of its liquid behind. With shaky hands, Carmy scoops up the biting cold popsicle and let’s it sit against his skin for a minute before shoving it into his mouth.
It’s the right amount of sweetness and barley tart, as it melts against his tongue while he buries his head into his forearms that rests on the counter.
Blocking out the view of the kitchen and everything in between.
“Let’s go out.”
Starla doesn’t feel like it’s appropriate given the situation but the look in Tyler’s eyes at the front door of her apartment, she doesn’t argue much on it, tossing the ice pack into the nearby sink.
Sure she has words for Tyler too, like sticking his pointed nose in her own battles when it came to her friendship with Carmy but for tonight, she needs something else.
It’s raining hard as Starla sits on the passenger side of Tyler’s beat up pick up truck and he lets up off the gas as they locate a bar. He keeps close, attempting to shield Starla from the rain with his Jean jacket but it’s like she’s on autopilot, walking at ease; almost ahead of him as bits of rain falls over her, trying to knock her down.
Starla and Tyler both share that they aren’t much drinkers (Carmy too) so they limit themselves to two to three shots before Starla’s on the dance floor. Tyler doesn’t want to be a creep but he can’t help but to keep his eyes on the woman who gets lost on the dance floor, dancing the night away and keeping her distance away from anyone that tries to share this personal time with her.
How unlike her.
“She your girlfriend?” A brown skinned woman suddenly to his left asks with bangs.
Tyler stumbles, “ah, no. Just a friend.”
“Her lost.”
“No, it’s mine.” He sternly says to the woman who nods as she rests her hand on his chest in understanding.
Starla moved to the pulsating beat, tequila running fire through her blood with each twist of her body until she feels nothing. And when she opens her eyes to the shimmer diamond lighting along with the numerous of dancing bodies surrounding her…
She should feel alone like she commonly does in a room full of people but the gleam that outlines the frame of her being, tells her otherwise and the standstill in her movements gets her going to the beat again, head held back and arms raised high up to the ceiling with a smile splitting onto her lips.
Fear will no longer be welcomed here.

Carmy and Luca teach the same way
and who may be the reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soooo I have this crazy theory, about what made Luca and Carmy teach the way they do in the present.
Luca and Carmy have a lot of things in common, like their passion and drive (and those tattoos omfg) but I want to bring some attention to how they treat the people who work for them, particularly when these people are making mistakes.
There is this scene in s1x02 in the new york flashback, you see a cook struggling with a sauce and asking Carmy for revision, and he just says something like "Not ready chef, again" he doesn't call her stupid or screams at her, he just gives the instruction even when they are in the heat of service, giving her the opportunity to correct her mistake, while the executive chef (a piece of shit) sends her home immediately, and then proceeds to insult Carmen. From what I have heard, the behavior of the executive chef is pretty common in the industry at this level, and Carmy comes from an abusive household, so who tf did he learn patience from?
Luca also has a "Not right chef, again," with Marcus, while practicing decorating a dessert. He gives him the opportunity to try again, he doesn't insult him or screams either.
You may think this can be their respective personalities. We know Carmy is gentle and generous at heart, he really wants to see people around him be well. But it seems tooo intentional to make both of them say pretty much the same line to somebody they are mentoring.
Both Luca and Carmy give compliments when they like something, and give direct instructions and explanations, even to people who are total newbies, like Marcus (Luca) and Tina (Carmy). Even when the norm in this industry is to make people feel bad so (hopefully) they are too afraid to make mistakes again, preserving a cult to toxicity.
SO HOW THE FUCK CARMY AND LUCA LEARNED TO BE BETTER?
Tumblr media
I think it may be HER.
Again, it seems too intentional. The only thing in common between Carmy and Luca is working for her, and both preserve the motto: "every second counts", in their respective businesses. Like, It is a nice motto, but it may have some other feelings attached to it.
Why the fuck did they cast Olivia Coleman, one of the most wholesome and funny actresses now, that tends to be cast in "mother" roles, for this? They also gave her a sweet name: Chef Terry.
Just imagine the young and hungry Carmy and Luca working for this sweet pie. The only time we see her in "Forks" she is sharing a personal story with a person she has never seen, Richie, and is dedicating time and diligence to a task that is way below her pay grade. Carmy and Luca were both "comis" in her restaurant, also known as line cooks, and their roles were like a soldier to a general, they were not making orders, just regular-ass cooks in this great place. They probably had the opportunity to see Chef Terry give orders and pep talks. Probably both shocked at her personality and approach to her business.
All of her employees have this "service" mentality, instead of an "I am gonna look good and smoke you" mentality, that Carmy mentioned in his monologue. All of them have this motivation to make others happy, and they support one another, they support new ideas and crack jokes in their spare time. Like, all their scenes with Richie (that, sorry, had no talent or reputation for them, they just wanted to respect another fucking human being that wanted to improve) speak volumes.
Carmy and Luca could have learned from Chef Terry, that you can build people up, instead of tearing them apart. I think that would make sense.
I NEED THIS FASHBACK. A CONVERSATION THEY HAD WITH HER, OR HER JUST TALKING TO THE STAFF.
Man, and if it comes in a time when Carmy needs to remember how to be a good leader, from the most "mother" chef he has ever work under? Like man....
btw I really recommend this page if you are confused on the hierarchy of the kitchen:
Anyway, this may be a little of a stretch, but I just think it may be really wholesome, thank you for reading!

(TLDR: I’m depressed that Jaiden is gone and now it feels like a huge chunk of my enjoyment of the server is gone. I completely respect ccJaiden’s decision to leave and am happy that the stream where I found her playing Qsmp led me to find such an amazing fandom and such a talented creator who I want to still watch in the future (seriously though, I would not have found her incredible animations if it wasn’t for that stream). I will probably be taking a hiatus from Qsmp though because now such a huge part of my experience is now gone and I realized how I’ve been prioritizing this over real life which has been damaging my mental health. I don’t know if I will return to the fandom or not (I probably will because I am way too addicted but it depends what life shows) but if I don’t, thank you Qsmp for allowing me to be part of such a great experience :D)
… just heard the news that ccJaiden is leaving the project and that qJaiden is dead…
I hope that ccJaiden feels better, I know how overwhelming Qsmp can get and I respect her choice to leave very much…
But… is it okay if I just feel very depressed now? Jaiden is who got me into QSMP, she has been my main for months and I loved her and her content and was planning to make so many animatic, arts, and fics about her (in fact she was one of my biggest driving motivators for it). She was truly such an amazing character. I loved her lore, I loved her personality, I loved Bubbleduo, I loved the Jaidens, I loved the idea of her and Empanada meeting I just loved her character… she and her streams helped me feel better a lot… it’s the main reason why I’m still in the fandom… but now… with her gone I actually just feel like a huge chunk of my love for it has been ripped out, and I’m just sad. I’m sad that we lost her and everything that could have been in qJaiden’s future…
But hey! If it weren’t for me discovering her through a Qsmp stream that was recommended to me, I probably wouldn’t have become a fan of ccJaiden’s animations and probably wouldn’t even know about such an amazing creator! I’m happy that ccJaiden was able to be apart of this server and that now she will be able to do more stuff that she loves and doesn’t overwhelm her.
But as for me… I might take a hiatus from Qsmp for a bit…
If you look at my posts you probably knew how much I love Jaiden’s character and how she is probably my favorite thing about the server besides Gegg but he’s gone too…
There is a part of me begging me to not leave this fandom. I’m still in love with so many other characters’ stories like Tina, Tubbo, Phil, Bagi, etc.. But there has been so many times that situations and other events also just overwhelmed me and made me detached from real life and now with one of the main strings keeping me attached to the server gone… I don’t know if I want to still stay or not, so I think a hiatus would be good for me to just think things through.
Qsmp is truly such an amazing experience and like Jaiden said, Quackity has done so much and made something so very cool, but I think I just need some time away from it. Get back to real life again you know? I will probably be back, I’m way too addicted to these Minecraft cubitos leave, but in case I don’t… it’s been amazing to meet you guys and thank you for letting me be apart of this experience, it was incredible :)

OKAY MUPPETS IT IS TIIIIME FOR EZZYS OPINION HOUR
i saw the mean girls movie yesterday and i have THOUGHTS. spoilers below the cut but general thoughts up here
1. is it objectively not a super great movie? yes
2. is it my new favorite movie? yes
3. will i defend this movie tooth and nail from people who don’t like it just bc it’s a musical or bc they’re a 2004 purist? YES
4. did this movie make me feel so many conflicting emotions back to back i have now had a tummyache for 24 hours? YESSS
5. will i ever, ever, EVER IN MY LIFE forgive tina fey for the ending? no.
alright babes welcome to below the elementary school gym class parachute
last spoiler warning!!
these aren’t all in order and are most definitely not all the thoughts i had bc i have the memory storage of a flea and once an experience is over it is GONE FROM MY HEAD so this is the list of thoughts i struggled to put together when i got home lmao
overall thoughts:
it felt very gimmicky. the stage production felt gimmicky too but in a fun way, this was gimmicky in a way that kinda gave me a touch of the ick
it did not feel to me very much like a cohesive movie. it felt like browsing ig or tiktok and just seeing a hodgepodge of scenes stuck together. which is a cool idea but idk how well it worked in practice and i also don’t know if it was intentional.
this is not the word i’m looking for but in terms of personality they absolutely whitewashed all of the characters and i really don’t care for that. the visuals and the casting were so immaculate but in terms of personality they just made them all taste like unsweetened corn flakes.
i’m biased and didn’t care for most of the tweaks they made to the songs individually BUT i think they blended with each other more cohesively than they do in the stage production so that was cool. and i am able to understand why they made them more pop-esque than theatre-y it’s just not my personal vibe
it all felt very emma watson’s beauty and the beast. like. not deserving of much hate but also just not as good. it has its time and place but i still just. the changes they made were too much for me. that being said i am gonna be the #1 viewer whenever it’s released to streaming platforms was not kidding when i said this is a new favorite movie
the whole like. tiktok and iphone camera thing was an interesting??? idea. i really liked it for cautionary tale but the rest. i think it was a better idea than the way they executed it.
i miss do this thing!! i wish they had done like a mashup with it and the stupid with love reprise but i wasn’t mad at the reprise so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
fourth wall break was real cringe!!
thoughts abt cady:
angourie is so cute!!!!!!! she has the perfect look for cady. her costumes were kinda yikes but physically she’s mwah chefs kiss perfection
cady is so viscerally autistic in this version and it is DELIGHTFUL
but again i feel like they took so much from her. in the show she’s this overexcited little bubbly (autistic again but still) thing and she’s naive and then it’s revealed she’s conniving and manipulative and has this serious dark streak in her. in the movie it felt like she was just. awkward and then straight to conniving and manipulative. it was interesting but i miss my little jumping bean i wish they had given her some more spice
this movie has turned me into a cadina shipper of THE HIGHEST ORDER i’m already writing a fic for them and i call diiiiibs nobody else do it i write slow /j
i honestly really liked what ifs. i didn’t enjoy it as much as it roars but i think for the screen and for angourie’s voice it was a better fit. and i think it blended better with the new versions of the songs than it roars would have. not mad at it and the staging of it was really cool
cady being the one with a single parent is so interesting to me!! idk why they did that but i think it’s interesting. makes me wonder what happened to her dad but also go mom!!! women in stem!!!
her relationship with the art freaks was so???? weird??? it seemed like damian was the only one who really wanted all of them to be friends. i love this version of janis and damian together but when they were with cady it was all just so BLAND. it didn’t really feel like she and janis were friends at all which is what’s supposed to make the betrayal sting so much
whatever they were aiming for with someone gets hurt they missed hard bc holy cadina batman that shits gay dude BUT THE STAGING WAS SO COOL with everyone like frozen and then they all kick back in all crazy with the music it was great
janis thoughts:
THEY FUCKING RUINED HEEEEEEEER
AULI’I WAS SO PERFECT SHE WAS SO CUTE AND HER OUTFITS ARE SO COOL BUT THEY JUST TOOK AWAY ALL OF HER PERSONALITY
janis is supposed to be spunky and angry and hurt and vengeful and quirky and out there and firey and she’s meant to HAVE GRIT GOTDANGIT but again she just felt so whitewashed. like here’s a vaguely leftist lesbian in ripped jeans and cool eyeshadow that’s janis right?? LIKE NO IT IS NOT
i’d rather be me, while it had a little less vocal oomph behind it than the stage show, was as transcendent as i hoped for and i got chills multiple times. also the comedic timing of the bus was immaculate and the sound it made made me cackle
i can’t tell how i feel about the new middle school incident. i think it takes so much of the pain out of it for janis which is meant to be her main motivator. she was not supposed to be KICKED OUT she was PULLED OUT but i do kind of like that they clearly made it where regina kissed a girl and liked it and freaked out and that was the catalyst for everything
i do not ship this version of cadnis and that to me is unforgivable. they have sooo little chemistry as friends let alone lovers i just can’t stand it. janis doesn’t ever even seem like she wants cady around. it seems so much like they took away what makes janis janis just to turn her into another catalyst for regina and cady’s stories
apex predator was fun!! i honestly like it being janis and damian singing it better than janis and cady i think it works better as a warning and stuff! and also the band in the tree made me laugh so hard. i’m glad cady had them as her tour guides but again that’s all it felt like they were to each other and i miss them being a little posse
REVENGE PARTYYYYYYUH. i thought the staging was really fucking weird?? like all the pastels and shit didn’t really fit i would’ve much preferred it to start like that and then have blood dripping down the walls or something when they’re talking ABOUT PEOPLES HEADS ON SPIKES. but musically it was my favorite of everything!! i’m so happy they put the original verse back i almost screamed out loud in the theater when i heard it!!!!!
i never thought i would say this but i wish they had not canonically made her a lesbian. i will never forgive tina fey for having her end up with that random girl. no shade to the girl, she’s gorgeous and i’m glad we got some on screen, good, healthy queer rep. but in my eyes that is absolutely just a cop out because they know people wanted her to end up with cady or regina. they’re spitting on us and saying “here have your fucking lesbian and enjoy it this is what you get” and expect us to be happy with it. i get so angry every time i think about it and it honestly kind of ruined the whole thing for me. i would rather she have ended up with kevin g again. or like. honestly damian romantically would’ve made more sense in a twisted fucked up way. i just absolutely hate how they handled that.
damian thoughts:
HE! WAS! PERFECT! i am a grey henson stan first and a human being second but by golly he might be my new favorite. comedic timing on point and the fact we barely get to hear him sing is a FELONY. he was delightful and i love him also we love black queer rep!!! fuck yeah!!!! his bit with the fan before id rather be me. sent me into the dang stratosphere i love him so much
ALSO HIS DATE AT RHE END WE LOVE THESTRE BOYYYYY!!! ugh so cute i love
regina thoughts:
HOW DID THEY MAKE HER SUCH A COWARD???? HOW DO YOU TAKE A CHARACTER WITH SO MUCH POWER AND FUCK HER UP THIS BAD???
again everything that’s a core tenet of her personality was removed. i wasn’t afraid of her which is a CRIME bc renee on broadway’s regina was TERRIFYING. she just felt like one of those girls that every hs has like 7 of. they’re a dime a dozen, they’re rich and hot shit and they know it but you don’t care what they do because you know they’ll be divorced and broke and probably fat at your 10 year reunion. it’s giving peaked in high school and not queen bee which is really sad honestly
it made cady seem so much more evil tho?? like regina seemed. hurt. and cady was still so gung ho about taking her down. and it made janis seem much more manipulative too. i don’t care for either of those things
her costumes were so weird??? half that shit regina would not touch with a ten foot pole but it’s renee and she would and she’s hot so i do not care. also this isn’t a criticism but her halloween costume was giving gargoyle more than angel lol
plastics thoughts:
gretchen again felt really reductive. she was all anxiety. not that gretchen isn’t that onstage but it just felt like that was her entire personality. but bebe was adorable and i loved what’s wrong with me she did a great job
avantika was DELIGHTFUL. i loved her so much more than i was expecting to she was the only one where i never had a moment like “i am watching people acting in a movie they are repeating written lines” it felt much more like fluid with her. 10/10 beautifully done to her
aaron thoughts:
HOW DID THEY MAKE HIM MORE BORING????? MY GOD
he was already the most redundant character in the whole goddamn thing and they somehow made him even more useless. he could’ve been removed from the movie entirely and it would’ve changed NOTHING. he is white bread if he was a spice he’d be flour. didn’t think it was possible to make him more that but by golly they did it
HOW DID HE AND CADY END UP TOGETHER HE HAS THE CHEMISTRY OF A BRICK WALL. she has so much more romantic fire and chemistry with regina this is some of the most comphet shit i’ve ever seen. it’s giving wicked levels of comphet like gooooddamn.
misc. thoughts:
THAT LINDSAY LOHAN CAMEO HAD ME OUTBOF MY SEAT I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING BUT IT WAS AMAZING also that “i don’t know your life” was mwah
MS NORBURY SND MR DUVALLLL WERE SO CUUUUUTE i squealed ngl i love them
overall like 7/10 good movie i’m angry about a whole bunch but this is also amazing i’m so glad we got this new content and i am definitely hyperfixating on it now. so not that different from my stage show opinions lol

I originally posted this in a reblog to @melonatures, but I'ma post it here.
Since you posted this, I haven't been able to forget it. I love it, but it took a little bit to figure out why these two gifs are particularly great.
I love your gifset. Let me explain all the ways:
"No, no, no. Fak's not my best friend."
I love how Carmy's face is turned away from the camera for a moment. And he hesitates and looks towards his front door where Syd just left. But then he agrees that Neil is his best friend. Which is totally fine! But I wonder if he was pressed by say, Nat or Richie he'd say the same thing. Fak is best friends to everyone, but is he Carmy's? I dare say Carmy's best friend is Syd, considering we're shown in the show how they are quietly and steadily laying the groundwork for a long, strong and substantial partnership. A partnership that is also a relationship.
We know that Carmy is working with Syd to reach her goal of a Michelin star, stars he thinks are bullshit. This is her goal but he's more than happy to help her reach it, to the point that he's willing to give her hands-on training on how to perfect a dish. Perfection requires fine tuning and precise decisions. Syd is an amazing chef early in her career, and has the makings of a wunderkind on the food scene if she can harness her natural abilities and training. I think Carmy sees that in her and admires it. I think he's attracted to her love of food and by spending time with her on the menu and just hanging out, it's reminding him that, even if he became a chef to spite Mikey, he actually loves it, he just didn't want to do it alone.
In working together to make the menu for The Bear, which will also help Syd get the star she covets, they've gotten close (more close than sitting behind the shop and commiserating), even if it's how they each come to their ideas about menus. In Honeydew, Luca tells Marcus that he experiences life and that's a part of what makes him a better chef. Sydney already does this. We see in Sundae how Syd gets inspiration for dishes, as well as her getting ideas in dreams (shortrib and risotto). Carmy is by the book, but I think he likes the way Syd thinks. That man would have never put chips on Nat's omelette! But I think Syd craves his wealth of knowledge and experience and ability to edit himself. We see in an episode where she realizes she's doing too much to a dish with Tina. Carmy helps her by hearing the ingredients and giving advice; I love Tina and everybody else, but only Carmy can provide that for her. They really do compliment each other, and learn about each other through their cooking.
"I fe- sorry, I feel like I should have known that, or, or- something--"
Makes sense that Carmy was mistaken! I think he's gotten to know aspects of Syd over a short period of time and in this scene he's maybe noticing that Syd holds things close to her chest. Omission plays a big role in her psyche. He can't just assume that she's okay or that she's an open book, because she's not.
Like mentioned above, I think Carmy is learning a lot about Syd through their menu creating. He's listening to her stories and anectdotes, laughing at her humor and learning about what she values through the food she creates. They have such symmetry through food, he assumed (incorrectly) that he knew more about her than he did. Because Syd is bringing back his love of food and the two of them really do communicate their desires through food. Syd loves taking care of people. But so does Carmy! They both don't want to use tweezers on food they don't care about. They want to use tweezers to show how much they love people lol
I love his stuttering in this gif because this man lost the plot and thought he could substitute communicating through food with actual communication. Example: Bro really was confused when Syd wasn't happy about the wall being torn down. By his logic, he tore the wall down for her, like he's working on the menu for her, so what's the big deal? (Someone save this man.) He's very action oriented, so it flew right by him that making a menu with Claire for Syd wasn't it, because he thought doing this action was what she wanted--like he said in that particular scene. But Syd wants communication and hands-on training (😏😏😏), because they're doing this together and if he just wants to put a menu together without her, she can just go somewhere else and make bullshit no-love tweezer dishes. They're supposed to be doing this for the love of food, not to just make money.
And even though they talk to each other via food, it doesn't make up for the other way they can and should communicate: straight up talking.
But The Table ™️ scene shows, in my opinion, that he's learning that. "Say more, please."
Anyway! I love this gifset melonatures. Sorry if this broke any Tumblr edicate. I loved your gifset. Thanks for making it! ❤️

Also, also, Jimmy Jr
Woohoo!! The only boy ever, the dancing queen himself, Jimmy Jr. I'm lowkey sweating a bit because I want to do your favorite boy justice.
First impression: I was very normal about Jimmy Jr. at first (please don't come for me--) I just didn't have a very strong opinion about him. I thought he was funny, and a decent love interest for Tina, but I didn't think much of him. I did think the whole Romeo & Juliet thing he had going on with Tina was pretty great, but other than that, I was pretty normal about him.
Impression now: I hope you know you've made me appreciate him so much more, and now I find myself randomly thinking about him. I think he's an interesting character to analyze, especially when it comes to his daddy issues with Jimmy Pesto Sr., And analyzing how he expresses himself through dance is really fun. He's quite a relatable character. You've given me brainrot, DT, I hope you're happy, pffffffft.
Favorite moment: One of my absolute favorite quotes in the entire show actually is "DON'T TELL ME NOT TO DANCE, DAD!! 😤" I kid you not, it makes me wheeze every time. And the moment when he takes Tina out on a date to Fro-Yo Mama in What A (April Fool) Believes is so sweet (awesome frozen yogurt shop name, by the way).
Idea for a story: Ooooooh, maybe a story that delves deep into his daddy issues with Jimmy Pesto Sr. would be great. Or one that delves deep into his relationship with his mom, because we haven't seen her yet. Though, I would also love to see something centered around his relationship with Andy and Ollie. We need more Pesto Brothers lore!!
Unpopular opinion: Oh my god, what are some people's problems with Jimmy Jr.?? Why can't we all just get along and appreciate his weird, wonderful dancing?? I swear, every time he appears, it stirs up some sort of controversy within the community, and frankly, I'm so tired of it. He's a great character, and I will not hear otherwise. He's thirteen and doesn't treat her that much badly than Zeke. I said it!!
Favorite relationship: I love his relationship with Zeke, it's hilarious. I still keep thinking about when he wanted to catch a chicken nugget in his mouth in the movie and Zeke was helping him. That was great. However, I do love analyzing his relationship with Tina. The two of them are so fun and chaotic together. I will say, @babsvibes said it best, but one of my favorite aspects about their relationship, whether romantic or platonic, is that Jimmy Jr. loves it when Tina is mean, and she can get mean. Their stupid competition on who can run the fastest during The Gene Mile?? I love it. And it goes to show that Tina can be just as mean to J Ju as he can be to her. It's mutual 😌
Favorite headcanon: Jimmy Jr. is a redhead and I will not hear otherwise. DT, ever since you began drawing him with red hair, I've been so obsessed. Now every time I've drawn him (which honestly hasn't been enough, I want to draw him again) I always make him a redhead. It just works so well!! I like to think him and Andy and Ollie all got their hair from their mom. I'm really glad that he didn't inherit Jimmy Pesto Sr.'s butt chin--

Can I ask a bit about your Mrs Emily and Mrs Afton? Are they friends and what happens with them in general
I'm assuming you're talking about William's wife Clarice she's Evan and Elizabeth's mother. Michael has a different mother named Tina and trust me she's important.
I'll start with Mrs. Emily who I've named Emily (because I thought it was funny (Very silly sense of humor)) This is going to be very long
Emily was born to a mormon family in hurricane Utah. The plan was for when Emily turned 20 to take over the diner owned by her parents but when at 19 she met The crystal loving palm reading Tina the plans changed... Emily hopped in Tina's old camper van, to her parents complete and utter dismay. It was the late 60s early 70s the 2 of them were very free love and peace types. but Emily still retained mormon sensibilities And never took it as far as Tina who seemed to come back home with a new man every single night, But she did love the idea of being free and choosing what she'd do with her life she had so many ideas of where she wanted to go. Her biggest dream was to 1 day the an actress with Tina
Unlucky for both of them Tina got invited to a local college party and Emily tagged along. They're Emily met Henry and they immediately hit it off scheduling a date for next week. Tina also met William and made the grave mistake of going home with him.
Emily and Tina kind of drifted apart after that since Emily was so smitten with Henry. She loved listening to him ramble on about robots and his plans for the diner. Emily also grew to like William the man was kind and gentlemanly. So Emily ditch her dreams of being an actress to help Henry's dream of opening the family diner, ditching Tina in the process.
Only about 4 months into knowing each other Henry proposed. Emily said yes. All of those infinite possibilities that she had felt when traveling with Tina seemed to all lead to Henry, he was going to be the most wonderful experience of her life she just knew it!
Their wedding was quick and small and that night they shared a bed. and a couple months later they had 2 beautiful twins. (Tina also had a child that she had named Michael and promptly dumped on William before riding away on another man's motorcycle)
For a long time everything was great Emily was able to get the diner from her parents by asking very politely and promising that she'd never ever wear the flower crown again. As the business grew. So did Charlie and Sammy her children, The 2 of them were wonderful Emily loved being a mother and loved helping out at the restaurant (she was the cook!) Yes a part of her wish she was still on the road with Tina experiencing the world but small town hurricane with her loving husband seemed fine right? But she didn't always like how much time Henry would spend with William and on his machines. but it wasn't a big deal since he had given her 2 beautiful children
Then Charlie died... It broke Emily's heart. She sobbed for days refusing to even come out of her room for the funeral. Her little girl was gone... She blamed Henry for it, it was his machine found wrapped around her stained with her blood. If he hadn't been galvanting around with that stupid British man or working on one of his stupid robots maybe he could have saved her. Emily felt like garbage why had she settled down with this man who had given her 2 wonderful children just to take one away through carelessness.
In 1982 Henry's depression and general uselessness got too much for Emily so she took Sammy and got a divorce. After that she left hurricane with Sammy. Emily felt like she had wasted her life in that stupid diner stupid kitchen. Basically Emily was not in a good mental state to take care of anyone let alone herself
She did eventually start going to therapy in 1984. Where she met a woman named Joyce, Joyce brought the light back into Emily's life she started taking better care of Sammy and the house and be a more productive. Joyce made her feel like there was something after Henry and Charlie. Like she still had life left to live
She does eventually "remarry" in 1988 To a Joyce. Sammy hated this but tolerated Joyce the best he could. Emily and Joyce remained happily together for basically the rest of their lives. Not going back to hurricane once. The few times they would talk over the phone usually about Sammy it would be bad. Henry had completely fallen apart and Emily knew that It wasn't her responsibility to put him back together. She still loved him just as much as she loved Joyce and a part of Emily wished she could be with Henry but he was too far gone at that point...
She died happily in 2023 from old age having lived a good life with Joyce.
Now I guess it's time for Mrs. Afton or Clarice
Clarice was originally born in Brazil but because her father was quite wealthy she was moved to the United States when her health issue started appearing. Ever since she was little Clarice has almost always had some kind of sickness.
She spent most of her childhood in and out of the hospital but started getting better the older she got. She also took up ballet and it turned out she was incredibly good at it, Though it was hard to get work at first being a Non-american but soon her talent would speak for itself. She do ballet tours and dance in Plays and shows. but her sickness came back with a force at around 27
Clarice was hospitalized and put in the room next to William who was recovering from his Spring lock failure in one of this Spring lock suit prototypes. Clarice and William would spend hours talking since there was nothing else to do and quickly fell in love. (This would be around 1972).
Once William was mostly healed and Clarice felt better the 2 started going on dates. Really the only problem with William was his son Michael. He was a constant reminder that William had loved other women Despite how much he told her that she was his favorite and the only one he really loved that was impossible to believe with Michael around. So most of the time she just pretended he didn't exist
Not even a year later Clarice had their first child Elizabeth. And then the next year their second Evan. Clarice loved her children with all of her heart officially giving up dancing and becoming a good mom, to everyone but Michael who she still tried to ignore. Which caused him to lash out since no one seemed to care about him..
It only took a little bit on Williams insistence for Clarice to agree to marry him. Their wedding was large and beautiful.
Despite her attempts to be a good mother Clarice would often cave to Williams demands even if they would inconvenience or scare The kids. She just loved him so much how could she say no? It went like that for a while with being the perfect mother in the perfect family Until charlie's death when it started to fall apart slightly...
After charlie's death was when Michael began to bully Evan more and Evan started to show the first signs of mental illness (He got his dad's crazy) Clarious didn't know what to do but William just said to let the boys be boys.
And then the bite of 83 happened... Clarice was a wreck she could barely get out of bed. All of the sickness from her youth came back even worse than last time brought on by the stress (Definitely just stress) After a year of battling the illness she was close to death in 1984.
On the day that she was supposed to die according to the doctors William went into her room and carried her down to the basement where the half-built ballora sat. She was too weak to fight against the ax that came down on her and chopped her up. William was hoping she would possess ballora but she didn't.
Clarissa's spirit or more her agony stayed, It followed William around. She still loves him after everything staying with him even after he met his final fate
This was really long but thank you for listening! By the way they weren't really friends but they did interact with each other a bit!

Bob's Burgers: Fraud of the Dead: Zombie-docu-pocalypse (14x09)
Okay... this had to have been an episode planned for closer to the end of October, right? So weird how the episodes have been scheduled!
Cons:
Nothing much to complain about, this was great spooky ridiculous fun! The one thing that was a little odd was that the conceit of this scenario is that Gene and Tina don't know Louise, that they are just a documentary crew, and then there were times later in the episode where they continued to reference that they don't know each other. Like, at the end, Tina calls Bob and Linda "your parents" when talking to Louise, as if she's still being the documentary crew and not herself. That feels like a bit of a muddled premise to me, I would have loved to do a bit more with it.
Pros:
On the other hand, maybe I should eat my words and say that the muddled premise ultimately added to the comedy: I love how high-concept Louise's idea for a movie was, that it starts off as a documentary and then becomes about a zombie apocalypse, so the artifice is that it's a project that gets interrupted by something and that becomes the focus. The end scene with the family reacting was a great capstone, because suddenly when you realize that Louise actually wrote and produced this whole thing, the scope and talent on display is kind of crazy. She got her whole family and so many other people involved, and did it all with nothing other than a couple of cameras being held by her siblings, who also had acting roles in the story.
There are certain things that become more funny when you realize that this whole thing is in fact scripted, like Bob being really reluctant to disassemble the restaurant, but then caving to it because... "this is a zombie apocalypse..." or Linda telling the kids when they go upstairs on their own to keep filming the movie while they hold off the zombies downstairs, "don't go in my room".
I also loved the dedication of Andy, Ollie, Jimmy Jr., Rudy, Mort, and Teddy in their performances, it was so fun to see them all go full-tilt and support Louise in her creative endeavor. There's something honestly heartwarming about this scenario, because it's so ridiculous but we get to see how much of a community these people have built; they'll all show up for each other to help with creativity and fun.
A few stand-out jokes for me:
Rudy saying "it's okay" and "I don't want to be remembered as a complainer" as he's being eaten by zombies was so funny and so in character. It made me wonder if Louise had written that line for him because she knows Rudy so well, or if that was improv on his part.
Same with Tina talking about editing techniques and her "vision" for the project as she realizes she's probably about to be eaten. Is that Tina's artistic integrity, or Louise's writing for how Tina's documentary film crew character would speak? I love the ambiguity of that.
The song was another comedy highlight for me; the meta jokes where Tina asks Louise why she's singing in this documentary, and then the song getting cut off... the fact that this was a joke that Louise wrote into her movie in-universe, as part of her character arc regarding learning how to be an archer... it's all so funny and cute.
I love Louise, so no surprise an episode like this, where she gets to be her zany, creative self, and also go through a bit of a journey of self-discovery, really works for me!

zeke and jimmy jr are so fucking stupid. immediately a 10/10 episode just for tankbottoms (tank tops for your bottom™️)
THEYRE SO FUCKING STUPID THERES TEARS IN MY EYES..... if anybody ever hurts these boys ever in their lives i dont know what im going to do. probably cry about it
BABYYY ZEKE HES SO ADORABLE 😭😭💕 love how squished his face is. he's Three apples tall snd very very small
Hey guys :D love how she's dropped the "hey jimmy jr!!! ZEKE." thing and started being normal about greeting them. sorry we're not even a minute into the episode i just love these kids so much they're sooo sweet and so stupid. accurate middle schooler representation
jimmy jr and tina talking :') they're buddies. love that he's already explained this tankbottoms idea to tina and she Does Not Like It
HEY GENE BROWN EYES MENTION!!! always love to have rhat confirmed
oh that jimmy pesto impression is UNCANNY. aww why are they fighting they were sorta kinda becoming friends. not really but in my heart they were after the christmas episode and them racing cars together
"aahh im bored' oh so he's literally just gay? is that what this is?
JIMMY PESTO SAYING ITS BEEN SLOW AT HIS PLACE LATELY LMAO i wonder why that could be!! surely no real world events coincided with that happening!!!!
jimmy pesto is so stupid i missed him so much. i missed ur stupid stupid handsome face SO MUCH u idiot. kisses him
YOU GET ONE PACK OF RATS COVERED IN ROACHES 😭
love how he's Literally just trying to be friends with bob and bob is like. can you leave? could you please leave?? there's something going on here not even gay people have a word for. this is a brand new type of interaction
"our rats and roaches dont get along" "aah well you're lucky"
"right that was ALMOST a normal conversation but you're you soo you said that" *fart noise* "THATS YOU" why is jimmy literally the equivalent of a boy teasing a girl he has a crush on on the playground bcuz he likes her and doesnt know how to show it. what is their PROBLEM
aww louise reading the burobu magazine 🥺🥺💕 sorry this is relevant to a fanfic im working on. also love these new views of the playground thats also great to have (also for the same fanfic) (there's a lot going on in this fanfic)
jimmy jr is so fucking stupid and literally my baby boy. ACTUAL love of my life. he's so dumb <3
"teatherball? oh my god. another TB" there's literally zero braincells in that boys head this is already one of my favorite jimmy jr episodes. also zeke getting jealous that tina is spending time around a boy who hates zeke?? kinda cute. he liiiikes her :) i think he's also just terrified of will but i think he's also a little jealous maybe. zeke contains multitudes
"I just, uh, don't want to have fun... like that. With a bunch of balls in my mouth."
"Fine. Some people are just more open to new ideas."
presenting this conversation with no context. AND jimmy pesto being gay in the background bcuz of course he would be
okay well im already assuming this b plot is gonna go in the direction of jimmy pesto copying bob bcuz business has been slow for him and he thinks bob is generally a better cook so if he copies him maybe he'll get more business too. which is ADORABLE and reminds me so much of the christmas episode where jimmy pesto recommended bob's food bcuz it was so good. also if jimmy thinks that bob is copying his business FJDMDJFKDKDSJ reminds me of a past episode i cant remember the name of but like better.... bcuz they're gay and stupid
gene is a sweet boy <3 sweet song and moment. love that him and louise are just always hanging out together
ohh jimmy jr he's so sweet 😭 he loves zeke so much its adorable. i know there's nothing anybody could do or say to make him stop loving zeke or wanting to be his friend and its actually really cute. he's been great in this episode
"My sweet best friend. My sweet, sweet Zeke..."
love jimmy jr being just as heartbroken over somebody being mean to zeke as i am FJDMDJDKSKS he's literally DEVASTATED by this news. who would bully zeke he's literally a baby? just a baby boy??
"I don't like bullies. And I especially don't like them at our school. And in our sister's grade. I mean, what if he makes Tina pee and embarasses her? She's already fighting an uphill battle."
louise is both very sweet and protective and also VERY funny lmao SHES ALREADY FIGHTING AN UPHILL BATTLE
love jimmy jr louise and gene's dynamic in this episode. they care so much about their babies (zeke and tina) its cuuute
"i feel bad for zeke too but i just dont think aggression is the answer" coming from the kid who got his ass beat by a nine year old. on MULTIPLE occasions
love mort ordering the burger of the day like he has a gun pointed at his head FJDMDKDKSKSS also mort and teddy getting along!! yay!!!! big win for the tedmort shippers in the fandom
"Zeke... I just want you to know that I'm here for you and I care about you." when did jimmy jr get all emotionally mature??
WOLLY BULLY
"I get why you wouldn't want to tell me, because I'm one of the cool kids..." gonna need a citation for that one jimmy jr
if there's one thing louise is gonna do its ignore EVERYBODY telling her not to do something for revenge and do it anyway. like girl u gotta know when to let something go i know you're protective but FJDMSKSDKDK
"whats going on down there" dont even worry about it rudy
i love school episodes they're so silly. still a 50/50 chance zeke WAS the bully vs being bullied and this is a misunderstanding but either way this is very fun and i love seeing all the kids hanging out at recess and lunch etc
tina has had like three lines total in this episode where IS that girl
"i was the bully" yeah i figured since this episode still has half the runtime left and no other possible way this conflict could go LMAO but on that note its kinda sweet that he's made friends and a life for himself at wagstaff and he's not mean to kids anymore. he's a good kid in his heart & he always was
NOT THE APPLE JUICE 😭😭💔
not tina crushing on will in the background.... its not ur episode girl get outta here
"i can see that" rudy is there something you'd like to share with the class 🤨🏳️‍🌈
"SORRY me spraying juice on you wasn't bullying! That was just an accident." POOR GENE he's so worried about upsetting someone or hurting their feelings
BABY ZEKE COMPILATION TJIS IS A BIG MOMENT FOR ME gonna need to screenshot this after bcuz he's so small. maybe the smallest boy in the whole entire world
"i was always the new kid and it wasn't easy making friends" 😭😭💕 AND NOW HE HAS TINA AND JIMMY JR GENE LOUISE RUDY and even tammy and jocelyn (kinda sorta) and he doesnt need to be nervous anymore..... he has a home and he's never going to leave. sorry brb im crying i love zeke and their littlr friend group so much
BETWEEN THAT AND MY IMPULSE CONTROL ISSUES I JUST STARTED WRESTLING KIDS sorry zeke is many things but he is NOT smart thats why him and jimmy jr are two peas in a pod. not a braincell between them
HE JUST HAD A LOT OF NERVOUS ENERGYYYY okay adhd zeke is literally canon now. to me. like i dont care what the episode says thats true now in my heart they basically said it
and then i kept trying to make them laugh :( zeke noo he's such a sweetheart and a good kid. he never had anybody who LIKED him before who really saw him for who he was until jimmy jr and their friend group. sobbing. I HAD A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND A NICKNAME IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I FELT LIKE I REALLY BELONGED....... CRYING SOBBING THROWING UP ETC
ive been told i have the perfect neck for headlocks. okay thank you rudy
jimmy jr is soo emotionally mature and thoughtful in this episode. TINA WHAT ON EARTH R U DOING IN THIS EPISODE she didnt even react to zeke's story bro. its so over
like a little italian squirrel :)
"Linda's right, Bob. And my therapist would say that you should focus on your own happiness and not compare it to other people's."
"Your therapist is an IDIOT!"
"You take that back, Bob! Do not speak of Doctor Marjorie that way. That woman has put up with SO MUCH in her life! The balls haven't always rolled her way!"
😭😭??? this was so funny lmao. also love how casually teddy mentions his therapist (throughout the entire show!! she was mentioned in his first appearance) and how normalized it is. like yeah he has a therapist and he has mental health issues & trauma and its just something he casually mentions
also mort always talks about ordering the soup at bobs burgers but we've NEVER seen soup on the menu or anybody else eating soup there what is up with that?? does bob make the soup especially for mort??? what is going on there. so many unanswered questions
"Look I don't know what THIS is..." *gestures vaugely to bob and jimmy pesto* Thats literally exactly how i feel whenever i watch an episode with them now. i dont know what the hell is going on between them and quite frannkly thats none of my business!!!
"im not SHRIEKING!!!!" he shrieked
"Zeke! Listen. We've all done things we're not proud of. I used to tell Andy and Ollie that there was actually only one of them. It messed with them for weeks. The point is... we recognize our mistakes and we learn from them. It's how we grow."
ONE we got a big brother jimmy jr mention HELL YEAH‼️‼️ love him tormenting andy and ollie he's such a terrible big brother (affectionate) and TWO in my head this is kinda jimmy jr apologizing for how he's fucked over tina in the past?? maybe im literally delusional about them but him admitting he's done things he isnt proud of and that he's hurt people before. cmon. thats gotta be about tina right. just lie to me at this point
JIMMY JUNIOR LMAOO he's literally so silly in this episode im obsessed with him
WHAT THE HELL WILL??
did zeke make fun of will for being a dancer lmfao thats why he wanted jimmy junior to leave right. he doesnt want jj to hate him
HE MADE FUN OF MY LISP 😭😭 no thats literally actually worse bcuz jimmy junior's lisp is soo. god. but zeke loves jimmy jr so much i know he would never do that to him. he literally LOVES that boy so goddamn much
YOUR LIPS FJDMDDJDKDKDD THEY LOOK FINR TO ME. somebody needs to sedate me im gonna become a jimmy jr fan account after this episode
JIMMY JR NOOOOOOOO ZEKE LOVES U HES UR BEST FRIEND. if they stop being friends after this episode im killing myself. like it would be so over for me. couldnt live after that theyre besties. theyre BESTIES
imagining if this was jimmy jr instead of will and actually literally crying real tears over it
I DONT EVEN THINK I WANT TO DO TANKBOTTOMS WITH YOU ANYMORE. thats literally worse than divorce whats even the point
"I mean, a lot of people don't know this but I have a speech impediment."
"Huh."
"Really?"
"Ooh I never noticed..."
"Yeah. I worked through a lot of it but sometimes it still shows up."
love this dumbass autistic boy. he's my sweetheart angel i would die for him 1000 times over and over
I THOUGHT TINA WAS GONNA ASK ZEKE TO SHOW HIS BUTT SAYING "I mean you could...." i was like ooohkay tina sure. okay
aww bob is so smart. and cool
JIMMY JR HOLDING ZEKES BACKPACK FOR HIM sorry idk why i thought that was so cute. gonna need a screenshot of that
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOVE GENE AND LOUISES EXPRSSSIONS IN THIS SCENE sorry okay im paying attention to their gay little fight too ig
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AWWW HAHA ZEKE IS SUCH AN OLDER BROTHER this scene is so cute. him teasing gene and louise <3
THIS EPISODE WAS SOO ADORABLE OMG i loved jimmy jr in this episode and his friendship with zeke. maybe my favorite episode this season?? its hard to say bcuz all of them have been so enjoyable and good but i love school setting episodes and zeke is such a good character. the subplot was also really good w/ jimmy pesto although i will NOT be letting bob forget what happened between them in the christmas episode and when he brought jimmy pesto his pain meds. he might forget but i will NOT. they were seriously for real gay there

headcanons and musing on ms mama bear herself and carmy's various traumas below the cut. trying not to make my blog look as unwell as it has the past few weeks, however, very much still ill in the head over the shrimp man
me every time carmy mentions his mommy issues:
Tumblr media
let me in!!! let me in u son of a bitch!! tell me about ur mom!!!
anyway. i digress. so the main clues we have in canon about the berzatto's siblings mom are, in vague order of appearance (aka my memory):
sugar telling carm in ep 1 that mom would love to see him after he mentions that no, he hasn't talked to her. it feels like sugar is on good enough terms with their mom while carmy is def not.
richie mentioning that he took care of their mom for months before carmy came after mikey died--carmy's mom is unstable for (gestures vaguely) any number of reasons
"she full psycho?" "she wasn't calm, but the food was great" --their mom had always been some level of unstable, but there's clearly a point at which she becomes unstable to the point that carmy considers it a distinct difference
"i mean, you blame the restaurant. you don't blame mom. you don't blame mikey." why is their mom before mikey?? carmy has such strong negative feelings about her that he puts her before mikey--someone whose fucking pills he just found in a drawer!
"it's bullshit" "sounds like mom" "i'm serious" "i'm serious" ?????? !!!!!! ???????? if nothing else "sounding like mom" is an insult but also ?????
"mom always added raisins!" interesting to me--mikey is the one who is presented as always cooking for the family, even when carm's talking about tina spending christmas at his mom's, it's mikey who was making the food. but sugar has clear and nostalgic memories that involve their mom's cooking--although, notably, it's decidedly in the past tense, even though their mom is still very much alive and present to sugar in canon, and this takes place years before canon
"this is a very special dish in my dysfunctional, nightmare of a household" --carmy doesn't seem to have any bad feelings or memories of mikey until after he starts freezing him out, and considering their dad was out of the picture around the time carmy was born/was very young, one presumes this nightmare and dysfunction has to be related to their mother
the other points that i think are interesting that just sort of relate to carmy's Issues (tm) are
a) the parentification of mikey and sugar berzatto--carmy so clearly leans on them and like went to them for support and guidance, and as always, TheAngelTattoosAreForMikeyAndSugarBreakdown.exe
b) carmy's disassociation when people are fighting/yelling at him if he's not feeling defensive or particularly fighty enough to yell back. the way Chef says such cutting and horrible things to carmy--you're not tough, it's all a show, you're a fraud, you should be dead--and carmy just has to blink and continue working. the way he stares in to the middle distance for like two entire fucking minutes while richie and cicero scream at each other. i mean, if there's one thing this boy can do it's disassociate. the kid can leave the country. he sends himself to the cornfield. goodbye carmen berzatto hello shoving trauma down into ur shoes and hoping there's No Future Consequences for This Action
anyway i've been thinking for weeks about what i think the deal could be between carmy and his mom and while this is truly just a headcanon i'm forming and i also have a habit of never being a correct when i make headcanons, but the idea i'm sort of rolling around with is like clearly their mom was unstable for enough of their childhood for their house to be a "dysfunctional nightmare" but is stable enough now for sugar to have a relationship with her and want carmy to have a relationship with her, too, so my thinking is maybe there is some severe mental illness that wasn't getting treated or cared for while they were kids, but maybe is now that they're adults, chiefly, while carmy isn't there to see it.
i think some kind of variation of bipolar works well here, maybe? it would help explain some of carmy's disassociation skills, if their mom could be verbally abusive when she was manic, and the parentification of sugar and mikey if during depressive episodes there was little functioning. if that's carmy's childhood and that's his impression of his mom, then of course he's not going to want to go home to see her. but if she gets treatment/medication/guidance later in their adulthood while carmy is globetrotting and getting verbally abused by other significant figures in his life, then sugar might have a relationship with her at that point and want carmy to "talk" to her and maybe reach some closure too, if that's what she was able to do. and carmy obviously doesn't believe in that becuase he's carmy in s1 of the bear and his relationship with his mom is probably approx #87 or #89 on Pressing Mental Health Issues to Address.
anyway this is very long and if any one reads it and has thoughts let me know. i just want to get into the head of this shrimp man and excavate his trauma for shrimp dumplings. i want to KNOW. let me IN. CARMEN!!!! let me IN!!!!

A/N: Yeah, I’ve finished Season 3! Thank god for nanowrimo
2nd-4th July 1985
You were freaking out as the elevator plummeted rapidly to the floor. Everyone was screaming and freaking out but you weren’t listening to what they were saying, instead focusing on clinging tightly to the shelf behind you. The elevator suddenly stopped, a box landing on top of Steve as it did so. You took deep breaths as you tried to calm down. You knew it was a bad idea to come here. You should’ve stayed home.
‘Just so you nerds are aware, I’m supposed to be spending the night at Tina’s, and Tina always covers for me. But if I’m not home for Uncle Jack’s party tomorrow and my mom finds out you four are responsible, she’s gonna hunt you down, one by one, and slit your throat.’ You tune back into the conversation to hear Erica say.
‘I don’t care about Tina or Uncle Jack’s party! Your mom’s not gonna be able to find us if we’re dead in a Russian elevator!’ Steve yells back, clearly freaking out.
‘Steve, calm the fuck down!’ You snap back, although you weren’t calm at all.
‘Hey! What if we climb out?’ Dustin said pointing at a hatch in the roof. Dustin and Steve climb out the hatch and you follow after them. You look up at the long path stretching between you and the ceiling and realise you aren’t going to be able to climb, you must be miles below the surface.
‘Can you do anything?’ Steve asked, looking at you.
‘I can give it a try.’ You say, moving to stand at the edge of the elevator. You stretch your hand out, trying to manipulate the air below the elevator to push you up. You’re able to do it, the elevator moving barely an inch even with all your energy. You stumble back, nearly collapsing but Steve is able to catch you. The world goes black for a second but it comes back quickly.
‘Yeah, that’s not going to work.’ You tell Steve as you stand up straight again.
‘Great.’ Steve runs his hand through his hair. You climb back down into the elevator joining Robin and Erica.
‘Quick question, Steve mentioned something about you having powers?’ Robin asked as the three of you hopped down from the ladders.
‘Yeah, Y/N’s got superpowers, it’s cool.’ Dustin said.
‘Bullshit.’ Erica responded. You sighed, holding out your hand and causing a flame to appear.
‘Believe me now?’ You roll your eyes, sitting down on the floor.
‘Okay, well can’t you do something to get us out of here?’ Robin asks, leaning against a shelf.
‘Just tried but it didn’t work.’
‘Earth!’ Dustin suddenly yells.
‘What?’ You say looking at him with confusion.
‘You can use the earth below us to push up the elevator.’
‘And why would that take less energy than using air?’ You cross your arms.
‘I don’t fucking know! Just try.’ You roll your eyes, placing your hands on the ground beneath you trying to feel for any dirt or anything but you can’t.
‘Nope, must be too much between us and the ground I can’t feel anything.’ You shake your head.
‘Can’t you make some appear like you just did that flame?’ Robin asks and you shake your head again.
‘The only thing I can create is fire, I can only manipulate earth, air and water.’ Robin opens her mouth to speak again but you cut her off. ‘I don’t know why it works that way.’
‘You can also-‘ Steve starts but you cut him off.
‘No, I can’t.’ You glare at him, reminding him that he was one of the few people who actually knew the truth about you.
Eventually, everyone finishes trying to figure out how to get out, accepting that you were at least going to be stuck there for the night. Erica and Dustin lay down on the floor, trying to get some sleep while Robin and Steve sat away from you, speaking in hushed whispers. All you could think about was Eddie. He was probably freaking out at the fact you hadn’t returned home yet. You felt terrible that he would be worrying but you couldn’t exactly just jump out of here and go back to him. You knew you should’ve told him the truth about everything but then again if you had he would’ve insisted on coming with you and then he’d be trapped in here too and that was worse than anything you could imagine.
You woke up to the sound of Dustin, talking into his walkie, repeating the same phrases over and over again. You didn’t know when you had fallen asleep but you must have. You stood up as you watch Erica attempt to smash open the green container.
‘Don’t do that.’ You mumble still only half awake. Erica glances over at you and then continues to hit it.
‘Hey, hey! Be careful, careful, careful! We don't even know what that is.’ Robin yells moving towards Erica who stops hitting it.
‘Exactly. It could be useful.’ She shrugs.
‘Useful how?’
‘We can survive down here a long time without food, but if the human body doesn't get water, it will die.’
‘You want to drink that shit.’ You grimace at the idea, it does not look appealing at all.
‘I hate to break it to you, but this is not water.’
‘No, but it's a liquid, and if it comes down to me drinking that shit or dying of thirst, I drink. Robin stops paying attention and instead turns to the door.
‘We’ve got company.’ Robin says and you also hear the noise of someone approaching. You quickly scramble up the hatch, closing it behind the three of you once you make it up. You all wait in silence as two guards move boxes out of the elevator. Once the guards finished Steve quickly hopped down and placed the container under the door keeping it open as the rest of you rushed out. The five of you look down the long corridor and start making your way down, walking slowly.
‘But if they're building something, why here? I mean, Hawkins. Seriously. Of all places. At the very best, we're a toilet stop on your way to Disneyland.’ Robin says as the five of you walk down. You, Steve and Dustin all look at each stopping in your path. You start discussing the possibility that the Russians knew about everything that had gone down in Hawkins previously. What if they knew about you and El? If they did then you were fucked. You’d been tortured by the US government but you couldn’t imagine what would happen if the Soviets found out about you.
‘I’m sorry, is there something you’d like to share with the class?’ Robin asked but before you could respond the walkie started making noise. It was quickly pulled out of Erica’s bag and Robin realised it was the code and that you could use it to get out of the underground bunker you were in.
Eventually, you guys reach an area that’s filled with Russians and you quickly hide. Erica insists that she saw the Comms room and you all quickly sneak over. As you enter the room, you quickly realise there’s a Russian guard in there. Robin starts speaking Russian which confuses the guard and then Steve rushes him knocking him out.
‘Dude! You did it! You won a fight!’ Dustin yells excitedly.
‘Yeah great is there anything to tie him up with?’ You ask looking around the room for some sort of rope or cord.
‘Who gives a fuck about that? He’s out cold?’ Dustin says grabbing the guard’s key card. Dustin and Erica soon start arguing about having to walk back to the elevator, while Robin walks up a set of stairs. Soon, Robin runs back down informing you that there’s something weird going on up there and the five of you make your way back up.
‘Holy fuck.’ You mumble as you look at the machine in front of you that’s trying to reopen the portal to the Upside Down.
You quickly run back down the stairs, trying to explain to Erica and Robin just how bad it is that the portal is being reopened but soon you realise the guard is missing and the alarm starts blaring throughout the building. The five of you make a run for it, Steve pushing guards out of the way to give you more time. You want to help by using your powers but the fear of being experimented on is too strong. You make it into a room where you, Steve and Robin press your bodies against the door keeping it shut, telling Erica and Dustin to run. Just as they make it out the guards burst through the door and the three of you have guns pointed at you before you even have a chance to react.
The three of you are quickly separated and put into cells alone. They tried to get information out of you but you’d been trained not to respond to torture so you didn’t respond. The only thing that made it hard was hearing the screams of Steve and Robin as they were also tortured. Eventually, you were picked up and dragged through to a room where the three of you were tied together and left alone.
‘Steve! Wake up, Steve!’ Robin yelled struggling against her bindings.
‘He’s not dead. I can feel his pulse.’ You mumble back.
‘Why are you so calm anyway?’ Robin questioned and you sighed.
‘Because I was tortured in a government facility for nearly 2 years.’ You say, feeling tears welling in your eyes. You didn’t want to be stuck in a facility again for years of your life.
‘Oh, I didn’t know that. I’m sorry.’ You shrug not wanting to respond. ‘Can you use your powers to get us out of here?’
‘Robin, if the Russians find out I have powers I’ll go back to being a weapon rather than a person so it’ll be our last resort.’
‘Y/N we are well past the stage of last resort! Help! Help!’ Robin yelled. You hesitated for a moment. If it was just you down you would let yourself die before you showed your powers but you couldn’t let Steve and Robin die too. And you couldn’t let Eddie think another person abandoned him.
‘Hey, would you stop yelling?’ Steve mumbled waking up. You breathed a sigh of relief, even though you knew he was alive, him being awake meant he was okay.
‘Are you okay?’ Robin asked, joy in her voice. Steve confirmed he was okay and Robin started talking.
‘Okay, do you see that table over there to your right?’ Steve looked towards you. ‘No, your other right. And do you see those scissors?’
‘Uh-huh.’ Steve confirms. You had your back to the table so you just had to rely on the fact they were right.
‘Yeah, well, I think if we all move at the same, we could get over there, and then maybe I could kick the table and knock them into your lap.’ Robin says, excited about having a plan.
‘Yeah, and we could get out of here.’ The three of you started to move towards the table but just as you got close to it, you fell, you landing on top of the others. You were able to manoeuvre yourself enough so that you weren’t on top of them as Robin started to laugh. The two of them started to have an intimate conversation and you cringe feeling like you were interrupting as you were literally in the middle of them.
The Russian returned, eventually and picked the three of you up, the doctor pulling out a vial of blue liquid. You knew exactly what it was. Sodium Pentothal or truth serum. You’d been injected with it 100s of times in the lab, in order to prepare you for this exact scenario. Your tolerance was probably lower than it was a few years ago but you would still be able to resist it mostly, the others, however, would not.
You felt the needle enter your neck and winced in pain. You started to feel hazy as the drug entered your bloodstream but were more conscious than the others who were giggling and laughing. The Russians re-entered the room you were in and started laying out all sorts of torture devices. You realised that if there was any time to use your powers it was down and you prepared yourself, taking deep breaths and Steve and Robin both rambled on about how the Russians were going to be taken out. Suddenly the alarm started blaring and the Russians left the room, clearly scared that they had actually been invaded. Erica and Dustin quickly rushed in and untied the three of you as you prepared yourself to run.
Once the bindings had been loosened you ran out of the room along with the others. You quickly hoped onto the cart, about to protest Dustin driving it but realised you weren’t in a state to drive, even if you were better than Steve and Robin. You reached the elevator and Dustin used the keycard to get the elevator working. Steve and Robin started pretending to surf on a box cart while Erica and Dustin wondered what is wrong with them.
‘Sodium Pentothal.’ You mumbled.
‘What?’ Dustin said looking at you confused.
‘We were injected with Sodium Pentothal or truth serum. I’ve got a resistance to it but they don’t.’ You say gripping your head as the room spins around you.
‘But you still seem not fully here?’
‘Resistance not immunity.’ You say, using DnD terms to help make it easier to understand.
Eventually, you make it out of the elevator but are chased by Russian guards so Dustin leads you through to the cinema where Back to the Future is playing. He leaves the three of you in one part of the theatre while they go take seats near the front. You sighed and closed your eyes, thinking it was just for a second but when you reopen them, Robin and Steve had vanished.
‘Shit, shit, shit.’ You mumble, getting up and leaving the theatre to look for them. Eventually, you find the two of them in the bathroom sitting on the floor, giggling at something.
‘Hey, Y/N, what’s up?’ Steve yells as if it’s the first time you’d seen him in months.
‘Hey, why did you leave?’ You asked sitting down next to them.
‘We needed water and then we puked. And by the way, Y/N, me and Robin would be a terrible couple because she’s gay.’ Steve says and your eyes widened.
‘Steve you can’t just do that! You have no idea if Robin wanted me to know.’ You chastise him.
‘Wait so you’re okay with it?’ Robin asks and you shrug.
‘Yeah doesn’t bother me.’
‘Y/N is from the future so it’s totally cool with her.’
‘Wait what? How many secrets do you guys have?’
‘Basically, in 2001, I was kidnapped and then I managed to travel back to 1982. I can’t control it so no I can’t change the last few days. If we live, I’ll give you the full version.’ You quickly explained.
Just then Erica and Dustin burst into the bathroom and join the three of you. You wait until the crowd comes out of the cinema and then join in but quickly realise that they are checking IDs and the five of you all run, sliding down the centre of the elevator. As you land you stumble, falling as pain erupts through the wrist you’ve just landed on.
‘Fuck.’ You yell, gripping it with your okay hand, you’re pretty sure it’s broken but you don’t have time to think as you keep running. You all slip to hide behind one of the food counters and you try to stay silent but every tiny movement of your wrist makes you feel like you’re dying.
All of a sudden a car alarm goes off. Steve looks at you wondering if you did it to which you shake your head. You hear a loud bang and you get up seeing the car had been flung. You turn and see all the others standing there and you quickly join up everyone getting caught up on what the other group had been up to. You notice El start to walk away from the group and then suddenly collapse screaming about her leg. The others pull up her trouser leg to reveal a wound which is pulsing and moving.
Jonathan runs and grabs a knife to cut whatever is in her leg out and you look away, feeling like you're going to vomit. You turn back and El’s using her powers to remove whatever it is from her leg which causes the glass behind her to crash just as Joyce, Hopper and some man you don’t recognise arrive. You all get caught up, as you find out about the Mindflayer and tell the others about the Russians.
‘You alright?’ Steve asks, seeing you rubbing your wrist.
‘I think it’s broken.’ You say, flinching in pain as you accidentally move it.
‘You three!’ Hopper yells at you, Steve and Robin and you walk over. Dustin and Hopper explain the plan.
‘Umm, does it not make more sense for me to stay here? Two powered people are better than one.’ You point out.
‘No way. Your wrist is broken.’ Steve points out.
‘He’s right, it’s best you go with them.’ You nod as Hopper hands Steve the keys to the car he’s been driving. You head outside and Steve gets excited seeing the car.
‘Oh, man! Now, this is what I’m talking about.’ Steve said.
‘Todd-father?’ Robin scoffs reading the number plate.
‘Screw Todd, Steve’s her daddy now.’ Steve says and you grimace.
‘Please never call yourself daddy again.’ You fake gag. The five of you all climb into the car and start making your way over to Dustin’s radio.
Once you make it half the way up the hill, you have to walk the rest of the way. You eventually make it to the radio and sit down while Dustin gets it up and running. As you sit at the top of the hill waiting to hear something you glance out at the mall and see a bunch of colours coming from it. You all run back to the radio and Dustin attempts to contact the others but all you here is some sort of screeching on the other end. Steve starts running, heading back towards the car and you and Robin follow closely after, jumping into the back of the car. You speed towards the mall trying to get there as soon as you possibly can.
As you pull into the car park, you see a car speeding towards Nancy and the others and Steve puts his foot down, hitting the car before it can slam into Nancy. You jump into the car and watch as the monster follows behind you. You suddenly hear the walkie spark up and hear the voice of a girl through it. Dustin and who you assume is Suzie suddenly start singing and you can help but laugh listening to the two of them as you all speed away from the mall.
Suddenly the monster switches directions heading back towards the mall and you let out a groan as Jonathan turns the car around, realising you were going to have to head back to the mall. You arrive at the mall following closely behind the monster and make your way to the top level of the mall. The others all grab fireworks and start throwing them at the monster while you raise your good hand and start shooting a steady stream of fire out, hoping to distract the monster enough. You lean against the railing, feeling your energy waning as you continue to shoot fire at the creature. The others soon run out of fireworks as you run out of energy, falling to your knees and collapsing as you feel blood drip from your nose before everything goes black.
When you wake up you're in a hospital bed. Your arm is in a cast and you feel like complete shit as you look around the room. Steve and Robin are sitting there and both perk up as you sit up.
‘The mindflayer?’ You ask and they both nod indicating that it was gone.
‘How long was I out?’
‘A few hours, not that long.’ Steve tells you. Suddenly the door flies open and in bursts Eddie looking more worried than you’ve ever seen him. He immediately makes his way over to you and wraps you tightly in a hug while Robin and Steve mumble something about getting something to eat.
‘God, I was so worried about you and when Steve called me and said you were in the hospital, I’ve never been more terrified.’ Eddie pulls his head away from your shoulder and you realise now his eyes are red and puffy. You feel your heart break as you look at him and realise you’d made him cry.
‘I’m alright.’ You tell him. ‘I’ve just missed you.’ You say as you feel tears welling in your eyes.
‘What even happened? I mean you’ve been missing for days. Steve mentioned something about being stuck in an elevator and a mall fire?’
‘Yeah, we’ve been stuck in an elevator for the past few days, luckily we got out just before the mall was set on fire.’ You lie, not wanting Eddie to know the truth.
‘I’m just glad you’re okay, I love you.’ He said pressing a light kiss to your lips.
‘I love you too. And I’m fine, just a broken wrist and it’s not even my dominant one.’ You say waving your wrist around.
‘Oh, I got you this. I know it’s not one of those giant ones from the fun fair but it’ll have to do.’ He said grabbing the teddy bear that he’d dropped when he came in and handed it to you. It was just a simple brown teddy bear with a heart that said ‘get well soon' but you love it.
‘Thanks, it’s the best thing anyone’s ever got me.’ You say hold it close to your chest.
‘God, you’re not going to spend all your time cuddling that bear instead of me cause it’ll be embarrassing if I’m jealous of a toy.’ He jokes and you laugh back, reaching your hand up to play with his hair.
‘I’m sorry for scaring you.’ You said as you wrapped one of his curls around your finger.
‘It’s not your fault.’ He smiles as he rests his head in your hand.
‘Do you need anything? Seriously anything at all, I’ll be waiting on your hand and foot until your out that cast.’ He smiles at you and you laugh lightly.
‘Well I haven’t eaten in days so can we stop at the diner on the way home, please?’ You look at him with big eyes. You didn’t think the doctors would keep you that much longer now that you were awake and even if they tried you just wanted to go home.
‘Absolutely, anything for you.’ He said placing a kiss on your lips, before resting his forehead against yours and you realised, you were home.

Talk Shop Tuesday: do you have a part (/few episodes) of the Morgan AU you're most looking forward to writing or sharing?
OH BOY DO I
One of them I can’t tell you about because you’ll immediately guess why I’m excited 😅 but I’ll tell you some of the rest (in chronological order
the end of s1!! I have a few twists I can’t wait to share…and the fallout of Eowells’s betrayal is gonna hurt BIG time. Those of you who have read the s2 arc know that it still lingers, but…you’ll get to feel that betrayal full-force :D with an added wrinkle you might not expect (or maybe you will, but I hope you enjoy it regardless!)
Morgan & Jesse becoming friends during s2! I call this their “unofficial roommates” phase—when Jesse runs away from STAR Labs, she decides to run as far away as possible and to someone she sorta knows already, whom Harry would never expect because Morgan and Jesse, at that point in time, don’t like each other! They become friends while they’re living together 💞 it’s a nice way to explore the issues of “you are the best and worst of me, amplified in ways that make me jealous and insecure at the same time” and how they work through it. And it’s marginally safer than Jesse squatting with a stranger in a strange world…especially with Morgan’s powers
2x17, the time travel episode 🥰 the addition of Morgan is gonna make for some very fun tweaks (and s1 Barry being jealous of how Morgan gravitates to s2 Barry…especially because 2x17 is is during 1x11 and Morgan still hasn’t admitted she’s forgiven him yet)
Morgan & Tina’s relationship is so super important…and in s2, it reaches…not a breaking point, but a turning point. Morgan has idolized Tina for so much of her childhood, but Tina wasn’t a perfect (god)mother. She wasn’t ready for it, and at first, she struggled with the balance. Much like Eowells…but Tina made an active effort to change and be better for Morgan, while Eowells didn’t. It’s why Morgan sees Eowells’s flaws more easily, but overlooks Tina (and it’s why she’s a bit too hard on Tina in s2…but they grow past it) 💞
In that vein, I’m so excited to write Morgan’s complicated relationship with her future stepfather, Henry. She likes him, she thinks he’s great, he clearly loves Tina, and she’s not worried that he’ll hurt her, and he’s Barry’s dad…but the idea of him being her stepfather is still a lot for her, considering her baggage around fatherhood. It’ll take some time to work through, even with his endless patience, and I’m so excited to write it!
THE SAVITAR ARC/SEASON listen so much of s3 is a giant question mark, because I’m still trying to figure out how much I want to change from canon…but Savitar? I’ve pretty much decided on his characterization…particularly his relationships with Morgan, Barry, and Iris (especially Morgan). And I can’t wait to write that 🥰
Morgan & Iris! post-s3, and also during the bad future in s5. Both are instances of them grieving Barry, and there are similarities and differences in how both of those unfold…but even when they argue, even when they walk away…there’s so much love there still. Even when one of them doubts it, it doesn’t change that 💞
The Westallen wedding!! I haven’t decided wtf I’m doing about s4’s Crisis, but in any case, Westallen will get their full ceremony (with no proposal at their rehearsal dinner, no sudden double weddings, etc). If their wedding is crashed, it’ll be during the reception, after the ceremony is all said and done. And there’s a brother-sister dance after the main couple’s dance—Iris with Wally, Barry with Morgan 🥰 (they even swap partners in the middle!). Wally even dances with Linda at the wedding 👀
CRISIS OFC this is gonna be the grand finale (possibly with one other mini storyline after it but…nothing about the Mirrorverse or s7-9), and I’m so excited 💞 no details I can share just yet, except that it’ll be a mishmash of what we got in canon and what was presented in 2024’s newspaper. And Thawne will ofc be prominent, as he should’ve been in canon

I wanna know what YOU think about Rudy now!!
First Impression
I enjoyed his character from the start in "Carpe Museum"! As I've mentioned before, he reminds me of myself as a kid- I have asthma and allergies and divorced parents. And I enjoyed his relationship with Louise in that episode- to me it was the first time Louise seemed to really connect with one of her classmates on the show (yes, the Pesto Twins are great, but their relationship with Louise doesn't really seem like a friendship of equals.)
Impression Now
He's my favorite recurring character. While he still has the characteristics from "Carpe Museum" that drew me towards him initially, I think he's developed into so much more since then that. I'm glad that they don't play up the asthma as much as they used to, and I enjoy that they've developed his relationships with characters other than Louise- like Gene, Tina, and Zeke. I think he's one of the most developed non-Belcher characters, and he still funny, likeable, and relatable (to me).
Favorite Moment
There's a lot that I love, but I think I have to go back to his fake allergic reaction in "The Kids Rob A Train"- just the fact that he is able to successfully prank Louise says a lot about him and their relationship and its just a genuinely funny moment.
Idea for a Story
I'm hoping that I will write this for See More Seymour's Week, but I would love a story about Mort teaching Rudy to meditate. Rudy's clearly got some stress and anxiety in his life- more than most of the kids on the show- and I think meditation is a great way to address that. It's something that I didn't get into until I was much older, and I really wish I had known about it when I was a kid/teen, so why not give Rudy that chance! Plus, it'd be a fun way to tie both storylines from "Bridge Over Troubled Rudy" together!
Unpopular Opinion
I think he's a lot better at standing up to Louise when he needs to than people give him credit for. Louise can be a bit of a steamroller in her relations with other the other kids on the show, but honestly I think Rudy does as good a job standing up to her as anybody except Tina (who has the big sister card to play, and has a LOT more opportunities.)
"Bridge Over Troubled Rudy" is the best example of this, and the more I think about it, I think Rudy does a really great job of setting boundaries in a mature (for a 9-year-old) way. After Louise's "weenie" comment, he doesn't insult her back or tell her they aren't friends any more, he just asks her to leave. And when the Belchers show up at his mom's house, it doesn't seem like he's still holding a grudge over it, and he accepts Louise's apology. As I wrote about at length elsewhere, one of the things I think is great about Louise and Rudy's relationship is that it evolves over time in ways that reflect them both growing as individuals (after all, they are only 9) and I think Rudy learning to set his boundaries and Louise respecting them is a part of that growth. Post-"Bridge Over Troubled Rudy", I can't think of a time when Louise ropes Rudy in to something he doesn't want to do (like in "House of 1,000 Bounces" or "Mission Impos-slug-ble" previously) and he actually stands up to her on behalf of Arnold and the Pesto Twins in demanding their candy refund when they can't see the stage in "The (Raccoon) King and I".
Also, I just have to mention how much I love Rudy's snarkiness in "The Gene Mile". First, there is him questioning the rest of the group when they say they are continuing to get ice cream "for Gene". Then, there's the moment where Louise keeps talking about how she's riding with one hand and he says "Someone's fishing for a compliment...Good job, Louise." He's tone there just kills me.
In short, Rudy is a genuinely nice kid...but that that doesn't mean he's a pushover or a wimp or incapable of standing up for himself or anything like that.
Favorite Relationship
Yeah, it's Louise. But I would always be happy to see more of him with Gene and Zeke. And I really overthink his relationship with his dad.
Favorite Headcanon
It's not necessarily a fun one, but I like to believe that his parents had him start seeing a therapist after the events of "The Amazing Rudy". Running away from the dinner like that was clearly a cry for help (possibly speaking from personal experience here...) and I'd like to think this his parents are smart enough and care enough to notice that and get him some help.

You mentioned you skip things you dislike, same, but I'm curious what plots you dislike the most?
Ha okay
To clarify from last night, though, I don't actually mind Comeback all that much (except Sue's story line is not in great taste at points) but it was getting late and I really wanted to watch BIOTA. Lol
Really, at this point - a lot of the things I dislike are a lot of trends -- such as the racism or fatphobia or just meanness that a lot of times permeated the show. There are also moments that just infuriate me -- such as Emma giving up her 'virginity' as a prize to Will for winning Nationals. Or the continued 'how to be a real man' rhetoric the show kept trying to shove down our throats. That stuff makes me want to throw things at the wall.
Here's a list of my least favorite story arcs in no order except, perhaps, chronological:
The Fake Baby - Season 1: I think over the years, I've gone a lot softer on Terri, and can recognize the satire the show was going for. But I still think the idea that Terri could fake a pregnancy for that long without Will noticing feels like a stretch and I've always found it a bit dumb.
Will/Emma/Ken/Terri Love Triangle - Season 1: It's not that it's bad -- Season 1 might have the tightest comedy in the show, I'm just bored by it because I really do not care about these characters. And Ken might be one of my least favorite characters during the entire run.
Will's Mid-Life Crisis - Season 2: It was clear that the show wasn't sure what to do with Will, especially after the pivot to focusing on the kids, and a majority of his stories in Season 2 weren't all that great.
All of it - Early Season 3: There's not much going on in eps 1-8 that I like - The First Time is an exception, and even within that episode there are things that I'm just like, ew, no. In case you're wondering - a run down of bad storylines in Early Season 3
Rachel v Mercedes which seemed like a cop out so they could feature Rachel still while trying to give Mercedes /something/ but while the concept of the Trouble Tones was fine, it's marred by the fact that Brittany and Santana are so mean during this time period
The Student Election - which I find frustrating, partially because it ties into the weird - Kurt is too gay to accomplish things stuff - but also partially I'm not a fan of how they showcased Brittany either. (I do like the unicorn concept, fwiw though)
Sue v Beiste for Cooter. Why was this a thing? Also - it's soured due to the fact that Cooter because a domestic abuser.
Finn disliking Blaine - because why not
Rory. Look, no shade at Damian McGinty. But Rory is easily the most boring and useless character on the show.
Santana's coming out - I think her development in Season 2 was great! The fact that this was botched so horribly is just frustrating. Santana is probably at her worst during this period - and her cruelty swept under the rug. Brittany is barely a part of the story line. And the whole thing becomes about Finn and how he's handling it more than what Santana's going through.
Puck/Quinn/Shelby - I hate it. I hate all of it. This is by far my least favorite story line in the show. I could make an entire separate post about how much I hate this story line.
Will and Emma - Season 3: It's not the worst, but Will's continued terrible decisions in relation to Emma are just frustratingly annoying -- such as his treatment of her about getting tenure and how he deals with her mental illness.
Sue's Pregnancy - Season 3: Why? Why was this a thing? It ultimately served no purpose and was mostly erased and not talked about after Robin was born.
Princess Rachel - late Season 3: Rachel was, annoyingly, handed everything on a silver platter because the writers felt like she deserved it after all of her 'suffering'. Props might be the worst - when Tina is brainwashed to say how wonderful and magical Rachel is and then they go stalk Carmen Tibideaux. (The Prom episode stuff is bad, too). But the worst part about all of it is that it came at the expense of Kurt - who got to fail so that Rachel could be lifted up.
Marley's Easting Disorder - Season 4: It was just poorly handled in general and 'resolved' by a Ryder making her feel better about herself. I just can't with it.
Marley/Ryder/Jake Triangle - Season 4 (and 5): It's just boring. And after all the love triangles and not great romances on the show it just wasn't that interesting.
Previously Unaired Christmas - bleh
Anything Vocal Adrenaline - Season 6: While I think I understand why there was so much VA -- it was a way to fill out the episodes. It was just too much.
Looking at the episode list, those are the big ones. There are minor things here and there, and definitely moments that make me want to throw things, too.

What do you think of Justice League: Gods and Monsters? Especially its version of Superman.
Of the movie in general I'm a fan. It's the only post-DCAU work from Timm that made me believe that he's got some of his old spark remaining inside.
Tumblr media
Story moves at a rapid pace so you don't get to spend as much time in this universe as I'd like. But what's there is solid and works within the timeframe given. Someone is framing the Justice League for murders of scientists, scientists who are all connected to a mysterious "Project: Fair Play". Sounds like a typical Justice League story, except this isn't your typical Justice League. Instead of the Trinity we know, here Superman is the son of Zod, Batman is a vampire, and Wonder Woman is a princess of the New Gods. Other differences abound, such as a Lex Luthor who is older and not power hungry, Amanda Waller being the President, Lois Lane not being in Superman's corner, and more. Such a shame that we never got to see this movie spun out into a full fledged animated universe the way Timm clearly was hoping, because the world building is in place to support a JL show.
Animation here is in the Timm-DCAU style and that helps the quality level markedly. Fight scenes are on par with some of the best in the DCAU, particularly the final fight at the end between Superman and the Metal Men. I'm not one for nostalgia over the DCAU but watching this movie, I must admit greater appreciation for how Timm's style results in more fluid animation. The DCAMU struggled to animate the more detailed style of that universe in ways that often led to choppy fight sequences, and watching a return to the old style helped me understand why many disliked the change. Think this was also one of Andrea Romero's last animated projects, and as expected from anything with her involvement, the voice acting was great.
I talked already about Superman here, and this movie's take on Batman and Wonder Woman are just as enjoyable twists on familiar archetypes.
Tumblr media
Batman is still a weird figure of the night, and also someone who is connected to the traditional Batman Mythos: Kirk Langstrom who is normally Man-Bat. Not the first time Batman has been a vampire but Kirk being the man under the cowl makes for an intriguing change. For one he's a killer who feeds on criminals in order to sate his bloodlust, but isn't a sadist like most killer Batmen become. While he and Bruce have similar issues with social interaction, Kirk is less messed up emotionally because he isn't motivated by trauma. Telling Tina that he cares for her and won't let any harm come to her is that kind of confession that takes Bruce enormous effort, but Kirk makes it look easy despite his default emotional tone being rather deadpan. While Hernan gets focus as well it's really Kirk who is the main protagonist given he has direct ties to the villain responsible for framing the League, and is the one who takes point investigating the connection between the victims.
In line with her counterparts, Wonder Woman is similarly still a Princess from a utopian society blessed with divine powers. Furthermore she abandons her perfect home because of her love for a man. Unlike Diana however, Bekka is a deity herself, and a New God instead of a champion of the Old Gods. Her "man" is Orion of Apokolips, and it's his death which she helps facilitate that convinces her to break ties with New Genesis and flee to Earth. She's less kill happy than her teammates, or even when regular Diana is waving around a sword, and also less uptight and regal. Sad to say but while I think Timm had good ideas about Bekka, and I would love to see another movie or a series that picks up where this movie leaves her, much like her DCAU counterpart she is the weakest of the Trinity character-wise. Hernan and Kirk get little characters arcs that leave them in different places by the end, while Bekka doesn't change, something she acknowledges herself at the end. Clearly Timm wanted to do more with her which sadly doesn't seem likely to happen.
Far as Elseworlds go I thought this was one of the better ones, certainly a much more nuanced and interesting take than I would've expected from Timm. If we had only gotten the shorts/series he had planned I think this absolutely could be a universe strong enough to support further stories. Definitely recommend it as one of the "good" DC animated movies for anyone looking to kill an hour or two.
