"not the time for scrupules, we have to save the future"
#basically same line i just hear them differently in french idk why#i also catch a lot more plot in french somehow?#not big plot but the little things like 'im gonna go here do this and youre gonna go there do that'#in english they slide right off me in french i suddenly hear them its really weird#anyway thinking abt yasmin 'postponing the breakdown' khan#it's different than what 13 is doing i think#maybe once back home it'll turn into smth similar as 13 is doing idk#but here it's different it's pragmatic#oh right thats what i used to think about back with flux right? the respnsibility#i think yaz feels a lot of responsibility which is sligthly different from the doctor's Duty#all the things yaz does are Slightly Different to what the doctor's doing bc yaz is a person still#she has a family and a history and you feel that when she makes her choices#when she consciously prioritises the doctor you feel that#when the doctor betrays their values it's just themself#when they prioritise one person over the universe it's just themself to be accountable to#the fact that it's 'over the universe' at all is part of the issue#anyway#like i mean. Duty is like a platonic ideal. but it's impersonal. yazs sense of responsibility. to the doctor. to her family.#is very personal and tangible#it's not DutyTM as in 'i need to do this bc i told myself so and otherwise i wont deserve my name'#it's just. she cares#and i think all of the things they have the same but different are abt that difference#about what 13 says on the beach. in a way#wough thasmin#i need to write them#need to come up with some nice plot for them#like 6 months post potd happy ever after au. 6 months-1 year smth like that

Thirteen Era Rewatch: Rosa
I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.
I don’t like that they referred to the TARDIS as ‘it’ and ‘thing’, it sounds wrong lmao
Tumblr media
I like that 13 jumps in front of everyone after Ryan gets hit but then Yaz jumps in front of her and basically takes more control than 13 does for a second
I’ve seen people say that 13 should’ve done more during this ep to defend Ryan/Yaz from the racism but I don’t think there was much she could’ve done tbh. I think it makes more sense for her to just tell everyone to lay low and be careful bc racism is like, woven into basically everything there. It’s not like in S10 when 12 slapped a racist and then the worst that happened is him and Bill got tied up, if the they up too much of a fight in Alabama everyone else around them would’ve been on their ass and things would just get worse.
Thirteen continuing her trend of confronting the bad guys when the fam aren’t there to properly see it, basically hiding that side of herself so the fam just think of her as a happy spacewoman. Don’t understand how people can see confrontation scenes like this and come out of it thinking 13 doesn’t have any authority and isn’t threatening. She’s great??
Tumblr media
I know people say they were tryna plant seeds for Ryan and Yaz getting together but tbh I’ve always seen that scene more as two friends/siblings who never compliment each other just being awkward but idk, it might just be bc I’ve always got my Thasmin goggles on
I love all the small references to 13 being a woman. Acknowledging that it’s a change but not making it a big deal. Tho we do so it in how she acts. Like I think chances are if she was a man, she would have handled Ryan being hit slightly differently
Tumblr media
I love Ryan and Yaz’s chat while they’re hiding and also Ryan and Rosa’s chat outside Rosa’s house. I find it interesting that Ryan can have these deep chats with other people but will brush Graham off most of the time.
Love how much Grace is brought up in this episode. I feel like it would’ve been very easy to kinda forgot about her and not bring her up that often even tho she’s a big part of Ryan/Graham’s arcs
I really don’t care that Krasko doesn’t have any motives other than being a massive racist. He doesn’t need another motive, people who just Are racist for no real reason actually do exist. Not every racist needs an explanation behind it (like Joan in HN/Fob). He’s also not the main focus. We don’t need some fancy fleshed out space racist with a sad backstory for this ep when the focus is supposed to be on Rosa and her story.
I don’t get how some people think this episode is them taking the choice away from Rosa or causing it to happen? The whole point is that this is what Rosa does herself but Krasko is in the way trying to stop it so The Doctor and co have to keep it on track. They don’t force or persuade Rosa to do anything. She chooses to stay seated. The only thing is the Doctor and co just happened to be there when it took place.
I love that Ryan is the one to get rid of Krasko. I’m sure ppl have complained about how 13 doesn’t care that Ryan shot Krasko off into the far future but like… he’s a space racist so why would she care? Ryan didn’t kill him or anything, he just sent him somewhere else.
Seeing Graham not want to be involved in what’s happening but have no choice is kinda interesting idk
I find the moments where Yaz is kinda stuck in the middle and doesn’t know what she should do pretty interesting. Like, she is allowed to sit in the white area of the bus but also she is getting called a Mexican and hiding behind bins from the police.
I like the talk at the end about Rosa’s impact but the asteroid thing is a bit odd. Like idk how her having an asteroid named after her is exactly proof she ‘changed the universe’. Don’t asteroids and stars get named all kinds of random shit??
Carrying on the theme of talking about what we know about the characters - 13 keeps mostly happy around the fam but goes off on her own to confront the bad guy. Yaz is authoritative, showing her police training, and says she likes/wants to be in charge. Graham and Ryan have a better relationship than the previous eps but Ryan is still iffy with him sometimes.

Once, Upon Time
I’m having a ton of fun with Flux so far and the trailer for this ep looked WILD so I guess it’s time to see Yaz get hit with all of time
oh hello lady from the trailer that I had forgotten about
daleks already??
‘my love’ putting my bet in early that this is going to be Vinder
ok so before it looked as though the flux obliterated everything in its path but does it just...destroy but leave the planets mostly intact?
and just leave temporal chaos?
ok I was too engrossed and not making any notes but !!!! Ruth Doctor!!!!
(general thoughts up to this point are that I’m enjoying how unsettling and disorientating it is)
I do kinda wish they’d given Thirteen an outfit a bit more like Ruth Doctor’s instead of just a different colour coat
who gave the Georgian man a space gun
lol I like Bel’s lil cute siri thing
hmmm Yaz’s outfit in that first scene with the Grand Serpent is slightly timelord-y
now is that actually Yaz, and she’ll remember these scenes with Vinder
or is it someone in Vinder’s mind being made to look like Yaz
oo-er bling crystal skeleton man was even uglier in the past
I guess we already saw him looking like this at the start of ep1 but I hadn’t quite realised how much he changed
interesting that Azure is mostly the same though
so if they captured both the bling siblings, how did Azure end up in a house in the arctic circle while Swarm was in mega prison??
with Dan definitely being Karvanista in the Doctor’s memory, I wonder who the other two are
and actually I wonder how the Doctor even found out about Karvanista being in the Division in the first place
and also how old even is Karvanista???
if the mouri can just send more mouri to atropos to fix everything then why….didn’t they just do that earlier???
I’m loving the doctor’s anger and blind desperation to go back to her memories
‘this universe is over’ what a calmly-delivered gut punch
also who is this mysterious lady? from the way she’s behaving it’s as though she’s beyond this universe
oooh the flux is going to be something that only exists bc the Doctor destroyed gallifrey isn’t it
Yaz is clearly getting increasingly disillusioned with the Doctor
the girls gonna be fightin’ soon
aww Vinder’s reaction to seeing the tardis
and yet again Yaz being the Doctor to Vinder’s companion
she’s becoming the person she believed the Doctor to be
called it about Bel and Vinder
but she’s far away by now :( hope he’s back soon, I really like him especially after learning more about him this ep
the angels have the phone box!!
Man this series is A Lot but the slight chaos to everything really works building this feeling of time collapsing in on itself. I wish we’d got more Ruth Doctor this ep but other than that 10/10 can’t wait for next week!! And we’ll finally learn about Claire!

Nikola Tesla's night of terror
Why delay Tesla giving the orb to the Doctor? I mean we did get a cool moment where I thought the Doctor was gonna aikido the artefact right out of Tesla - but then didn't - and it was a cute moment. Do enjoy Jodie' acting choices a lot - lots of little moments where she chooses to put in just a slightly different expression or feel to it than you'd expect
These scorpion robots are extremely fucking clumsy lol
Why would the queen stick with Nikola if the Doctor clearly is cleverer. Why would the Queen spare Edison by only buzzing his wrist. Why isn't Edison worried about being ruined bc all the workers in his factory straight up died? Basically we really could have done without his character imo
Loved the continued trend - deliberately placing people behind her again and again, and Yaz follows the direction immediately, gratefully.
Really think Jodie played the sassy bits and the 'oh nooo I'm defeated lol' bits very well. Still not entirely happy with the way she plays the enthusiasm for random science and history. The more she does it the less believable it gets to me unfortunately .... :/
The dead planet stuff. Nice.
The way she mercilessly kills the queen and the whole hive - erasing even her memory. Ok??? (Though the animation seemed to imply the ship fled??)
And the Doctor insisting on no guns for Ryan but in the same episode, they gather weapons at her direction, Graham tries to use a death ray, Edison actually kills a scorpion usefully, and the Doctor blasts the ship with an actual death ray. So the Doctor says: no guns. But everybody still uses them including herself and the narrative says: use guns it works!!!
The music was weird. In a way - too dramatic.
And I don't quite understand the Edison-Tesla narrative. Edison was a dick. But not fully bad or something? Tesla was a visionary. He died penniless and didn't get famous the way he wanted - that's sad - but still - go on anyway! Or whatever. Ok? It's supposed to be tragic - but...also hopeful? It didn't really land...
If they had used these scorpions well then those red eyes would have been really damn creepy. Way creepier than them taking the appearance of dead men. Also why was the queen flesh and the robots metal. The actress was good.
This episode was quite weak. And once again suffered from overcrowding and ' I don't know what to do with them!' Ryan and Graham and Yaz made about as much impact as Dorothy. It's like nobody is interested in these people - in letting them be affected, or letting them impact anything. Though Yaz did get to project onto Tesla. Also thought Graham was acting a bit strange.... Though he got the most lines lol
Liked the acting for Nikola. From all of them really. But featuring Nikola so heavily probably messed things up actually. That's the problem with historicals and famous people - the writer becomes too interested in THAT character.
Kinda sillly and very bland. And probably worse than Orphan 55? Yeah...

Okay so @spaceterrariums and I were discussing having nostalgic Doctor Who Episodes and I managed to write out a whole ass idea for a series w 13 and ppl who have previously been on the show.
Episode One: Mostly just a normal episode but a really dangerous adventure and the doctor cuts it very fine and Graham, Yaz and Ryan and a whole planet come very close to dying. When they survive the Doctor asks so where to next and they all just want to go home so she drops them off and is sad about it. You then see her in different places alone that we’ve visited before (The Library before it was closed and other such places) and then she finally ends up in London and who does she happen to bump into Wilf! Who doesn’t recognise her at first but then sees the tardis and is like doctor want to have a cuppa and they have a heartfelt chat and he gives her some good advice that I haven’t thought of yet and mentions Donna a bit and it’s all a bit sad and the doctor give Wilf the tardis number. She returns to the tardis thinking about all the people recently and we get flashbacks to people that have come and gone and we see a tear fall off her nose and onto the tardis’ sensor things that can detect a place from an object. She then returns to Sheffield and the fam come back to her but as she’s about to go somewhere the tardis takes off with out her controlling it.
Episode 2: The fam arrive somewhere and the doctor is hella confused and so they go out and do all kind of scans and things but nothing is wrong and it’s very tense and scary. But then we go back to the tardis and we see River also looking very confused and rifling through her tardis diary and it’s not in there, she’s not supposed to see the doctor but she can’t help herself so she goes into the tardis bc of course she can. Then when the others get back you just hear her go Hello Sweetie. (I had also planned for River to pretend she doesn’t know which one of the fam the doctor is bc that would be hilarious but I’m not sure how that would work :/ ) And yeah and then the doctor goes river and almost choked up because “you shouldn’t be here, why can I see you and stuff” but also her wife!! And then river is like oooh you’ve changed, I like it (and possibly makes a comment about her having breasts and stuff and just being a little bit river) and they kiss bc of course. And then river asks so where are we because I can’t find it in here and the doctor goes I’m too far forward :’( and rivers like well let’s make the most of it. Then Graham is like hi and River is like oh Doctor you didn’t introduce your friends and so they meet and the doctor introduces river has her wife because they all cute and married. And so whilst river and the doctor are deciding where to go we see the fam talk like she’s married! And to a woman! What! And also Graham catches the fact that the doctor won’t see her again and is sad but yeah. Then they go on an adventure somewhere with river flying the tardis and it doesn’t make the noise and I haven’t worked out the rest of it but river and the doctor are fun and banterous and it’s great. Except for when they have to leave bc they really do :(((( and the Doctor is like goodbye but had gotten past river in the past few years because it’s been a while but still sad and rivers like I’ll see you soon and the doctors like yes you will but also slightly melancholy and won’t tell river why but it’s fine but it’s really not.
Episode 3: the fam go back to Earth bc there’s an alien attack back on the normal timeline and guess who they bump into - the one and only Martha Jones who is a spy/medic of some kind now UNIT is shut down. And Martha is shocked to see the doctor but also like doctor!!!!! Who she initially thinks is Ryan bc he’s the first one out of the tardis. And she’s like you’ve changed and then the doctor is like yes I really have and steps out. And then they sort the alien invasion out and Martha asks them round for tea and biscuits. And guess what Mickey and Martha have a kid!!!! (I haven’t worked out the specifics w that one but they do) and Mickey is a house husband/stay at home dad. And the kid is like dad dad it’s the tardis (bc of course they grew up on stories of the doctor) and mickeys like of course it is but then it actually is. And Martha’s like guess who decided to show up for tea. So they all have tea and the kid tells the fam about all the adventures and stuff and they’re like oh wow and Graham’s like yeah I remember that hospital disappearing it was wild. And yeah and the episodes ends all happily when they all get into the tardis (but so does the kid).
Episode 4: this is The Historical Episode™️ (I’m not sure when tho). But basically Mickey and Martha’s kid seeks onto the Tardis and is like wow but the doctor doesn’t see them and so they go somewhere, leave and then the kid sneaks off in the past and then ends up getting into trouble w the aliens that are there bc of course. The doctor saves the day and returns the kid to Martha and Mickey a few seconds after they’d left and is like this one snuck aboard but no worries nothing happened. But then it finishes w Mickey getting a call from a teacher saying that the kid is acting up in history saying all these things about x time period that aren’t true and refuses to change their mind.
Episode 5: normal episode w some fun thing going on in space and yeah :) then yas and the doctor talk about Mickey and Martha and why she never visits them and the doctor says it hurts too much to see what I did to them. Martha used to be a nurse, a healer but look at her now a gun in her hand always fighting. I did that to her and I’ll never ever forgot it because I can’t do that to more ppl. And they hug and it’s cute and yeah.
Episode 6: The doctor is by herself for a bit when the phone rings. Confused she answers. It’s Wilf he’s raving about Donna and how she remembers and somethings wrong it’s not working the memory block. The doctor is there immediately bc Donna!!! And so she’s about to put the memory block back on (What happened was the last attack where the doctor and Martha met she saw the tardis and it all started coming back to her. Basically a big flashback scene is necessary where we see Donna see the tardis. Nothing happens but then we flash to later and Donna’s asking her mum if she had knew a good doctor, her mum asks why are u ill? And Donnas like no reason. We then see her googling aliens and daleks and planets and blue boxes. She finds a picture of the Tardis and it’s like a damm has been lifted and that’s when Wilf calls the doctor. Donna can barely function bc she’s collapsing bc of being part time lord part human and is literally passed out on her bed and the doctor comes in to wipe her memory and sees the stuff around her room and is like wait she’s right if I do this it could stabilise her for a bit if she’s hooked up to the tardis core and maybe something else will work so she moves Donna into the tardis and gets to work. Wilf keeps an eye on Donna and keeps hurrying up the doctor bc Donna is fading and fading fast. They manage it just about and Donna wakes up herself and is like “You! You idiot why couldn’t you think of this the first time!” And the doctor laughs bc Donna’s back. And then donnas like hold on a second since when were u a woman? And the doctor catches her up on bits and pieces but is like this solution won’t last, I’m going to have to wipe your memory again soon. But Donnas like you always were a bit on the thick space boy and the doctor says Oi! And then they banter and talk weird sciencey time lord stuff about regeneration energy and is there a way to extract it. And it turns out there is but they have to go lots of places to get the pieces for the extractor. So we get some witty Donna Doctor banter. And Donna flies the tardis for a bit. But then they need somewhere to put the regeneration energy so they’re like hmm and donnas like doctor you need to cut off a body part. And the doctor complains bc that hurt a lot last time but it has to be done bc the regeneration energy needs to go somewhere. I have yet to work out which body part. Unfortunately tho the extraction of the regeneration energy means that Donna can’t go anywhere near regeneration energy so can’t go anywhere with the doctor once it’s done and it’s sad and they have a heartfelt goodbye :(
And that is all that I came up with but there could probably be more non nostalgic ones. And maybe have one with James Corden bc The Lodger and Closing Time were lots of fun. But yeah that’s my nostalgic doctor who ideas for a series. Enjoy :)

Orphan 55
You know what this episode could have done with? A talking all-powerful frog.
oh Thirteen is very unimpressed with Graham’s speedos
mardy Thirteen - they’re clearly all aware that something is Wrong, curious to see what they do with this
I see we're starting off strong with a furry straight away
maybe it’s cheap costuming/prosthetics but also maybe she’s literally just a furry and that’s how they do their makeup
I am v much Graham in this situation
would love to just sit and do nothing for a couple of weeks
honestly Ryan reacted extremely well to that virus
I would have definitely done a whole lot more panicking if there was suddenly a light moving under my skin
“I’m a pilot...surgeon...pilot surgeon...a surgeon for pilots” smooth
Thirteen : I just pulled this *shows a crisp bag with no indication of what's inside* out of a friend of mine Hyph3n: :O
I wonder if this is the monster they said was genuinely scary on set
ah the beautiful wigs
honestly the wigs are bad but in a fun way, I don’t mind them
“if I had crayons and half a can of spam I could build you from scratch, now out of my way” I like getting to see Thirteen getting to be like this
not like as a constant thing but the Doctor can always be a bit of an arse
“you just witnessed history” loll poor Ryan
though I wouldn't say a mission to rescue an old man from creatures capable of surviving nuclear winter is the best time for chatting someone up
tbh why have they brought Bella along on this mission (other than having a character to pair with Ryan)? she clearly doesn’t want to be there and isn’t staff or directly involved with Benni
“what you talking about?” “uh. we both have dead parents”
when they left the vehicle shouldn’t we have been able to see the creatures? and Benni??
idk it feels as though the threat of the monsters while they’re out in the open is very.....inconsistent
shouldn't Kane have told them the hatch code in advance if she didn't think she'd be there? or did I just miss her telling them...
“how about good old fashioned passive aggressive discussion?”
knowing about Bella’s issue with Kane explains the look she gave Ryan and Graham when they hugged after Graham realised he was alive
good thing the Doctor doesn't need as much oxygen as the others because of their respiratory bypass right? right??
OOOH
ok I didn’t see the twist coming
does this mean The Beast Below was about the people who managed to get away then?
Graham thinking Ryan died, Yaz seeing someone be killed violently, Ryan stuck with someone trying to blow them up - definitely not the relaxing break they were looking for
“made in china” - so did Kane just find a vending machine lying around out on the planet?? rather than bringing one from hers?
this ep feels kinda...disorientating? but not in a way that feels deliberate
like there’s a lot happening and idk if it just could have done with being edited slightly differently or what but it feels like a lot of surface stuff without the depth
ah yes, sun loungers to block the creatures that broke into an armoured vehicle
I like the concept of the people and the monsters balancing each other out and the Doctor manages to get some level of cooperation but then that just...goes nowhere huh
idk why but that kiss made me think of Martha and that guy from 42
something about Bella in general reminded me a bit of Martha
romantic.......thumb sucking.............
well that's one way to tell people to take care of the planet
me fundamentally agreeing w the message of the speech v me really not liking it
also the thing is...we know from the show that humanity still thrives, just not on Earth so I feel like as viewers that know the context of the show and coming from the Doctor who also knows this it just doesn’t have the genuine weight it could?
anyway I hope the fam gets therapy when they leave bc they’re gonna need it
so the Thirteen saw her home planet destroyed last ep and this ep the companions saw their home planet destroyed, I hope this comes around when Thirteen reveals more about Gallifrey
Next up? Tesla time! And more importantly: PERIOD COSTUME
