I'm so tired of age gap fics please if i can suspend my disbelief about mushroom zombies I can suspend my disbelief about the reader's age not being equivalent to my own, please just give me two 50(+) year old bastards falling in love no more of this 15+ year age gap I swear to god someone is gonna make me start writing last of us fanfiction at this rate.
Anyways, I would like to request some aid from the last of us fandom in terms of fic recs if anyone knows any good reader insert or x reader fics wherein they and joel are around the same age? Pre or post outbreak, au, I don't care I'm starving please if anyone has any let me know.
EDIT: I did not think this was going to get any traction which in hindsight was kinda stupid of me but I really want to clarify something since I originally left it in the tags which I probably shouldn't have. THIS ISNT A HIT PEICE. I've been a fanfic writer for years now even if this blog isn't exactly a great example of my supposed stellar writing consistency. I mean no hate towards the people who like age gap or write it it just isn't my thing personally and I would like to read fics that explore other topics besides that when it comes to this fandom. Yes I understand the easy solution is to write my own and i would be a liar to say I wasn't but I'm new to this fandom and still consuming the actual content and I know my drafts aren't exactly great right now in part because of that. What I wanted to accomplish here wasn't just to complain a little but to reach out and ask if anyone could point me in the direction of non age gap fics in the mean time and they did so thank you very much!! I genuinely appreciate it. Write what you like but understand that I also reserve the right to read what I like and to ask for help in finding it because let's be honest tumblrs search and filter system is non existent and asking for help was my next best bet so uh yeah I'm gonna stop rambling now and refine this maybe when I'm more awake and can word things better probably.

@windsweptinred still on the subject of rules, if I remember well, in the comics we never see the First bow before Morpheus, while we see the Second Corinthian bow before Daniel...
It makes the memory wipe all the more intriguing because what is Daniel so fearful of, he feels the need to protect the Corinthian from himself
I totally agree! even Flynn's role as 'guardian' is a way of protecting the Corinthian from himself, from that instinct to kill which, as in a wild animal, cannot be tamed

writing about an A and a B that are so different from the common idea people have about them in this fandom is both a blessing and a curse, because now I see all the posts talking about them as basically puppets with no free will and I have to remind myself that they are not my A and B. because mine not only are older than L and first met him at the Wammy's but also enjoyed the idea of becoming this detective L planned to create. like, L showed them what he can do and what he can teach them. and they both accepted it because "hell yeah, sign me up". they had different visions on how that's going to work for them, and they also kind of helped him set up the successor programme because in my mind, there's no way that L would start his career - he's overly confident that he'll become a great detective in no time - without a solid foundation that can make the detective persona live forever. basically, I changed them in this way cuz i want them to be the responsible for their own downfall, since it's a common theme in death note

The post I just reblogged makes me think about some of the fucking weird ways ppl infantilize women in their 20s who date older men. Is there a power dynamic that has the potential to be exploited? Often! But like. They're still very much adult women. A while back I saw someone say "What do they even TALK about" re: an actor in his late 40s dating a 25 year old actress. And like. Lots I bet??? Their careers and friends in common probably??? Ppl in their 20s are capable of having meaningful relationships with people 20+ years older, platonic or not.

my sister is going on a trip and i asked him “can you make sure she has a woman uber driver” and he’s like “She’s gonna crash her and they’ll both die and never make it to her location” and my sis and dad both laughed and i wasn’t laughing and he said “Cmon it’s funny. Don’t you get it? it’s because women can’t drive” and they laughed again, like NO SO SHE DOESNT GET FUCKIN ASSAULTED.
say 'guess men are stupid as well as bad drivers, because they cause the majority of crashes, not women, but they just blame everything on us as usual and take no responsibility'. watch them get mad despite making the same claims at you.

live musical theater is about getting to see like seven of the most beautiful stunning women you’ve ever seen do splits in sparkly outfits and then ten of the gayest men you’ve ever laid eyes upon and then also they all sing. and you get to watch this while also kind of rudely eavesdropping on the people sitting in front of you and speculating about their lives during intermission. what’s not to love…

I'm saying this as someone who has NOT read far enough to know if this is true or not, but grouping Shannon with the cousins the way they have, and the fact that she wears the one winged eagle, might also suggest that she's an illegitimate Ushiromiya. Let's hope not for George's sake.
shannon being related to them would be horrifying but i'm pretty sure it's not the case since "secret illegitimate family member masquerading as a servant" is kind of like so incredibly blatantly obvious as a mystery trope and i think if it was what's going on the "hints" wouldn't be laid on this thick in episode 1. i think the story wants you to think this might be the case but i also think it really truly is not the case.
i'm 99% sure the notion of "ushiromiya shannon" is being used as a smokescreen to detract from the real reason behind why shannon bears so much ushiromiya iconography and why she's actually trapped in this servitude role and receives so much attention from kinzo. given what we know about kinzo and how much he loathes his family/bloodline and his "anyone can solve the epitaph and win the headship wink wink nudge nudge" thing it's far more likely that he would only passively encourage someone not of ushiromiya blood to assume the headship. there might be some kind of loophole in his contract with beatrice where if the fortune is not in the hands of an ushiromiya when beatrice comes to collect her debts it's untouchable or something and so kinzo's been half-grooming shannon since infancy to assume some kind of role like that (my personal running theory with little evidence is that he's actually planning on using shannon's body as a vessel for beatrice's spirit to possess but if you go through the mental gymnastics of double-metaphor obfuscation, being possessed by beatrice and assuming the headship are kind of the same thing) as a servant with no will of her own or the ability to say no. so "ushiromiya shannon" could be argued to be the objective and not the starting point.
also logistically i cannot see how shannon being a secret child would work at all. since she's sixteen it means she'd have been born after every other cousin except for maria, which then limits whose child she could be - the existence of battler, jessica, and george dictate that rudolf, krauss, and eva aren't responsible. rosa is a fair deal younger than the other siblings so there's no way she could have concealed what would have in all likelihood been a teen pregnancy from the other family members. and if it was kinzo given his absolute rule as the ushiromiya patriarch there'd be no motive for him to conceal shannon in an orphanage and then backdoor hire her as a servant.
so yeah i think positioning shannon to the family like this is more indicative of a) kinzo's direct controlling abuse of her and b) the love and bond that the cousins have with her rather than some elaborate plot that makes sense from a trope-based point of view but not a thematic one.

Only children not knowing how to share is propaganda because when I was an only child I shared everything while my cousins who I lived with would kill each other and me before sharing anything ever. Siblings do NOT share idk why y'all are pushing only children in that stereotype XD
