Ruthie’s Collection: Playsuit

Ruthie’s official collection is tiny, so I’m expanding it with my own ideas. It’s getting hot outside, so Ruthie needs an outfit she can stay cool in. I used some vintage fabric my mom had lying around, and the 1930s Playsuit pattern by Keepers Dolly Duds. 

These are the playsuit and meet dress I’ve made, and I am working on her dance class outfits, plus some kind of sturdier wear when she helps Kit’s family in their garden and her winter coat ensemble and dress. The original pictures only show her wearing the purple meet dress she came in, and doesn’t describe any of her other clothing, so I’ve been basing a lot of the outfits on photos and extant pieces.

After months of work moving, buying furniture, assembling furniture, taking it apart and reassembling because you messed it up somehow, having to wait for dolls. to come back from getting cleaned up and restrung, and fighting off an overeager kitten to decorate, my doll set up is finally up!

I got 3 of the BROR shelving units from ikea- the deeper ones are just about the right size for a doll room, and also fit the space I had.

The bottom row will be storage for extra stuff once everything is set up.

The second row is Felicity and Elizabeth's space, which Caroline is sharing. Once I get something (probably plexiglass) to prevent the cat from jumping up, I'll be putting out felicitys table as well.

After the first day- you can see why the plexiglass is needed.

The top row isn't quite finished yet, but I put Kirsten out in her Saint Lucia dress in her little cubby! The cubby next to hers will be sort of a random space for whatever I feel like displaying (its currently holding Blaire and my OG doll Ava and a bunch of random stuff from their old set up in my room). Kaya will have the other end.

I miss my childhood setup (a tiny finished section of the attic that was too small for adults to fit without bending over but was perfect for a kid and her dolls), but so far I'm liking this new setup!

I'll update once the rest of the sections are done!

Claudie and Kit Headcanon

Ok so basically I’ve adored Claudie since we first heard of her. I was super excited bc I remember growing up I was always so confused on why we had a 30s and 40s doll but not a 20s one. There was so much untapped potential, as a kid, I adored history so I would go on wikipedia and just look things up about certain time periods. the 20s were a time for amazing growth and evolution, in a way it was the calm before the storm of the Great Depression and WWII.

My plan is to get Claudie for Xmas or maybe sooner once I find a job, I’m really excited to get her, I think she’d go great with Kit, I’m definitely going to make them best buddies. I was amazed to hear that Claudie’s mom was a reporter, and I thought of something that could be neat:

Kit was born in 1923, making her and Claudie ten years apart. By ‘43, Kit would be 20 and Claudie would be 30. I think it would be cool if Kit got the chance to move to NYC and become a reporter there, and she’d come across Claudie’s mother’s old articles and decide to interview her and potentially Claudie’s mom could become Kit’s mentor? Then through that Kit and Claudie could meet and potentially bond over living in a boarding house and talk about all of the interesting people they’ve met through that! I could see Claudie showing Kit around the city too.
