The Proposal by TheKittyCorps @contrascene - AOS - spirk version of "the proposal." laugh out loud funny in parts (yes, hijinks included)

Heirs to the Glimmering World by gunstreet @gunstreet - SNW/TOS - sybok, michael, and sam conspire to get their brothers together!! siblings! tentative first meetings! sex!

De Profundis by Rhaegal (RhaegalKS) - TOS - tmp-era spirk. spock knows he fucked up so he's gonna woo jim

The Kiss by awarrington - TOS - there are some super dated things in this fic (it was originally written in 1994) but this is one of the best i've read dealing with jim coming to terms with his bisexuality and attraction to spock. def don't read if you can't or don't want to take it in context of its time. if you can/have the emotional bandwidth to, then it's well worth it

On the Arrow by Fic_me_senseless - AOS - post-into darkness, heavy read, so much longing, and pain, and it makes you ache in the best way

i'm also in a "watch beyond on repeat phase" so here are my favorite post-beyond fics:

The Steadfastness of Stars by itsnatalie - AOS - this fic. THIS FIC. i was only going to read one paragraph, really. i skipped work, read the whole thing, and now this is in my top five spirk fics

in my life, i love you more by spaceisgay (ChancellorGriffin) - AOS - idek how many times i've read this now. i watch beyond, i read this fic. if they never make a fourth movie, this will be my canon

And Then I Let It Go by kianspo - AOS - yorktown happens, spock goes missing, jim goes after him. this could so be canon too

also all of @lovebugism’s summer fics have finally gotten me to live out my romanticized summer vibes ngl. they’re gorgeous and a hit every time 🥰

and i have yet to dive in properly yet (be still my beating heart), but my love @abibliophobiaa has a beautiful series for eddie currently called daylight that i am so excited to have some free time to properly read (also… for my steve girlies… beyond is to fucking die for.)

Benjamin by Federico Axat (not sure if book is available in English)

Throughout 320 pages out of 400 (estimate can’t remember exact page number) you know everything there is to know about the plot, the culprit, the characters, the timeline, last 80 pages turn everything around, all you knew still fits perfectly with the new revealed information, which is impressive by itself, but the most impressive thing is that the plot twist not only did affect the story, it also changed the book genre itself.

as a fellow stephen king girly, what are some of your favorite king recs?? looking for my next pick and thinking maybe salem’s lot or the stand… thots??

both of those are great! the stand is a long, long read so make sure you have time to invest. salem’s lot is a classic for a reason BUT definitely had some issues holding up when i tried to reread it (maybe i just wasn’t in the mood when i tried idk). my most recent was revival, which shocked me how good it was- especially the ending! it had some great references to a certain famous classic horror novel by a woman (don’t want to spoil it), but it mixes that with some really bleak cosmic horror that is very unlike his other works. i’ve also found craig dilouie (children of red peak and episode 13 are his best) and ronald malfi (come with me and black mouth are his best i’ve read) have similar styles to king so give them a read if you need that vibe.

my faves in no order:

carrie (my first stephen and what got me into “adult” horror)

the shining + doctor sleep (personally think doctor sleep is so underrated and too many people couldn’t get past the vampire-esque concept)

salem’s lot (also like the best adaptation of this is midnight mass despite not being an adaptation and i hope flanagan continues his original novel that he posted an excerpt from)

IT (can’t explain how much this one means to me; read it while listening to cobra starship and fall out boy if you want my middle school Experience™️ reading it)

pet sematary (it’s a classic for a reason but watch out because i felt this one did women especially dirty)

rose madder (a deep cut that stephen himself hates but i absolutely love- big tw’s for domestic violence though)

gerald’s game (also the movie lives up to and may surpass the book)

joyland (a kind of sweet coming-of-age/noir slow burn that’s a really tame but quick read)

christine (i’m from pittsburgh where it takes place so it’s special to me and its best adaptation is actually Halloween Ends and if anyone wants to discuss that further with me please do)

11/22/63 (great if you like historical fiction and for a quick cameo by some IT characters!)

Tell me more about this book blanket? I'm Fascinated

Omg yay!! Okay so I'm knitting two rows per book that I finish in 2024, and each book rows will be a different color based on the genre it is

So here are the books I've read so far. Everything that's in bold is what I've knitted, and the last book on the list is what I'm currently reading but haven't finished yet. So I've knitted everything before Fifty Feet Down, and read everything up to Annie on My Mind, but I'm currently like thirty percent through it.

I'm choosing colors as I finish genres, and I'm trying to do it only with yarn I have (cuz yarn is expensive and I have a lot of yarn. The reason I have a lot of yarn suitable for a blanket is because I took all of this yarn from a blanket I started knitting four years ago and never finished. Like I finished frogging that blanket yesterday and made it into cakes on my new yarn winder!!) I didn't really try to make the colors fit the genres. I just own a lot of navy yarn and knew I'd read a lot of LGBTQ books, and I own a lot of black and know I'll read a lot of horror books. Then for dystopian I just chose a yarn color that I had available, same with mystery.

Here's how it's going so far! You can see the four navy rows for the two LGBTQ books i read, the two purple for the one dystopian book (which is also very good, I highly recommend Debate Kids at the End of the World and that author in general, Alex Nonymous) and then a chunk of black because I read four I. S. Belle books in a row (you can also see all of the ends I didn't weave in, which I'm going to hate myself for when I finish the blanket)

"But Austyn, what if the book is more than one genre?" I'm so glad you asked! Most of these books could be considered more than one genre. Fifty Feet Down is a mystery, but also a romance. So I just consider what genre I believe is more integral to the story, if that makes sense. Fifty Feet Down could be relatively the same if the main characters were just friends, but the story would be vastly different if it wasn't a mystery. Therefore, it gets the mystery color instead of romance. Same with all of the I. S. Belle books. There's romance in them, but if you took out the romance it would still be pretty similar, but if you took out the horror it would be an incredibly different story.

So that's my 2024 book blanket!
