A young Christopher Lee guest stars as dastardly Larry Spence - a rising star in the world of journalism, turned blackmailer and then murderer - in The Vise: The Final Column (1.16, ABC, 1955); the episode wasn't seen in the UK until 1963, as part of ITV drama anthology Tension
#fave spotting#christopher lee#the vise#tension#1955#the final column#for more information on the complicated origins of The Vise (a US production entirely made in the UK) see my prev fave spotting post for#Jacqueline Hill's appearance on the series#Lee was hardly a newcomer when he made this ep; he'd been acting professionally since being demobbed a couple of years after ww2 and#was something of a stock player in british cinemas‚ usually in minor bit parts as caddish gentlemen or authority figures and military men#one of his first really significant roles would be later in '55 as a submarine commander in The Cockleshell Heroes#he was also making semi regular appearances on tv in small guest spots‚ albeit sometimes uncredited (as in ITV's The Adventures of the#Scarlet Pimpernel also around this time). a jobbing actor‚ basically‚ and not yet the cinematic icon he would begin (that journey starting#at the end of the decade and the beginning of his association with Hammer studios and horror immortality). he's very good here tho#host and narrator Ron Randell even describes him near the start of the ep as (something like) 'young‚ handsome‚ but sinister' which#may as well have been printed on business cards for the kind of work Lee would find himself doing for the next decade or so#yes he's a real rotter‚ a strangler of ladies and a blackmailer of tycoons‚ and in true Vise fashion he gets his just desserts and the mora#status quo is maintained (this is a very moral series and takes pains to inform us via Randell exactly what kind of punishment the villains#received after the events depicted)#Lee made two more Vise episodes but as Network (rip beloved) seemingly took a random approach to which episodes to include in their#first volume of the series (and obviously as it turned out only volume) i have no idea if either of those are on the set#one can hope! and i do bc it's lovely seeing him so young but with such a meaty role

Hey! For the Actor AU:
In the last interview Eros was bitching around and tried to humiliate Gil. How about in the same interview the host decide to play a little game. Do you know these electronic boxing punch maschines to test out your strength? It’s a little fun game and Eros is trying extra hard because he is very sure Gil is too old or too weak to hit it very hard. So everybody hits and Eros gets pretty arrogant because in this moment he has the highest point hoping to impress Thena. until it’s time for Gil. He is a bit shy but Thena challenges him to use his full strength and he does because it’s Thena duh! Pretty sure Eros shut his mouth very quickly :D
"I hate these things," Thena murmured as they prepared to start airing again on the live talk show.
She rarely participated in silly little games like this.
"Me too," Gil sighed back to her, the two of them hovering in a little unit of their own during the commercial break. His hands were stuffed deep into his jeans pockets, "y'know, you don't have to participate if you don't want to. I'll take your turn for whatever stupid thing we're about to do."
Thena beamed at him, tilting her head and letting her hair drift over her shoulder as she did, "you're too sweet."
Gil blushed.
He shrugged his shoulders, still hunched in on himself as if trying to hide himself away, "just volunteer to judge for us. That'll get you out of whatever bullshit is about to happen."
Thena laughed lightly with Gil until the audience was seated again. She sighed as they were called back to their marks.
"So, it's no secret that this cast has no slouches in the stunt department!"
Thena tried to keep her wince off her face, although she was already imagining what they were about to be put up to.
"So why not test it?"
All heads turned as a carnival game was wheeled out on stage, already lit up, displaying the possible scores to be obtained while punching the lever controlled punching bag in its centre.
"We're all gonna line up, and see who's got the best swing! Who's up first?"
"I'll go!"
Both Thena and Gil breathed a faint sigh of relief as Eros proudly and too-eagerly strolled right up to the brightly lit machine.
"Okay, great!" the host beamed, carrying along the necessary energy to keep the segment entertaining. He held out a hand, "Thena, would you care to keep an eye on things--make sure he's not pulling a fast one or anything?"
"Gladly," she smiled graciously, stepping into the appropriate spot for camera. She met Gil's eyes, who gave her a little bounce of his eyebrows, congratulating her on being able to skip out organically.
"I've been getting pretty good at boxing, while I was training for this," Eros grinned, shrugging off his suit jacket, which got some screams from the audience in and off itself. By the time his sleeves were rolled up they were frothing at the mouth.
But he kept his eyes on Thena.
"Any time," she prompted him, hoping to hurry him along (and cut down on the amount of intense eye contact he was making).
"This is for you," he winked, giving his knuckle a kiss before taking his best swing at the fake punching bag. It was a decent score, certainly, and he celebrated it. "Yeah!"
The crowd cheered for him, and Thena clapped obligingly, wearing a perfectly polite smile on her face. "Seems decent."
"Not bad, not bad," the host nodded along.
Most of them took their turns, some giving it a light tap and some giving it a full swing. Surprisingly, Eros' score was still just barely at the top.
"It seems I have youth on my side," he teased his castmates, who took the joke in stride (mostly). He leaned forward to look at Thena down the line from him, "what's my prize, m'lady?"
"Is youth not enough?" Thena teased him right back, earning a laugh from the crowd (even his loyal fans). "Gil still hasn't gone."
The audience erupted into screams, possibly even loud enough to rival Eros' reaction.
"Oh, I-I don't have to," Gil waved his hand, trying to squirm out of it. He had continuously let people ahead of him in the line for this exact reason.
"Oh come on, old man," Eros grinned at him, just barely attempting to make it sound lighthearted. "Don't tell me that shoulder's still bothering you!"
Thena's glare was not well concealed, but at least the cameras weren't on her in that particular moment.
"Fine," Gil sighed, mostly as the host himself pushed him to it. He looked at Thena, somewhat asking what he should do.
She smiled at him, though, "give it your best shot. Don't let the young blood talk about you like you're retired."
Gil chuckled. What she meant was that she wanted to shut him up, and she was asking Gil to do it. He nodded.
Gil pulled off his bomber jacket, which Thena took from him, watching much more closely for his turn than she had for the others. Gil shook out his shoulders first before inhaling, "here we go."
It happened so fast! His fist raised, it made contact with the speedbag, and then it was up and lodged back into place, the machine beeping and flashing high score. The whole thing took about four seconds.
"Wh-" the host blinked, "I-I didn't even see that! Do we have playback?"
It took a second, but the screen behind them displayed the camera's recording slowed down, showing that Gil had indeed hit the punching bag so hard that it was immediately swung back into its locked position from the force of it.
"That is an indisputable win from the Tyrant King himself!" the host cheered, raising Gil's hand for the audience's applause.
Thena also clapped for him, although once he turned back to her she cupped his chin with her hand, leaning him down to kiss his cheek.
Gil blinked in surprise, but he grinned at her the next second, "now that's a hell of a prize. I would've gone first if I'd known."

An actor of stage, television as well as movies does not keep this man busy enough he is also in a boy band ARASHI (since 1999) and he serves them as concert production since 2000 as well as other singers but mainly his own group. Also a concert director.
He has done several commercials as well including KFC JAPAN, NINTENDO, KIKKOMAN & HATACHI to name a few.
I came to know of Jun Matsumoto as Domyouji Tsukuba in the Hana Yori Dango Series and Movie Finale. He also took on the role a 4th time in a new generation version of the story called Hana Nochi Hare.
This guy has talent like crazy and very handsome. He doesn't seem to be stopping. Which his fans love I'm sure. And ARASHI is definitely fun to watch. They look like they're having so much fun. Plus the members of the group have also acted with him in movies and series.

Happy 60th Birthday Scottish TV host, actor and entertainer Craig Ferguson.
Ferguson was born in Stobhill Hospital on May 17, 1962 and brought up not far from where I now live in nearby Cumbernauld. He admits to growing up “chubby and bullied” At age sixteen hen left Cumbernauld High School and began an apprenticeship to be an electronics technician at a local factory of American company Burroughs Corporation.
In the early 1980s, Ferguson drummed in punk bands for a few years before working as a bartender led him to Michael Boyd, the artistic director of Glasgow’s Tron Theatre. Boyd talked Ferguson into giving acting a shot, which Ferguson soon did, finding the comedy prong of the art too compelling to ignore. Ferguson soon created an outrageous—and successful—stage character called Bing Hitler. On top of the local success he was experiencing, Ferguson used the experience as a backdrop from which to move into mainstream acting roles.
Craig’s first TV appearance came on an episode of the sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf in 1988, and it was enough to get him to head overseas to the United States for his first role on American TV. The part was playing a teacher in the pilot episode of High, which starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Zach Braff. The pilot wasn’t picked up, though, and Ferguson headed back to Scotland.
Once back home Ferguson found that roles came sporadically before he landed his own BBC show The Ferguson Theory in 1994 While the sketch comedy show put the funnyman front and centre, it only lasted five episodes.
When Theory was no more, Ferguson packed his bags once again for America. But this time he’d find a lot more success waiting for him than he did years before. When Ferguson joined The Drew Carey Show as Nigel Wick in 1996, his run lasted several seasons and led to the actor becoming a known quantity in the world of U.S. television.
Ferguson’s busy life on TV and the big screen got a lot busier in January 2005, when he took over the late-night comedy series The Late Late Show. Once it found its footing, Ferguson’s show was another hit, earning its first Emmy nomination a year into its run. Mixed in with his work on the show were several high-profile big-screen roles, often voice-over work, in movies like How to Train Your Dragon, Winnie the Pooh and Brave.
Ferguson, who became an American citizen in 2008, is also an author, publishing Between the Bridge and the River American on Purpose and  Riding the Elephant: A Memoir of Altercations, Humiliations, Hallucinations, and Observations..
In April 2014, Ferguson announced he would be leaving The Late Late Show at the end of 2014, with the final episode aired 19 December, Craig  went on to win two Emmys with his new game-show for the same network.
Craig returned to Scotland in 2019, his younger son goes to school in Glasgow and he said in an interview a couple of years ago that he caught Megan, his Vermont-born wife saying “umnae”, for those non-Scots amongst us it means am not!
In his memoir Riding the Elephant, Ferguson writes candidly about his alcoholism, how his toxic drinking nearly derailed his early career – and is honest enough to take the reader beyond the “happy ever after” moment to set out the challenges of living life in recovery. He has been sober for over 27 years now, and openly admits at his lowest ebb he contemplated taking his own life.
Craig was back in the stand up at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019. While many Scots might knock Craig Ferguson for what they perceive to be him selling out with his time in the US I personally like the guy and his attitude, as he says:
‘My only ambition is to be authentic, not pandering to someone else’s idea’
Quite right Craig, be your own man. In 2018 he had a guest role in Still Game, in which he played a suave stuntman, he recalls meeting the sitcom’s creators Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan in Los Angeles and asking them to write a character for him, he later said;
'And they wrote the part of a phoney prick who comes back from California!’
He took that on the chin as he should.
When James Corden revealed that his own tenure on The Late Late Show would end in 2023, Twitter was awash with suggestions that Ferguson come back. Craig took to twitter and said
Congratulations to @JKCorden on a spectacular run.  Outstanding job! Retirement is awesome.  See you at the bingo. Well done my friend. Xx
I follow him on twitter and liked his reply to  Radio Personality Shorty
We really need to bring back the Craig Ferguson Show on CBS. @CraigyFerg.
His reply,
Tumblr media
Craig's more recent work includes appearances in the shows Urban Myths and The Hustler, a wee fact you might not know about oor birthday boy is that he was one of the writers of the ITV show Doc Martin, writing 12 episodes for them.
