The Fullest History of a Hylic World
Tumblr media
It has been three years now since I began obsessing over the purposefully vague worldbuilding of the Hylics games, so I’d say now’s about time I finally share with you all MY personal interpretation of how this world and its many ages were sculpted!
Without further ado, please enjoy my absurd history lesson 🌙
In an unknown year during an unknown age, the planet’s celestial satellite began to soften. Less than a year later the satellite, or “Moon” as it was called by the planet’s original denizens, fell from its orbit and drenched the earth in a thick, viscous matter. 99% of the flora and fauna were crushed under the weight of the moon and melted beneath it but not entirely killed, instead becoming a living terrestrial ocean.
Once the moon matter hardened into a sturdy clay, pockets of life begin to mold themselves out of the soil in the form of thin strands of clay piled on top of each other. This era is known as the Age of Insects.
It is speculated that this event occurred simultaneously alongside the final death and/or reconstitution of the few surviving mutants of the previous age, all too obsessed with their last remaining arcades, televisions, and metal detectors to attempt to rebuild their old world. Those that accept this theory title this parallel age as the Age of Non-Sequiturs.
Metamorphic beings with self-awareness evolve throughout the island chains dotted across deep, viscous oceans. Surviving electronic carapaces join them in conscious thought, displaying pictures that inspire them to create more advanced tools and architecture. The Age of Self-Actualization begins.
Grand cities are constructed (ex: Amulom, Yiithorn, etc.) as well as microwaves and paper cups. Gestures begin to be recorded onto televisions without the need of a VCR. Some computers are later domesticated, whilst others evolve further. Boats and flying ships are invented too.
The existence of the Afterlife is well-known amongst all hylics and is treated as sacred, as there are no ways of accessing it outside of dying.
Certain hylic individuals dedicate their beings so closely to understanding certain unknown aspects of their lives that their bodies begin to morph into new forms. These larger forms allow them to achieve higher states of consciousness via psychic inclinations, and thus they are labeled as “Sages” by the hylics.
Alongside this phenomena, distant memories of the moon begin to show themselves in rock formations and living beings. Some beings view the existence of a now-absent moon in reverence, constructing pottery and even a television in its image.
The Great Conflict is fought between the Sages and a terrifying force hellbent on conquering the entire world and subjecting all beings to their violent whims. It is the first major battle fought for the sake of the earth, and it lasted a decent length of time by hylic standards. Only after defeating their most powerful general, a psychic homunculus they created named Fuller, did the conflict finally end, though some forces still survive today and wish to take what is rightfully “theirs.”
An underground building project near Amulom accidentally unearths an opening to the Afterlife. Wanting to heighten the potential of all hylic life so no more conflicts will ever be fought again, the Sages join together and construct the Hylemxylem. The massive organism uses its tendrils to suck up terrestrial juice from the Afterlife below in order to convert it into raw energy and transmit it across the atmosphere. This ushers in the enlightened Age of Sages, which lasts for a good length of time by hylic standards.
Whilst the ‘xylem persists, certain moon-obsessed beings who disagree with the harvesting of terrestrial juice begin construction on an alternate method of utopia. After many, many years, it is finally pulled out of the atmosphere and set to orbit the planet as a celestial satellite. This creates lurid controversy, but nothing too obscene.
Having taken too much juice from beneath the earth, the Hylemxylem implodes on itself. The resulting deluge of terrestrial juice engulfs most of Amulom’s archipelago. Alongside this, many of the technological advancements such as cabinets and paper cups become buried and nearly forgotten by both the remaining and future hylics. This calamitous event becomes known as The Accretion.
Gibby, self-proclaimed King of the Moon, finally makes himself known across the planet. Taking advantage of the chaos left in the wake of the Accretion, he convinces the populace that the Sages are the enemy of the hylics and establishes his celestial satellite as the single enlightening force. The Sages go into hiding, and after forming an army of soldiers and bureaucrats alike, the King enacts his spell of absurdity to reduce the earthly hylics into a state of lunacy. This, he believes, is the only way to reconstitute the earth and re-establish the Age of Sages he was denied a part in.
A yellow, crescent-headed moon being named Wayne escapes the Moon and finds a nice abandoned house to crash at for a little while. He and his only friend, Somsnosa, find a microphone and guitar in a trash can and decide to make some music. Moonage Lobotomy is formed.
One day Wayne convinces Somsnosa, alongside two other anarchists named Dedusmuln and Pongorma, to fly to the Moon and defeat Gibby once and for all. The Moon is destroyed and sanity is reestablished, but other than a single poet there were no permanent deaths recorded.
A gibbylet of Gibby survives the destruction of the Moon and finds itself in the hands of Blerol, chieftain of the newly established city of New Muldul. After several days of being convinced of its potential destructive power, the chieftain agrees to move it from a display case in his safe to be sealed within a vault on the forbidden island of Foglast.
On a peninsula nearby New Muldul, a population of creatures who call themselves Wayne, birthed by a sage-like psychic known as Old Wayne, is discovered and befriended by the locals. Preparations for Gibby’s potential return are taken seriously by friend and foe alike.
Moonage Lobotomy goes on to release its fourth studio album after the second defeat of Lord Gibby and the destruction of his recreated Hylemxylem, resulting in the highest selling record ever recorded and the first world-wide concert tour. As the tour is going on, Wayne’s species begins to grow, spreading further along other archipelagos.
Some scholars are suggesting that Gibby's reign be known as the Age of Lunacy for self-explanatory reasons, while others insist on calling it the Age of the Accretion as that was the event which kickstarted the long dark age. As of right now, though, no one has a name for this new age yet.
Wayne, lead guitarist of Moonage Lobotomy, is declared missing.

Taylor Swift and the closet
The closet is one of the most widely known parts of queer culture, and Taylor has been investing it for so long in her art, so I wanted to draw up a list of the way she has been using it, trying to be as exhaustive as possible, so here is everything I noticed:
I Know Places performance
On the 1989 world tour, for the I Know Places performance, which is probably one of the queerest songs by itself on 1989 and one of the first songs in which Taylor talks about a secret relationship, Taylor decides to perform the song surrounded by closet doors behind which she hides, to avoid the media and protect her relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look What You Made Me Do (part 1: the music video)
Tumblr media
In the Look What You Made Me Do music video, Taylor presents herself as locked up, again. She is in a golden cage that reminds us a lot of the visuals from I Know Places on the 1989 world tour (the cages were swinging in the visuals, and she is even on a swing in the music video). She is dressed in a full orange outfit, which is speculated to be the color of Karma, an album that would’ve been released in 2016 had everything with the West/Kardashian family not happened. It is interesting because it will not be the last time this imagery can also be linked to things that happened in her career against her will, but also because we sometime think of Karma as an album where she could have been more free (gay) than in reputation (this should be taken with a whole spoon of salt, the existence of Karma is, to my knowledge, far from proved, and its content is completely unknown, it’s just a theory).
Ready For It music video
Ready For It, as well as its music video, would deserve a dedicated post seeing how interesting it is in terms of closeting and how it lightens reputation as an album and a lot of what comes after. But I'm just going to say that:
Tumblr media
Here, on the left, the robot naked locked up Taylor is her true self and on the right is her closeted public persona.
This is, to my knowledge, the first time Taylor uses the imagery of the glass closet, in the music video of a song about bearding (if you don't know what I mean, go see the difference between the way Taylor describes “he” in the verses and “you” in the chorus). The music video seems to confirm that the song is about the difference between her public persona (and relationship) and her private one, instead of being a love story (no love interest can be seen in the music video), and it ends with the closeted Taylor being free, and the public persona being destroyed...
So It Goes
"Gold cage, hostage to my feelings" She is trapped in a gold cage (like in the LWYMMD music video), because of her feelings that keep her imprisonned... if that doesn't sound like the closet, I don't know what does honestly.
The Lover era
The closet imagery is almost completely absent from the Lover Era, which fits the timeline: it's the era during which she was supposed to come out.
The only appearance I noticed is in the Lover music video, where her closet is full of yellow clothes, which is mainly significant in the fact that yellow seems to be the color Taylor uses to symbolize closeting now.
Tumblr media
seven
seven is often interpreted (by gaylors) to be about a young gay love ("your braids like a pattern love you to the Moon and to Saturn"). In that regard, the lyrics "I think you should come live with / Me and we can be pirates / Then you won't have to cry / Or hide in the closet" can be understood as a proposition to run away and go live somewhere they could live their love freely.
willow music video
In the willow music video, this moment is incredibly significant
Child Taylor goes through the door and emerges as an adult in a glass closet. There, she immediately knows that she is supposed to start singing, and then, when she tries to join her lover on the other side of the glass, she can't leave and she is stuck in it… I believe that it speaks for itself.
cowboy like me
"And the skeletons in both our closets / Plotted hard to mess this up"
In a song about feeling connection to someone because you recognize them as a part of your group that break the rules ("bandit"), the mention of the closet as something that keeps you from being with them is interesting, I would say.
Look What You Made Me Do part 2: the Eras Tour Performance
Since the beginning of the Eras Tour, the closet/glass closet/imprisonnement imagery is more present than ever, both in the concerts and in the music videos she put out since then.
In the Look What You Made Me Do performance, the imprisonment of Taylor's old selves (in glass closets) is understood widely to be a metaphor of her stolen masters, and it probably is in part her intention. There could be more than one meaning to that idea, even in Taylor's mind and one does not contradict the other. But here specifically, it seems to be confirmed that Taylor didn’t (only) think of that while imagining these visuals, since every single one of her album is present including the ones she has owned since they were released (Lover, folklore, evermore, Midnights):
Tumblr media
(I don't have enough images left but some of the dancers are in Lover and folklore outfits too)
Lavender Haze visuals
Several times, in the visuals of the tour during the performance of Lavender Haze, Taylor is very clearly in a closet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lavender Haze can also be interpreted as being about bearding, that much can be analyzed both from the lyrics and the music video. During the performance (you can check in this video) those visuals appear when she says "no deal the 1950 shit they want from me" and disappear with "i just wanna stay in that lavender haze", I wonder if the closet might be the 1950's shit she doesn't want anymore...
Karma music video
In the Karma music video, there is no reference to a closet per se but Taylor is once again kept locked up, in an hourglass and a light bulb, this time. I don't know if it is significant in a particular way, except that the hourglass appears the first time she says "Karma is my boyfriend" which could mean that it's not going to be her boyfriend for long maybe? I noticed this one without any particular interpretation to be honest, but I didn’t want not to put it here, just in case...
As for the bulbs, they end up exploding...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I Can See You music video
Last but not least since there are two references to the closet in the music video for I Can See You, but first, a few things:
The music video is obviously about her taking back her masters, there is no doubt about that, it is very explicit and it would be stupid of me to try and say that it’s not. But as I said in the part about the Look What You Made Me Do performance, some things can have more than one meaning, and just because there is an obvious way to understand this specific piece of art doesn’t mean that it’s the only one.
Second, here we’ll need to point out that before and/or during the Speak Now era, she dated very publicly Taylor Lautner, who features in the video. Gaylors also believe that she dated Liz Huett, her backing vocalist on the Speak Now tour.
Now, in the music video, we see three people rescuing Taylor from the vault in which she is kept. A woman (Presley Cash) stays in a van, while Joey King joins Taylor Lautner to save Taylor. What is interesting is that the only character that is not, at any point, linked to the lyrics is the man (potential beard). Presley Cash’s character is, more than once, either saying or illustrating the lyrics: “I've been watching you for ages” (she’s always looking inside Taylor’s vault even though it’s not really relevant to what’s happening), she even says “I can see you” at the end. As for Joey King, she is the one keeping quiet when Lautner is loud, she throws her jacket on the floor, and she is quite literally “up against the wall” when she opens the vault… She is the only character linked to the muse for the whole video, and she is the one opening the vault (closet?) for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adding to that, Taylor’s old selves (in this situation, her outfits of the era) are kept in… glass closets, that explode at the end. The thing is, if we follow the (Lover era) failed coming out theory, the way her masters were stolen may have been the reason she didn't come out at the time, so, could it be that Taylor feels like her stolen masters are what keep her from being fully out?

Hello! May I request a ruin daycare attendant with the reader being their creator? Like: reader explores a little of the destroyed plex and in the daycare, eclipse reconizes the reader because an old guest record, the first one they had. And there they have a kind of parent-child reunion
confession? i dont like the dca o: also sorry if this is kinda bad, my inspo is 0 Reunion
The once full Freddz Fazbear’s Pizzaplex now lays in ruins, a forgotten relic of a gone era of happiness. Amidst the wreckage, you, the creator of one of those once beloved animatronics, wandered with a heavy heart. Your memories of laughter and joy within these walls had been replaced with the eerie silence of abandonment.
As you explored the empty corridors and discovered crumbling animatronic remnants, a faint glimmer of hope tugged at your heart. In the far corner of the Plex, hidden beneath layers of debris and decay, was the daycare. It had been a place of wonder, a sanctuary for the youngest visitors.
You cautiously made your way through the wreckage, your footsteps echoing through the silence. The daycare's once vibrant and colorful interior had succumbed to time and neglect, now shrouded in shadows and dust. Broken toys and torn up drawings lay scattered on the floor, a melancholic testament to happier days.
In the ruins, a familiar face caught your eye. Eclipse, the daycare attendant animatronic, stood tall and weathered, but somehow still intact. You approached cautiously, your heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.
"Eclipse," you whispered, your voice trembling. "Do you remember me?"
The animatronic's empty eyes flickered to life, a dim spark of recognition shimmering within. Eclipse had been the first creation you had ever brought to life, your very own masterpiece, even if flawed, and the memories of your shared beginnings flooded back into your mind.
Eclipse's mechanical arms moved slowly, as if trying to grasp the past. Then, with a gentle hum of servos, he nodded.
“Sunshine, it's you! What are you doing here so late, are we having a slumber party!?”
A semblance of a smile played on its cracked, weathered face.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you reached out to touch Eclipse's cold, metal hand. "It's me. I missed you so much."
In that moment, it felt like a parent reuniting with a long-lost child. The bond you had shared in the early days of the Plex had been a special one. Eclipse had been your loyal companion, guiding and entertaining the children who had once filled this place with laughter. He had his problems, sure. The whole Sun and Moon thing was happening but to you he was always loyal and never aggressive.
As you stood there, hand in hand with your creation, you remembered the countless moments of joy and wonder you had brought to the young visitors. You remembered their smiles, their laughter, and their innocent delight. And you remembered Eclipse, who had been there through it all, a somewhat absent guardian of the daycare, “replaced” by Sun and Moon, split in two but now reunited.
Eclipse may have been weathered by time and neglect, but the connection between creator and creation remained unbroken. In the midst of the ruined daycare, you found a glimmer of the past, a cherished memory that had survived the ravages of time.
As you stood there with Eclipse, you knew that even in the face of destruction, there was still hope. The memories of what had once been could never be erased, and in that reunion, you found a sense of closure and the strength to carry on.

Meet Me at Midnight—The Complete Guidebook
So I just had several epiphanies at once…..I think Taylor might’ve given us a guidebook for her entire plan this yr (and possible coming out?) several months in advance w the release of Midnights (very mastermind of her). Looking at the vinyls and bejeweled mv again this becomes evident. I’ll explain (Also please see this excellent analysis as it provides lots of context and evidence that aligns w this theory).
Tumblr media
The moonstone vinyl is obviously related to bejeweled and is a light blue representing the 1989 era. Others have pointed out the numerous 1989 references in the bejeweled mv: rising to the 5th floor, 2013 vsfs aesthetic, lots of light blue, short hair, NYC vibes, her ghosting the prince and living her best single life, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moonstone symbolizes light and hope and new beginnings. These things have been shown symbolically in the recent pap walks. Light and hope: the sunshine rings. New beginnings: 🦋 on the jeans and no beard. There’s also the connection to the feminine: the girl squad. Cyclical change: her returning to the 1989 era w her squad boyfriend-free; the tides, moon, and sun also undergo cyclical change (blood moon lunar eclipse?).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A clock can also be thought to undergo cyclical change and Taylor chose to use this as the main symbol that represents Midnights. Taylor has said multiple times "It's a clock, it can help you tell time" which now I'm thinking means it can literally help you know when she's gonna make certain moves, like dropping the beard and returning to the 1989 era for example. TN posted this during the Midnights promo. The clock is split into 4 quarters. The moonstone/bejeweled vinyl is the first quarter which I believe we have just exited and I'll explain why shortly. This vinyl contains the numbers 12, 1, 2, 3 which could be related to "exile ends in 3...2..."
Tumblr media
Going clockwise we end up in the 2nd quarter—blood moon or glitch. If the 12 hrs represent 12 months, then each vinyl or quarter of the clock would represent approximately 3 months (Jan-March, 1-3 for the moonstone vinyl which adds up bc the toe breakup was said to have happened mid March). I know the pap walks were done in April so this might be more of a rough outline for events. This means a “glitch” would happen roughly April-June…A blood moon represents chaos, disruption, and change, hidden information rising to the surface (gee kinda sounds like what’s happening right now 🧐). The lavender vinyl is also in the 1st quarter and seeing that it’s a song abt bearding it makes sense. But it also seems like this vinyl is supposed to be completely separate from the main 4 vinyls so it could have a different meaning. There are a bunch of great posts analyzing the blood moon/glitch, see here and here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sidenote: More on the bejeweled mv numerology and symbolism—she enters the moonstone vsfs-esque room on the 3rd floor. The clock Taylor’s sitting on is pointed at 3. There’s a ton of speak now easter eggs bc 3rd album. There’s 3 step sisters instead of 2 like in the original Cinderella story. The Queen Pat scene shows multiple motifs we’re all familiar w—angels, lions, a queen/royalty, an eye?? There’s probs a ton I’m missing. But yeah all that to say it seems she’s trying to connect bejeweled/1989 era 2.0 to the number 3 or March and to one leo VS supermodel angel woman. So it’s almost as if KK was still a part of this new 1989 era despite being absent from the pap pics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next vinyl is mahogany which would presumably take place from July-Sept. The last date scheduled for the eras tour is in Aug which would fall in this quarter. Strength and resilience are needed during this time? There have been a ton of exile, 8/3 references lately.
Tumblr media
The last quarter/vinyl is jade green (Oct-Dec). It represents serenity and tranquility, perhaps symbolizing the peaceful acceptance of any ensuing consequences of making a life altering decision? Dec would be the 12th hr on the clock. So could New Years be the “last page” where we finally meet the real Taylor? I mean it is one of the most important midnights of the yr. In that post I mentioned earlier others pointed out how the Cinderella story fits into the general themes of Midnights. I think Taylor keeps using Cinderella imagery bc once the clock strikes “Midnight” on New Years the facade will be gone—“Shred my evening gown” // “Dappled w the flickers of light from the dress I wore at midnight leave it all behind” // “Spring breaks loose the time is near…moments that we stole on begged and borrowed time” // “You know when it’s time to go” // “If you wish to romanticize the woman I became then say you’ll remember me standing in a nice dress.” She’s telling her fans that the Taylor they love is a carefully crafted persona and the real her is not nearly as pretty and will be disillusioning to look at.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, Taylor has really emphasized that she rejects the notion of a picture perfect 1950s life. "She would've made such a lovely bride what a shame she's fucked in the head" // "He wanted a bride I was making my own name" // "Picture perfect shiny family holiday peppermint candy" // "All they keep asking me is if I'm gonna be your bride.” Also think of all the wedding imagery she has used lately. "The bride was willing to risk it all." This video of her in a wedding dress singing champagne problems. The countless speak now easter eggs which would be overkill if she was just simply trying to tease a re-record. "Don't say yes run away now." I think she's saying that she's going to shred her wedding dress and the heteronormative fantasy swifties want for her and burn her house, a symbol of her life’s work, past selves, and closet, to the ground. Bringing it back to the serenity/tranquility symbolism, others pointed out in this post that in the eras tour wildest dreams visuals she looks perfectly content, peacefully sleeping while the world burns around her. She’s finally ready to shatter her glass closet and break free from her cage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jade is also the “Gem Supreme”: king of my heart; “Jewel of Heaven”: angels roll their eyes, no rules in breakable heaven, halo hiding my obsession, etc you get it; stone of the heart: again king of my heart, lover. This vinyl could be related to snow on the beach—“I searched aurora borealis green….your eyes are flying saucers from another planet.” Perhaps a reminder that she’s setting off but not without her muse?
Tumblr media
With all this in mind I think it’d be good to revisit the Midnights prologue.
Tumblr media
Of course this could be completely wrong and if she tours internationally and into next yr then it wouldn’t really make sense to come out yet. It could also be the case that the clock is meant to be read a different way or represent a 2 yr period rather than 1 yr. And maybe sometimes it’s meant to be read backwards instead since there have been some references lately to things being reversed? Idk what do you all think? Please feel free to add onto this !!

What media would u tell someone to get into, if you knew they'd absolutely put the time and effort into reading / watching / listening to all of it?
HYLICS its not for everyone and the vague story and lore might put off many but i absolutely love everything this series has to offer so far. if anyone is looking for a very abstract rpg which heavily relies on handmade clay animation and some of the most interesting character designs ive ever seen i cannot recommend it enough
the first game is pretty short [like 2 hours if you know what youre doing] and if you like the absurd nature of it you will love the second game with its upgraded visuals and animations and music and aaahh so beautiful . and theres also the additional musical pieces expanding the lore such as the theme songs for all the team members ['moonage lobotomy' album] and the post hylics 2 [from what i understand? unless its kinda during h2 and after? correct me if im wrong] story driven album ['absent moon']. also it made it canon that the protagonist's voice is vinny from vinesauce which broke the fandom for like a week
i know mason lindroth is working on a new game [currently known to fans as just 'new hylics' since we arent sure if its a third game in the series or a prequel or a remake of the first game because he redesigned many enemies from h1 for it so idk] and while i understand it will take a long time to create i hope it will come out while im still interested in this series and that it will be as good as hylics 2 or maybe better. whatever you do remember to be respectful to him as a creator this guy is putting out some of the most original game content possible in the current day era

I came home from Christmas shopping before I saw the unfortunate news that Geordie Walker passed away. I was shocked. I told my friend (also a massive Killing Joke fan) about what happened and she, too, felt the same. So had millions of their fans ('gatherers'). That was the overall sentiment because he was a phenomenal guitar player, and no one expected him to go this soon, nor wanted to.
There's many reasons why I thought Pandemonium and Democracy were my two favorite Killing Joke albums. It helped that the first song of theirs I ever came across ("Drug") was from the era. That comes in third. Martin 'Youth' Glover's production values come at a photo-finish second. I found that amusing when Jaz Coleman hated them at first, when I thought that made those albums so amazing otherwise. The #1 reason? Geordie Walker's gargantuan riffs burning everything ablaze in sight. That's totally unmissable.
I'll be honest: I don't usually hang on to anything before Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions; save for a few key singles. Some of my favorite selections (going forward) that I return to religiously is mostly because of Geordie. He gave many Killing Joke songs that overwhelming surge of power that's too big to ignore, and his sound is why 20 of their tracks are on my gym playlist. (I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention Raven as well.) Imagine how charged I get when "Aeon", "Absent Friends", "Mass", "Black Moon Rising", "Mathematics Of Chaos", "Majestic", and "Lords Of Chaos" are amplified to the edge of permanent hearing loss?
His fans and those closest to Geordie say there's no other like him. They're right, so take their word for it. There's no dispute that he's one big reason why Killing Joke is forever staying at my top-five. If you can't get enough of them like myself, there's also The Damage Manual and Murder Inc. to keep his memory going.

What's with Sizz and Smul.... im so curious
Thanks for the question!!! YAAAYYY
It's not too complicated really so I'll explain this to the best of my ability. Oh god I can sense many paragraphs coming
(a little far back before events of Hylics2) Sizzle was originally just a normal Wayne from Waynehouse at this point. They were a little more wacky and spontaneous than the others were, evident by the fact that they decided to sneak out one night. They'd heard tales of Old Wayne's previous adventures and wanted to recreate that same experience for themself.
Nearest by, it was only natural that they stopped by New Muldul first. Most dismissed them for the reason of already knowing their kind, from the house just over yonder. All had this same response except for one resident.
"What a remarkable visitor," Smuldunde remarks, seeing the wayne enter. "I've not seen you, yet I've heard tales from Dedusmuln before their departure. Welcome! You are free to stay as long as you like."
This particularly struck a chord deep inside Sizzle, and not in a bad way at all. Normally when referring to a wayne, most would say "all of you/us", or "one like you/us". Though, being referred to by just "you" felt really good for Sizzle. It felt comfortable. (maybe Wayne Prime can relate to this as well? Who knows)
By this alone, Sizzle was swayed toward wanting to befriend Smuldunde, deciding to stay in New Muldul for a little while longer. They talk together and stroll around town here and there, exploring a bit while getting to know one another.
After about a week of this routine passes, Sizzle says goodbye for now & ventures off on their own for a while. This is around the time that they meet the Sage of Time, the Sage of Life & the Sage of Skulls(bitches I made up) to be mentored in the ways of gestures and magics.
When Sizzle comes back to New Muldul one day, Smuldunde immediately recognized them despite their new attributes. New colors graced their head in coral-like protuberances, making for a unique flair. Sizzle didn't even notice the changes until it was pointed out. Perhaps becoming more attuned with their abilities sprouted these changes? Almost like a second metamorphosis.
Additionally, with this newfound transformation, they figure to have a more independant name, becoming Waynesizzle in reference to an experience they had lying in the sand under the blazing sun, hearing the sound of the warmth hitting their skin, as well as the sand shifting around. (it's also the sound they make when they use their magic)
In a way, they kind of really have Smuldunde to thank, they're the reason they truly wanted to become their own person. and the two become even closer because of that fact.
However, when the point comes when they start to look more like their true self, Sizzle meets someone new. One named Odozeir, of course. I'll cut to the chase, they were far too naïve to think everyone would be as kind as their friend Smuldunde. Taken advantage of, sapped of their abilities to aid in reviving Gibby, tossed into a vault, all of the above was the reason they were deemed missing for potentially more than a decade.
Spending that long in a dark place is terrible enough for anyone, could cause some memories to slip away, cause you to change for the worse. Yet… Smuldunde's kindness stuck with them throughout the years, being in their dreams and daydreams, which always seemed to blur together while being stuck in the vault.
All of the events that take place in Hylics 2 come and go, and by this point, it's now the era of Absent Moon/Hylics 3. The sages that Sizzle trained with have all passed, though their spirits remain. They visit Sizzle in a dream, reminding them of who they are before lending the final bits of their remaining energy to Sizzle in order to break from the prison, and that they do.
They venture out into the world again, saddened to see the state that the world is in now. Mutant visages of their own kind, senselessly attacking civilians and sometimes even each other. It was enough to make them more depressed than they already were.
Sizzle was always on the defense as they explored and searched. Searched for absolutely anyone who wouldn't attack.
A smile hadn't been shed from them for such a long time. That is, until...
Tumblr media
Their mutual happiness was left unsaid, instead choosing to grasp each other tightly as if there was nothing else left to hold onto, tears falling onto each other like rain.
A confused Dedusmuln watches from the background, less baffled about this friendship unknown to them, and more about the fact that Sizzle was a normal wayne...for the most part. More normal than the mutants scattered across the land.
It didn't matter for now. Gaining back a valued ally, Sizzle & Smuldunde alone head to the now-fortified New Muldul as Dedusmuln ventures to regroup with Pongorma.
Lots of questions are exchanged once the two are back home. Any answer was satisfying, because the only thing that mattered was that they're reunited, and now more powerful together.

more lies of P notes!!
Recently I've revisited Collodi's Pinocchio to celebrate Lies of P's release and to mine as much information from it as I can. I did read Pinocchio as a kid and I remember really enjoying it. It's devastating and strange, in the way that oftentimes only children's media can be. There's a lot of cool touches by the game devs that I didn't expect!
Tumblr media
Chestnut hair, blue eyes, and looking as happy and joyful as if it were the Easter holidays.
Tumblr media
Simon Manus - Manus meaning “hand”, and blind in one eye like antonia. (edit: someone mentions this is also an allusion to Simon Magus) Pinocchio biting off the paw/hand of the cat:
Tumblr media
Visually, very similar to Venigni - I wonder if this is the Fox and the Cat.
The Cat goes blind, and The Fox goes lame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honest John is the iteration of the Fox in the Disney 1940 film. Looks similar to Vegnini.
Venigni - you can see in early renders that his name seems to Benigni, and his brooch has a B instead of a v in these "early renders". maybe because of varying korean romanizations, as with “Gepetto”  and “Zepeto”
Venigni from italian Benigni meaning Benign. Still don't trust him (others have pointed out that this is also a little nod to Roberto Benigni who directed a Pinocchio film)
From the interview: (NPC Venigni is said to be the richest person in the game.)
Said to be richest person in the game - like how Honest John feigns his attire? (also: "Director No researched 19th-century clothing when designing and did not incorporate, for example, fasteners that did not exist in that era." super cool!)
Tumblr media
Pinocchio gets into a fight, and Eugene is hit in the crossfire. Narratively speaking, This is Pinocchio learning that his mistakes not only cost himself and his family, but can have innocent bystanders. Eugene is hit with a concussion and taken in somewhere.
Tumblr media
Aweee :) (btw the little annotations aren't mine, looks like someone was studying and marking up a library copy!)
Tumblr media
Blue fairy dies once in the book, "narratively", the cost of failure. I wonder if this will happen in the game.
Tumblr media
I wonder if there’s a “fake” ending like this one. He is supposed to be a real boy the very next day. But once again he is lead astray, one final time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MangiaFuoco (fire-eater) - The furnace
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The snail
Tumblr media
Cricket like a "nightlight in a lamp of transparent china". Neat!
Gemini’s personality, however, is more like the "archetypal" Jiminy Cricket from the Disney Classic Pinocchio. In the original, pinocchio murders him with a mallet. bad kid!
Other things like the stargazer, the star fragments, and moon rocks also seem to take inspiration from the "star theming" of the disney classic (they are AFAIK absent in the original). Astro Boy is another loose adaptation of Pinocchio. Adaptations of Pinocchio influence one another, which then influence even other adaptations.

Darla and Spike, the rarest pair in the polycule. The wonderfully caustic blondes. I think this might be one of the rarest non-crack pairs in the fandom, honestly, though they lived together for at least 20 years. We might not see them interact much with each other on-screen but we know they absolutely DID away from our view. There's so much room to fill in there in that negative space, and with two characters who have such compelling forces of personality.
Here's some of my favourites from what exists.
Warning: Some of these fics are hosted on old archives, warnings may be absent or non-exhaustive. They may contain, amongst other things, noncon and torture and oodles of murders. If you want detailed or specific warnings for a fic, please DM me or ask in the notes.
Sinews of the Heart by icemink - After Angel refuses to turn Darla, she goes looking for another member of her family to save her from the illness that is killing her. Gorgeous. Beautiful characterisation. I would happily read 5 million words more of this if it existed. Rating: Explicit, Era: A:tS Season 2/BtVS Season 5 Fearful Symmetry by icemink - Oh hey more DOES exist. This is the continuation of Sinews of the Heart. Sadly it seems to be a perma-WiP at 15 chapters, but it's still very worth reading. While Sinews is pure Spike/Darla, this one's working towards a Spike/Darla/Angel pairing. Rating: Explicit, Era: A:tS Season 2, Incomplete Lessons on a Ledge by icemink - A fun little smutty romp. Spike's troublemaking leaves Darla and him stranded, however will they pass the time? Rating: Explicit, Era: 1880
Family Reunion by Glassdarkly - Darla was afraid that without a soul she wouldn't be able to love her son. What if she was wrong? Or right, depending on your perspective. I'm beginning to think I'm unable to do a rec list without at least one Glassdarkly fic. Family Reunion is brutal, dark, and enthralling. When this author warns you it's one of their darkfics, you better listen to them, they're a master of the craft, it's a horror tale that will stab you in the gut then twist the blade. The location setting in this tale is one of my absolute favourites, it's so perfectly detailed you feel present there with every sense, it's as much a character as any of the humans or demons. Rating: Explicit, Era: 2007 (mostly) Paternity Suit by Glassdarkly - Did I at least one? Make that a few. This one sees Darla tracking Spike down after The Gift/Heartthrob with a task in mind and hoo boy does it hit right in the soft places. Darla at her ruthlessly cunning bestworst, and Spike at his broken apart inside crumpled up bestworst. Rating: Mature, Era: AU Post-BtVS Season 5 Brief Encounter by Glassdarkly - At a time of change and a final parting of the ways, a long-kept family secret comes to light. A post-war piece that, among other things, answers why Spike was so suspicious of Angel in School Hard in contrast to their time on the submarine. Vividly evocative descriptions and atmosphere as always, fantastic historical detail too. Rating: Mature, Era: 1947
Revenge by DeborahMM - Darla grows tired of Angelus's attentions to Drusilla and decides to take her revenge. Exquisitely naughty and a bit bloody. Rating: Explicit, Era: 1880 or 1881
Giving Him The Moon by Peasant - Okay so this is actually a Fanged Four piece, and the primary ships in it are Angelus/Spike and probably Darla/Angelus, but damn if it doesn't have some of my absolute favourite Darla and fledgling Spike interactions, and it's a lovely take on Darla in particular. It's Spike being forced to learn Fyarl and a nice take on the frustrations of struggling to learn a new language. Rating: Explicit, Era: 1887
Triangles Are Falling by lillianmorgan - A delicious messed up encounter between punk Spike and Farrah-hair Darla that has some gorgeous character voices and a sneaky lil sting in the tail. Rating: Explicit, Era: 1977 Entertainment and Spectacle by lillianmorgan - A double drabble. What Darla sees in William, and what William sees in Darla. There's something so vividly intense about the dynamic Lillian crafts between these two. Rating: Teen+, Era: Victorian Cracking the Code by lillianmorgan - A lovely little moment on the way to the theatre. The language here is just a delight, derring-do indeed! Rating: Teen+, Era: Victorian Raging Against the Dying Light by lillianmorgan - Ah, poor dumb Spike all hopped up and out of his head on Slayer blood and on his most gloriously dumb shit vs Darla at one of her worst moments bound up in loss. Rating: Mature, Era: 1900
Cold Comfort by ash_carpenter - Spike recognises that he and Darla are alike in envy and the craving of attention/affection from the other two, and gives her a little comfort or something akin to it. Bittersweet and beautiful. Rating: Mature, Era: Victorian
Idle Threats Does Not A Greatgrandsire Make by FemailoftheSpecies - Just working something out. Conflict resolution. A lil bit of brutal fun. Rating: Explicit, Era: Victorian Creative Differences by FemailoftheSpecies - William and Darla don't see eye to eye. Darla and Angelus, but it's all about William. A funny lil ficlet, with poetry. Of a sort. Rating: Mature (after a fashion), Era: Victorian
Waiting Room by loraineee - A liminal encounter. Just a conversation in the space between. Brief yet intriguing. Rating: Teen+, Era: Post-B:tVS Season 7, Pre-A:tS Season 5
Decadent by Kate Bolin - Darla deserves worship. Spike is barely worthy. A gorgeous fragment of reverence. Ecstasy and agony. Rating: Mature, Era: Unclear
Static by Foxinator - Another between-seasons piece in the summer following Season 5 of BtVS. Darla's looking for Dru to get some insight into what's happening to her body, but she runs into a grieving Spike instead. Just a moment, a conversation, but it captures the characters at a time so strange and pivotal for each of them. Rating: G, Era: Post-BtVS Season 5, Pre-BtVS Season 6
The Queen by aliceinsunnydale - The Illustrated A to Z Guide of Sex Positions for Women explains The Queen as: Get your subject to kneel at your feet and don't give them permission to rise until they've earned either a knighthood or your royal approval to stay for the night. A delicious pwp in a tailor's shop. Rating: Explicit, Era: Victorian
Sitting Together, Simply Observing by aliceinsunnydale - 'More often than not, when in court, Darla and Spike could be found sitting together, simply observing.' A quiet moment of bonding, quite sweet. Rating: G, Era: Victorian Spike/Darla - Five Times Kissed by aliceinsunnydale - Just as the title says. A nice series of snapshots mapping the changing ways the two see each other. Rating: Mature, Era: Pre-Series (Victorian through 1970s)
Home Sweet Home by Rebcake - When Spike is introduced in School Hard, it's clear he's been in Sunnydale before. Rebcake is a master of drabbles, and this is no exception. Rating: Teen+, Era: 1950s
Lessons from the Lady of the House by joycometh - Darla gives William a sorely needed education in a certain subject. Both delightful and amusing. Poor clueless Will or, rather, poor Drusilla. Rating: Explicit, Era: 1880
A Brighter Shade of Darkness by brutti ma buoni - Spike can learn a lot from Darla. He doesn't always enjoy it. A rather illuminating lil ficlet. Rating: Teen+, Era: 1893
Bloody Unnatural by snickfic - A missing scene, a moment of connection. Warm and caring and quite lovely, in a bittersweet way. Rating: Teen+, Era: BtVS Season 6 A Right Sorry Couple of Vamps by snickfic - Alive and human again, all Darla wants is the brief illusion of freedom, and maybe a beer. Naturally, she's just thrilled when she finds Spike, too...Another one that's quite sweet and caring, in an odd way. Rating: Teen+, Era: AtS Season 2
I'm Not Supposed To Be Like This by spuffyduds - Another missing scene in the summer of Buffy's death and Darla's pregnancy. This one may not be so warm and caring, but dang if it doesn't have some brilliant and funny moments instead. Features the Buffybot, too. Rating: Maure, Era: Post-BtVS Season 5, Pre-BtVS Season 6
The Point by carlyinrome - A neat little drabble. What is the point in William? Rating: Mature, Era: Victorian
Waiting For Alice by thawrecka - He is not afraid. She is not bothered. It is not real. When Spike is dragged over and over to that place, she is there. They cling to each other. Beautiful and bleakly arresting. Rating: Teen+, Era: A:tS Season 5
Vantage Ground by _-SuN-_ - Vivid imagery and lush lyrical language. Darla in the aftermath of her loss, spiralling, as she travels with the two children of the family. Rating: Mature, Era: Victorian
Adult Education by Vampire_Penguin - Darla teaches both her boys a lesson. Darla/Spike with Angelus kinda in the mix or, at least, very much adjacent. Wantonly wicked in the best kind of way. Rating: Mature (pushing Explicit), Era: Victorian
Darla: The Series by dessert_first - Okay but what if Angel Investigations but it was Darla's show instead of Angels, post-NFA instead of an AU, key roles gender-flipped, and yer dead favourites got screen time. Sadly this is a WiP last updated in 2005, but it's worth a read for some awesome moments and a brilliant set-up. Mostly ensemble with a lil Sparla in there. Rating: Explicit (in ch5), Era: Post-A:tS Season 5

"It is useless to discuss whether this leaf is reduced to a set of representations or if it is or should be something more. To exist for it is to be aware of its existence." Jean-Paul Sartre.
Darkness you reach me the night of another sky The pale crest of your hair that embraces my shadow as if it were. Thus without God without sky, vague, imprecise, ruminant I went to sing my couplets to the moon but there was no moon in the night of another sky I went out to uncork bottles and sunsets I left without seeing because the light was not a presence I went out to kiss your lips and I found the frost I thought I was drinking honey from your cup and I found the glass empty I thought you were and not Only the memory… In your eyes I saw a pain that was not of this world In your eyes I wiped away a tear absent from radiance. I went out, I searched, I believed, I dreamed… I dreamed that I dreamed in the night of another sky I dreamed that you dreamed that you embraced my shadow I dreamed that I dreamed without God and without heaven I dreamed that I dreamed of singing to the moon I dreamed of you without light and with lips of ice I dreamed you without dreaming I remembered you without having lived Today I wonder what impossible dream pushes me It pushes me to this dream in which I believe I dream you without having lived If living is the measure of everything I will be the nothing I will be the nothing that dreams of the everything that It was Well, without having lived I remember you without having dreamed I have your image stuck to me but I have your image asleep and confused in a thousand desires I have you and I don't have you I have you at night, I have you without day, I have you without sleep I have you with pain and with rage I have you on a flowery morning swinging my hair I have you with horror for the blood spilled I have loving you, I have you I have you and I don't have you because having you is for you to inhabit my memory And I don't have you and because you live in a dimension that I cannot reach I have you and I don't have you and I refuse to give up on my efforts A commitment that has no borders or footprints to trace I have you because it means crying a dry tear in your name and I don't have you because it is a thousand words to say in your mouth of those who cannot pronounce them.

I missed out on voting for DfO in candor, so here's my 2 cents if you'll accept it: DfO is Boring. Hisashi could be anyone hero/villain/vigilante/civilian/abusive/neglectful/absent/doating/alive/dead/nomu fodder/entirely made up by Inko, anything at all & people pick 120+yrld sociopath Shigariki Sr.? Who had Kurogiri made to take care of Tomura? Waste the infinite narrative potential of Hisashi for discount Darth Vader angst? OfA and its vestiges' drama is more than enough for Candor (and nearly any MHA fic in my bitter opinion), leave DfO for Crack fics.
Tumblr media
Its pretty heavily implied that the timeskip in BNHA when quirks first developed happened during the modern era (since it mentioned human technological developments like going to the moon halted entirely while society adjusted to quirks). So it would be more like 2100s or 2200s after the timeskip. I agree though, the timeskip is probably ~150 years the most from my own timeline I made
Heard loud and clear though: DFO Not Wanted

The routes of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and their differences:
Tumblr media
Route abbreviations in parenthesis are the routes in which what is described is absent.
They just keep getting more and more different, don’t they?
And here is a chart showing the purpose of each route - how Byleth is developed by their relationships with that route’s faction- and how they oppose or intersect with one another.
Tumblr media
Silver Snow is where Byleth’s relationship with Rhea and the Church of Seiros causes them to choose divinity as the reincarnated Sothis, becoming both the achievement of Rhea’s aims and the failure of them at once. Its direct antithesis is Crimson Flower, where Byleth’s relationship with Edelgard and the Adrestrian Empire causes them to choose humanity, defying Rhea and the Church; ultimately losing Sothis’ Crest Stone and all of its power.
Verdant Wind is where Byleth’s relationship with Claude and the Leicester Alliance causes them to choose change, ushering a new era in Fodlan where it is more connected with the outside world and where archaic systems like the Church and the nobility are radically altered. Its direct antithesis is Azure Moon, where Byleth’s relationship with Dimitri and the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus causes them to choose tradition, helping the rightful king retake his throne and thus upholding the Church-sanctioned monarchy and the nobility system.
Where lines are crossed is interesting to note. By choosing divinity in SS, Byleth ends up also being made to choose tradition...in fact, an incredibly far back tradition: Sothis ruling over a united Fodlan. Likewise, by choosing tradition in AM, Byleth ends up being made to choose divinity, becoming the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros after Rhea has to step down.
Similarly, by choosing humanity in CF, Byleth ends up being made to choose change: and a way more radical change to Fodlan than in VW, at that. And by choosing change in VW, Byleth ends up also choosing humanity, their experiences with outsiders and misfits having greatly informed how they now view the world around them and how they rule Fodlan.
(Oh, and Ashen Wolves counts for nothing, by the by. It’s just a fun bonus side story.)
Man, I love Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes as well, but the way Three Houses designed its routes around the way your character is shaped makes it still byfar the superior game.
