Sometimes I forget, with all the big issues in my life, that the little issues make a big difference too. I get so distracted and overwhelmed because usually, I can't do anything about the big issues. But one of the reasons I'm so overwhelmed is usually because I also have to deal with all those little issues and I'm fighting to ignore that discomfort.

But when I focus more on making a difference with the little things, I feel like I'm much more in focus and living my life despite it all. Those little things pile up and even if it seems like such a small thing to change/address/ect, it's still me trying to change things in my life for the better and reminding myself there ARE things I can fix.

So for the rest of y'all, if you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck on an issue you can't seem to fix, try to eliminate or work on some of the smaller problems you deal with.

Clear your plate a little. Maybe you're just giving yourself a little more room to breathe, maybe you're doing that and giving yourself a new perspective on it all. Just like little joys matter, little annoyances do too; be aware of them.

Please Help Us Out With Bills

Currently, I'm virtually unemployed due to health issues and my employer all but refuses to give me short term disability pay because I don't have a diagnosis yet. I'm doing DoorDash as much as I can, which brings in ~$150 a week if that. It leaves my roommate, @kitthekazoo, to cover most of the mutual bills - like rent - virtually on her own. But that does mean she can't pay her own bills (like car and insurance) after paying the second half of our rent this month.

Like I said, I'm doing DoorDash around doctor's appointments and other activities, like school (which is paid for by my employer, who I still technically work for, I'm just on an extended medical leave - it's excused time off, but I don't get paid at all), but that doesn't bring in much. My checking account (where my DD money goes) is negative almost $400 because things keep taking out and every single one of those charges also incurs an insufficient funds fee of $31.

I would need ~$750 just to get positive enough to pay Kit back for my half of this rent payment. Plus I have my own bills to pay - car insurance, credit cards I'm desperately trying to catch up with the payments on, gas so I can keep doing DD, etc.

I know it's a lofty goal, but getting $1k by the end of the month will keep us sane and housed while I navigate my medical issues. Hopefully, after we run a few tests next week, they'll have a better idea of what's going on and when I'll be able to go back to work, and these money issues won't keep coming up...

so, first off, I want to apologize for putting this off for so long. I think it's been a couple of weeks at this point but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, after getting this ask I immediately got really really excited and started outlining what I quickly realized was going to be a monster of an analysis post.

Something that I'll never stop hating is when abled people compare their problems to my physical illness.

I understand that they're problems too - and they deserve to be heard! But don't dismiss my problems for yours. I don't mind if someone needs to vent or complain, but don't take thst opportunity away from me by diminishing my problems when they are very very different.

I have been in pain every single day of my life since I was a young child. It hurts, it sucks, when I'm complaining it's because it's really really fucking bad. And even if it when it's not bad, it's every single day. You simply can't imagine what that feels like if you don't go through it.

You get to complain, but don't take that away from me.

richard stark's the sour lemon score is by far one of the greatest books in the parker series but nothing, and i mean nothing in the world, could have prepared me for somebody like stark also writing one of the most cutting, visceral, hard-hitting portrayals of internalized homophobia out there. there's a lot of talk about his handling of gay characters but for a book written in 1968 (hell, for a book written any time! right now!), this level of introspection and complexity is genuinely revolutionary stuff.

i haven't been able to find any reviews that understand the sentiment put forward here, the weight of it, but a couple do hit on some interesting points

and it's just amazing to see one of the seminal classics of american noir feature gay characters written like this. crazy stuff!
