Irony Poisoning Chapter 4 (Chapter 1)
"Who's there?" Enid squinted against the sudden influx of light from the hallway. She was still only half-awake, but that silhouette was unmistakable. "Wednesday?"
"Yes."
"What are you doing here?"
"You were having a nightmare."
"Oh, my god, I'm sorry. You heard me?"
"I think Uncle Fester heard you down in the dungeons," said Wednesday, sounding almost impressed, "but you don't want to share a bed with him. He still convulses in his sleep."
"Share a- you-"
Wednesday retreated back into the hallway and presumably her room.
She left the door open.
Enid still knocked as she entered Wednesday's room. "Are- Are you sure?"
Wednesday was already lying on her back, arms crossed. Her bed was a single, but she had still managed to turn down exactly half of the covers.
"I would not say something if I did not mean it. Unless I was trying to extract information from a potential killer, and we both know you don't have it in you." After a moment, Wednesday added, "I meant that as an insult."
"I know," said Enid, happily. The bed was so small they couldn't help knocking elbows and hissing at each other's cold feet.
Enid lay on her stomach, arms folded under the pillow. She was normally a stomach-sleeper anyway. It had nothing to do with preserving her new braids.
She turned her head to face Wednesday. "Is the reason you never hug people just because you're afraid of getting visions?"
"No," said Wednesday. "It's because I disapprove of superfluous physical contact."
"But some physical contact is un-superfluous?"
"Not a word."
"Living language."
"Misery."
"Do you ever get visions about me?" asked Enid.
"If I did, would you want to know?"
"No. Yes. No," said Enid. She kicked at Wednesday's feet, which were somehow still cold. Of course they were. "Why is there an octopus painted on your bed?"
"It's a hand-me-up from Pugsley who had a pet octopus named Aristotle," said Wednesday. "As long as we're speaking in non-sequiturs: I couldn't help overhearing your mother mention summer camp during Parents Day at Nevermore. I mean it. I tried. Her voice… carries. Did she take issue with your change of plans?"
"We may have exchanged a few growls."
"I thought she would be pleased that you transformed."
"That's… not the only kind of conversion camp she was threatening to send me to," said Enid, in a voice so small she wished it weren't her own.
Wednesday didn't say anything for a few moments, but Enid was getting better at reading her silences, and this definitely seemed like one of the more homicidal ones.
Enid wasn't worried. Wednesday was a lot of things, but she wasn't a bigot. She hated everyone equally.
"I assume you don't want her dead?" asked Wednesday.
"Not particularly," she answered lightly.
"How do you feel about emancipation? Father has a very good lawyer. Mother made sure of it after what happened with Tully Alford."
"Do I want to know what happened with Tully Alford?" asked Enid.
"Yes, but Uncle Fester tells it best, as long as you keep him on topic. Remember to ask him about Abigail Craven."
"Okay," said Enid, not really understanding but trusting Wednesday enough to file the advice away for future reference.
"You can also talk to me," said Wednesday. "If necessary. I can't promise to respond appropriately, but I can promise to listen. As long as it's not about boy bands."
"My Chemical Romance is not a boy band," said Enid, fully ready to fight Wednesday Addams over something for the first time ever. "Just because they abandoned their spot-color palate for Danger Days does not make their music any less prolific. Also, Gerard Way uses he/they pronouns."
"I stand corrected and humbled," said Wednesday, sounding neither.
“You would love Sweet Revenge.”
“It’s been known to happen.”
“I mean the album,” said Enid. “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Your dad has a record player, or a... phonograph, or something, right? Of course he does. I’ll have my cousin overnight me the album. Luke owes me one. You have simply got to listen to it on vinyl.”
"I will take that under advisement."
"I know you will," said Enid, who couldn't help if it came out a little haughty.
Wednesday's face somehow blanched and darkened at the same time. "What else has my mother told you?"
"Oh, nothing…. Just that you might still have… the snood."
"It returned on its own," Wednesday said stiffly. "Like a monkey's paw."
"You wore it at home."
"There was a funeral."
"Sure there was."
"It's not too late, Enid."
Enid laughed, giddy in the knowledge that she was being threatened by someone truly dangerous who would never lay a hand on her.
Unfortunately.
"So you and Ajax are no longer romantically involved?" asked Wednesday, and Enid thought she was fluent in non-sequiturs as a second language, but...
"Wha- Oh, uh, no. We broke up."
"Do I need to get my staple gun?"
"No, no, no! No. I broke up with him. Because- you know- I'm…"
"You can say it," said Wednesday. "You won't get struck by lightning. Well, in this house, you might, but not because you're gay."
"I prefer queer," said Enid, in that stupid small voice again, but Wednesday was right. No lightning.
"Good girl," said Wednesday, and she had to know that would do something to Enid. "Are you ready to go to bed, or do you want to talk about your dream as well? I know it wasn't about your family."
"How?"
"You were calling out my name in your sleep. I'm flattered that you would have a nightmare about me."
"Not that kind of nightmare."
"Buzzkill," said Wednesday.
"It's okay," said Enid, hiding a yawn in her pillow. "I don't think I'll have any more nightmares now that you're here."
"Now you're just being cruel."

idaravictor: "A Family." Thank you to everyone who joined us to say goodbye on #TURNamc last night. And thank you all for the outpourings of LOVE and well wishes. I know many of you questioned whether or not Abigail made it, and I just want to assure you, as one of our writers @morganicink confirmed last night, that she did (hence the coded letter). I admit, I was just as shocked and horrified as you for a second, as we did shoot a larger ending, including the addition of a little girl to the family, the talented @skyla_ilece, whose beautiful work you saw in that cart. But once I saw that gun... 😉 The story of Abigail's triumph despite the odds that we've carried throughout the series remained true to the end. And here you have it, proof of our happy reunion, on the show and in real life. Aldis Hodge, who had my back at every turn, and Darren Alford who started out no taller than my chest and fully outgrew me in just 4 years. I'm grateful for both of my men and the beautiful reminder that we are, always, stronger together. #TURNamc #Strongertogether #Fin

Wednesday Friday Addams
Tumblr media
Full Name: Wednesday Friday Addams
Age: Verse Dependent, but usually 13 years old.
Appearance:
Eyes: Brown
Skin: White
Hair: Black, usually in two neat braids
Wednesday is usually seen in a black, button down dress with a Peter Pan collar, black stockings and black Victorian boots.
Bio:
In Addams' cartoons, which first appeared in The New Yorker, Wednesday and other members of the family had no names. When the characters were adapted to the 1964 television series, Charles Addams gave her the name "Wednesday", based on the well-known nursery rhyme line, "Wednesday's child is full of woe." In the TV series, her middle name is "Friday". In the Spanish-language version, her name is Miércoles Addams (Spain [Wednesday in Spanish]) or Merlina Addams (Latin America). In the Brazilian version her name is Wandinha (Little Wanda in Portuguese) and in Italy her name is Mercoledì (Wednesday in Italian).
She is the sister of Pugsley, Pugsley Jr., Wednesday Jr., and Pubert, and is the oldest daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams. Wednesday has a close kinship with the family's giant butler Lurch.
In the original Addams Family cartoons illustrated by Charles, Wednesday is a pale, dark-haired, grim-looking little girl who is fascinated with death and macabre. She rarely smiles.
In the original sitcom, Wednesday tends to be a lot happier than in the New Yorker cartoons; she is significantly more sweet-natured, although her favorite hobby is raising spiders; she is also a ballerina. Wednesday's favorite toy is her Marie Antoinette doll, which her brother guillotines (at her request). She is stated to be six years old in the television series' pilot episode. In one episode, shehas several other headless dolls as well. She also paints pictures, including a picture of trees with human heads, and writes a poem dedicated to her favorite pet spider, Homer. Wednesday is deceptively strong; she is able to bring her father down with a judo hold.
She dislikes school, especially the stories they read to them where they slay dragons.
In the 1991 film, she is closer to the original cartoons. She shows sadistic tendencies and a dark personality, and has a deep interest in the Bermuda Triangle and an admiration for her Great Aunt Calpurnia Addams, who was burned as a witch in 1706.
Wednesday plays with her brother Pugsley by shooting an apple in his mouth, before the two of them head off to school. The two of them also play in outside with an antenna during a thunderstorm before they're called inside for the seance.
Wednesday greets Tully and Margaret Alford at the door as they arrive for the seance, helping Margaret get the fingertrap off. She speaks during the seance, calling for the ancestors to help them find Fester, who soon appears.
Wednesday is suspicious of Fester and Dr. Pinder-Schloss, as they claim Fester was in the Bermuda Triangle, and, according to Wednesday, "Nobody gets out of the Bermuda Triangle." She keeps an eye on Fester when he tries to escape his room later that night.
She maintains her suspicions, talking about it with Pugsley as she attempts to electrocute him during their game "Is There a God?" However, she becomes more trusting of him when he helps them with their Shakespeare Performance at school, helping Pugsley choreograph his stabs and giving them bloody fake limbs to wear.
When Fester says he has to leave, the Addamses throw him a party with all their relatives. Morticia sends Wednesday upstairs to fetch Fester, but she overhears him talking with Pinder-Schloss- who is really Abigail Craven- and finds out that Fester is an imposter trying to steal their money. She flees from them and hides in the Mausoleum, where she falls asleep until Gomez finds her. She tells them that Fester is a fake, but they're too late, as Fester has locked them out of the house.
The family has to live in a motel, where Wednesday and Pugsley try to raise money by selling Lemonade, but Wednesday scares away a Girl Scout customer.
Later, when Craven and Tully are thrown from the house, they land in graves dug by the Addams Children, who bury them.
The next Halloween, Wednesday comes downstairs to greet Cousin Itt and Margaret, who asks her what her costume is, as she appears not to have one. She responds, "This is my costume. I'm a homicidal maniac. They look just like everyone else." She later wants Fester to be on her team for "Wake the Dead."

I’M GONNA START EXPLAINING THIS by using one word that comes to mind - or rather, tish’s mind - at the thought of each individual mentioned. and of course, i will progress her thought process to how i think she feels. reminder: this is just my interpretation, other morticia muses may not think the same.  DEBBIE JELLINSKY: UNFORTUNATE. there was a lot of potential in debbie, her cunningly malicious mind manipulated everyone around her with such delicate precision it was difficult not to be envious. was there anger towards the woman? certainly. but there was far more of an allure to her that sparked enough interest, not even morticia could deny it. now, i don’t mean that as an attraction, not physically anyway. mentally, yes. debbie knew what she wanted and she stopped at nothing to get it. never letting another being stand in her way. morticia admired that. respected it. debbie’s entire life was unfortunate, the way her selfish desires reigned heavier than anything else and it was rather unfortunate too that her gluttony would inevitably destroy her. it was a shame, but necessary. the woman would have fit in rather well as an addams, minus the pastels.  ABIGAIL CRAVEN / DR. GRETA PINDER-SCHLOSS: APATHETIC. now, one might wonder if morticia’s opinion of abigail or dr. pinder-schloss were at all similar to her opinion of debbie. the answer is yes. the primary difference, is the uncaring and disrespectful nature in which ms. craven expressed towards her so-called child. regardless of the fact that fester (or gordon) wasn’t her biological son didn’t matter. it was the fact that she had taken him in and cared for him strictly for the use of personal gain and a sense of superiority which is not something morticia could ever stand by. for any addams - as we very well know - family is everything. abigail lost all respect from tish after she bared witness to her true cruelty against fester. the woman was nothing after that.  TULLY ALFORD: WORTHLESS. ironically wednesday’s first word in which she had spoken while referring to tully specifically (again, that is a personal hc). to this day, morticia cannot think of a better word to describe him, even before his betrayal. although he was the addams’ primary accountant, let’s not ignore the fact that he had absolutely no clue where gomez’s vault was beyond the bookcase. he knew there was one, but all matters of detail ended there. gomez may have enjoyed him - though personally i believe more so as a fencing partner considering how bad he was than an actual business associate - morticia on the other hand, did not. however, she tolerated him for gomez’s sake.  MARGARET ALFORD: IGNORANT. don’t get me wrong, morticia actually loves margaret. in fact, she is one of the few reasons as to why tully was ever tolerated. however, considering who she married, ignorant seems an appropriate word to describe the woman. thankfully, she eventually came to her senses in the end but there was never really a moment in which morticia felt any form of ill-will towards her.

The Addams Family (1991)
Tumblr media
You can tell 1991's The Addams Family was hobbled by numerous re-writes during production. It’s too bad. Overall, the film is comically ghoulish, the cast terrific and production top-notch. This comedy is largely successful but flawed.
The aristocratic and macabre Addams family live in their lugubrious mansion, comfortable thanks to a seemingly endless fortune. Father Gomez (Raul Julia) and his beloved wife Morticia (Anjelica Huston) and their two children, Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) fantasize about death while their butler, Lurch (Carel Struycken) cleans and disembodied hand Thing scurries about. When the family's indebted lawyer Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya) arrives at their doorstep with a man claiming to be Gomez’s long-lost brother Fester (Christopher Lloyd), most are overjoyed but they shouldn't be. He’s actually the son of con artist Abigail Craven (Elizabeth Wilson), who's after the Addams’ money.
While Chas Addams’ creations have been the subject of three television series (the latest one following this film’s success) but nonetheless, you wonder going in how a series of one-panel newspaper comics can be stretched to feature-film length. This film’s solution is great. The Addams’ love of disasters, death, and anything creepy make them outcasts. Their nonchalant attitudes towards danger means they're frequently dismissed as idiots or loonies by normies. As the fake Fester conspires to murder and rob the family, they look at his bottle of cyanide and dynamite with amusement. “Did you think we’d be out”? We get to see the outsider look in bewilderment as the spooky family constantly top themselves. The same joke vein is mined over and over, but it works.
The Addams’ house, the makeup, and costumes are all terrific. Standouts include young Christina Ricci - destined to be forever imitated by women who love moonlight more than daylight - , Raul Julia as the eccentric patriarch who can never resist flooding with wife with affection and Anjelica Huston who plays her part with the kind of smoldering sexiness that’ll awaken something in many viewers. Christopher Lloyd is fine but his character also highlights the story’s flaws. The plot is often disjointed. Tully Alford and Abigail Craven should’ve been combined into one character. There’s no need for two villains. Similarly, the arc Tully’s wife goes through is so similar to George/Fester’s she becomes unnecessary. A tighter plot would’ve meant more time spent on either the Addams - some of which get little screen time - or expanding on the conclusion, which hastily handwaves away what should be a big reveal with a couple of sentences.
Overall, The Addams Family is fun to visit as something you catch on TV on a weekend afternoon. It’s got memorable moments, looks great and will make you laugh. If you do see it, I advise changing the channel as soon as the credits start rolling unless you want to experience something truly horrific: an Addams family-themed song by MC Hammer. Now THAT’S bad. (On DVD, October 16, 2019)

Kenapa begitu? Well, gimana enggak?
“Jangan menyiksa dirimu, Gomez. Itu tugasku.”
Morticia juga nyantai-nyantai aja waktu disandera sama Fester Addams (Christopher Lloyd) dan Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya). Kalau wanita lain mungkin udah jerit-jerit kesakitan pas tangannya dicengkeram keras pake sebuah alat.
Aku udah nonton film keduanya di HBO Go, tapi sekarang udah dihapus. Kadang muncul kadang enggak.

| A Família Addams - Comédia/1991

Opinion:
Personally I don't really understand how IMDb have given this movie a rating of only 6.8. I can totally see how it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea and it did have a lot to live up to after the previously shown Tv show that aired from 1964-1966 but I do believe it is better than a 6.8.
This movie has been a personal favourite of mine growing up so it holds a special place In my heart but even without that I still think this is a funny movie and very much worth the watch. From the love and admiration that Gomez and Morticia show for each other, the sibling rivalry of Wednesday and Pugsley or simply the comedic factor of Thing walking around just everything about this movie is a pleasure to watch.
Personal Rating: 8.9
