Takahiro & Fox's house - WIP

This is what I've got so far. I usually don't do the landscaping until the very end, but for some reason I added some at this stage.
I haven't started the inside yet, but it's going to have the usual kitchen, dining room, & living room downstairs, kids' bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor, and Fox & Taka's bedroom, Fox's studio, a bathroom and a study on the third floor. I might do a partial basement, just so they'll have a logical place for the laundry room (they'll have at least 3 kids, so they'll need it lol), but I haven't decided how I'm going to approach that yet.
Unfortunately, I probably won't get to do any more work on it until next week, as I'll be travelling this weekend, but hopefully I'll be able to get back to it soon.
As always, I'll do a house tour when it's ready.

there were only a few reasons why you were always hesitant to visit back home in abbottsford. the weather just didn't compare to where you had moved to, all of your friends had moved away from their once hometown, and every time you seemed to be home, tyson jost was too.
there wasn't anything wrong with tyson, actually. he was great, one of the best things that came from your hometown. one of the greater memories. but he was also a reason why you left. he was your high school sweetheart, he was your first love and you swore one day that he would be your only love.
but fate had other things planned. he chose hockey over you, and it was something that you were preparing yourself for. it was obvious, he was one of those rare talents that couldn't be wasted. he took to the nhl and never looked back.
but now you're home for christmas break and word has it that tyson jost is too. it was your mission over these next few days to avoid him as much as possible, but you knew that it was going to be quite hard since you lived in the neighborhoods and that your families frequented the same stores.
so it was only a matter of time before you ran into each other. and that you did. at the grocery store, late at night, right in front of the cereal. he talked you up just like he knew how, catching up with you and seeing where you were in life. he asked about your dog, your job, where you lived and how you liked it.
that was always one thing you liked about tyson, he always asked about others before he talked about himself. sure, he could talk up a storm about himself, but he liked to ask about others first.
it was like you were seventeen again, staring up into those honey eyes. you felt your knees buckle a couple times as you leaned against your cart, your lips quiver and your hands get clammy. he still had that same effect on you.
"hey, what are you doing after christmas?" tyson asked you before he had to leave. "you're not leaving right after, are you?"
"no, no i'm leaving on the thirtieth. why?"
he cleared his throat, "well i'd like to take you to coffee, if you want. get more into a conversation there than we can here of course." tyson gave you a warm smile which could make any person melt.
"yeah, yeah i'd like that. just text me when, if you still have my number." tyson checked to make sure that he still had your information before walking off. you said your goodbyes and you continued shopping, grabbing a few last minute items for your mom for christmas dinner.
it was right there, in front of the chex mix when you realized that he still had the same charming and witty effect on you. it made you smile inside, but also nervous. you didn't want to fall in love with him and end up just having to leave him all over again.
you'd go through with the coffee date, but you were going to try your absolute hardest to not fall in love. you didn't want to go through another four to five more years wondering if you had made the wrong decision or not.

The Scottish poet and writer Walter Scott was born in  in a small third floor flat in College Wynd in Edinburgh’s Old Town.on August 15th 1771.
Scott spent his childhood years in Edinburgh, with occasional extended visits to his grandfather Robert Scott's farm in Tweeddale in the Borders, where he became versed in his family's history, and in Borders culture in general. He attended the famed Edinburgh High School, and then followed in his father's wake by taking a law degree at Edinburgh University, being called to the Bar in 1792. 
At 25 he began writing, first translating works from German then moving on to poetry. In 1797 he married the daughter of a French refugee, Charlotte Carpenter, with whom he had four children. Five years later, he published a three-volume set of collected Scottish ballads, The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Borders. This was an early indicator of his interest in Scotland and history from a literary standpoint.
With those writings, Scott stitched together the forgotten myths and legends of Scotland’s messy past, reexamining what his contemporaries saw as barbaric and transforming it into a succession of adventurous tales and fearless warriors. Through his works, Sir Walter Scott crafted a venerable and distinct national identity for the Scottish people.
From Abbottsford, Scott composed the 27 novels of the Waverley series, the story of an English soldier turned Jacobite who fought for the lost cause in the Highlands. By the end of the 18th Century, Scotland was the most literate society in Europe, and Scott’s works consistently broke sales records.
Though he saw significant commercial success during his lifetime, the crash of the London stock market in 1825 devastated Scott, leaving him with crippling debt. A year later Charlotte died, though it is not clear from what, leaving Scott widowed. His health began to fail shortly thereafter. In 1829, Scott suffered a stroke, and in 1832 he contracted typhus and died at home in Abbotsford.

Caroline: Thank you! I learned it all from Yuri.
Victor: Well, that must mean Yuri is an excellent teacher.
Caroline: Yup! You and Yuri both are. So is Uncle Leo, and also my teacher at school. Oh, and my riding instructor. She said I have, um… an affinity with horses. I think that means horses really like me.
Victor: Yes, that’s exactly what it means.
Caroline: Yay! That’s a good thing, ‘cause I really like horses too. Some day I’m going to have my own. You know, when I grow up and get a lot of money.
Victor: Oh? What kind of job are you going to do to earn a lot of money?
Caroline: I think a math teacher or a baker. Or maybe a superhero. Or maybe me and Forest could make books together like Yuri and Mr. Abbottsford. I could write the stories and Forest could draw the pictures.
Victor: You know what? I think you and Forest could do that before you grow up if you wanted to. It sounds like a lot of fun.
Caroline: Would we get famous?
Victor: Maybe.
Caroline: As famous as Santa?
Victor: I don’t think anyone else could be that famous.
Caroline: Hmm... probably not.
Victor: Do you think your friend Forest would like to be famous?
Caroline: I don't know. He's kinda shy. But, I want to be famous. I want people to see me and say, 'We know that girl. She's Caroline. She's super smart and awesome, and we love her!'

Caroline: I don't want to go to bed. I'm not even tired.
Victor: If you don't want to sleep, that's okay. You can play quietly in your room until you're sleepy if you want, but no iPad, okay? And I need you to stay in your room unless you have to go to the bathroom.
Caroline: Or if there's an emergency?
Victor: If there's an emergency, Yuri or I will come and get you.
Caroline: Okay. Can you read me a story?
Victor: Sure, and I'll come down to check on you before I leave for work, to see if you're sleeping or not.
Caroline: You have to work tonight?
Victor: Yeah, but I'll be back in time for breakfast and presents.

Victor: I promise. You and Yuri can have some nice tea waiting for me when I get home, and then I'll cook you a fabulous Christmas breakfast. Then we can see what Santa brought for you. How does that sound?
Caroline: Good, but... Victor?
Victor: Yeah?
Caroline: Does Santa know how to find kids who are in the hospital at Christmas?
Victor: Of course he does. All of us nurses and the doctors and other staff decorate our unit with lots of holiday stuff, and we even have a Christmas tree in the family room. When Santa flies past the hospital and sees all the holiday lights, he stops and brings something special for everyone.
Caroline: And you're going to take care of all the kids who can't be home for Christmas, right?
Victor: Yes. I always do the very best I can to make sure everyone's as comfortable as possible. Don't worry.
Caroline: Good. You're the best ever.

Fox William Abbottsford, B.A., MSW, RSW
Fox likes seeing his degrees and professional designation after his name. It reminds him of what he’s accomplished.
This is the face of a man who’s absolutely content with his situation right now. 💜
His husband and kids put a smile on his face and in his heart every day. It’s not only because he loves them and is proud of them, but also because his family is the fulfillment of a dream for him. He has everything he ever wanted, and he knows he’ll never stop being grateful for that.
Fox has come a long way in the past ten years of his life. When he thinks back on it, it’s as if he barely recognizes the scared, frustrated and very fragile twenty-five year old who ran away to Japan in an attempt to “discover himself”. He hadn’t even known what he’d meant by that when he left home, but after only a short time in Mt. Komorebi, he actually did begin to discover who he truly was and who he wanted to become.
It took a lot of hard work to improve himself, to become more independent, brave and resilient, but he did it. He knows he’s still a work in progress, but the same friends who helped him start on his journey of emotional and psychological healing are still supporting him and loving him and helping him grow. (One in particular loves him more each day).
Now, at thirty-five, he’s confident in saying he knows exactly who he is. He’s a husband, father, social worker, artist, and fully-integrated member of his community. He’s doing things his younger self would’ve never even dreamed of doing, and he’s proud of himself for that.
Things may not always be perfect all the time, but he can certainly say things are good nevertheless, and he is happy.

"So, that's it. That's what happened."
Taka and Fox are lying on the bed in Taka’s old room, and Fox has just finished explaining what had transpired between him and his father the previous night.
They’d finished a huge lunch not too long ago, and they had told Taka’s parents that they were going to take a nap. With his belly full, Taka is even more drowsy than he’d been earlier, and he can tell Fox is tired as well. Neither of them wanted to close their eyes until Fox had a chance to tell Taka what had brought about his sudden change in attitude toward his parents, though, and at this point, they’re both fighting sleep at least a little bit.
Taka is astonished by what Fox has just told him. Maybe he shouldn’t be, considering how Mr. Abbottsford had behaved around him, but he still finds Mr. Abbottsford’s response to his and Fox’s possible relationship shocking.
By contrast, when Taka was thirteen and had told his own father that he thought he liked boys as well as girls, Papa had barely reacted at all. He’d just smiled and said that the most important thing about any person Taka loved would not be their sex or gender; it would be how much they showed their care and respect for him, and how much he cared for them and respected them in return.
That had made Taka feel safe and reassured about bringing his date home to meet his family, the first time another boy asked him out. Since those early dates with boys in high school, he’s only dated women, but clearly his parents’ viewpoint about his potential partners has not changed. He does currently have a boy in his room, and nobody has so much as batted an eyelash over the fact.
He highly doubts it’d be anything like that if Fox had ever brought a boy home to his family’s house. The drama, he suspects, would be over the top, particularly from Mr. Abbottsford.
“I guess it’s not me,” Taka says. “He don’t like every boys.”
“No, not every boy. Just any boys I happen to like, apparently.”
“So, it is me?”
“Yeah,” Fox says. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry. You got no control for what he thinks. Anyway, you said you don’t worry about it any more.”
“I’m trying not to,” Fox says. “I don’t know. Maybe I should’ve realized that’s how he’d react. I mean, he’s not noted for being the most tolerant person, but as far as I was concerned, the issue never came up before.”
“He didn’t know you liked boys before me?”
“No, but I didn’t know I liked boys before you, either.”
“Not any boys ever?”
“Not any boys ever,” Fox says. “Before you, I was positive I only liked girls.”
“I was the magic for you, obviously.”
“Anybody ever tell you that you’re amazingly self-assured?”
“That means I know I’m awesome?”
Fox laughs out loud. “Yes, Takahiro, that’s exactly what it means. I wish I had half as much self-confidence as you.”
“Maybe you will,” Taka tells him. “Now you stopped listening to every opinions from your father, you can get your own. You can have your own ideas and learn to trust yourself.”
“Easier said then done.”
“I know, but you practice and you get better. Just start with easy stuff.”
“Like what?” Fox asks.
“Anything,” Taka says. “Anything you’re really sure about, like nobody could change your mind.”
Fox seems to think about it for a second, and then he says, “Art. I love making art, and I know I’m good at it.”
“You got self-confidence about your art.”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“No guess,” Taka says. “You’re really sure?”
“Okay. Yes, I am really sure. I love art and I’m good at it.”
“Remember how that feels,” Taka says. “When you feel like that, it’s confidence. If you recognize that about stuff you already know, it's easier to make a decision about other stuff." He's annoyed that he doesn't have enough fluency in English to communicate his ideas effectively but, determined to get his point across, he presses on. "Like, if you have to make a decision, you choose the thing where you got the confidence feeling. Understand?"
Fox is quiet for a while, evidently taking all of this in. Taka doesn’t know if he understands or not, and whether the problem is his own pitiful English, or Fox’s severe lack of experience in the area of personal choice.
Taka can’t imagine being brought up in a household where practically everything had to be decided for him or approved by someone, where every thought and word and action were subject to an impossibly comprehensive set of rules. Perhaps Mama and Papa had been too lenient with him and Aiko, but he thinks he’d rather fly too soon and fall into the safety net his parents offered than to never be allowed to test his wings at all.
“I think I get it,” Fox says at last. “You’re saying I need to establish a baseline. Like, I need to figure out what I already know and believe, and make decisions based on that."
"Yeah," Taka says. "Maybe it's simple. Like, you don't buy a red shirt. You buy a blue shirt because you know you like blue. Other times... not so simple. But, you practice with the small choices."
"Small choices like what colour shirt to buy?"
"Right," Taka says. "Be sure about the small choices, and then in the future the big stuff would get easier."
"That actually makes a lot of sense," Fox says. "Thanks."
"Free advice, any time," Taka says, and grins at him.
"I'll remember that."
"I promise, everything gets better. You're not alone now. I help you, and my family helps too."
"It's funny, you know," Fox says. "Sometimes you can be surrounded by people and still feel like you're alone. And then, one new person comes along, and all of a sudden everything changes.
Taka has to concede the truth in that. Unlike Fox, he's never felt alone, but he was starting to feel lonely, and one new person in his life has made a considerable change. The last thing he'd expected to find while walking his dog last weekend was a new friend, yet here they are, stretched out side-by-side in trusting, easy companionship. Taka feels as if they've known each other for a lot longer than a week, and he considers whether this might still be the distorted perception of reality that comes from being in a crisis situation, as Seiji had told him, or if perhaps it's destiny after all.
Taka doesn't think of himself as an impulsive person but, gazing at Fox over the tiny distance between them them, he has the sudden desire to hug him. Not a quick little hug like when they'd been waiting for the elevator at the hospital, but something more substantial. He'd liked the weight of Fox's head on his shoulder for the brief moment it'd rested there, and he wants to experience that again.
He reaches across the space that separates them, and curls his fingers around Fox's hand. He's happy when Fox squeezes his fingers gently in return.
"You want a hug?" he asks. He wonders if it's a weird question, but he doesn't want to assume anything. "Um... like, the proper kind?"
Fox stares at him for a protracted moment, and Taka can't quite interpret his expression. He seems somewhat incredulous as he says, "Are you... are you trying to ask me if I want to cuddle?"
"No," Taka says. "I mean... maybe yes? Not like boyfriends or something, but like..." He searches his mind in frustration for the word he wants, to no avail. Ultimately, he settles for, "Just like... humans."
To his relief and surprise, Fox smiles. "Yes," he says. 'I would like that."
The position they end up in is less of a cuddle and more of a sprawl, but Taka is absolutely fine with it. He's propped against the pillows, and Fox is lying diagonally across the bed, leaning on him with the back of his head on Taka's chest. Fox is bigger than him and he's heavier than Taka anticipated, but this doesn't bother him. There's something oddly calming about the weight of another person resting on him, and he finds that he likes it even more than he'd predicted he would.
"Comfortable?" Taka asks.
"Mm-hmm,” Fox replies. “You?"
"Yes."
"Your parents would be okay with this, right? If they knew this is what we're doing..."
"What we're doing?" Taka says. "Nothing. Anyway, we're twenty-five. We do what we want."
"It's not nothing to me," Fox says quietly.
"What do you mean?"
"Nobody has ever... This past week, you've touched me and hugged me and held my hand more than all the other people in my life combined, outside of my family. It's like people don't want to get close to me. I'm just..." He doesn't finish the sentence. He makes a little noise that's half sigh and half moan, and whispers, "Sorry."
Taka leans forward a bit, wraps his arms around Fox and rests his cheek against his head. "It's okay," he says. "You're not 'just' anything. You're a lot of something, and you're beautiful, and not every people don't want to get close to you. I want to."
He has no clue whether or not he's making sense, but Fox relaxes in his arms, so he guesses he must be doing okay.
"A lot of something," Fox repeats. "I... I've never thought of myself like that."
"Please start trying to," Taka says. "You got so much good stuff you could love yourself and be proud of yourself about. That's self-confidence, too."
"Seems like I have a lot to learn about self-confidence."
"You can learn."
"I guess."
"No. No guess, remember?"
"You're going to keep giving me a hard time about this, aren't you?"
"No, not a hard time," Taka says. "If it's too hard, you tell me, okay? I just do it because I don't want you to think you're not good enough. Some people don't want other people to get a lot of confidence, because when you got confidence, you're not scared of everything in life, and it's harder for them to make you do what they want instead of what you want."
"Jin told me that too," Fox says. "He said if I spend all my time worrying and being afraid of everything, I'll miss a lot of opportunities."
"Jin is right."
"He said it's going to be really hard."
"He's right about that too," Taka agrees. "But, if it's too hard, you stop and rest. Maybe something too hard today isn't too hard tomorrow. Nobody thinks you can change everything about you right away, and nobody expect you to be perfect. Sometimes we fail and sometimes we get stuff wrong. That doesn't matter. We just have to not stop trying."
"I wish somebody had told me that a long time ago,” Fox says.
"I wish too, but it's not too late," Taka says. "You still got a lot of time."
They both fall silent for a while, and they settle back into their original position. Taka strokes Fox's hair idly, which Fox seems to like, judging by his half-closed eyes and the soft smile on his face.
Taka can barely keep his own eyes open. It'd probably be wise to lie down properly and go to sleep, he thinks, but he doesn't want to move.
He's on the very threshold of sleep when he hears Fox say his name.
"Takahiro?"
"Hmm...?" he murmurs.
"Thank you for rescuing me," Fox says.
"I couldn't leave you on the mountain."
"I don't mean just on the mountain."
Taka is about to say that he'd do the same for anyone, but in a burst of clarity, it occurs to him that he wouldn't. Of course he'd do whatever he could to make sure the person was all right, but he realizes that if it'd been anyone other than Fox, he may not have become involved so fully after the fact. Someone else may not have reached all the way to the center of his heart like Fox has.
He's willing to admit that both his mother and Seiji may have been correct about the how an emergency can alter the way someone thinks and feels, but the further away he moves from that day on the mountain, the more certain he is that his feelings aren't just an extreme emotional reaction to stress. Fox awakens something in him that no one else ever has. He makes him feel needed, fulfills his desire to nurture and support and protect.
"I already told you, I never stop rescuing you," he says.
"Some day, I'll find a way to make it up to you. Eventually, I'll be stronger and I won't be so useless, and—"
"Shh..." Taka silences him gently. He lets his hand slide off Fox's hair and down to the side of his face. "You're enough, Fox."
"But—"
"You'll get stronger, but I want you to do it for you, not because you think you have to do something for me."
"What if I want to do something for you?"
"Then, some day you can, when you're ready."
"When do you think that'll be?"
"I don't know," Taka says. "All I know is, when you're ready, you don't have to ask if you're ready. You'll have all the self-confidence then, and you'll just know."
"You really believe I can do this, don't you?"
"Yes, I do," Taka says. "You're a camellia."
Fox shifts slightly and tries to angle his gaze up at him. "What?"
"They're survivors. That's what you told me on the mountain. Before you, I never thought about camellias like that, but I think you're right. Every other flowers stop growing in the winter because it's too hard, but sometimes you find camellias in bloom when they got snow on them. So, life is hard, but you still can bloom even when it’s late in the year and you got some snow on you."
"Be like a camellia," Fox says. "You know, I've always loved them, but I think I like them even more now."
"Good," Taka says. "Don't forget, okay? Some day, everyone could see how bright and beautiful you grew."
"Even with snow on me?"
"Especially with snow on you," Taka says. "You know, the snow is what makes the colour stand out."
