Miles stood there, gripping his arm, unsure of how to respond. It should be all over now, shouldn’t it? Kristoph’s plans had been laid bare. Phoenix’s innocence should be proven without a shadow of a doubt. This was where it was all headed, wasn’t it?

“It was a long fight to get here,” Miles said quietly.

“Yeah,” Phoenix croaked.

He should do something, shouldn’t he? Phoenix was always there for him when Miles needed him. But Phoenix always just knew intuitively what to do, didn’t he? Miles was at a loss, as always.

He frowned, carefully seating himself beside Phoenix on the old couch. He should offer words of encouragement, perhaps. “Wright—”

Suddenly there were arms around him. Miles jumped, turning to find Phoenix suddenly clinging to him, burying his face in Miles’s shoulder. It took him a few moments to process, before he scrambled to at least put an arm around Phoenix. Phoenix took a deep, shuddering breath, hands trembling as his fingers dug into the back of Miles’s suit jacket.

“I cannot say if it is truly over,” Miles said quietly, “but I will certainly continue down this path with you until it is. If you…If you want me to, that is.”

“Yeah,” Phoenix said with a weak chuckle. “Yeah, that’d be…nice.”

Miles nodded. Was a hug supposed to last so long? For a split second he considered checking his watch, but he had a feeling that would come off as rude.

“Heh…” Finally, Phoenix picked up his head, ducking away almost bashfully. “Thanks, Edgeworth. I…needed that.”

“Erm, yes, anytime,” Miles replied, finally drawing his arms away to fold them across his chest. Though perhaps a warning next time would be nice.

Phoenix sighed, standing up. “Well. I should go meet up with the kids in the defendant’s lobby, huh?”

“Certainly.” He watched as Phoenix made his way from the room. Still tired, but with just the slightest hint of that Phoenix Wright gleam in his eye.

I felt like posting pictures of an older bind I made (I think ultimately I'll put up all my works in my ficbinding tag). This isn't my first ficbinding, but if I remember correctly it's the story that inspired me to start bookbinding. I trained a little before I did this one.

The fic: Black Sails, silverflint, rated E, 138k This is a modern AU (often called Break Up AU) following James Flint and John Silver as they meet in New York city and embark on an extremely complicated relationship. I don't want to say too much, because I loved reading it month to month and experiencing it without spoilers. The fic is structured around two timelines a year apart, showing how we got where we got, and what's happening now. I'm explaining it very badly, but it's a treasure of writing and I can't believe Jay managed to wrangle the two timelines writing month to month. As always with Jay, the character studies and smut are off the charts good. That fic is a jewel, it's full of meaning and impressively crafted.

I don't usually read modern AUs and I read very little Black Sails fanfic, but I think this is a must-read in the fandom.

The bind: This was supposed to be A5 in format, but I cut the covers smaller by accident, so it's a little smaller. I had to trim the book and as you can see from my bandaged finger, I learned a valuable lesson about that. This was my first time using bookcloth, this one is sort of varnished, that's why it shines. I chose purple for the cover and headbands because it's Jay's color (and one of my favorites). I'm very happy with how well it creased near the spine, it's well-defined. And the book corners are the most modern I could find (I mean most of the ones I have are flowery and it didn't fit the mood of the fic).

Overall, I'm very happy with this one!

Spoilers for the REWRITE, obv, but if you do read through, please let me know what you think (good or bad, I won't be hurt I promise)

*please note that fae are not immortal in the rewrite and each current HL is either the child or grandchild of the ruler who was alive during the War

*also, pre- Amarantha's rule, the Courts were ruled by Kings and Queens, during her rule they call themselves HLs but their heirs are still called Princes and Princesses

*if I use the word Aspect and you either can't remember or have never seen me explain the REWRITE lore, just know it's basically a magical saint kinda

I'll add the map at the end because I'm shy and because it's very chaotic - no one is surprised, just know that I can't draw lol

Seasonal Courts

Spring

Spring has two rivers that start on each end of the continent, Lixus and Neda, and they intercept and form an island. This site is holy to the Spring Court and it's where they hold Rites like Calanmai

Tamlin is the only son of Prince Lachlan and Lady Roisin.

During the build up to the War, the elderly King Iain didn't want to pick a side but when Lachlan saw that Jurian was basically at their border, he challenged his father to an ancient Spring Rite in the form of a duel and won

Lachlan bargained with Amarantha because he believed her to be an Aspect, giving up a drop of his power, and relinquishing his title.

Tamlin did not share his father's beliefs.

Spring remains the only court in open rebellion.

Autumn

During the war Autumn was ruled by King Sebastian Vanserra

He died in battle defending the humans but Autumn suffered severe casualties, their armies were in disarray and the King's heir was just shy of adulthood

So an upstart lower noble and a brilliant tactician named Beron stepped in, rallied the armies to retreat, convinced Princess Delphine to bargain with Amarantha (certain they couldn't win against her) and became regent

Delphine would bear 5 sons though only 3 are still alive: Eris, Marcel and Lucien

She holds court for the nobility from Vancour, the Forest House, while Marcel oversees things like trade from the city of Ambreville.

Beron and Eris are both UtM

Summer

Summer and the UnderSea share the Isle of Adriata as a capital

During the war it was ruled by Queen Ceto who gave birth to the twins, Proteus and Nereus.

When Proteus realised and admitted he couldn't bow to Amarantha, even to save his people, he gave up his crown and became a commoner.

Prince Nereus fathered the twins, Cresseida and Varian but when he died, the power did not come to them

Instead it went to a young, half-merling man. The son of Proteus.

Winter

The young king of Winter went against his queen-mother's advice and bargained with Amarantha but while her son was away, Queen Aurora sunk the heart of the Court under the ice and turned the surface into a desolate tundra, leaving only the boarders habitable by anyone not born to Winter

The stubborn young king erected a city called Konigshaven and ruled from there

UtM, Winter is represented by the knight, Kallias who maintains that there is no way to force the hidden Court to the surface as no one is strong enough to challenge Queen Aurora

In reality, Aurora has been dead for decades and it is her granddaughter, High Lady Viviane who maintains the Frost

Kallias fought and won the honour to be her (secret) champion

*both Tarquin and Viviane have white hair because they are half merling but the trait is not universal in their courts

im not even the biggest fan of agent 4 but i wish we got more from them. they're literally the one agent that hardly gets ANYTHING but crumbs and it sucks. i know that it is partially my own fault (and others) for hyping ourselves up and immediately jumping to the conclusion that 4 would be present when there was nothing more than the silhouette that looked like them with the official art. it's near that the copy bot takes the hairstyle from your a4 if you have a save slot from s2. we get lil crumbs and it's like ok...thanks...

He would help injured sinners so they were in his debt, forcing them to either work for him as medical staff or as a test patient. His section was a massive hospital building and grounds, wasn't gigantic but it was large and infamous.

How he collected souls

He would send teams of nurses and lower ranking doctors to scout out sinners or imps after extermination day and treat them in his hospital. Then if they got better, he would force the sinner to pay up with their service through a role in his hospital either permanent patient or medical staff. Had connections with (at the time) a small county of Cannibal town to offer them dead bodies in exchange for help and deals.

Personality

Pompous, inquisitive, medically adventurous, risk taker, apathetic to most, soft spot for young sinners, reserved, composed, reasonable, firm. (Basic personality)

Looks

A round headed figure with three eyes all on one side, his left eye being an X to hint at his death, long doctors coat that doubles as a face mask, rubber protective gloves, horns petruding from the side of his head like a bulls, a red skull with orange eyes which was how his organisation was recognised.

His appearance came from how his patients would draw him as they were dying and hallucinating him.

Knew of Zestial and was acquainted before being overthrown.

Had tried to treat Alastor as a patient to force him to work which resulted in his demise.

His relationship with the public: they feared the doctor as he was known to turn people you knew into a form of their former selves if working for him while there were only rumours about his patients. Reports from lurking sinners say his staff were found dumping sinners near the cannibals residence but never confirmed. Lives as a myth now to most sinners.

What is this zine about?

Tea, Toast & Ghosts is a character- and ship-neutral celebration of the Lockwood & Co fandom, meaning you can submit both gen and ship-related ideas. It is also open to both book and show canon, meaning there will be spoilers for show-only fans. 

This issue’s theme will be:

“What’s your favorite part of Lockwood & Co.?” with a twist. We challenge you to frame your piece as something you might see in one of the gossip magazines Lockwood loves to read in his free time.

What will the format of this zine be in?

This zine will be made available as a free digital PDF, set in single-page, portrait A4 pages. We will also have a text-only accessible version made available for blind and low-vision fans.

What will be the rating for this zine?

This zine will be SFW, and will allow submissions rated from G up to PG-13.

Where can I apply?

Applications are open until 21st August. Our schedule can be found here.

We ask that you include three proposals for your piece in your application, so that we can see how well it goes with the zine concept, and to make sure there aren’t too many of the same ideas among different contributors. We will confirm the idea proposals with applicants only after they have been accepted as a zine contributor so these do not need to be final.

Who can apply?

Anyone interested, regardless of previous experience in zines or other related projects, may apply as a contributor.

I have only read the Lockwood & Co books / only watched the TV series. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can. However, we expect that there will be spoilers for both the books and show in the zine. We recommend that you complete both series before applying.

What are contributors expected to create? 

We will be accepting several different forms of original, fannish work. A non-exhaustive list of examples can be found in the Contributor Guidelines.

Are all Lockwood & Co characters allowed?

Yes! We welcome both book and show interpretations of any Lockwood & Co characters.

Are collaborations allowed?

Yes! The zine is open to collaborations, but between confirmed contributors only. Collaborators will be expected to communicate well amongst themselves so they can deliver their zine pieces on time.

An individual contributor may also create a multi-media piece that involves both writing and artistic aspects.

Any content that is strictly prohibited?

Content may be evaluated and rejected on a case-by-case basis by the mod team. The following are not allowed:

RPF (Real Person/People Fiction)

Q1: Why does Taqtu wear his jacket despite it being so hot?

A1: He feels comfortable in it, and is very stubborn. He’ll get heatstroke before removing it, he’ll die in style!

Q2: How did Mukondi know the MC was an Oracle, or is it not a secret when they're not on diplomatic missions?

A2: The state of the MC as an Oracle is private, and only known by government officials, and close family (If they have such). Because Oracles are rare, and protected. 

Mukondi did know the MC was an Oracle when she was added as an ambassador. She knew the info, and heard a story of the Oracle’s odd medical condition (Fainting, generally weak, etc.). So Mukondi knew, and they had an alibi ready in case the Oracle fainted, grew weak, or did something similar, in order to help cover for the MC.

Q3: Do you think you’ll publish the story in writing if you’re unable to get an artist? Would a Kickstarter be something you guys would be able to do or want to do in the future?

A3: It’s a possibility! I am indeed thinking about doing something along these lines, it just takes a lot of time and energy to do so. An artist may be hard to get right now, but doing Patreon, Kickstarter, or Ko-fi is not a bad idea.

Q4: Is there any social media to follow y'all together or separately to see what you do next?

A4: I’m not really big on social media, and I currently use my twitter for my Final Fantasy character, and Dice giveaways. I’m a fairly private person, so no social media, but the Discord Server is still up, and you can contact me there if necessary.

I may open a Stellamore Twitter one day, we’ll see!

Q5: Would you guys ever consider putting the game together as an interactive fiction?

A5: That was the starting plan/idea! Something to have on your phone, where you can experiment with your decisions, it all changes with you! But that stopped unfortunately, life happens. But that was indeed the starting plan/concept!

Q6: The Li’s and Children?

A6: Most of them are decent parents, however some of them would’ve had an issue of “Oh, small person, hiiii~”.

For further reference:

Taqtu is a happy dad “Let’s go champ!” “Play ball!”.

Seneca is a gentle father.

Waauru and Mukondi are “Let’s go to Mcdonalds!” type of parents.

Ariki and Cipactli are sweet, if their kid fails, they kiss their forehead and give a lollipop.

Dior and Halle are “Oh hi small child.” “Oh we’re hugging?” *pats the child awkwardly like a cat*

Q7: What would it take to keep this project going?

A7: While I has seen people offering help, I don't want to put fans and lovers of the game into a position where I cannot financially pay you back! The game consumed lots of time and effort. Even if you want to work for free, I don't feel comfortable taking that offer! If I cannot pay you back in some way, or make it worth your time, I don't want to pull you all into it! I love the game, the story, and want to continue it! But there’s a LOT going on, and having fans work for free will bother my mind.

Q8: What are details about the world that you'd like to share, but wouldn't have come up in the game?

A8: Well, we have several ideas about the world. If anything, having the backstory of other characters and knowing how they came to be, but we couldn’t do that without making the game/story “extra fat” so to speak.

The story with Halle was very interesting! But we couldn’t put much information to it without “bloating” the game.

If I had to think of specific details? What really comes to mind is backstories for characters prevalent to other characters’ story! People in the background!

The merfolk and their warlord, the Marakihau, how they’re such an important exporter of crystals.

The Marakihau and melusine.

The Ijiraat against the Jotunn. Their difference in mindsets and conflict.

Like we could touch this with Taqtu and Halle but we couldn’t do much or not move the story.

The Faelands, inspired by philippines, but they’re very “background/low mentioned” in game.

The crystals! There is more going on there that we couldn’t add!

And lots of worldbuilding that doesn’t affect the main plot, or characters’ stories that couldn’t be added.

Unplanned/Spontaneous Questions:

Q1: Is the Emperor religious/devout?

A1: He is, but not nearly as hard as his wife. He was a commoner until he raised in rank through military might.

When the Empress was young, one day she snuck out of the palace, and the two encountered each other, and he fell in love with her. So he went up many stations to marry her, gaining favor and whatnot.

Q2: Cipactli and religion?

A2: He is very religious, does proper worship, but is more a man of science and progress. He feels there are more uses for crystals, and that we should expand for the betterment of the people, but that is in conflict with the fact that the empire is made of “warriors and priests”.

Q3: I know the MC can kind of be changed up. Do you yourself have a headcanon for the MC?

A3: We as the devs, didn’t exactly insert ourselves as the MC? But we basically imagined ourselves working in the palace. 

Luna being the “Royal artist” making the royal portraits.

Warie being the “Head butler/maid/steward”

And I’d (Gogo) be the “Royal caretaker” of the cow.

So during a route, when the MC is trying to hide in the palace, they could find us 3 in a closet taking a “cookie break” due to stress, an easter egg of sorts haha.

Q4: Once the barrier went up, what happened to Cici’s brother?

A4: The Empress said “NOBODY TOUCH MY BABY!”. Size wise, the barrier got some of the palace, and parts of the town around it, so it did get some everyday people, their homes, and shops. 

If you take the route to stay outside with Halle, there’d be an Empress speech towards the inhabitants trapped within (She’d have Cipactli and baby brother) showing that the barrier doesn’t scare her family, and it won‘t “go freely” so to speak. Afterwards, he was in “baby jail” so to speak, but wasn’t alone as he had his dog :)

Q5: Can we become a consort for the Empress?

A5: She can have multiple consorts, yes. Some Empress’ go towards monogamy, some don’t. The current Empress says “I like this himbo, he’s mine” (About the current Emperor) and seems fine with just him.

Q6: If someone were to stream what’s currently available of the game on YouTube or Twitch, is that okay?

A6: Yes! I want more people to be interested! Seeing you all want us to continue and support us is really encouraging!

Q7: Can we kiss the Li’s?

A7: You cannot hold hands! Sooooo….. If you insist!

Q8: Does the Oracle get paid for being an Oracle?

A8: They do but it’s a weird situation. They’re the “astrology teller”. So they have a steady income. They don't have a mansion nor are they rich, but they will be able to afford a nice hut and raise a family of 4.

And the government would want to hide the fact that they’re an Oracle, and want them to lay low.

Q9: Would it have been possible that the Li’s be down for a polycule?

A9: Yes. Cipactli to Taqtu. Or Seneca to Taqtu  (That one is a hot mess).

Taqtu and Halle would be at the same place.

Taqtu would have been respecting of him and his limitations, accepting the jotunn people, overcoming prejudice, respect and nature and the empire.

Halle would be dealing with isolation, the same as the humans, but trying to stretch out globally, go around traditions making way for the future, building courage, and old magics.

Q10: Any funny moments you had planned?

A10: Besides our “Cookie break dev” easter egg, in Cipactli, Mukondi, and Waauru’s routes, we’d have a bit of “shenanigans' with the dog. But that’s about as far as we’ve done for any of the routes.

Q11: Which of the characters do YOU want to kiss?

A11: My boy, my baby, Seneca. And Halle.

Q12: Is Mukondi? okay?

A12: Yes. She’s a politician, stress is a part of her job, she’s fine.

I’m thinking about turning Stellamore into a novel or something of the sort, giving you insight into the story and writing!

Maybe doing a Ko-fi or Patreon with goals towards giving more story and information! Maybe even things about specific characters!

Writing a story is difficult, and I don’t have the “braincells” for it sometimes.

We just try to have certain themes connected to characters.

And that brings up a good point! We tried to have an MC who isn’t “bland like bread”, which can be an issue of Visual Novels, or games like this.

So, if I approach this in a writing way, would ya’ll feel comfortable with me trying to give the MC personality?

Would you want the same Protagonist in each route, or have different MC’s as oracles? Sort of changing protagonist per route? (Seems like a general yes in opinion from who was there) So having each Oracle have different personalities, each route having a different take on the MC! (It’d help with story, worldbuilding, etc.) and could help expand on the Li’s more too!

We tried to make the Li’s open to the MC, but some of them do have certain preferences, like Dior who wants someone cultured/invested in the world!
