The glory of fanfiction is that anyone can create whatever story they want. They don't have to follow into the standards of literature. It's an entirely different genre and I love it. I will always defend someone's right to tell their story in whatever way they want.

However.

If the first third of a fic is high intensity, and the next third is suspenseful, its really annoying to me when the final third just tapers off with a sigh. It's your story. But oh my god please think about the arc of the story you're telling and check if its balanced. It upsets me so much. Please. I'll help. Send me a message. We'll chat. We can find a way tell your story without the plot whimpering to the end.

What If S2 spoilers ahead!

The second episode hit me in the chest with all the feels. A few random thoughts:

-MIDDLE AGED PEGGY???? YESSSSSSSS. MY GAL. I love all forms of Peggy, including BAMF, non-super Peggy. Peggy doesn't need powers to kick ass. <3

-Kurt Russell does a great job with Ego. I love it when the actor's work plays into why I hate a particular character. Ego is the WORST and Kurt Russell as Ego is super hate-able. A++, love me a villain that I can dislike without any need or want for redemption.

-LITTLE PETER AND HOPE! OMG! Bonding over music! Bonding over shared life experiences! Hope understanding Peter because Hope is also a kid who has dealt with terrible shit thanks to powerful parents! I love them as BFFs. Yes, please.

-BUCKY! Peggy and Howard's reactions to Bucky! Bucky's reaction to Howard pulling the Steve card! DLASKJFLAF

I didn't care for it either, some of it for personal taste reasons. I do think it suffered from unreasonably high expectations as a result of coming after RWRB. The bar was set very high and it definitely did not reach it. It was also probably unfair of me to go into it wanting it to be something it's not.

That being said, I'm generally in agreement that the characters did not do much for me. I honestly spent a lot of time thinking, "Why do they like each other so damn much?" I just didn't really connect emotionally with anyone so I didn't care about the relationship or the outcome. Also, I just really hate a climax that involves a chase or a "hurry we have to do X before Y or Bad Thing" situation, so I peaced out right around when I realized that's where it was going.

I don’t know if anyone else who follows me has both read the book and seen the movie Poor Things

But I read it this week and watched the movie last night and I feel like I need to talk about it with someone because it’s still rattling around in my head

#visually the movie was absolutely stunning. deserved the production awards it got without a doubt #and some of the changes I really did enjoy #the change in camera and filming style to fit tone was amazing in ways I don’t have the film vocab to fully compliment #making Godwin also somewhat monstrous but also adding the aspect of felicity was something I found so interesting bc he SHOULD becomplicated #dafoe was great with that complication though #and I liked that it was focused more on Bella and not filtered through two different men’s views #(even though I do think those filters were very much part of the point in the book it wouldn’t have worked as well in a movie) #some of the plot streamlining made a lot of sense. making everything in the house feel unreal was a great choice #I do think they made McCandless come off sweeter than I found him in the book? maybe just bc the actor was charming idk #ruffalo was excellent playing a man who Sucks #the Alexandria moment I liked but I feel like beyond that they really glossed over some of the themes of class and healthcare disparity? #Paris touched on it for sure but it felt more present in the books esp with including Bella’s career #and I don’t know how I feel about the ending #I understand making it more hopeful than the book. but what she did with the general I’m kind of. meh. can’t decide #but I also didn’t fully love the ending of the book either so idk how I feel overall #but this will be a story that stays with me I think
