Just misheard a song
What they said: sailors What I heard: Seders
What they said: and they’re on leave What I heard: in a tree
The line: It's two sailors and they're on leave.
What I imagined: Two Seders' worth of of Orthodox Jews in the branches of a large apple tree.

And now, for your Pride enjoyment, I present to you:
"Stonewall Riot"
<Sung to the tune of "Zoot Suit Riot">
+++++
[Verse 1]
Who’s that senator standin’ tall,
It’s Joe McCarthy and he hates us all,
Commies, anarchists, leftists, and queers,
Our rights were stripped, we lived in fear.
[Pre-Chorus 1]
A ma-fi-a owned dance hall,
Is where we went to play
The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich,
They didn’t care if we were gay.
[Chorus 1]
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
Throw back a brick and a beer!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
My civil rights started ri-i-ight here!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
Throw back a brick and a beer!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
My civil rights started ri-i-ight here!
Blow daddy!
[Verse 2]
A-raid gone wrong's where it began,
The N Y P D didn't understand,
We weren't just sheep, merely in a haze,
But once we came to we quickly got enraged
[Pre-Chorus 2]
The ri-ots last-ed days,
Our community unfurled,
Later, queers would say it was
“The brick thrown round the world”
[Chorus 2]
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
Throw back a brick and a beer!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
My civil rights started ri-i-ight here!
[Bridge]
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
<Skat-like>
Here at Pri-ide now,
Leather daddy’s ok,
Trans folk and a-specs,
Non-binary display!
Get your kink on
Lesbians, Bi’s, and Gays,
Intersex is welcome,
But cops stay away!
[Pre-Chorus 3]
Oh, the fight, it still ain't done
But we're-through hidin' behind-closed-doors
Cause-we've stood all we can stands
And we just can't stands no more!
[Chorus 1]
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
Throw back a brick and a beer!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
My civil rights started ri-i-ight here!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
Throw back a brick and a beer!
Stonewall Riot (Riot!)
My civil rights started ri-i-ight here!
[Outro]
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
You're in a Stonewall Riot!
(I think I'm about ready for Pride now)

Zoot Suit from Augusta Auctions: Men’s Fashion Or Costume?
Zoot suits became popular with African-American entertainers like Cab Calloway during the late 1930s and early 1940s. They made for a great stage presence as they exaggerated all proportions, making for a literally spectacular look. Notice how a regular fedora looks positively puny set above the suit. Calloway wore enormous hats to go along with his suits.
The shoulders are enormous and padded, and here the mix of fabrics places horizontal stripes to widen the torso of the jacket as well. The sleeves are big and then must be narrowed towards the hemline so as not to get in the way. The pants are enormous too and then the hems with cuff is pegged, again, to make it easier for the wearer to move. Notice the high waistband. While men wore their pants higher in the 1930s than they do today, this waistline was so high that suspenders made more sense. It has no label, so it may have been custom made or made in a small shop.
Young men of all races who loved music got excited about zoot suits and wore their own. Then, as now, people looked to celebrities for daring styles. So it is possible this was street wear, but the pockets with double bellows are soooooo enormous that this makes me think they may have been some entertainer’s stage costume. Of course, I should not underestimate the sartorial wackiness of young men. Remember, when they were all wearing sagging pants?
Zoot suits got a bad name because of the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 when white US servicemen in California blamed all wearers of zoot suits for crimes they said were committed by young men wearing zoot suits. They attacked Mexican-American zoot suiters at random and tore off their clothing. The suits also seemed unpatriotic during an era when fabric had to be preserved for the war effort. Disney made a short film that suggested zoot suits and Nazism were linked. Some scholars argue that zoot suits were worn by disaffected young people as a way of rejecting a society which had rejected them, while other argue it was simply a fashion trend adopted by young people of all kinds as something new.
This one was sold by Augusta Auctions for a whooping $78,000.

World War Two23 hours ago (edited)
On 3 June 1943, American servicemen open the attack on the Latino youth of Los Angeles in the Zoot Suit Riots. The youth cultures are flourishing in Los Angeles, and the young Latino community is no exception. Expressing a new wave of music and dress, some young men have started wearing so-called 'zoot suits'. Made up of a long wide-shouldered coat, gathered pants, and extravagant chains, the suit is a flamboyant piece and a form of protest against the economic disadvantages they often have.
But now, it's wartime, and that means rationing. Among the rationed goods are suits, which are now to be manufactured with as little wool as possible. Wide cuts such as the zoot suits are therefore also banned from manufacturing and selling. However, the young Latinos continue to wear what they got and sometimes acquire new suits on the black market.
The zoot suits do much to anger the large population of military servicemen in the city, who see them as provoking and unpatriotic. With all eyes already on Los Angeles' young Latino community because of the ongoing Sleepy Lagoon murder trial, a brawl between a group of sailors and zoot suiters is all that's needed to ignite the tension.
The day after the brawl, a mob of servicemen armed with clubs heads for East Los Angeles to pick a fight with any young Latino they can lay their hands on. Journalist Carey McWilliams witnesses: 'Marching through the streets of downtown Los Angeles, a mob of several thousand soldiers, sailors, and civilians, proceeded to beat up every zoot suiter they could find. [...] Streetcars were halted while Mexicans, and some Filipinos and Negroes, were jerked from their seats, pushed into the streets and beaten with a sadistic frenzy.'
The racial violence will continue for several more days, during which the local media will lay the blame for the riots on the young Latinos. The police just stand by and watch or even participate in the riots, arresting some 500 zoot suiters. Photo: Victims of the Zoot Suit Riots, June 1943. Source: Harold P. Matosian, AP
