Miscellaneous vampire au thoughts, with the standard ‘Moreau being an abusive jackass’ content warning:
- While Eliot was still working for Moreau, he got captured by someone who fully intended to turn him into a vampire and use him against his employer. It was a bad plan - no supernatural bond could stop Eliot Spencer from killing you if he set his mind to it - but Eliot was terrified. If he was turned, on some basic level he would no longer be so useful to Moreau.
He broke free before it happened, and he killed the people responsible, and worked even more on becoming better and sharper and stronger so Moreau would never think of discarding him.
- Chapman is a vampire - older than Quinn, maybe seventy or so. He's lower down on the ladder than Eliot and pissed about it, but at least he can pretend it's because Eliot's offering the boss something else. He calls Eliot dog, calls him Moreau's pet and always slightly means it, and tries not to keep resenting when he finally takes the job opening.
- Vampires always recognise their own kind. "Ms Devereaux," he greets her, acknowledgement and assurance in one. "Mr Quinn," she replies. They don't address it beyond that for years.
In many ways it's barely a part of her life anymore. Live as long as Sophie has, shed as many old names and faces, and it becomes easy as anything to slip into a new shell and make it your own. This one she's worked to make her home. This one she's settling in, around people who know - at least a little - what she is.
What she does to stay alive is another matter. The makeup she orders specially and the hats and gloves she finds excuses for when her skin needs to recover. The tricks she uses on marks, though not audiences - she wants too much to be recognised for herself there, a weakness she thought she’d lost centuries ago - are put down to skill and charisma, and that's true enough. She doesn't really lie to her team. She doesn't kill. And it never once seems to bother them that they don't know what kinds of lives she's left behind.
(She finds Quinn so strange to watch - so young and so open. It makes her feel ancient at first. It makes her feel like she might as well be that young herself.)
- Vampires don't, in fact, live forever, and they age at something closer to normal when they feed too infrequently or rely on blood packs for too long. Quinn relies on them sometimes for work.
Moreau, stuck in his cell, won’t outlive any standard human by long.
- At some point, just like wondering why Nate didn't ask Sophie for money when his son was dying, you have to wonder if he ever considered finding a vampire to help him. Thing is, Nate had some sort of faith right until the end. Oh, he still believes in God and Hell afterwards, but he loses some fundamental faith in the world's goodness, and it's a lot easier to betray your principles when you know nothing else is going to save you. On some level, though he'll work with vampires and doesn't think any less of Sophie once she strategically shows him enough for him to piece it together, he does think they're... something. Monsters, or damned, or just not quite people anymore. He isn’t even sure.
It took his son dying for him to realise he'd rather have his son be a monster than dead. Even years later, he can't quite get to grips with the selfishness of that.
- I haven't actually decided on how Quinn was turned, or how turning humans into vampires would work. He's definitely young, and definitely didn't have a traditional vampire ‘upbringing’.
Let's go the accidental route for now: he bit a vampire as a distraction during a very close fight, got hit in the head so hard he shouldn't have survived it, and woke up on the floor three hours later thinking huh. He tidied up, sent his best excuses to his employer, and took two months to get to grips with his new situation. Then he calmly went back to work. A year later Eliot found him in a warehouse in Kyiv to offer him a job.
- Vampire bites don't normally scar. The ones Quinn makes on jobs (these days, at least, it took a little practice) close up so quickly they're sometimes only a tender spot by the time the person wakes; generally, people are too embarrassed to report it as anything but ‘knocked out on patrol.’
They don't normally scar, but they can if they're too deep, too soon after each other, or if the vampire takes something to affect their venom. It isn't unusual for hitters to have messy bite scars obtained during fights or captivity, just like messy scars from anything else. Eliot flies under the radar. Not many people know what his was meant to mean.
Once Moreau is locked away, once the others float the idea, he briefly considers getting it removed. In truth, though, it's not the only scar that reminds him of those days. Not the only scar that reminds him what he did or who he belonged to. Some part of him doesn't want that excised - too like pretending none of it happened. He doesn’t get to do that.
Quinn bites him wherever Eliot asks him to, but he won't leave any scars. That's not something either of them wants. Eliot keeps the results of his x-rays to himself: the rib that healed fine, really, just a little misaligned. From the first time they met.
He’s felt the slight notch on Quinn’s rib, too.

coming back was a mistake?
Tumblr media
the reader bonds with kai over their shared dislike of mystic falls
previous part
kai parker x fem!reader
word count: 4180
music: cherry by lana del rey, stella maris by moby
She came to the football field every evening at approximately the same time. Kai started weighing which sight he liked more: the pretty smart dog catching its frisbee in the air, or the grumpy girl in her skin-shade top, running around like the devil was trying to bite her in the ass.
Well, the dog hopped so high, and it was so lively! Plus, dogs are all adorable.
But the crop top though.
After several evenings Kai started noticing the pattern. She always stood in one place, as she was catching her breath, and looked at the clouds. She might not even notice she stops at the same very spot every time she finishes running. After the second evening, and after she left, Kai came down to the court and put a scratch five inches long on the ground with a jackknife. She always stood exactly there. He looked up into the now darkened sky, seeing the first stars, and pondered, as if her thoughts could be captured by him now, floating there, above where she’d been. What was she crying about so gravely? Her hands were shaking as she pressed them into her mouth, like children do. After she was done, she walked away to her house, relieved, and didn’t look back.
That was puzzling. Might as well busy himself with the mystery of the sad moody girl who cries on the football field every evening, while he’s waiting for the merge.
Tumblr media
You stood, silently praising yourself for throwing your jacket into the car at the last moment (come on, monkey! we ain’t got any more time! Damon was yelling. He couldn’t hide how much he liked it when you came to visit every year, and you felt bad for despising the visits). The wind was unusually ferocious for the warm month, but then again, this place was deep in the waterfall region, up in the hills, an open spot. Plus, there must have been some hardcore magic ingrained right in the soil. As you stood, and watched, while the Salvatore brothers were humping and cracking their backs, digging up the earth, you pretended to feel the magic oozing out. The burial places always felt special. Having lived in Mystic Falls, you worked up this rare type of intuition.
You didn’t want to come. As you returned, and was busted by the Mystic Falls gang on the very first evening, you reminded them of your foremost rule: you do not engage in their bullshit anymore. Let them fight all the original vampires of the planet... or the werewolves... whatever... you only came back once a year, for seven days, and weren’t keeping up with the Draculashians. A tiny part of you was curious. But it hit back hard, every time. Involving yourself in the MF action was dangerous, and made you feel like an old woman who keeps complaining about them kids being loud in the street.
You were on your way to Caroline’s when somebody called Damon, and he put on his working face. Turned out, they need to undig some bodies exactly today, because the Little Shit (Damon didn’t specify whom they referred to) made his conditions. Well, work’s work. You hadn’t been to this spot before. From up here, you could even see the distand hills of New Orleans. You missed that place.
“How many bodies do you need?” you asked them. Stefan stood up to look at you curiously. As if saying, there are the bodies - we need to get them. Get them all!
“It’s not how many”, Damon helped, “it’s which ones”.
“And what are you gonna do with them?”
“I will eat them”, somebody whispered. You shivered a little under your clothes, but didn’t budge. You looked at your side. Malachai from the bar.
“Joking”, he snickered, “I don’t eat corpses. But I do have jello worms, you want some?”
You examined him thoroughly.
“You have blue ones?”
He looked down the pack.
“I think so...”
As you tried to fish out the blue ones, he looked at you.
“Do you eat bodies?” he asked.
“No, not really”, he sighed. “Thanks”.
“Mm-hm”, he was chewing, looking at the vampire brothers as they worked. Damon shot you two a glance which didn’t say anything specific.
“You’re the Little Shit?” you guessed.
“They call me that? Rude”, he moved his shoulder as if he was a bit cold. “I guess I do somewhat irritate them”.
“Somewhat?!” Damon growled. You cringed.
“And what are you, a digging up works inspector?” Kai went on. You grinned.
“Oh, you’re Y/N! You’re the girl they’ve been talking about, non-stop”, he realized.
At the grave, the brothers exchanged glances, since of course, they haven’t been talking about you in Parker’s presence.
You nodded.
“You long here?”
“A week”, you said, and rubbed your arms, “why is it so damn cold”.
“It’s the spirits disagreeing with the whole vandalizing ungraving, you know. I can’t calm them down just yet”, the guy said knowingly. You wondered internally what he was after all. He squatted a bit, putting his palm to the ground.
“Hold it”, the pack of candy was shoved into your hand and you filled your mouth with sour-sweet worms. Your jaws were about to get glued together.
“Woah, yeah, they fight back”, he took the hand away. “Listen, you”, he pointed his finger at the soil. You looked up at Damon and Stefan, asking them silently what was up with this dude. “I’m about to suck out your whole miserable existence, so you better comply, bitches”.
“Bonnie’s really good at communicating with spirits”, you said musingly.
“She’s also very good at lying, cheating and tricking people into trusting her and then stabbing them in the back”, Malachai said happily, standing up. He reached for some worms politely, forgetting it was his pack to begin with.
“You’ve met her?”
“Met her? Ha, I’ve been locked up with her. What a controversial creature”.
“Where is she? I haven’t seen her since I came”.
“Yeah, she’s... uh...” Kai cocked his head, thinking, “I might have left her in a... magical prison, you know”.
“What an asshole”, you said. You remembered the judgemental, brilliant, restless Bonnie Bennett. “Get her back”.
“It’s not that easy, miss”, Malachai sniffed. “Why do you care, anyway?”
“We studied together”.
“Okay then. See the diggers? We’re doing this all to get back there and get Bon Bon out”.
Damon puffed as if he could get tired. He was just probably listening and was severely annoyed. You knew at once when you saw Kai here how Damon could be deeply irritated by him. Their personalities did not correlate.
“And you? What are you doing?” he asked. Like he meant something else. You watched his curious face, the sweetness filling your mouth so much the gums started hurting. You needed water.
“I’m just here, man. Chilling”.
He nodded to his own thoughts.
“Hm”.
You turned back to the Salvatores simultaneously.
“You wanna go on a date?” Kai asked.
You haven’t been on a date in years. You were not the type to go dating.
“Stop this freaking wind, will you”, you shuddered yet again, instead of the answer. Kai got to the ground immediately.
Tumblr media
You drove up to the corner and walked a little to the Grill doors. Malachai was standing there, waiting, like he was the Italian lover boy at the times when families of two children were willing to start war over dignity, and he was serenading to somebody. He didn’t say anything, just smiled at you; his gaze said things instead of him. Putting his arm above your head, he opened the door, and you entered the bar.
“The other way”, he took you by the forearm and then his fingers slid down to your wrist. Somehow, you got goose bumps on your skin at his touch; it was irrational. As the music filled the space, crappy, hipster Mystic Falls music, he led you to one of the tables closer to tha bar counter. You were trying to decipher the glint in his eyes, almost haunting, when you realized you‘re staring at each other.
“What?” you grinned even, uneasy, as your head cocked, and you caught yourself blushing on the inside. Get your act together. He’s not even that handsome. Well, maybe, okay, he is very handsome, but he’s one of those, so, don’t get your hopes up. You recalled how you two mocked the working Salvatores together, eating the chewing candy and cursing the dead. Nothing like doing nothing, bullying busy grumpy people. The conversation started itself.
“The music here is awful”.
“You’re very pretty”, he said shyly. “Maybe even too pretty”. He gestured towards you. There wasn’t any ogling with him, he was sincerely charming. He must be dangerous.
“The whole face and the... hair thing. Do you ever have problems because you’re pretty?”
The waiter, Maureen, approached you, and you had to stop for a while. She looked at Kai obediently, without paying you any attention. You found it eerie.
“No”, you began, and then thought. Well, every ‘pretty’ girl has problems sometimes. When it comes to brushing against the majority, the bar for ‘pretty’ is very low. If you walk down the street, and somebody throws a glance at you, they manage to see you as ‘pretty’.
“Well. You know, you sound like an asshole if you say you have problems because you’re good looking”.
Kai cocked his head like a bird, question in his eyes.
“Speaking of assholes, explain again how Bonnie ended up somewhere alone?”
He sighed.
“It’s a long story”.
You shrugged.
“We’ve got the whole evening”.
“You know, I’ll tell you, she killed me, you’ll ask how, I’ll have to go back a bit and explain how the magical prison works, you’ll ask what she and Damon were doing there, I’ll have to go back and explain, you’ll ask how I ended up there, and I’ll have to give you my whole life story”.
You took the straw in between your lips.
Kai’s nostrils flared a little.
“Alright. Maybe it was my fault a little bit”.
You were just drinking, not saying anything, and Kai started crumbling down. Must be the whole face and the hair thing.
“Alright! Alright. You ever heard of the Gemini coven? Of course you didn’t”.
You shook your head. You weren’t sure if you wanted to actually listen to the whole life story of this guy. That’s exactly how Mystic Falls tricks you into being one of them. It’s just full of dramatic, twisted life stories.
“It’s a witch coven, the coolest one, well, it used to be. Now almost all of them are dead, and soon, I will be the only one left”.
“Because you’ll kill them all?” you asked innocently.
“Yeah”.
“Yeah, of course. Why am I asking. Stupid”.
“I was born without magic. We have this thing, in the coven, the twins have to duel when they turn twenty one. The one with stronger magic wins and lives and absorbs the other’s life force and powers. But I was born without magic, so”, he tilted his head left and right, as if saying, well, you guess how it goes.
“Big disappointment. My mom used to lock me up in the basement for days not to embarrass guests”.
“What?!”
“Yeah. And this thing... I can absorb magic, because I’m a siphoner. It’s like... if I feel magic somewhere, I can take it. Then use it. Then I need more”.
“So, that’s why you were crawling on the ground there”.
“Yeah”, Kai nodded, “and the oldest bodies of those witches have the most magic, so, I now have enough strength to go back and bring your precious Bonnie home”.
“So, your folks gave you hard time then?”
He got distracted by your nails clicking on the glass. He was like a cat, his eyes clutched the sound, the flickering lights of the evening Grill dancing in the dark of his eyeballs.
“Do you sharpen them on purpose?”
“Of course”, you muttered, “that makes people want to touch me less”.
An uneven breath left his lips. You realized you found him endearing. What a cute, chaotic creature, dressed like a Soft Boy, but with a dark scheme on the back of his mind, eyes darting from here to there, and the tongue completely detached from brain. No wonder Mystic Falls couldn’t handle him.
“Scratch my hand”, he asked, putting his palm on the table. Amusement curled your lips.
You put your palm on his and tickled.
“Were you a twin?” you asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I was. My sister is still alive, but you know, if the merge ended up happening, she’d be dead. Because even without my own magic, I’m stronger than her. She’s all... spells from the books, rules of conjuring, flower growing magic. I’m a natural. Which is ironic”, a sad chuckle clouded his voice for a second. “My dad used to tell me he wished I was never born at all, even if it meant they missed an opportunity to have a set of twins for the merge”.
You eyed him carefully. He talked sad, but looked entertained. He was turning and pulling his hand under your tickling, like a child.
“You’re a big boy now”, you heard yourself, “you know how them fanatics are, right?”
“Hmm?”
“Just because it’s their fucked up world doesn’t mean you were a mistake”.
Kai nodded.
“I killed half of them anyway. My sisters and brothers, and my mom”.
You stopped tickling for a second.
“Uh, you killed your siblings and your mom?”
He was taking a sip and nodded.
“Mm-hm, yeah. I hanged my little brother from the banisters on the staircase. Have you ever killed somebody?”
An uneven chain of thoughts raced through your mind. Any other place, you would’ve freaked out. Here, it’s kind of fine. Everybody’s like that. Kai was a bit extreme, of course. Him confessing killing his child siblings on your date was a bit of a thrill pill. It’s not like he smothered Caroline with a pillow. Or pushed Elena’s car from the bridge. Of pinned Damon to the wall of his own living room. Or turned a sixteen year old schoolgirl into a raging vampire right in time for Halloween.
“You look like you killed somebody”, he whispered conspirationally. You turned his hand and scratched a bit harder. He didn’t notice.
“Is it your witch observation, or a pickup line?”
Kai grinned.
“I’ve told you everything. You tell me why you’re coming back every year”.
“Who told you I do?”
“Damon”.
You rolled your eyes.
“Just to visit”.
He narrowed his eyes.
“That is a lie. You’re lying to me. You hate this place. You don’t come here for a full week out of your own will to visit people you don’t even like”.
“It’s not that I don’t like them, I just...”
“Can’t stand them”.
“Their shenanigans. How long have you been here?”
“Since spring”.
“Have you noticed”, you even leaned over the table a little bit, and his fingers wrapped around your palm with determination. His hand was warm and dexterous. “That they’re in deep shit every week? These people don’t chill. It’s one cosmic threat after another, and most of the time, it’s Damon’s fault”.
“Yes”, Kai said gravely. “Yes. And it’s always about romance. Everybody is in love with everybody”.
You started laughing with relief you didn’t know the source of.
You were tickling his palm gently as you spoke, and didn’t even notice. Suddenly, Kai nearly jumped.
“Wait, you said, awful music?”
“Of course”.
“Give me your phone”.
You didn’t reply, looking at him.
“Come on. You wanna dance or not? I’ll go talk to the DJ”.
“Talk to the DJ?”
“Yeah. I’ll bring it back to you”.
Kai didn’t. A minute after he left with your phone, the mood changed. Even the lights went darker. You finished your drink and then recognized your own playlist coming in on the speakers. When he returned, pulling you into the crowd of people gathering to dance, you looked around at the couples. Malachai, the guy who grew up being locked in the basement by his mother and hearing that he was a mistake of nature, turned out to be an okay dancer, in fact. Perhaps he was just fucking around when he sang in the karaoke. He pulled you up to him and couldn’t stop himself from touching your arms as if tapping you for magic you might have been hiding. His hands explored the lean lines of your waist as you moved, and it didn’t feel forced. Going on a date with someone you barely know, you usually expect all kinds of awkward collisions, but this here was light-hearted, sincere, like neither of you cared enough, connected with your shared displeasure with this town. Neither of you really wanted to be here; Kai said he was waiting for something connected with the merge in September, because, after all the years he spent in the prison, he thought he had another shot at merging with his sister. Apparently, they’re all stoked to duel and kill their twin or die, well, let them. The less mental cases.
Not wanting to be here made you pull close to each other as if you were a proud unit, judging people around silently. People, weirdly, didn’t seem to mind to dance to Lana Del Rey the whole evening, then switching suddenly to relatively unknown soft hip-hop. They just moved, drunk on the evening, consumed by the calm twilight of the place, and you danced, too, with Kai’s hands sliding up and down your shoulders, soothing you like a snake charmer.
Suddenly, he leaned into a kiss and you didn’t pull away. You collided like waves, gentle at first, then, hungry, and wild attraction made your head switch off. His one hand laid on the back of your neck and the other, secured the low of your back, like he was a completely normal guy on a completely normal date, having completely normal heat coming up to his throat. Maybe he was, at the moment. You found it hard to break the kiss, feeling how strangely comfortable it was, like you knew each other forever. Shared spite does miracles to people’s minds.
You drank a little bit too much, perhaps, so your head started spinning, and you were forced to open you eyes. You looked around, still in his arms, and everybody - and that means everybody - in the bar was watching you, not dancing anymore. The music was still on, but people froze completely, mesmerized, and stared at you without any expression.
“What are they looking at?” you whispered.
“They’ll remember witnessing something beautiful, but won’t know exactly what”, Kai said nonchalantly. You shot him a glance.
“What?”
“I compelled them all”, he brushed them away with his hand, “it’s a private party”.
“That’s abuse...” you thought out loud.
“You think I’m evil?” Kai asked. Somehow it didn’t sound connected to your notion.
“Nah”.
Perhaps you should’ve given it more thought. You didn’t even see how impressed he was by the easiness with which you shook your head.
“Just bitter”.
He looked around, and people moved again, like nothing happened.
You couldn’t stop kissing each other even after you left and walked down the street away from the bar.
“You wanna go see a special place?” he mumbled into your face, his breath warm and sweet. “Your heels will disagree with it though, we’ll have to take ‘em off”.
There was almost lust in his voice.
‘Special place’ turned out to be the watching tower behind the school. Mystic Falls was such a small, pathetic place that it only had one sport court, one square and one park. The watching tower was called that because, when you were all fifteen, the bravest kids used to climb up the platform to watch the Founders Day fireworks. It was a steel construction resembling the tower for the musical engineer at a gig. Nobody ever figured out what it was initially for. Maybe Damon and Stefan should’ve dropped their whole vampire wars and first ivestigated that.
Kai was right though: the narrow ladder was made of iron and you had to take off your shoes. The platform itself stood about twelve feet up and was big enough for five people. You laid shoulder to shoulder, and only then you finally realized. It was the night for Perseids.
Brilliant white comets were shooting through the skies. Kai put his hand under the back of his head. You thought of how once you were watching shooting stars with your father back when you were a child; one of the stars fell somewhere behind hills and he said that it exploded. He convinced you he’s seen the afterglow of the explosion, and with time, you have convinced yourself you’ve seen it, too. Bright, short, white flash of misty light, like a flickering halo above the mountain. This memory was completely fake. Just like his belief that the red stars are the youngest. Father knew jack shit about space.
“You ever compare yourself with the size of universe?” you asked. You were afraid to sound too romantic, or stupid, but you were drunk enough.
“Yeah. I like stars”.
“Do you feel small or big?”
“Small”, Kai replied obediently.
“Does it make you feel lonely, or is it a liberating feeling?”
“Lonely”.
“Does it make you wanna die or live forever?”
“I’m planning to live forever”, he said with convitction. You turned your head and discovered he’s been looking at you.
“Aren’t you mortified of the future?”
“I’m just very tired of dying”.
Your brows gathered together. You reached for his cheek and touched it with your fingers to make sure he was flesh and blood.
“You can’t die in prison world”, he explained.
“Oh. Are you alive right now?”
Now, Malachai was a little surprised.
“I think so”, he chuckled. “Hey, you. I’ve been spilling the tea all night and then you distracted me with kissing, and now I’m realizing you said nothing yourself”.
You wondered what Kai has done to deserve the title of Little Shit. You imagined he somehow incorporated you into his plan since he was so nice to you. He looked like he was geniunely interested.
“Nothing to tell. I don’t want to”.
“That’s not fair”.
You shut him up with a kiss.

As he let go of her hand, seeing the yellow light from the window, he has already decided everything. The door let the wave of bright flood him, and, before it closed behind her back, he turned invisible and hopped inside.
The house stood empty, with the light on in the kitchen. He didn’t know if she seemed like somebody who’s afraid of darkness, but it was strange. Kai let her go upstairs alone and cruised a little around the kitchen and the living room; her house, like her, felt mysterious and so familiar. When Kai finally made it upstairs to her room, she was taking a shower. Malachai touched every little thing that laid around: he put his palm to the wall, fidgeted with the jewelry she left on the bedside table; sat on her bed, opened and closed the curtains and left the outline of his hand on the window. He touched the handles of the wardrobe and brushed lightly over the dress she’s just been wearing, that she threw onto a chair.
When the girl came back, he expected her to cry again. Because of their date, she skipped her running session and didn’t go to the football field. As she stood at the mirror, Kai came up so close to her, he even wondered how she didn’t feel the tip of his nose barely touching her wet hair. She threw the towel on the floor, and Kai looked in the mirror. He couldn’t see himself, but he knew he was there. He wondered what they would’ve looked like together.
Then she froze and turned her head as if hearing something. Kai managed to step away as she rushed to the chair for clothes. She put on sweatpants and a shirt, and went downstairs. Kai was sure he didn’t hear anything.
Curious to no end, he followed, down to the living room, and then the kitched, the light turned on virtually everywhere in the house like she was terrified of shadows.
“No, I just came back”, she said, to nobody. Kai walked in front of her and stood in the middle of the kitchen. She looked over his shoulder. Then sat at the table.
“Fine, when did you come back?”
Pause.
“I thought you said you didn’t leave the house nowadays”.
She was talking to the empty room, a bit sad, not like when she was with him.
Wow, she is nuts, Malachai thought. Then he thought hard and repeated, to himself,
she is absolutely insane!

Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Damon Salvatore x Luke Parker (The Vampire Diaries)
Stretching, Damon blinks his eyes open against the sunlight streaming in through the windows. He pauses for a moment once he can see properly, taking in the briefly unfamiliar room. Then he spots the Whitmore hoodie flung over the back of a chair and he smiles to himself.
He glances at the empty space on his right. Assuming that classes have probably started already, he just settles back down, not having any reason to leave quite just yet. As he goes to close his eyes again, the door to the little dorm room swings open.
Damon's eyebrows shoot up as Luke walks in, barely noticing that he's awake. He's got an alert, almost panicked look all across his face. It's more the suit that's got Damon's attention.
"Okay," he says, and Luke's head snaps around to look at him. Damon sits up properly and waves a hand lazily at him. "I'll bite. Why?"
Luke's already turned to the mirror to finish buttoning up his shirt. "Why what? And--" he throws a confused glance at Damon's reflection, "--I thought you said you had to leave early today."
"Change of plans." Damon shrugs. "And why to the suit? You're a college student in Virginia majoring in English Lit and History, not some law student in Harvard."
"You know, I did consider law," Luke says. "But Liv said I wasn't allowed to abandon her and she refused even the idea of taking the LSAT's, so." He gives him a wry smile. "English Lit and History. A fair compromise."
Damon's not oblivious. Luke's told him this stuff before, they both know he has. And his voice is just evasive enough, his expression the perfect amount of please buy it and leave it alone.
He considers doing just that. It's not as if Luke has any obligation to tell him anything, and he really shouldn't care if he's keeping something to himself. But for some reason that he can't quite place, he does.
"Nope," he says after a beat. "Strike one. Two more tries."
Luke rolls his eyes and scoffs. Probably because he knows that Damon can't do anything if he just clams up and doesn't tell him. Compulsion doesn't work and Damon wouldn't even think about hurting him. He'd just be left to stew in not knowing.
But then Luke glances at him, their eyes catching. He sighs and drops his hands from his shirt. Finally, he turns to him.
"I... have to meet someone," he says, still vague, still evasive.
Damon's eyes track him around the room, narrowing. "What does that mean?" he asks, watching him pick up a tie from the chair.
Luke raises an eyebrow, cracking an elusively entertained grin at him. "It means I'm meeting someone? For breakfast?"
He pauses for the first time, actually slowing down rather than looking like he's roadrunner on fast forward.
"Hold on. Are you jealous?" he asks, his eyes wide with delight.
"Oh" --Damon's the one scoffing now-- "please. Like I have anything to be jealous of. You're not my boyfriend. You can go off and have secret breakfasts in a fancy suit with whichever stereotypical jocks you like. I could even set you up with two. You've met Matt and Tyler, right?"
That glint of delight only grows brighter, and Luke laughs in disbelief now.
"Oh my god." His tie is momentarily forgotten. "You are totally jealous. Wow. And I thought I was the one who couldn't keep things casual."
Damon rolls his eyes, his jaw tightening as he looks away from him for a moment. That knowing, prodding stare must have some compelling ability of its own because he finds it hard to lie while holding it.
It's irritating enough that Luke's right. A little pit of jealousy has opened up in his chest like it's a black hole trying to suck him in. But he doesn't do jealousy. It's an off-limits emotion and it is certainly not allowed in casual situations involving blond haired, blue eyed, Gemini witches who wanted to be a lawyer.
"But I really don't think you need to be jealous of me having breakfast with my father and sister."
Damon's eyes snap back to him sharply. "Your father? The one who tried to kill me?"
"Don't have another father, so, yeah, that'd be the one," Luke says dryly.
He moves back to the mirror to fix his tie, clearly getting nowhere trying to do it blindly.
"Why exactly is your dear old dad in town?" Damon asks. His eyes narrow again. "And why do you need to be so dressed up to have a very early breakfast with him and Liv?"
Luke visibly hesitates, eyes fixed on his own face reflected back at him. Damon watches his lips part, taking in a breath.
"Because it's our birthday," he says, almost sighing as he does, his shoulders deflating.
There's a twist in Damon's chest, stopping him dead. He stares at him, partly hoping he heard him wrong. That part fades quickly when he sees the dismayed, daunted look in Luke's eyes and knows he didn't.
"If today's your birthday, that would mean..." Damon doesn't need to finish. They both know what it means.
But Luke sighs properly and draws himself back up, replacing his dismay with firm determination. "It means Liv and I are twenty-two and officially of merging age."
Damon's eyebrows furrow. "So, what, you're going to dinner with your dad so you can give him exactly what he wants? To merge you?"
"No." Luke turns back to him and his eyes are blazing far more confidentally than Damon's seen in that crystal blue before. "We're going to convince him to let Jo and Kai merge instead."
It's a terrible plan, Damon decides right away. Many things could go wrong, and not many good outcomes spring to mind. Just the words Jo, Kai, and merge send a chill through him. As does the idea of Luke meeting with his dad now that he and Liv can merge.
"And your reason for thinking that you can talk Papa Parker into that is...?" Damon prompts sarcastically, but he's genuinely hoping Luke has some trick up his sleeve.
"Liv and I have to try," he says.
The hope deflates. So much for that.
Damon finally pushes the covers back from Luke's bed, swinging his legs over the side to stand up.
"Okay, not to sound like I'm doubting you or this idea," he says, and Luke's expression tells him he's not a great liar. "But what if he says no? And if he does miraculously say yes for some insane reason, have you thought of a way to stop Kai the murderous siphon witch who would absorb Jo in a heartbeat?"
"Jo can beat him," Luke insists with just as much confidence that it's starting to unnerve Damon. "She's stronger now."
A whole load of arguments for why this is not going to work jump straight into Damon's mind. As he opens his mouth to voice them, though, Luke takes a step forward and places his hands on both of his arms.
"It's gonne be fine," he says, so easily like he really believes that, even with the touch of anxiety in his voice. "But I really need to go before my dad shows up here looking for me."
Damon grimaces. "Can't imagine that scenario going well."
Luke laughs and shakes his head. "No, me neither. So, feel free to let yourself out whenever you wanna leave. Assuming I don't die during this breakfast, I might see you later."
Damon's still thinking of reasons why this isn't going to go well. But Luke's convinced, and this plan might not necessarily fail. Hopefully.
He sighs, his lips pressing together. His eyes dart down and Luke arches an eyebrow.
"You're not gonna convince anyone to do anything with your tie like that," he says.
Reaching down, he undoes the practically perfect knot and redoes it himself. Luke just smiles, his gaze strangely soft as it remains fixed on him the entire time.
"You gonna kiss me for good luck next?" Luke jokes.
Damon's mouth twitches. He finishes and pats Luke's chest, acting like he's going to step back. His fingers curl around the tie again, but he pulls this time and presses his lips to his.
Luke's still smiling as he returns the kiss, his amusement passing over to Damon. Then his hands are between them, on Damon's chest, and he pushes himself back.
"For luck," Damon says, winking, letting go of him completely. He shrugs. "And in case your crazy father decides to kill you. It would be cruel to not get one last kiss to remember you."
Luke scoffs, shaking his head at him, but his smile is still in place as he turns away from him and heads for the door.
Damon's positive he's going to have to think of something fast to deal with whatever the fallout of this is going to be but he has some hope that it'll work. If he ignores the clamping sense of dread that's weighing down on him for some reason. He's sure it's nothing. Nothing at all.

As you walk through the door, there is a huge contrast in lighting. You shield your face with your hand, and squint your eyes, as the sunlight filters through the trees above you. Benny seems unaffected, as he leads you through the long archway of trees. You wonder how the sun isn’t bothering him. His type of vampire doesn’t burst into flames but they do need shade, since the sun makes them uncomfortable. You think the sunlight here might be different than in his universe…
Your thoughts are interrupted when Benny stops walking and you promptly walk into him. You whine a little as your body makes contact with his, feeling his muscles ripple under your touch, bracing so he doesn’t fall over.
“Darlin’, if you wonted to hold me, you just have to ask.” You can hear the smile in his voice as you turn a bright shade of crimson.
You fumble for something to respond with but it all comes out as gibberish. Giving up, you shake your head, leaning it against his back. You sigh and you go to walk around him to see why he stopped.
“Now hold on a second. Can’t spoil the surprise jus’ yet.” He stops you and covers your eyes with his hands. You note how surprisingly soft they are. Your body moves, without your consent, as you press your back to his front.
Benny hisses in surprise and you feel… something twitch against your backside. You quietly whine under your breath.
“Mmmm as much as I like this, we got somewhere to be, love. You gotta stop doin’ that or we ain’t gone make it to the party. And I really don’ wanna disappoint our guests. We got time for this after, though, if you still want.”
You wiggle against him for good measure, not trusting your voice. He groans in your ear and nips it with his teeth. “Now, sugar, behave yourself and I’ll reward you later.”
You shiver and he nudges you forward, urging you to walk. You let him guide you. The cool air of the tunnel of trees gives way to deep warmth of an open space. You tilt your head and Benny lets you. He chuckles as you sun yourself like a cat. He swears he can hear you almost purr under your breath, as the sun soaks into your chilled skin.
“You ready, darlin’?”
“I’m tempted to turn back around into the trees and do something extra naughty with you, where everyone can hear us but no one can see us, but I guess we can go to the party.”
Benny growls under his breath as the front of his body rubs against the back of yours. He leans down and whispers in your ear, “Your filthy little mouth is stirring things in me, chère, that I haven’t felt in a long time. We are definitely gone have some fun later.” He runs the tip of his tongue across the shell of your ear, before gently nipping the flesh there. He loves the way your body reacts when he does this.
Clearing his throat and breaking the spell, he says a little louder, so the others can hear him “Let's get this show on the road”, and slowly removes his hands so your eyes can adjust to the change in light again.
You blink rapidly, to try and clear your blurry vision and you nearly fall backwards as you take in the view in front of you. Thankfully, Benny was still standing close to you and catches you and keeps you on your feet. Your breath hitches as your senses are assaulted on all sides. You gasp, despite yourself.
As your vision adjusts, you take in the view. In front of you is a very very long table. It is adorned with cakes, various drinks, and all sorts of things too pretty to eat. The table is surrounded by chairs, most of them occupied. The ones that aren’t, do have owners and you suspect that they are only empty because the occupants are otherwise mingling with the others.
Benny ushers you to a chair. It isn’t at the head of the table, but really there can’t be a chair there because the table is deceptively round. It should be oval shaped but time and space bend here so it isn’t something you try and wrap your head around. You suspect that if you tried, you’d only induce a headache.
Benny sits next to you, scooting his chair so close to yours that his knee bumps yours. You smile up at him, as he looks down at you, seeking your approval.
All you can really think about is how beautiful he is. Something in your expression must have given him the answer he was seeking because he smiles warmly at you again.
Breaking the spell of the moment, Benny checks his watch and clears his throat. “Time to get this party started,” he says, with a smile. You all but swoon as the light makes his eyes sparkle and the creases next to his eye crinkle just right. He caresses your cheek, and then loudly claps his hands getting everyone’s attention. It happened so fast you aren’t even sure he touched you at all.
The conversations around the table abruptly end and everyone finds their seats.
“Friends, family, ladies, gentlemen, persons of indeterminate gender, and others, our Guest of Honor has finally arrived. Jefferson, if you would direct the tea pourin’, and Dean, if you would direct the food servin’, I will direct the present givin’!” He claps his hands again, as if to drive the points home. Before walking away to direct traffic, he leans down and whispers in your ear, “I can’t give you your gift in polite company, chère. But I’m gonna give you a taste of it a little later.” Before you can respond, he’s already too far away.
Behind you, a table appears, and next to it, a large trash bin. You assume it is for wrapping paper.
Jefferson is the first to walk up to you, so he can attend to his duties. He hands you a large hat box. Inside is a hat of unimaginable beauty. Complimenting your hair and skin tone perfectly. It suits your taste in fancy clothes, and you know you have something to wear, the next time you are invited somewhere formal. You bow your head and thank him. He grasps your hand and kisses the back of it tenderly, before walking away to help serve the tea.
Behind him, a line started to form. Everyone who brought you a gift, slowly filing into place, to wait their turn.
Next approaches Regina Mills. A large clothing bag in her hands. “Miss (Y/L/N), you may want to stand, for this. It is rather long.” She smiles at you. You unzip the bag and almost fall back into your chair. Inside is a dress that matches the hat that Jefferson gifted you. It is your perfect size. Compliments your hair and skin perfectly, and you tell yourself “Say ‘perfect’ one more time” because it is. “Jefferson and I worked together to make a matching set for you. The hat and dress will change shape, size, and color, to suit your needs, taste, and any physical appearance changes that take place. This is the default design.”
You carefully zip the bag back up and lay it on the table. Once it is safely in place you all but run to Regina and wrap your arms around her like it is your saving grace. “Thank you so very much. It is absolutely gorgeous.”
She smiles, kisses your cheek in a fond manner, and returns to her seat. You catch Jefferson’s eye and he winks at you.
John Constantine walk up next, and gifts you a priceless artifact that lets you find whatever realm you need at any given time so you can find your way back to your favorite characters. Like Jefferson, he kisses the back of your hand before walking back to his seat.
Killian Jones gifts you an antique compass and spyglass so you will never get lost. He caresses your cheek, after you hug him, and departs with “You deserve the best, love”, and smiles.
Sherlock Holmes plays a song for you on his violin… one he wrote himself. He doesn’t allow you to thank him, but bows and walks away with a glimmer in his eye you’ve never seen before. He only smiles to himself when he thinks you can’t see him and that was the best gift he could give you because that little smile is so beautiful.
Stephen Strange gifts you a key to his sanctum so you can have a quiet place to study. All you have to do is hold the key, and think about wanting to visit with him, and a doorway will open and portal you through. You look from Stephen to Sherlock and swear they could be brothers. But before you could entertain the thought, Stephen is wrapping his arms around you and his cloak is… his cloak is patting your bottom. You jump back and start laughing. Stephen looks mildly taken aback before he realizes you are batting away the groping “hands” of his cloak and turns to scold it while it tries to float off and away from its master.
Steve Rogers gifts you a gorgeous piece of art he drew himself. It is a portrait of the two of you in a warm embrace. This makes you blush as you stammer out your thank you to him. His ears turn pink. He waits for Bucky to give you his gift, so they can walk back to their seats together.
Bucky Barnes presents you with a metal flower made from a very large bullet casing. “I made this after I shot it out of the sky with my sniper rifle. I kept it a very long time, hoping to gift it to someone special. It is older than you are. I tooled it a little so the edges aren’t rough.” He kisses your cheek. Steve wraps his arm through Bucky’s and they walk back to their seats, leaning into each other like they have secret to share. Both look so happy. You can’t help but grin. As Bucky and Steve walk away, Jefferson passes by them. The three stop and Steve almost does a double take. Jefferson winks at them and Bucky looks as if he is fit to burst into laughter. Steve punches Bucky lovingly on the shoulder and they continue on their way. This causes you to laugh out loud, startling a very adorable little mouse nibbling on a tea cake near your hand, who squeaks at you very loudly, in protest. You gingerly extend an index finger, petting it reassuringly. It goes back to its snack, grumbling under its breath.
Peter Parker swings up to you from somewhere at the other end of the table, using the nearby trees as places to anchor his webbing. He gifts you something to help with your writing. One part magic and two parts science, it resembles a book and it records your dreams and passing thoughts to use for your stories. “Mr. Stark and several of the Inhumans helped me make it,” he tells you. You hug him in thanks and he walks away blushing and so flustered he forgets about swinging back to his seat.
A loud voice announces, “Loki, God of Mischief, Lord of Lies, son of…” and is cut off by an even louder voice… “Would you get on with it, Brother! She knows who you are! Can you believe this guy, announcing himself?” followed by a boisterous laugh. You hear a groan and a very annoyed “Very well” as a green mist makes its way to you. Out of it steps the God, himself. Loki presents you with a gold bracelet that appears to be a snake. He explains that when you are in danger, the snake will come alive and become much larger, to protect you. You embrace him and kiss him soundly on the mouth. To which his brother cheers loudly. You both blush and he walks away with a little pep in his step. You smirk to yourself, quite pleased.
You are taking a break from opening packages, and sipping your tea, waiting for the next person to arrive. As you are sitting here, looking off at nothing in particular, something sleek and metal makes its way to you. You look up, focusing your eyes. It is a very fancy wheelchair with a very large X on both large wheels. The man in the chair is bald and you smile warmly at him. “Charles!” you greet him, brightly. He smiles wide at you, extending both his hands. You place yours in his, and he brings them to his lips like he is greeting an old friend. You then lean down and wrap your arms around his shoulders and he leans into you. “Happy birthday, (Y/F/N). I’m so happy to be here with you.” Charles Xavier’s gift to you is one that is deeply personal. You kneel in front of him, and he presses his forehead against yours. He slowly restores the missing memories of your childhood. The happy ones. Memories from long ago, of your dad boil to the surface. Events you only dreamed about, that faded fast, after waking. Your smile deepens, as the long forgotten memories paint beautiful pictures in your mind’s eye. “Thank you, Charles. That means so much to me”. He kisses your forehead and wheels away.
You sit back in your chair, and bask in the glow of the warm feelings that wash over you from the day you’ve had so far. You know you’ve been here for hours and hours already, opening gifts and interacting with people. You also know that time will pass differently at home and when you return there, it will be as if no time passed at all. You take a sip of sweet tea that never seems to get warm, the ice never melting, and take a bite of something that looks like roses but tastes like strawberry shortcake. You hum in approval.
As you finish your snack, two bodies approach. Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Wanda smiles warmly at you, and Pietro leans down kissing your cheek. Before you can blink, he presents you with a small box. Inside the box are what appear to be wedding bands. Wanda, feeling your confusion, explains. “We are twins, and because of this, and because of the experiments done on us, we are basically soul bonded. Closer than your typical twins, we both can literally feel each other’s heartbeats. I always know where he is in the world, and he is the same.” Pietro picks up where Wanda left off, without missing a beat. “Most humans can’t do that, so we thought that when or if you find someone you’d want to be that close to, this would be the perfect way. They can be worn as wedding bands, or if your soulbond isn’t a romantic one, they can be worn on any finger. They adjust in size and when both of you are wearing them, you can feel each other’s heartbeats and know where each other are.” “They are made of vibranium, infused with my magic. When you wear them, they will glow red, much like my magic does,” Wanda finishes. “That is amazing. Thank you!” You aren’t sure what else to say. The rings are truly a very thoughtful and personal gift. You stand and embrace the two of them, tightly. They walk off, arms linked, the air around them swirling with Wanda’s magic, sending out happy vibes. You sit back down and brush your fingertips over the rings. A flow of red, washes over them where your fingers make contact, and then subsides. You close the box and set it on the table in front of you.
As the twins walk away, a figure saunters up. He bows, takes your hand, and kisses the back of it like you are old lovers and he is reliving a wonderful memory of the coupling. This causes you to turn a deep shade of red and your body heats up. “Hello gorgeous. When Benny told me this shindig was for you, I decided to dress in my best finery.” Remy LeBeau steps back and extends his arms in a dramatic manner, as if presenting himself to you and you take him in. He’s wearing a black satin top hat, with a belt of red just above where the brim starts. The rest of his ensemble is a three piece thing with coat tails. The coat is a fancier, tailored version of his light brown trench coat. The jacket underneath is black satin. The vest is a deep shade of red. The shirt is also black, but not as deep as the hat or jacket. He isn’t wearing a tie and the collar of his shirt is open down to the edges of the vest, revealing a thick dusting of chest hair.
Your jaw all but hits the floor. “I figured I’d go with something classic,” he says with a smirk. You aren’t sure what to say but you are pretty sure you are drooling a little. He steps closer to you and your breath hitches. He leans down and whispers in your ear, his lips brushing your skin there “My gift cannot be given just yet. You must wait for it. I will be joining you and Benny later tonight.” His lips brush your cheek. You want to respond but you aren’t sure what to say. You do notice that he doesn’t go back to his original place at the table and pulls up a chair next to yours. You want to faint.
Spencer Reid walks up to you, hands you a book of his favorite poetry, wishes you a happy birthday, with his hand on your shoulder. You touch his hand, squeezing it in thanks and he walks away with a smile on his face. You flip open the book, and inside he’s written a little note on the first page. “Beautiful words, for a beautiful soul.” - SR
Sam and Dean Winchester make their way to you, followed by Castiel. Sam hands you a leather bound book, with a dragon on the front cover. Inside is a catalogue of all the monsters they’ve encountered so far. The book should be really heavy but it surprisingly isn’t. Dean gifts you a small dagger. It has runes carved into the blade, handle, and leather sheath. “It is meant to fit between your boobs, behind the center thing in your bra. Sam helped with the symbols. They are for protection and keep you hidden from demons. Cas helped with the blade. It's made from an angel blade.” He gestures to you and you nod your permission. He slips the small dagger between your breasts, fingertips lightly brushing your skin, drawing out the necessity for them being there. You shiver a little and the tips of Dean’s ears turn pink. You almost want to tell him “more”, but Sam clears his throat and grins at you both. When Dean is finished, he looks up at you and makes a face that resembles that of a proud child, showing his mother a drawing he did. You stand and hug the three of them. Castiel presents you with a necklace. The chain is silver and the pendent is too. It is an anti possession symbol. “I made this from the remnants from making the blade for Dean.” He places it around your neck and it sits right above where the handle of the dagger pokes out from your cleavage. You hug him again. He blushes a little and hugs you back. Sam and Cas walk back to their spots at the table and Dean makes his way to wherever they keep carting in food from. You assume to is to make sure whatever dinner foods that are going to be served, are on time.
More people show up. More faces you know from the stories, TV shows, and movies you love, but it all starts to blur together. You aren’t sure how you are going to get everything back to your home or how you are going to explain all the new things to those you live with, but you are so happy at how the day is turning out, that you don’t care.
As the line winds down, and you finally get a break to yourself, you are lost in thought for a while. After what feels like an hour or more, Benny appears next to you. He claps his hands loudly, getting everyone’s attention.
“Thank you, everyone, for bringing your gifts. Now that that is done, it is time for dinner! Dean, if you would?”
You hear from somewhere in the back, “Yeah, brother. Everything is ready.”
And with that, several people spring into action as food it brought out to the table, from the treeline surrounding the clearing where your party is being held.
All the food being set out has a something for everyone. Your favorites, and the favorites of all the people present. A smile plays on your lips at the beauty of it all. You sit back in your chair and wait for all the food to be placed. Once everything is where it should be, Benny sits down in his chair, looks over to Remy with twinkle in his eye, and announces “Everyone, dig in!”
You don’t know why, but this makes your skin heat up and you feel flushed. You begin to pile food on your plate and enjoy the meal.

MEET THE PARENTS
(requested by anon)
Kai Parker x Reader  ( x Klaus Mikaelson & Caroline Forbes)
WORD COUNT : 1890
AU : Klaus is still a hybrid , Caroline is born from a werewolf bloodline and they have a child together. Caroline dies in childbirth breaking Klaus’ heart but just when everyone think she is dead , Caroline wakes up and they realise that she had died with the baby’s blood (who has Klaus’ vampire blood) in her system. Later on she turns into a vampire.  Years go by and Reader grows up into a young woman. After Kai gets out of the Prison world , he meets Reader and falls in love with her.   *not my gif __________________________ Kai thought the day Bonnie finally let him out of the Prison World she had him stuck in for over 20 years was the happiest day in his life , but he was wrong. The happiest day in his life wasn’t the day he had gotten his revenge on the Gemini coven , it wasn’t even the day thanks to the Maxwell bell he got out of Hell either. No. The happiest day was when Kai had met her. Y/N. Kai had spent his first few weeks back enjoying every moment. Even the people walking and talking loudly on the streets made him feel happy , it was so nice to hear the buzzing sound of conversations , laughter … to see people running around like ants.  None of the things that usually would bother him did. Kai sat on a  bench in the town square , that’s when he first saw her. There was something different about her , in the way she walked and looked at the world around her. She sat on a bench not far away from him , letting a small pile of books down next to her. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from her. At some point she looked in his direction and smiled. What kind of a person smiles at a complete stranger ? he thought looking around to see if there was someone else. There wasn’t. She took one of her books , opened it and started reading. Kai waited a few minutes. The girl had peeked his interest , so he decided to go and talk to her. “Hi.” he said smiling at the girl. “Do you mind if I … Can I sit here?” She glanced at him and nodded with a smile. “Sure. I’m just waiting for my mom.” said closing the book. “Are you new in town ?” “Um no … not really.” Telling someone you’ve spent the past 20 somewhat years locked away in a magical prison world was not the way to start a good conversation , he thought to himself. “ I’ve been away for a while.” he laughed nervously. “Sorry , manners. I’m Kai.” he said outstreching a hand to shake hers. “Y/N.” the girl said smiling , shaking his hand. Suddenly Kai felt all warm and fuzzy. What was happening to him ? Something wasn’t right… but at the same time deep down he knew that finally in his life something was right. He sneaked a peek at the book Y/N was reading. A school book about history. She noticed him starring at it. “Using every free moment to study.” Y/N laughed nervously. They talked for a while and every time Y/N smiled or laughed Kai got the same warm and fuzzy feeling , his heart beating a little bit faster.Y/N glared in the distance. “Oh there she is.” she said starting to gather her books. “My mom , I mean.” she added after seeing Kai’s confused expression. He followed her gaze and saw someone familiar but definitely not friendly walking towards them. “Yeah , I have to go too.” Kai said starting to get up but he was too late. Caroline was standing a few steps away from him and Y/N. He prepared for the inevitable burst of anger from her. “What are you doing talking to my daughter !?” Caroline nearly screamed at Kai , yanking Y/N’s hand away from him. Kai looked confused. She was Caroline’s daughter ? What ?! Caroline looked pretty much the same as the last time he’d seen her. It wasn’t possible , was it ? “It’s OK , mom.He is a friend of mine.” Y/N said calmly , looking embarrassed. “Sorry , over protective mom.” she added. Kai’s eyes darted between her and her mother , clear shock on his face. Of all the people in this town … What are the chances ?! he thought “He is NOT a friend. That’s Kai who put that awful spell on Elena and he is the reason why Bonnie will never get to see her again !” Kai started to say something but Caroline didn’t let him. “Stay away from my daughter!” Y/N turned towards him mouthing “Ignore her. I’ll call you later.”  *** (A few hours later …) *** Kai had expected Y/N to reject him. Caroline clearly would’ve told her everything about him , all the things he had done … so the surprise when Y/N walked ino the Grill and headed straight for him with a smile on her face was huge for him. “So ..” she started “ I realised something on my way home. We never exchanged phone numbers.” Y/N laughed , starring at Kai’s startled expression. He laughed , unsure what was happening. “I just … I just assumed after Caroline told you who I was , my past… ” he said trailing off , still unable to believe that Y/N had come back looking for him. “Oh please , my father has done worse things.” she smiled. “Plus I am not one to judge…and I really want to get to know you.” “I want to get to know you too.” Kai said smiling too. They spent the rest of the evening talking , laughing and learning about each other. Y/N was a witch , just like him but she also had the werewolf gene. Kai told her about his family , his childhood , the Prison worlds (tho he was vague about it) ; how he had turned into a vampire but being a siphon before he was now both , a hybrid. He felt like he could tell her anything which was new to him and the more they talked , the more this warm and fuzzy feeling he had in his stomach grew bigger. It took him a few moments to realise what this feeling was , he had only experienced it once in his life but it hadn’t worked out. Suddenly all Kai wanted was to kiss Y/N , pull her close and never let her go.
“Hey , we are closing up in a few minutes.” said the bartender. Kai looked at the clock. Was it really nearly 11.30PM ? Y/N looked at him , disappointment on her face. Clearly she didn’t want the night to end yet either. Kai thought about compelling the bartender to let them say longer but he decided against it. As much as he wanted to spend more time with her , it wasn’t the right thing to do at the time. They walked outside. There was a slight chill in the air but it was still warm. “I don’t want to go home yet.” Y/N said smiling , “Do you want to take a late night walk with me?” Kai smiled and nodded. Y/N started walking away but he grabbed her hand , making her turn and face him. He couldn’t wait any longer… “There is something I’ve wanted to do all evening.” Kai said , touching her face. Y/N’s heart beating faster than ever with every second. He leaned in and kissed her softly , before pulling away. They stared at each other for a few moments, Kai trying to understand her reaction but her face was unreadable. He started to get worried he had overstepped or that she didn’t feel the same away about him and just when was about to start apologising , Y/N wrapped her hands around his neck and kissed him , pulling him closer to him. He pulled her closer too , kissing her deeply letting all he wanted to say but couldn’t to be said by the kiss.
***   ***
They kept their relationship a secret because Y/N’s mother didn’t approve of Kai.  She didn’t care tho. They loved each other and were happy together , it is all that mattered to her. About a month after they had started dating Y/N only told one other person - her father , Klaus Mikaelson. Somehow she felt he’d understand it and he did. After all he knew all about being the bad guy and changing into a better person. However , he was still her father and Klaus Mikaelson… “If he hurts you in any way, I will rip his head off.” he had told her. “Be sure to get in line , I think mom might beat you to it.” Y/N had said , laughing nervously before her dad had hugged her. Eventually Caroline accepted she can’t control her daughter and has to let her deal with things on her own. She still didn’t approve of the relationship but if it was what made Y/N happy …
*** (About 3 months later …) ***
It was Thanksgiving , Kai’s favorite holiday and Y/N ’s family had invited him over for dinner. He had been reluctant to say YES at first , but Y/N convinced him and he had to admit , he was curious to get to know her family. She had talked about her uncle Elijah and his wife Hayley,  about her other uncle Kol and her two aunts - Freya and Rebekah. To him her family seemed perfect even tho Y/N corrected him every time. “It’s not perfect.” she’d say. “Maybe perfectly disfunctional but we stick together , always & forever.” Still seems perfect to me. Kai thought.
In the evening Y/N had gone to Kai’s house. She couldn’t stay away from him for more than a few hours and he was more than happy to have her around. He was dead but Y/N made him feel alive , more alive than when he had actually been alive.
“What if your dad doesn’t like me? I mean … I know your mother hates my guts for all the stuff I did to Elena and .. Bon Bon but…” said Kai nervously. Y/N fixed his tie. “He will like you” she said smiling. “Trust me…” Y/N took his hand and they headed for the Mikaelsons.
When they arrived , Klaus and Caroline were in the living room talking. Klaus shot up straight and headed towards them the moment Y/N and Kai walked inside. “Its about time you brought your boyfriend for a visit.” said Klaus looking very serious. “My lovely wife ” he said motioning to Caroline , who had a glass with wine in her hand. “tells me you are a pshychotic killer…” Y/N’s eyes widened. “Dad !” She knew this dinner party was going to be awkward but this was exceeding expectations awkward. “You promised-” Kai felt even more nervous than before and a little scared. Klaus was an Original and could easily compell him or kill him. He decided not to show his fear and instead he laughed and squeezed Y/N’s hand. “I was , but since I met Y/N … things started to change. She makes me a better person.” he said turning to meet her eyes. She smiled and wrapped her hands around him. It was the truth. Y/N was making him a better person and even tho he liked who he was before , Kai liked even more who she was changing him into. Caroline scoffed rolling her eyes. “People don’t change that fast , Kai. I swear if -” “Sweetheart , ” Klaus interruped her. “I thought we’d agreed to give him a chance first. You gave me one , remember ?” Caroline finished her glass with wine at once , glanced at Klaus and said “Fine. One chance.” then she turned to Kai. “If you screw up , you are dead.” Kai swallowed hard and nodded. “Got it.” Klaus laughed and pulled Kai into a hug. “Welcome to the family , Malachai Parker.”

The Vampire Diaries 814 Recap “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride” #TVD #KilltheDevil
Episode grade: 10. Pure perfection.
All week long, I was both looking forward to and dreading Friday night, because one of my all-time favorite shows is coming to an end…but man, it’s going out strong.
We start with Cade menacing Damon for another crappy deal (all Cade’s deals suck, because he is literally the devil). This time, Cade wants his dagger back–you know, the one thing that could kill him. And of course, Damon’s going to play along, because Cade has Elena’s coffin, delivered helpfully by Kai.
Elsewhere, Bonnie’s throwing herself into the beautiful pocket dimension she’s able to access, in which she and Enzo can be together. Stefan ignores the “if my dreamland’s a-knockin’” sign and starts bugging her with his guilty conscience. She’s all, Not my problem, brah, and I don’t blame her a bit. Enzo’s a little more forgiving, though, and he urges her to let Stefan off the hook.
Rebuffed by Bonnie and continuing to wallow in his self-pity, Stefan is about to bail on everyone. He agrees to put his broody walkabout on hold when Damon asks him to help get Elena back from Cade. First step: Find Kai Parker.
TVD, I love you. I love you for so many things over the last eight years, but right now, I love you for making time in your final episodes for the delightful insanity of Kai Parker doing karaoke, tweeting (under the amazing handle CobraKai1972) in what can only be described as (ahem) presidential fashion, and hilariously refusing to pronounce Stefan’s name correctly.
Stefan gets stabbed through the hand (this is important), but Damon steps in to take Kai down. They drag Kai into the Armory and toss him in a cell. Alaric is gravely displeased at having his archenemy back under his roof. Of course, Alaric has other things on his mind right now; his daughters have been going all Firestarter.
With Kai stashed away, and the devil dagger in hand, Damon and Stefan head out to find Cade. At the last minute, Stefan insists he has to be the one to kill Cade, because atonement yadda yadda. Damon rationally points out that hey, I’m still a vampire, and you’re not, so of the two of us, I’ve got a much better chance at actually pulling this off. But Stefan is determined to be the hero, so he actually vervains Damon, and OMG Stefan you selfish jackass. Here’s where Stefan’s hand injury is an issue for me. He’s not only mortal, he’s got a freshly maimed stabbing hand. He’s refusing help killing the devil when he’s not even at full strength for a human.
To be fair, he does have something of a plan…he’s tasked Alaric with ringing the Maxwell hell bell. Since Alaric isn’t part of the Maxwell family line, he won’t be able to access the bell’s full power, but Stefan correctly guesses that the bell’s ringing will at least cause Cade some pain. (I’m choosing to ignore the minor plot hole about how the bell was deconstructed and taken away, yet is now back in the tower. I mean, Bonnie and Enzo had it with them, but her house was stolen from her, so it’s not a safe place anymore…and I am pretty sure Peter Maxwell had taken another component of the bell with him when he left town…but you know what? Screw it. Given the choice between expository dialogue about the bell or Kai Parker singing “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” at karaoke, I'll pick the latter every time.)
Speaking of our favorite evil scion of the Gemini coven, Kai and Caroline are having a heart-to-heart about her daughters, who are also, of course, Kai’s nieces. They’re siphons, just like him, and he offers Caroline a personal perspective on the crazy crap her kids are pulling lately. He tells her about growing up a magic-siphoning abomination, treated with disdain and fear, an embarrassment to his magical royal family. Being shut away and ignored, watching as his twin sister was nurtured in her gifts. Occasionally getting a blast of magic when he was able to siphon it from someone or something, and feeling like a druggie the rest of the time, desperate for more. It’s a powerful monologue, subtle and intense, and Caroline is as captivated as the audience is.
Then Kai explains that the reason her kids are suddenly out of control is that they’ve been dumped into an environment so full of magical artifacts, they simply can’t be expected to control their siphoning. He says a place like the Armory practically has magic in its walls…and then he demonstrates by siphoning the very glass that separates him from Caroline. Kai is out, loose in the Armory.
Right now, Alaric is dutifully ringing the hell bell, and it’s basically doing what Stefan thought. Cade is vulnerable, and Stefan’s got a shot here…until Alaric’s phone rings. Josie and Lizzie are calling for their daddy, because Kai is coming after them with an axe. Alaric walks away from the bell without a second glance, and Cade’s back on his feet.
Cade’s about to kill Stefan, but here comes Damon to save the day. Except that Cade already has the dagger now, and he still has Elena, and now he has Stefan as well. Damon has no leverage in this situation. Cade laughs that he’ll give Damon this much: Damon can choose whether it will be Stefan or Elena who dies today. Damon can’t accept this choice, so he asks Cade to take him instead. Cade agrees, requiring Damon to stake himself. Stefan, you know this is your fault, right?
Bonnie feels the psychic ripples of the danger to Elena, and she follows the feeling to where Cade is about to collect Damon’s soul. Bonnie says, Oh hell no, and she and Cade get into a psychic battle. The beauty of a psychic battle is that the opponents are too busy to do anything else…leaving Cade far more vulnerable to attack. Stefan finally does something right, and the devil is dead.
Back at the Armory, Kai’s stalking the girls, because not being the only surviving member of the Gemini coven is kind of a sore spot for him. He follows their voices into the Siren cave, then siphons away the magical wall Beatrice Bennett put up so long ago…except he hasn’t found the girls, he’s found Ric, pulling a pretty neat trick with his phone on speaker. Ric gets in a good punch or two, but he’s a little outgunned under the circumstances. Fortunately, Caroline is awake from Kai’s neck-snap nap, and she saves the day.
Damon, magically blown back into his body by Bonnie’s psychic rage storm, is able to convince Stefan to stick around and not be a self-pitying jackass for a few minutes. I mean, we’ll see how long before the full-bore brooding starts back up, but for now, Stefan is able to appreciate the miracle of the life he almost lost…presumably because they’re all operating with the belief that killing the devil also destroyed hell, so they’re no longer living with damnation hanging over them. Funny how Stefan is suddenly less ravaged by guilt now that he thinks he’ll escape punishment. He proposes to Caroline all over again, and she says yes, even though she and Ric seemed to be having a moment, and Ric is so totally the better man on every level.
(Also, Stefan is all excited about the future he sees as possible now, and he’s yammering about how great it will be to grow old and help raise kids, and be with his best friend? What best friend? He doesn’t mean Caroline, because he listed her separately in the marriage portion of the speech, and he doesn’t mean Damon, because he has always consistently called Damon his brother. Lexi’s dead, and that’s the only best friend I was aware of…I’m confused.)
Kai awakens, chained to a chair, in the karaoke dive bar from earlier. The delightful 90’s song, “Two Princes,” is starting up. Kai clearly doesn’t like this song as much as I do. Bonnie relishes the moment as she fills Kai in on his new normal: He’s in a new prison dimension, built to approximate his personal idea of suffering. All alone, no magic to siphon, no tricky escape hatches to work on, with a song he hates that will never stop playing.
But Kai has a parting gift for Bonnie, too: the truth about hell. Killing the devil didn’t destroy hell; sure, Cade created hell, but perhaps it took on a life of its own, nourished by the imaginations of all the people who feared it. Or perhaps a pocket dimension simply doesn’t exist in the head or at the whim of its creator; maybe, once created, it’s a true place that can’t be unmade so easily. If the latter, I would like to point out that Bonnie’s new pocket dimension is not simply a place to keep Enzo safe; it might be the place where all her loved ones can spend eternity–the new version of the Other Side!
But I digress. Kai’s revelation to Bonnie continues: Hell is still very much a real place, and there’s someone else who was waiting for Cade to be deposed so that they could step into the top dog spot. Gee, who else do we know who was that bad? Who absolutely went to hell, rather than to the Other Side?
You got it.
Granted, this raises another question about how bad someone had to be to wind up in hell rather than the Other Side–remember that Silas was on the Other Side, and he was as bad as they come! But that’s a minor aside, and I’m more than okay with it. Katherine is coming back to remind us why she’s “the baddest bitch of them all,” and I can’t think of a more fitting story arc to carry us into the bittersweet ending of this gorgeous series.
Finally, can we talk about the gift to villainy and television and acting that was Chris Wood's portrayal of Kai Parker?
I don’t know that I’ve ever enjoyed a villain more. Chris Wood is masterful, chilling and hilarious by turns, impossible not to pay attention to every moment he’s on screen. I don’t like Kai, obviously, but I love having Kai around. With every other villain we’ve had on TVD, I’ve been thrilled to see them breathe their last. By the time our heroes vanquished the Travelers, or Silas, or fricking awful Julian, I was cheering to have them gone. With Kai, even though he’s terrible, even though it’s clearly good that they’ve bested him!, I’m sorry to see him go.
