Make Me Feel Alive Again - the fanmix ;-)

I love making fanmixes to go with stories. Because I enjoyed talking about music with @kelyon so much, I decided to not skip on that tradition this Secret Santa!

While I shall try not to over-analyze or be too verbose about the song choices, we all know intent is meaningless and this might get wordier than I like. Apologies in advance.

The fanmix opens with (the only) Japanese song in the mix, the title song from the movie Suzume (which I have yet to see) but which encapsulates the magical and sweet mood I wanted perfectly. Furthermore, I often start fanmixes with instrumental or foreign songs I don't understand so the writing begins before I get swept away in English lyrics and they can't distract me from writing anymore.

There's a few songs in the category "sexy songs", including Close to You by Neon Trees and Wicked Games by the Weeknd. Sadly they couldn't inspire me to write smut. (But I blame covid for that.)

Then there are a few songs that go perfectly with the theme of the story itself - "make me feel alive again" - Black Roses Red by Alana Grace was my first choice, because it fits so well, but there's also Hearts a Mess by Gotye and Every Time it Rains by Charlotte Martin. (I love her. She's so good.)

I added an Alanis Morissette song which I quite like - Torch - which helped set the mood for the second bit of the story. And I know kelyon likes Alanis too, so yeay!

Then furthermore, I also added in three songs which have Belgian roots, where chances are higher these are new songs to you which fit Rumbelle quite well. Hearts a Mess by Gotye is one (though Gotye is only born in Belgium but spent most of his life in Australia, so he's not particularly known as a Belgian artist internationally), Believe in Me by Zornik, a band that has its roots twenty minutes from where I live - and which is such a beautiful song that fits Rumbelle well. (There's also another version of the song out there, not-acoustic, which you might wanna check out. And plenty of other Zornik songs are great.) And then I finished the entire fanmix with You Always Know Your Home by Ozark Henry and Sarah Bettens, two of the greatest musicians we have in this little country.

There's a few other songs in there, maybe more filler or generalized Rumbelle-feelings-inducing - like the Rob Thomas song or the supersad song from Lamb - and I couldn't not include Snow Patrol, one of my fav bands.

I hope you enjoy giving the songs a listen, and that maybe you find some new songs to inspire you as well! Thanks for being my giftee this year, kelyon!

What do you think about the new Mario movie trailer?

I've only seen it once, but it looks amazing.

Hard to say what hasn't been said. the music sounds great, the world they're presenting looks awesome and I am so down for it, and of course the animation is amazing and packed with references.

It's just that the casting is so wack. the voices don't really fit the characters (except bowser). and I know it's too late in the process to change the voices now, but someone's gotta dub it or something

Whump Community's OC's As Figure Skating Programs, Part 1

So, I ended up doing this! Yeay! This is a combination of how I feel about the program/character, or if the colors of the costumes(or in some cases the appearance of the skaters) reminds me of them. Anyways, without further explanation, here are the first five programs:

1. Evgenia Medvedeva, 2017-18 Short Program, River Flows In You, as @ashintheairlikesnow 's Chris

This program, as stated by the skater herself, portrays the transition from teenage years to adulthood. And as for Chris, it reminds me of his journey from his late teens to where he is now, as a young man. The beginning of the program shows the skater as a naive child. Playing around and having fun. Like Chris before his parents' death. Just a teenager doing his own thing. But towards the middle, the music piece changes to a slower tone. Kind of darker, and the skaters stops smiling and playing and doing childish stuff. It reminds me of Chris during his time in the facility and with Oliver. Numb, still, and the statue boy. But again, the music picks up, and we see the skater's smile and happy ending after the last spin. And that's when Chris's recovery happens, and he learns to love the world.

Also, the color of the costume is 100% Chris. So, there's that too.

(I literally read your new Chris piece just after deciding this would be Chris's program, and my heart shattered)

2. Satoko Miyahara, 2019-20 Free Skate, Schindler's List, as @whump-it 's Callum

This program, in my eyes, starts on sadness. Then it progresses towards confusion, numbness, and maybe a bit of inner anger. As it gets near the end, we start seeing a little smile on the skater's face. Flickers of hope. Hopes saying that I can get better, I can heal. And just in the last moment, we see the skater open her arms towards the world, embracing it. Embracing her recovery, and her life. And I think that fits Callum just so.

Also, in my mind's eye, Callum's color has always been some shades of gray. And the costume fits that as well.

3. Anna Shcherbakova, 2019-20 Free Skate, Firebird, as @orchidscript 's Henry

The actual meaning and story behind this program is about a peacock turning to a bright burning firebird. This reminds of Henry. Vulnerable and docile, while with Mariana and Caldwell. Just a pretty thing to show off. Just like the little peacock. But his inner anger finally explodes and starts shining and pushing him forwards in life. Like the firebird in the second half of the program.

4. Rika Kihira, 2018-19 Free Skate, Beautiful Storm, as @wildfaewhump 's Iesin

This program has major nature vibes, as the name itself(Beautiful Storm) suggests. And the skater's movements reminds me of fae rituals and dances. It also ends on a happy note. The ending in my opinion, represents the calm after the storm ends. Like Iesin's life after he gets away with Talvos.

Also, the embroidery and stones on the costumes looks like the shiny stuff that fae might collect.

5. Daisuke Takahashi, 2019 Exhibition, Phoenix, as @spookyboywhump 's Zander

I don't have big theory for this, the program just gives me angry boi Zander vibes. Like, it feels like the skater is just about punching someone square in the jaw. Sorry for cutting it short😅

I hope you guys are not annoyed by this. I'll post the next part tomorrow. Feel free to send me descriptions of your OC's so that I can find a program for them as well!

My Rant: Diving Deeper into K-Pop

WOW!

It’s literally been months since I posted.

This time, I want to share may latest update in which I’m very excited about. One of my favorite topics to talk about, Yes, it’s K-Pop (YEAY!!)

While stanning BTS, Got7, and EXO as hard as I could, I managed to fit more gorups to the stanning list. And boy are they great! Shall we dive?

The journey began with SuperM. Yes, THAT SuperM. The super group ensambled by Lee Soo Man himself. News gone viral, I couldn’t help but notice. I originally didn’t want to check their music as I was not looking for more gorup to stan. BUT!! The music video of their title song, Jopping,was always on my youtube homepage consistently.

Then I checked the video on the third day it’s being shown on my homepage.

To say I was surprised is an understatement. I was amazed to say the least. There was this one part that made me think this is it, this is the BOP i’ll bang my head to.

And that particular part was NCT Taeyong’s first verse.

Long story short, Jopping became my most played song of 2019 (this is legit data from my apple music, BTW). And the song was released on August. Imagine.

Not stopping in SuperM, I started to want to know more of the members other groups; NCT.

Yep, now I stan NCT too! All of them units.

I’ve already known that this group called NCT exists. I also know some of their units pre SuperM. I know that there is NCT Dream, since I played the SM Superstar game back in the days. But I didn’t know the concept of NCT or any of their member except for Taeyong.

Another journey began when I discovered that I’ve been knowing NCT Ten the whole time through his dancing. I’ve watched all of Ten’s Hit The Stage performances and his dance videos. But I knew him as Ten. Not Ten of NCT. I thought he is legit a pro dancer :O

Then I declared I am an NCTzen, for life :)

But hey! We cannot talk about NCT without mentioning WayV. Yes, them too. Never have I ever even imagined that I will be stanning a Chinese boy group. But look at me know. Pfft. I’m even singing along to their songs.

Phew. Writing this, makes my adrenaline go high.

DREAMS COME TRUE!! I waited 18 years for this moment to come true. Thank you Westlife! I joined the contest at the very last minute. Joanne remind me twice to enter the contest run by Popular Bookstore (under Universal Music Malaysia). To be honest, when they called to inform that I won, I gave my phone to my mom cos I was helping my dad at the atm machine and when I heard mom said Universal Music, I took the phone from her and immediately asked "is it good news" hahaha I was jumping at tesco trying to hold myself from screaming but who cares actually I was already made a little jumping like a mad woman. Like I said the Gravity Tour was amazing but The Twenty Tour is incredible, maybe because it wasn't the only reunion for us Lifers but also I get to meet my Irish boyfriends! I repeat my Irish boyfriends! So Peyton DMed me asking who I like and of course it's gotta be Mark and yeay she likes Nicky and we just need to find the girl for Shane and Kian haha so I told Peyton to DM Eda and yeah Eda is Shane's girl and all that left now is to find Kian's girl. So we met Fatimah when we were getting ready for the m&g. And Kian was all hers haha We waited like one and a half hour, the lads were late cos they were caught in traffic but it really worth the wait you know. We waited 8 years for em to comeback after their last farewell tour, so to waiting for another hour wasn't a big deal. We heard car brakes form the basement so we all like the lads are here. Then we heard another car brakes, so yeah the lads are really here. Then a crowd came in and Nicky's loud voice singing and they were really in front of us heading to the photo room, and then Mark came out and say something I don't remember what it was, all I remember I was screaming then when it was our turn. I shake Nicky's hand first, then Shane came and gave out his hand to shake, it was like "is he competing with Nicky" lol he can just stand there until I approached him but he was so nice, then I saw my man Mark, he was so tall and big and so cute God I love him. And then I saw Kian, man I was so startruck. Kian is so handsome in face to face. The plan is ruined man. I want to stand next to Marky but look at the picture I was standing more to Kian's side hahaha for a moment I thought I was hugging Kian and then Yu Heng said "no la your hand is at your waist" seriously I don't know where to put my hand. It feels like I was floating in the air and somehow I ended up next to Kian lol The crew rushed us so we can go back to our seats quickly. Then we waited for another girls to be escorted to our seats. For a moment it felt like we were VIP, when they took us to the basement, we walked past all the fans that are still queuing to get in. There was this guy from group one said 'i feel like we all are going to prison" lol and not to mention that we forgot our bags also, we came back to retrieve it and I really need water that time. Thank goodness they still selling water outside the entrance. We really had fun that night. Screaming and singing and the funniest part is when Shane told us to sing the chorus for Swear It Again, we sang nicely but when we get to the third line, everyone messed up, it was the wrong lyrics hahaha now I can't wait for the Spectrum Tour! And guys sorry if I don't recognize some of you. But it was really fun to meet the familiar faces and making new friends. Cheers to the future Westlife concerts and I'm glad that we at least had our own group photo :) xoxo

Broken to Love You

What is wrong with walking around with a broken heart?

Like naisip ko lang -- broken hearts have always been perceived as negative it is highly associated to the negative. Bale yung kapag broken-hearted ka, ang mga description eh laging “guguho na yung mundo”, “hindi ko kayang mabuhay pa”, “wala na akong reason sumaya”. And generally pati yung actions/reactions natin would be on the negative -- hindi makakain, hindi makatulog and walang gana sa buhay.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m not trying to minimize the pain of a broken-heart (hellooo puso ko wasak na wasak right now parang kay Nasty Mac 😂) nor am I saying na dapat tayong magpa-party kapag masakit ang puso natin.

I’m just asking 😊 I’m actually thinking could there be something more to this pain? << tanong ko yan sa self ko hahaha

Habang nakikinig ako ng Sunrise ng Ben&Ben kapahon, bigla ko na lang naisip “HOMAYGAAAHD I just can't begin to say / understand / whatever it is — what am I doing with my life — what am I doing to myself”

It really hit me kahapon na I was in so much pain. Sobrang baba ng luha ko na I was silently crying sa Grab with all the mega thoughts in my head, the pain in my heart and my sappy playlist (hindi nakatulong yung BG music ko hahaha)

Even as I write this, I am still in pain.

Much of it, feeling ko I brought it upon myself. I guess may mga bagay na pwede namang iwasan tulad ng pag-hohol kht alam m nmang hindi magwowork-out or pag-amin ng feelings or pouring yourself out to a person (emotionally or physically or any --ally) ng wala naman kayong pormal na ugnayan or trying to talk to/ reach out to a person kahit parang hindi ka naman nya gusto munang makausap or trying to be friends again agad - showing na it wasn’t a big deal and parang nothing happened or walking away without saying anything.

Kayang-kaya iwasan, pero dapat ba?

I mean should these experiences be avoided?

Hindi kaya at that time, we just didn’t know any better? Or kahit alam natin what it could be, we just wanted to risk and see na maybe, just maybe, it could be a different story? Or baka it’s really smthng that we’re meant to go through to reach a better state - to see a better day?

Besh, hindi ko din alam (hahahahaha)

Pero in between feeling sh*t, pleading to God (for help and guidance) and pag-iyak sa corner -- I’m finding hope.

I’m seeing a ray of sunshine dun sa thought na “..baka it’s really smthng that we’re meant to go through..” which kung tutuusin mo, cya ang mother ng “..at that time, we just didn’t know any better” at “..kahit alam natin what it could be, we just wanted to risk and see na maybe, just maybe, it could be a different story”

Parang there’s an element of purpose -- na it was meant to be -- and the story doesn’t end with the pain or the circumstance that brought about the pain.

R u feelin’ meeeh? Does it make sense?

If it’s meant to be, it will always find a way.

So kung umamin ka ng feelings mo at sinabihan ka ng thank you, take it and continue to walk boldly in your life. As you walk, allow your fragile heart to mend through music, writing, going on adventures, meeting new people, joining an advocacy, learning new things, anything that suits you -- basta by opening your heart (and not hiding away)

Na kahit gaano ka-fragile at ka-beaten yung heart mo -- tumitibok pa cya. At hindi cya hihinto na tumanggap at magbigay ng pagmamahal sa maraming tao at sa maraming bagay kahit gulagulanit na cya because your heart is a muscle. Kaya niyang mag “muscle memory” -- na kahit anong sakit -- basta patuloy mo cyang gagamitin -- patuloy mo cyang ippractice, “mag-eexpand” yung capacity nya to give and receive.

By giving bits and pieces of it along the way makikita mo hindi lang ikaw ang may wasak na puso sa mundong ito. Their broken pieces might help mend yours and your broken parts might help theirs too.

I know it’s difficult to think of others, much more love them, when we don’t even have the will/courage/strength to do so for yourself. I remember in Luke 6:32 sabi “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.” -- let’s work on loving ourselves even if we think/feel that we are unlovable. Let’s try to love others and other things (apart from our own pains and hurt) kahit hindi natin alam kng paano or hindi pa natin makita or wala tayong idea paano magsimula. Small acts of love/appreciation/concern/gratitude/courage can go a long way.

This applies din sa sarili mo -- if feeling mo nagkamali ka, patawarin mo ang sarili mo. Hindi madali but work on forgiving yourself. Feel like locking yourself in the room to wallow in sadness? If friends invite at pwede ka naman, sama ka -- kht naka all black ka haha if you’d rather stay in, put on some good music, read, sing your heart out, write, start a passion project, take a hot or cold bath, wear smthng comfy or anything that would make you feel good. Hindi ka makakain with all the feelings? Take snacks - ideally healthy or try shakes/smoothies. Drink lots of water. Feed yourself - be kind to yourself - show yourself some love - you need it and you deserve it ❤️

Maybe it’s time for us to be an army of broken people trying/working in our small ways to help build/mend others.

Baka hindi naman natin kailangan maging perfect to be able to love/do good/bring joy to ourselves and others.

Parang naalala ko lang yung “I will be happy when I…” tas dugtungan m ng anong gusto mo ma-achieve para maging happy ka na like “...have a jowa, get promoted, get an increase, go to another country, buy a bigger house, get a new car, etc.”

I guess it’s not that

I think in every moment, there is an opportunity to find joy even in the most difficult of times or the darkest of days -- if we can only find it in our hearts to look beyond the pain that we have and look at other people who might be hurting around us na parang instead of magnifying our pains and hurts tas playing it over and over again, maybe we should pause and be concerned with other things/people. Our concerns are not the only concerns in this world -- we are just a “spec of dust”. We are small and just one tiny bit of the universe.

Sana hindi ako (tayo) mapagod magmahal -- not just in a romantic sense but to love anything, everything and everyone there is. Palagay ko, sa process ng pagmamahal at pagbibigay natin despite our pain and brokenness, we become who we were meant to be -- better versions of ourselves who know how to give and receive love accordingly.

Malay mo, sa bandang huli -- in God’s perfect time -- magiging kayo din pala. Yung evolved version nyong dalawa :) 

Applicable din yan sa mga promotion, increase, trabaho, or anything that can break our hearts -- let’s continue to give despite not receiving them. Pwede naman kasing “not yet” or there is something better for you.

Kakabasa ko lang sa Pinterest ng quote na parang “Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile” 😃

So teka bakit “Broken to Love You” ang title nito??? Kasi bukod sa parang title cya ng isang #JaDine movie (hahaha faney din!), palagay ko yun ang premise ng lahat ng nasusulat dito ngayon. Minsan, we are broken in this life only to become better versions of ourselves -- more loving, more giving, more caring, etc. to be able to live out our purpose 🙌🏻

Excited na akong makita how I would grow from this pain 😋
