"Remember how long you have been putting these things off, and how often you have received an opportunity from the gods and have not made use of it. By now you ought to realize what cosmos you are a part of, and what divine administrator you owe your existence to, and that an end to your time here has been marked out, and if you do not use this time for clearing the clouds from your mind, it will be gone and so will you."  - Jacob Needleman and John Piazza The Essential Marcus Aurelius from The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius translated by George Long

Drowning In A Whiskey River - Sarah Connor/Heather Gummer
A/N: Final Weekly fic prompt for @yeehawgust . Treminator but not as you'd expect. That's Terminator and @thetremorssaga .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Buck up Buttercup, it might never happen…” Heather’s voice breaks into Sarah’s thoughts even as she slides another glass of whiskey across the bar in Burt’s bunker. He’d hate knowing that Sarah was unable to share what she was thinking but Heather gets it, too well to ever tell Burt. “You okay?” “Will be.” Sarah swallows back the whiskey quick as breathing and Heather nods, moving around the bar to lead Sarah away and towards a bunkroom, settling her and tucking her under the sheet easily, her touch soft on Sarah’s bare shoulder. “Sleep it off Sarah, you’ll be alright, we’ve got you now, you and John…” “What if…” “Blanco’d eat the bastards.” Heather’s quick answer brings a wet laugh and Sarah sighs. “Thanks Heather…” A whiskey river has run down her throat and numbed the pain enough to rest, for now it’s enough.

Song Review: Willie Nelson - “Whiskey River” (“Colbert”)
The studio audience rose and chanted, Willie!, Willie!
And for good reason. For the folks who gathered to witness a taping of “the Late Show with Stephen Colbert” were treated to a rambunctious rafting trip down Willie Nelson’s “Whiskey River” - a powerful version that defied Nelson’s 90 years as he fanned Trigger’s strings and was in full command of his band.
So when Nelson played behind and sung raspily ahead of the beat, it seemed clear this was just a continuation of his normal course of business as opposed to a sign of aging.
The performance marked Nelson’s second consecutive appearance on Colbert’s show. Read Sound Bites’ review of “I Never Cared for You” here.
Grade card: Willie Nelson - “Whiskey River” (“Colbert”) - B+

Well, pardners, we’re heading into the final weekly prompt of Yeehawgust: Whiskey River. Today’s daily prompt is not a coincidence either, because when the whiskey is flowing like that, you’re bound to get in A Whole Heap of Trouble.

More JJBA HCs from my AU:
Sorbet & Gelato
Gelato is basically REALLY into westerns. Like, a lot - he taught himself how to speak like a cowboy because he got really into Spaghetti Westerns and American westerns when he was young. He likes to pretend he and Sorbet are like a Bonnie & Clyde type deal.
Gelato's stand is Whiskey River - it's useful as a form of interrogation and assassination when paired with Sorbet's Badfinger.
Whiskey River's ability is to convert perspiration into an alcohol that absorbs into the body. Basically, if you're locked into a humid chamber or sweating a lot from battle - you're gonna end up getting intoxicated. This was partially inspired by Harvest injecting Okuyasu and Josuke with spirits in DiU.
Sorbet's Badfinger manifests as a ghoulish third arm that attaches to a victim and lures them towards deaths that end up looking like a suicide. Have a gun on you? It'll try to yoink that. Near a busy street? It'll try to drag you into traffic.
When Badfinger is paired with Whiskey River, it often makes an assassination target appear to have gotten drunk and taken their own life, meaning it's rather subtle form of taking out a target. (Looking at you, Formaggio, putting shrunken cars into people's fucking drinks...)
Plus, Whiskey River can be used to interrogate a target for information before their demise - Sorbet likes to try and get cash out of people before they die.
As for Sorbet's personality - he's pretty greedy (as is hinted at in canon) but is otherwise a pretty straight-cut guy. He claims to "put up with" Gelato's western obsession, but he does love it in secret.
As for how they act with their team, well, they kind of act a bit narcissistic in terms of thinking that they're better than the rest of them, but all in all are both in Passione's business for the money. When the cash stops flowing - well, we saw what happened there.
Their loyalties lie to whoever's gonna make them rich, not necessarily solely to Risotto or Passione as a whole. But, they still do hold some level of respect for their team members who show cunning and skill.

Maxfield Parrish - Hot Springs: Yavapai Co. Arizona (1902) :: [Guillaume Gris]

"Whatever your eye falls on - for it will fall on what you love - will lead you to the questions of your life, the questions that are incumbent upon you to answer, because that is how the mind works in concert with the eye. The things of this world draw us where we need to go."

Song Review: Ray Wylie Hubbard - “Whiskey River” (Live, May 1, 2022)
Ray Wylie Hubbard’s in-concert cover of “Whiskey River” is just perfect.
Set to a bluesy swagger with country-and-western undertones - dig the pedal steel - the track finds the gravelly Hubbard backed by a chorus of female backgrounds. And the track flows flawlessly.
It comes from the forthcoming One Night in Texas: The Next Waltz’s Tribute to the Red Headed Stranger, due April 28. The album contains the titular May 1, 2022, show that featured Nathaniel Rateliff, Margo Price, Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen and Sheryl Crow among others.
If the other guests are even remotely as successful as Hubbard, this thing is going to smoke.
Grade card: Ray Wylie Hubbard - “Whiskey River” (Live - 5/1/22) - A+
