Mdzs Fandom: JC suffered so much, he lost his entire family and sister and even his clan, surely his taking out his anger and resentment at others is totally misunderstood and reasonable, I relate to him so much 🥹

WN (who lost not only his sister and entire family and clan but also his literal life, and was held captive and experimented on for thirteen years as a trophy, watches his relatives die a second time, is treated with prejudice and disdain and fear by most of the cultivation world, yet despite all this still manages to retain a bone-deep kindness and humility, as well as a sense of righteousness as fierce as himself): Am I a joke to you?

This is what I meant when I said characters who are constantly declaring what they went through are put up on a pedestal for their non existent resilience. It's so easy to forget that other characters went through much of the same pain and handled their circumstances better, like WN who went through literal hell himself, because he barely mentions and even downplays his suffering.

I'm going to come out and say that the more I re-read MDZS the more I actually HATE WWX.

I know he's a protag so everything is supposed to be about "poor me I've done nothing wrong" but I can't stand those types of people. He would be a person where if he existed in real life I would not be able to be around him.

I've actually become more of a Jiang Cheng apologist (actually, no, because that implies that he's ever done anything wrong).

I read through all the main points and here are a few things that piss me off. Please add on if I missed something:

WWX is obviously favored by JFM and if JC brings up this concern, all WWX says is: "no he doesn't lol you're so silly I'm not his son" TBH WWX wasn't his child but JFM had a son and it wasn't JC

Golden Core transfer. Need I say less (and fuck you Wen Ning for saying JC didn't deserve the core and the power he had wasnt actually his. He cultivated it for YEARS to get it to where it is today. It is NOT WWXs core anymore. Fuck all yall)

WWX defecting from YMJ and going with the Wens when JC had NOTHING. No sect, no support, no family. He's a new sect leader and has no resources or money to do anything or go against anyone. And thanks WWX for defending the people that, you know, massacred his family but whatever. (I understand they were innocent but still, I can tell it would really hurt JC)

Along with the defecting, WWX and LWJ broke into Lotus Pier and BOWED TO MADAM YU AND JFM WITHOUT JCs APPROVAL. DISRESPECTFUL AS HELL I KNOW WHY JC WAS PISSED. WWX had NO RIGHT to be there after everything he had done.

WWX tells JC to leave everything in the past. As usual, he is running away and not accepting any consequences for the many, many, things he's done wrong. If I were JC, I would permanently ban him from Lotus Pier and kill on sight because if he wants to leave things in the past, then that includes WWX.

Lastly, WWX never once defends JC. Whether it be against LWJ, Wen Ning, or other people that say terrible shit to him because they're being petty. Not once does he come to his defense.

To end my rant, WWX is actually a very terrible person (and so is Lan Wangji. Fight me) with no sense and I finally realized it after re reading the book multiple times. Come at me if you want but this is my honest opinion and I get why JC is such an ass because BITCH ME TOO GET OUT OF MY HOUSE.

Hopefully I have some support here but I also know I'm going to get some hate.

When I read a canon-divergent fic where Wei Wuxian doesn’t die at the burial mounds I can’t help but think about how Wen Ning is just sitting there in the Jin dungeons. Like wangxian will be making out/talking about their feelings or whatever but Wen Ning is just sitting there, alone. Wen Ning hadn't thought much about what being undead took away from him. He was grateful that he was still, technically, alive, conscious, that he had been around for far longer than anybody had expected, himself included. That he got the chance to share the culture and the memories of his family with Sizhui, that he could travel around and see the world, help people and try to find purpose.

When he died, in that terrible working camp, his biggest regret had been not having experienced more of life. Now, he could do virtually anything he wanted, go wherever he would like.

That day, his travels had led him to the ruins of the training grounds near what used to be Qishan. The place had overgrown with vegetation, swallowed up by nature and its many critters, no signs of the familiar practice stations or equipment Wen Ning used to know.

There was silence, few birds singing their thrill from high up the tall, unkempt trees, where Wen Ning knew used to be noise, laughter, occasionally shouting. Nothing at all was left except for a few archery targets covered in moss and ivy leaves.

Wen Ning felt an inexplicable sort of nostalgia at that sight, remembering how much he used to enjoy archery. If he had been braver, perhaps he would have made a name for himself as an archer. Or maybe he would have been able to defend his family himself and Wei Wuxian wouldn't have had to sacrifice so much for them.

As a fierce corpse, he lacked the fine motor skills, the smooth mobility and elegance to try archery anymore. He had tutored the Lan juniors on it a few times, and had tried it himself when they had to leave to return to class. But he had failed so miserably that it had been both funny and gut-wrenching - to realize the one thing he had been good at, his greatest achievement, was now impossible for him to pursue ever again.

Wei Wuxian had cut the chains that used to bind him. Wen Ning hadn't really minded them much, and they had been quite useful as weapons. That got him wondering whether he could find a way to somehow hone his use of chains into a skill the way he had done with archery.

It had been his father that taught him how to shoot arrows, but there was nobody to teach him how to wield chains.

He would just have to teach himself.

And so, the old training grounds of Qishan received their first student in decades.

Even the birds sang louder now.

Okay I’ve finally watched both spin off movies for the Untamed and I love how hard they go “outside of the gay clown circus, people are experiencing real horrors every day”

Like, especially The Living Dead just really digs into how terrifying it is to be just a regular civilian. And I just adore how much more the movie lingers on how challenging this whole situation is and how the obviously higher budget allows them to depict cultivation
