i dont think there is a word yet that can describe how absolutely vile israel is. they killed thirsty children by targeting a water tank.

how inhumane do you have to be to support this, to fund this, to excuse this, to ignore this and pretend as if it isn’t going on?

feeling the need to post again about this. i'm standing with every single person who is protesting for palestine right now. especially all the people at these universities setting up encampments and having guns and police brigades pointed towards them. these are PEACEFUL protests and should not be threatened with tear gas, force, or even snipers pointed at them. palestine needs our voices more than ever. we're nearing 50K marytered palestinians when there shouldn't have even been 1.
if you personally cannot protest in public for whatever reason it may be, at least voice your support for protesters who are and also voice your support for palestinians. they need your voice. their voices are getting silences constantly online whether through suppression or the IOF marytering them along with everyone else.
i stand with every palestinian in the world. i stand with every protester in the world speaking for palestinians.
FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, PALESTINE WILL BE FREE!!!!!

It's not that you claim others want to hang out with him, it's that you say that he struggles to connect with people after the loss of his core and what he went through in the Burial Mounds, when the text shows us that people don't want to be around him in the first place. He has no problems developing connections with people, it's just that he does intentionally distance himself cause he doesn't want others to find out about his golden core, because obviously he cannot reveal that he is vulnerable in such a way.
Also I re-read your post and you are wrong about some things. WWX is a confident and self assured person who does not tie his self worth to his golden core (that's Jiang Cheng), so the loss of it does not make him feel like he doesn't belong with the living (where did you get that idea? I'm genuinely curious), nor does he feel like he bears responsibility for the destruction of his clan (again where in the text does it state that he thinks that?). He does not act like someone who has lost all reason to live, as you seem to imply. He is resilient to a fault, do you think someone like him who survived through the indescribable horrors of the Burial Mounds would so easily give up on life?
Him hanging out with ghost girls because others don't want to hang out with him, is because, as someone else said, he is empathetic and kind, and there is nothing wrong with hanging with ghosts! He treats them with respect like they deserve, not because he thinks they are nefarious creatures like himself or something ridiculous like that.
There is tragedy to be found in how he isolates himself, yes, but it's because he's forced to by his circumstances, not because he wants to.
post-war Wei Wuxian choosing to hang out with reanimated corpses because he no longer feels like he belongs with the living, because he bears the responsibility for the destruction of his clan, because he has given up his golden core, because he has survived unknown horrors through unknown means, because the only thing that kept him going was revenge and now that that’s done, why is he even here? the only people he occasionally chooses to interact with are his siblings and Lan Wangji and only because they allow him a glimpse of how things used to be, of who he used to be, before the trauma of his self sacrifice, before the horrors of the Burial Mounds, before the depravity of his own acts of revenge, for which he is both lauded and hated in equal measure, but which have cemented the death of who he was just a few short months ago. but both LWJ and JC keep asking him to go back to being the person he can no longer be, and it’s not like he can talk to anyone about what he’s going through, so it’s better to be alone with nefarious creatures who are as damaged as him.

Since OP seems so insistent on seeing evidence from the novel...here it is stated in the Phoenix Mountain hunt chapter:
"There was still no response, but the person walked a few steps closer.
Now that piqued Wei Wuxian’s interest. Ordinary cultivators grew wary at the sight of him. They didn’t dare approach even when there were other people around, never mind interacting with him alone, up close and personal. If it wasn’t for the fact that he sensed no killing intent from the newcomer, Wei Wuxian might’ve assumed they came bearing ill intentions."
Stated very clearly that ever since he came back from the Burial Mounds, people avoided him, not the other way around. He wouldn't be alone if he could help it, and his hanging out with ghost girls isn't as sad or depressing as you make it seem.
Also most of his previous friends (people, especially disciples he knew from the Jiang sect) are dead, so.
post-war Wei Wuxian choosing to hang out with reanimated corpses because he no longer feels like he belongs with the living, because he bears the responsibility for the destruction of his clan, because he has given up his golden core, because he has survived unknown horrors through unknown means, because the only thing that kept him going was revenge and now that that’s done, why is he even here? the only people he occasionally chooses to interact with are his siblings and Lan Wangji and only because they allow him a glimpse of how things used to be, of who he used to be, before the trauma of his self sacrifice, before the horrors of the Burial Mounds, before the depravity of his own acts of revenge, for which he is both lauded and hated in equal measure, but which have cemented the death of who he was just a few short months ago. but both LWJ and JC keep asking him to go back to being the person he can no longer be, and it’s not like he can talk to anyone about what he’s going through, so it’s better to be alone with nefarious creatures who are as damaged as him.

*grabs both your hands in gesture of sincerity*
Don't let this die. Taylor Swift is the Pollution Queen now. We need meme edits with her photoshopped onto backgrounds of wildfire-ravaged landscapes and oil refineries chugging out black smoke.
Photo of smudgy black eye shadow? That's THE Taylor Swift-inspired look now, it represents fossil fuels.
We need parodies of Taylor Swift songs about pollution and killing polar bears.
Give her representatives a full-time job for the rest of their lives defending her from the phrase "Pollution Queen." Make this meme a the figurehead of an entire fleet of other celebrity-terrorizing memes.
"But this doesn't dismantle the system that—" Shut. Don't care. Isn't it great that such a huge portion of environmental damage is being done by human individuals with egos, whose feelings can be hurt when people are mean?
Money can save you from physical harm, but can it save you from looking ridiculous?

Hey!!
I recently saw someone claim that Wei Wuxian was starved of conversation on his journey to Yiling with Lan Wangji and Wen Ning and so board he needed to chat to people before they ascend the mountain. I hadn't really noticed this until it was mentioned. What do you think of that scene?
I love your meta and fics btw. You use your understanding of the novel in your writing and it's just *chef's kiss*
Hi anon 👋🏻
Personally, I've not seen any comments regarding the above - but we can certainly look at the text in question 😊
Let's take a look at the scene in question:
Several days later, they arrived in Yiling.
The Burial Mounds were less than five kilometers ahead of this small town. Although they didn’t know exactly what awaited them there, Wei Wuxian had a feeling it wasn’t anything good. But Lan Wangji was right by his side, his gait steady, his gaze cool. Wei Wuxian had never been one with any sense of crisis to begin with, and with the way Lan Wangji looked, he was even less likely to get nervous at all.
Passing through the small town of Yiling, he was awash in the sounds of the local accent. It was invigorating and incomparably endearing. While he wasn’t planning on buying anything, he couldn’t help but strike up conversations in the local dialect with the street vendors. Only after he’d had his fill of socializing did he get down to business.
“Hanguang-jun, you remember this town, right?”
7S translation
So the scene opens with WWX gushing over how safe and happy he feels around LWJ. He's just so thankful to have someone by his side, someone he can fully depend on and is there for him, should he need it. This very much echoes his thoughts from when they began their descent from the Cloud Recesses, at the start of their journey here. For someone nearing the place he met such a gruesome end at previously, he seems incredibly content and calm - all thanks to LWJ. So straight away, we are reminded of how WWX feels around the other man. It's there for a reason, to set the scene. WWX is relaxed and enjoying himself because he's with LWJ.
They have just arrived in a city he is very familiar with. It's the place he both lived as an orphan and frequented as a man while residing at the burial mounds. He is surrounded by the accent of his "home" for the first time in over 13 years and it's making him feel sentimental. I also think it's a great parallel between when WWX finally visits Lotus Pier in the coming chapters and how desolate and subdued the place has become since JC became sect leader.
I think the above reaction is very normal considering the emotional impact it obviously had on him. WWX has already stated on numerous occasions that LWJ makes him happy and he enjoys his company, but he's also very sociable and likes to look around markets and chat with vendors - there's even a scene in the novel which states as such and many other examples. Although WWX is running around chatting and exploring the stalls, LWJ is still by his side. Doing so does not subtract from his obvious enjoyment of having LWJ's unwavering presence.
We see more than enough evidence that WWX happily chats to LWJ and that he, in turn, even responds and asks questions also. There seems to be this mind-boggling misconception that LWJ literally doesn't speak, and if he does he's like some caveman that can't communicate effectively, when it's the exact opposite. LWJ talks when necessary and is very succinct with his words - he's a true gentleman of their time. Of course, in comparison to WWX, he's much less chatty - but when he does talk it's sincere and relevant. WWX loves this about him! He's also an incredible listener and doesn't miss a single thing WWX says, which WWX also appreciates! Hardly anyone listens to all his ramblings and holds them all so dearly!
It's funny, because although WWX chats to anyone and everyone, it's obvious he enjoys conversing with LWJ the most. He treasures the fact they are on the same wavelength and understand each other implicitly 🥰
Aww! Thank you so much anon! I'm glad you are enjoying my meta and fics ❤️
I hope I managed to answer your question! Have a lovely day 😘

they said it so well
In hindsight the popularity of using “demonic cultivation” for what Wei Wuxian uses is running counter to what is actually in MDZS being used. It is resulting in a lot of fandom confusion, particularly since demonic cultivation is a xianxia genre standard. But that’s not what is going on in MDZS. The genre standard demonic cultivation revolves around stealing qi, absorbing life energy from others, possessing others to get access to their greater cultivation abilities, and in general much more assholery than what Wei Wuxian does. The actual term used by Wei Wuxian and most of the narration in the novel is Guǐdào; aka Ghost Cultivation. It revolves around manipulating the dead, using resentful energy as a power source, and to be absolutely blunt it is a form of necromancy. It is the “redirection” option in dealing with the dead; drain away resentful energy so that you can convince the dead to finally let go and be liberated. Either by getting the justice they were denied in life or having lifted the worst of their anger and attachment so they can think clearer. Not demonic cultivation. The very title “Mo Dao Zu Shi” is part of the subversion element and part of setting in motion assumptions about the story for the original Chinese readers who know the genre and what the usual tropes are. Because calling it “Gui Dao Zu Shi” would give away too much from the start of what is actually going on. Also per MXTX, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are “morally perfect” and as that is the intention given by the author herself, that means nothing Wei Wuxian does with ghost cultivation has to actually harm the ghosts in a way that would be morally wrong. Like destroying them, preventing them from reincarnating, that kind of thing. He does not hurt the dead. He’s honestly shown to be more friendly with the undead; he is endlessly kind to them in fact and even gentle. Polite too and that deserves marking because Wei Wuxian ignores most manners because he generally doesn’t care. But he puts that care into how he treats the gui (undead) he commands and works with. He gives them rewards for a job well done as shown in the Yi City arc! The one who does use ghost cultivation to hurt both the living and dead is Xue Yang who is repudiated by Wei Wuxian; “Xue Yang has to die” is what he says and that is what he helps Lan Wangji do. But the actual founder? The guy who made it and is the absolute master of it? Rejects that kind of thinking all the way through the story, even at his lowest.

the tag on ao3 is Demonic Cultivation (Modao Zushi) when it should really be Ghost Cultivation | Guidao (Modao Zushi) or something similar, and there should also be specification on which canon is being used, bc in CQL, the manhua, and the donghua, Guidao has adverse affects when in the novel it doesn't do shit to the practitioner.

‼️‼️
If you're having trouble keeping up with what's going on in Palestine because of US news coverage of university protests, here are some articles you can read and a video you can watch:
youtube
While CNN & all the other mainstream media try to paint the university protests as "pro terrorism" (which they're not, they're literally anti-war protests.) Palestinians are being slaughtered by the minute.
Please don't stop speaking about Palestine.

The Shade of Old Trees by Kryal
Action/Adventure Alternate … just Lots of Alternate, with a Modern Setting 9 of 25 chapters WIP 128k words
In his defense, Wen Yuan hadn’t planned to jump in front of a bunch of twitchy guys holding guns.
Except that his head had been full of a horrible jumble of he’s alive, he’s alive, he’s alive and they’re going to kill him…!, and the security guys had left the door open, and he hadn’t known what he was going to do beyond something but he had to do it!
“Don’t get in the way, kid!” the guy in front snapped, and oh great, Wen Yuan actually recognized him, this was the same guard who always kept trying to kick him out because high school students didn’t belong running around the university, even though no one else cared and he even had official permission to come. “He’s dangerous, he attacked Doctor Lan, move!”
“Of course he did!” Wen Yuan snapped back impatiently, not budging. “What would you do if you suddenly woke up and you’d been kidnapped by aliens?! That’s got to be how he feels right now!”
One of the other guards made a strangled noise, and the third’s lips twitched slightly. The guy in the front just spluttered – and spluttering was fine, it was even good, Wen Yuan would take it, especially when spluttering meant the guy had lowered his gun a little bit…
“…pfft…”
He blinked and looked over his shoulder. Because Yiling Laozu had just laughed. Okay, not laugh-laughing, but he knew a snicker when he heard one, and the man’s silvery-grey eyes were… he’d always thought the expression about eyes dancing was a bit of poetic license, but this time Wen Yuan was pretty sure that no other phrase would fit.
Blinking again, Wen Yuan smiled tentatively, and felt his heart squeeze a little when he got an amused grin in return. Because that wasn’t I’m in over my head and don’t know what to do, Wen Yuan knew what that looked like from Mo Xuanyu. That was this whole situation is unexpectedly hilarious.
Sputtering became a snarl. “You think this is funny, huh?!”
The next second got… confusing.
There was a pow sort of noise. Suddenly Wen Yuan wasn’t standing where he’d been, because he’d been pushed off to the side and Yiling Laozu was there instead, eyes narrowed and face hard, one arm raised with a closed fist in front of him, watching the security guard like he was one second from taking the man down hard, and Wen Yuan had a feeling he could do it…
“Su Minshan, what the hell are you doing?!”
The prologue of The Shade of Old Trees begins with the discovery of a body trapped in ice on a mountainous glacier near Yiling. Nicknamed Yiling Laozu, it soon became apparent that the body could not stay where it was. There were too many people coming to look, a whole lot more after someone released a photo. Eventually, the body is cut away from the glacier and sent to Cloud Recesses University as part of a multi-disciplinary study. The Yiling Laozu was, after all, dressed in the manner of someone from fifth or sixth century China.
As part of the team, Lan Wangji didn't expect there'd be much to do, being the "Historical Culture and Language Expert". The dead do not speak. His secondary degree in folklore … well, the Yiling Laozu did have a sword.
The Shade of Old Trees has a lot going for it. Literal time travel (via glacier). Historical mysteries. Academics and cultivation. And a small group of researchers attempting to acclimate the Yiling Laozu (ok, Wei Wuxian) to the 21st century.
Mysteries abound. Where was Wei Wuxian in historical context? Why is there no mention of the Sunshot war? Who attempted to steal the body from the lab after Wei Wuxian was secretly moved? When did cultivators go away?
This makes for both a great read and a fresh approach to the life and times of Wei Wuxian as we see him reminisce about his own past.
Names will be familiar. Wen Yuan, teenager, is on the project as Lan Wangji's assistant. Wen Qing is the medical lead. Nie Mingjue is head of security. There are other Lans involved, several Jin and at least one Yao on the project.
Wen Yuan is still in high school, and has a number of friends his age who are disappointed that his summer is going to be taken up working with a 1500-year-old body. Just wait until he finally gets to tell them about "What I did this summer".
The story is currently ongoing and started releasing chapters in December of 2023. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to reading them as they come out.
