For anyone who despises WebP files as much as I do, I found A site that can convert WebP gifs back into actual gif files. Also, if you use the free art program “Gimp”, it can convert WebP Files for you,too. Update: Site only allows 10 conversions per day. I just tried out fixing a WebP animated gif with gimp, and it is doable! Just export the file as a gif and make sure to tell Gimp to export it as an animation.

Sure!! Getting sprites from Ren'Py games is so much easier!!

Download RPA Extract by iwanPlays from Itch.io (it might flag it as a trojan because it's a .exe, it's not it's completely safe)

Make a separate folder called Sprites or whatever you'd like then copy the archive.rpa file to that folder.

Open wherever you downloaded rpaextract.exe in another window and drag the archive.rpa file onto it and it should decompile the assets!!

You can get the gui assets, CGs, BGs, and everything from it, it's great! And it works for most? all? Ren'Py games! So if there are any others you want you should be able to do it

Sprites are also up on the spriters resource! I was gonna use their rips until I decided to do my own

#as an aside if you want to use OL2 sprites you're gonna need to convert them from webp format #OL1 uses png but not OL2 #I recommend pixelied for this cause you can do a batch all at once and then download them all as a zip file #makes it a lot faster #than converting one by one

Ok this post was delayed because i was sitting next to my cat because she was lonely and then i fell asleep (peaceful world) but the thing about WebP. WebP is a COMPLETELY FINE FILE FORMAT, in fact, its compression leads to much smaller file sizes than PNGs, which means that pages using WebP images load MUCH faster on bad connections than they would if they used PNG files! This is a good thing! Objective good! (they are called "Web"ps because they are for the web!)

The issue with it is that somehow their adoption is extremely lopsided, so they're EVERYWHERE online, but it's disproportionately inaccessible to create or edit one without having to go through a bunch of file converters that will probably lead to data degradation if you have to keep going through them. So the real question is "Why is almost every program apparently so opposed to adding support/export options for a now extremely widespread image format that's existed since 2010????" Like you have had time? Why does trying to open a webp on my computer open Microsoft Edge instead of the photo viewer. What excuse could there possibly be for this.

tbh the way people on this site talk about webp is so annoying like the thing is webp is a pretty good image file format its just new so not all software supports it yet (but most do btw!! most image editors have added support for it in the last few years, same with most web browsers). maybe instead of complaining that the file type itself is ruining your web experience just get an image converter add-on and wait a few years until its normalized

Hate WEBP file formats? There's an easy solution.

You just simply put .png or .jpg at the end of the file name, then click save.

I had tested this & it worked. No file format converter sites, nor image editing programs required.

I never said it was good but also its JUST ANOTHER FILE FORMAT. You don't actually give a shit about the file format. You just care how its used by the programs you want to repost your images to. Everyone who complains about webp DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT about it as a format, they just care that it isn't supported, and you all are misplacing your rage and making fools of yourself when doing so.

The fight against webp is LITERALLY a reactionary movement (as in the response, not the pseudonym for the alt right) because something new isn't 100% supported everywhere you want it simultaneously.

Is it frustrating when you download a webp to share it with someone only to find that the service you are sharing it over doesn't support webp? Yes. Absolutely. Does webp have technically problems that can make it frustrating to use for developers in some cases? Yes. Absolutely.

But when you hop on a hate bandwagon because you went "Oh yeah I have experienced a minor inconvenience from that thing, it IS bad" with no idea what the fuck you are talking about, the ONLY thing you are accomplishing is proving your own lack of critical thinking about your own actions.

google, the company responsible for webp, is now trying to inflict a new incompatible image format on the collective users of the internet. they have dropped support in chrome for the most promising new image format, a backwards-compatible updated version of jpeg, known as jpeg xl.

instead, they are trying to push their own worse format, avif, on everybody. the reason they prefer avif is because it is based on their previous video format, av1, and this would make it slightly cheaper for them to create scrolling previews on youtube videos.

if you don’t want google to make your web experience worse, again, you can comment on their decision on this chromium bug, as long as you have a google account.
