RIGHTEOUS AMONG THE NATIONS—Here is America's only soldier to ever receive Israel’s highest honor conferred on non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. On this day 77 years ago, facing the threat of immediate execution, he and his men displayed an act of courage and character that exemplifies what it means to take a stand against evil. US Army Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds, 422nd Infantry Regiment, 106th Infantry Division, the “Golden Lions”, was captured by German forces at the onset of the Battle of the Bulge. A native of Knoxville, TN, Edmonds was 25 years old. He had only been on the front line for five days when his unit was overrun.Edmonds' captors marched him east where he was transferred to Stalag IX-A, a camp for enlisted personnel just east of Bonn, Germany. As the senior noncommissioned officer at the camp, Edmonds found himself responsible for 1,275 American POWs.On January 27, 1945, the Camp Commandant ordered Edmonds to assemble all the Jewish-American soldiers so they could be separated from the other prisoners. Defiantly, Edmonds assembled all 1,275 American POWs.Furious, the German commandant walked quickly up to Edmonds, placed a pistol against Edmonds' forehead, and demanded that he identify the Jewish soldiers within the ranks.Edmonds, a keen and dedicated Baptist, responded sternly, "We are all Jews here."Edmonds then warned the commandant that if he wanted to shoot the Jews, he'd have to shoot everyone, and that if he harmed any of Edmonds' men, the commandant would be prosecuted for war crimes when Germany lost. Edmonds then recited that the Geneva Conventions required POWs to give only their name, rank, and serial number, not their religion. The commandant backed down.Edmonds' actions are credited with saving 200 Jewish-American soldiers from being murdered. He survived 100 days of captivity, and returned home after the war, but kept the event at the POW camp to himself. He never told anyone. Edmonds later served in Korea. It was only after Edmonds’ death in 1985 and the review of his diaries by his son that his story came to light. Jewish-American POWs, including Sonny Fox who after the war became an executive with NBC. He verified the story as did other POWs who were glad to share. The State of Israel declared Edmonds “Righteous Among the Nations” in 2015.Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. As we pause to remember the 6 million Jews and 11 million others murdered at the hand of their captors, we also commend all Allied Veterans who helped bring the tyranny of the Third Reich to an end. Master Sergeant Edmonds and the 1,275 American soldiers who stood defiantly with him on this day were a part of that story. We are the benefactors, and we pause to give our thanks. All The Way and more.

The Future Depends On What You Do Today.
- Mahatma Gandhi
VE Day
Franz Stigler - a German Ace Fighter Pilot, was called to an American Bomber Convoy Returning from A Mission in Bremen. Charlie Brown's B-17 ‘Ye Old Pub’, Suffered Heavy Damage & trying to Return to England. Franz Flew Alongside & was Stunned by the Enemy Planes Damage. He Knew a few Shots would bring the Aircraft down, but there was Little Glory in Shooting at Helpless Men - even though Their Bombs likely Killed His Countrymen.
It was Common for German Aircraft to Escort Captured Bombers to Germany, but Charlie was Determined to Fly back to England. Franz knew they were Dead Men unless He Helped & Flew his Messerschmidt Wing-Tip to Wing-Tip towards the Atlantic Wall. The German Spotters On The Ground Recognised One Of Their Own & both Planes Fly across the AA Guns with no Open Fire.
As They Pass Unscathed, Charlie cannot Understand or See what Stigler Has Done to Help Him until Franz Salutes & Banks Away.
Then He Understands.
Ye Old Pub makes it back to England - a Small Miracle.
But after Learning What Happened, the Commanding Officer Denied Medals For Service. The Truth Buried - The Mission Never Happened.
Franz Lands near Bremen But Can Tell No One what He’s Done as He could be Court-Martialled/Killed.
The Story Disappeared until Boeing invited Old Fighter Pilots to the 50th Anniversary of the B-17, whose First Flights were back in 1935. Franz Stigler was now Living in Vancouver, Canada. He was in Attendance as the only German Pilot & Interviewed by a local TV station to which He Told His Story.
It took until 1990 For Them to Find Each Other & Meet In Person. Their Friendship Lasted until Stigler's Death in March 2008. Brown Passed a few months later.
Even Long After The War, Franz would receive calls from Germany Telling Him He Was A Traitor, while some Canadian Neighbours Shunned Him As A Nazi.
Franz always responded:
“They Would Never Understand.”

"Primero vinieron por los socialistas, y yo no dije nada, porque yo no era socialista. Luego vinieron por los sindicalistas, y yo no dije nada, porque yo no era sindicalista. Luego vinieron por los judíos, y yo no dije nada, porque yo no era judío. »That fascism lives on, that the oft-invoked working through of the past has to this day been unsuccessful and has degenerated into its own caricature, an empty and cold forgetting, is due to the fact that the objective conditions of society that engendered fascism continue to exist. Fascism essentially cannot be derived from subjective dispositions. The economic order, and to a great extent also the economic organization modeled upon it, now as then renders the majority of people dependent upon conditions beyond their control and thus maintains them in a state of political immaturity. If they want to live, then no other avenue remains but to adapt, submit themselves to the given conditions; they must negate precisely that autonomous subjectivity to which the idea of democracy appeals; they can preserve themselves only if they renounce their self. To see through the nexus of deception, they would need to make precisely that painful intellectual effort that the organization of everyday life, and not least of all a culture industry inflated to the point of totality, prevents. The necessity of such adaptation, of identification with the given, the status quo, with power as such, creates the potential for totalitarianism.« (Theodor W. Adorno, The Meaning of Working Through the Past, 1959)

Trafficked to over 40 countries and forced into providing sexual services at the age of 11, Christina Babin's childhood in the Children of God sex cult was spent being groomed for a life of prostitution in the name of religion. She tells her story of resisting abuse, being punished, and ultimately finding her freedom in this episode of Megan Kelly Today: https://youtu.be/AiJGNN0rQOQ.
Christina Babin says that since leaving COG-TFI, she has been "living in the now, embracing freedom, and embracing happiness, becoming the opposite of what they are and what they were". Regaining a sense of self detached from the identity that one's abusers have crafted is one of the joys of freedom from cult abuse.
