Once we hit age 30, many of our hormones begin to decline. Our organs’ lean body mass (LBM) decreases, whereas the adipose (or fat) mass decreases. Between the ages of 30 and 75, the liver, kidneys, brain, and pancreas atrophy by an average of 30%. The LBM declines by ~5% in men and 2.5% in women per decade. Meanwhile, the percent body fat increases in both sexes during the same period. Although many people consider these changes as simply part of aging, they threaten health and longevity. For example, the amount of aerobic power is directly linked to the amount of LBM. In addition, the shrinkage of the vital organs means they cannot do their jobs as efficiently as they once could, whether it is the heart pumping, muscles lifting, or kidneys clearing metabolic waste from the blood. Finally, as the amount of abdominal fat rises, the risk of heart attack, hypertension, and diabetes increases.

⁣Is waist circumference significant for diagnosing obesity?⠀ ⠀ Yes ⠀ Waist Circumference is a constant measure of abdominal obesity.⠀ ⠀ Although overall obesity confers a significant threat to the health of individuals, the distribution of body fat is also of great importance in determining this threat ⠀ ⠀ The circumference of your waist is important because it's a good indicator of how much abdominal, or visceral, fat you have — the fat you carry around your middle, including your belly.⠀ ⠀ Waist circumference is typically at the natural waist, just above hipbones. ⠀ ⠀ One of the first signals that the body has started storing excess fat is the Bulging waist line .⠀ ⠀ if your waist circumference is going up, you're putting on fat, and you're putting on the worst type of fat."⠀ ⠀ A little bit of that sort of fat is useful because it protects your vital organs.⠀ ⠀ Central obesity has been recognised as an independent risk factor for cardio-metabolic diseases and a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than overall obesity⠀ ⠀ Central obesity is a component of metabolic syndrome and plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and certain cancers by stimulating mediating factors such as insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia and systematic inflammation, even among individuals with normal weight ⠀ ⠀ This risk increases with an increase in abdominal fat⠀ ⠀ Although BMI is the most common measure of overall obesity it would be misleading to use it as a health risk indicator alone, because BMI alone results in misclassification and underestimation of the at-risk population, individuals with a normal weight are sometimes centrally obese ⠀ ⠀ The maximum waist circumference considered normal is not more than 36 cm in men and 34 cm in women for Asian population ⠀ ⠀ #weightloss #inchloss #fatloss #healthylifestyle #healthyliving #bmi #waist #waistcircumference #abdominal #abdominalfat #visceralfat #obesity #morbidlyobese #eatright #eatrightnotless #diet #nutrition #dietician #nutritionist #wellness #online #onlinecounseling #wellnesscoach #eatryt #actryt #feelryt #vaishali
