they could’ve done something interesting with cas often framing his praise of jack as “you’re so helpful/I know you’ll do great things/etc” because what cas is doing is projecting the metric by which he measures his own self worth onto his son. and like he could watch in real time how damaging that is to say to someone, especially your own child, even when you have good intentions. and you could build that up into a major part of the divorce arc in s15, where cas finally realises he is more than his usefulness to the winchesters through the realisation that he’s actively harming his son in the same way
