Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII and Superman from DC Comics have multiple instances of a shared English VA.
George Newbern voices Sephiroth in Advent Children and Crisis Core and Superman in Justice League (2001), while Tyler Hoechlin voices Sephiroth in the Remake trilogy and plays Superman in Supergirl and Superman & Lois.
...but that’s not a bad thing. Not necessarily. I am concerned that they didn’t air on Cartoon Network’s children networking where, you know, they’d be TV-PG at the very most.
I mean, with My Adventures with Superman, you have laser guns instead of bullet guns, quirky humor even amongst more serious scenes, no swearing whatsoever, no blood or anything above a solid TV-Y7 rating. Yet it’s on Adult Swim.
This isn’t to imply that the opposite is bad. I mean, I friggin’ looooooooved Primal, blood, guts and all. But I feel like if Adult Swim was the target network, there would’ve been more of that in Unicorn and Superman.
There’s a sort of... obligation for adult media to be cynical or deal with heavy topics either in a meaningful way or a tasteless “The world’s a bitch and so am I” depiction. Yet this is a fun superhero cartoon and fantasy show that seems to strike a balance to qualify for Adult Swim.
I've begun watching #myadventureswithsuperman and I do like the show, I find that the pacing is too rushed and that the character designs often look too way generic for my personal tastes, especially when they're based on iconic #dccomics characters.
This is NOT meant to shame the production staff who work on the show, this is much more of a fun little artistic exercise. With that said, here are the ways I tweaked the design;
*I kept the general shape of the gauntlets she wore in the two-parter series beginning and also kept the hair colour, skin tone and eye colour out of respect.
* Her top is based on the Livewire of the original DC Animated universe, with the lightning bolt acting as a reference to the original's leotard and it's incredibly deep neckline.
* The lightning bolt emblem is a reference to the Zero-Hour Reboot Legion of Superheroes where Lightning Lad, going by the codename of Livewire, sported a similar design for the lightning bolts on his costume.
* The wires around the gauntlets are meant to invoke the wires used in cranial electrostimulation, or CES, to treat cases of depression, anxiety and or insomnia. I wanted to suggest that she could have a sympathetic backstory or that her equipment radically alters her personality and she's become addicted to its power.
Today's new episode of Teen Titans GO!, which took 3 weeks to actually air (finally), means a LOT to me, but Cartoon Network characters being part of the TTG WB 100th Anniversary Special made this special all the more...
A worthy successor to the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode "Crossover Nexus" in terms of @cartoonnetwork lore.
Oh, and as if Tom and Jerry and the work of Genndy Tartakovsky showing up wasn't already special enough; that and the work of @maxwellatoms showing up is to die for!
Say @chrisbattleart ; aren't you a bit jealous of not getting to work on the later TTG episodes?
I consider this part of Cartoon Network's 30th Birthday year since it was supposed to air in September 2023, but apparently some slight revisions had to be made (assuming that it isn't Warner Bros. Discovery's fault or David Zaslav's fault).
Ok so. The Batman Beyond animated movie + concept art announcement feels to me at least like a last ditch marketing attempt a la "all or nothing". So. While I'm glad there's hype. I am not holding my breath here.
WB has already deleted Batwoman, a Scooby Doo and Krypto crossover, and is just about to decide what to do with Coyote VS Acme. I do not have faith that Terry gets another movie and it survives the tax axe for legal release. I just don't have hope.
(Tho it would be extremely cyberpunk for it to be made, canned for tax money, then someone hacks in and distributes it for free. Like the krypto crossover. Terry would absolutely approve.)
So, I adore the movie "Cats Don't Dance" to no end, it is genuinely one of my all time favorite animated movies. And, one of the things I wanted to do to test my skills of drawing the characters was to do this lineup of Sawyers many looks throughout the film.
This isn't technically all of them, but it was surprisingly hard to find good references. And the purple one technically doesn't exist, as it only appears on the poster, and is otherwise a purple version of the brown/gold suit she wears. So to compromise I had it look similar to that one, but added it's own unique look, as I think she looks good in any color :)
