Welcome to the ENGin Program!
Tumblr media
What is the ENGin Program?
The ENGin Program is a non-profit organization geared towards helping young Ukrainians gain English skills. The organization also aims to establish cross-cultural connections between Ukrainians and people in other countries across the globe. Through English fluency and culture literacy, ENGin wants to connect Ukraine to the world.
How does the program work?
ENGin pairs young Ukrainians with English-speaking volunteers. In weekly virtual sessions, these Ukrainians practice their English and share and learn from different cultures. These sessions are free of charge and available to Ukrainians age 9-35.
How does ENGin support Ukraine during the war?
When the war is over, Ukraine will need to rebuild itself from the ground up. This rebuilding can only happen through investment from foreign companies and international organizations. But for this to be possible, more Ukrainians need to learn to communicate confidently in English. And, in a time when Russia is trying to isolate Ukraine from the rest of the world, it's more important than ever for Ukrainians to connect with people worldwide.
By giving free English lessons through people of countless different backgrounds, ENGin hopes to create a generation of English-fluent, culturally competent young Ukrainians to rebuild their homeland.
Does the ENGin Program work?
The numbers speak for themselves!
As of 2022, ENGin has served 16,350 Ukrainians. In the next five years, the program hopes to reach its goal of 100,000 students.
93% of ENGin students see significant progress within three months of enrollment. As for the volunteers, 95% of them are happy with their student match!
How do I get involved with ENGin?
It's easy! Just go to the volunteer tab on our home page. Becoming a volunteer is an incredibly easy process. ENGin only has three requirements for applicants:
Must be fluent in English.
Must be 13 or older.
Must be able to commit to at least one hour of sessions per week. If you want to volunteer more hours, we can accommodate that!
Volunteer today and make a difference in a young Ukrainian's life!

PEACEFULLIFESTYLES P.C.S.
Peaceful Lifestyles, the Best Way to Live!
Peace Brigades International: Provides protective accompaniment to human rights defenders.
I have always been fascinated with their work: concern with human rights violations in the context of the war in Ukraine and the escalation of the conflict everywhere. This program is incredibly amazing and inspirational. It makes you feel that you could volunteer if you were young again. Natanael

Alley Cat Allies is in Puerto Rico to Protect Cats
Tumblr media
Alley Cat Allies is on the ground in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, as we work to keep the community cats living along the famous Paseo Del Morro trail in their outdoor homes. Weeks ago, the U.S. National Park Service announced a plan to remove the cats within a period of 6 months—a cruel and pointless scheme we will do everything in our power to halt.
Right now, we are reaching out to the government of Puerto Rico and working with local advocates as part of our ongoing efforts to stop the removal.
Tumblr media
These cats have been peacefully at home around the Castillo de San Felipe del Morro for a very long time. They are cared for by dedicated caregivers and are spayed or neutered through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Their eartips are proof! They are loved in the community and by the millions of people who visit their home each year.
Meeting some of those cats this week has been a privilege, and we are more determined than ever to protect them. We’re also planning to help more cats across Old San Juan! We’ll keep you updated on what we are doing and what YOU can do.
A Granite Shoals, Texas, Committee Suggested Shooting and Poisoning Cats
Alley Cat Allies condemns the horrific discussion between the Granite Shoals City Manager and Wildlife Advisory Committee about a plan to mass kill community cats. We call for a strong, city-supported TNR program and would pledge our own support for that program.
Audio from the Wildlife Advisory Committee meeting included these disturbing quotes: “Poison food, could you somehow round them up in a mass cage or something,” “I would be in favor of euthanizing and euthanizing as many as quickly as possible,” “The only authorized legal process for euthanizing is a 22 round in the back of the head. We have a location on this property that’s called Deer Heaven that I’m sure could be kitty cat Heaven, too…”
We stand with the Granite Shoals Police Department, the Hill Country Humane Society, and the people of Granite Shoals against cruel, lethal policies. The next city council meeting about Granite Shoals’ cats is January 9, and Alley Cat Allies will be there.
‘Tis the Season to Save Cats’ Lives with a Gift from our Holiday Cat-A-Log
Soufflé certainly has the eye of the tiger! When he and his siblings were rescued from a Maryland shelter with various health issues, they needed that courage to heal and thrive. Of course, veterinary care covered by Alley Cat Allies—thanks to our supporters like you—gave them the boost they needed!
And, every day, Alley Cat Allies helps grow local movements to provide no-cost veterinary care, food, and other critical services for indoor and community cats, like this handsome kitten.
Tumblr media
Communitywide support and sustainable resources are the keys to a world where all cats are valued and protected. YOU help make it all possible.
You can help us provide lifesaving care to even more cats and kittens with a gift from our 2023 Holiday Cat-A-Log.
Happy Holidays from the Boardwalk Cats
Tumblr media
Star and Mikey live every day on the beachfront home they love. But decades ago, community cats like them on the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk were nearly rounded up and killed simply for existing outdoors.
Alley Cat Allies rallied the community to stop it, and our Boardwalk Cats Project® was born. This city-supported #TNR program is a blueprint for all communities: The cats live well into their teens, the population has naturally declined from several hundred to just around two dozen cats, and no new kittens have been born on the Boardwalk in years!
Tumblr media
It goes to show: TNR works! Learn more at alleycat.org/BoardwalkCats.

Meet Chuck, one of our amazing volunteers at Mount Rainier National Park! Chuck was born in Portland, Maine, but grew up in western Massachusetts. He has volunteered with our Meadow Rover program for about 6 years, and our Winter Interpretive programs for 5. Volunteering is Chuck’s way to give back to the park, protect the resources, and interact, educate, and assist the many visitors that come to the park. High Lakes trail, especially Far Away Rock, is Chuck’s favorite place inside the park. When Chuck is not at Mount Rainier, he enjoys bicycling on the Green River in Kent, the Foot Hills Trail from Orting to Buckley, doing training hikes in Dash Point State Park, and spending warm beach days at Alki Beach in West Seattle. Growing up, his favorite place to recreate was in Chesterfield Scout Reservation in Massachusetts where he first learned wilderness skills, camping, and snowshoeing in the winter. He also did a lot of hiking and camping on portions of the AT throughout New England.

Importance of volunteer background check
Tumblr media
Maintaining the integrity of an organization is necessary. With proper background verifications on volunteers, it can be achievable. Volunteer background check can help an organization ensure its safety. It’s a method that helps nonprofits and organizations track the records of every single applicant. By doing background checks, organizations may create a secure environment, and preserve their values. Through this method, the organizations can know and understand each candidate really well even before onboarding. It also helps reduce the risk of facing any legal issues in the coming days. Lastly, background checks for volunteers contribute to the creation of an environment that is ideal to build a healthy working environment.
