#Vaschete scenarios

Imagine for a moment that reincarnation is real... and now imagine senior, gray muzzle Vasco rescuing a sickly albino horse who seems very frightened and uncomfortable with the concept of being a horse. Vasco is too old and frail to ride anymore, as you've mentioned in the past if i remember correctly, but he takes this horse in.
No one at the stable can even make eye contact with this pale steed without its ears pinning back and its eyes threatening to bulge out of its head. However, Vasco visits every day he is physically able to, so he can gently comb its mane and tail and handfeed it oats and hay, since it refuses to eat otherwise.
Vasco doesn't give the horse a name, but in a voice soft enough for the two of them to hear, he calls it various old pet names only he should know. He swears the horse's eyes light up at his words despite not fully believing the possibility.
Regardless, they comfort each other.

That barracuda Machete art makes me imagine a world in which he just loses it and murders the entire papacy. Boy turned his guilt into wrath

I mean we have surviving letters and correspondence much older and from much more "irrelevant" historical figures than Vasco and Machete, so it's not that unlikely that some evidence of their relationship survived until modern dog times.
Especially if you consider that Vasco and Machete would likely preserve and keep each other's letters and presents for sentimental sake, they would still hide them of course but I think that should only make their survival and preservation more possible.
What I'm trying to say is that there is a world where their relationship become a very niche historical theory and regularly a part of "tragic historical queer figures" videos. Dog 2010s tumblr would go crazy for their tragic situationship (and Vasco's very spicy letters)
I had to put my phone down and thoroughly dwell on this world where they're occasionally mentioned in a video essay or a history podcast of some sort. And the idea of 2010s tumblr but it's dogs.

Building up on both of does anon posts, Machete and Vasco being historical figures that make waves every so often on tumblr feels very canon and not too far from actual tumblr's favourite historical figures.
And also, I feel that Machete shouldn't go that unnoticed by scholars. Being this powerful member of the clergy that escaped many assassination attempts before being killed and had a personal relationship with the pope. Like this man was a deathly and important part of the inquisition, but also left behind rumours of a same-sex relationship with a married politician.
I can definitely see him becoming a point of interest for some historians, especially does who studied the inquisition or the clergy. That's probably how Vasco's paintings of him got discovered and documented and how their relationship stopping being considered a rumour started by his now-death enemies, but an actual theory with some weight behind it.
Idk why but I'm becoming very invested in the ways history would treat and remember them, way too many scandals and drama for them to be forgotten in time.
You do make a very convincing point.
People are getting so invested in their hypothetical in-universe reputation and are clearly putting some serious thought into it and it's getting me hyped up as well ;_;

Now all these asks have me INVESTED okay?? Can you imagine??
2010s Dogblr. Some sad scrungly teenage repressed gay dog, brought up catholic, trying so hard to pray it all away. Then they just see some post with transcribed letters from these tragic historical figures who lived and then died with their love unknown to the world. And this poor kid feeling so seen and oof ouch I’m making myself real sad over this, I’ll show myself out-
Oof
ouch

Dog Vasco looks like he easily accepts affection and should live with the first person that decoded to take him home, BUT only of they showed the same level of compassion and care for Machete
Adopt one hyperactive and affectionate dog, gain one sad and very frightened dog (???) for free!!! And the first one WILL bite you if you hurt or don't adopt the second, have a very good day!

I like to imagine, in the 'canon', before Machete's assassination, as they drift apart, Machete starts having terrible nightmares. A distorted version of himself, resembling only the worst parts of him hurting everyone he loves (aka Vasco) and potentially even killing him. As he realizes how dangerous he is he starts distancing himself, hurting Vasco even more in the process. I even imagine them exchanging some pretty heated and mean spirited words (especially Machete) a few hours before he inevitably dies.
All that can tie back to that other anon had said about Vasco having nightmares. He feels guilty and that he's responsible for what happened.
Oh boy, that's terribly sad ;^;
Machete had been spiralling for a while before he was ultimately assassinated. I'd like to think they were still very close and not actively drifting apart, but there was definitely some tension in the air. Machete had been retreating into his shell, consumed by mounting paranoia and self-loathing and felt that it was actively harmful and dangerous for Vasco, the light of his life, to be near him. Vasco was worried of course, but they had had rough patches before and Machete had always managed to outrun his demons that far, he believed things would work out eventually like they always do. He had no reason to think it would end this time.

I was on Pinterest this morning and I saw this and went “MACHETE wait- he wouldn’t drink from a puddle even in an apocalypse” then I’m like- apocalypse machete wouldn’t last five minutes, he’d cringe at the thought of mud getting on his heels(tm) and Vasco would probably act like a hunting dog, he might do pretty well ina full on apocalypse or war or something, and he would carry machete over all the mud puddles Q^Q

I just see Machete having a morning routine where he wakes up--
Gets dressed: Dressed
Looks at Vasco: Blessed
Looks out window: Jesus oppressed
If Vasco isn't available, "blessed" gets replaced with "stressed".

In my mind, Machete is the one that found Ear in a dumpster or something, saw the familiar markings, and decided immediately that this was his child now. Presents him to Vasco with so much nervousness.
Vasco, meanwhile, sees the huge bat like ears and fluffiness and agrees. This is definitely their child now.
I just like the idea of them getting attached at first sight not because the kid looks like them mixed together, but because of the features that remind them of the one they love.
Also, with Ear being so fluffy even in his child state contrasting with Machete not being fluffy till growing up, I think ear will be Extra Fluffy when he gets older. Chow levels of fluffy.

Okay so I had this idea when thinking about the other asks talking about historical Vasco and Machete being talked about in dog modern day but now I'm imagining this: someone gets inspired by their letters and makes a movie loosely based on those two real people, and modern Vasco and Machete get cast in the roles of their historical counterparts.

i was trying to think of what would be a fun april fool's bit, but all I could think was 'these are my two Lutheran cat OCs, Basco and Karambit' and now i can't stop thinking about this reverse world where instead of Renaissance Italians, they're two german mancats drinking beer and complaining about the inaccessibility of the bible to the common man.

Vasco's ultimate attack would be called "Rays of a thousand suns" where Vasco howers in mid air surrounded by a halo of radiant light materializing into infinite blades of light. He smiles gently before destroying you because he feels sad for destroying something with such potential to do good but deciding to do bad.
Machete's ultimate attack would be called "Bleeding tears of an angel" where pool of almost black blood seeps from the ground and Machete rises from the pool in a from of a pure white angel hiding behind his large wings so only glimpses of him can be seen in any angle. He radiates black light that makes anything in ever growing radius to wither in black ash while he shivers because he really wouldn't want to destroy you but you force his hand.

(im sorry)
Vasco would change after Machete's death, I think. He'd always be a good, kind man, and in time his smile would return, but never with its old radiance. Sorrow would age him prematurely, and white would creep over his muzzle like clouds blocking the sun.
But perhaps he'd look in the mirror some nights, and run his fingers across the white fur with fondness, remembering the white fur that used to press against him once upon a time. A last reminder of his love, forever on his lips.

I find the thought of their modern versions having interests in medieval arts and traditions very cute, imagine Vasco learning how to play a lute and everyone questioning why not play a guitar or something similar. And even he doesn't know why, but a part of him tells him to do it.
Like deja-vus and weird desires of visiting Rome, commissioning fancy portraits and playing the lute while riding a horse in the country-side.
Same for machete, but he just accepts it as a hyper-fixation on the renaissance and moves on without questioning it much

I'm just imagining Vasco as like the head of the Parent-Teacher's Association, making the bake sale cupcakes and stuff, and Machete is like always the field trip chaperone because he can't stand to imagine Ear at the zoo without him nearby
I feel like it could also potentially work the other way around. Machete knows how to run an organization efficiently and responsibly, no matter how big or small (and might do a little baking on the side). Vasco on the other hand would probably really enjoy going to field trips with Ear and wouldn't mind looking after other people's kids as well.
