“CALIFORNIA AREA HIT BY 'QUAKE, FIRE AND DEATH,” Toronto Star. March 11. 1933. Page 2. ---- Outlined the above map is the district of southern California where a terrific earthquakes, followed by fire, have wrought death and destruction. An upheaval in the ocean southwest of Long Beach is said to have caused the quakes. The area of the earth trembling extended mainly from Santa Barbara to San Diego, a stretch of some 200 miles, with the main damage being done at Long Beach, favorite winter resort, where many Canadians make holiday. The area in the circle is that hardest hit by the earth quakes. Fourteen large cities were in the zone of danger and all report damage.
CALLED THE FIREMEN Miss Helen Quinn, 209 Dufferin St., is the young lady who raced back into the building at 112 Bond St. yesterday after being driven out by the smoke and fired which followed an explosion of chemicals and telephoned an alarm to the fire department.
U.S. BLUEJACKETS KEEP ORDER IN ‘QUAKE ZONE The U.S. warship Pennsylvania, shown here, was to-day rushed to San Pedro harbor, scene of violent and repeated earth shocks last night which took a terrific toll of life. From the ship bluejackets and marines are streaming to the mainland to aid in rescue work, and to protect home owners against looting.

Today In History
Doris Miller, African-American hero of World War II, the son of sharecroppers Connery and Henrietta Miller, enlisted in the United States Navy at its Dallas recruiting station.
Following bootcamp training in Norfolk, Virginia, he was assigned to the USS West Virginia as a messman.
On December 7, 1941, Mess Attendant Second Class Doris Miller was collecting soiled laundry just before 8:00 A.M. when the first bombs blasted his ship at anchor in Pearl Harbor. Miller went to the main deck where he assisted in moving the mortally wounded captain.
He then raced to an unattended deck gun and fired at the attacking planes until forced to abandon ship. It was Miller’s first experience firing such a weapon because black sailors serving in the segregated steward’s branch of the Navy were not given the gunnery training received by white sailors.
Navy officials conferred the Navy Cross upon Miller on May 27, 1942, in a ceremony at Pearl Harbor.
In addition to conferring upon him the Navy Cross, the Navy honored Doris Miller by naming a dining hall, a barracks, and a destroyer escort for him. The USS Miller is the third naval ship to be named after a black Navy man.
In Waco a YMCA branch, a park, and a cemetery bear his name. In Houston, Texas, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, elementary schools have been named for him, as has a Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter in Los Angeles. An auditorium on the campus of Huston-Tillotson College in Austin is dedicated to his memory. In Chicago the Doris Miller Foundation honors persons who make significant contributions to racial understanding.

Shipgirl Appreciation Day: USS Arizona
Tumblr media
The second ship of the Pennsylvania class, and the first victim of Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona is... deeply traumatized by her past.
"This feels great... It would be good if the nightmares go away at this rate..." MVP Line
"No more... Just this once, please let me have it my way..." Defeat line.
Pearl Harbor deeply defines Arizona, both visually and mentally. She has become a broken mess by her PTSD, seeing such things as strong wind as a sign that the hell she went through is about to begin again. However, with Pennsylvania by her side, she is able to fight her fears, and stand beside her friends. And, alongside you, Even if she's still scared
"I'll work hard, big sis!" when with pennsylvania.
"I won't let that day happen again' you say? ...Thank you. Those are the words that resonated with my heart the most in my life... I believe in you!" Pledge line
Although, what do I mean by Visually? Well, her constant crying is in reference to a phenomenon called Pearl's Tears, where oil constantly leaks from Arizona's wreck. It is said to bubble up to the surface each time a veteran of the pacific campaign passes away. That white thing on her belt, behind her right arm, is also a reference. To the Pearl Harbor memorial, which sits above her wreck
Tumblr media
A few years later, Arizona META was released. While she is less prone to crying than her original self, it's obvious she still knows the fear and pain that defines her.
Tumblr media
"'Arizona's Tears'.. Does that refer to me? Maybe I was seen in a moment when I could not control my emotions. I'm sorry..." Secretary 1
"If given the chance, I'd like to do it all over again... But even if that were possible, wouldn't the same things just play out again? What do you think, Commander?" Details
Alongside this, Arizona META tries to remain isolated as much as possible, believing herself a bad luck charm for her friends
"Would you mind keeping a safe distance from me? Oh, no, I'm not trying to push you away. 'Our' Vestal warned that something terrible will happen if you don't..." Stranger affinity
"It is said that staying around me for too long will afflict you with tragic dreams. Huh? You don't mind? I, I see..." Secretary 2
Also, even she is not free from symbolism. Her rigging is almost identical to the Pearl Harbor wreck
Arizona is a vulnerable girl, filled with loss and hurt. Each day, her past tears at her. But, she still hopes, deep in her heart, for a brighter future. Days with her sister, her friends, free from uncertainty and nightmares.

December 7, 1941 America was attacked.
The SR-71 ensured that there would never be another day like December 7, 1941
Why are Reconnaissance airplanes like the SR-71 so crucial to the United States?
The SR- 71 was necessary for our security and freedom because of historical days like December 7, 1941. The attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships, including eight battleships.
People today can relate to 9/11.
Remember when the A-12 /SR 71 was being built? People could remember December 7, 1941. It had happened only 20 years before. They never wanted to be caught by surprise again. The outrage and anger that Americans felt toward the Japanese for attacking us was the drive behind the invention of the Most U-2, A-12, and the SR 71. We never wanted to be surprised like this again.
The Japanese believed that once the U.S. Pacific Fleet was neutralized, all of Southeast Asia would be open for conquest.
The Japanese plan was simple: Destroy the Pacific Fleet. That way, the Americans would not be able to fight back as Japan’s armed forces spread across the South Pacific. On December 7, after months of planning and practice, the Japanese launched their Attack.
At about 8 a.m., Japanese planes filled the sky over Pearl Harbor. Bombs and bullets rained onto the vessels moored below. At 8:10, a 1,800-pound bomb smashed through the deck of the battleship USS Arizona and landed in her forward ammunition magazine. The ship exploded and sank with more than 1,000 men Trapped inside.
Next, torpedoes pierced the shell of the battleship USS Oklahoma. With 400 sailors aboard, the Oklahoma lost her balance, rolled onto her side, and slipped underwater.
Less than two hours later, the surprise attack was over, and every battleship in Pearl Harbor—USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, USS California, USS West Virginia, USS Utah, USS Maryland, USS Pennsylvania, USS Tennessee, and USS Nevada—had sustained significant damage. (All but USS Arizona and USS Utah were eventually salvaged and repaired.)
On December 8, U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt asked Congress for and received a declaration of war against Japan. On December 11, Germany and Italy, allied with Japan, declared war on the U.S. The United States entered World War II. This was the last time we declared war formally against anyone.

The Bermuda Triangle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my 5th and final blog post, I am going to talk about a conspiracy theory that has baffled people for decades – The Bermuda Triangle, also known as The Devil’s Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle is a section of the North Atlantic Ocean where ships, planes, and people have mysteriously vanished. The three points that make up the triangle are in Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda.
With a series of unexplained explanations, the phenomenon of the Bermuda Triangle has dumbfounded the world for years. In 1964, the story of the Bermuda Triangle took place. It was officially named The Bermuda Triangle when American author Vincent Gaddis created the infamous name when talking in a magazine about an area in the shape of a triangle just off the coast of Florida. This area became later known as the “Devil’s Triangle” due to the strange disappearances of at least 50 ships and 20 aircrafts. To this day, many still do not know exactly what happened to the ships and aircrafts, the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has caused many conspiracy theories about the triangle-shaped area.
Stated before, the hype of the Bermuda Triangle can be linked back to the mysterious disappearances of ships and aircrafts. In 1945, a routine training exercise went wrong when five US Navy planes and 14 men disappeared in the area. The US Navy investigated and explored the area only to announce back that the incident was reported “cause unknown.” From that time on until the 1980s, there were 25 small planes that disappeared in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle, the small planes were never seen again, and no wreckage of the planes were ever found. Rescue missions of the small planes were sent out; however, it is also reported that some of those rescue trips vanished as well. Multiple abandoned ships were discovered and some never sent out any distress signals. Some people have concluded that something unnatural occurred for all these ships and aircrafts to vanish.
The deadliest unsolved mystery in the Navy is the USS Cyclops. Built as a fuel ship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it was later commissioned to support American Forces in France during World War I. However, in the early morning in March of 1918, Cyclops disappeared with all hands while returning from a voyage to Brazil. The ship and its crew made an unscheduled stop in Barbados on March 3, 1918. However, the crew and passengers were never seen again, and it is still a mystery over 100 years later. To this day not a single piece of the ship has been found. Which led to many asking, “how did such a large ship carrying 293 men just disappear without a trace?” The theory is that the infamous Bermuda Triangle claimed their lives since the USS Cyclops reportedly went down in the Bermuda Triangle. Numerous ships were sent out to locate the Cyclops as it was thought to have been sunk by a German submarine. No one for sure knows what exactly happened to the ship which caused many stories and theories.
Tumblr media
The stories of the mysterious area captivated the public. Some theories were created to explain the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. One theory is that wormholes explain the conspiracy behind the Bermuda Triangle. Wormholes are like a tunnel between two points in our universe that cut the time travel down between one point to the other. It’s essentially where space and time come together to allow for time travel. Now this theory may seem insane to many but many think this explains as to why the wreckage from the shipwrecks or plane wrecks were never recovered or why upon discovery of some wreckage, no person was found from these wrecks.
The US Navy and the United States coast guard insist there are no supernatural explanations for the disasters at sea. They suggest it is purely just environmental reasoning why these ships and aircrafts have wrecked. Majority of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean pass through the Bermuda Triangle. Dangerous storms like these have claimed many ships that get in the way. Another environmental theory of what claimed the missing vessels are gigantic, deadly waves called Rogue Waves. These waves can reach heights of up to 100 feet, greater than twice the size of surrounding waves.
Tumblr media
These extreme storm waves theoretically could be powerful enough to destroy all evidence of ships and aircrafts, thus explaining why some ship and aircraft wreckage were never found. The ocean has and will always be a mystery to humans, no matter how experienced you are to sail a ship or fly an aircraft the deep ocean can be a very deadly place.
There are numerous theories as to why vessels disappear in the Bermuda Triangle, some theories as insane as some claiming that aliens take the shipwrecks and plane wrecks, and this explains why some wreckages never get discovered or some just say the ocean is a very dangerous place and the ocean all over have claimed lives before. Whatever you may believe, the wrecks in the Bermuda Triangle have and will always be a mystery.

Thing I Can Make Out On The White Board:
1) The CRM is clearly planning to make a move on Portland. We know this because the map the promo shows, the top left says Portland and Post Operation, that latitude and longitude for Portland, Oregon are on the board. (Also, the World Beyond spinoff, which I have not watched)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) I think the π symbol could be a reference to pizza or an implication that the story is now coming full circle.
3) RPED and marine - marine is a military branch and I think RPED can either stand for Respiratory Protective Escape Device or Rapid Prototyping Experimentation Demonstration. We know that the CRM has made devices to attack people with chlorine gas, we also know that they are performing experiments.
Tumblr media
4) Radio G7 Span and East of River - G7 is the Group of 7 that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the US. It is a government thing. I think this shows the widespread reach of the CRM. When I looked up East of River, it brought up Washington DC, as East of the River is a part of DC called the East End.
Tumblr media
5) Food Lines/Inventory Seeds RW 32.62527 - I can't put a whole lot of meaning to this beyond possibly trying to attack Portland's food supply, unless seeds are referring to their bomb capsules. Both the Seed stand and the seed mention made me think back to the season 3x1 Seed but that can just be a coincidence.
Tumblr media
6) Code 3362, FL/only - I haven't been able to find what code 3362 means, but I think FL means food lines OR front lines.
Tumblr media
7) Engage -> Assess -> Execute -> Reclamation -> PPP exception - I think this is just how they keep files on communities and document them. I am uncertain exactly what the PPP exception is, although I have made 2 posts on it. I think it means Power Projection Platforms in regards to what the CRM views as assets (A's who can be reformed the the CRMs benefit, and control military forces) or medically it refers to glycolysis and the Pentose Phosphate Pathway and how the body responds to methanol (metabolic acidosis).
Tumblr media
8) Echelon Exception - we are aware that there is something called the Echelon Briefing. We know that historically Echelon was a government surveillance program (which is similar to how the CRM knows about all these communities). We also know that Echelon literally means rung of a ladder or level.
Tumblr media
9) Intel / Rules / Contact Park - I cannot read anything that it says in between the section titles. I do know there was a character on Fear the Walking Dead: Dead on the Water (or something along those lines) named Park. That show was about the USS Pennsylvania (I think) going against its orders to fire up on Chicago.
Tumblr media
10) Refinery C2H5OH1 - The CRM is manufacturing ethanol. We know ethanol to be alcohol, the most concentrated form being moonshine. We know that if not made properly, it becomes methanol which is poisonous to the body because our body turns it into formaldehyde. I think this is why Beth says "bad moonshine can make you go blind" and I also think this is why Alone takes place in a funeral home. (I also think Alone took place in a funeral home to emphasize the fact that Beth did not get a funeral). I think this is Pharmakon, poison and cure coming full circle. Even in the episode Still, Peach Schnapps was a poison and Moonshine was the cure. (Daryl said Peach Schnapps is not good and Moonshine is a real first drink).
Tumblr media
This is just info, I can't really make the best sense of it all as I have no watched any of the spinoffs and haven't seen past Carl's death in the show. (My fiance and I are only on 5x7 of our rewatch)

Life and Death at the Gate
At dawn on Sunday, 25 June 1950, the North Korean army crossed the 38th parallel supported by massed artillery fire. With the support of the Soviet Union the invasion was based on a false claim by North Korea that South Korean troops had attacked first. The real aim of the invasion was to take by force and subjugate South Korea under rule of the current North Korean leader's grandfather and his sham democracy. Condemned by the Free World, the invasion drew the first ever response by the United Nations, primarily supported by U.S. troops and aid. The war has technically never ended, and it resulted in millions killed and over 100,000 U.S. servicemen wounded or killed in action. In recognition of the coming carnage, a short time after the invasion, the World War II era hospital ship USS Benevolence (AH-13) was towed from a mothball fleet to Mare Island Naval Shipyard (MINS) in the San Francisco Bay Area to be taken out of mothballs and recommissioned. The US Navy Hospital Ship Benevolence would never make it to Korea. She tragically sank just minutes outside the Golden Gate while returning from sea trials.
Benevolence departed Mare Island at 0800 on 25 August 1950 for limited sea trials following recommissioning. Eight and a half hours later the fully loaded freighter SS Mary Luckenbac passed under the Golden Gate Bridge in thick fog bound for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Visibility was reported to vary from 300 to 400 yards. Radar had become common place by the 1950’s, but the Mary Luckenbac‘s radar had malfunctioned and was turned off. As the Mary Luckenbac passed under the bridge, she was on a collision course with the Benevolence returning from her sea trials. Aboard the Benevolence the radar was on and operating, but for some reason the crew was unaware of the approaching freighter. Both ships had bow lookouts posted and were operating their fog horns, but their combined closing speeds of 27 knots would doom the Benevolence. At an estimated 1,000 yards bow lookouts on the Benevolence sighted the bow wave of the approaching freighter. Benevolence began blasting the emergency signal on the ship’s horn as both ships attempted evasive action. It was too late, within three minutes the freighter slammed into the hospital ship raking her compartments open along the port side.
Following the collision both ships vanished into the fog. Unaware of the extent of the damage to his ship, Captain Barton E· Bacon on board the Benevolence gave no orders to prepare to abandon ship. However, within 5 minutes his ship’s main deck had sunk to sea level at the bow and she was listing 45 degrees, too far over to launch the lifeboats. The Benevolence had managed to transmit a message requesting emergency assistance just after the collision and then radio contact was lost. Twenty minutes later the Benevolence rolled over and sank in the shipping channel between Pt. Bonita and Seal Rocks. Five Hundred and twenty-five men and women went into the frigid water as the outgoing tide scattered them further out to sea. As word of the disaster spread a small armada of fishing boats, yachts, coast guard and naval vessels began scouring the seas in the thick fog looking for survivors. Survivors would continue to be found and pulled from the sea for nearly two days and as they were landed by rescue ships the Red Cross handed them a carton of cigarettes and the Service’s gave them booze. In the end eleven Navy, ten Military Sea Transportation Service and two MINS tradesmen were lost.
The Benevolence laid just beneath the waves in the south shipping channel as a hazard to navigation for sixteen months as separate courts of inquiry were held by the Navy and Coast Guard on Treasure Island and in San Francisco respectively. While the inquiries were underway MINS was directed to study the possibility of salvage. A no cure no pay request for proposals was sent to Bay Area salvage firms to evaluate the feasibility of salvage. A tanker suffered a minor collision with the Benevolence hulk, before MINS officials determined that salvage was not feasible, and the decision was made to remove the hazard with explosives. When you visit the USS San Francisco memorial near Lands’ End on the 49 Mile Scenic Drive and look out to sea you are overlooking the site of the Benevolence sinking.
