Desert Spiny Lizard - April 2022
This Desert Spiny Lizard was walking along the curbing at the base of the hummingbird bush where I captured the image of the hummingbird. When the hummingbird flew away, I saw movement at the base of the bush and thought it was another hummingbird. Instead it was a lizard, which stayed in place long enough for me to capture several images. As is usually the case with lizards, when I tried to move around in front of it, it skittered off under the bush.

Delicate Moments of Impermanence . Took the entire day @tohonochul to decompress and unfocus our senses after a week of fruitful gem show huntings. Today was extra special and meaningful as there was also a beautiful memorial for Lydia Reis, known to many locals as "The Umbrella Lady” who was fatally struck by a car while walking in the area earlier this month. Her spirit was beautifully honored and lots of people came out to show their love and remembrance. May she rest in peace 🙏☂️ Todays happenings was a gentle reminder that the miracle of life is precious and fleeting. Hug your loved ones as often as you can and be present in all that you do. Have the courage to forgive others and also yourself…life is just too short and magical to do otherwise. (at Tohono Chul) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoENAHhrGrD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Congratulations to my beautiful and talented daughter Alex, who has two clay sculptures in the current show at the Shemer Art Center in North Phoenix. She also will have work at Tohono Chul in December. Is this a family tradition? Both her Dad and I had clay pieces in Tohono Chul Gallery shows and gift shop in the past. @alexandracatalinaqueen @alexandracatalina.jewelry #clay #artistsoninstagram (at Phoenix, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck3YaDRrOw20RBXclnQzCZRFMyV0ADgOqLsm400/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This is the male broad-billed who lives in the hummingbird garden at Tohono Chul. He often poses for us. Many people walk by his territory as it is one of the paths out from the Bistro. Tohono Chul Park Tucson, Arizona

When I’m 69
The celebratory dinner for this particular birth anniversary came last night, due to scheduling by some friends who were taking off for a long weekend. There were five of us, and the fifth member got shuffled a couple of times as people turned up sick.
And then the skies opened up and rain poured down like never before this monsoon season, just as we prepared to leave for dinner. From the front door to the car is only a matter of a few steps, but in that time I was nearly soaked. By the time the dinner was over, though, I had mostly dried out and the rain had abated.
We enjoyed the meal at The Parish, a New Orleans-style restaurant on Tucson’s northwest side. A friend I met with during my week of tours to meetings had recommended it, and I tried it out on Saturday night. The red beans and rice with Andouille sausage was excellent, and I had it again for the birthday dinner.
Yesterday, the actual day of the birth anniversary, was definitely low-key by comparison. After the usual start to the day involving coffee and New York Times puzzle solving, Nancy and I took off for Tohono Chul, a lovely botanical garden also located in the northwest part of Tucson. After wandering around the 49 acres for an hour or so, we dined in the Garden Bistro, followed by some more brief wandering.
On the way home we made a couple of brief stops to allow me to grab some photos of the mountains, bathed in sunlight and stunning shades of green, then popped in for gelato at La Encantada.
At home, finally, we napped until time for me to pick up some mini cupcakes a friend baked for me to take to my usual Thursday night meeting. Nancy accompanied me, and we shared the cupcakes with a smaller than usual crowd, thanks to more inclement weather. But the tasty little treats all disappeared by the end of the meeting, so I did not have to overdose on sugar at home.
We closed out the evening with a quick dinner of quiche and caught up on some of the streaming we missed during our week apart. All in all, it was a decent observance of an occasion I am truly grateful to have reached. Thanks, all, for the wonderful wishes and greetings!
